Best Headphones For Guitar Amp Under $50 (Jan 2023 Update)

Got this Amplug Blues today plugged it into my Strat and it sounds great! and I highly recommend it! Now is it perfect? the answer is the usual NO. I think it can be improved on as follows. 1. Put a little color on the dials… the plastic is all black and the plug can rotate to different orientations. Would really be nice to have the dials stand out better with different colors. 2. Change the AA batteries to USB rechargeable Lipo battery. No reason to burn batteries when you can recharge! 3. My main change request is to have Bluetooth Audio In because you plug in the Amplug and then connect headphones (great for practicing). But to add audio to jam to you need to connect another cable to the Aux jack. So for me it just get's to be too much. Since nearly everyone has a smart phone it would be great to use Bluetooth for the Audio In so you can wirelessly play jam track and stuff without needing the 2nd cable. But it does sound really good and I'm keeping it!Harpster58

I regret, that I was mistaken in my previous review. I had claimed that the sound was great – but, that some functions were missing, after about a month of use. That is not true. I re-read the slightly, confusing, manual. The unit itself is – slightly, confusing* – but, it does work the way it is supposed to. In fact, you have a serious selection of effects – at least, three levels, of each one of, three effects – far more than other units in this category of headphone amplifier. The sound is incredible – the thing's got, big, b*alls! – and that, in itself, is worth five stars. Amazing job!

Had my reservations about buying this, a cheap headphone amp, as I have had others in the past and the o/d or distortion always sound awful. Don't get me wrong it isn't replacing my Marshall amp, but for a really portable and handy headphone amp it is great. I can use this, and move, whilst the kids are in bed, no more having to be 2 mtrs from my big amp….. As a practice and experimenting tool I love this!gastall1978

It's better than expected, though the design might not compatible with some guitar models. It requires an AAA battery. Works pretty well with any headphone. It also has an AUX port so that you can plug and play any songs you like and jam along. Thumbs up from me!wamin0

The Vox AC30 G2 headphone amp is a fun piece of equipment. It is quite versatile in the sense that it has a line out, so you can record though your software, analog equipment or whatever you are using to record guitar. There are half a dozen built in guitar effects, which can be activated by pressing the FX button. The LED will light up a different color based on which effect is activated. This amp is powered by 2 AAA batteries. This amp sounds like the classic Vox AC30; it has a classic 60's and 70's British rock sound. So it's not gonna sound like an overdriven Marshall stack with that heavy mid guitar sound. It will get kind of a Brian May type of sound. This is a fun amp, and it is perfect for practicing quietly . The durability seems weak, it's lightweight plastic, so it will take time to evaluate the longevity of this headphone amp. But so far so good.tom

First off, I'm a dabbler and not a professional. I bought this so I could practice on my electric guitar without disturbing everyone else. For that purpose it is excellent. The package comes with a small instruction pamphlet which is tucked into the folded cardboard backing. It's easy to miss it. You need the instructions because it's not obvious how to operate the device without them. But the instructions are easy to download as a PDF from the manufacturer's website. You're not going to replace all your pedals with this inexpensive device but it does include an impressive array of built-in features such as tremolo, reverb, distortion, tone and (I haven't tried it) Rhythm. It does a great job of mixing the AUX input with the input from the instrument. I use it with my laptop and Band in a Box. Adjust the AUX level at its source (the laptop or player) to an acceptable level and then use the controls on the amPlug to adjust the volume of the instrument to your taste. Listening to the resultant sound through headphones is impressive.gixxernaut

If you want the straight up Brit Grit of the VOX AC30 this little device delivers great sounding tones.It sounds very good clean, and GREAT with gain added. The distortion from the gain is tight, very bluesy, and provides the crunch for classic rock. I have played an Epiphone 335, a Gibson SG, and Fender Strat through the device and each instruments sounded good. But, the amp really brings out the blues tomes on the Gibson and Fender. The amp gets LOUD, maybe too loud if you care about damaging your hearing. I like my music loud enough to hear it, feel it, and be inspired by it, and I can accomplish this with a minimal volume adjustment. There are three effect settings; tremolo, reverb, and delay, but they are basically useless to me because i don't use effects, and the effects cannot be adjusted to serve any useful, or musically desirable purpose. For example, a little bit of delay can be cool, but the delay on this device is enough to make you dizzy, and the same can be said for the tremolo function. Reverb too… who uses reverb anymore? I am a hard core blues and classic rock guy and I think reverb is dated… I am spoiled though, I play through Fender tube amps and bells and whistles are not really my thing. All i need is myself, my guitar and red hot tube amp and I am good to go. And the from this standpoint the VOX AC30 gets the job done very well. (It) is fragile and one must be careful handling (it) and the guitar while (it) is attached to avoid breaking (it), but if you are careful (it) is just fine. By the way, (it) connected to the guitars I mentioned earlier without any problems. If you want to jam like a mad man without bothering anyone, this is the device to get. It is good for clean guitar playing style, and for those who want to rock out. Not for heavy metal or thrash nonsense, but very good for solid blues and classic rock. Get one!Jim in the Box

Seems as well built as the other options I've seen. Better tonal range than Vox and better than having to buy 2 or three devices. First impressions were not that good but as I've used it a bit more I can see me getting more used to it. I probably expected to much and was basing my hopes on the FLY amps. I think the effects are too limited to be worthwhile and would prefer Blackstar to focus on better amp tone. Still, I'm happy with it and for the type of device this is I know of nothing that sounds better. If I lost it I would probably look at the latest options but as it stands this is still the one I would buy. I think all of this type of device are over priced when you consider what a small amp costs but for portable practice in a small space it can't be beaten. Amazing bit of kit for the price! Clean, over drive and distortion channels in a small box the amps to headphones perfectly! Can’t really comment on the effects as not really tried them out! But if you need a tiny portable amp that connects to your headphone for practice i would throughly recommend! Just noticed it even has aux in so I can listen to my Fender tutors without having to have 2 different sets of headphones on the go!!! Total novice managed to get it working in 3 minutes without reading the instructions!Mike

If you are old enough to remember the 80's (I am) then you will recognize this stye of headphones! They came with the first walkmans and they were so lightweight compared to the heavy "cans" style headphones with a coiled cord we wore at home listening to stereo in the 70's These Modern headphones are very light and really inexpensive, so you won't miss them if they are lost. Also… they do not play very loud… which I prefer… and that is good for protecting your hearing. For the low price… they can't beat these for retro style, inexpensive headphones! Did I also mention…They come with a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter for older stereo equipment and spare set foam ear pads!!! A great Value!Dave

My Koss KSC75x from Massdrop fit perfectly and sound even better with the extra clamping force. Although they came a little bent in the plastic bag, they were easily bent back, as the band is metal.Benjamin

I have some junk headphones that I occassionally use with a laptop. Those headphones are falling apart. Well, I got them back out the trash because they sound ten times better than these. My TV is connected to an external sound system. The Samsung smart TV can only connect to one external speaker/amplifier. In my case, I could not make the headphones work with the TV. Disappointing since I really need it for my 90 year old mother in law who is hard of hearing and wants the TV sound at a high level and drives my wife crazy.Disappointed

My husband goes to sleep earlier than me, and I like to keep the TV on to fall asleep. With these headphones, we can turn the TV volume down all the way, and I can get the level of volume through the headphones that I want and he cannot hear the TV at all. It's very simple to use once it's set up, and set up was very easy. Just make sure the tower is "On", turn the power on the headphones "on", and the sound comes through! The only flaw I notice – The headphones set very easily down on top of the tower. (The tower acts as a charger, too.) If you put the headphones down one direction, the "red" light comes on solid and you know the unit is charging. If you put the headphones down in the opposite direction, the solid red light flickers and I'm not sure if the unit is charging or not. There is no discernable way of telling that one way is right and the other way is wrong. The whole system is set up as if either way ought to work just as well as the other. (It all seems quite symmetrical.) One more detail – You must make sure you turn the tower to the "Off" position in order to charge, and then turn it back "On" if you want to use the headphones. I bought this as a gift for my husband (really a gift for me!). He enjoys watching some news programs and I don't want to watch or hear them as I am burned out on it. Despite his considerately keeping the volume down to a very reasonable level, the sound travels throughout the house including upstairs to my loft office. So I basically had no escape except to move my computer etc. into our bedroom. This is not convenient. Now it is peacefully quiet when he is watching the news. And he also appreciates it when I binge-watch home improvement shows because I can use them too. Another great feature about this set is that if one wants to get up and get a cup of coffee or prepare a meal, you won't miss any of the sound. You can even run upstairs and still hear your program. I ordered another brand prior. I found on arrival that the wireless headset didn't come with a transmitter to send the sound signal from the TV to the headset. I had to research which one to get. I ordered it and the headset worked beautifully with quality sound. But 3 days after starting to use it, it would no longer Bluetooth pair the headset to the transmitter. So quality of sound was not relevant…it didn't work. I then ordered the Sharper Image set which has the UHF transmitter and charger built into the base. UHF requires no Bluetooth pairing. It works right off after charging. To recharge the headphones, you just put them back on the base. The only "con" that I can see is that the labels for controls are very small & hard to read. I have good eyesight. To that end, on the back of the base I wrote in marker OFF and ON above and below the base off/on switch. Now I can easily tell if the base unit is off or on. The volume controls etc. still have small print that is the same color as the headset itself. You will become used to the controls so you won't have to take headset off and look at them every time. I should have ordered this one in the 1st place!Masie

Good tool for practice. Five stars because it performs as advertised and has some nice design features. Has a variable gain control that allows you to add as much or as little overdrive as you like. Didn't notice any particularly noisy settings as mentioned by the other reviewer. The overdrive reminds me of the sound I get out of my Pignose amp. I especially like the fact that it has a rechargeable battery so I don't have to waste money on that. It charges via a USB connection and comes with a cable. Just hook it to a computer. Some phone chargers might also work. It won't allow you to route the audio to the computer but for this price, I didn't expect it to. I have a 2011 Nissan Armada Platinum. My headphones were old and the foam was wearing out. I bought these and I am very impressed. They hooked right up without a problem and sound great. The quality is better then the original head set that came with the system. The size is perfect for kids they fit great. I did notice that the level of volume is not that loud but we like that because we don't want our grandchild having something blasting in her ears. The only thing we did not like is the on off switch we like it easy for her to turn on and off. These head set come with a switch that makes it hard to know if she turned them off. So I have to make sure they are on the off switch. I don't mind but when you are in a hurry you might end up with dead batteries. The batteries that came in them were dead but I quickly replaced them and they are working perfect great buy no regrets! I do recommend these for Lexus.crharris55

These headphones work great! There is no pairing necessary. The cushion makes it comfortable to wear. They have great volume and tunes out the radio when u are watching a movie and others are listening to the radio through the cars speakers. Definitely recommend!mellayella

I've been looking for a way to practice without having the hassle of amplifiers. I've always practiced my electric bass unamplified. I considered an acoustic bass but ultimately decided on this product. It works great for practice. Some other reviews complained about noise. There is some noise, but not enough to keep me from practicing. I wouldn't record with it, but hey, it runs on 2 AAA batteries, what do you expect? For the money I'd expect it to be made of better plastic. The case has a somewhat lightweight and textured feel. It would also be nice if it was Bluetooth capable for aux/headphone connections.Pete

I have been very excited with this wee amplifier. It plugs directly into the bass' output jack. There are dial-controlled volume and tone controls which work perfectly and provide well-designed volume and tone sweeps The sound has 3 press-button activated gain levels, and a small colored light which changes color to show which is switched on. Two options, with orange or red colors in the single lamp, are quite low in volume (too low I think) but the third, when the green light is on is excellent, potent with a bit of growl – think Jack Casady, I say! There is an output jack for headphones – plenty of volume available – and an input jack to run, for example, an iPad into the Vox. So, you can privately play along with any music you have stored on an iPad! Powered by 2 AAA batteries, which come with it. Absolutely amazing device. A beginner can buy a bass, use this amp without even needing to purchase a guitar cable, and be ready to begin. The "headphone" output can be plugged into an amplifier's auxiliary socket (my small Ampeg amps are wired to "center" a stereo input signal) or a home sound system using a mini-plug- to- 1/4" stereo converter jack and perhaps a mini-plug-ended extension cable, sold everywhere in various lengths. So one could practice and have the combined sound of iPad and one's instrument sent to an amp. I have purchased some cheap headphones in my day. All of them were terrible. I have purchased soem expensive headphones as well, Pioneer, AKG, Sennheiser, and I promise you. THESE ARE BETTER. They have 50mm drivers that just pound. I have not tried using a headphone amp but for 50$ you can buy a tube amp that would make these headphones sound even better. They are comfy, and they come with two cords, that are re-moveable. A feature only offered on high end headphones. And the cable is SO NICE. It even has a bend protector on the cable. very nice! The headphones are good. The customer service is not. I received what I ordered which included a boom mic to be connected to and used with headphones. However, the cord on the boom mic does not fit into the port on the headphones. It is too small. Only one cord in the box fits and it is an extension cord with no volume or mute controls on it.

I have emailed back and forth with their CS, and all I get are replies for more information, which I had already provide in the previous emails. I was then asked for a video of the problem and even with that, I received a reply asking for more information. Extremely frustrating since they only have a foreign number to call.

I love the built in volume limit so that she won’t turn up the volume too high and damage her hearing. She loves the “soft and squishy” earpieces and the bow that she can replace with a different bow or remove all together.Grammy

Bought these for my young daughter. Tried these, connected via Bluetooth, and the volume goes as high, if not higher, than any of my personal headphones or earbuds. The sound quality is also very poor, so it's especially painful at full volume, even for an adult. I'll be returning these. Otherwise, Bluetooth connected fine. The charging light seemed finicky, didn't seem to indicate when fully charged.Sean

They sound great for the $20 paid, I had done some research, and I bought a small overhead band that fits the drivers, because the clips did not hold them to my ears very well. This is because I have a smaller head though. I also did a small mod to increase the longevity, as these cheap products are often designed with intentional flaws to get them to break sooner. The mod involved cutting a more direct path for the wire, and adding a hot glue buffer on the wire to keep get rid of tension on the fragile connections on the internal components.They are very lightweight, and feel good. Not great in noisy environments, or if you have maybe a loud fan running in the background. I am impressed and hope they last me a while before breaking.Ethan

These are pretty decent headphones, and I am glad I got them. The sound quality is above average, with decent bass tones. I got them because I like to listen to music/sleep tones in bed without disturbing the spouse. Earbuds just do not work for me, and are uncomfortable to fall asleep with. These are more comfortable. and will work well for "normal" use, also. The clips feel secure, so I think they would work well during workouts. I have been using them for a couple weeks, nearly every night, with no complaints. My only concern, that I have with any similar device, is how long the thin wires/cords will hold up without breaking and making them useless. Time will tell.panakanic

At around $10, this headphone offers great sound and absolute neck freedom. I'm constantly annoyed with using a great over/on-ear only to be incentivized to not move my neck forwards or backwards. Or using an in ear headphone that constantly slips out or loses ideal suction because of my organically oily ears. Not to mention, but this is a ""fun"" sound signature, which is generally good for commercial music anyway. This headphone perfect for travel/work and frankly any situation except for when you want pristine sound quality or you're in a noisy enough environment. I'm not often in a noisy enough area where I also need to plug myself away from noise, like I used to do. Over ears tend to be too heavy or too bulky for my portability needs. DID I MENTION COMFORT? There is just no other headphone out there that matches the maximum possible comfort level of the KSC75 ear clips. I don't wear glasses, but I'm sure they're like that, but more comfortable because you can modify the shape. Spend some time molding the ear clip to suit your ear. If you use it stock, you're using it wrong! The clip is a malleable piece of material(?) with a wire inside it, and really light. I mean, the only downsides to these headphones are that they don't fit what the majority of users want out of a generic headphone. They need noise isolation, large over ear sound or in ear isolated sound, stylish, expensive. This is a light, limited styling options, open/on ear, cheap. If the world wasn't so noisy, this earphone would be everywhere. I can't imagine wearing over ears walking around not moving my neck freely, or in ears that I have to adjust every hour that also slowly build ear fatigue, again. Plus the super sensitive wire vibrations you get with in ears that reverberate into your skull. All of those will not be missed with this extremely affordable endgame.J.

Lately my eight year old has lost a lot of his normally good self preservation skills. I caught him the other day listening to youtube at full volume with his gaming headphones. We talked about what that's not OK, but just for safety's sake I'm having him use these phones. The decibel limiter is perfect for him. The phones seem to fit his head well and don't fall off. This is his first pair of bluetooth headphones, so he's been testing the range quite a bit. So far it seems the range is equal to or better than my quite expensive bt phones. I also like the fact that he can plug them in if necessary. We have devices that don't have a bluetooth option. The phones seem to strike a balance between quality and affordability as they likely will fall victim to some misfortune in the hands of one so young.ErikSO

Such a quality headphone! Small features I never knew would be so nice, such as, volume control to keep those little ears safe. The headphones fit both my 6 year old comfortably and my 41 year old head as well (I’ve found issue with products even as an adult with a “smaller” head as well). The cushioning around the ears is quite comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The connection to any device quickly is my favorite feature. Super simple to connect and go! Charging (for me) is quite fast compared to most headphones I’ve tried. We take a 12 hour trip in the car a few times a year and these definitely last the entire trip and more on one charge making them the most reliable headphones. Great comfort, easy to connect and a long charge keep these as out favorites in my home. What a great sounding mini amp. I've had to use headphone mini amps for the last 15 years due to time constraints and location of practice area. I didn't want to use the precious practice time I had just to set up full size amp for only an hour or so and then return everything back to storage area. It was so much simpler and convenient just to plug a mini amp into my guitar, put on head set and play. Down side was always the quality of the mini amps I was using. I was getting them for around half of what a vox cost.. I always wanted a vox but they were expensive. After joining mf rewards club and making several purchases I bought my vox for about half price by applying my points to the purchase. I should have never waited. This vox is 10 times better than the cheaper brands. As soon as I opened the packaging and held it in my hand I could feel the quality. When I first plugged it in and started playing I got really upset. Not at the mini amp but at myself for waiting so long. I highly recommend buying this mini amp. Trust me. Cannot praise this device highly enough. It sounds great, and is ridiculously versatile for such a small device, comprising not only Gain, Tone and Volume controls, together with three levels each of effects options Chorus, Delay and Reverb, but also Clean, Crunch and Lead. Two AAA batteries are required (included), and give hours of usage. Just plug it into your guitar, attach headphones (decent pair of over-ear type are best, but don't need to be expensive) and, if wishing to practice over a track by your favourite band, simply attach an appropriate device such as a tablet or 'phone. If you require to free your amPlug2 sound from the confines of headphones, Vox also offer a mini, 2 watt, amPlug2 amp/speaker to which you attach your amPlug2 and play out loud (but not loud enough to annoy the neighbours. The wonderful Vox 50 watt amp/cab stack Mini Superbeetle Audio blue tooth speaker also doubles as a guitar amp, complete with amPlug2 compatibility, but at full volume, this would definitely annoy the next door neighbours, and possibly those further afield. The amPlug has given me new found freedom to play and practice without needing to wait for opportunities where it can be done without audibly intruding on the personal space of others in the household. I have subsequently invested in the equally good Classic Rock amPlug2 (and which, on balance, I prefer), together with both the aforementioned Vox Mini amPlug2 cab/speaker and Superbeetle Audio blue tooth amp/speaker stack. Basically, the freedom afforded by the amPlug2 headphone amp has reinvigorated my love of guitar playing, and I try to squeeze in some practice time on a daily basis. I even felt enthused enough to unnecessarily treat myself to a new guitar. This amPlug2 is real value for money, but it has inadvertently cost me a small fortune.johnclark1954

Bought the headphones for my 6 yr old Granddaughter. She absolutely loves using her new headphones! I love the built in volume limit so that she won’t turn up the volume too high and damage her hearing. She loves the “soft and squishy” earpieces and the bow that she can replace with a different bow or remove all together.Grammy

Bought these for my young daughter. Tried these, connected via Bluetooth, and the volume goes as high, if not higher, than any of my personal headphones or earbuds. The sound quality is also very poor, so it's especially painful at full volume, even for an adult. I'll be returning these. Otherwise, Bluetooth connected fine. The charging light seemed finicky, didn't seem to indicate when fully charged.Sean

I bought this items a week ago. I was so excited because my daughter loves My Little Pony and we needed headphones for her for long car rides. The picture shows the headphones to be beautifully pink with the pink pony on the side. However what I received was more of an off brand set of headphones. Although the box says"my little pony," it definitely was not that. Color was like a dull purple with little unicorns on them. Returned the item as I felt ripped off by what I received as opposed to what was advertised.denisee94

My 3 year old son loves Batman. He was excited to get the headphones. They are great for iPad or in the car portable DVD player for trips. As a kid they don’t understand turning the volume up can hurt their ears. The headphones don’t let the volume go super high. I did take a star off because the headphones only lasted two weeks before the pad fell off. We ended up putting super glue in the three prongs and stuck back in. So far beside that they have held up well.Tink8er

These headphones are comfortable, cute, and seem sturdy. However, we ended up returning them because of the child safety volume control. We bought them for our children to use in the car with the portable dvd players, but with the car running, even at full volume, you could not hear the movie. In defense of the headphones, the dvd players do not have the best sound quality (although they are new); however, when we hooked up non-child safety headphones we could hear fine. If your child is going to be using these for media that is very loud, they should work fine. If you are using them for something like a car dvd player, they probably will not work for you.Mommy2BeGA
