Best Headphones For Electric Guitar (Jan 2023 Update)

I recently a BOSS Katana Artist MkII amplifier (which I have reviewed elsewhere) and love it. However, it is somewhat of a pain to connect my phone and studio headphones to it to do a little nighttime jamming – both of those require cables, which makes setup and teardown enough pain that I don't want to do it. When I heard of the WAZA-AIR, I found it is almost exactly a Katana in convenient headphone shape. To be clear, I love this thing. It sounds good enough that I will play it and it is a snap to get started. I traded a Fender Mustang Micro for the WAZA-AIR, and the two are not even in the same ballpark. To be fair, the Mustang is about a third the price, so I'm not surprised, but if you are struggling to get a good sound from a Mustang – and if you have the cash – the WAZA-AIR is likely to do what you need. The software and firmware are…finicky at times. There are a few oddities that I can't explain that differ from the Katana software. For instance, it appears that I cannot use both a Booster and the Modulation at the same time. I don't get that. I can still connect a wireless MIDI controller to the WAZA-AIR, and that might open up more possibilities. It's also another investment, and I'm still trying to determine if being able to hit a pedal is worth it. Overall, I do recommend the WAZA-AIR. It sounds great, the convenience can't be beaten, and it is just very solid and feels right. There are a couple of strange parts that – so far – do not detract enough from the experience for me to try to change them. If you are reading this now, I recommend you give it a try. I am not sure, but I don't think anyone has ever invented this. It's just headphones that connect to your electric guitar wirelessly, right? In fact, I was just thinking of this, before I discovered these on Sam Ash – because i was sitting there, tangled in headphone wires, guitar cables, and I wondered – can't somebody do this wirelessly? So I did a search, and voi la! Here's the other thing – inside the phones, it sounds like outside the phones. In other words, these are not JUST wireless guitar headphones – they are wireless amplifier headphones. The one thing I don't like – and maybe someone knows the answer – but, the controls, through the app, are pretty limited. Or at least, it's not like a amp modeler, like Spark. But then, Spark is not like Amplitube – actually models hundreds of real amplifier setups – from the real world. If the WAZA could pair up with something like Amplitube, it would be over the top.kronikole

I just bought a couple of these on sale price to add to my early-stage home studio. Overall, I'm pleased with these. I think they're great to throw on each of my band members to lay down tracks. Plenty of low end to keep the drummer and bassist happy, high freqs don't offend, and mids sound good. In fact, I'm not really sure what my issue is with these. However, when I'm mixing and think I have a good sound, I'll compare with a pair of Skull Candy Aviators and Apple Ear pods and find different issues with each. Not huge issues, but usually something to do with the mid to mid-high range. It SEEMS like these color their mid freqs. a tad. I know all headphones are different and it is good practice to often switch between different sets for reference, and it could totally be inexperience on my part as a mixer, but these are the issues I've come across after 20+ hours of use. It is not something that would discourage me from recommending these to fellow home studio dudes and dudettes. Probably not for audiophiles, but if you are one, you're probably not even shopping in this price range to begin with. Meh … but, shoot, what should one expect for such a low price? While these cans are fairly lightweight, they are fairly well built, overall. Comfortable, with little or no "microphonic" distractions (meaning one does not hear noise from the cable or headband or earphone receiver cups – as occurs so often on inexpensive headphones.) Cable is lightweight and does not feel as durable as the rest of the unit. Headband copies many other headphones, such as the venerable SONY 7506 and some Audio-Technica studio monitors – and is just OK (no complaint, but nothing special,either). Sound signature is dark, muffled, and lacking detail. Mid range and treble frequencies are subdued and dull. Bass is muddy and lacks punch, and disappointing overall. But, this is what one USUALLY expects and gets at this price point. In contrast, the similarly priced Takstar HD-2000 has a far cleaner, more open, and detailed audio profile, and Superlux HD-661 andHD-672 for an additional ten to fifteen buckaroos are WAY more open, clear, clean, punchy, and neutral – i.e., accurate – and represent a huge bargain among affordable headphones. Similarly the JVC HRA-R700 are a much more substantial product with far superior sound, close to the Superlux, (which I think are the current performance value leaders in this market segment. Therefore, while the Musician's Gear headphones are … um … just OK … they ARE, ultimately, worth what you pay for them. I guess. I will probably give these away to someone without any headphones. I rate them 3 stars because they are just average, ordinary cans for the price – as I think there are better alternatives for the same or just a little more of your hard earned brass. And this is just MY take – your mileage may vary.TT

GREAT HEADPHONES for GREAT PRICE! ~ Took a little bit of time to arrive, but well worth the wait. – IMPORTANT NOTE: I destroyed my headphones by trying to splice the wire in-order to shorten them, the cord is quite long…, but, when I cut the cord, it was Impossible to re-connect they barely have any insulation between the wires, I ended up buying another pair. My dad is a preacher and I found cds of recordings of his sermons. Along with his speeches, I also listen to different recordings and use these headphones for precise listening. I find they're comfortable but I really purchases these because I know how great Shure's warranty is for customers. I was a huge audiophile growing up and used their in ear buds for years, whenever they needed support or help, shures warranty came through for me. I got the new 840's last night, overnight shipping was sweet. The new design is great, and while they felt more "consumery" out of the box – this is not so. The new headphones are lighter in weight, clearer sounding, overall more comfortable, and the swivel mechanism for the ear-cups is much more robust in design where the previous version was bit less stable. I'm still breaking them in, but so far they sound great! Sonic image is nice and wide, spatially detailed, very smooth overall and not as dark as the previous model, the low end is very forward still but tighter sounding, and the midrange is right where it needs to be, vocals are clean and present with exceptional realism. Not to mention the isolation the closed back design offers is a beautiful thing! Highly recommend the latest version, it even comes with a straight cable.Aaron K.

It's hard to find anything negative about this headphone. Excellent sound all around at every frequency. Excellent American engineering for fit, weight, and clamp pressure. Some people with huge heads or really big hair may have an issue but my large head has room to spare. The only thing I would strongly request is for Shure to offer a shorter straight cable ( 4-5 foot ) for casual music listeners which I am. A spool of 10' of cable is a bit much. You can cover both, professional and personal use with two different lengths of cable. Thank you very much Shure for your efforts ( employees ) in developing a great headphone.John L

I’ve had these headphones for several months now, and they’re still as good as the day I got them. I wasn’t looking for anything fancy, just functional and affordable, which they definitely are. I had a problem with skull candy headphones breaking on me (I went through 4 or 5 pairs in a year) but these feel super sturdy. The sound quality and noise blocking is excellent, and I love having co trip buttons on the phones themselves. My complaints are on the microphone, when I try to have a phone conversation, I get told I pick up a lot of background noise or that I sound like I’m going through a tunnel. also, the low battery notification is way too frequent and irregular. Sometimes it will notify you every 30 seconds, or 2 minutes… either way, having a song interrupted multiple times to tell me something I’m already aware of is irritating.RayBird440

Good detailed sound, cuts out external noise when listening, battery lasts forever, charges quickly, quick and good bluetooth connection, stay connected over distances and through walls. I don't want to keep a phone next to my head for long periods of time or really at all, so I use these most often to talk on the phone or when listening to my recordings, environment must be quiet for microphone input to be good, not silent, not noisy. I don't have to keep them connected for calls, connection takes only a few seconds. I got them for $20 but I'd say they could sell for $40-$50. Only complaint is personal, it's not quite comfortable for my ears, maybe my ears are big or awkward shaped, or I'm wearing them wrong with bad placement, but I can keep them on for a few hours, rest for 10 minutes then put them back on. They can get quite loud and keep good quality too.RedSocrates

I've never been one to spend over $50 on headphones and these were just short of that. My ears don't work well w/ in-ear options either so I took a chance on the JLab Audio Bluetooth headphones. I even bought the accidental coverage because I know how clumsy I can be. Pros: – easy to connect and rename on my mobile device – the audio quality between lows, mids and highs are pretty impressive. – the headphones have never been so loud to blow out my ears. – grips to my head pretty well without concern of slipping while I walk, jog, hike, row machine, stationary bike and even when I'm doing boxing basics. – Accidental coverage: I did need to use it and it was completely worth it that I bought it again on my next set. Mainly you pay the accidental cost which was in the low $10-$15's if I recall correctly. Totally worth it! No hassle, most stores have an abundance of these, and I walked out w/ a new one. – My son and daughter kept stealing it from me as it works great on their school Zoom meetings and school laptops. Wired headphones… way more affordable, yes, but these are actual just as ideal for my kids (even for P.E.) – With COVID I work remotely… with these headphones we aren't competing in audio volume and during my work and school hours… we just have to worry about our speaking volume. Cons: – not sure why but audio from my MacPro or HP Laptop are never clean. I actually owned the earlier cheaper/discontinued model before it broke and never had poor Windows/Mac audio. – it's fragile… I'm clumsy and with very low impact and the right angle… it landed perfectly on the ground affecting the volume buttons. I attempted to fix it myself, opened the headphone housing itself and discovered it was far too damaged. If you aren't ready to move up to higher quality headphones or just looking at budget friendly options like me… I highly recommend these!JoeSandyEggo

I had read that the band adjusters for these headphones were very stiff and didn't extend enough to fit some users heads comfortably but I had neither of these problems and found them very comfortable to wear, with very soft enclosing earpads (and I have big ears!) The sound quality listening to music via bluetooth is great and latency seems low. Many reviewers have commented that these phones emphasise the bass, possibly slightly too much, but comparison with my older wired headphones actually seemed to give a little less bass than them, so who knows. They work well and are nice looking, I would recommend the OneOdio A70 headphones.jellyfishaudio

When I bought these headphones I had been looking around for a replacement for some cheap ones I had had beforehand that had broken. After shopping around I found these to be a really good balance between high quality and still not too expensive. I do think they are a little lacking in bass but overall they sound fantastic with a really good balance of sounds. Every sound is most clear. For those that are looking for casual headphones to use around everyday or on travel, these may not be suitable since they are studio headphones, are quite large and bulky. They cannot be worn around the neck comfortably either. But for those that are looking for well rounded headphones with strong sound for computer work, sound or music work or for use in an actual studio, they are perfect since they are comfortable and have little to no external noise. Great for tracking. Especially backup vocals. I bought them at a 50% off sale. But after hearing them, I could see myself paying full price if I were too wear these out. I got exposed to the AKG K271s when I was tracking my first album in 5 different studios. One of the studios, where I spent the bulk of my tracking time [200 hrs] had these. I was sold in the first session. These you could keep on for hours without major ear irritation and, for folks that wear glasses like me, they don't grind your glasses ear stems into your head or at least way less than other headphones. The K271s also have a great feature in that you can peel off one ear and the audio to that ear stops. That's great for tracking string players who typically want to track with only one ear in the phones; the same is true for choir members. These work wonderfully for those applications. I also keep a pair plugged into my Roland XV-88 keyboard when playing it. It almost goes without saying how great they sound. Frequency spectrum is hugely wide, bass is solid and fat, and highs are crisp and clean. I have 8 pairs of these in my little home studio for tracking small choir groups and I even keep a couple as safety spares but that is probably pointless since they aren't likely to go out anytime soon. If you are particular about the country of manufacture [some are some aren't], the K271s come in two issues: the original issue was simply called "K271 Studio" and they were Made in Austria, the subsequent issue are what we have now the "K271 MKII" which is actually Made in China. I, personally, have no issues with the people of China but I do have issues with their government. That being said, BOTH issues are outstanding in quality. Functionally, I also love that the pads are easily replaceable and they come in two textures: plastic/leatherette and felt. I have found the felt to be better for very long sessions as they don't retain as much heat. These phones are also light feeling and don't weigh down your head after long periods of usage. The headstrap is very comfortable and it allows for easy auto-adjustment when you put them on. You don't have to fidget with getting them just right on your ears and head. They do that for you. Brilliant, elegant, functional design. It doesn't get much better. I wish all pro audio equipment was as functional, affordable, and well-designed as these phones.whitehorse64

I waited a bit before writing this to really get a good view of these headphones. I had some issues along the way with them but everything is now sorted. Sound Quality: These headphones sound great for all kinds of things. I listen to a lot of music across a lot of types and the 702's have no issues sounding great for just about anything and everything I put through them. I will say it takes some time to break them in and you should be cautious for the first few weeks of listening as they can be initially harsh like any headphone out of the box. I was coming up from a pair of 240's and can really hear the difference. Comfort: The 702's are really easy to wear all day be it at work or for a recording session or if you are just lying around. They are on the bigger side but sit nicely on the head and dont weigh you down at all. The cups are soft and unobtrusive. Build Quality: While the headphones are made as well as any other consumer grade product these days mine were not issue free. First off I must say that I understand there are duds in any batch and if that was the only issue then so be it. However AKG (Harmon) ultimately serviced the headphones and did a very poor job which was somewhat frustrating I would still recommend these headphones considering the sale prices and the quality but I do feel I should share this story. Heres what happened so you can decide for your self… Initially I had no issues with the headphones, they worked flawlessly for 2 months out of the box. At about the 2 month mark i started having some intermittent issues with the left ear, moving around tended to fix it but ultimately the ear cut out all together. I initially thought it was the cable and ordered a replacement only to find it was not the cable so off to the service center it went. I will say AKG was quick and responsive getting me the shipping info and a pre-paid box to send them in which i greatly appreciated. The headphones came back a few weeks later in working order and i was excited. ~3 weeks later the left ear got intermittent again! Same issue, same remedy and it ultimately cut out a week after that. I decided to dive in and pop the side open to see what was going on. There are other repair videos online and the headphones are easy to open up. I was somewhat appalled at what I found. It was clear that the connection wire had been ripped of the solder point the first time and was re-connected during the service. However the wire case was all mangled and melted from the re-solder job and during re-assembly two of the wires were pinched in between some plates which prevented the cup from properly moving and also caused the wires to be ripped out of the joints again if the cup was moved. I was easily able to re-solder the wire and decided to add some heat shrink covering to remedy the case melt issue but I was pretty appealed at the quality of the repair. A proper re-assembly allowed full motion of the cup as well. I have been using the headphones since my own repair for the last 3 months with absolutely no issues. Aside from the issues with the service which I was ultimately able to sort out these are great headphones that I would still recommend.David

The sound is great on this headphones. Even though its made in china the quality of sound im getting is still better from the other competition. However since is a flat response headphones it only means not everyone will love this. The comfort though is my biggest problem with this headphones. The made in austria one has a smooth leather but this one though same faux leather its a bit harder. It does sit on your head nice, just a nitty gritty on my part. The ear pads arent the best, the made in austria one is a bit bigger and softer. The one here is a bit hard and its the only flaw i find with this. I would suggest to buy a bigger and softer padding. The sound changes a bit like bigger sound stage and you can notice the difference immediately but for my preference its good for me. If i wanted something that sits directly to my hear i got my closed back for that. For mixing this is awesome especially with a dac. Theres just so much to hear. This headphone can get very loud like really loud but it can take it. I just hope this lasts my extensive usage.John

Ive been using the ATH M50x phones for several years and needed something better for the mixing and mastering stage of music production. Ive never tried any AKG before, but I have used Beyerdynamic 770 DT's before. Compared to the 770's purposes the AKG 702 seems to do it a little better. The K 702s are a ton more comfortable, but more importantly I was able to level up my mixing of a track that I at the time decided was good enough. After listening to the track with the K 702s I immediately had to make several changes. In a few hours I accomplished what I was trying to do for a few days compared to the ATH M50xs that I was using at the time for mixing and mastering. I would say very solid start in my entry to industry standard phones and dare I say results in my tracks.SASHA

I already have a pair of traditional wired ATH-M50X but decided to treat myself to the bluetooth version. They are basically the same headphone I already have, but without a cord. They do come with a cord, but it is quite short and isn't coiled. They come with a USB charging cord that is VERY short at about 14 inches. I find this a little too short, but it gets the job done. The instructions were a little TOO simple and consisted of just images and very little text. It was enough to get me started, but there was no information for any sort of troubleshooting. As this is my first bluetooth device, a little more information would have been helpful. The problem I had was once I connected with the transmitter that connects to my 'legacy' equipment, that was the sole device the headphone wanted to connect to. It took a little fiddling around to figure out how to get the headphone to connect to my laptop and cell phone. It would have been nice to have troubleshooting instructions. All that being said, the headphones sound as great as the wired version. I haven't had any problems with interference or a dropped signal. My house isn't very big so I can't really get out of range without going outside which I haven't tried yet to see how far the signal reaches. Great Headphones!!Nancy

I wanted to spoil myself to new headphones and these looked great and with solid reviews. I’d already used richer sounds for JBL and AKG having not tried those brands, so I knew I was in safe hands. I know these are often described as reference or studio headphones, so I was a little concerned the bass would be little light. However, I have no complaints whatsoever. They sound just neutral enough without being flat, and there is great clarity across most genres. Bluetooth connection is simple, although the app is pointless. The buttons are easily accessed, although the central button for pausing is really difficult to differentiate from the volume buttons. Build quality is excellent and they comfortable for hours on end. The included bag is a bit naff, so I might invest in something later if we can ever travel again! All in all, I would recommend to anyone but die hard bass heads. Sounds as good as Bose and Sony for less money.Cookie2

Headphones that I use with my smart phone and iPod. I had an old pair of this model and needed to update when the wires on the old pair frayed, I like the head phones but some updates to the design I am not crazy about, For instance the ear pieces are smaller, the cord is my longer, and the plug piece is thicker, making it more difficult to use when I am charging the phone. overall I am happy with the headphones and will consider buy Shure products in the future #sweepstakesJim G

The SRH240As are great for studio use as well as practice and general listening. They give on the whole a very transparent and clear representation of the mix, with a very slight "warming" of the signal compared to a set of dedicated studio monitors. I think you'd be very, very hard pushed to find a better pair of headphones at this price-point.Michael S.

After a couple of visits to the Cheltenham store I decided to buy them and I am so glad I did. In store I used my phone to audition them but it wasn't until I bought them and plugged them into my Naim separates at home that I realised why they had such good reviews everywhere. Sound quality is fantastic, I would describe them as well balanced and natural. They don't emphasize bass or treble, they are very detailed and easy to listen to for hours on end without fatigue. Build quality is first class, they are so light and comfortable and do not cause any discomfort, even over long periods of listening. The isolation is first class enabling listening without bothering others in the room. Nice that Shure have included a spare set of pads and a spare cable. I've noticed an improvement in sound as they are now starting to get run in. I highly recommend them!Eagle 1

Hi All, I use these without an amp through my iphone se 2020 with apple dongle dac and with a schitt heresy to similar results. Obviously the heresy is better but not a paradigm shift. Been listening for about a month. Have tried over 40 hp's to get here. Finally found my all rounders! I stream through hifi streaming mostly and am particularly impressed by the versatility of these headphones. Electronic genres sound deep, full bodied, clean; vocals are detailed, present, centered (so important to me, i prefer a slightly vocal forward sound stage (i dont like the hifiman sundaras presentation of vocals for reference, 6xx sounds maybe a bit too forward but lovely for david crosby etc. singer acoustic music), and the 1540s sound very nice even compared to 6xx for this genre, but quite different actually. Vocals have more texture on 1540, more detail, but less area, i.e. a bit less spread out, less enveloping. I attribute this to the closed back design. Best closed back soundstage for the price imo. DCA aeon RT are another option, and akg k553 mkii for a cheaper option, but k553 mkii lack comfort and highs can be harsh, no good. However, on the 1540, even horns/strings sound so good! Not DT 880 level but surprisingly good, for closed back a real achievment tbh, this is the key part of why I'm keeping them forever. Rock guitars sound very nice, instrument separation is natural. There is a slight echo in the closed back design, but it's kind of nice too, gives snares a little more snap and whack. Compared to srh 840, the 1540s are flatter and much more comfortable. Bass sounds better, highs are maybe dull in comparison but pump it loud and you'll be excited, trust me. Normally, i like vocals center, at medium volume, bass is beautifully present too, at high volumes these become so much fun, yet smooth! and the high pressure of the accentuated bass and closed back design feels good with metal and dub. This headphone are a giant step up from my Sony MDR-7506's in terms of sound. I used the Sony's mainly for tracking/editing voice over and I will probably still use them for that. The Shure's are tonally quite different. The Sony's emphasize mids to an unnatural degree but make them great for finding and revealing mistakes in audio. I am not sure I would use the Shure's for reference as they do have a boost in the upper bass area away from the Harmon Target. Otherwise they are spot on and sound great with most music. There have been a few occasions where this bass boost can muddy up some songs but this is fairly rare with what I listen to. At first they clamped my head pretty tight but with some use they are becoming very comfortable. For a closed back design I think these are one of the best options for price/sound quality. I bought these on the stupid deal of the day. They were very inexpensive, and I got what I paid for it. I have a much higher end pair of AKG headphones, and there's no comparison. These sound thin, and have a mid-range honk in them. Four basic listening to music, they would be okay. They don't measure up to my Sony 7506's at all. For the average listener just wanting a pair of headphones to listen to music, they're okay. However, if I were to use them in a studio application, they would be useless. I've been recording for more years than I can remember, and while my 7506 headphones have been my go-to, my upper intake AG's have a different sound, but they're very neutral. They have a great balance. I kind of thought this would be similar, but I should have known for the price I paid, which was less than 1/10 of my good ones, that they wouldn't measure up. Astonishing sound for the price. If you want low cost, quality materials, light, comfortable and a transparent sound go no further. The cable is thicker, longer and more durable than most in this price range. The cunning headband results in a set of headphones that will not squeeze your head until your eyes pop out so very comfortable for long listening sessions. I am surprised at the transparency of the sound, using my classic NAD and Sony amplifiers the sound stage is good, bass is thick and detailed, the highs are crisp but not sibilant. Mids are perhaps slightly muted but a little EQ sorts that out. These are closed back and leakage is minimal, but they don't suffer the boxy sound that often comes with low cost closed back headphones. Overall the sound is vibrant, detailed and agile. There is no mushiness, boomy bass or shrill highs. If you drive these with a decent source they will deliver a good approximation of what you put in. Highly recommended, for the price these are excellent value.radiomarko

I bought these headphones about a year ago, so I can tell you a lot about it. First of all, I like this large size. There is no pressure on the ears. Secondly, it is a long and flexible wire, which is a big plus for me. And most importantly, the sound that is the BEST for the money. Perhaps the sound in these headphones is the most detailed and lightest of all that I have heard. As for the disadvantages, I want to say that it is impossible to replace the wire if you damaged it. When it comes time to buy new headphones, I will choose from AKG. Thanks a lot!Rodion

These headphones. Where do I start? I am not new to the game of 'audiophile' headphones. My everyday pair are Sennheiser HD650s. And for traveling I use a wonderful pair of Sennheiser Momentums. Grados are not a 'neutral' sound signature that you will use to mix audio. But, if you want to ENJOY your music? I cannot think of a better option at this price point. Everything I've put through these has renewed my love for them. Classical, rock, metal, alternative. I cannot find something that these present poorly. Maybe edm? They don't have skull crushing bass. But The bass is full bodied and not lacking in any way. Just doesn't punch since they're open back. Simply put, everyone needs to try these Grados. The build quality makes you think they're from the 80s, which was my initial draw to them. I guess I'm a hipster but I think they look awesome. Paired to my Fiio BTR5? I just love music again. They've also replaced my HD650s as my gaming headphones. Halo Infinite through these makes you think you are the master chief. So do I recommend these? Well it should be obvious by now lol. I bought these heaphones recently as I wanted to do some music listening later on at night whilst not disturbing others and I didn't want to spend a fortune in case my late night listening didn't go to plan. Well, I have to say these are perfect. I use them with a Creek headphone amp and they sound absolutely amazing. I would describe the sound overrall as very natural, there is a nicely extended base, lots of detail in recordings I hadn't heard before, sweet treble and mids, everything just sounds so musical. I have heard a £ 3,500 pair of Focal Labs and whilst these don't reach the same heights, on a cost basis these are absolutely stunning phones for the money…and I got them on a nice Richer Sounds price match deal. They do leak a bit of sound but that is to be expected with open back headphone design but the comfort and sound quality more than make up for this in my view. if you want a superb quality headphone with natural unforced music without spending silly money , I highly recommend these Grados. And when shopping around, the Richer Sounds price deal was the best I could find…once again. !Alex89

I’m still new to the world of high quality headphones and mixing, but I’m very impressed with these. I wanted a neutral pair of headphones as an additional mixing reference. I started with the BD 990 pro, but was unimpressed by the scooped mids and elevated treble. These may work ok for electronic music, but for basic rock, indie etc, they were far too coloured and useless as a reference. I didn’t even find them enjoyable to listen to (I own the closed BD 770’s, and much prefer their sound) The HD600 are so clear… I can hear things in tracks I have previously not been able to. As long as they are driven by something powerful enough, I find the bass response fine for the music I create. Highly recommended 👍Nick G.

A long time ago I had HD 250 Linear headphones, which I remember liking better. You can hear the bass frequencies fine with these, but I like them with more punch. There isn't a lot of isolation. I could still hear knocking at the door in the same room with the volume on medium. I'm pleased with the sound detail and the overall sound quality. I'd agree with any of the positive comments I've read in reviews regarding it. I know I have a good audiophile product. I say they are not comfortable because after listening to about four songs, I feel them squeezing my (thin) head too tightly. I haven't noticed a way to adjust it for that.noctiphile

Love these open back headphones. I find they are not too bassy and give you plenty of detail on the high end – great for hearing instruments you wouldn't normally catch on conventional headphones. Being open backed these are best used in a quiet environment but once you are listening you'll hear details you've never heard before in songs you've played a million times. The packaging is simple and gives you only what you need, however given these headphones are pretty powerful you will want to pick up a DAC to amplify the sound (Fiio are a good brand to take a look at) and maybe a balanced cable to make the most of the sound. The HD600s are a great entry point to audiophile products at an affordable price and will stay good for as long as you look after them! Good for a Christmas present for those who love their music.tristan.p

The sound is flat, as a monitoring set these are not designed for music listening. Size of the ear muffs is good, I would consider these to be average and would fit most ears. Overall size is not for a bald person with an average head, as they fit big and tend to droop down, or at least for me. With a hat or beanie, these work perfectly!Jonathan

This is a great product for the price. I do highly recommend buying these for listening to music & for recording. I highly doubt you will find a better pair of headphones in an electronics store for twice as much. However, I DO NOT recommend using these for mixing/mastering due to the lack of flatness in the sound quality. The bass is pretty intense for mixing/mastering in my opinion. I use several different pairs of headphones for mixing/mastering, just to get an overall 'feel' for the sound of the mix, so for that reason I don't regret buying these. Bottom line? Buy these headphones! You won't regret it.Jam4sam

Ordered these for an upcoming recording project. They don't fit real comfortably and become sweaty quickly. There isn't a lot of clean low end you'd expect from a headphone. I'm going to keep them to complete the recording project, my mates aren't too picky. The cables will be plenty long enough. I will be wearing different phones to better monitor the mix. On a side note….2 days after I ordered two of these, the two pack went on the sdotd on another site. If you need a cheap headphone…and see that deal….you might be okay. The service from American Musical was of course good, as it always is.SteveK

These ATH-M50x don't "exagerate" anything to the point of being distracting and "untrue" to the original source, however they will only be as good as the source you use. It is a very natural sounding, open, listening experience.Theres plenty of punch, warmth and depth, together with detail galore. Every frequency has "space". At no point do these headphones sound restricted or limited. Mid range is clear and smooth and the highs are very pleasent indeed..If you like well balanced, honest sound, suitable for long periods then this is for you. Pls! This is my first headphone of audiophile grade. Before buying ATH-M50X I got all the relevant details from HeadphoneZone gurus. I would suggest that every headphone buyer should first talk to HeadphoneZone guru before making any purchase. Based on your taste of music genre and listening habits they would suggest right headphones. I had confusion between ATH-M50x and DT 770 Pro. It's been more than a month with these cans and I am loving it. In online reviews you might see people suggesting that these can be used without DAC/AMP but that's not true. If you want to unleash the true sound I would really recommend to get a dedicated DAC/AMP. I am using ATH-M50x with iBasso DC03 (also bought from HeadphoneZone) and could really understand the difference and what these cans are capable of. I am using the following combination: Dolby Atmos Music Mode(OnePlus 7T Pro) + EQ tweaking(10 band EQ with 7T Pro) + Audio Technica ATH-M50x + iBasso DC03 + Gaana (Plus/Premium Subscription) and now each of the songs are sounding way more beautiful. I guess since DC03 has dual DAC and that might be the reaon it's so powerful and it doesn't eat up much battery as well. I do reccomend these as they are ideal for DJ work and suited well to DJ controller outputs with a decent output range, they are not overly bass heavy but just right, the parts are easy to replace if needed, and they are better qaulity than other DJ headphones. These are nice and light and feel and fit well. I use them for general listening and reference at times also which is always ideal. Very good qaulity pair of headphones.william m.

It was a sad day when one of the earpieces in my PX-100s went dead and I discovered that there was no practical fix for this discontinued model. I was happy to discover the HD 25, heavier but more rugged and reasonably comfortable, providing the accurate sound I was looking for. These do double-duty for me, both listing to music while I work and editing video and building soundtracks at home. They do exactly what I need. I think the HD 25s and I will have a great future together thanks, in part, to the fact that the cables on these are designed to be easily replaced.Richard

Headphones are comfortable and the sound is excellent. I bought my wife the "lite" version and liked them so much I ordered a pair myself. They were on endless backorder, so I "upgraded" to the HD 25s. The sound exactly the same as the "Lite" version, but these are a little more sturdy. I consider these headphones a good value because although they aren't "cheap", you aren't "paying for the name" like if you bought a pair of Beats or Bose.Tony

Very Comfortable like pillows on your head the Sound Quality is Outstanding Destroys any BOSE or Apple Product. they are a little demanding as far as Power is concerned. but the Sound Quality is so good. They are Really good at Blocking out the outside Noise so NO need for noise canceling which i feel hurts sound quality. i give them a solid 9 out of 10. My other Headphones i use to compare to are Meze Audio Classic 99, Grado 325i, and Sennheiser HD600's the only reason for a 9 out of 10 is due to the Power Demands these need to really Sing, and the fact they don't have changeable Cables. While testing i Ran a Creek audio headphone Amp with a Rega Planet CD player. For the Price you CAN'T get a better sounding Headphone. They will work good with any Media player source or as I prefer to use a Fiio BTR5 and make them wireless.zeberia

Build quality is excellent, but points shaved off for the dangling wires that link the cans, and for a permanently linked cable, meaning it will not be a simple job to replace, should it become damaged. The sound is a little flat overall, but still better than the lower end headphones (compared against £40 – £80 Sony, Sennheiser, and AKG’s). This is not an issue with what I wanted, as it’s mainly to edit Voice (Narrating and Voiceovers), and listening to music is still very good, picking up all the range with clarity and depth. Could be better, but not by much. They work well on both my laptop and my studio mixer, which is why I chose the 80Ω version. They block out external sounds, and keep the internal sounds contained, even with the volume is high. Rumour has it that the sound is much better on the 32 and 250Ω versions, and may look at a future purchase of these. The comfort is excellent, and the velour pads are perfect, even when worn for 2 hours at a time. Studiospares provided an excellent price and service, and have other high quality products that range from competitive to excellent value for money.George K.

Newegg shipped quickly and it was packaged well. I burned the headphones in for about 30 hours before using them as I always notice a big difference in warmth, mids and lows. I bought these cans as a complement to my Sennheiser HD598, which are in the same price range, since the 598s are slightly lacking in deep bass, even though I use an amp. The Beyers sound good, but not as good as I was hoping. The Beyers definitely have more bass, being closed back, while the Senns are open backed. However, I found them lacking in mids and highs compared to the Senns. And even though they are known to have a large soundstage for closed backed phones, they can't compare to the Sennheiser's soundstage. But what made the final choice for me was the comfort level. Even though both sets weigh about the same, the Beyers felt far heavier for some reason. They also made my ears sweat. So I sent them back. Newegg was great about returning them. For decades I have used MDR 7506, 7509, 7510, and 7520 headphones from Sony. Sony discontinued all but the 7506, and it's too bad because the 7520s were spectacularly accurate, detailed, and reliable in all ways. (I have been a location sound guy for film, a producer, director, and editor for same, and now I record audiobooks. I have spent much time with headphones.) 7506 are a bit of a professional default in broadcasting and film; good price point, dependably rugged to a point, and a sound that you know. (A little like Yamaha NS-10 near field speakers…in other words, nothing stellar, but you know what you are getting.) Having recently been on a hunt for cans to replace my 7520s, (and currently using Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro), and I picked up a set of 7506s after years of not having them, and I have to say they are fine-ish but do not excel in any way. They are good for location sound, they are even good for general music listening and TV viewing, but they are in no way mastering headphones, nor are they good for hours-long voiceover work. I find them reasonably balanced, if a little bass-heavy (good for location work because you can year your problems better), but the upper mids, where your speech is, is super harsh. Like a knife in your ears harsh. There is a really peculiar resonance that just makes it impossible to not be distracted, and to really depend on what you are hearing. While they are, again, a defacto standard in the pro world, they leave a ton to be desired in terms of true accuracy and long term use. I recently tried a series of cans from AKG, Austrian Audio, Sonys I imported from Japan, and 7506s, and they all performed way below the DT770 Pro in accuracy, balance, comfort, and all around performance. Also, over the years, the 7506 ear pads have gotten lower in comfort, so I replaced them right away with other, deeper pads. This does affect the sound, if you choose to go this route. Doesn't make it better or worse, but does make it different and you have to recalibrate your ears and brain to get used to it. So if you buy these knowing what you are getting into, they are a good value, but that is about it.Stephen

Not for listening to music, but for accurately monitoring recordings. The frequency response is as flat as possible, ensuring you are hearing what you recorded with no added low end. However, I still listen to music with them and they suit the purpose perfectly. Overall a solid, classic design. Does exactly what it claims. The only flaw is one that can be avoided – don't rip them off your head and clap the cans together or the foam from the earpieces will wear out and become disconnected from the glue holding them to the cans, and you'll have to reglue them after trying to precisely fit it back. Just be responsible and they will take care of you for many years. I swear by them to the point that I've bought them 3 times, and keep the boxes in my mic cabinet.rgdood12345

I've been using the MDR-7506 Headphones for the last 25+ years, I really love the way they sound. I use them for studio and live applications and they always deliver a clear sound with great definition. I never get tired of their sound. During the last 4 months, I bought the 3 sets of headphones from another brand, the first time it was their 250 ohms version, then I tried the 80, and last the 32 ohms version. I returned all of them within a day of purchase, I guess I really wanted to have those headphones because they look cool and I think I gave them a fair chance (maybe because of their tight isolation of external noise/sound and great soft feel on my ears), but I ended up buying more MDR-7506 instead, maybe I'm an addict to their sound as I used to be to my old Yamaha NS-10 (I had 3 pairs of those). But, since this is a review for the Sony 7506, all I can say is that I will stick to them. I've produced at least 15 albums and 2000+ jingles using them, maybe that's the reason why I love them so much.Hedras Roderico

Never used noise canceling headphones before. Price was right to try on recent flight. Comfortable over my ears. Could not hear buzzing airplane noises usually hear when wearing earbuds. Also could not hear my husband unless he tapped me on my shoulder. Did occasionally hear a crying baby. Normally am a nervous flyer but was able to fall asleep wearing these while listening to a meditation podcast! Liked how they folded up flat into my purse leaving plenty of room for other items. Dont be fooled but these kids sized headphones,they pack enough punch to rival many $20-40 competitors. Great value for the price,on sale for $10. Can turn the volume up all the way on my s9plus phone, since my actual s22 ultra doesnt have 3.5 mm jack, without distortion. Built in amps are made so people dont blow them up.These headphones dont have extreme bass nor ear piercing tweeters. Nor does it sound like the more expensive,garbage turtle beach brand,that closely resemble a cup with a string attached to another cup. Exceptional balance focused around mid tones,not too high,not too low,while bass lower frequencies are clear and present. It has decent noise canceling cushions,being not able to hear someone in a quiet room 5 ft away with only %50 volume up with any genre of songs,is pretty good.Super lightweight,and they fold up,but need much care,that skimpy cable wont last long if it keeps being bent in ways its not supposed to. First things first, the description for these headphones lists them as being "over-the-ear" but they are not! These are on-ear, meaning that they will not envelop your ear the way a larger headphone would; they sit on top of the ear. They have an "L-Shaped" jack, and the cable is unique…it is very pliable but remains to be seen how well it will hold up over time. The pros: They are super lightweight, headband tension not too strong, and have decent sound quality for the casual listener. I also like the way they fold up. Cons: They feel cheaply-made, and padding is extremely minimal, so not very comfotable for extended periods of wear. Also, as mentioned, the product description is a bit misleading. Due to this, they also are not great at blocking out background noise. The smaller 30mm drivers also keep these from delivering a lot of bass, but hit mid-tones pretty well. Bottom Line: These are a pretty great sounding headphone for $20, and would work well for casual listeners. I am happy with the purchase so far. However, build quality is a bit of a concern, so I'd recommend those with active lifestyles to search out something a bit more durable/comfortable.Joshua
