Best Headphone For Bass Guitar (Jan 2023 Update)

After trying the Samsung buds pro, I was very surprised how uncomfortable they were, and how there was almost no noise cancelling. I also tried the Bose 700 and the Bose QuietComfort earbuds, I was dissatisfied with the design and noise canceling level. Also their app was not working properly. After seeing that the Sony was on sale, and after reading great reviews, I bought them. I was instantly impressed. The app has many more features, and works perfectly. The noise canceling is great. One of the greatest features, is that without even having my Bluetooth turned on on my phone, I can place the back of the left ear piece against the back of my Samsung Galaxy phone, and through NFC, without the app even running, and the headphones powered off, the headphones power on, and turn on Bluetooth on my phone and connect. When you connect the included cable between the headphones and your device, for some reason the noise canceling is even better. I am going to check into this to see why this might be as it does not make sense. The app allows you to adjust the ambient sound so that you can go from complete noise canceling all the way to being able to hear cars and noises around you. Most of the options for the headphones can also be controlled by buttons or swiping on the earpieces. It's been decades since I've owned a Sony product, and this reminds me of the quality that I remember seeing in Sony products. Since I don't want to always have bluetooth on because I'm not sure of the health risks involved, my research showed that when you plug in the cable it turns off the Bluetooth in the headphones. I tested this out by trying to reconnect via Bluetooth while the cable is plugged in. The phone was unable to find the headphones, which supports what I read, namely that Bluetooth is turned off in the headphones when you plug in the cable. Luckily found these on sale and had rewards points making them a great deal with super quality. They are also comfortable, lightweight and seem to have great battery life and quick charging via USB C. The only potential problem that I've discovered is that when wearing them outside in the wind, I do hear some of the wind. However these were not mainly purchased for outdoor use.sgp617

The sound quality is simply terrific, approximately as good as a set of wired headphones of similar cost. The wireless link is reliable, no interference or dropouts noted though in fairness I usually use these with my phone which is never more than a few feet away. I purchased these in part to replace a set of headphones that I use when I cut my grass. That is a very challenging environment for noise reduction as it contains wide band noise from very low frequencies up to almost the limit of human hearing. The noise is also at a fairly high decibel decibel level, something like 90+dba at 1 m. The headphones knocks the mower noise down to a really surprising level, and even with the noise reduction working that hard the audio still sounds great. I also very much appreciate the touch features of these headphones. My experience with non-phone/computer gesture sensing has not been good. However these sense tap and swipe gestures very reliably. The headphones come in a small zippered case and include accessories such as an airplane adapter and hardwired cable. They charge in three hours or less, usually much less, from USB-C. Sony also has an app available for iOS and android that provides various settings for noise reduction, equalizer, and setting the function of a dedicated button on the headphones. I can't speak to the iOS version but the android version works well, I've had absolutely no issues with it. Overall I think these are a great choice, and well worth the price.Mark

It would not be fair to claim one is outright better than the other – the better question is what do you prefer? It is too difficult to recommend either the QC45 or the Sony XM4s over the other. Since I am fortunate to own both – here are notes/thoughts from my own experience – Sound Quality: Sony have an impressive soundstage especially with bass-heavy music. Sonys seem to have a greater volume output and maintain a well rounded/uniform sound from low to maximum volume ranges. Sonys are well suited for all music and especially impressive with bass-heavy music. They have a warm sound and one can enjoy listening to music at volume for a longer period of time compared to the Bose. If I want to listen/feel like Im hearing something at a club, Ill go for the Sony. If I want to appreciate vocals or instruments in a song, Ill prefer the Bose. Bose have an impressive soundstage with music that emphasize vocals or live instruments – in my experience you can hear more detail and pick instruments apart from one another with the Bose. The potential downside with such clarity and emphasis on the highs may be that you experience fatigue as volume is increased towards the max with I can best describe in my non-audiophile lingo as sharp treble. Build Quality/Comfort: Materials are comparable. Bose and Sony use a combo of faux leather and plastic. Sonys have bulkier earcups but the exterior of their headphones feature more premium feeling matte textured plastic. Bose have a slimline feel/look by comparison but have a more simplistic plastic feel to the exterior of their cans. My nod on build quality go to Bose though; the Sonys have already started to creak a bit when I wear them with slight movements of the head. This slight creaky noise originate where the band connects to each earcup. While Sony might exhibit slightly more premium materials, the build construction and lack of any creaks/rattles or looseness of the Bose and the slinky feel of the latter (along with the faux leather/more compact protective case) make the QC45s the winner here. Both are equally comfortable – draw on comfort. Noise Cancellation Both are impressive. Imo, I prefer the ANC of the Sony in cases where consistent low frequency noise is apparent. In cases such as flying, the Sony drown out the lower freqs and almost cloak it with a somewhat perceptible yet satisfying hiss/white noise. Bose do a godd job too with the lower frequencies but their slight edge might be in fighting against higher freq noise such as in a coffee shop. Other Notes: Sony capacitive touch controls can be both convenient and fun but at times just as frustrating. I enjoy swiping forward and backward for songs in a playlist (Bose can only skip forward) but changing volume or pausing music is more clunky. I only want to skip one or two tracks at a time so a swipe is convenient, but changing the volume is easier with a several quick clicks instead of several swipes. The quicker the swipe can be hard for the capacitive controls. When I take the headphones off though, its nice that the Sony tech knows (80% of the time) to pause the music. EQ Control/App: Sony has a better EQ App offering more adjustability that suits your preferences. Bose have a preferable phone-call experience and ambient mode gives me greater awareness of how loud I am talking out loud when on a call. TLDR: If you have a QC35 or XM3, this is a worthy upgrade. Owners of previous Sony XM ANC headsets may notice a slight degarde in material quality but the upgrade in tech everywhere else is a fair trade. XM4s are as good as the newer QC45s and trade the uber-detailed and crisp sound sound with an impressive bass positive soundstage and warm, full and balanced sound profile. Sony wins with its warm sound, immersive soundstage and ANC. Consumers who value the foremost vocal and instrument detail at the expense of bass will want to check out the QC45 instead.Szluski

When I started using them, the bass seemed to alternate between the two sides rather than be in sync. The alternating bass problem got fixed after a few more minutes of using it, and I was satisfied. I really liked them when they worked okay, I'm assuming like how they're supposed to, for watching movies, the bass was really satisfying and made me feel like there was a movie theatre in my ears, until I laid on my side while in bed, it was then that the alternating bass came back, and if I got too comfortable there's another sound that's hard to describe, but I want to say kind of like a woodpecker pecking on wood, it's kind of easily noticeable. There is also the problem with the hissing when noise cancelling is on. Personally I would tolerate the hissing more if the noise cancelling worked better, I tested it by tapping on a table for a minute, and it was really audible. The only real complaints I have is the alternating bass problem, and the noise cancelling quality. For 300$ you'd expect a better experience, and this is coming from a skullcandy fan. I got these on sale but even still, if the price for these were lower I wouldn't be as unsatisfied as I am. Personally, even with 3 breaking on me, I had a much better experience with the Crushers than the Crusher ANC with the little bit I've used them.Elizer V.

Have some Momentum III’s that I thought were really nice. After buying the Crusher’s and burning them in for about 20 hours, they are decent and have lots to “ridiculous”bass noise depending where you adjust the slider. The problem is it is mostly just noise when compared to my Momentum III’s. The bass on the Senns when you tweek it a couple decibels sounds so much better. The mids and treble on the crushers is also decent but lacking the polish of the Senns. They are a little tight on larger heads so gonna send them back. The new Sony 4’s sound really good in the store so save my money for those and see how they do in a side by side. Price does reflect quality to a large extent in headphones it seems.steven

I’m terribly disappointed with these headphones 1. It’s states over the ear, but really the cups sit on your ears somewhat, unless you have tiny ears then they would probably be considered over the ear. 2. I find these headphones extremely tight on my head, which over extended periods of wearing starts to hurt my head 3. The sound quality is terrible, I have a wired pair of HD595 sennheisers that are amazing in sound and comfort, when I compare these wireless headphones to the sennheisers the one huge difference is distortion, there is so much bass in these headphones I find when I turn up the volume the distortion / sound quality is really really poor. I adjusted the bass boost all the way down to see if that would make an improvement and it was very minor. For the cost of these I was expecting a little better sound quality. These headphones sound so great and very comfortable, I bought two more. The Pro-30 & the Pro-50. I wish I knew about them before I purchased my Beats headset. I have purchased some cheap headphones in my day. All of them were terrible. I have purchased soem expensive headphones as well, Pioneer, AKG, Sennheiser, and I promise you. THESE ARE BETTER. They have 50mm drivers that just pound. I have not tried using a headphone amp but for 50$ you can buy a tube amp that would make these headphones sound even better. They are comfy, and they come with two cords, that are re-moveable. A feature only offered on high end headphones. And the cable is SO NICE. It even has a bend protector on the cable. very nice! The sound is rich and full, sounds just as good or better than a pair of Beats. using these for Ableton and Serato. BUY THESE. I PROMISE they won't let you down.honestdealsusa

The headphones are good. The customer service is not. I received what I ordered which included a boom mic to be connected to and used with headphones. However, the cord on the boom mic does not fit into the port on the headphones. It is too small. Only one cord in the box fits and it is an extension cord with no volume or mute controls on it.

I have emailed back and forth with their CS, and all I get are replies for more information, which I had already provide in the previous emails. I was then asked for a video of the problem and even with that, I received a reply asking for more information. Extremely frustrating since they only have a foreign number to call.

After many months of deliberation I finally took the plunge to purchase the HD800S. They sit alongside my PMC OB1 speakers, Cambridge 851 streamer and Class A headphone amp… But wow!, what a revelation -hearing detail/ plucks and scratching of strings, nuances of breath in vocals, and things previously masked or missing from what I've heard before. Yes, these are extremely revealing, and not for the feint hearted if your source is first generation CDs with their sand-paper harsh A-D recordings. But play a quality source, or even vinyl, and you'll be rewarded with detail you never knew was there, like a 20yr old single malt. Some reviews have noted a thinness in the bass. Not at all. It is smooth, clean and extended. True, its never going to compete with the window rattling /chest thumping 100 Watts pumping through the OB1s transmission line speakers -coloured by the resonances of the listening room, but this is not what headphones are about. This is about sweet sensual immersion in the finesse of the detail and the performance of the musicians. As for construction, yes you definitely know you're handling a top-end product. 'Substantial' without being overly heavy. They fit well, even for spectacle wearers, and are cool and comfy. The connection lead is plenty long enough, and super-flexible textile-covered, meaning it drapes where its put rather than getting hung up and awkwardly in the way like 'traditional' cable. The icing on the cake is the quality hinged-lid storage box to keep them safe out of the way when not in use. If I had a criticism, I'd have preferred a little more space in the box to quickly drop the lead into without having to loop it in. Would I buy them again? Yes.Terminal Connection

Let me start by saying that if you are looking at these for your next headphone purchase, this probably is not the first review you’ve looked at. So, I’ll start things off with the negative things I’ve heard other reviewers mention. The spike in the mid highs regarding specifically the “s” vocals and the lack of solid bass response. To my ears, the HD800S is very bright. But, in my case not in a way that is fatiguing to listen to but rather in a way that lets the incredible resolution that they offer shine through. The instrument separation has me rediscovering tracks I’ve been listening to for decades and hearing sounds within the music that I didn’t even know was there. If there is any negative to that, it’s that it creates a very analytical listening experience where I’m not really just letting the song take me away but more so focusing in on the track and paying attention. I’m sure after the honeymoon phase I’ll go back to the escape of the music but for now, it’s exciting to discover. The bass response without boosting it slightly for my taste was a little lacking. In most audiophile circles, I know what I’m about to say is considered sacrilege. However, I’m not so pretentious as to admit that with an EQ bump this was solved and didn’t “muddy” the experience in the least. It only required a few hours of tuning to find the sweet spot for me and I didn’t look at it again. As a side note, I use these as my main audio source for gaming as well and in that regard there really isn’t any comparison. The soundstage is so wide that you can point to the direction sound is coming from and how far away that sound is. If you play games, I don’t have to emphasize the importance of this but more importantly to me that having a competitive advantage it immerses you in that world more than I can put into words. It just needs to be experienced to understand. In short form, if you have been searching for headphones that can do it all I can’t suggest you look elsewhere. They’re expensive and you will need a good amplifier to boot, but they’re worth the price of admission. List of headphones I’ve used before for gaming: Astro A50, Arctis Pro, Cloud X, Razer Nari, and a bunch of older ones not worth mentioning. Ladies, gentlemen, NB's don't let them fool you. It's as good as they say. The resolution and soundstage simply doesn't compare. Their technical performance is sublime. If you're used to the HD650 you might find them a bit bright at first, but then you hear details you have never heard before. Every sound is placed exactly where it should be, and reproduce as precisely as it was intended. Axel Grell crated one of the finest resolving headphones in the world. The tonality might not be as warm as you'd like, but with amp that eases off any harshness left in the treble the headphones come alive and close to perfect. You'd have to spend well above this price to gain any more meaningful performance. That's your $4000+ Hifimans and the legendary Sennheiser HE-1 which costs $59k.Seph

These ATH-M50x don't "exagerate" anything to the point of being distracting and "untrue" to the original source, however they will only be as good as the source you use. It is a very natural sounding, open, listening experience.Theres plenty of punch, warmth and depth, together with detail galore. Every frequency has "space". At no point do these headphones sound restricted or limited. Mid range is clear and smooth and the highs are very pleasent indeed..If you like well balanced, honest sound, suitable for long periods then this is for you. Pls! This is my first headphone of audiophile grade. Before buying ATH-M50X I got all the relevant details from HeadphoneZone gurus. I would suggest that every headphone buyer should first talk to HeadphoneZone guru before making any purchase. Based on your taste of music genre and listening habits they would suggest right headphones. I had confusion between ATH-M50x and DT 770 Pro. It's been more than a month with these cans and I am loving it. In online reviews you might see people suggesting that these can be used without DAC/AMP but that's not true. If you want to unleash the true sound I would really recommend to get a dedicated DAC/AMP. I am using ATH-M50x with iBasso DC03 (also bought from HeadphoneZone) and could really understand the difference and what these cans are capable of. I am using the following combination: Dolby Atmos Music Mode(OnePlus 7T Pro) + EQ tweaking(10 band EQ with 7T Pro) + Audio Technica ATH-M50x + iBasso DC03 + Gaana (Plus/Premium Subscription) and now each of the songs are sounding way more beautiful. I guess since DC03 has dual DAC and that might be the reaon it's so powerful and it doesn't eat up much battery as well. I’ve had these headphones for several months now, and they’re still as good as the day I got them. I wasn’t looking for anything fancy, just functional and affordable, which they definitely are. I had a problem with skull candy headphones breaking on me (I went through 4 or 5 pairs in a year) but these feel super sturdy. The sound quality and noise blocking is excellent, and I love having co trip buttons on the phones themselves. My complaints are on the microphone, when I try to have a phone conversation, I get told I pick up a lot of background noise or that I sound like I’m going through a tunnel. also, the low battery notification is way too frequent and irregular. Sometimes it will notify you every 30 seconds, or 2 minutes… either way, having a song interrupted multiple times to tell me something I’m already aware of is irritating.RayBird440

Good detailed sound, cuts out external noise when listening, battery lasts forever, charges quickly, quick and good bluetooth connection, stay connected over distances and through walls. I don't want to keep a phone next to my head for long periods of time or really at all, so I use these most often to talk on the phone or when listening to my recordings, environment must be quiet for microphone input to be good, not silent, not noisy. I don't have to keep them connected for calls, connection takes only a few seconds. I got them for $20 but I'd say they could sell for $40-$50. Only complaint is personal, it's not quite comfortable for my ears, maybe my ears are big or awkward shaped, or I'm wearing them wrong with bad placement, but I can keep them on for a few hours, rest for 10 minutes then put them back on. I've never been one to spend over $50 on headphones and these were just short of that. My ears don't work well w/ in-ear options either so I took a chance on the JLab Audio Bluetooth headphones. I even bought the accidental coverage because I know how clumsy I can be. Pros: – easy to connect and rename on my mobile device – the audio quality between lows, mids and highs are pretty impressive. – the headphones have never been so loud to blow out my ears. – grips to my head pretty well without concern of slipping while I walk, jog, hike, row machine, stationary bike and even when I'm doing boxing basics. – Accidental coverage: I did need to use it and it was completely worth it that I bought it again on my next set. Mainly you pay the accidental cost which was in the low $10-$15's if I recall correctly. Totally worth it! No hassle, most stores have an abundance of these, and I walked out w/ a new one. – My son and daughter kept stealing it from me as it works great on their school Zoom meetings and school laptops. Wired headphones… way more affordable, yes, but these are actual just as ideal for my kids (even for P.E.) – With COVID I work remotely… with these headphones we aren't competing in audio volume and during my work and school hours… we just have to worry about our speaking volume. Cons: – not sure why but audio from my MacPro or HP Laptop are never clean. I actually owned the earlier cheaper/discontinued model before it broke and never had poor Windows/Mac audio. – it's fragile… I'm clumsy and with very low impact and the right angle… it landed perfectly on the ground affecting the volume buttons. I attempted to fix it myself, opened the headphone housing itself and discovered it was far too damaged. If you aren't ready to move up to higher quality headphones or just looking at budget friendly options like me… I highly recommend these!JoeSandyEggo

The sound quality isn`t the best, but really good considering no amp is required. It`s great being able to play tracks through the headphones. It has been very useful, as I often work away from home and can practice silently in the hotel room, without having to take my practice amp.Dave T.

I dislike giving unfavorable reviews but these headphones were a significant disappointment. I echo much of the reviewers in stating these headphones are muddy-sounding and lack mid and up clarity (IMHO). The lower-mids and below is muddy without clarity (though dominate). I got these headphones on a SDOTD to have reasonable closed-back headphones to listen to music while my partner has Web conferences in the same room (she insists on using speakers). These headphones do isolate reasonable-well. However the performance has gotten to me more and more. Putting on my very old Kenwood headphones from the early 80's is a breath of fresh air after listening to these. Note I am used to listening to open and semi-open back headphones so you may want to take this into account. I gave these three-stars which I think is generous. I know – picky picky! If the bass is too strong, just turn it down a little! It's really not that bad, but compared to my other headsets, it is a bit heavy in the mid to upper bass. I probably would have given it 4 1/2 stars if that were possible, but I like them enough that I didn't want to down-rate them. I bought these to replace an Audio-Technica ATH-M35 set that died, couldn't be repaired, and are no longer available. These are so similar that I wondered if they might have come from the same manufacturer. These are lightweight, comfortable when worn for long sessions, and overall have a clean, smooth sound, except for the slight rise in bass response. For a lightweight set they do fairly well at blocking ambient noise, and they cover the ears well. I would recommend against them for DJ or on-location mixing because of the lightweight construction, but for general listening or lighter-duty work, they work well.Bill

I use them mainly for listening to music via my laptop. They're comfortable and sound great imo. I have other Tascam recording gear, so I'm familiar with their brand quality. I got them on sale. After doing some online research for best extra Bass headphones I came across Sony and going to it's webpage it showed this model after watching a few online videos futher review reading for this wired headphone set I made the purchase in March. With this Sony model it is very good for the price point under the price $100 price range. This why I give it 5 stars. They are not noise canceling but I don't care about that feature. I don't have a budget to pay over a $100 for headphones no matter how much better they might be with noise cancelling that I probably wwoun't notice anyway. The best thing about these headphones is not just the added Bass it produces but great sounds from all 3 sound ranges. Plus block out some outside noise like when a person is talking right at you. This headphone is good enough for an average music listener even for audiophiles that just like to hear extra Bass in Hi-FI. Not only are the sounds so perfect and natural in Bass the earcuffs and headband are all so comfortable you can wear these for long hours on end and your ears should never hurt. The headband is adjustable with the underneath padding at the top so a users head won't hurt either because they are also very lightweight. I have a V20 with a 32 bit QUAD DAC so that is why I chose these wired headphones over bluetooth. With my phone these headphones are just so good. For under $60.00 your not going fined a much better brand with extra bass. The matte black finish on the plastic earcuffs doesn't look so bad in aesthetics compared to previous version in shiny metal. I should mention the mic works great. It's perfect using this headphone set for talking on the phone for private converstations. I like the thickness of the cord so it won't tangle, break or stretch easily. The earcuffs rotate outward for loudspeaker effect. So there is stereo sound with 2 speakers instead of just one external loud speaker.ScottInWinterHaven

TBH, most of the time when I listen to music, I'll grab whatever headphones are closest (given I already filter out some of the worst offenders as they come into the house). These are borderline for me since I listen to a pretty wide variety of stuff and when they really fall flat, it's noticeable enough to be disappointing, but if your favorite genres are top/bottom heavy or if you set your EQ to U-shape and jam, you'll really LOVE these. I bought them for a bit over $20 and would still be happy to own them if they cost twice that. Physically they are very light. The cable is unique – like a flat egg noodle pasta ribbon, does not seem to unplug from the 'cans'. The cups rotate to lay very flat but do not collapse into a tight package. Despite being light, the plastic feels strong/durable. I'd still normally carry them in a case, though. The headband doesn't pinch your head tightly. The cups are a flimsy thin plastic but they do a tremendous job of sealing out the sounds of the outside world. ** For anything under thirty dollars, these are a tremendous value. If you want normally want bump rap or techno or if you want to be in your own sonic world, these are a great choice even at a higher price.Adam D.

I got these at memorial day sale price of 100 at local best buy. I had got my son a half price sale model line noise canceling of JBL headphones at Christmas time that were really good, so I figured these at 35 buck more would really blow the doors off the entry model. Ultimately, not so much. They do sound great, and the app is decent so far with this set. I like the idea of washable muffs… although it is not as simple as the book shows it and I will wait to fully remove the until really needed as I fear harming them. I think the set my son has is great at the around 100 price point, I got them at 65 normally 130. Do think the clarity and EQ settings on this are better, but would not have considered at all if not on sail. These did great as I actually use them as I mow the yard and the cancellation is significant (of course you can still hear some mower, but sounds was clear and not cranked. I would agree max volume is not ear splitting, but loud enough as I had range to increase even on my mower. If you need louder than these, you are probably damaging you hearing, or driving with your head out a window, riding a motorcycle (with loud pipes and no helmet) or at a gun range. Do think at the regular 300 price there are several brands to look at that do as well or better, having some experience with different headsets over the years. I'd like to meet the dope that put that giant bull's head button in the right ear cup and kick his butt. You cannot lay down with these things on because that stupid button gets pressed if you turn to the right and then the headphones announce loudly "Noise cancelling off!" and then a second later "Noise cancelling on!" then "Ambient aware!". I get it – these are meant for working out. But does it really need a button the size of a half-dollar coin? Sitting on a plane trying to sleep against the right window seat initiates a repeated chorus of noise cancelling alerts. Another complaint is the other controls. For $300 I expect separate volume, play, and skip buttons. Not this overpriced toy. There is one control that does everything and it sucks at doing everything. First it is positioned too far back – it's hard to reach. Second, the play and stop bit almost never works. Always ends up just increasing the volume. Third, to skip you have to press the volume button twice quickly and then it takes half an eternity to start the next track. And then there are the lights. You could work in a coalmine with the freaking light these things emit. Very bright (for goodness only knows why) white light shines from the front. Again, not good for laying down and listening and playing on your phone with 40 watts of white light glaring on it. Then there's the blue light on the bad which clearly meant to annoy your spouse as they sleep. Taped over the white light but the blue light is embedded in the On-Off switch. Best I could do was to color it with a black marker. The overall comfort is not too bad while standing or sitting. Simply dreadful laying down. The sound quality is excellent and the noise cancelling work great. For what I paid ($100 on sale) I can tolerate the bad bits but don't you even think about paying full price for these.DrOfdoom

This headset is loaded with features, most features hit close to 5 stars but not quite. Comfort: I have XXL size head (24"-24 1/2") and it fits me well – above average compared to others that Ive tried, Clamp force is high – just like any other ANC headset, it can start to hurt after few hours. 4 stars Sound: Quality is good, Its more focused on "live" immersion music setup (I have tried adjusting with EQ), it reminds me of Bose sound style of tune up, Im not the biggest fan of it because it lacks in very crisp highs and very deep lows, Max volume level not very high, I would say average at best. As Ive mentioned lacks in crisp highs and bass in general – if you try to increase those levels you will lose volume – its well known Bluetooth technology flaw. It does have fully featured app with custom EQ available. Overall sound quality feels premium but lacks in those areas Ive mentioned. 3.5 stars ANC: I would say its well above average and works quite well – I use it mostly at the gym and gives me plenty of isolation with higher volume. It has 2 different ANC settings. Bionic hearing for conversations also excellent and can be quickly turned on and off on the side of the headset. 5 stars Other features: Battery life is accurate and will last over 40 hours, Bluetooth range is on par with 5.0 version reach. Earcups are comfy and dries quickly – also washable. Dedicated app is excellent and covers all features and beyond. 5 stars I use them mostly for the gym and happy with them. Wish it had more volume and base, luckily ANC helps with isolation and higher volume is adequate. Things to consider: this headset may not work for you if you plan on using it for long sessions (work, study, gaming) – clamp force is high and will eventually start to bother you – also ears will warm up quite a bit. It may not be for you if you are avid music listener – sound quality is nice but lacks in volume and high/low range. My friend bought me this for Christmas and earlier I was so happy that he did. But these headphones are actually garbage. When I first started using them, whenever there wasn't audio playing it made a high-pitched noise. I tried to get used to it, but this noise only got louder and worse. I then tried to use it for my PC and it kept disconnecting and making weird sounds whenever I changed the volume. When the headphones are connected, disconnected, or ready to pair, it says it in a robot voice from the outside of the headphones. Personally, this is very annoying and the voice is way too loud. The audio is also delayed sometimes. To conclude, these headphones are the first and last product I have gotten from JLab and I do not recommend these to anyone.Enderiac

The Lab Studio Pro does provide a good quality sound for the price. It has the virtue of NOT being a noise-cancelling headset – which means you can listen to music but still hear when someone in the room is trying to get your attention. Unfortunately, the deal-breaker for me is that the microphone quality is terrible, resulting in a muffled sound as though the speaker's mouth is covered with a towel. That means this headset is absolutely not an option for someone who needs to attend web conferences. In addition, the bluetooth pairing is much more awkward than most other wireless sets I've used. It never pairs automatically, and when I'm done using it for the day, the pairing is lost but can't be re-established until I go into System Preferences and tell the computer to forget this device. Purchased this model several months ago to replace prior JLab headset that worked great for couple years but eventually fell apart, mechanically. Hoping for improved build quality, these have been an accelerating disappointment for other reasons. Initial experience: When used as a PC headset, others have complained of difficulty hearing me unless speaking annoyingly loud – not a deal breaker as this was not its primary usage. Current experience: What began as occasional (1x/mo) functionality issues (unable hear, control functions – resolved by disconnection/re-pairing device), recently became a regular issue (1-2x/wk). And now unable to resolve at all after hours of repeated disconnection/re-pairing, restarting headphones, restarting PC, etc. Aspects of issue similar to another review titled "Poor Driver support". Quite obviously based on the Beyerdynamic DT 770 which I've never tried but they were reviewed as one of the more comfortable headphones for prolonged use and I was on a budget so went with the Behringer BH 770. These headphones are amazing, they are very similar to the SONY MDRXB950BT but If you love heavy bass more then I would get the 950BT's. The noise cancelling is amazing and drowns out 90 percent of the sound around me especially this annoying loud fan. Headphones also has app support which the 950BT's dont nor does it have noise cancelling. I must also say these headphones have better durability, the 950BTs had this cheap plastic that can easily break or snap which it did, had to use super glue to put it back together but the 950N1 you can tell off the bat the build quality is do much better, I know if I put these on my head or drop them I wont have to worry about them breaking like the 950BTs. Sound quality I'll give to the 950N1s because everything is balanced compared to the 950BTs which when you turn on bass boost, the bass overpowers the mids and highs. Oyea and the 950N1s fold up while the 950BTs dont. Overall 950N1s are hands down the best choice to get.dant-port

I have been using Sony headphones for years and never experienced headphones that break so easily without doing anything to them. I originally got these and was very impressed with the sound quality and all of its features. On that front they are A1. But within a few days of purchasing the part that connects the actual speaker to the band broke, on BOTH SIDES (at different times). They allowed me to return it to the store and exchange for a new one. Same thing happened AGAIN on both sides. I haven't even taken them outside of the house, they haven't dropped at all or suffered heavy impact AT ALL, they are just too sensitive, and made with cheap plastic. I usually don't leave reviews but for the price paid for these, it's unacceptable. I love Sony as a brand, but I'm extremely disappointed with this product. If I was careless with the product, I could understand them breaking, but it's clear that the product itself is faulty if it broke in the SAME spot TWICE, especially after I got the exchange I made it a point to be EXTRA careful with them, and the same thing happened while my other cheaper Sony headphones are long outlasting the newly purchased, more expensive ones. 9/10 I have tried very many over-ear headband headphones in my life. None have ever felt or sounded as good as these do. Other brands/styles give me headaches and don't provide enough bass response or are too "hissy" in the high registries. These headphones gave me none of those problems. The bluetooth functionality, companion app (that's super helpful with adjusting the bass effect), and the battery life are all amazing extra features. The sound is full and clear with all styles of music. I use them for everything from intense heavy metal, to bubbly k-pop, to podcasts and they perform wonderfully. The noise cancelling is minor, yet effective enough for me in my office environment to drown out the "How was your weekend?" conversations. I absolutely recommend them. Go for REFURBISHED since even though these are awesome, I don't think they're quite worth the full retail price.Wolfgang D.

I just bought a couple of these on sale price to add to my early-stage home studio. Overall, I'm pleased with these. I think they're great to throw on each of my band members to lay down tracks. Plenty of low end to keep the drummer and bassist happy, high freqs don't offend, and mids sound good. In fact, I'm not really sure what my issue is with these. However, when I'm mixing and think I have a good sound, I'll compare with a pair of Skull Candy Aviators and Apple Ear pods and find different issues with each. Not huge issues, but usually something to do with the mid to mid-high range. It SEEMS like these color their mid freqs. a tad. I know all headphones are different and it is good practice to often switch between different sets for reference, and it could totally be inexperience on my part as a mixer, but these are the issues I've come across after 20+ hours of use. It is not something that would discourage me from recommending these to fellow home studio dudes and dudettes. Probably not for audiophiles, but if you are one, you're probably not even shopping in this price range to begin with. Meh … but, shoot, what should one expect for such a low price? While these cans are fairly lightweight, they are fairly well built, overall. Comfortable, with little or no "microphonic" distractions (meaning one does not hear noise from the cable or headband or earphone receiver cups – as occurs so often on inexpensive headphones.) Cable is lightweight and does not feel as durable as the rest of the unit. Headband copies many other headphones, such as the venerable SONY 7506 and some Audio-Technica studio monitors – and is just OK (no complaint, but nothing special,either). Sound signature is dark, muffled, and lacking detail. Mid range and treble frequencies are subdued and dull. Bass is muddy and lacks punch, and disappointing overall. But, this is what one USUALLY expects and gets at this price point. In contrast, the similarly priced Takstar HD-2000 has a far cleaner, more open, and detailed audio profile, and Superlux HD-661 andHD-672 for an additional ten to fifteen buckaroos are WAY more open, clear, clean, punchy, and neutral – i.e., accurate – and represent a huge bargain among affordable headphones. Similarly the JVC HRA-R700 are a much more substantial product with far superior sound, close to the Superlux, (which I think are the current performance value leaders in this market segment. Therefore, while the Musician's Gear headphones are … um … just OK … they ARE, ultimately, worth what you pay for them. I guess. I will probably give these away to someone without any headphones. I rate them 3 stars because they are just average, ordinary cans for the price – as I think there are better alternatives for the same or just a little more of your hard earned brass. And this is just MY take – your mileage may vary.TT

Build quality is excellent, but points shaved off for the dangling wires that link the cans, and for a permanently linked cable, meaning it will not be a simple job to replace, should it become damaged. The sound is a little flat overall, but still better than the lower end headphones (compared against £40 – £80 Sony, Sennheiser, and AKG’s). This is not an issue with what I wanted, as it’s mainly to edit Voice (Narrating and Voiceovers), and listening to music is still very good, picking up all the range with clarity and depth. Could be better, but not by much. They work well on both my laptop and my studio mixer, which is why I chose the 80Ω version. They block out external sounds, and keep the internal sounds contained, even with the volume is high. Rumour has it that the sound is much better on the 32 and 250Ω versions, and may look at a future purchase of these. The comfort is excellent, and the velour pads are perfect, even when worn for 2 hours at a time. Studiospares provided an excellent price and service, and have other high quality products that range from competitive to excellent value for money.George K.

Newegg shipped quickly and it was packaged well. I burned the headphones in for about 30 hours before using them as I always notice a big difference in warmth, mids and lows. I bought these cans as a complement to my Sennheiser HD598, which are in the same price range, since the 598s are slightly lacking in deep bass, even though I use an amp. The Beyers sound good, but not as good as I was hoping. The Beyers definitely have more bass, being closed back, while the Senns are open backed. However, I found them lacking in mids and highs compared to the Senns. And even though they are known to have a large soundstage for closed backed phones, they can't compare to the Sennheiser's soundstage. But what made the final choice for me was the comfort level. Even though both sets weigh about the same, the Beyers felt far heavier for some reason. They also made my ears sweat. So I sent them back. Newegg was great about returning them. Very easy to set up & linked to the plug-in blue tooth transmitter on my TV straight away. Found the buttons (on/off volume etc.) on the outside of the earpiece a bit fiddly and clunky in design – although the overall 'feel' of the headphones is of good quality. The sound quality is also good – although a bit too much bass when the 'bass boost' is selected. However, I bought these to watch TV, not for a focussed audio experience, such as listening to music, so it doesn't bother me too much. In fact, the wonderful thing is the audio delay – in that there is none! Low latency really works and I can watch TV without any noticeable synch problems. The only problem I have really, is with the dimensions – These headphones have probably been designed by a man for a man. (Like lots of other things!) They're just too big for my head – even when adjusted to the 'lowest' level . I eventually solved this by putting some padding under the headpiece – not pretty, but at least the earpieces are able to be in the right position over my ears that way. Apart from that, other parts of the headphones are comfortable and well padded – and I've had no issues with 'hot ears' or pressure points anywhere. All in all, I think they're great headphones for the price. Not perfect, but almost certainly the best quality possible within this price range.Sharon P.

Had a hard time connecting to Avantree transmitter. Took many tries following earphone instructions and transmitter instructions. When they finally connected I wasn't sure what I did right. They had a good sound with nice bass that I like. Next time I used them it was the same thing all over again. Wouldn't connect after many tries. Just so you know, they connected right away with my cell pnone, but not the Avantree transmitter unitl many tries, and when they did, I again wasn't sure why. I guess I'm just to dumb to live, but I will keep trying until I discover the secret. I think these are a good product and a reasonable price compare to lots of others on the market. I just need to learn how to make them work with bluetooth. My cell phone shows that the phones are available to connect and I click to connect, but the Avantree doesn't have a screen to show that, so I don't know if it is seeing them and there is nothing to click to connect them. I would recommend the earphones, but am not comfortable with the method to connect them to the Avantree transmitter.Lynn V.

Never used noise canceling headphones before. Price was right to try on recent flight. Comfortable over my ears. Could not hear buzzing airplane noises usually hear when wearing earbuds. Also could not hear my husband unless he tapped me on my shoulder. Did occasionally hear a crying baby. Normally am a nervous flyer but was able to fall asleep wearing these while listening to a meditation podcast! Liked how they folded up flat into my purse leaving plenty of room for other items. Dont be fooled but these kids sized headphones,they pack enough punch to rival many $20-40 competitors. Great value for the price,on sale for $10. Can turn the volume up all the way on my s9plus phone, since my actual s22 ultra doesnt have 3.5 mm jack, without distortion. Built in amps are made so people dont blow them up.These headphones dont have extreme bass nor ear piercing tweeters. Nor does it sound like the more expensive,garbage turtle beach brand,that closely resemble a cup with a string attached to another cup. First things first, the description for these headphones lists them as being "over-the-ear" but they are not! These are on-ear, meaning that they will not envelop your ear the way a larger headphone would; they sit on top of the ear. They have an "L-Shaped" jack, and the cable is unique…it is very pliable but remains to be seen how well it will hold up over time. The pros: They are super lightweight, headband tension not too strong, and have decent sound quality for the casual listener. I also like the way they fold up. Cons: They feel cheaply-made, and padding is extremely minimal, so not very comfotable for extended periods of wear. Also, as mentioned, the product description is a bit misleading. Due to this, they also are not great at blocking out background noise. The smaller 30mm drivers also keep these from delivering a lot of bass, but hit mid-tones pretty well. Bottom Line: These are a pretty great sounding headphone for $20, and would work well for casual listeners. I am happy with the purchase so far. However, build quality is a bit of a concern, so I'd recommend those with active lifestyles to search out something a bit more durable/comfortable.Joshua

For decades I have used MDR 7506, 7509, 7510, and 7520 headphones from Sony. Sony discontinued all but the 7506, and it's too bad because the 7520s were spectacularly accurate, detailed, and reliable in all ways. (I have been a location sound guy for film, a producer, director, and editor for same, and now I record audiobooks. I have spent much time with headphones.) 7506 are a bit of a professional default in broadcasting and film; good price point, dependably rugged to a point, and a sound that you know. (A little like Yamaha NS-10 near field speakers…in other words, nothing stellar, but you know what you are getting.) Having recently been on a hunt for cans to replace my 7520s, (and currently using Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro), and I picked up a set of 7506s after years of not having them, and I have to say they are fine-ish but do not excel in any way. They are good for location sound, they are even good for general music listening and TV viewing, but they are in no way mastering headphones, nor are they good for hours-long voiceover work. I find them reasonably balanced, if a little bass-heavy (good for location work because you can year your problems better), but the upper mids, where your speech is, is super harsh. Like a knife in your ears harsh. There is a really peculiar resonance that just makes it impossible to not be distracted, and to really depend on what you are hearing. While they are, again, a defacto standard in the pro world, they leave a ton to be desired in terms of true accuracy and long term use. I recently tried a series of cans from AKG, Austrian Audio, Sonys I imported from Japan, and 7506s, and they all performed way below the DT770 Pro in accuracy, balance, comfort, and all around performance. Also, over the years, the 7506 ear pads have gotten lower in comfort, so I replaced them right away with other, deeper pads. This does affect the sound, if you choose to go this route. Doesn't make it better or worse, but does make it different and you have to recalibrate your ears and brain to get used to it. So if you buy these knowing what you are getting into, they are a good value, but that is about it.Stephen

However, I still listen to music with them and they suit the purpose perfectly. Overall a solid, classic design. Does exactly what it claims. The only flaw is one that can be avoided – don't rip them off your head and clap the cans together or the foam from the earpieces will wear out and become disconnected from the glue holding them to the cans, and you'll have to reglue them after trying to precisely fit it back. I've been using the MDR-7506 Headphones for the last 25+ years, I really love the way they sound. I use them for studio and live applications and they always deliver a clear sound with great definition. I never get tired of their sound. During the last 4 months, I bought the 3 sets of headphones from another brand, the first time it was their 250 ohms version, then I tried the 80, and last the 32 ohms version. I returned all of them within a day of purchase, I guess I really wanted to have those headphones because they look cool and I think I gave them a fair chance (maybe because of their tight isolation of external noise/sound and great soft feel on my ears), but I ended up buying more MDR-7506 instead, maybe I'm an addict to their sound as I used to be to my old Yamaha NS-10 (I had 3 pairs of those). But, since this is a review for the Sony 7506, all I can say is that I will stick to them. I've produced at least 15 albums and 2000+ jingles using them, maybe that's the reason why I love them so much.Hedras Roderico

Pros: These Sony headphones have a very good bass line. Not too much and not too little. The overall sound is clear and precise. They are comportable to wear. After doing some online research for best extra Bass headphones I came across Sony and going to it's webpage it showed this model after watching a few online videos futher review reading for this wired headphone set I made the purchase in March. With this Sony model it is very good for the price point under the price $100 price range. This why I give it 5 stars. They are not noise canceling but I don't care about that feature. I don't have a budget to pay over a $100 for headphones no matter how much better they might be with noise cancelling that I probably wwoun't notice anyway. The best thing about these headphones is not just the added Bass it produces but great sounds from all 3 sound ranges. Plus block out some outside noise like when a person is talking right at you. This headphone is good enough for an average music listener even for audiophiles that just like to hear extra Bass in Hi-FI. Not only are the sounds so perfect and natural in Bass the earcuffs and headband are all so comfortable you can wear these for long hours on end and your ears should never hurt. The headband is adjustable with the underneath padding at the top so a users head won't hurt either because they are also very lightweight. I have a V20 with a 32 bit QUAD DAC so that is why I chose these wired headphones over bluetooth. With my phone these headphones are just so good. For under $60.00 your not going fined a much better brand with extra bass. The matte black finish on the plastic earcuffs doesn't look so bad in aesthetics compared to previous version in shiny metal. I should mention the mic works great. It's perfect using this headphone set for talking on the phone for private converstations. I like the thickness of the cord so it won't tangle, break or stretch easily. The earcuffs rotate outward for loudspeaker effect. So there is stereo sound with 2 speakers instead of just one external loud speaker.ScottInWinterHaven

TBH, most of the time when I listen to music, I'll grab whatever headphones are closest (given I already filter out some of the worst offenders as they come into the house). These are borderline for me since I listen to a pretty wide variety of stuff and when they really fall flat, it's noticeable enough to be disappointing, but if your favorite genres are top/bottom heavy or if you set your EQ to U-shape and jam, you'll really LOVE these. I bought them for a bit over $20 and would still be happy to own them if they cost twice that. Physically they are very light. The cable is unique – like a flat egg noodle pasta ribbon, does not seem to unplug from the 'cans'. The cups rotate to lay very flat but do not collapse into a tight package. Despite being light, the plastic feels strong/durable. I'd still normally carry them in a case, though. The headband doesn't pinch your head tightly. The cups are a flimsy thin plastic but they do a tremendous job of sealing out the sounds of the outside world. ** For anything under thirty dollars, these are a tremendous value. If you want normally want bump rap or techno or if you want to be in your own sonic world, these are a great choice even at a higher price.Adam D.
