This preamp interface has ins and outs for a line (1/4 in.) or microphone (xlr). 48 v phantom power is onboard. i bought this item new but haven't used it except to check it to make sure it is working. i have several of them and they are great preamps for miking things, but what i use them most for is to record guitar or bass straight into logic. they will also work as a di in a live situation. the tube gives it a really warm sound. it has a phase reversal switch, input and output volume, and also a 20db boost switch.

I use this unit with an upright bass and a small bass amp. has a very nice sound. I am able to turn the gain down on the amp and and still get a clean powerful sound. The pro unit works better than the studio unit. I do have both! Works well with other instruments and vocal too.gtinstman1990
Sound: Quiet preamp unless you want a little tube grit. Compressor is very musical. One might want a bit more fine tuning control but at what cost? Features: This one unit can be a mic pre, instrument DI, even a guitar overdrive. Pretty useful. Ease of Use: Tweak a couple of knobs and let this baby sing. Quality: I have several ART products. They're built very well and pass the hard knock test. Value: Excellent bang for the buck. Manufacturer Support: I haven't had to deal with ART for service or repair on any of my items, some of which are nearing ten years old. The Wow Factor: I'm not much on wow. I prefer good quality at a reasonable price. Overall: This is the second Tube MP/C I have purchased. It's such a great value, I had to have another one. I have a small home studio which operates on a tight budget, so inexpensive, good quality gear is a must. I have been a fan of ART products for many years and I have never been disappointed. This particular unit is a real gem. I use several ribbon mics which are notorious for needing lots of gain. These have plenty of gain for any mic and the pre is very quiet. Overall: This is the second one of these I have purchased, primarily because I have been so happy with the first one. I don't own any $1000+ preamps so I can't compare this to those high-end units but for the money, this is an awfully good buy. The preamp is quiet within reasonable limits. Maybe with a mic that requires extraordinary drive levels, this would be a bit noisy but for all of the mics I have used with these it's drop dead quiet. The tube drive provides just the right amount of warmth for my needs. The built-in compressor is quite effective. It lacks the ability to really fine-tune attack, comp, etc, but it's very musical and I don't find that I need much else.Mark

Another victim of the pandemic. great preamp, runs on a single 12ax7, can be used either as a tube distortion or a preamp straight into a power amp. does everything from beautiful, sparkling cleans (think the best of fender and vox in one) to powerful, crushing distortion and everything in between. used exclusively in my smoke-free home for recording. it has a headphone out for quiet playing and a cab simulated output for running into an interface or front of house. this is the one i'm saddest about having to let go, but rent has to be paid and diapers for two little ones adds up quick. power supply included.

Also check out SansAmp Para Driver Tech21, which is a shaper/compressor type of box, and will not replace the SS-20, but give me the extra 80's hair band sound I need, that the SS-20 does not. I'm going to give it an 8 overall even though the features don't really work as advertised. The reason being is that for direct recording the cab sim out is fantastic and works wonders. It's far far superior to any digital amp modeler that I've ever tried, and I've tried them all. I changed the stock tube, which was very good by the way, just wanted a different flavor. I dropped in a groove tubes gold series and it just opened up and started singing to me. The clean channel is versitle and warm. The crunch will go from light fuzz to 70's arena rock. The high gain channel should be enough to please most metal fans and lead players, but is way more gain the I ever use. So you'll have to judge that one your self. Overall a great investment for direct recording. Just run the cab sim out by itself and add effects in the mix. I couldn't be happier with it for those purposes. I had hoped to use that FX loop but at the end of the day, the tone I'm putting to tape is far more important. Okay so I'm giving the features a 7 out of 10 when I would like to give it a 5 out of 10. Let me explain. Yes it has an fx loop, and yes you can use the direct out and the cab sim out at the same time but, it changes the tone of everything once you start plugging in cables. So for example say your using the cab sim out to the PA and you want to plug into the fx loop. The minute you do, the overall tone and feel of the sound change, almost like an eq curve being applied. Same goes for the direct out feeding a your combo, the cab sim gets darker sounding. That being said if you forgo the fx loop and only run the one output it sounds fantastic. Although the direct out sounds terrible to my amp. The cab sim sounds better feeding my amp then the direct does.nobody special
I play Christian rock in a church. Typically I go through a Roland KC-150 keyboard/PA amp (sometimes straight to the house PA). I do not own a decent tube amp and don't want to lug an 80lb amp from the sanctuary to the youth room anyway. So, I needed something that would provide great sound and portability. The AMT SS-20 does everything I need and it does it with great sound and versatility. I play a Suhr Custom electric guitar with dual humbuckers (with a single coil switch) and a Taylor acoustic. The SS-20 has what amounts to 3 channels clean/crunch/lead which accomodate everything I need with both guitars and does so with great sound (using the cab emulator out, of course). The clean channel sounds unbelievable, even with my Taylor. The crunch channel enables me to add power and gritty rhythm without being overwhelming. The lead channel is pure power. And it does all this and can fit into my guitar case! I have to also add that an invaluable addition to the SS-20 is Keeley's dual knob compressor. The two have produced for me a sound that is warm, sweet and sustained. Please note, however, that a noise gate pedal will be needed with this combination (especially on the lead channel).CMA

I wanted to test the speakers I designed using the smallest cheapest tube pre-amp. This amp was better then I ever imagined. It has a killer bass and treble section. I hooked it up to a cheapest LG CD player (the kind you can get for $9.95) My goal was to use cheap pre and CD units. I ran the pre-amp through a M3030 JVC class A AB power amp. The speakers are running 10 out of 10. IF you can spare the $50! BUY ONE OF THESE, they are that good. I also bought some higher end tubes but the ones with the unit sound excellent. It has only one set of RCA inputs but thats not a deal breaker. just hook up your ipod or a CD and let her RIP!Grant
There's good and bad here. The juicy part of this is SQ. It sounds pretty much like my Mcintosh C48 preamp. It definitely doesn't sound worse. I "upgraded" the tubes but I didn't hear any difference. I upgraded the opamps with burrbrown and I heard a little difference. Maybe better? Hard to say. More testing is required on my part; probably with better opamps. There are opamps costing over $100 each. And this preamp takes 2 opamps. So price for upgrades can get stupid, fast. I've already got like 80 bucks into it just for upgrades. I might not bother going any further. The sucky part of this preamp, that I have not read anywhere else, on anybody's review, is the awful pots. Why has no one mentioned these horrible pots? Each pot has about 40 detents. We only need 2 total for the whole preamp: center detents for the bass and treble knobs. The bass and treble knobs don't line up the same way on the pots. And with so many detents, good luck finding exact center for each one. The volume pot is bad. There are 2 detents in it that don't change the volume. But it shoots the volume up a bunch when turning past the bad detents. Or down too low when going down. These detents are close to each other in the normal usable range. Also, the preamp has too much gain. The usable volume range is in the bottom left quadrant. I dare you you to crank it past 9 o'clock!Daniel

I bought this amp based on the good print reviews and the way it sounded in you Tube reviews. I did a lot of homework and finally placed my order. I was excited when it showed up at my house and plugged my Jay Turser Les Paul copy right in. Boy, is this thing dark! I turned all the tone controls to 10. I changed the strings. I removed the covers from my pickups- that just made it dark and tinny. After three days I decided that I had to either send it back or make some changes. I took the speaker from a Squier 15 amp and installed it in the Bugera. Right away there was more life and clarity to the sound, though it still sounded tinny (because it's a speaker from a Squier 15), but it was some progress. Next I pulled tubes from a circa 1959 Curtis-Mathes console stereo and swapped them into the Bugera. Now we were getting somewhere- the overtones, the reason we use tubes, were now present and accounted for. The same console is full of Oxford speakers, which are a Jensen knockoff and well respected. I took an 8" from that and installed it in the V5. OH YEAH! Now this is a great little amp. The clean tones are super sweet, clear, full and bell-like with tons of sustain. The overdrive has a huge range of grit, and the reverb is better than any other amp I've had. So after installing a set of +/- 60 year old tubes and speaker, it sounds great. But out-of-the-box stock, I would have sent it back, no question. If you have a too-bright guitar or are willing to make upgrades, this amp is a super value. My one complaint about build quality is that the wattage selector switch is extremely touchy- it goes from .1 to 5 watts and has to be fiddled with to get it to stay on the 1 watt setting.Farmhand
This week I bought a duellist overdrive pedal from king of Tone, the Revival Drive from Origin Effects and this lovely little amp. The two pedals cost nearly £700 between them and the Bugera only £189 but my favourite tone comes from the Bugera itself largely because the built in attenuator allows you to really cook the single valves at pre amp and power amp stage without annoying the neighbours. This makes the Bugera a lot of fun. It’s tone control could be improved to raise the brightness but for the price I’m not complaining. This is definitely more of a British than an American tweed sound. And the addition of pedals – which it takes well – can potentially increase the brightness. The onboard 8 inch speaker is fine for practice and the amp is just about portable enough to use for travel. The speaker jack is accessible on the back panel, so it can be swapped easily for a guitar cabinet if you wanted to gig this machine or open up the sound (it’s 5 watts can still be loud enough for small venues). If, like me, you have been dependent on fender amps for home playing and you want a good alternative ‘Marshall’ sound at bedroom levels, then look no further!
Perfect at home tube amp. I generally use 1 watt mode. Great tone whether clean or breakup. Loves my telecaster and Boss BD-2 into it, and takes pedals great in general. Couldn’t get over how nice it looked when I unboxed mine, either. Beautiful looking amp on top of sounding great. Really an incredible value. If you are looking for a good practice amp modeler that is compact and has quite an array of effects and amps than the Pocket Pod should do the trick. I gig regularly and felt the Pocket Pod would be ideal for gigs where I didn't want to haul my tube amp around. Sound wise I'm not disappointed in hooking my pocket pod up to a sound board. However, where this product ultimately fails is there is NO On/Off switch! To activate the pod you plug your guitar directly into the input jack and it comes on. Once on you pretty much have to leave the guitar plugged in for your entire set or risk getting a loud pop through the PA system. And leaving the pod plugged in makes the pod get very warm and drains your batteries. I have a circuit breaker guitar cable so I can switch guitars without getting the dreaded pop in the PA system. I'm sure the people at Line 6 cut out the On/Off feature to save room. But I've never seen any piece of equipment that can't be turned off with a button. This is the synergy syn-1 a self contained preamp module for the synergy modular pre-amp system. this syn-1 comes without a module. it works great, sounds incredible thru any amp. i recomend downloading the instruction manual from synergy amplification website to getit to work. there is a four cable method in order to use correctly. the syn-1 includes a footswitch and cabgle as well as a power cable for the syn-1 box. the footswitch cable has 2 spots where the cable has beem rubbed- see the last 2 pics, fear not it works great. i'm selling this because i have the syn-2 and the synergy combo. i'm all in on the synergy gear! stuff is amazing.

Leclean version of the two notes pedal series. awesome recording preamp, or the way i used it was a pedal platform that allowed me to run direct to foh in an ampless configuration. using the on board cab sim, i d run the two channels in series (hot fusion) and get a really warm clean tone. then run whatever pedal(s) i wished for distortion. i used anything from a tube screamer to a plexi-drive to a blackstar ht dual with great results. split all that and my effects between a powered monitor and the board and i was happy as a freshwater clam! the only reason this and a few of my other pedals are being sold is i m in the fortunate position to be using a real amp at gigs again. otherwise this would be staying right where it is.

The Project Tubebox DS2 offers a lot of adjustability for what is essentially an entry level (by today's elevated prices!) phono stage. However the included wall-wort power supply really compromises the output. I bought a good quality stand alone power supply from China and this really opened out the soundstage. The comments below are with the upgraded power supply. I use a very low output moving coil cartridge (0.15mv) through an SUT and the Tubebox output on the 45db setting is perfectly matched and noise free. Compared to the already good built-in phono stage (a rebuilt and re-capped Sony TA-F730ES), stage width and depth are increased, depth in particular, and soloists/performers are projected more clearly out of the mix. Bass is slightly fuller and more nuanced than before. Mid range is excellent, and treble is sweeter and more natural. The slight softening at the very top makes overly bright productions more acceptable. All that you would expect from a valve phono stage.tomp164

I bought this unit on a whim while I was purchasing a couple overhead mics for an upcoming recording project. It would only make sense to get a dual preamp for a dual mic recording, especially if balance is a priority. I read a few quick online reviews while I was waiting and was a little dismayed by the barrage of negative feedback. However, this feedback is almost always from people who don't consider the application for the preamp and/or they judge everything against a Neve 1073 or something else in that price range. I was on my own. I took the chance. First thing when I got it home, I hooked up the new mics and started recording a simple but all-inclusive drum beat. I tried 5 or 6 different settings and was blown away. I tried 6 different 12ax7s and couldn't really find a distinguishable difference, which I guess is good because replacing the tube in this unit is relatively difficult and unpleasant. Since I have an abundance of EHs that I don't normally like, I decided to go with one of those. Now, when it comes to micing drums, everyone has their own tastes, but I prefer clarity and balance. From crash, to ride, to china it was beautiful. Who would have thought that a little harmonic distortion on drum overheads would affect depth and balance of a drum kit so well. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I WILL be buying more of these.RICHARD
In the larger spectrum of life most people will always think less of audio equipment knowing there is lots and lots of equipment that will cost you your life savings to own. I'm not always an advocate for those types of people and their faulty attitudes about music creation. Sometimes the equipment is not to blame for faulty operation or poor final output. The user has be to held responsible for what the equipment is capable of doing. I recently replaced a 5 watt Roland cube street with the more powerful cube street EX. I was disappointed that the EX did not come with Roland JC setting. The clean setting on the EX produced a sterile, cold sound that I warmed up nicely with the Behringer tube modeler. This was my only reason for purchasing this pedal. I have occasional use for a battery operated amp and this pedal allows me to get the warm tones that I require.Richard
Case is plastic to evidently help with cost. With the cost of musical equipment any help is great. I take very good care of equipment so I do not "stomp" on them. Pedal has quality sounds that seem to work within relm of eq'ing. This pedal has it's own drive built in although a bit sensitive. Take your time and you can dial in some quality tones and sounds. I play lots of various music ranging from southern, blues and Christian rock and have been able to fine something nice that works with each style or genre. Again the pedal controls seem a little sensitive so take your time when you start with the pedal. I enjoy expermiemting so this facet is a-ok by me. Over all good pedal.Bo L.
I've had the pedal a couple weeks now and I am more familiar with it. I may have written a previous review so this might be an update… I purchased this pedal for the few times I would have to play on others' amps that don't have any effects as I already have two very good modeling amps. It works great on the modeling amps with the clean channels selected. Recently I bought a Fender Blues Jr which has no effects. I am in a small space where you really can't crank up the volume. To cut to the chase, the TM300 can stand toe to toe with either of my modeling amps, either plugged into them or the Blues Jr. In the modeling amps it provides more clean voices than the amps do without a lot of fiddling. You can also use the distortion/overdrive features instead of the amps' native on-board features if you wish. It is very intuitive and if you take the time to play with it you can come up with some very interesting combinations. I have a Les Paul Custom and a Fender Strat. And though both have upgraded pickups I couldn't quite get the sounds I wanted. The LP was a little too jazz-like and muddy when played in distortion thru the amps. The Strat was just tinny and quacky. I was considering changing out the pickups in both a second time. The TM300 breathed new life into my LP. I can now dial in the sound I want without having the change the pickups. The Strat has a richer fuller sound when I want and the quack when I want. I got this one simply because it was cheap and I just wanted to play around. Venti cinco dolares? Are you kidding me??? The only drawbacks are: 1) It has a plastic housing. It's not heavy duty like a Boss. 2) If you use 9V batteries you have to take the stomper off the change them. A minor annoyance. 3) If you use batteries you have to be careful to unplug the unit after use or it will burn thru your battery in less than a day. Or you will have to buy a 9V adapter. BUT… If you don't want power cables and like to keep things neater, the battery option will help and will also make it more portable as you don't have to pack a power cable if you go anywhere with it. This is my 3rd Behringer pedal, and though not the best in the world I own 3 for 75 buckaroos… less than the price of one professional pedal. For an amateur they work fine and can help a newbie find out what they like and need in pedals without a lot of financial pain.

I use this for all instances where utilizing a condenser microphone. For recording, I keep the gain at about two and set the output at around -11. It really brings out the ambiance of the vocals, moving them to the front of the mix. While I am not a podcaster, I would highly recommend this for spoken word applications as well using a dynamic microphone… very clear. For live applications, this is great for micing any acoustic instrument, (guitar, violin, piano, etc.). It can produce a little bit of a hiss on live applications, but its hardly noticed over the other instruments running through the board. By comparison, I have three mixing consoles with phantom power, they can't touch this little baby as far as output and clarity. I have several of these that I have modded with NOS tubes. I think I used Mullards in these. They work out great if I have some guests sit in for some live jamming fun, and need a few more vocal/instrument channels. To a new vocalist, a little tube warmth and a some moderate reverb (perhaps even a touch of alcohol?) can really bring out the best in them and add to their enjoyment. I wouldn't promote these for serious studio recording, but they are great for open mic occasions and impromptu jam sessions.fmuscari

Overall: I own 2VLA II's and one PreSonus Studio Channel.. preface .. I bought 2 VLA from the big "A' new and both were used.. they went back in a hurry.. got 2 NEW VLA's ZZOUNDS and the were new as could be.. then I purchased a B-stock PreSonus from ZZOUNDS and it was a mess.. after a ten minute warm up it made my cheap Dean Bass notes sound like a honey.. very very good for bass. but after 20 minutes it fizzled and the push buttons didn't light. So I returned the problem one and bought another, this new from zZounds who were very patient, sorry about the B-stock junker sent me a pre paid shipping label and I must say at no time did I worry things would turn out fine which they have. Now to the matter at hand. I have one VLA dedicated to my MicroArranger (KORG) the other to a great stereo mike which sits in front of a cab w/two twelve' and powered by 2 Greta's (Fender) 2 watt amps isolated in another room as is another condenser which I switch between the Bass and another mike .. mono. Its really a tough call but I do know every thing that comes out of the KORG especially the drum patterns are terrific.. very easy to mix down and get em into my computer program. It use to be difficult to bring up the drums as the sound through my monitor speakers because of clipping.. no clipping now.. I have dialed in the 10 knobs and its like Pink Floyd sounding (drums) the voices are sweeter and that's a bonus.. sometimes I bypass one channel and tube the other and adjust the volume-pan on the DP 32 s and that's great also The VLA's are built like the proverbial tank.. The base sounds great but I give the nod to the PreSonus. It really is great to have the bass does not hog the spectrum of frequencies and mush up the kick pedal. The PreSonus has 16 knobs and twelve push buttons .. phantom tube gain Tube Drive compression and eq. These features are not just ornamental they actually make for big changes and they are incremental which I like. The VlA's are not, just a tight clean sweep. Also the VLA's have no phantom power as the STUDIO CHANNEL does. I bought a ROLLS external phantom for 50 bucks. doesn't add any noise and does the job.. of course your adding extra cable in but it is what it is. Should be obvious to ART that a phantom is necessary I have other non tube compressors which do a good job but having tubes you can really tell the different in the mix down.. All instruments stay isolated and you get good imagery in the final production.. I am partial to the VLA's but the PreSonus has more variables to work with and as I said the bass is great thru it. Seems like it was made for bass. Now that I confused you, for the money they both are really good.. I don't have alot of bux so I will be eating plenty of cheap soup for sometime because of these purchases. These are two very good units. If you need help with your bass or vocals I would choose the Presonus. For that matter drums sound good thru the PreSonus but its only one channel, however you can really fine tune whatever you input. where as with the VLA's you would fine tune post production. Overall these units have been a game changer for me.. very inspirational for studio work.. Live.. I don't have any idea. I have visited studio's with much higher end gear, mostly PreSonus but honestly, with my DP-32, the compressors a ZOOM G3 guitar possessor and a few other goodies I would not be embarrassed t at all to compare sonics . I'm sure the nod would go to the mega studios, I'm not that naive but I think diminishing returns would fit the high ends. Finally, once again I say I am very happy with ZZOUNDS. We own a studio writing/recording for major film, games, and TV. We researched the reviews on this product before purchasing and since purchasing it, we are happy with our choice. We recently started producing a new show where we have multiple simultaneous interacting voices. We had to add in one more mic and it's associated gear for the show. We needed to match the "hard-to-reproduce" tube tonal quality and compression signature of a vintage Presonus mic preamp from the 90's so the voices sounded consistent. This vintage unit has warmth and clarity hard to find today except in tube vocal processors over $4k. This unit actually exceeds our expectations. Warm consistent sound with good control. After installation we went to immediate recording time and matched the sound of the vintage unit in seconds. Wish it had a desser but that can be applied in pre via DAW. Sound is clean and consistent. Worth three times what we paid for it versus the benefit we have from it in the studio.Kevin Village-Stone
Overall: I use this thing mainly for bringing down transients when recording. I like running heavy vocals through this tube. My only problem is that the Light went out on the VU and I cannot get ahold of PreSonus to get it fixed! The number they have says the call cant be completed. I've only had it for about 2 years. Things should not start failing yet. Altho at the price, I guess you get what you pay for.

I own a lot of great pres. This is probably my favorite on vocals. It’s definitely a colored pre and not great for stacking but there’s a great vintage vibe with this piece. Also great on bass and electric and acoustic guitars. If you want to have some fun experiment with different tubes. Pair it with a 414 or a u87 and forget it.Steve
I bought one of these used for five hundred bucks. I already own a Pendulum Audio SPS-1 preamp, which, though amazingly clear, can sometimes sound a little too clinical and almost brittle for lead vocals and instruments. I have to admit, I wasn't crazy about the tone of the Solo 610 at first — it was noisy, distorted easily, and broke up when pushing the input stage too hard — but the unit was already five years old, so I thought it might be time to change the tubes. I replaced the stock JJ's with a pair of Genalex Gold Lions — a $90 upgrade. I was expecting a subtle improvement at best. Oh my god! The difference was incredible! Silky smooth with tight bass and punchy mids. The background hiss completely disappeared. Now, I'm in love with this preamp. Whereas my SPS-1 can be a little sibilant and lacking "meat" for lead parts, the Solo 610 makes vocals "pop" in a way that no transformer-based preamp could do. (Bear in mind the SPS-1 has two channels but also costs more than twice as much!) The controls are easy to figure out — drive the input stage for desired color and adjust the output stage to suit. Works great as a direct box too. I would caution users not to overdo it with the Solo 610, however, since driving it too hard can add a complexity to tracks that makes them hard to mix. If you have another more neutral preamp, save the Solo 610 for lead parts. A highly recommended upgrade for any home or semi-pro studio, especially if you swap out the tubes.
So, I was on the fence about buying one these because I'd never actually owned a quality standalone preamp before and I thought the preamps on my apollo twin were already pretty good (which of course they are), but after reading through the reviews for this beast extolling it's sound I thought I'd take a chance. Man oh man am I glad that I did. Everything sounds so warm, smooth, and detailed now that I barely have to EQ my vocals. The noise floor is incredibly low and contrary to a few reviews I've read, I get plenty of headroom to work with. I really couldn't be happier with this purchase, so if you find yourself in a similar situation to where I was, I suggest just going for it.Michael
