I really like these strings. They are warm, and give what I believe to be the best tone on my Stratocaster's and Telecaster. I don't really remember when I first started using Pure Nickel strings (of any brand), but I DO know I have never used anything but Pure Nickel since. The strings got a 4 star rating. I purposely omitted 1 star because, I feel they don't last as long as say a Nickel wound D'Addario would…but then again, I have not found a Pure Nickel D'Addario set of strings. So I forfeit the longevity for the tone. I DID just today order some Fender 150M (medium gauge 11's)…which are also Pure Nickel. I would never order 10 sets of strings if I didn't like them. For years I've played flatwound strings, but when I bought my new Fender American Professional Jaguar I was taken by how lively and expressive the strings were! I left them on. There was a learning curve, with me having to learn a lighter touch, but the more I played them the more I liked them, I went on the Fender website, clicked on the "Chat with us" button, and asked what set came on the Jaguar. BUY THESE ! I hadn't used Fender strings for 30 years . A friend of mine bought out a music store so to liquidate he sold me all the strings and drum sticks in stock .. there were mostly Fender strings so I started using them . 20 packs of 9's lasted me well over a year . I work at least 3 night a week as a lead guitarists / vocalist . so I use my main Strat a lot . after I ran out of Fender's I used GHS and noticed I was breaking strings .. so I tried the Ernie Ball's .. breaking strings again ! I used Fender strings a long time ago and they always performed well. I made the change to super slinkys many moons ago but decided to go back to 350L when I changed over to my Nighthawk. The slinkys seemed a little dull, maybe it has something to do with the Nighthawk having a Fender scale length. Great move! Everything is much brighter and present with no sacrifice on bottom definition. I play every day and liked the longevity of the super slinkys so we will have to see how the Fenders compare. I've been using black beauties for years now. Originally bought them for the look they gave me on my black Tele. They really lasted a long time. And they produced good tone on the instrument. Of course some the coating wore off at the picking area after a few hours of use. Everyone expects that. But you could only tell if you get real close. the fingerboard area stays coated real well. And keeps that slick feel. I don't notice any sound degradation, and the intonation remains constant. And hey Kids, a black majic marker fixes the chipped coating! Just kidding ! Overall: I'm really not that tough to please but these strings are a disappointment to me. I do like the black color, BUT – and I kid you not! – within ONE minute of playing the black was already coming off my high E string and I was playing with my fingers, not a pick! I saw what looked like a piece of fuzz on the string so I started wiping it off, only to realize it's the black color coming off further and further. Within five minutes I had about an inch and a half of bare string showing. It comes off so easy it seems lit it's just spray paint. I understand it won't last forever, but one minute?? Come on. The other thing I don't like about these strings is they have an uneven plastic type feel to them. It's not horrible, but they don't feel like "regular" strings. Other than that they sound OK, nothing special, so I'm definitely not buying these again.Tim
These look awesome and have a very smooth nylon feel. They don't sound bad at all. Maybe a little different I'm sure. They will shed the coating eventually, especially if u use a custom plectrum/pick made of metal or some other highly dense material. Metal will remove the coating immediately! The coating may also slow down the corrosion process. They are holding up good so far. I like these strings. I have a set of white strings somewhere. Those seem hard to find.jcfvintage

I've been playing/collecting new and vintage guitars for 26 years, and regularly try new strings. I noticed that if these strings contact the bridge when re-stringing, the color will chip off immediately. Secondly, they feel like dull plastic. This feels like your fingers are dragging, and seems "cheap". Thirdly, I had to adjust all the pickup heights on the low-E, as the heavier strings sound completely dull and lifeless. I also received a damaged string, and contacted DR customer service. I haven't even received a response in two weeks, which demonstrates how unimportant we are. In this day and age, where online retail is more important then ever, this is unacceptable. This is NOT a reflection on Guitar Center, which always takes good care of me. I decided to pick up guitar after a 15 year break and found Rocksmith to be a pretty useful tool. I put these on my guitar to help with getting familiar with the fretboard and neck. Because it's been awhile. The first couple of days, the strings sounded great with no issues, but a couple of weeks in, some of the strings sound muted a little bit and are just not as crisp as non-coated strings. i'll probably take these off sooner than later. I've used many strings over the yrs as most guitarists do. But I always go back to Ernie Ball. They are just simply the best quality and tone wise. I'm mad it took me so long to try these though. I love the slightly heavier bottom while still having the mid gauge on the highs that you normally get from the regular slinky set. They work great for standard tuning but work even better if you tune a half step down (my main tuning). Don't hesitate and get your pack or packs today. You won't be disappointed.Vince, T
Tried this string more for helping out with a slight string buzz on the low E. Thought a heavier low E would help out, which it did. That said, awesome sounds for thumping rhythm playing while leaving a standard 10s on the high end for note bending. Great balance when comparing 9-46 hybrid sets, which seemed more out of whack for me. Can't say yet for longevity but assume similar for Regular Slinky which benefit from a string cleaning after each use.Axel

Love these strings. Clean, bright, ringing tone and easy to bend. I like the Hybrid gauge for the lighter top end, but sometimes 9's tend to unravel at the ball. The end wrap eliminates this problem, and I haven't lost one since switching to the RPS type. I use these mainly for blues. On a short scale guitar, like an SG or a 335, (I use them on a custom, 24.75", short scale Strat and a '64 Hagstrom H2 with a 24.375" scale), I suggest replacing the 16p "G" string with an Ernie Ball 18w. The heavier gauge wound string compensates for the lower tension of the short scale, and makes for a fuller mid range. If they made this set with a wound "G", it would be perfect. IMHO.Steve
if you have a stop tail peice style guitar and need strings that eliminate the slipping around the ball end, these are the ones. Great strings, overall good tone, stays in tune well. I was having tuning issues with a les paul. Not anymore, these strings eliminate string slipping at the ball end. They stay in tune better than any strings I have used on the guitar. That adds to the overal sound of the strings, which is as good as any other stings out there. excellent no issues at all. these are not overpriced, but somewhat more expensive than the bargin sets. They are worth the extra buck or two a set.
If I had to use one set of strings, I would go with this one. Besides being incredibly reliable and consistent (no disparity between packs) these strings have served well under different weather conditions and on long hauls. I always keep these in reserve when going on the road as the gauges in the pack can work as substitutes for other strings and brands. Meaning, you can mix and match should you break a string on a guitar that's tuned to D. I've always had loyalty to the brand, though I do use a variety of strings for the other instruments I play. The strings make a good pair with the (IMO) amazing Ernie Ball Music Man guitars.Boyan P.

These Strings are an improvement over the already awesome Cobalt strings. I've been playing guitar for 14 years, and haven't ever found a string that gave me the tone that these give me. They feel different than Nickel strings, but there's something addicting about these. Acoustically they even sound louder. Really impressed, and will probably play these and the Cobalt strings on all of my main axes.
Overall: I put these on my Strat 4 hours ago and without hesitation I can say that these are 5 star strings. There is definitely more sustain and volume and I really like the feel. Strange “grey” winding actually matches my brushed nickel hardware. Quite an inexpensive way to make my amazing Jeff Beck Strat even better. Paid over 10 put all strings on not overwound and then wiped finger marks from guitar and b string 0.13 gauge just broke for no reason??. So dissatisfied and disappointed had to fit a cheaper 0.11 gauge which are for nines not the tens I purchased. Wont buy again just wasted 10 plus now have ten strings mixed with a nine b string. Overall: Tried these out on a Gretsch Pro Jet and the combination was a game changer for me. Took a minute to get used to the feeling, but now I won’t play anything else on that guitar. Rich, warm tone with a fair amount of sparkle. Especially good for jazz chording and rhythm playing. The price is made up for in longevity. These strings sound great after weeks of heavy use.
D'adddario are quality strings.I have used TI in the past. and DR flatwound. The TI swing 12's were great sounding but expensive. The DR flatwound 11's were good also . I prefer the gauge on the Dr 11's. Recently I went back to the Daddario chromes. To get the guage I wanted I purchased Chromes 10's, replaced the 1'st string with an 11 and the 3rd with a 22.(Equivalent to the DR 11's) At this time they sound great. Quality sounding strings and the price is not bad compared to TI and DR. I have also used the Chromes 11's, but have found the gauges in this pack to be a little heavier than what I was used to. I'll probably stick to Chromes 10 and replace the first with an 11 and third with a 22, As far as tone the Chromes are brighter than the DR. The first electric guitars I ever got up close and personal with were owned by Country-Western groups and Popular Music bands. As I recall all of their guitars had flatwounds on them… When I finally decided that Rock Music and the guitar was for me it was 1965. Most everything was round wound then for a more wild raucous sound… cheaper too…. flatwounds were out of fashion. Well here it is all these years later and D'Addario still make flatwounds. I began a renewed interest in learning some of the older sounds I heard as a kid, so decided to try these on a Stratocaster. D'Addario is a great string and I am looking forward to the experience… my only complaint is that Musicians Friend does not carry the Ultra light set in 9 gauge which I would prefer on the Strat. Definitely the best strings at the price point lately. They have a thinner or smoother wind than Ernie Ball slinkys or Daddarrio exl and this results in less finger noise and a zingier tone IMO. I'm into clean and classic rock, and I doubt you would like these over the former two names if you were into more modern and metal sounds. It depends on the guitar for me, on my strat I could use just about any strings. My guitars with humbuckers seem more picky, at least to my ears. I prefer these over the other two as far as cheap strings go, and these are often cheaper. Win win. Used to be I would never have preferred Fender strings so either my tastes are changing or these strings have changed over the years.Joelish
Overall: Don't pay any attention to the low price these are great strings. Have used Fender 7250's on all kinds of bass guitars they always sound great and feel good. According to a Fender rep, these are what came on the Fender PJ bass I ordered from Musician's Friend. They produce the classic Fender tone I wanted. I eventually replaced them with a set of Fender 7250L (.040, .060, .080, .100) to make it easier to play on the guitar's 9.5" fingerboard radius. I stayed with Fender because of the tone that the 7250M strings produce. The Light's have slightly less oomph on the low end, yet all the tone while the lighter gauge makes for nice melodic work on the high end of things. Hey you music hounds out there! Give Guitar Center a shot at setting you up with some gear! I also asked if they traded used pedals towards a new pedal and, yes I walked out with a new distortion pedal!! Strings are the lowest around town and in stock. These 3250 nickel plated steel wound fender strings really sound good with the bullet ends (more surface touching the tremolo) and steel is stronger and less likely to break on a large bend and the sound is a little stronger on the pickup I've been playing 30 plus years and tried many string types and this is what I buy!!! I like regular gauge .10-.46 but the choice is yours =JamMan= play till I drop……
The reason I tried these strings (3150R) was because i bought a Telecaster (Baja) in 2007. I read about fret wear being less because it matches the alloy in the frets of new Fender guitars, in comparison to steel strings. Therefore there is the hope it offers less wear and tear on the frets. I had also had problems with the Telecaster 'icepick' sound on the bridge pickup. These strings softened the icepick sound I was getting with steel strings. They last for up to 4-6 months. I think the Tele and nickel string combo is a winner for me. My attitude towards Fender strings changed after this, so I tried the bullets on my Strats. Guess what they were even better with tremelo dives and resistance to detuning. But I thought the pure nickel really affected the sound I got. I like the biting sound from steel strings (GHS Boomers, 10-46) on both a 1970 Stratocaster and a Lace sensor stock equipped 1990 Strat Ultra, so I choose the nickel-plated (3250R) steel strings. Pure joy of sound from both. I had to get a refret on the '70 Strat in 2010, so it was a good move to use these strings to avoid fret wear.

Better than expected. Solid tone. Easy to play. Just right. Not too bright, just clean and tight, as a well made set should sound. Lows still great, even at the slightly lighter gauge. Don't get me wrong, they can get plenty bright if you want that. Just that they didn't seem as extra bright as some kinds try to be because they can with all the "super nano ultra special coated infused …but still hand crafted somehow" type stuff. Was never happy with previous sets on my 5 string. With these, I was able to set up with slightly lower action. This alone is worth it on my instrument. Finally, it's the bass it should've always been. Waited way too long to find these. I hope they keep making them. Probably going to order a few extra sets and try to keep a few on hand. Been using the 8250-5M set for awhile. Wanted to try a lighter gauge. I get more guitar tones out of these. I was concerned I might overpower them since I'd used medium gauge for a couple of years. These are literally perfect on my Modern Player Jazz Bass V and 2 1993 Jazz Plus Vs. I bought the Modern Player new from Musiciansfriend. I think this light set is the set that it had on it. I use a pick, single and double thumb as well as two finger picking techniques. The E and B strings give a nice low end. The A, D and G strings have a growl and bright tone and respond well to picking or plucking. I'll be using these strings for some timegeorgesguitars

I really like these strings. They are warm, and give what I believe to be the best tone on my Stratocaster's and Telecaster. I don't really remember when I first started using Pure Nickel strings (of any brand), but I DO know I have never used anything but Pure Nickel since. The strings got a 4 star rating. I purposely omitted 1 star because, I feel they don't last as long as say a Nickel wound D'Addario would…but then again, I have not found a Pure Nickel D'Addario set of strings. So I forfeit the longevity for the tone. I DID just today order some Fender 150M (medium gauge 11's)…which are also Pure Nickel. I would never order 10 sets of strings if I didn't like them. For years I've played flatwound strings, but when I bought my new Fender American Professional Jaguar I was taken by how lively and expressive the strings were! I left them on. There was a learning curve, with me having to learn a lighter touch, but the more I played them the more I liked them, I went on the Fender website, clicked on the "Chat with us" button, and asked what set came on the Jaguar. BUY THESE ! I hadn't used Fender strings for 30 years . A friend of mine bought out a music store so to liquidate he sold me all the strings and drum sticks in stock .. there were mostly Fender strings so I started using them . 20 packs of 9's lasted me well over a year . I work at least 3 night a week as a lead guitarists / vocalist . so I use my main Strat a lot . after I ran out of Fender's I used GHS and noticed I was breaking strings .. so I tried the Ernie Ball's .. breaking strings again ! I went to a local music store and bought a pack of Fender's . as an experiment I wasted to see how long before one would break . SIX WEEKS ! .. THEY LASTED 6 WEEKS ! .. I build guitars and buy these for setups period. I have tried to use these on one occasion just for kicks but found the tension all wrong. Not so much on the wound strings as the unwound upper strings. I found the tension and feel really poor. They seemed to be ridiculous to bend and if you managed that they felt like they were about ready to snap. I did not like the brittle tone either. The feel of these is just all wrong but they are cheap and fine to use for building but my guitars would never go out with these!Thump54
Musicians Gear strings are perfect for any player. If you get your strings for free because of an endorsement deal, you can claim a better value. I don't have that option = I pay for my strings. I change strings about once a month, sometimes more often, because NOTHING sounds as good as a new set of strings. But I can't afford big coins to keep fresh strings on them. These MGs are very affordable, they sound great, they play well, they are consistent, and I am very happy when I play with new strings. The bullet ends on these strings really do seem to increase the tone and sustain quality compared to the ball end strings that I was using. Upon first glance it is easy to simply think that it is only about the bullet ends fitting better into the tremelo cavity than the ball ends. However, there is more to it than that. You see, these strings are designed to be a custom fit into the strat tremelo block which eliminates string slippage and tuning instabilities. Also, the strings have more mass and surface area contact with the bridge. In terms of physics this makes perfect sense and you can hear the difference if you have an ear for tone. It is the formula for the perfect strings for a strat. I do know this, I won't use any other strings in my strat because the way they feel and sound is absolutely perfect.texas

After trying a few different brands and gauges of strings over a five year period I have finally found the perfect brand/set of strings for playing in C# and drop-B tunings. I started out playing Ernie Ball sets on a 25.5 scale guitar in standard tuning but when I began experimenting with down-tuning I found the EB sets to be lacking in tone and definition the lower I tuned my guitar not to mention constantly breaking my low E string. When I switched to playing a 24 3/4 scale guitar in C# and drop-B I had to start looking for a new set of strings because the EB "not even slinky" sets I had been using just were not cutting it. I tried Dean Markley Blue Steel .13's with a wound 3rd string and found the top strings to be cumbersome and the low .56 still not heavy enough for dropping the low E to B. I went to every single music shop in town looking for a light top/extremely heavy bottom set and I finally ran across the GHS .10 – .60 set on sale, two for the price of one. Perfect! These strings last forever. If you use some GHS Fast Fret on them they keep their tone better than any other brand of string I've tried and I have yet to break a string in the year or so I've been using the GHS .10-.60 sets. The tone is fantastic and they sound great on a mahogony/maple body guitar with EMG pickups. It does take some getting used to the difference in string gauge between the low and high strings but it didn't take me long to learn to adjust my pick attack for the lighter strings on the top end. If you know how to set up your guitar for heavy gauge strings get 'em and go to town! If not I would highly recommend you take your guitar to a guitar/music shop and have it set up by a pro. Oh, for you kids out there: these strings are NOT meant for standard tuning and they will not make you sound like Zakk Wylde but they might make you a better guitarist if used as intended. touring in the 80s I used GHS boomers GBCL, I stopped playing in the 90s and somehow ended up using EB hybrid slinkys. I found an old pack of boomers in a guitar case compartment i hadnt opened since 93. Somehow they were still fresh and strung up one of my guitars from the 80s. Wow, the wound strings EAD (or C# G# C# my tuning) are definitely Louder and breakthrough more than the wound EBs… (the plain steel sounded identical). There are soooooooo many fake garbage and laughable opinions on guitar products these days on the tube that I decided to do my own experiment to confirm what I was hearing. I proceeded to purchase 26 packs of these GHS boomers GBCL (which are the wound strings from a 10s set and the plain strings from a 9s set). Using 2 identical guitars (even color), Logic X via a PreSonus FireStudio input, dunlop red acrylic 1.5mm pick and as consistent as possible pick of each strings. The only difference was that each guitar had a new set of strings, one got GHS boomers GBCL and the other ErnieBall HyBrid Slinkys. I averaged the 12 picks of each string by merging the 12 waveforms into a single track for each guitar for each string, the wound strings of the GHS boomers were clearly louder, rang longer by at least 7.2, 5.9, 4.6 seconds respectively (tuned toC#, G#, C#). the Plain Steel string waveforms were virtually Identical between the sets though. If you arent sure what this tuning is, its simply DropD half a step down (aka dropC#). Plugged into a Dual Rectifier, Laney and a Vetta, on a high gain channel you get this Extra Gain that breaks through, so needless to say ill be back to using GHS boomers GBCLs on all my guitars!!!thundercab
