Best Guitar Isolation Cabinet (2024 Update)

Overall: What can I say, this thing saved my guitar tone. I can crack my all tube output and capture 100 percent tone now. Before I was always worried about not only that but im recording in a townhouse there is nowhere in my place i could isolate the amp even if it wouldn't bother gf or neighbors. This thing is awesome i bought a 4 dollar goose neck for the mic inside threw in a shure sm57 and just listen through my monitors or headphone, Finally i've got the perfect tone always waiting for me. I run the sm57 into a chandler tg2 and into the computer, the front end is a digitech 2101 into a bogner line 6 spider amp. awesomeness !! Ive heard people say these are to boxy sounding and I don't agree, with an eq handy and some good pres and guitar effects your set to go it sounds awesome.Nathen

Picked one up to do recording. Sounds great. Reduces volume so I don't drive the neighbors crazy. Yes the hinges rattle but that does not effect the recording sound so far. May I will try some duct tape. The mic holder is pretty much stationary. But it just a straight mic stand section. So you could use any mic stand accessories. I added 5 – 12" x 12" acoustic foam squares under the speaker to tighten up the sound a bit. It has rubber feet on the bottom so no vibration into floor and it does not scoot around. I am pleased with my purchase. I bought this as a scratch and dent The hinge screws stripped out. I replaced them with larger diameter 3/4" long scre s and they are very sturdy now. I recorded with this in my hallway, and I was using my monitors. No sound from monitor bled into recording. And I cranked the amp pretty loud, but the volume was nowhere near annoying with the lid closed. I recommend this iso cab. 30w vintage delection.Spoiled dog studios

Sound: I’m very happy with the sound quality. It may not sound identical to the original speakers modeled but honestly I don’t have that good of an ear to know the difference. I do know my high gain and crunch patches with the Vintage or Green sound just like I want, and for clean-ish tones the Essex with a Vox amp does the job quite nicely. Whether it has the mythical “amp in the room” sound or not is going to be up to each user’s own ears. I will say it sounds more organic and amp-like than any FRFR I’ve used and leave it at that. Features: This has so many features it’s hard to list what I find most useful. Physical features like being fairly lightweight and having tiltback legs are certainly helpful to an old guy like me. The tiltback seems extreme but it works well and I don’t feel the need for an amp stand. MIDI or L6 link to remotely change cabinets with each patch is great, and with the L6 link it can easily be done within each patch. I also like that the L6 link runs audio and data. Why use 2 cables when you can to it all with one? The ability to use it as a standard FRFR to run IR is another cool feature and I like that if I need to I can go direct to FOH via through the PC+ and use a separate IR to FOH and speaker modeling in the cab. Lastly, this can be used with any modeler. You can send MIDI messages via standard 5 pin MIDI cable to change speakers and IR within patches from just about any modeling product. If something ever trumps the Helix, I’ll still have a great cab to pair it with. Ease of Use: It’s incredibly easy to get good sounds. Turn the knob on the top until you get a speaker you like. The speaker modeling sounds great. I’ve dabbled with some of the IR’s and they sound great too. Some folks have complained that it doesn’t have enough volume but that’s not been the case with me. You will need to make sure the output levels on your modeler are properly set to get the most volume and avoid clipping. If you aren’t familiar with how to do this, I would suggest checking out YouTube videos by Jason Sadites or Steve Sterlacci on how to properly set patch levels. It’s super easy and mostly common sense, but something a lot of folks overlook. And don’t forget to include your solo boosts when setting levels!! Quality: By all appearances it seems very well built and sturdy and has a quality feel. I know there are people using these on the road and that also says a lot about the build quality. It’s been tossed in and out of my trunk a few times now with minimal wear and tear showing. It would be nice if it was made of birch and covered with Tolex, but that would only add to the cost and weight. As it is the box is solid. Value: At first glance $799 seems expensive for a 1×12 cab. However, when you consider what it can do that others can’t and then compare it to other 1×12 FRFR that are $1,000 and up it starts becoming a better and better value. If you don’t need MIDI or remote speaker switching, then there’s also the standard Powercab that’s a couple hundred less. Sounds the same just not as many features. Manufacturer Support: Over the years I’ve purchased quite a bit of Line6 gear and they have always provided me with great support. They have a very good user forum with plenty of knowledgeable and helpful people and Line6 also has reps in some of the larger gear forums. Line6 has a good history of product updates as well. The PC+ has already received an update with some additional features and I expect they will continue to update as needed. They seem to do a pretty good job of listening to their customers when it comes to requesting features etc. The Wow Factor: Speaker modeling, FRFR, and IR all in one cab that sounds really good. That’s pretty wow to me! I think this will appeal to players like myself who use modeling and are looking for the best sound without a lot of fussing, or just plain don’t like the sound of an FRFR as much as a normal amp and cab. Overall: I just went back to Helix after using Mesa MKV and Friedman JJ amps. The band doesn’t play a lot of gigs that require miking up the guitars or using direct FOH, so the speaker I chose had to sound great on its own and not just something to monitor myself with. The last time I went down the FRFR road it didn’t work out very well. I know it’s not the boxes it’s me, but regardless I got tired of constantly trying to find the right IR or thinking I found one that sounded good at home only to have it sound like crap at band volume yada yada. When I was researching speakers for the Helix I heard a lot of great things about the Powercab so I thought I’d give it a shot. The speaker modeling is somewhat unique, and I thought it might be the shorter path to better tone for me. It arrived 2 days after I ordered and the set up was very easy. I had already decided to use L6 link instead of XLR because I wanted to remotely control the cab via the Helix and not have to set up MIDI. Everything I expected from Line 6. This Power Cab Plus 112 is blowing my mind right now. I usually never go with solid state amps. I've been playing through Fender Deluxe Reverbs, Hot Rod Deluxe' and my latest Fender Princeton Reverb. These are for sure amazing go to amps. However, to my ears, with the HELIX LT that I play through, I'm getting similar tones and even more using the built-in speaker models that come with stock with the Power Cab Plus 112. I've never had this much versatility in a rig before. I love it. I also use the genuine Line 6 L6 Link cable (witch is just a good quality AES/EBU cable) connected between my HELIX LT and the Power Cab Plus 112 so that I can change speaker models on the fly with my presets. I really can't ask for more. Simple, light weight, professional sounding tones, all at my toe tips. This is good times for sure.FELIX

I had high hopes, when I saw that Line 6 was offering powered speaker cabs, I thought wow ! Like the Tech 21 Power Engine but better !!!! Wrong… I sold my pair of Tech 21 Power Engines when I purchased a pair of these cabs… wrong move. I unpacked the Power Cabs and thought .. BEAUTIFUL !!! Sturdy, stylish… when I plugged in my HELIX…. I literally could not get a usable sound out of it, I fiddled for hours. After a few days of fiddling with new presets I was able to get a decent basic sound so I thought I was golden. I took it out for on gig doing a outdoor surf meet event… OUCH ! Fizzy, treble ridden, buzz saw city. I could not even get a decent volume from it, the tone because it was so "HIFI" was so buried in the mix I could barely hear myself. Besides the lack of volume, I could not believe the absolute atrocious tone I was getting(think BUZZSAW). This is not a good match for a helix or any floor processors or modelers. I regret getting rid of my Tech 21's they were a tad noisy but they sounded 100% better than these. I keep hearing and seeing the reviews for the Plus version, but seems odd that for something that is supposed to simply amplify the sound you get from your Helix would do such a poor job. WIth the covers and the shipping I paid mucho dinero so saying I am unhappy is an understatement. I've been told with tweaking you can get the cab to sound good, I've spent hours doing this. I don't think its possible. Avoid this… I have been using my cabs as vocal monitors, just because I would get smashed if I tried to sell them. I've used this for one gig, maybe 6 times at rehearsal, sadly they are horrible, giving it 2 stars is quite generous….Guitar Kahuna

I'm running this with my 5153 lbx head and it sounds great. Can only compare to my peavey 1×12 with a greenback…the cab speakers seem to have less bass response but it was easy to bring that up. Overall, I would recommend to anyone looking for a great budget cab!Aaron C

Some genius at Line 6 decided to knock 6 cents off the cost to build this otherwise very nicely built cab by using cheesey nuts on the speaker mounts THEN using red loctite on them so you can never change out the speakers without stripping the mounts.Ruairi

I have one of these and the thing is tough that's for sure. I've had this particular one for about 6 yrs or so and Its been all over the place. You can really dial in some great tones with it. The classic line 6 tones are top notch in these pre-usb era models, true grit , smooth, and triply if you're into the acid rock type. Plus if you like earlier Metal this was the amp most young musicians were playing in the late 90's. I kind of prefer it over a lot of other amps strung about that may be because I am familiar with it though I think its because it reminds me of that time era and the sound is comforting . Really, I guess it depends on what you are using it for. Its quick and versatile. But… It is what it is and it will never be a Marshal JCM or one of the Fender Classics there is no substitute for them and they're not trying to be, but its a great intermediate-pro model and for $100 you cant beat these second edition Spiders. Overall: Overall: These speakers are an amazing value! They sounds just as good as any other FRFR speakers I've seen, and at the price, they're an absolute no-brainer. Designed for guitar multi-fx, but literally everything I've thrown at them sounds incredible. I've got two, and I run them in my backyard to play music. They are very loud, and have no problem filling a large space with sound.Features: They're a speaker in a box. Not a ton of features to be expected, although there are 2 volume-controllable XLR-1/4'' inputs, which is pretty nice. They've also got an output for daisy-chaining, but I have them running stereo, so I have no need for this.Quality: Pretty decent, especially for the price! The plastic casing seems sturdy enough to trust at gigs, although I haven't had the chance to yet. The metal grill is sturdy aswell, and has yet to dent, even after I've gotten my hands on a pair.Manufacturer Support: I've never had to contact the Manufacturer.Sound: Amazing! For a $300 speaker, these things really sound incredible. The day I got them, I literally sat there listening to my guitar's reverb tail off for what seemed like forever. Very low noise speakers, even at higher volumes.Ease of Use: They're a speaker. I'm confident you can figure them out. Value: These speakers are one of the best value FRFR speakers I've ever seen. Overall: I shopped for months comparing the Alto, Headrush, EV, and several other options. I actually purchased the Line 6 cabinet and was tremendously disappointed in it's output and tone. I tried a headrush 112 and absolutely loved it. People will say its really bassy but I prefer it, here's why. In the age of the new modelers taking over, some of us are still used to hearing that "amp like" air moving behind us and the headrush 12 makes me feel like there's still an amp on stage with me. Tip: if you have an issue with the bass, clean up your presets a tad: there are several ways to mitigate it (low cut on the amp models, low cut in the eq chain, low cut block in the chain, low cut on effects, and so on). Some will even say that adding low cut will screw your front-of-house sound, but thats not true either for the Helix, you just need to split your signal paths so that you can enjoy the speaker as a monitor and let the sound tech also do his job. I have used it all weekend as a monitor and also as my main stage amp, PLENTY of power. Im going to buy another just to run a stereo setup. Couldnt be happier. I do wish they made a speaker cover for it though.Johnathan

( DISCLAIMER) Let me start off by saying that maybe it was just my unit that I had, or that I possibly never figured out how to dial the modeler I was using properly. Everyone is different and perhaps the settings I was using was not correct for the cabinet's character. But that being said, I found this cabinet to be a total let down. I bought one of these to go with my Kemper because I wanted a budget friendly solution and I had heard great things about this unit over the web. I kept the Headrush for about 2 weeks before returning it. I never once got a usable sound out of it. It's built really well, and I like what they were going for, but the unit just sounds bad in my opinion. It's Way too bassy, all the clean sounds sound like they have a towel over the speaker, or it has a cold, and there's no way to get rid of it either by using the contour feature or through adjusting EQs through the modeler. The high gain sounds were the worst. It really lacked any real definition and it was hard to tell the difference between a 5150 profile, and a Plexi. IT also has a weird shrill sound out of it at louder gain volumes which was odd. The last thing that killed it for me was that it had an annoying hiss sound, which could of just been my unit but it was super unpleasant. To conclude. I can't recommend this unit out there to anyone. It's not a terrible unit, but I just feel like there are better options out there. IF you are on a really tight budget and can't afford anything else, its okay, but I would recommend getting the 108 model of this. It's a little smaller, but it has the same sound quality, plenty loud, it's cheaper, and I feel like that would be a better purchase. That way you wont be spending an extra $100 on this to see if you like it or not. If you can save up a little more cash I would HIGHLY!! recommend the Laney LFR 112 Powered Cab. It's a much better cabinet, and is in that same more budget friendly price range, and just sounds fantastic!ToneMage

Overall: Loaded with V30's. Which I know normally run a lot of the high end. Does seem like this pushes it pretty far though. Didn't give me exactly the sound I was going for but it was close. There's a little too much crispness for my taste but that could also be coming from my 5150 as well.All in all it's a great speaker and the vintage look is dope.Joshua

Way lighter than the Ibanez and Marshall 4×12's I used to own back in the day. I use this with a rack power amp and a multi FX pedal from Zoom. Sounds nothing shy of amazing. Originally purchased while living in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, back in 2011. Currently living in Tacoma, Washington. Still using this cab. Still loving it. Amazing clarity, and phenomenal bass definition without getting muddy, even in super low tunings and on 7 string guitars, including with sub-optimal string gauge for said tunings. On a side note, a friend of mine still living in FL uses this same cab after I recommended it to him, and he has a Peavey 6505+, all tube head, and he said his $200USD mexican strat played through that setup with this cab at home sounds better than some fancy Jackson with Seymour Duncans he used to test the amp in store (Guitar Center) with the matching cab from Peavey, and an audio engineer mutual friend has confirmed this. Paired this with a Hughes & Kettner TM-18 also purchased from AMS. The Celestion V-30 speaker is something I’ve used before and is an awesome speaker for a variety of tones. PRS just makes gear right. The cab is built solid. Cleans are absolutely pure and as you break up the signal the cab projects crisp. It maintains this integrity as you get to “11”. Very impressed but not surprised as it is PRS.Brad E

Considering the reasonable price, I decided to try this cab. I've been playing for about 40 years, but I don't have a lot of experience experimenting with different speakers and cabs. I had been told by many other guitarists not to bother with the new Celestion V-type because it is made in China, yet I just couldn't resist the price. I must say, I'm pleasantly surprised with this cab. I play mostly clean, and sometimes a little overdrive, but never distortion. The cab does sound evenly balanced across the frequency spectrum. For my taste and style, I prefer a bit more scoop in the low mids, and occasionally, the bottom end in this cab is a bit too soft for me, but that could be due to the depth of the cab and not the speakers themselves. I can't speak for how this cab would do with heavy metal or even classic rock, but there are certainly no frequencies that seem to jump out and make the cab sound notched. Also, I like the clarity of the mids. Luckily, I didn't get any mud from this cab, just a nice, smooth balance.sparrow

This cabinet is too small for JVM 205H. I bought because I saw the indentions in the cabinet for the legs of the amp head in the picture. Beware these indentions are not in this cabinet. If you just need an ext. cab. and don't care about size then this cab. would work well.Just a player

I bought this cabinet with the intention of beefing up my Hot Rod deluxe which it did. The combination of closed back from this cabinet and the open back of the deluxe resulted in a much more richer sound not to mention that at 4 ohms with the cabinet the amp seems to be more responsive to my playing. It also looks cool sitting under the Hot Rod Deluxe III. It not only sounds great with the Hot Rod but with my 30 watt PRS amp head, a Quilter 200 and boy was I surprised when I plugged in my Mesa Mark IV. Awesome little cabinet for the money. This was bought to add an extension cabinet to my mesa boogie nomad 100. My nomad was a single 12 speaker with an open back cab and needed a little more bass. the sealed fender cabinet was the exact same dimensions and fits nicely under the boogie. Sound was as I expected, bass increase as well as a tight sound from the closed back cabinet. Also raised the nomad to a better overall height. Very happy with my purchase. I did not give it 5 stars for several reasons. 1) made in Mexico which I expected for the price but that is the problem! Speaker jack fell out of the back of the cabinet when I removed the cable. Compared to yesteryear and I have owned a lot of fender equipment construction was much better. To repair the speaker jack and not go through returning the cabinet I opened the back to see what holds the jack in place. Half the screws used to seal the back of the cabinet were to short and already stripped out. There were two different length screws used and none were long enough to do the job properly! They were #6 wood screws so a trip to Lowes for proper hardware about 8 duckets worth of new fasteners (went to #8 wood screws and new finishing washers) took care of the problem. The jack is another issue that will require a large fender washer and a new jack with longer threads. about 6 duckets in hardware to repair properly. The strips of wood that hold the back on are only pressed wood and one side was spilt open from not predrilling holes and forcing the screws to create there own holes when installed. This is a time saver at the factory but poor practice in my opinion! The front baffle that holds the speaker in place was held in with 6 bolts, nuts and washers. All were loose and if I did not retighten these the vibration from the speaker would have caused these all to come apart! So over all construction was less then stellar and about what I expected for the price. Still final quality checks should have caught all of this on the assembly line.Strat Blaster

I bought this to go with a Tone King Gremlin head. I figured a fender speaker would pair well with a fender clone amp. The enclosure is quite nice. The speaker however is not. I did read the poor reviews the celestion 70/80 gets online, they are spot on. This speaker is so shrill I felt like my ears were going to bleed. It has a pronounced mid scoop. Instead of returning I decided I like the fender box enough ( and the reasonable price compared to others ) and bought a different speaker. After swapping the 70/80 with a Eminence Cannabis rex, it really sounds great.Josh B

This thing is seriously light, and packs a serious punch without mud. I paired it with a phil jones c4, with a darkglass microtube 900 and a dingwall bass. Handles the full power beautifully, the highs are nice and clear, playing in drop A the speakers don't get overloaded, even when using distortion. Absolutely great cab for the priceJated

Very impressive construction. The only (minor) problem is the mounting hardware for the speakers do not line up with the EMINENCE speakers I put in. It's only a minor problem because TWO of four positions on the speakers DO line up and hold the speakers firmly in place. Very well built, great price, quick delivery time. Well done.James T.

Just got this cab on a trade and it sounds really good with both my Peavey, as well as the ZT lunchbox, serving as head amps respectively. The enclosure is probably not made out of the finest wood but it feels sturdy and it is fairly heavy for its size, at about 32 lb. I really like the white tolex-looks like the EVH 112 and with the same dimensions( although the EVH will cost you three times more). I might try to match other speakers with this cab in the future, but for now I am happy with the stock one.swingordie

This has the Same great sound of Mesa's Larger Cabinets but at only around 30lbs. This Cab is so much easier to haul to gigs Paired with one of Mesa's mini heads, either the Recto-verb 25, or Mini 25 Rectifier, The sound is absolutely amazing This little cab is Perfect for those small to medium venues or even the larger stages with everything dialed into the soundboard. It also looks and sounds great in any size room or practice space. LOVE THIS Cabinet! Bought this to pair with my Orange Micro Terror and Micro Dark. I did a lot of research before buying this and I had high expectations based on what i read and heard. I am actually blown away by the quality and sound of this. These little amps can get pretty loud and this cab takes it and can be pushed even more. It has a surprisingly round full sound, doesn’t get fizzy when the gain is cranked. I definitively recommend this, especially if pairing with one of those little Orange Micros. They sound great running through it and they fit perfectly on top.BDub

I paired this up with a Vox BC108 cabinet for a full range sound spectrum and 50watts at 4ohms capacity into a Quilter Interblock 45watt amp. The sound is nothing short of magnificent! warm, deep, rich bass to nice, tight, clear highs that sound like angelic voices. You would not believe the sound was coming from two 8" speaker cabinets. Pair this with a few favorite pedals once in a while and I can practice guitar, 4 string Bass and acoustic guitar all with one rig and very minimal space taken up I my bedroom. I have never had so much fun for less than a Benjamin. I have some low watt heads and this can makes them come alive. The coolest thing: you forget the size of the cab as you play. If you like to mix equipment, just get one. No regrets. Solid fun.Bashfull
