This is one of the worst books for guitar ever written. There's some nice basic details, but there is nothing here that will actually teach you how to practice/learn or play. THere is WAY to Many Holes in this item to be "THE ONLY BASIC GUITAR BOOK YOU WILL EVER NEED". What basic info is there is explained very poorly. Awesome classical guitar course. Not boring excercises, very enjoyable to learnjoeylau3
I came across The Christopher Parkening Guitar Method (Vols 1 & 2) as I was looking for a guide. I was returning to Classical Guitar after a long period of off and on and I had decided i needed to go back to basics. Yet I also needed something to keep me motivated and enthusiatic as I relearned old skills and added new ones. In other words I needed something to which allowed me to enjoy the learning experience. I have found this in Christopher Parkening's Guitar Method which takes you from the fundamentals such as sitting and hand positions to more advanced skills and techniques step by step and right from the start applucation and playing beautiful pieces. Also with this edition there is the possibility to download all the audio exercises and duets so that you can play along with the Maestro himself! It's amazing to imagine Im sitting in the room with Christopher Parkening playing a duet. I believe that this Volume (and Vol 2) should be an indispensable part of the classical guitarists library as a reference and teaching resource as they contain a wealth and treasure trove of exercises and pieces for guitarist's from absolute beginners to the top performers.captain_jaycee

Great book to learn guitar and music for beginners who want to go beyond "Yankee Doodle" and play real music in a relatively short time if they practice like they should.Moondog
I'm a beginner on the guitar, although I've also been learning the mandolin and violin so have a little knowledge of notes but not really chords. This book starts with the basics and progresses nicely and easily through playing notes and then chords on a guitar. I may still take lessons but this has given me a start from knowing nothing about the guitar to being able to play notes and chords for songs. The fact that a CD isn't included isn't a major factor but would be nice. I believe you can buy it separately.coloradoathlete
