I haven't tried their new series that has the high-efficiency sponge, but here's why I like the Humitars: The high efficiency sponge is large and holds a lot of water, so it can keep moisture inthe case for considerably longer. This product is easy to use and easy to check to see when the special sponge needs more water. My forced hot air home heating system has a humidifier system built in, but when its 32 degrees or colder outside (which is 5 months of the year where I live) the inside home humidity only gets as high as 28%, far below the recommended 40 – 45% range for acoustic guitars. I was using the OH-3 Oasis in my acoustic guitar but discovered recently that it has failed at the fabric seam and was slowly leaking water which caused damage to the finish of my guitar. I no longer trust, will not use, or recommend Oasis guitar humidifiers after my experience with their OH-3. I was careful to check to make sure that the Music Nomad sponge wasn't going to leak water before putting the device in the sound hole of my guitar. I checked after two minutes, 20 minutes, 2 hours, 1 day, and it didn't drip any water out onto/into my guitar. I believe that this is the best sound hole humidifier on the market at present. The small Chinese options are not openable but have a tiny sliver of "oasis" that stuff they use for flower arrangements which dry out pretty much instantly and leak if over filled. The Planet Waves version is smaller and consists of a sponge holder, and a lid and the holder has to be squeezed hard to open. In side is a very ordinary piece of large holed sponge which dries out very quickly. The Guitar Nomad can be refilled without removing it from the guitar simply by opening the hinged lid. This humidifier is functioning and easy to use, and its components are thick and solid, and not likely to break. The holster makes it capable for any guitar: solid body, semi-solid body, and acoustic, because it can be tightly attached to a case. However, the attachment is not reusable. If it's good enough for Taylor Guitars, it must be good! I bought two for two Taylor GC cases and after a week the pads are still moist. I am taking their advice to heart and will only use distilled water with these. Watching factory tour videos, most tone woods are dried (slowly) to about 50% humidity. These are helping keep the case interiors there, so the instruments are maintaining happy tones.
Acoustic guitars are not the only instruments that need humidity control, ever have an annoying buzz on one string on yiur Les Paul that wasn't there days ago? It's not your action needing adjustment usually, it's yiur guitar crying out for moisture. I've experimented with D'idario humidifiers in my acoustic guitars, then I added Herco versions to my electric and acoustic cases. In some cases, especially in SoCal, the wimpy sponge in the D'idarios can't sustain for more than four-days. I started using Music Nomad's products and found their sponge to hold nearly 5x more distilled water and lasts more than a week in a sealed case. The Taylor large display hydrometer keeps me informed about conditions in the room, but lately I decided to try the Music Nomad hydrometer. It's within 2% humidity of the Taylor and can accurately measure what's going on inside. The larger case humidifier makes the need for a second (Herco) only necessary at the driest time of year (September through January). Very happy since far. Just don't oversaturate the sponge and pour off any excess after letting it sit an hour. The price is worth its capacity and time saved refilling those D'idarios.4paolo

I uses these perfect little babies in the guitar case to protect the head stock from dry out. Just fill the sponge with water and drop it in the headstock area of the acoustic guitar case.This is one of the few perfect, simple,and trouble free designed humidifiers I have seen. I've used them for years. Sometimes simple…is far better. And these are simple to use, and they work. One of these may also be dropped in the storage bin of case to protect the neck from drying out and bowing. They also usually in the main body of the case, however I think the green snake hose humidifiers work better in that area of will fit in the case beside the body or neck of the acoustic guitar. But the headstock needs to be protected. I have several Gibsons which have Mother of Pearl inlays on the Head Stock and these inlays can crack, and the nitro surface of the head stock also can fracture around the inlays, if the head stock gets too dry in low humidity conditions. These small drop in humidifiers are a God send of protection! I actually think they are way too expensive for what they are, but they work…and they last for years. I've been in the music industry professionally playing Trombone and horn section for 25 years. But the Guitar world still feels a bit alien to me As a complete novice, learning Acoustic Guitar for the first time, I'm starting from scratch with accessories and strings, straps to finger exercisers. I know a fair few Guitarists playing Electric, Electro Acoustic and Bass and they ALL recommend Planet Waves now D'addario. I can understand why! The 2 way Humidipak system is genius in its simplicity. 3 packets of Water Gel like substance that you put in cloth bags. Hang 1 of the bags over your strings into Sound Hole. The other bag placed under Headstock in the case. Easy. Totally mess free, no water near the Guitar or case. Takes a minute to setup. Looks great too. You don't need to loosen the strings to use the Humidipak. What sold it to me is the 2 way process. Not only does it add humidity to your Guitar and case, it takes it out too. So there's little chance over doing the humidity and making your Guitar too wet. Which I'm told is as bad as over drying. The packs last from 2 to 6 months apparently and then you buy refils. If your Guitar is over dry there are stronger Humidipaks available that either precondition or help restore. Then you switch to regular packs. Yes it's a little costly but if your Guitar is valuable to you or in money this is peace of mind. Especially as most insurance companies do not cover for over dry guitars apparently!William G.
This is an excellent product but a little common sense goes a long way. If you live in a very dry climate (e.g., Arizona, where I lived for many years) you'll need supplemental humidification. When I lived in Phoenix I used a room humidifier, an Oasis case humidifier, and Humidipak. On the other hand, if you live in a very humid climate (e.g., Houston, where I live now), your Humidipak pouches may never dry out because they're absorbing moisture, but they still need to be replaced every six months. I've never experienced a leakage problem in 10 years using Humidipak, but it certainly could happen. On balance, I think the small risk is worth it. Every solution for the humidity problem has its limitations, but in my opinion this is the best bet.Mark
I must've gotten a bad batch, the dehumidification does NOT get the airspace into the 40-60% range. I tested in freezer bag, some 70% basement air, two hygrometers and a bare humidipak (without the cloth cover). Within 2 hours the airspace in the bag was brought to 65%, impressive, however it did not go any further the rest of the day. It looked like it was hovering around 65%, which is contrary to the advertising. These were two salt-tested hygrometers to measure. So I will have to augment with silica gel packs to get it in range, the humidipak would then compete with the silica gel to keep the air from drying out too much hopefully in the 50% range. This is assuming the humidipak humidification function is working better than its de-humification function.Richard

I just bought a F2512E and I don't do gig bags. For just a little more than a generic case, I went for the Guild original. Very well-built and well-padded. I just love the New Case Smell. Prolix music vertigo guitar humidifier, red drop in the humidifier when the action gets too low, and remove it when that sweet action returns. if you keep your guitar in a case, monitor the humidity inside the sound hole. when it drops below 45% rh you will know it is time to humidify, and when it exceeds 55% rh you will know it’s time to stop. finally, don’t be fooled by the outdoor humidity. relative humidity is temperature dependent. as such, heated indoor air is often much drier than the air outside. do not squeeze, wring or apply excessive pressure to the humidifier as this can damage the polymer beads and may cause extrusion. notes about the vertigo guitar humidifier: rarely, while charging, small amounts of polymer extrusion may occur. if you experience this, simply wipe away, it will not damage your guitar or the tone wood in any way. the polymer cannot be absorbed by your guitar and will not harm the wood of your instrument in any way. time may be extended when using water with higher solute concentrations (i.e. hard water). times can vary by region. contains sodium polyacrylate. keep away from animals and children. do not swallow. if ingested, seek medical attention. treat the humidifier with care and it should last a lifetime.

Martin guitar's 18ahg guitar humidifier is made from the finest materials available. the water suction stem within the martin humidifier absorbs ten times its weight in water and it slowly emits moisture through the holes. martin keeps the factory at a constant 45-55 percent humidity and 72-77 degrees fahrenheit. if either humidity or temperature get far away from these factory conditions, your guitar is in danger. it is recommended to store your guitar in its case when not in use. humidity is easier to control in a smaller space.
