As a number of people have said, Treble boosters are perhaps not the most exciting addition to one’s board. But now that I have one, it’s hard to imagine how I ever survived without it. The extra eq tweaking options of the Naga Viper go over and above most other treble boosters which makes it a real ‘Swiss Army knife’ of any pedalboard. It’s like an EQ, boost, and overdrive in one. It adds sparkle to anything you can throw at it. And the range control is just brilliant; allowing you to tailor your eq quickly and easily to match any combination of guitar, amp, pickups and pedals… Like a master EQ control. I bought the Naga Viper to lift a dark guitar and a richly voiced uni-vibe and it utterly transformed my tone into jubilant sparkly goodness. I have a few other ‘dark voiced’ pedals and the Naga Viper really brings them to life. I knew the Naga Viper was designed primarily for cranked Marshall’s or Vox AC-30’s… so I was slightly apprehensive about how it would work with clean single-channel amps in a home studio environment. My stereo set-up comprises a 68 Princeton Ri & Morgan SW22. I put the Naga Viper before a Jan-Ray and then into said Amps and the sound is nothing less than pure gold. I do love how it doesn’t colour the tone… it just cuts and/or boosts in all the right ways without changing the Voice of your amp(s). From an entirely personal and subjective point of view, I’m not mad about the aesthetics of the pedal; I feel the colour scheme of the graphics is a bit ‘late 80’s/early 90’s’. No crime per se, and I appreciate this is just a matter of opinion, but I reckon it might sit better on most pedalboards if it had more of a vintage look to it(?) Have had this pedal for about 4 years and still my favorite pedal. It enhances the harmonics, colors the sound like the famous rangemaster does, and just makes everything better. One guy said somewhere it excites just the right frequencies.. it really does. I use it to boost my 65 amps London (Vox type). Boost other pedals greatly too. This is like a secret sauce. 2. Bogner La Grange – Overdrive / Boost Pedal

The la grange pedal is designed to emulate the famous british "plexi" amplifiers from the mid 60's. the wide variety of controls and switches, give you decades of legendary plexi tones, all the way up to the era of the modded amps from the late 80's and throughout the 90's. the boost function can operate independently within the pedal. with its own separate level control, the boost is activated via its own foot-switch to be either used as an independent boost to give the front of your amp or other pedals a push, or together with the la grange's main circuitry. fundamentally this is two independent pedals, with the boost function being in series after the la grange! reinhold designed the la grange pedal with an op-amp input, followed by five discrete class a gain stages and incorporated germanium diode clipping. the reason for this approach is to minimise the input noise floor while preserving the clarity and touch sensitivity throughout the entire gain range provided by the circuit. the la grange pedal is powered by a standard 9v battery or 9vdc regulated power supply. reinhold's advanced circuitry internally elevates the voltage to a substantially higher level. the higher voltage provides a greater dynamic range which closely resembles the feel of a real amplifier therefore running the pedal above 9vdc will not improve dynamics and even can damage the circuit, therefore only use a regulated 9vdc power supply!

I'm glad I decided to give this pedal a try. It's extremely versatile, but did take a little bit of time to find the sound that I wanted. With this pedal, you can achieve everything from a clean boost, to a soft clipping blues drive, to full on distortion if need be as the higher gain settings straddle the line between overdrive and distortion. It can even get a bit fuzzy at times depending on your settings. For me, I'm playing through a Fender '59 Bassman ltd. set to the edge of breakup (about 5 or 6) so I use this pedal on the low gain setting to push the front end and achieve a sweet blues/classic rock sound, and when I need that extra volume/top end push for solos I have the boost function right there! Honestly, that's one of the main things that attracted me to this pedal in the first place since I couldn't decide whether to get an overdrive or a boost. The solution being one pedal that does both very well! I would definitely recommend this pedal to anyone looking for a quality dirt box as this can give you the sounds you want for almost any style of music you play. I absolutely love this pedal. Sounds amazing and is built like a tank. I bought this pedal for a covers gig of mainly marshall style guitar music. My amp is a Swart Atomic Space Tone Pro (6V6 tubes) and I wanted to get a mix of low gain to cranked Marshall sounds from it – it's a great amp but will not do the marshall thing by itself. I tried using a Sansamp GT2 which I had lying around but it just wasn't getting me there – far too scooped with no way near enough midrange. Seconds after plugging in the La Grange I was hearing all the sounds I'd been looking for. It blends very well with the pokey midrange of the Swart but I think would be even better through a Fender Twin. In practice I mainly used the Medium gain setting, whilst rolling back the volume on the guitar for cleaner sounds. With the the La Grange on Medium I was able to dial in the perfect gain for the earlier rock styles (AC/DC, early Aerosmith etc) but a quick switch to the high gain setting and I was in Van Halen/RATT territory. As stated in many videos online this is not a high gain monster and you can't get to JCM 900/SL territory…but that's not why you're buying this pedal. It's fat and ballsy with lots of midrange oomph. I'm sure the La Grange could get a little hotter with a boost pedal behind it – something I still need to test. This things cleans up really well with the guitar volume knob and there's a huge about of volume and gain on tap with the Boost circuit engaged, which I found great for solos and actually gives that early Angus lead sound. The eq on this pedal is quite interesting as there's no Treble, Middle or Bass. However, between the Tone, Presence and Ch. Blend controls it's super easy to dial it in. The Tone knob is super sensitive so I found only slight adjustments from 12 O'Clock were required. I haven't tried the expression pedal input but I can imagine this being very useful especially if you're playing a wide variety of styles. Personally found the Variac mode a little saggy for my taste. The Swart, when pushed already has enough sag so not required for me. The only thing I'd change on this pedal is to make the knobs a little tighter. I find that they can get knocked very easily, but as long as you know where they're supposed to be it's not an issue. This is a great pedal, worth the money. I found it works best with a great clean amp – think Marshall non-master volume, Fender twin etc. Set up your amp with a great clean/rhythm sound. Then dial in the LaGrange for all your dirty work. IF you really spend some time dialing it in, you can get even more versatility out of it by reaching down and flipping some of the switches on the fly, or for whatever song might be coming up next in your set. It's responsive to guitar volume changes, just like a good Plexi. The clean boost switch is super welcome, too. Variac setting seems to work best with single coil guitars. i cant believe Musicians Friend is restricting a word that is used in a product they sell. Replace ** with ff The Metal Mu** gave me the sound I was looking for. I have a Marshall DSl40c and an LTD EC401 and they rock. However, when the pedal is disengaged, there was little to no volume, so if I wanted a clean sound, I had to unplug my guitar from the pedal and plug it into the amp directly. I emailed EHX about the issue, they said it was a sensor issue and to return it to MF. I have returned the unit and I am waiting on my replacement. The return was painless, as I expected it would be, can't wait to get my replacement.Kyle E
Great for a pedal into a decent clean. Settings are touchy tho; makes it a little tricky to dial it in at first, but once you get a feel for it, it's not so bad. Go against your intuition to crank it; it seems to prefer being restrained. Otherwise, lots of different tones; very versatile. Seems to prefer passive pickups; my active's get a little screechy and bring out that "pedal-ly" tone, whereas the passives give a more organic sound. It's not as good as plugging straight into a Peavy, Randall or Boogie or something. A pedal never will be. But as far as a pedal into a clean amp goes.. you can get some pretty satisfying "high gain but still natural sounding" tones. Without the price tag of a high gain stack. Basically it's the sweetest pedal distortion i've played. Such a range of sounds that you can dial into nearly any amp, guitar or situation. But yeah, don't expect it to sound like you're plugged into a satan. It's more for an all purpose rig that you want to get some brutal metal out of. Also, I got some cool stuff out of it by plugging it into my FX loop.. but i usually keep it in front of the amp as it's a more versatile position. On my H&K you can use it as a boost into the lead channel, but it breaks up pretty easily, gets real noisy, and actually sounds way more brutal into the clean channel. My eq pedal works better as a boost into the amp distortion. By the way, a noise gate comes in handy. Also a Wah after the pedal.. makes things interesting.Kenny
Well not to do a life story I am the lead guitarist, in a giging punk band. for the last year and a half been trying to find a good tone at such a loud volume. So I settled on a mxr full bore metal pedal. And a lbr boost from electro hanmonix. Now the mxr is a good pedal, however when combined with the boos thats where trouble began. when i hit the boost for very short modest solos, it is punk, it would take all the bottom end out with a huge shot of mid range. I tweeked and turned till the cows cane home nothin. now with the metal miff, with the top boost saved the day. I was worried it would just flood me with treble and sound very bad not so. I was looking for a boost pedal to drive an old Gibson GA-25 with a Strat. The Archer sounds above and beyond. It has plenty of volume to drive the amp and setting the gain between 10 and 2 and rolling off the treble smooths out the crunch while still maintaining it character. Used it with a Plexi 100 and a Twin Reverb as well as a Rickenbacker, Tele, and Les Paul with the same result. The Archer sounds fantastic and each amp and guitar sounds like that amp or guitar. Worked the same on other pedals. Used it to drive an OCD and it the perfect bump without having to use an amp with complicated switching. No noise from the pedal while toggling on or off. Treble knob is super useful to smooth out or add clarity. It was really easy to dial it in and there's a pretty wide sweet spot. It's super responsive to picking and fingering. I kinda want to buy another to have an Archer drive an Archer. Would that be weird?Nickname
The pedal is small and therefore pedalboard-friendly but is still built like a tank. The knobs and switch feel totally quality stuff, the chassis is rock-solid and good looking. This pedal can be used, just like a Klon Centaur, as a clean boost up to a mild unique sounding overdrive. It gives you plenty of volume and headroom (you generally have to keep the volume knob close to zero if you want to match the bypass volume) and the Gain control is very accurate and allows you to shape your tone just as you desire. It is a great blues or rock pedal and gives its best if put on top of a tube amp that's almost breaking up but you can still use it, as a regular drive pedal, in front of a clean amp and it's guaranteed to sound better than most of the amplifiers' internal gain stages. Not a cheap pedal, in line with its main competitors, but definitely worth the price. If you want a Klon-like quality pedal that really gives you the Klon feeling without destroying your wallet, the Archer is a perfect choice.reptile_breath
I used heavy fuzzes for many years, I decided a few years ago to switch to something different. Been switching between the germanium ocd and the Xotic BB preamp last few years. The Archer does what I was looking for. Sounds great with my guitar volume slightly turned down. I've never used one of those real klons. But I now can understand why everyone likes em. If this circuit is indeed the closest yet to a true Klon, then I now see what all the hoopla has been about …. though I would never have even considered going after one of those ridiculously priced after-market Klon's. This is the most versatile overdrive I have ever had. Not only does the gain offer a wide – and always clear – range, the tone actually does something! Quite a lot, actually. The video on this v the silver model v an original Klon were very useful. I chose this one as it seemed a tad warmer, better suited to my mainly humbucker sound. This pedal is very versatile drive pedal. I could easily see 2 of these on my board. As a clean boost, it works very well and creates a very smooth creamy tone, but when the drive gets set above 10 oclock, you start to see some crunch added in. Around 12 and above, you hit some serious overdrive/distortion. This replaced a Tumnus Deluxe, which is also a great pedal, but it did pretty much what my tubescreamer did, but this pedal stands out! I've used this for Rhythm and Lead guitar with many different guitars and it works well with gain around 11am-1pm, level around 12, and treble around 12. I use my Duecetone running through both sides. I really bought it for the clean boost, which is great for giving more volume, tone and variable gain to clean sounds. You can go over the top with two sides together, but it can work if you dial each one in appropriately. This is a great pedal to use straight off of your guitar when your amp has a multi-effects pedal on it. It gives you simple volume, tone and gain controls at your fingertips – as opposed to most multi-effects units, which make you go into some particular mode to adjust basic settings. I love it. Great for adding crunch or distortion to a clean setting and having infinite adjustment.mamerjamer
Sound: Gives you several great variations of the RAT pedals to choose from (turbo, you dirty, clean, and vintage)…each one slightly different, but all retaining the general modern RAT tones. Very flexible, true bypass, run as two pedals or one pedal with 2 distortions. Contains all the best Rat sounds, sans the 85 reissue, which I have and is still my favorite (but is $40 more). But great buy for the price in my opinion. Makes the crunch Channel on my 100W Marshall DSL come alive with classic 80's metal. Sounds pretty decent in from on of Vox AC30s as well. Features: Once again great options built in… 3 variations on each channel, tru bypass American made. Ease of Use: Complaint is the input output jack are a little out of order if you choose to use it as a single pedal, and distortion mode switching is on the back which makes it kinda a pain, but then again I could see having the switches on the top of the pedal being a possible problem. Quality: Had to return first one because 2nd distortion channel was stuck on one mode only, not 3. Could have been a one off mistake. Otherwise built like a tank. Value: If you like Rat pedals, you'll definitly want this one for your collection..much cheaper than buying the different pedals individually. An incredibly wide range of overdrives and distortions can be gotten by this pedal. It can put out just about any type of dirt I want. I wouldn't have thought having two seperate dist. pedals in one would be that useful, but it comes in handy more often than I would've thought. I usually have mine set for a nice, light overdrive for bluesy, Gilmoury things on one channel, a heavier distortion for the rhythm playing on the other channel, and then cascade them for some wicked leads. Works great for all of my guitars, from bluesy standard tuning to sludgy drop B (and lower), single coils and humbuckers, and it even make a great bass distortion. The one flaw: As almost every other review of this anywhere points out, the INPUT and OUTPUT jacks are the opposite of just about every other pedal anywhere else. This just causes more of a hassle on your pedal board. I was also hesitant at the price, but considering you're really getting two great pedals, it's worth it.

Orange have made this fancy bit of aby switching kit available at the namm 2016 show, it's an active pedal with 2 outputs. there is an isolating transformer on one output which is great for keeping your amps groundings playing nicely together, the transformer is completely transparent. both outputs are buffered too and this thing makes hardly any noise at all. this is a totally silent aby switcher available today, producing little to no noise or thumps when switching between amps. there's a lovely extra feature in the polarity switch which can allow you to address and phase issues bothering you. the led light has 3 colours indication on amp, the other or both.

Pure tonal bliss! The parametric EQ is a game changer. That being said, the boost. I'm in a cover band and I have a ton of presents for the plethora of styles we play. The boost works as a boost on less than half of the presets. Again the tone is amazing the boost is less than I need. I'm definitely keeping it. I saw an online review of this pedal and it intrigued me. Simply put, you can select the specific frequency you want to boost and then decide how much boost it gets. There is control over both the lower and upper frequencies. If you do some experimenting you can get all sorts of useful sounds. Hyper boosted mids for solos, treble boost to make darker pickups sparkle, notched wah sounds, there all in there. It also mixes very well with other gain pedals. I use this pedal for solo boost, 3 band eq is nice. There is much more going on with this pedal. I keep tinkering with it on its own to push my tube amps. Get this pedal if you aren't cutting through the band during your solos. Find your rhythm sound and then when it comes solo time, stomp on the tank and you will cut right through! I'm looking at other Fender pedals as well I think they are the under dog hidden gem of pedals out there. My advise get it!! If u don't like it, you will easily find someone who does!!Greg R

This is a great tube distortion but not a stand alone preamp. If you want great direct recording sound I'd look elsewhere (like AMT), but if you want to run this thing in front of the clean channel of your amp this thing is a winner. It really does sound great with true tube responsiveness. Contrary to some other review here, the tube does get really warm as it runs on high voltage. Seems to be built really solidly but is also big and bulky. It also needs to be plugged in via the included cable. I wanted an all in one guitar preamp for direct recording and this unit didn't workout for me. It is a distortion pedal. That doesn't mean that it isn't a great product. The emulated output is decent I guess but nothing that would pass in any REAL recording studio. Great for scratch tracking in a project studio and the responsiveness is inspiring. I sold it to a friend after a week of ownership and he thinks its the greatest thing in the world. He is running in front of an amp 🙂 All in all this is a great tube distortion when running through a clean channel on an amp. I don't have an effects loop so I can't comment on that. I want to first start out by saying that the tone coming from this pedal is just incredible. I gave it about 5 minutes to warm itself up, and when I strummed my very first chord on the clean channel, I was blown away. The tone was warm, rich, and thick all the way up to maximum gain, and each note was articulate and clear. I was also very impressed with all the features. Both channels have seperate gain and volume controls, with bass, mid, and treble control. One of the cool features on this pedal is the ISF knob. It allows you to change your tone from a woody, British sounding distortion, to a crushing American grit, or anything in between. The only complaints that I have about this pedal, are it's lack of gain, and noisiness. I already have a nice overdrive pedal (VOX Ice 9 OD), and really just wanted the clean and crunch settings on this unit to use as a tube preamp. I was much more concerned with the high-gain distortion side of this pedal. I must say, that while this unit delivers incredible tone, the gain just doesn't do anything for me. In all honesty, it doesn't have any more gain than my overdrive pedal. The second problem, as I mentioned, is the noise coming from this thing. This thing is pretty noisy on it's own, but when you chain it to other distortion effects simultaniously, the noise and feedback is RIDICULOUS. This thing really needs an internal noise gate. I bought this pedal for home use, as I have an Engl Powerball for playing live. I wanted a tube pedal so I could work on the consistency of my playing, since solid state pedals cover too much. This Blackstar pedal works great in that respect. It actually has a little less gain than my Engl (especially at low volumes) so it's even less forgiving for my playing. But the tone is nice and you can get a good amount of variation in gain levels and style. (Doesn't sound like a Powerball, but definitely works for metal) What is unfortunate, is that from early on in owning this pedal the switches and knobs have been inconsistent and failed on and off (as has been said in other reviews). Luckily I don't use it for playing live, or I would have smashed it by now. Really, for a fairly high-priced pedal, I would expect higher quality components. This pedal is unreliable, and luckily all I need it for is sitting in my living room playing around. It's too bad, because if it was reliable, I'm sure it would make a fantastic preamp for a one-channel tube amp, or a great overdrive/lead tone for live situations. If I trusted Blackstar I might even consider the new Heavy Metal Tube pedal they introduced, but after this one's issues, I'm just gonna try another brand when I'm ready to replace it.davefoxtattoos

This little stompbox is great! It gives me gain for days, really boosts my sound while making it louder and allows me to switch between clean and overdrive just by stomping it rather than switching pickups. It would work great for a lone guitarist in a band who would have to switch between, say, a clean verse and an overdriven chorus such as myself (for songs like Catamaran by Kyuss.) It also makes my amp sound much, much better and gives it a much warmer distorted sound. It works very well for clean sounds as well, and makes them sound clearer. You can put your amp on clean and turn this thing up and you have a very nice rock sound. It also seems to sound better this way. I would suggest to people who aren't in a grounded environment to buy a grounding plug adapter (they sell them here) if you're going to use it with your amp's gain up as well as the pedal because it really hums and feedsback this way. Overall, don't hesitate to buy this. I recommended it to my friend who might buy it. It's worth the cash. It adds gain enough to do about anything and should work for all genres.Tony

This pedal delivers exactly what it's supposed to. The tap controlled delay is precise and very flexible. The EQ is nice in that you have a little bit of overdrive on tap even before getting into PLEXI mode. Once you're there, all the gain you could want is available between the plexi and boost switches. All this before you even get to the portability factor; where else can you get so much in one guitar case- friendly pedal? The cherry on top of this sonic sundae is its ability to be plugged straight into a sound board; no more amp worries on the fly…..just leave it up to the sound engineer from there!celt132

Robert Keeley, a legend in the pedal world and such a fantastic guy. I own a number of his pedals going right back to when he was modding other brands many years ago and never had a problem with a single one of them. I'm confident that Robert would be there to fix anything if I did have a problem. The Katana was the first Keeley branded design and sounds as good as it ever did. It's capable of a pure clean boost that does not colour your tone one bit, right up to pushing into overdrive territory. One of the best clean boosts i have tried. Pairs well with almost any amp I've paired it with. Small footprint is one of the best things compared to the quality of this little guy. The king of tone! I don't use this to increase my volume but to fatten it up at the same output volume. Gives it more life! Also it has 2 trim pots inside for overdrive gain and treble cut off. They have gotten expensive over the years (along with everything else) but it's history and reputation speaks for itself. I've had various Boss pedals over the course of 30 years and I have never, ever, not once had one that failed or malfunctioned. I wanted a cheaper alternative but what made me commit to this pedal, once again, was it's true bypass/buffer capabilities. I'm using this one differently than I've customarily have used them in the past. This is to be used in a pedalboard dedicated to an electrified Kalimba (pictured below). I'll be wiring it up soon. The Boss is the ONLY new pedal that will be on that board. All that are there now I've had sitting for years and decided to put them to use.Christopher
Perhaps EQ is not the most exciting of pedals compared to other effects, but this really does make an enormous difference to your sound and help you get the best from the rest of your gear. Boost the mids to stand out from bass. Scoop the mids and boost bass/treble to sound like Metallica. Use the independent Level control as an overall volume boost (or limit – but who wants that?!) Extremely easy to set up and configure, in Boss's usual bullet-proof format. Highly recommended.Steve M.
Brilliant on-the-spot tone-shaping tool. Opens up virtually infinite sound possibilities, very handy when stacking overdrives with some or a lot of overlap in their tonal voicings. Also great for approximating the tones of completely different styles of pickups. Small adjustments tend to work best, a subtle nudge of the slider in the problematic frequency band is often all you need. Equally, you can throw that out and morph the tonal profile to something incredibly different. After my tuner it's hands-down the most indispensable pedal on my board. Allows me to shape the one tone control on the Pro Junior IV into even more harmonic/percussive/airy/creamy/bell-like territory. Been guitaring more or less 20 years now and i could probably count on one hand the amount of reviews I've been compelled to write, if that's an indicator of how game-changing the GE-7 has been to the fundamental way in which i dial in a tone.Mark

I was reluctant to buy this pedal because of it's simplicity. It is now on the top of my list of pedals. I was using it at first for parts of songs that need a punch. It works great for that, but now I find myself using it all the time. I have dialed it in with a Blues Driver pedal and a delay with some reverb and it is the sound I have been looking for. I am a home use player and wanted to run this in the effects loop of my 40 watt tube amp to get my preamp crunch without blowing out my windows. I quickly noted that the response was smooth and just what i wanted except that as i neared the full heel position to get the volume i wanted, i was getting some very loud popping from my amp which i worried might blow a speaker. I read online that other Ernie Ball vp owners had noted that there were loose solder contacts on the pot. I took a look and sure enough, one of the solder lugs was loose on mine too. The wire was soldered just fine but the lug was loosely crimped to the little board on the pot. I took the pedal apart pulled the pot out, crimped the solder lug better put it back together (which was a real pain to get the string wrapped correctly and back on the spring). With the pedal back together, it worked great and gave me exactly what i wanted with no popping. This is a great product but could really benefit from some better quality control.Jack
This volume pedal has a great, even volume swell. The addition of gain controls makes the volume pedal even more useful, however. When I'm playing bass, I sometimes want to increase volume for certain passages, but without the sudden change in tone that comes from an overdrive or boost pedal. This does that (I use a few different class D amps). Additionally, this allows me to have greater flexibility with my volume without needing to fiddle with my amp or bass' volume knobs while playing. On guitar, this can act as a nice, subtle boost that can push gain-ier amps (I use an Orange) into some sweet saturation. Great pedal.Derek P

Es ist schon Wahnsinn, was sich in den letzten Jahren im Modeling-Bereich getan hat. Ich habe lange den Vox AC 15 und später auch den AC 10 mein Eigen genannt und war davon immer begeistert. Allerdings war es mir nicht möglich abends damit zu üben und die ganze Schlepperei wollte ich auch nicht mehr. Habe mich damals für eine All-In-One-Lösung entschieden – Line6 POD HD 500, Tech21 Liverpool,… Naja, wurde damit nie richtig warm… viele Versuche später kam ich bei der Atomic Amplifire-Box an und war recht zufrieden, auch wenn es nicht DEN Sound meiner Amps erreichen konnte (auch nicht mit IRs; extra welche gekauft). Habe das Teil aber wirklich lange gespielt. Was soll ich sagen?! Ich musste einfach mal dem Hype von YouTube folgen und mir das neue Teil von UA gönnen. Als Vox-Fan musste es auch die Ruby sein. Und jetzt?!? geht die Sonne wirklich auf!!! Wahnsinn, das erste Mal bin ich richtig hin und weg – sogar über Kopfhörer! Der Sound hat wirklich alles, was ich so im Besitz hatte, übertroffen (vielleicht ist Axe oder Kemper besser, ich weiß es nicht…) Nunja, aber es gibt auch eine Kleinigkeit, die hätte ich anders programmiert: Der Boost sollte für alle Kanäle frei wählbar sein, ich hätte gerne auch den Rangemaster im Brilliant-Kanal. Kurzum: ich habe die Firebox verkauft und werde nur noch über meine Ruby spielen. Das ist schon so ein bisschen wie verliebt sein 🙂
WOW. I was previously using a Walrus Audio ACS-1. While that is a very good sounding amp sim pedal, to me it sounds only vaguely like the amps it claims to emulate. The Ruby certainly is less versatile, but it sounds like an actual Vox. The tone is so much more open and dynamic, and it actually has proper gain. The brilliant channel has loads of chime. For context, I used to own a Vox AC10 that I recorded through a load box, and this pedal responds amazingly close to that setup. Now I don't regret selling that amp. The app is also very useful. I really appreciate that I don't have to plug in a USB cable or connect my phone to a 1/4 jack to change settings. Maybe this will encourage other pedal builders to use bluetooth. My only gripes: The brilliant channel can sound extremely mid-scooped. I had to turn the treble and bass way down to compensate. In general, they didn't need to copy the actual EQ controls of the AC30. There's a reason why most amps don't work this way. Screw authenticity, give me a mids knob and vibrato on every channel.
