Best Guitar Amp Modeler (Jan 2023 Update)

Recently downsized my Fractal (Axe-fx) live rig into this little unit. I've had it now for about a month and i'm really happy with it. It does everything i hoped it would and the tones i'm able to pull are great. The built in presets are a really great place to start and you can dial in your 'sound' even more with the many effects available. The touchscreen is an awesome feature but i'm really happy with the computer editing capabilities, as that's what i'm used to. The build quality is actually really strong and the built in exp pedal is super solid too. And it's small, like.. smaller than my keyboard! Perfect for carrying around to shows! I was also able to get this really cheap compared to it's competition. There's even an Ampero gig bag that you can purchase separately that is fantastic. Cheers!Barak B.

I have been VERY impressed with the Hotone Ampero so far. I have no idea how they were able to create such an amazing product for such an unbelievable price. It's like a Helix LT shrunken down for about 1/5 of the price and it has the same dual DSP SHARC chips as Helix! The unboxing is similar to an Apple product. Build quality seems very solid. There are tons of AMPS, EFFECTS, and CAB Sims in here! And so far, they all sound great. I've only been through a small % of all this stuff. But I can't wait to see what I can do with it. P.S. I had a great experience with Sam Ash! I was able to negotiate a better deal which made things even better! I usually use mics, but this unit sounds good run directly into the mixing board thanks to the better than average amp/cab emulators. The overdrive/distortion and chorus algorithms are particularly noteworthy, and the reverb and delays are also more than adequate. Definitely one of the best overall multi-effects pedals I've used, especially in a direct to board capacity. The interface is easy enough to operate, the menus intuitive and , again, the sound is really good. -Better than most, actually.DAVID

I have bought and sold several amps over the past few years, and I think this one's the keeper. It reminds me a bit of the katana 50 in that it has lots of features – but it is far easier to figure out how to use. I wish it had a slightly smaller footprint, for portability's sake, but the sound and usability make up for it. I also wish manufacturers would provide more useful documentation, but there are lots of helpful videos on the web. From clean, to crunch, to filthy – and some Fender Vibratone if you like – this amp can do just about anything.CR

We don't turn it up past 3. The distortion sounds great. The amp modules sound great. For metal and grunge which my daughter plays its fantastic. I used the acoustic channel for jazz ukulele and it sounds great as well.James

I'm really picky with my amps, so much so that I've only had one amp my whole 5+ years of playing and seeiing this new amp really, made me wanna get one, don't think of it as a legit replacer to a real 6405 or a XXX Head and Cab, think of it as a beginner amp, something to get started one, yes it has a lot of knobs and buttons that may seem intimidating, but take some time to get to know the little beast? You're gonna be kicking fun with this thing for hours.
It has some pretty alright effects besides the amp itself, the only thing I will say is that when passing 4-5 on a distorted amp like the 6505 it rumbles, and not in a good way as well as the whole amp kit app, IOS only? That's a bummer

I bought a Takamine EG523CDX-12 HB, and the TK-40 electronics were too hot to plug directly into my Behringer mixer. So I bought the module primarily for the pre-amp, and it does that admirably. I get a sweet sound through the XLR, rather than the muddy mess I got plugging directly. The pre-amp is passive and doesn't drain the battery. Good inexpensive solution, the sound of the 12 string is very smooth and sweet. But then there's that foot switch. I got lost for well over an hour being a feedback tube monster through the amp. The drivers are very nostalgic and very tuby. A lot of fun for the price. Not sure if I'll ever incorporate it into an act, though it is possible, but it's great fun adding it to the FX of the mixer and amp. I don't think that I'd add it to a multiple pedal lineup, as today's pedals weren't designed for tube amps. But as a base for a straight old style rock sound, it offers a lot for the price in a simple package.Fringewood

This thing sounds terrific but has one major design flaw. For the money? A bargain. I wanted a modular cab simulator to quickly dial in big amp sounds in a small work area. It sounds awesome in and of itself, BUT: you can't turn off the speaker simulation. What this means is that you can't insert an effects loop the way you could in a real preamp before the speaker. Your effects all have to go in front of the GDI21 or after the speaker simulation – NOT in between the way you would with an amp with an effects loop. I suppose it would be a lot cheaper to add a button that turns off the speaker simulation than to install a physical effects send and return jack in a unit like this. It may be a good candidate to try modding! For practical use as is: this is an amp simulator that can be recorded or used as an heavy 2nd virtual speaker for a live setup with a line splitter. I haven't tried recording with it yet, but it sounds pretty sublime through my studio headphones and monitors. You just have to be aware that it has a very different sound if you try to affect it, as all your modulation, time-based effects, etc. will also process the sound of the simulated speaker and mic placement.Eddie

Took a chance and pulled the trigger on this little number for use in my home studio. I wanted something simpler than the pile of multi-effect units i have to reprogram every time i want to put down some tracks. This unit has excellent hi-gain amp emulations and take effects well (compressor, modulation, and echo IN; reverb OUT in the chain), and plugs directly into my tape deck, no muss, no fuss. as I use it for recording purposes, i can't attest to its utility and durability on live gigs: the plastic case might not be up to getting bashed around. For a few bucks more, I can't see how the makers can't put the guts in a tough cast aluminum casing.wrightj2p3g

I recently replaced a 5 watt Roland cube street with the more powerful cube street EX. I was disappointed that the EX did not come with Roland JC setting. The clean setting on the EX produced a sterile, cold sound that I warmed up nicely with the Behringer tube modeler. This was my only reason for purchasing this pedal. I have occasional use for a battery operated amp and this pedal allows me to get the warm tones that I require.Richard

Case is plastic to evidently help with cost. With the cost of musical equipment any help is great. I take very good care of equipment so I do not "stomp" on them. Pedal has quality sounds that seem to work within relm of eq'ing. This pedal has it's own drive built in although a bit sensitive. Take your time and you can dial in some quality tones and sounds. I play lots of various music ranging from southern, blues and Christian rock and have been able to fine something nice that works with each style or genre. Again the pedal controls seem a little sensitive so take your time when you start with the pedal. I enjoy expermiemting so this facet is a-ok by me. Over all good pedal.Bo L.

Overall: I bought a VT40X used this summer and I've been floored. I have Mesa Boogie and Frenzel tube amps so I can compare sounds anytime and don't have to play solid state if I don't want to. When it's evening or late night and I want to be nice to the neighbors this thing comes out and I don't have to feel deprived at all. The Dumble (Boutique OD) in particular gives beautiful rounded bell tones at all volume levels and reacts naturally to increased gain. British 800 sounds like what its intended to mimic. I expected to hate the speaker but it seems fine. The software is needed so that you can tweak the amp to get exactly what you want. It's a bit of a pain but worth it. The user interface on the amp is pretty terrible but once you're set up you won't need to change it very often. Overall this is a gem of a small amp that could stand up to small gigs with no problem as long as you can get it up off the floor on a chair or stand. I'd buy another one of these anytime, and highly recommend it for beginners who need to find their sound and decide what hardware will be best for them. Buy one of these, figure it out and then go spend on pro gear later. You'll keep the VT40X, it's a great bedroom or livingroom amp.Rick

I have played the acoustic guitar for years and played in pubs and all sorts. I’ve never had an amp at home so have been looking at the right one for ages. You don’t need effects peddles to get started with this one – save your money it has many settings built in with the Tone Room app where you can save the effects not only within the Amp but within the app too. I have a Telecaster and I tried it on a few amps. Yes the Marshall CODE is excellent too so you won’t go either with either in what you finally choose, but this is just so much fun. The Valves – oh my, so when I was at school there was a dusty valve amp that I played on and I LOVED it turns out it was a VOX so obvs going back to what I played on at school. A lovely lovely piece of kit and amazing value for money. You can play it really loud and I bet great for a small gig or practicing, playing with others. Don’t know what else to say I am very happy with itCharlotte K.

Did lots of research. Went for this after a Fender Mustang I bought crashed twice the day I got it. First off this thing is loud if needed. Sound good at low volume too. A little tricky to program online but after a little practice it gets easy. 8 presets is plenty too. Only drawbacks are: no line out (just mic it), not Bluetooth capable for streaming in your tunes and programming the channels, and to connect to a laptop it needs a mini usb which is not too common these days. But overall very satisfied with this purchase. Oh and not made in China too is a plus.Steve

I pretty much ripped it out of the box, plugged it in, powered it on, went through the very quick and simple setup process, and in minutes it was ready for use. I’ve now had it for a few days and already it has made my life a ton easier. Being a musician that goes on the road a lot, carrying around an amp can be a huge hassle. The Kemper eliminates that hassle, while also maintaining an amazing tone. A few things to keep in mind, though:

1. It doesn’t create an EXACT carbon copy of your amp, but it comes EXTREMELY close, so close in fact that I, having played guitar for around 7 years, can barely tell the difference, and the very microscopic differences there are, are nothing that can’t be ironed out with small tweaking to the EQ, specifically the high end

2. The volume may vary depending on how the venue has their sound system set up, so that’s something to be mindful of. You may switch on and blow eardrums at some places, or you may switch on and barely hear anything in other places, so be mindful of that.

3. You will have an amazing tone, so just be mindful of that as well. Even the stock profiles sound great, but the Kemper is taken to a whole new level once you start using your own profiles, as well as commercially sold profiles, such as the ones from Tone Junkie.

The built in Performance mode also allows for a seamless switch between up to five different rigs at the click of a button, which would be impossible to do using only analog gear.

The Kemper can be a pretty big learning curve, though, especially for people like me, who have used analog gear for years, and were even leery of making the switch to digital at first. But after the initial learning curve and getting familiar with it, I promise you will be glad you made the switch.Brandon Johnson

I bought the 600w version after a ton of research and inner debate. I had solid state rack stuff in the early 90's and hated it. It always had something missing from the tone, it seemed shallow and fake. I turned into a die hard tube guy after that. I pledged never to buy any computer amp ever again. I dismissed the Kemper at first. But once I saw some videos and heard some profiles, I was a little interested. I couldn't get past buying a computer and having 1000's of tones at the turn of a knob. Once I heard it live, thru a cabinet in a rehearsal space, I was floored and very surprised. My friend went from a 68 Marshall to a 6505 to a Fender Twin Reverb with a turn of a knob in seconds. I've owned very expensive tube amps with very distinct tone signatures I thought could not be replicated. I was 100% wrong. I profiled my Engl head and did a blind test to see if I could tell the difference in tone once I shaped it up. I honestly couIdn't tell the difference. When I guessed, I picked the Kemper 4 out of 5 times. I went to the rig exchange and found a profile that was reasonably close to a 59 plexi. I tweaked it for 10 minutes. Within that 10 minutes, I saved thousands on a new tube amp. The Kemper is a perfect fit for the skeptic. There's a million forums and tutorials out there so you'll never feel lost. Once you learn the menus and how to dial in a tone or profile an amp, you're hooked. This is the most versitle amp I've ever owned. I am completely satisified.Rob

If you're fine with a solid state head, then fine. The modeling really isn't any better than higher end Line 6 modeling. This past labor day, Great White was playing a festival near by. They had a total of 8 Marshall 4×12's on stage with 4 DSL 100 heads. Not one of them was powered on. So I looked around for what they were going to use, I saw 2 Kemper Profiler heads. 1 for each guitarist. The sound was absolutely terrible. Neither amp sounded anything close to a Marshall or like tube for that matter. You could hear the cab emulation a mile away. At this price point go another direction. Unless your application is purely studio.guylemieux

This is a great product and really good value for money, very intuitive to operate. For me personally it just had no "warmth" at all, I tried everything to no avail and eventually sold it. I don't think my personal experience reflects the quality of the product.abghd23

Excellent modeler, but there is no documentation available. The included manual barely describes buttons and switches. No documentation at all available for the editing software. I have also found several bugs in the editing software. I have latest version of firmware and software. I'm pretty sure these will be fixed. If proper documentation was available I would have given 5 stars.Bruce B

If you are looking for a good practice amp modeler that is compact and has quite an array of effects and amps than the Pocket Pod should do the trick. I gig regularly and felt the Pocket Pod would be ideal for gigs where I didn't want to haul my tube amp around. Sound wise I'm not disappointed in hooking my pocket pod up to a sound board. However, where this product ultimately fails is there is NO On/Off switch! To activate the pod you plug your guitar directly into the input jack and it comes on. Once on you pretty much have to leave the guitar plugged in for your entire set or risk getting a loud pop through the PA system. And leaving the pod plugged in makes the pod get very warm and drains your batteries. I have a circuit breaker guitar cable so I can switch guitars without getting the dreaded pop in the PA system. I'm sure the people at Line 6 cut out the On/Off feature to save room. But I've never seen any piece of equipment that can't be turned off with a button. Satisfactory sounds but more headaches than it's worth for gigging musicians.O'neil Blues

Its great i love how it has all kinds of sffects and i can use both my guitar and phone as i play along. Great for portable playing so i dont have to bring the big head amp everywhere i want to take my guitar. Also the battery life is amazing if there's a new version of this i would so buy it.Hector

I already had owned the 60W version which has 2 channels. I wanted to leave the 60W at our band's practice space. This 15W version was perfect for home as the amp circuits were identical (except only 1 channel), effects identical, the only difference was power. I was able to dial in the perfect tone at home, at low volumes, and then take to our practice space for the higher volume amp and setup each channel that handles the majority of our songs. These Vox amps with their analog amp circuits (8 of them!) and tube pre and power amplification are awesome. Super affordable too.jax_music_supply

Rather disappointment with the short life span of my Valvetronix VT15, only 3 years in my living room. Are these gonna last any longer? My VT15 contacts; switches and input jacks seem corroded, not conducting electricity so well. I think they're made of Aluminum, that's what happens. Was fun for the 1st year. This is my first Vox amp. I had a VT20 but returned it for this amp. I found the tone of the AV15 very pleasing and quite powerful. It has a nice valve tone to it. I understand that it's only one valve, and that valve is used for both the pre amp and power amp. Nonetheless it sounds great. I was highly impressed with the tone I had after playing with the amp for several minutes. The 8" speaker does the job and is plenty loud for a bedroom setting. The dials are easy to understand and I got a nice tone quickly. The clean channels are quite nice and dirty up with gain and guitar volume. The crunch channels are my go-to right now and sound great. Nice breakup but yet controllable with guitar volume. The lead/HG channels actually sound really nice. I was able to get some nice palm muting rhythm with the High Gain channel with the gain at 12:00. I got some controllable feedback as well. I played with all the channels while using the channel volume at 100%. This 'overdrives' the power amp section and give a nice gritty tone to all the channels. The "power" level basically attenuates the 15w down to 0 if desired. I kept it at 12:00 in my bedroom and max when I used the line-out to my DAW. Even though this is not a full blown 8-tube power amp, it has a nice powerful tone that works in the bedroom/small gig setting and records nicely using the line-out. If you're going to gig then you need more watts from this unit and the bigger speaker. For my usage though it's perfect. Build quality is nice, no issues, all dials solid, all corners solid. The amp itself is about 16#, easy to carry. I understand it's not a 'real AC-30' but I didn't want to spend almost a grand on an amp. This one recreates the "Vox" tone 90% at 25% the price. I am very happy with my first Vox. Cons: Not counting the 15w and 8" speaker (I knew that when I bought it). Line out is .. weak. I had to max the volume to get a typical line-level signal. Would be nice to buy Made In UK.DS

It arrived a few days ago from MF. I want to highlight what I like about it without repeating the contents of its manual. Bottom line, for my usage replacing a Fender black panel Deluxe, a spring reverb, and a Tube Screamer, it is excellent. I am using the Vibro King amp model for most of my tweaking, but I also set up the Twin Reverb (super clean), Super Reverb, and Marshall JCM800 (crunch even with the guitar volume relatively low). The Twin model would not distort without a boost included in the "scene" even with my guitar and the model volumes at 10. That was the one anomaly from my expectations. I like the Vibro King model, amplified by my QSC CP8 (on the floor, on its side, backside EQ set to floor monitor), and do not prefer my now sold Tone Master Deluxe. The first thing I did was download the 2022-10-31 Firmware update and install it. Instructions to put the pedal in "DFU" mode to accept the update were missing. A YouTube video found via Google explained to hold both foot switches while powering up. Next, I installed the main NuX App for my Mac. I disabled the third "scene" such that the "scene foot switch" becomes a "scene" toggle (one cleaner, one with the Tube Screamer engaged, both with spring reverb). I then went through the amp models I planned to use (two "scenes" each, which must be done individually) and set all the controls to 12 o'clock. I tweaked the amp, spring reverb, and Tube Screamer to taste. I now have three ways to boost for an overdriven solo starting with the Vibro King as my clean base: turn up the guitar, foot switch to the Tube Screamer "scene", or foot switch to the JCM800 amp model. I explain all this detail because it took about an hour and without this work the pedal is disappointing. The software was almost easy enough to use without the nonexistent manuals (to do it again it would take much less time). Once done, everything can be adjusted via the knobs and optionally saved with the left foot switch. No menus to navigate at a gig. You can see in the pictures that it is quite small (Tube Screamer for reference), weighs exactly 1 lb. (less than that Tube Screamer), and draws only 3 watts. Leaving it run over night only gets it to room temperature. My old HX Stomp would have been hot to the touch and required a 20-watt power supply. Is it a Universal Audio quality Twin Reverb, Super Reverb, JCM800, or Vibro King modeler? Impossible for me to know. But for what I want, a classic black panel 60s Fender amp tone, spring reverb, and foot switchable Tube Screamer, it is a complete solution in a small package. No aspect of IO is missing (XLR, USB-C, ¼", 3.5mm, MIDI over USB). It also has an effects loop, graphic EQ, all the usual reverb types, 1024 IR loader, a selection of boost/overdrive/compression pedal models, and a noise gate which I've not tried. If one of the amp models is acceptably flat response you could use its 1024 IR loader, reverb collection, and compressor collection for your acoustic guitar too. Wow! What's missing? For my usage a master volume not associated or saved with an amp model "scene" would be nice. It does make a click when switching amp models or "scenes". Sometimes when switching amp models there is a noticeable delay.Jon

I've been playing guitar since a kid. My Dad used to own a guitar store where he was an amp technician. I'll always remember sneaking into his room when he wasn't home and playing his salmon pink Strat and Twin reverb amp. There was always a magic in them and they really inspired me. Fast forward 30 years and I've grown up just like him. Been playing professionally for a long time through some pretty nice gear but something in me always wanted to revisit that amp, it just had the perfect sounds I played lots of amps before choosing a Marshall 50w plexi as my amp of choice for gigging and it was good, no doubt a about that, played it for almost 15 years straight until one day buying that Twin I'd always so wished I also had. Found I played it far more than the plexi so actually ended up selling the Marshall and just sticking with the 65' reissue! It does everything the Marshall did and more I think. Playing them side by side before making the final decision to sell set my mind at ease because I couldnl get the same sounds from the Twin. Even did a little A/B recording with overdrive and no one could pick which one was which I play mainly classic rock and this amp is everything I'll ever need. Small wattage Amos always sound and feel small to me so was never interested in them, of it's too loud turn it down, the volume is far better than the plexi because that one sat on a hair trigger, really difficult to get a bedroom volume out of. The Twin is quote easy and pot smooth to use. Plexi goes from 0-almost full volume at half way to 1 on the dial. Love itJez

I received the amp yesterday and have only played it (both the vibrato and normal channel) for about half an hour in my living room, but I was so impressed that I wanted to go ahead and write a review, which I almost never do. I've been playing electric guitar almost 50 years and have owned many different amps, almost all Marshall or Fender, including a late 60s or early 70s 100 watt Marshall (no master volume), a mid 70s silver face Twin Reverb and Dual Showman, a 1987X 50 watt Marshall reissue, a '59 Bassman reissue (before the LTD version), a '65 Super Reverb reissue, a Twinolux, and a standard '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue. The only other amp I have currently is a wine red '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue (DRRI) with a P12Q Jensen speaker. The '65 DRRI has been one of my favorites. I like the 6V6 sound and I think it's hard to get a bad sound out of that amp. I really like the clarity of the 64 Custom Deluxe Reverb compared to my '65 DRRI. It is noticeably brighter than my '65 DRRI, but part of that may be because the '64 has a C12Q speaker while my current '65 DRRI has a P12Q speaker. Since reverb and vibrato work on both channels of this '64 Custom Deluxe Reverb, the vibrato channel is like having the bright switch on (it reminds me of the way my super reverb sounded with the bright switch on) and the normal channel is like having the bright switch off. I like the way both the reverb and vibrato work and sound on this '64 more than the '65 DRRI. The same guitar (a Strat with '69 custom shop pickups) has noticeably longer sustain when I play it through this '64 compared to my '65 DRRI. Some people have mentioned a possible problem with noise (hiss or hum) from this amp, due to the way the channels are connected together, but I hear virtually no noise at all from this amp, not when it is sitting still (with both normal and vibrato channels turned up to 3), and not when I turn any of the knobs. I wish I had bought this amp in the first place instead of the '65 DRRI.Kenneth

Just picked one of these and it's been a joy to play. Pretty easy to use with quite a few options. Was able to dial in some tones that sound like my $800-1k tube amps. Honestly this amp is the best bang for your buck amp available imo. I really love the Waza Craft Greenback speaker. I love the .5, 50,100 watt options. Haven't even explored the software yet but I'm confident enough in this amp to give it a 5 star already. This of course is keeping in mind the fact it's essentially a budget amp price. Sound: Right out of the box? I didn’t even adjust EQs. Set volume and gain, and started playing. Took 0 effort to get 98% of the way to my live tone that is an Orange Rockerverb 100W MK2 and Marshall 212 with V30s. Features: I love the Tone Studio. I did have to pull a star from Ease Of Use because it may be confusing if you’re not good with computers. Ease of Use: If you can’t get a good sound out of this amp, return it, sell your guitars, and find a new hobby. That’s how easy getting a good sound out of this is. Quality: Seems pretty decent. I wouldn’t call it robust, but it doesn’t FEEL as cheap as the price would suggest. Value: 100% worth the price. I’d have paid $100 more for it if I’d have known how good it would sound. Manufacturer Support: I’ve dealt with Roland/Boss in the past, and they’ve always been wonderful. The Wow Factor: Looks good, sounds good, price is good. A perfect practice amp, that could stand in for a small venue in a pinch. Naturally my live rig is a bit much for my apartment, but this is just what the doctor ordered. Overall: Solid state amps have come a long way. A REALLY long way. I’ll be honest, being a tube snob, I had very low expectations. I could have set the bar in the same area as I would a $2,000 and it still would have hopped it effortlessly.Kenny

I have played through the almost decade old THR10c, which is a fantastic little amp. Through a SM57 in front of it and out to the PA and you can sound great. But I thought that by now, with Yamaha buying Line 6 about 5 years ago, the newest version of this little amp would have some state of the art effects. Wrong! The effects, and the apps that control it are seriously out of date. I mean, the reverb, tremolo and chorus are fine. But they remain exactly as they did ten years ago. No upgrades and nothing fancy. The app is poorly designed and not that easy to use. and there is no way that I have found access the THR10C classic blues models all in one place. So its actually hard to get the classic blues and country sounds that I need all in one place. I went back to my THR10c and sold the new one.Bruce

dial in your sound in seconds not minutes, I look at it and then I want to play my best, those amp lights man, wow, dim the lights you will see. No instructions needed. if you need to move some Air for clubs shows or band practice this is not the one for you. What it does is creates a killer vibe for personal guitar growth, very organic and the tones? Man, you have got to play through it to believe it. It will cover any genre and crash most all the competition in the personal practice amp catagory. its about quality tones at lower DBI, it's not a marshal and it doesn't want to be. You can boot this sting up 3 at night and sound like your at an arena in your bedroom without waking up the neighbors and your flat-mates. No getting up or leaning over the amp to adjust setting like a marshal. No LCD's to mess with with or crummy menu diving. Traditional Bluetooth audio is pretty decent for using the amp speaker for guitar youtube vids and playing along instrumental tracks. Someone else said terrible sound, what??? you have got to be kidding me, id call that person an amateur guitarist. the biggest stars have these in the studio, tour buss and green room, hotel room. amazing for writing sounds, its the sound you have always wanted without going deaf sounds good anywhere. saves your hearing from the ringing. if you want to expand this sound on stage get the 30 which has proper outs for studio and stage, and re-amp it. leave it on a partially cleanish tone for your genre, then output to normal amp setup, the smiles will come. Of course many are still going to need their volume pedals but in a lot of situations, if you know how to gain control and then crank it for a lead/ chorus, (id drive it out to the mains / monitors for ramp) but it sounds amazing as you turn it up, the character truly changes, for the better. it's pretty wild. its pretty good about feedback. iv heard people hook these up on tour or use them in the greenroom preshow, it's that good. stick with the new models that are lighter and sound better. these are industry standard personal practice amps. again, if you are gigging you will need some sound reinforcement, but I would find a way myself, it's just not that hard to figure out. it's never fed back at me once and I'm jamming right infant of the cab on me desk. no surprise loud feedback sounds like other amps. small, light goes anywhere. probably need that case if you travel a lot. metal, country, hard rock, pop, blues jazz, hip hop, it nails it. the 30 could drive your current big amp. whatever magic is going on with the sound, full gain w guitar at full gain, is something that has to be heard not seen.J

Upgraded from the original cream colored THR10 after finding out that all three of the original THR10 amps (boutique, classic, and high gain) were consolidated in one amp and that the speakers underwent an upgrade (10W->20W). Sonically, the tones in this amp are superior to those of the original THR10, which makes practicing and playing very satisfying and inspiring. Note: Boutique and high gain amps can only be accessed through the desktop or mobile THR remote app. This isn't the case with the larger THR30 amp. All amp models can be access through the unit. The remote app also allows the user to change cabinets to further tweak tone. Here is why I rated this product 4 stars. * Mobile THR remote app crashes all the time. I've been using the remote app on my laptop exclusively. Yamaha rep informed me that this tends to be the case with iPhone users. Doesn't seem like they plan on fixing this anytime soon. * Setting the unit up as an audio interface was not clear at all. The original THR amps required downloading the yamaha steinberg usb driver and selecting this as your driver in your DAW. After configuring your MIDI and audio source in the DAW, you would then get sound. Well, that's not how it works on this amp. I reached out to yamaha after repeatedly getting errors from my DAW about the yamaha steinberg usb driver. Long story short, tech service couldn't figure out the issue and told me to request an exchange for a new unit at GC. After hooking up the new replacement, I got the same error. Turns out you have to download the ASIO THR10ii/30 driver on yamaha's site, not the most current yamaha steinberg usb driver. Select this driver in your DAW. Then you have to go into the app's settings and check the box for "record dry." Now you can configure your MIDI and audio source. I'm baffled about how yamaha's own techs did not know that the steinberg usb driver is not compatible with the THR10ii/30 amp.Ben G.

I've had this pedal for about maybe 5 months, great pedal. The best thing to do is to always read your manual because this particular pedal shuts off. That feature is to save you battery power, or just being on too long when you walk away. I hadn't gotten use to that at first. It pays to read the manual to figure out how to do it. But the Selections in where the layout is for the different tones, for rock and roll, blues, heavy metal, and R&B is it great pedal.astringmusic

It' easy to blow an afternoon exploring the wide variety of sounds this pedal can produce. While many of the effects are great there are quite a few duds mixed in there. You just have to play. There doesn't seem to be that much logic as to how the effects are grouped. You really need to write down your favorites. Out of 100 effects I think almost anyone can find 20 that they really like. It's a nice pedal as utility pedal for only needing the one effect. Enjoying the tremolo, reverb, flangers. You can set the effect to a preset (up to 24) and flip through them on the fly. Renaming the effect is a pain, having to use the dials! The distortion effects are weak but can be used with your dirty channel to be usable like using a fuzz otherwise it sounds thin and not usable. I'm not having any grounding issues and I have it powered through a pedal board brick. I have it running in front of an orange tube amps.BJ

About 100 pedals models for less than £100. Some in stereo and can be output in stereo or mono. Straight out of the box some models sound very good to me, I especially like the tremolos, some of the reverbs and delays. Also I quite like one of the chorus models (an effect that does not usually use) and one of the overdrives. Have to try tweaking the uni vibe and phasers but I'm sure there will be useable sounds in there My rating for sounds reflects my view that I find some bad and others excellent. It has plenty of features, is well made with a sturdy metal enclose, comes with its own power supply and is easy to use. All in all I think it is worth the price and worth considering if you want access a wide range of effects. Probably better for recording rather than using live.Reviewed by guitarguitar custome

This pedal is perfect for anyone who is running their complex delay/reverb/ambience stuff in an effects loop, but needs a 'swiss army knife' pedal for effects that need to go in front of the amp (distortion, wah, phaser, etc.). I was playing in the pit for our local HS musical last fall (they haven't had any electric guitarists…or bassists or drummers for that matter… in the student population for the last 7-8 years…I blame vocalist-centric reality TV shows….but I digress). The show was "Sister Act" and, unlike the R&B tinged '92 movie, the (2006) stage musical is all late 70's disco style. Needless to say, I needed a wah-wah pedal. Instead of shelling out the same amount for a decent 'one-trick-pony' wah pedal, I opted for this unit, as I have been looking for a multi-function 'in-front-of-the-amp' pedal for a while, and I already had an expression pedal for my keyboard. My expression pedal was the dirt cheap M-Audio plastic one that, according to Line6's own website, shouldn't work with this unit…except it did. Yes, even when toggling the "M-Audio/Other" switch on the underside of the pedal, at first It either didn't work at all, or worked backwards. But then, I discovered the genius programming built into this little gem. If you rock the EXP pedal either fullup or full down, you can manually set the heel/toe values for ANY of the 5 adjustable parameters in a given effect. SO…….In the tube/tape delay effect, for example, I have it set so the repeats, drive/gain, and "wow/flutter" all increase (each by individually set amounts) when I rock the EXP pedal from heel to toe. Add to that the fact that this is a dual stomp switch pedal with a dedicated tap-tempo switch, and you have an ultra-controlable delay unit. My only niggle is in the auto-wah/'tron' department. While they have a few dynamics-based filter effects models, only one is a dedicated Mu-Tron/envelope-filter type effect. What's more, since they only have the one model, and only 5 adjustable parameters, they decided to allot some of those 5 precious parameter knobs to things like "high-/low-/band-pass filter" and left out the crucial "sensitivity" setting. My rig is old-school; vintage non-master-volume amp + tube screamer + THD Hotplate. All my gain/distortion is controlled via my guitar's volume knob. The problem is, with no 'sensitivity' setting on the 'Tron' effect model, you only get decent results if your guitar volume is full up on or near 10. Unfortunately, most of the situations where you want to use this type of effect are with a relatively clean tone. But, since I can only get said cleaner tone by rolling back my guitar's volume, I don't have enough signal to trigger the wah effect. Instead of including some of the 'cool-but-of-limited-usefulness' models like "Comet Trails" in this section of the pedal, I wish Line6 would have had multiple 'Tron' models (high-/low-/band-pass) with sensitivity parameter adjustments all 'round. Full disclosure; what with my fore mentioned rig, I have not at all explored the distortion section of this pedal, and thus cannot comment on it's quality or lack thereof. I have at least dabbled in the modulation section, and done extensive exploration in the filter, delay, and Reverb sections, and found them all adequate to superior in tone and 'controlability' (OK, maybe not a real word…yet). And, c'mon, for $130? You really can't beat this!mikeoxmal

I could spend all day yapping about this pedal…In my travels i've tried countless pedals, but got tired of having 'too many' pedals. The weight, the time it took to hook it all up. I also busk, or play where electricity isn't available, and wanted a setup where i could make one trip with everything, and keep the weight down. I've always been a fan of ZOOM products, so trying out the Multistomp series was a no-brainer for me. The 50G met all my requirements, and exceed them all after i got one and started using it. Tones that are as good as any higher priced pedal, the versatility is second to none, and the price is killer for what this pedal can do. I would say the the Bluetooth version was my favorite, then the 70CDR, then the 50G, with the 50G's new 3.0 update, the 50 G is now my favorite pedal…period. The 50G started with maybe 50 patches, now it has 172, and best of all it has the Exciter patch, which to me is required on any pedal board. All i can suggest is watch the countless demo videos of this pedal. I would recommend this pedal for any level of guitarist, i would also recommend the MS-70CDR, watch the demo videos of the 70-CDR vs Strymons…amazing I cant say enough good things about the 50G, i believe it's near the perfect all around pedal. The Multistomp series are easily, in my opinion, the best bang for the buck pedals madeLocorogue

The MS-50G pedal is first class. It is every bit as clean, quiet, and well built as the Boss pedals. It is not a replacement for the Boss line. Zoom pedals have a character of their own. Personally, I like the Zoom tone. But I'm not a guitar player. There is a great ~15 minute YouTube instructional video for the MS-50G. I got over the learning curve for writing and storing effects by watching this video, then I bought pedal. It replaces several pieces of my high quality studio gear when I need fast results that are of high level audio quality. Zoom delivers with this product. After I watched this video I purchased the pedal. I also like my G1X as a companion to this pedal. The G1X has a nice volume/expression pedal.Sean

I needed something for my living room and practicing while watching TV late at night without a full pedal board or multi-effects box. This along with a Boss RC-3 and a mini mixer for my wireless headphones provides everything I have in my studio at a mini level. The sounds are good enough. There are enough options in sound to play most anything. Eventually I'll try this little beast as a sub for my full pedal board and see how it works in a live jam. One pedal to do everything. It's not perfect but it is great. I wish Zoom would provide updates to it and a better manager. It's pretty old by today's standards and if Zoom provided updated files they would sell even more if these great little boxes.
