This amp is fantastic. For someone that is so used to having different modellers, tube amps, multi fx and stompboxes this is now all I need. I've been meddling with allsorts kf gear for 17 years in my search for tone. I feel I am now at the end. Managed to dial in 4 very usable great sounding patches in minutes just using the front panel, something I've not been able to do with any amp or modeller in a while. It djents, it can do blues crunch, it can do straight rock grit, chimey clean, and just big standard chuggy metal very well. It's quite light, but when you turn up the volume you can feel air moving, like you can with a much bigger cab or with a valve amp. For a 1×12 it isn't boxy at all, very open sounding. The Waza speaker is very harsh in the top and highs to begin with when you first switch it on, but after a few hours use the speaker breaks in and the harsh highs all disappear. For someone that has always used Celestion V30's this Waza speaker is just amazing and I'm definitely leaving it as is! The dynamic response to picking and rolling your volume knob down is just how a valve amp responds – light picking = cleaner tones. Dig in with your pick and the amp comes alive. Fantastic all round amp, Boss really have nailed it with this one.
Just picked one of these and it's been a joy to play. Pretty easy to use with quite a few options. Was able to dial in some tones that sound like my $800-1k tube amps. Honestly this amp is the best bang for your buck amp available imo. I really love the Waza Craft Greenback speaker. I love the .5, 50,100 watt options. Haven't even explored the software yet but I'm confident enough in this amp to give it a 5 star already. This of course is keeping in mind the fact it's essentially a budget amp price. Sound: Right out of the box? I didn’t even adjust EQs. Set volume and gain, and started playing. Took 0 effort to get 98% of the way to my live tone that is an Orange Rockerverb 100W MK2 and Marshall 212 with V30s. Features: I love the Tone Studio. I did have to pull a star from Ease Of Use because it may be confusing if you’re not good with computers. Ease of Use: If you can’t get a good sound out of this amp, return it, sell your guitars, and find a new hobby. That’s how easy getting a good sound out of this is. Quality: Seems pretty decent. I wouldn’t call it robust, but it doesn’t FEEL as cheap as the price would suggest. Value: 100% worth the price. I’d have paid $100 more for it if I’d have known how good it would sound. Manufacturer Support: I’ve dealt with Roland/Boss in the past, and they’ve always been wonderful. The Wow Factor: Looks good, sounds good, price is good. A perfect practice amp, that could stand in for a small venue in a pinch. Naturally my live rig is a bit much for my apartment, but this is just what the doctor ordered. Overall: Solid state amps have come a long way. A REALLY long way. I’ll be honest, being a tube snob, I had very low expectations. I bought this amp based on the good print reviews and the way it sounded in you Tube reviews. I did a lot of homework and finally placed my order. I was excited when it showed up at my house and plugged my Jay Turser Les Paul copy right in. Boy, is this thing dark! I turned all the tone controls to 10. I changed the strings. I removed the covers from my pickups- that just made it dark and tinny. After three days I decided that I had to either send it back or make some changes. I took the speaker from a Squier 15 amp and installed it in the Bugera. Right away there was more life and clarity to the sound, though it still sounded tinny (because it's a speaker from a Squier 15), but it was some progress. Next I pulled tubes from a circa 1959 Curtis-Mathes console stereo and swapped them into the Bugera. Now we were getting somewhere- the overtones, the reason we use tubes, were now present and accounted for. The same console is full of Oxford speakers, which are a Jensen knockoff and well respected. I took an 8" from that and installed it in the V5. OH YEAH! Now this is a great little amp. The clean tones are super sweet, clear, full and bell-like with tons of sustain. The overdrive has a huge range of grit, and the reverb is better than any other amp I've had. So after installing a set of +/- 60 year old tubes and speaker, it sounds great. But out-of-the-box stock, I would have sent it back, no question. If you have a too-bright guitar or are willing to make upgrades, this amp is a super value. My one complaint about build quality is that the wattage selector switch is extremely touchy- it goes from .1 to 5 watts and has to be fiddled with to get it to stay on the 1 watt setting.Farmhand
This week I bought a duellist overdrive pedal from king of Tone, the Revival Drive from Origin Effects and this lovely little amp. The two pedals cost nearly £700 between them and the Bugera only £189 but my favourite tone comes from the Bugera itself largely because the built in attenuator allows you to really cook the single valves at pre amp and power amp stage without annoying the neighbours. This makes the Bugera a lot of fun. It’s tone control could be improved to raise the brightness but for the price I’m not complaining. This is definitely more of a British than an American tweed sound. And the addition of pedals – which it takes well – can potentially increase the brightness. The onboard 8 inch speaker is fine for practice and the amp is just about portable enough to use for travel. The speaker jack is accessible on the back panel, so it can be swapped easily for a guitar cabinet if you wanted to gig this machine or open up the sound (it’s 5 watts can still be loud enough for small venues). If, like me, you have been dependent on fender amps for home playing and you want a good alternative ‘Marshall’ sound at bedroom levels, then look no further!
Perfect at home tube amp. I generally use 1 watt mode. Great tone whether clean or breakup. Loves my telecaster and Boss BD-2 into it, and takes pedals great in general. Couldn’t get over how nice it looked when I unboxed mine, either. Beautiful looking amp on top of sounding great. Really an incredible value. But then I realized it would never sound as good as my Bugera does. I guess they call it tube emulation but IMO it's not quite there yet or at least Boss hasn't mastered it yet. Based on a friend's recommendation, I purchased a new Boss Katana 100 MK 2 in June 2021. The first thing that impressed me was it's power…it seemed to be a real 100 watts in a portable and lightweight package. I was able to dial in some useful tube-like tones right from the start with the clean channel. The Katana warmed up quickly to single coil or hum bucking pickups. The tone "variations" are also very useful for dialing in the right sounds to your liking. The delay adds the right amount of sparkle to your overall sound…very cool! Unfortunately, I was not able to get much help from the Boss Tone Studio when I downloaded it to the amp. (The response was: "Amp not connected"). Another disappointment is no Boss Tone Studio for iOS users…really guys? The required Boss foot switch is another issue…look online to see pedal "hacks" that use standard one-button or two-button formats. (Save a few bucks with a regular pedal). All in all: I'm very pleased with the amp. The line-in is a great feature to use with backing tracks along with the headphone jack for late night practicing. The basic amp tones has a realistic tube texture that reminds me of Marshall, Fender or Vox models.Scotty, M.
I have had the 50 watt for several months which is a great amp, but decided I wanted more foot switching options provided by the GA-FC controller. I figured if I was to buy the 100 watt it might as well be a 2X12. The 100 2X12 sounds awesome. And it is really loud to play at home even on the .5 watt setting. I'm tired of messing with tube amps and effect pedals so the Boss Katana series is just what I need. I have not dived in to the software and deep settings on either amp yet. These are apparently had to get. SAM Ash had it on backorder from Boss. The web and phone support at SAM Ash is great. Chris from phone support helped me complete the order and was super knowledgeable and helpful throughout. I was lent this amp from a pal before buying one. Really really like it. The vocals are superb and the guitar voicings are really handy. I play an uke, acoustic, semi acoustic guitar thru it and get a great sound. Recently got a Jazzmaster Single Coil and running this thru the amp on our mains get a hell of a lot of noise. I just used this amp at an outdoor gig lawn type affair, lots of people. Guitar and vocals. I dreaded dragging my PA system and all the stuff that goes with it so I just took the Cube. It gave plenty of coverage and good sound. I had no complaints everyone could hear me. No I was not blowing the solo cups off tables but it was plenty loud enough. And to mention I was loaded in and out in no time. I felt like I was forgetting something. (I used the pedals I usually use for guitar and my Boss simple harmony pedal that has effects also). Use the guitar setting on the amp and then play with the volume and gain knobs to get your desired volume. I had the 50 watt one long time ago but never needed the full 50 watts and it was heavier. Overall: This amplifier absolutely rocks! With so many options you can dial in any sound that you want, from crystal clear clean to roaring rhythms and screaming leads. As everyone has already said, the reverb is almost nonexistent. However, the amp, tubes and build are rock solid. BUT… if you really want to blow your mind, swap out the speaker with one that fits your style. My style is classic hard rock so after much research I swapped out the 70 watt Celestion V-Type speaker that it comes with for a 150 watt Eminence Swamp Thang and I swear that it sounds as loud and ballsy as my full-on DSL100 full stack with 1960 cabs. The difference is mind boggling. No fizz, no speaker distortion at all. Just a loud, clear representation of my sound. Obviously the Swamp Thang might not be your speaker of choice but do your research and this will be the only amp you will ever need again!Scott
Sound: With good tubes properly biased, yes. Features: One feature that I absolutely detest is the effects loop button. When it is activated the front of the amp ceases to operate and when deactivated, the front works but the effects loop deactivated. There's no reason for this feature to exist. Substantially limits what the user is able to do. Bad decision in the design. Ease of Use: Just need to fix the owners manual to include specifically how to bias the tubes. Value: At the time I bought it, it was around $800. So at that time, yes. Overall: It took me a while for this amp to grow on me as it sounded like crap out of the box. I replaced the stock speaker with a Celestion V30 and replaced the stock tubes with Ruby EL34STR and a 5751 in the PI as is my typical configuration. Still couldn't get an acceptable tone was fuzzy and grindy. Years later, I learned that you can self bias the amp. After reading forums, there is little info on how to bias the amp and nothing in the manual. I discovered the bias was at 31mv so I turned both to 40mv and HOLY SMOKES this was the tone I've been seeking all these years. Eureka, I found it and it's incredible now. Completely unacceptable that Marshall included zero information in the manual regarding this, which is a pretty important feature. Moreover, it's important that I explain how to bias this. When you place the multimeter leads in the ground and point, one point will give a reading and the other red test point will read zero, always. YOU WILL NOT BE USING THIS TEST POUNT AT ALL. Go back to the one that gives the reading and keep it in that test point and adjust the pot to 40mv. Then, keeping the multimeter lead in the same pot, turn the other bias adjust til they both read 40mv. Next onto the effects loop, there is a button to turn the effects loop on and off as you can not use both simultaneously like in other amps. What good is this feature? Worthless and is an absolute thorn in my side as I would like to use the midi to switch between both which is why I bought it, but can't. Now, the amp does sound good now that it's properly biased as well as replacing the stock speaker, but I lost years of good tone due to the lack of instruction in the instruction manual.Jonathan
Overall: This thing is awesome if you like that Marshall tone this amp is for you, it's really a 4 channel amp if you get the six way Marshall foot switch, if I had to nit pick this amp would be the reverb, don't get me wrong it sounds great and is useable for 90% of what you would need it for, but if your wanting that Gilmour type reverb you'll need to add a reverb pedal in the chain. Where this amp really shines and I discovered this on accident I was messing around with the effects loops and added an EP booster which I would normally run on the front in, and just WOW…adding the EP booster to the loop really opened it up, tamed some of the compression and evened out the gain while improving the tone, sounds more like a JCM800 at this point, I'm super impressed with this little amp and I have some really nice amps in my collection. Let me say I would totally gig with this amp without question. This fact that Marshall made it easy to change and bias tubes is a huge thumbs up as well. Other manufactures please take noteRick

I use this in my basement studio for playing and recording. It has a wide range of very cool sounds and what seems like countless options to combine them (from wild reverb/delay effects to overdrive/fuzz). It's kind of daunting to get a setting you like and remember how to get it again, because of all the combinations of setting options. This would be a great value in a small amp except for two things: 1. Lots of extra noise and hiss (I checked and it wasn't the guitar or cables – I tried several) 2. The "on-off" button doesn't always work when trying to turn it off. I usually have to unplug the 9V adapter that comes with the amp in order to turn it off.Russell

I have a Marshall 412 cabinet with a 100 watt Marshall head. I needed a smaller amp to practice at home and for small jam sessions. I picked the Marshall MG15FX because I know and like the Marshall sound and quality. The Effects features sound good too. I bought the footswitch for it too. This amp sounds good and powerful enough for any small jam or studio work. Marshall makes a MG30 if you need more power.Max
I really like this amp. I don't have to turn up the master volume very much for it to get loud enough. I plan to hook up a Line 6 Pocket Pod for heavier distortion and more effects options. I'm a big fan of delay and am happy with the delay that comes with this amp but I did get a Boss DD-8 digital delay pedal and it works well with this amp. I previously had a cheap 100 watt amp but it only sounded well at low volume. I feel this Marshall amp is better quality and I am glad I got this one.Ferdad
i use this fun little amp at home to practice and jam. sometimes with friends. i've have owned fender and peavy practice amps and this Marshall is just as good or better. i like the clean and various overdrives..the effects do a good enough job and really like the two different reverb effects. i like the headphone option for keeping the neighbors and girlfriend happy when playing late night. i play a Epiphone Les paul traditional pro iv and the combonation sounds super for hard rock and blues but i needed to get a heavy metal pedal for metallica songs. wish it had a longer plug in cable. but over all it sounds really good for what i payed.. ;owned it for two years and keeps on rocking.rob

You know, to get the tube/valve sound, one has to crank the amp and that can hurt the ears and upset your family and neighbours. Not any more. This amp still sounds and feels great at 80-85db in 0.1watt mode when you are at home. That is still loud for a night practice though and the amp can go as loud as 100db in the 1watt mode, which is very loud in a small room. The combo sounds surprisingly full with plenty of bass. Quality sound and feel at lower volumes. I also like the reverb, first half sounds like a mix of spring in amp and hall type and when the reverb is dimed, it sounds similar to overdriven spring in amp reverb type. The Emulated out works and sound alright but playing through the speaker is a lot more inspiring and I'd recommend micing the amp for recording and also for practice with a band. The controls have good range. And the combo is well built with sturdy Marshall handle and looks class, I really like it.
Went for this as my first valve amp for room playing. Definitely an upgrade on sound over my 20w fender solid state amp. Would be nice to have a dedicated gain knob for the clean channel and/or presence adjustment, though within its price range it has the best value for money as it has dual channel and an fx loop. Clean sound was fantastic, the amp felt well built and looks the part. Included footswitch was metal and felt really good. Reverb was good, for a built-in effect. However, even at 0.5W I just couldn’t dial in a crunchy/blues tone I liked. At louder volumes I could get it to break up nicely. I returned the amp, as I’m a bedroom player and needed something I was happy with at lower volumes. If you can open it up a bit more, this amp was excellent.Joe A.

i've been playing for a year some and this is the only amp i've had.it was great at first because i didn't know what a good amp sounded like and was a begginer , but now I HATE IT. The overdrive channel sounds horrible, it's like a really cheap crunch barley even distortion. the clean channel's alright nirvana unplugged ,nothing else matters and stuff like that sounds alright. there are some good things about the amp though, it's built to last very solid, the mp3 jack and headphone jacks are a really nice feature ( distortion sounds way better with headphones but still not great) and i'm sure the distorion would suit some classic rock and blyes player but i mostly do metal and it's HORRIBLE for it. do yourself a huge favour and get a line 6 spider IV or something insteadI hate this amp-1-ZIV

The luxury of having a small, reliable amplifier that's loud enough for small gigs is incredible. I run it through a small, closed-back 1×12 cabinet. There's not a TON of headroom, but it can EASILY be heard over a drummer, even if the drummer is loud. Its natural tone is bland as can be, so it's best to use an equalizer pedal, and possibly even a compressor pedal to make it sound a bit more tube-like if that's your schtick. Here's the bottom line: you buy this product for convenience. It's not a recording amp. You buy it because you can get it from gig to gig easily. Because you don't want to hurt your back or worry about your tube amp dying on you. Because it sounds just good enough. Practically speaking, you don't need more power than this. If your gig is big enough for you to need more headroom, your gig probably has a PA system that you can mic your amp into. I have owned a Boss GT-100 and searching for good fit for my amp models. I use a custom made birch cabinet with a Celestion Vintage 30 G-12 and wanted to capture that specific speaker sound with the excellent amp models I get on the GT-100. I have tried going direct into stage monitors and mains which did not have that tube warmth going in to a Marshall DSL15H which added the tube warmth but, colored the sound. I did my research and was ready to shell out a lot of money for a tube power amp until I stumbled on this little jewel. Not only is louder than I really need so what I get head room. It also has the tube amp sag and the break up where it is need and contrary to other opinions the 44 Mag can get downright clean. I am trying it out on gigs this weekend and I am sure from what I have heard in my studio that it will perform. Great for modeling amp applications best practices is to lower down the patch level and crank the 44 Mag to get the most out of it.
First off, the base clean tone of this thing is very not bad. Well-rounded & full bodied. However, the base tone will be disengaged of powering a preamp-type pedal. I use a Diezel VH4 overdrive pedal with the 44 as a preamp/power amp setup, and I like the tone as much if not better than any solid-state amp head out there. But if you're trying to get tube punch out of it, a 212 cab is about as much as you can push before you start losing oomph. It will drive a 412, but you'll lose some punch along the way. A great fly rig solution if you like showing up with a guitar and a pedalboard & using a house cab, or a no-brainer if you tire of hauling too much gear.Ninja Joe

Open the box, tested with a Katana 2×12 cab, sound was awesome. Same goes to a Laney 2×12 but sounded much more better. Considering the size of the Amp1, the Nanotube is a real deal. Drives is authentic. Growls like the full tube amp head. Cleans nicely from high to low gain. Tried again with a Yamaha powered speaker and speaker out to a BluBox, cuts through with the band easily. Overall: I've been looking for portable, potent, Plexi and then some Marshall tone and kept trying little modelers. Most sounded fine, but I struggled to get them right. I have so many great Plexi sounds…and then some…in my Kemper, but wanted something to fit in a gig bag. I remembered having seen Jack Gardiner's video about this and LOVING the sounds he got. When I played this at NAMM 2020, Hall D was just too loud to really appreciate it. But I remembered liking it. So I ordered it. Wow! Let me tell you, I like it so much I just ordered the Remote1 switch for it to use it for more than just a travel option! This thing sounds phenomenal!More often than not, clean channels sound like afterthoughts. This amp has a beautiful clean channel and when combined with the boost gives you excellent, chimey, pushed clean and Vox-like tone. Henning Paulie had Thomas Blug on and they got really close to his Morgan AC30 style amp. Frighteningly close! Well, it really does it! And the dynamics of this amp are incredible. Even with the boost engaged, I can roll the volume down and clean up the vintage and classic channels nicely! I have a lot of amps. This hangs with the big boys easily. And it takes pedals as well as any big amp. I am so happy I can stop looking for a plexi for my gig bag. zZounds has a great return policy. It won't hurt to try it. 13. Marshall Dsl5c 1×10 5-Watt 2-Channel Tube Combo Guitar Amp

Modded a bit but in great working order. a transformer “choke” has been added to better filter line noise and improve overall quality vs the original resistor that was used. the bright cap has been clipped on the classic gain channel to remove a lot of the shrill high end. the bright cap on the ultra gain channel has been changed to better match the classic gain channel. also, the cabinet has been modded to fit a 12” wgs vet30 speaker; however, i’ve removed that speaker and installed the factory 10” speaker. in order to fit the 12”, i had to cut a slot in the bottom of the cabinet that goes all the way to the bottom tolex. there was a small hole that poked through but i ca glued it back with saw dust to strengthen it. a small amount of ca glue is visible on the bottom, as shown in the pics. it has 3 jj preamp tubes and a tad power amp tube.

I recently bought a Fender Blues Jr NOS and was quite happy, good natural clean and grind. Takes both pedals and my X3 Live outboard gear very well, but I was hoping for an amp that had the clean and the hard rock tones without needing to schlep a distortion pedal or my X3 Live. I bought an HT-5R used at MF's sister company hoping it would meet my needs. First, the HT-5R can be very loud. It also has a decent clean, pure for my EMG 60 and a nice blues edge with my EMG 85. The test of any amp is how it handles the hard rock or metal tones tho and the HT-5R falls sort of short… until you add the required Decimator G String Noise Reduction and BBE Sonic Max thru the effects loop. Those two outboards save this amp without running pedalboard effects. Just know, the BBE and G String are not needed nor are they compatible with the X3 Live, the thing buzzes like crazy when I run the X3L thru it with the BBE and G String. The X3 Live sounds great without them tho. I don't have any other modeling/multi-effects systems so I do not know if the Boss ME-70 or similar items are compatible with the BBE or Decimator thru the HT-5R effects loop. I also tried hooking up my Haze 112 straight cab as an external along with the internal speaker, sounds very fine. These two brands of speakers probably play better together than the two companies. Bottom line… I can run this amp without a distortion pedal on the clean channel unless I want crunch (I do). The OD channel doesn't need a distortion pedal but only sounds real when I use BBE and Decimator. I can also use the X3 Live. Both setups can produce awesome results. By itself? Not so much… but I'm still keeping mine for grab and go and gigs with small stages, but I'm keeping my Fender Blues Jr NOS too for when I'm willing to bring my pedal board or X3 Live along.Travisty7
Kind of puzzled by the negative reviews of this bad boy but to each his (or her) own I guess. The Blackstar HT-5R to me is a fantastic little amp. It is solidly built and delivers tube warmth & punch that digital amps can't touch. It's simple layout allows for a versatile array of quality tones without slamming the user with option overload. There are lot of well-thought out features one doesn't usually find on affordable small tube amps such as the excellent emulated output and an FX loop. The clean channel is very serviceable. It's not a mind-blowing Fendery clean but it is very clear and is very responsive to difference guitars and pickups. If you are a country guy, don't bother. If you like gain, keep reading. The star here is the Overdrive channel. There is lots of gain on tap, plenty for most rockers and classic metallers. The tone is a little more rock than pure metal – the palm mutes are reasonably chunky but you won't get Pantera chug without a boost pedal. This is true for most high gain tube amps though, that's why so many bands and producers rely on Tubescreamers to tighten things up. I get a killer warm tone straight onto the amp at any gain level. After setting the gain anywhere above 5 and flicking on my TS-9 (set to zero gain and a just a slight level boost), this thing turns into a fire-breathing crunch machine! Tasty metal riffs abound. The HT-5R is highly recommended for anyone looking for a punchy, rockin' amp for home use or in the studio.Juice Maloose
This amp is a little gem. It pretty much covers all angles from Bedroom practice to Studio, Rehearsal and Live Gigging. With many sound setups in venues using monitored sound systems the requirement for loud backline Amps is a thing of the past and gigging with one means basically not being able to play it at any volume above number 2. A small , but powerful amp with both the monitoring capability and the Emulated MIC capability to go straight into a Desk means that you can have the best of both worlds if needed. You can play it on stage a reasonable volume or you can play through the monitoring if needed. The channel switch and Cab / Speaker options mean you can setup the whole for bigger things if you want to carry the Cabs about with the option to plug in extension speakers galore. The Reverb is smooth, Roomy to Arena and the ISF gives you tonal variation that allows great contrast. If you want a negative… well the sockets on the back are all hidden under the edge of the back panel making them hard to find in the Dark and the foot switch cant be dropped into the back of the Amp for storage…but thats about it! small price to pay for a great piece of Kit.daveperrym2

Every guitar player on God's green earth should have one. The different tones offered with the app inspire you to play differently. It allows you to play along with the songs you love, and download the tone. It also tells you the chord progression to the song. It's an amazing Amp, and if nothing else the GREATEST speaker in the world. I could absolutely ruin my neighborhoods night with the most absurdly clear version of my favorite songs. But I could Also practice at midnight with out waking up my roommates using my headphones.

As a practice amp, you will soon lose interest if the tone is thin, boxy and generally sounds like crap. The Spark is none of this. An incredibly wide range of tones are available via the app with sounds that you just don't expect to come from such a small package. The sound is loud, rich without the boxiness that you seem to get with amps loaded with small speakers. If you've used PG's Bias software, you'll be in very familiar territory – great emulations that have a depth that rivals some of the serious modelers available now. The effects, while not giving you a massive selection, supplies pretty well every type of effect you would ever need. The reverbs and delays are particularly good and while more than good enough for noodling at home, are more than up to the task of recording. The unit is quite sturdy with a timber cabinet and looks great – very traditional with an "English" type of styling. Using the Spark as a Bluetooth player for music is more than up to the task – good bass, clean mids and treble and loads of volume. The app overall is very good with some truly inspiring practice opportunities, though the function where the app analyses your playing and constructs a suitable backing track is hit and miss and is probably the weakest part of the app. Bluetooth connection for both control functions and audio playback is stable and very quick to pair with your device. Overall, I don't think you will find and amp sounding this good with the flexibility and functions available, from anywhere else and that is before taking into consideration, the extra functions the app gives you.Mick G.
I bought this amp on the back of all the rave reviews on YouTube etc. For me, it's just not a finished product yet. It feels very "beta". The hardware seems robust and of good quality. The modelled sounds are very good, albeit very bass heavy. But most of that can be EQ'd out. There are several problems I couldn't live with, and had to sell it on. The hum problem which is due to the supplied, un-earthed PSU was very apparent in my example. I contacted Positive Grid support about the issue in December 20, and as of selling the amp at the start of March 21, I had not yet received the replacement PSU. There are temporary workarounds, but I wanted the problem sorted permanently. As said above, the sound is very bass heavy. The amp models' EQ can be used to deal with the guitar tone, but music playback through the unit via Bluetooth has no EQ control, so the sound quality is very poor. In addition to this, the playback level is far too high. When using as a Bluetooth speaker it is very difficult to get the volume low enough using the tiny trim pot volume control for comfortable listening when sat in close proximity to the unit. The Auto Chords feature is a gimmick and needs serious work. It only works for E standard guitar tuning. For example, when listening to a song in dropped standard tuning such as "Yesterday" (guitar tuned down one whole step) Auto Chords will show fingerings for F, Em, A7 etc instead of the G,. F#m, B7 shapes that are required. At the very least, a "transpose" button is required to allow for dropped standard tunings that are very common. When using the tuner, you have to look at the lights on top of the amp. The app should have a screen that displays the tuner on your connected device when in use. The app metronome tempo can only be set by tap. It should have the ability for the user to enter the exact required BPM by inputting the figure required, or selecting the tempo with up and down or + and – controls. All of these niggles were too much for me to live with. Hopefully Positive Grid implement the changes in future releases, but I won't be buying Spark again until they do.Paul

You can play it without any problem with 1×12 even at an apartment~!! Hell… I dare to say I would be able to run it with my 2×12 v30 at apartment @ 0.1W I am using it currently @1W/full power with 2×12 v30 and it works beautifully. The amp is rather bright and harsh so it's nice to tame it with some darker cab and speaker/s. My Mesa type 2×12 brought it to normality quite well. I am really glad that Marshall offers this amp for this price. The price of a modeller/multieffect you can have a real full valve amp~!! + definitely scratch the itch of having a real valve amp experience + 0 latency = the notes are sticky to your fingers, if feels like… I don't know… the sound just pops right out from the underneath of your fingers. The playing is very effortless. You do not have to overcompensate with your pick attack or whatever because the dynamics and springiness of playing is just surreal. One of the reasons why playing modellers/pluggins/ is a chore most of the time for me… It just lacks that easiness of transfering what you want to do with the sound. Playing with this amp feels like you are the one with the guitar amp and speaker. No bs in-between. + you can play whatever you want and you don't need anything else really… + I still fight of buying a delay pedal because I don't really need it… I don't really need anything else to be honest… I have all the gain I need, two channels + simplicity… I leave my equalisation @ 12/noon and don't even touch it… I just just volume/gain knobs and that's it = ideal practice tool + sometimes I practice for a few hours straight in high temperatures = +-29* @+-40-60% humidity. Zero problems. + looks amazing + foot switch included, speaker cable as well~!! – I am a fan of Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Rev. G = fat, muddy, wide, bassy… tone… This ain't it. It's Marshall back to back and unfortunately it will never fill that gap… – eq on red/ultra gain channel doesn't really do much. I mean it does… but you can't really add more bass to it because it is voice that way… It's just Marshall I guess – I wish it didn't have a digital reverb (it could be gone for what I care). It just ruins the all valve vibe to it/ I can only think of Bugera G5 that can detrone this amp from it's glory. This I will find out in July hopefully 🙂 MusicStore, professional as always.
Since I was teenager I always wanted old school Marshall tube amp. And this little guy made a dream come true. Clean channel is lovely a'la JCM800 sound – very bright and articulate (I simply LOVE it). Ultra gain provides a lot of gain and more modern distortion – imho will be enough to play thrash/heavy/power metal. It's not the cheapest in 1W league – but it's worth every penny.
Fantastic little amp. This is the tone I’ve been looking for, at volume levels I can manage in my living room. I’ve got it running through a Marshall 1×12 cab and the sound is amazing, even on the 0.1 setting. Lovely cleans with a rich natural break up on channel one, and wonderful crunch through to screaming distortion on channel two. Pair this baby with a Les Paul and you’re in heaven.
