Best Flamenco Guitar Strings (2024 Update)

Could not believe how quickly the strings were delivered. Very pleased with strings – bright trebles and a nice bass tone too. I normally use Augustine Reds or Savarez but thought I would try La Bella for a change. I will definitely be using La Bella strings againtrevoloc65

A bit awkward to fit, like all nylon strings. Why they don't make them with a moulded loop at one end, I don't know. But they give a bright tone. Slightly lacking in the richnes required for Flamenco, but with the greater clarity required for classical.kevin6317

These strings have such a lovely feel about them. Great tone too, very much the flamenco sound which they claim to be. Soon as I put these on my very old Ricardo sanchis flamenco guitar the guitar came alive !peterathbones

These hard tension strings give the more 'crisp' sound normally associated with Flamenco guitars. I have tried much more expensive strings but can never get the trebles to give that sharp staccato sound like these La bella hard tension ones do. The black nylon trebles seem to do the trick. I'm a senior citizen jammer, having played guitar ever since Peter, Paul & Mary were young. These guitar strings have been my favorites for many years. Recently I tried some others, simply because I wasn't in an area where these were sold. I noticed the difference right away, and so did my fingers! The Elixirs are recommended for my Taylor GS Mini, and for good reason. I've had them last for years in the past, and now that I'm playing more than ever, I change them quarterly. They are superb strings and easy on the fingers, so I recommend them highly.NikiRoo

Fat Sound, my local dealer stack up these exclusively over the 80/20 because they sound so good. They are luthiers I trusted for many years for advise. If you want get add some boldness to your acoustic guitar, try one of these. They are probably the best sounding acoustic guitar strings from Elixir. I tried these briefly on my Taylor DN3. It came equiped with Elixir Nanoweb 80/20. When it was time to stock some replacements, my local dealer had only the Elixir Nanoweb Phosphore Bronze and argued that they sounded better on Taylor guitar because they have warmer tone. It turned out they have a great tone and are very lound and very well projecting, but unfortunately, the tension is much higher then the Elixir Nanoweb 80/20 of the same gauge, and it made my studio guitar sound like a folk guitar. Sincde I did not want to mess with the near prefect factory setup of the DN3, and I prefered the Studio tone of the 80/20 over the Folk tone of the Phosphore Bronze, I decided to go back to the 80/20. But that doesn't mean they are not good strings. They are in fact better sounding in many ways then the 80/20, but I the 80/20 just suites my taste better with this specific Taylor DN3. The Phosphore Bronze strings have huge and clear mids, and a lot of high mid harmonics. Yes they have much more tension then the 80/20, and would probably require neck adjustement when switching from 80/20 to these, but the bold and forward folk/blues tone pays back for that small sacrifice. They have much more harmonics then the 80/20, and the high E string is not too bright. The first thing I noticed with these strings was the fact that the High E string was not lean, but rather fat and well defined. . However, compared with the 80/20, the lows are a bit overwelmed by the bold mids. Which is not bad at all, it's just that my DN3 has a clean and well defined low end with the 80/20, which is not as noticeable with the Phosphore Bronze. My next guitar will probably be more for Folk and will have these strings.Pierre-BJnej

Put these on a bright, shimmering guitar that had old strings maybe a year or more and put on these Elixir Nano supposed upgrade by suggestions at my local guitar center and immediately took them off an put the old strings back on! These are dull, muffled sounding dead resonance producing strings. They SUCKED compared to old di Addario strings? Waste of time and money. I use the coated EXP45 normal tension strings on my Guild GAD-C2NA classical guitar. This is the guitar I travel with and use for most fingerstyle applications. I reserve my Ramirez E4 for local classical performances. The bottom 3 strings have great definition and stay within a few cents of concert pitch for several months. The top 3 strings are the same nylons from the EJ45 set. They may drop 20 cents overnight, but tune right up and stay in tune while playing. This set has a respectable classical tone but is a little brighter than the EJ45 Pro Arte set. They are fantastic if you are playing and singing popular and rock songs along with a few classical favorites. You can beat on them with rougher technique and they hold up and sing out. The EXP45 set only puts about 81 lbs. on the neck as compared to 86 lbs. for the EJ45 set. The lighter feel makes them very versatile and reduces your fatigue. The D'Addario claim is true: The composite core bottoms really do last 3-4 times longer. With a lot of practicing and performing, I can burn through an EJ45 set in 1-2 weeks. I've changed EXP45 sets at 2 months for a gig and have not really needed to. The windings will show some wear, but the bottoms are still staying in tune. The coating pays off if you don't always remember to wipe down the strings and fingerboard after playing.There are some who call me...Jim

I recently purchased a used classical guitar and gave it a set up, replaced the strings. That's when I purchased these EJ45's….Took almost a month for the strings to stop stretching. Would not stay in tune !! Maybe drop these in some boiling water like E.V. used to do to his strings to stretch them out..?? THE BAD….I thought it was the tuners (machine heads) on the guitar and almost purchased a new set. I've used the red package normal tension with no issues, I will not buy the EJ45 again. While my guitar was just sitting on the stand the G string starting to unravel and eventural just broke…THESE STRINGS ARE A WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME !GhostGrappler

I am accustomed to subtle differences between acoustic guitar strings by various manufacturers, but those differences can seem less apparent with classical guitar strings. However, D'Addario's Pro Arte classical strings are clear standouts. My guitar never sounded better, to the point of sounding like a brighter and more resonant instrument. I'm hooked.Ronnie

tried these normal tension strings – a little easier to play – good trebles, good base strings – sound about the same as the Cantiga High Tension strings – maybe a little louder – Have them on now so don't really know how they will hold up 'til another month or so – sound very nice!!Den

I’ve used these Santa Cruz Mid Tensions for 4 string changes now on both my D18 and D35 and I continue to be impressed. I don’t think it’s just a marketing gimmick as these strings produce a more balanced and full sound than regular phosphor bronze sets. It’s a more mellow sound right away, almost like Monel strings. These have a great feel under the fingers as well. Great product!Michael M.

These are fairly typical strings in that the quality and sound are on a par with other brands, what sets them apart is that the gauges are perfect and flatten out that tension hump in the middle of the set. These are essentially 11-52s with a beefed up first and second string so if you prefer a softer feel on the wound strings but a bit more resistance in the trebles, these will do the trick.Paul B.

My classical requires ball end strings. I have tried every different brand of less expensive strings, and most are great. However, these are exceptional. I hate having to spend forty clams for two sets of strings, but Sevilla are the best. I have had to return some before because of tarnish, and I have broken new strings before, which makes me so mad. Yet when everything goes according to plan, the tone, the feel, and the warmth are unsurpassed. In addition, my current set has been on for about a year, and are still awesome. Peace.pipe925

I love the tension on these string. They feel tight but don't pull hard on the neck like high tension strings. The diameter of each string is almost indecernable making the intonation much more acurate even after 1 month of playing at least 3 hours per day. They do take a couple days to break in and feel a bit wierd at the start but once broken in seems to keep their tone, intonation, playability for longer than most strings in this genre. Only drawback is that they are brittle and if you don't wrap a prop knot they will break at the bridge.Diggs

I always used martins and black diamonds. My black diamonds got higher and i saw these strings and thought why not? So glad i did these coated strings sound and feel amazing. These will decently be my sting of choice from now on.thrashedandlost

I've been playing the same classical guitar for over forty years. The wrapped treble Savarez are my only choice. None better. They "stick." They're true. They deliver every time. Someone advised not to trim them. Boy, is that ever true. If you trim them…or pull on a frayed end…they'll unwind themselves and pull free. Very light tension and very responsive. Now I can barre with my index finger with little of effort. Strings 4, 5, 6 sound great. Strings 1, 2, 3 sound just OK, and they produce slight rustling sound when my fingers move between the frets. They also make rustling sound when I pick them using my bare fingers (no nails). With a regular pick they sound better but still not as clear and sweet as my previous set.SAP

I have tried both these sets of strings on a Gibson Chet Atkins CE – EJ45s looked and felt to big for the guitar especially the G string, I then replaced them with the 520Bs which not only look great they play remarkably well.rhodesre_123

I have used others that I will not name, but this type of string (Savarez 520 R) fits very well with my playing style (Classical). They move and respond harmoniously together! Bright and clean! No muffled sounds! Each string vibrates in a wide sweet spot! Easy to tune, easy to play. I have them on my Alvarez Classical Guitar. I use the Savarez 520 J on my La Patrie Concert Classical guitar. I've used probably every kind of stings out there and always came back to these. And not just any les paul strings, the signatures. They are extra light on the treble end for bending and thicker on the bass side for more volume. Les picked these himself and they will make any cheap guitar sound good. They are so smooth you will be amazed. Many strings I play with feel like sandpaper compared to these. And the best part is they come vacuum sealed so they have an indefinate shelf life, so stock up! Red silk stockings? Not the wrong review, stay here. These strings have a wound ball end dressed in red silk, just for show? NO they help anchor the string, they help to prevent slippage of the windings and they look fantastic. These strings are not cheap but you do get what you pay for. They sound great and have a high degree of corrosion resistance – I have never broken one. Apart from my Strats and my Tele I use these strings on all other guitars. If you have a guitar costing hundreds if not thousands of pounds why would you put cheap strings on it? They are getting very rare so buy a set now and try them.cerieds1957
