My Mitchell MS450 (single cutaway LP style guitar) came with D'Add's, which sounded decent. When I switched them out, I went with the GHS 10's on a hunch based on things I've heard. Great move! Nice, brilliant tone, rings out for eternity if you let them! I used 11's from D'Addario for years and I would break a string consistently for every show that I played. I do not know why I kept with D'Addario for so long. I figured I needed to have a heavier string gauge for durability and better tone. Searched around and came across these strings in the heavy gauge, and I could not be happier with them. These strings have great sustain, are durable, do not corrode as quickly as other brands I have used in my professional career playing music, and, despite their heaviness, are easy to play in standard tuning. Along with playing well with a pick and fingers, these strings also sound terrific when playing slide. You can get the same great tones out of these strings that Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks have with their lighter gauges, as well as channeling the fat tones that you hear from Duane Allman from the Fillmore East show. Great Garcia tones can come from these strings as well. Basically what I am saying is that you can still get those classic guitar sounds on these heavy strings without feeling like your losing tone or playing opportunities utilized by the players that inspire you who may use lighter string gauges. These strings also (as far as I know) have a round core instead of a hex core. I think that might be a reason why these strings have so much sustain, especially when you have some distortion or overdrive keeping them warm while playing lead. If you are on the fence about getting these, I recommend you give them a try just see how they work for you. They are no that expensive and its worth it to figure out what works for you as a player. I used to use Boomers for about 10 years, on all my electrics (9s). Until arthritis started creeping in. Switched to EB slinky 8s, and playing became much easier. Everything still had a huge sound, but previous order added a test set of the Boomer 8.5s for my Gibson Les Paul goldtop with P90s. Took a while to get used to the rougher feel compared with the EB 8s. But will probably order another set for the goldtop, and a set for my ES295.Joe S.

I was surprised to fine this heavy of a guage of strings. I didn't know they existed. The thing about heavy strings is that you have much more ability to play with dynamic resonance – something you can't really get with light guage strings. With these strings, you can play as softly as you wish but when you really want it to "come out" they don't disappoint. I also only play with the fleshy tip of my fingers which melds into the subtle nuances of chord and solo performance.garycgrieve
The package is for C standard, not Drop C as some people mistakenly think…well, I guess you could use them for Drop C if you like veeeery stiff strings. If you want strings for Drop C, I'd suggest a skinny top/heavy bottom set of strings with an 11 up top and a 54 or so on the bottom so the bottom E tuned to C doesn't get floppy and knocked out of tune easily. Anyway, I've been using these for a long time on my USA core line PRS Custom 24 in C standard. They seem fine for going down a half step to B standard and feel fine even up half a step to C# standard. That's as high as I'd tune these strings up, though. I couldn't recommend these strings more!Josh
I have these strings on my schecter c-1 SLS blackjack tuned all the way down to drop A#, and let me tell you, despite being labeled as optimized for drop C, I don't recommend them for that tuning. 11-52s, 12-54s and 11-56s are better for Drop C, but for Drop B and Drop A#, you will not find a better gauge than these on a 25.5 scale length guitar or a 26.5 baritone. The tension is absolutely perfect! It feels like a 10-52 set in E standard with the E string tuned to D! Like with all D'addarios, they are bright, long lasting, they feel smooth and they absolutely love locking tremolos. I can yank my floyd rose all I want and it still will not go out of tune. Since D'addarios are bright as I stated before, they also remain clear under high gain, which I use my marshall JVM on the red channel with a maxon OD as a boost and a peavey 5150. I like the strings, but the over advertising on emails is really annoying. I’m not sure who is your marketing manager, but your time would be well spent at NAAM, Local guitar dealers, online advertising, etc. Maybe even getting a contract to put your strings on specialty guitars from the manufacturer, along with specs that only you meet. I had been reading about these strings in forums etc and was intrigued. Decided to try a set or two and see what was up. I bought the 10-52 Signatures. Well, I have been using them for a month and a half and all I can say is, believe the hype. The feel great, nice on the fingers, and it seems like the difference in quality of the metal is noticeable. I mean, it feels that way. Maybe it's something else. I don't know but they feel good, hold tune very well and settle in easy right after they're strung up. In six weeks of home playing they have not diminished in tone or tuning stability at all. For years I've been trying numerous gauges and brands of strings for playing in Drop C. I currently play 25.5 scale guitars, but used to play 24.75 which made finding the right strings difficult. I thought I found the right set when I started using the 10-52 set and replacing the 52 for a 56, but I started wearing out the 10s on top so I went for this set. The lower strings are beefy enough to handle riffs, but the .42 (A) and .30 (D) strings still give and breath enough for smoother playing. These replaced the set of 10's that came on my 25.5 inch scale Hanson Firenze; Jazzmaster style offset with classic-wind Firebird-like blade pickups and a Bigsby. No setup changes were required when I dropped back to this lighter 9.5 set. I can't tell the difference in tone but my 64-year-old fingers aren't feeling nearly as much stress when I play. I liked the sound of the 10's compared to the 9's I was accustomed to but my fingers never quite adapted. These in-betweeners feel great and sound good too.Dave
I'm very surprised these strings aren't far more popular. I think it's because most guitarists don't think about in-between gauges. You get the easy playability of 9 gauge and the tuning stability of 10 gauge. They're not so stiff that ye lil finger tip gets all sore doing them bends and not so light that when ya get all into the groove and apply a tad too much pressure them notes start to sound a touch sharp. As for tone, these sound great! Not too bright. Not too dark. Just right. I play a lot in drop D using a Floyd and these are the perfect string. Not too stiff, not too light. Perfect for noodling around the fretboard. I mean, these are 5 bucks a set. Buy a set and check em' out. I'm sure as hell glad I did. As far as stuff getting on your hand as one reviewer stated, well uh, I think that's a dirty bridge and fretboard. Definitely not the strings. How would that even be possible??DanGoodShot
I am beyond gigging at 77 due to arthritis and Tennosynovitis, but these strings allow me to enjoy jams without sacrificing tone. Some necks also become "just right" when they are too limber for nines. If you're a "Tens" minimum guy, give them a try and give your fingers a break. Ernie Ball does it right !

I don't really remember when I first started using Pure Nickel strings (of any brand), but I DO know I have never used anything but Pure Nickel since. The strings got a 4 star rating. I purposely omitted 1 star because, I feel they don't last as long as say a Nickel wound D'Addario would…but then again, I have not found a Pure Nickel D'Addario set of strings. So I forfeit the longevity for the tone. I DID just today order some Fender 150M (medium gauge 11's)…which are also Pure Nickel. I would never order 10 sets of strings if I didn't like them. Once I get to play the 11's, I will give a review on that product page. As far as Fender Pure Nickel strings go…you can't go wrong on the tonal quality. Rock on!!!White Dog
For years I've played flatwound strings, but when I bought my new Fender American Professional Jaguar I was taken by how lively and expressive the strings were! I left them on. There was a learning curve, with me having to learn a lighter touch, but the more I played them the more I liked them, I went on the Fender website, clicked on the "Chat with us" button, and asked what set came on the Jaguar. BUY THESE ! I hadn't used Fender strings for 30 years . A friend of mine bought out a music store so to liquidate he sold me all the strings and drum sticks in stock .. there were mostly Fender strings so I started using them . 20 packs of 9's lasted me well over a year . I work at least 3 night a week as a lead guitarists / vocalist . so I use my main Strat a lot . after I ran out of Fender's I used GHS and noticed I was breaking strings .. so I tried the Ernie Ball's .. breaking strings again ! I went to a local music store and bought a pack of Fender's . as an experiment I wasted to see how long before one would break . SIX WEEKS ! .. THEY LASTED 6 WEEKS ! .. After trying a few different brands and gauges of strings over a five year period I have finally found the perfect brand/set of strings for playing in C# and drop-B tunings. I started out playing Ernie Ball sets on a 25.5 scale guitar in standard tuning but when I began experimenting with down-tuning I found the EB sets to be lacking in tone and definition the lower I tuned my guitar not to mention constantly breaking my low E string. When I switched to playing a 24 3/4 scale guitar in C# and drop-B I had to start looking for a new set of strings because the EB "not even slinky" sets I had been using just were not cutting it. I tried Dean Markley Blue Steel .13's with a wound 3rd string and found the top strings to be cumbersome and the low .56 still not heavy enough for dropping the low E to B. I went to every single music shop in town looking for a light top/extremely heavy bottom set and I finally ran across the GHS .10 – .60 set on sale, two for the price of one. Perfect! These strings last forever. If you use some GHS Fast Fret on them they keep their tone better than any other brand of string I've tried and I have yet to break a string in the year or so I've been using the GHS .10-.60 sets. The tone is fantastic and they sound great on a mahogony/maple body guitar with EMG pickups. It does take some getting used to the difference in string gauge between the low and high strings but it didn't take me long to learn to adjust my pick attack for the lighter strings on the top end. If you know how to set up your guitar for heavy gauge strings get 'em and go to town! If not I would highly recommend you take your guitar to a guitar/music shop and have it set up by a pro. Oh, for you kids out there: these strings are NOT meant for standard tuning and they will not make you sound like Zakk Wylde but they might make you a better guitarist if used as intended. touring in the 80s I used GHS boomers GBCL, I stopped playing in the 90s and somehow ended up using EB hybrid slinkys. I found an old pack of boomers in a guitar case compartment i hadnt opened since 93. Somehow they were still fresh and strung up one of my guitars from the 80s. Wow, the wound strings EAD (or C# G# C# my tuning) are definitely Louder and breakthrough more than the wound EBs… (the plain steel sounded identical). There are soooooooo many fake garbage and laughable opinions on guitar products these days on the tube that I decided to do my own experiment to confirm what I was hearing. I proceeded to purchase 26 packs of these GHS boomers GBCL (which are the wound strings from a 10s set and the plain strings from a 9s set). Using 2 identical guitars (even color), Logic X via a PreSonus FireStudio input, dunlop red acrylic 1.5mm pick and as consistent as possible pick of each strings. The only difference was that each guitar had a new set of strings, one got GHS boomers GBCL and the other ErnieBall HyBrid Slinkys. I averaged the 12 picks of each string by merging the 12 waveforms into a single track for each guitar for each string, the wound strings of the GHS boomers were clearly louder, rang longer by at least 7.2, 5.9, 4.6 seconds respectively (tuned toC#, G#, C#). the Plain Steel string waveforms were virtually Identical between the sets though. If you arent sure what this tuning is, its simply DropD half a step down (aka dropC#). Plugged into a Dual Rectifier, Laney and a Vetta, on a high gain channel you get this Extra Gain that breaks through, so needless to say ill be back to using GHS boomers GBCLs on all my guitars!!!thundercab

I went through two sets of these after my friend recommended them to me and boasted about how amazing they were. I had been using Ernie Ball Slinky sets and was still a fairly new player at the time, so I was trying to discover my sound. I put these strings on my Epiphone G-400. Tonally, the strings were pretty responsive and could really sing. However, I didn't like the fact that I had to crimp the wound strings due to the round core wire. It's just extra work, and I hate restringing as it is. Another problem: String breakage. Out of all the string brands I've tried, none of them have been as prone to breaking as DRs. Good tone shouldn't come at the cost of weak strings. Ernie Balls not only cost less, but their overall quality has been superior so far. Sorry, DR.
Bought these on a recommendation from a guy on YouTube and have not had any issues at all. I used Dean Markley Blue Steels for nearly 20 years, but due to lack of availability, was looking for an alternative. The individual who recommended them is a touring professional guitarist. I use these strings on my Ibanez Premium RG with Dunan Distortions and compared to the cobalts I usually use, they feel a lot stronger, definitely even louder and the high strings really ring out a lot. On a clean sound they're very crisp and clear, for high gain they have a lot of output and clarity, even compared to the cobalts. I just got them not long ago so i can't comment on the life yet, but I assume it'll be as good, if not better than the cobalts. Overall excellent strings and i really love the new plain strings as i was kinda disappoint by the cobalts on changing the wraps. Great job on these!JeffTremy
So I've been putting Ernie Ball coated strings on my Strat for a while now. I played around with cobalts and the tone was great, but I thought the life wasn't as long. The M-Steels don't seem awfully different from the cobalts. This certainly isn't a problem; they feel great and sound great. However, after how hard they marketed these strings as a "revolution" it just seems strange to me that they put out a product that's so similar to the cobalts. Marketing gripes aside, these are good strings. Great tone, bright and snappy but not thin. They feel like very solid, strong strings. Like all Ernie Ball strings, they have great feel. Ernie ball m-steels are for me a great find, nice and tight bass side of the strings, and a more mid focused sound with increased output. They feel a bit strange a first and have a slight increase in tension, I have these on 4 of my guitars, it only sucks that they don't do 7 or 8 string sets which I have already msged Ernie ball about, maybe that will change in the future.gnosisdemiurge

In summary, this set is BEAUTIFUL. I reccommend this for any seven-string player out there (unless you're a jazz player – then get the D'Addario Chromes set). Definitely worth the money. This set of strings is just perfect for the style I like to play – Progressive Metal with some Metalcore influences. Its heavy gauge gives it a really nice tension for the low strings and keeps the high ones loose enough to bend and solo like Petrucci himself. I tune to A-E-A-D-G-B-E, which is standard Drop A tuning on a seven string, because I love playing on the tense and tight strings on the low end; however, I have dropped it to standard Drop F# and it sounded really good, too. It's really hard for seven string players to buy strings, because the selection is so limited out there, and we don't really have the option of the "Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom", which is what I love to play on my six strings. However, these work just fine. I really need the lower gauge on top, so finding this set with a thicker low end and a thinner high end really excited me. I've adjusted my string tension on my Floyd Rose system to match these, and I think I'm gonna stick with them. Because of how rare seven string players are, it's really easy for a huge company to jack up the prices on their seven string sets. This set is an exception, however; with standard shipping, it's less than seven bucks. Obviously, one can't ever be completely satisfied with price (because free is the best option ), but this comes close enough.
Once I switched to seven strings I was looking for strings that would give me good tension for drop A, a tuning commonly used on seven strings. However, many stock strings only go up to about 56-ish and consider that a "ultra heavy gauge." Considering I used 10-52 on my six string in drop C#, this wouldn't be nearly enough. Thankfully I found these strings and got them. They have the perfect tension for tuning below standard on the low string(s) without being to heavy on the higher-pitched strings. Don't expect to be able to pull off drop F# without issues, but try these out if you want a good metal sound with fantastic tension.Brian Dice
I use this pack on a six string (drop the 10) when tuning a regular scale guitar to C. They drop in perfectly, and the tension is great tuned as such. I find that they stay "tighter" and don't flop around as much as every other brand of string I have used. The sound is full and rich, without being too muddy. I received a set of these as a gift, have had them installed for about 3 weeks. I'm a lifelong Ernie Ball user and love the brightness of the wound strings that the newer, higher output versions like Cobalts and M-Steels have. These DR's are about equal as far as sound characteristics, but superior to the EB's when it comes to intonation and staying in tune. They come with 3 extra plain strings and the fact that they're less expensive is a plus, but price isn't the deciding factor for me… I'll pay good money for gear as long as it's high quality…Spruce Creeker

Excellent strings for heavier music styles. I use them to play metal mostly, but they sound warm and rich in al kinds of styles. The strings feel great and the clarity is really good. My first experience with Ernie Ball strings. I bought them for my "heavy" guitar which I use for metal with heavy riffs and drop tunings. The combination of standard high strings and thick low strings provides a very versatile option for a heavy music. In my personal opinion, even in the standard E tuining the riffs sound more heavy due to a larger gauge of the lower strings. Drop D works great as well. And the feeling is different: when you hear the heavy sound and feel the thicker strings under your fingers – it adds the vide to the whole thing. Most likely I will stay with these strings for the heavy music for a while; so far I do not see a better option.Pavel

There are a few "good" brands of electric guitar strings, and I have always chosen Ernie Ball as my goto set. They cost less, and last just as long as anything else that I have tried so that right there is enough for me. The new Cobalt, and Paradigm series strings are even better in my opinion, and it is the Paradigm that I use on my personal guitars now but for every guitar that I sell (several every month) it is always Cobalt series strings. I live on the Florida coast so anything made of metal is short lived especially guitar strings but the Cobalts do the trick, and last a couple of months for me.zombie415.2009
These strings need no credability having already been used and endorsed by the likes of Eric Clapton and Steve Vai and many more guitar giants. I only recently tried these cobalts and will probably never go back to the standard nickel strings. The big difference you notice right away is the feel of the strings when pressed and played, almost giving the feel of having a scalloped neck. The strings have a sort of elasticity to them, making for easy bending. Just a great feel. The next difference you'll notice is the higher output they give, while in my case actually making each note more distinct and clear at higher gains. Overall: Use these exclusively on my 7 string. Perfect gauge sizing for down tuning; I love tuning to GDGCFAD. As far as "output" I can't really discern any advantage over other strings, but these of course have that great bouncy Ernie ball sound to them. I feel like they last a tad longer than plain Ernie balls but it could be a placebo effect. The gauge is perfect for what I do, anything else with these is just a plus. Unfortunately, I do not have a 7-string axe but if I did, it would be strung out with these babies! I buy them for the 28, 38 & 58 strings for my SRV Strat to get that Texas tone. They play just as smooth & good as any of the other Ernie Ball strings I use. I love the heavy, warm-end tone & the strings do not disappoint AND they're easy on the fingers meaning they're smooth. If you bend strings up a whole step like I do, these strings will toughen you up real fast.. These strings last and never have I experienced any corrosion. I was looking for a perfect set to stay super tight in Eb but also retain enough tension in lower tunings. I had been using the Not Even Slinky set and found the higher strings for be a little too thick and the lower a little too thin. So, I decided to give these a shot. I remove the .28 (Normally the 4th string) and that way, I have regular 11s at the top but super heavy strings at the bottom. When tuned to my signature Eb, they retain a lot of tension and are good for a nice chugging sound. When tuned any lower than Drop C, they start to lose a little tension, but still stay manageable. I'd say the lowest comfortable tuning is Drop A before they get too floppy. Overall great strings, EB is the best!Ryan
Ernie Ball Strings are great. They have a lovely "twang" to them when brand new. However, I DO like their Paradigm Strings the most, as they last for 6 months or more before I need to change them. Those Ernie Ball Paradigm Strings are the best, longest lasting strings that I have ever used. I wish Artist Guitars stocked the EB Paradigms (I'd have given a 5* Rating instead of 4* if they had Paradigm Strings). If/when they DO start to stock them and if their price is right, I'll purchase them for ALL my 7 or 8 guitars! ATM I usually purchase 3-pack deals via e-Bay. 😀 I only got these as I wanted a brand new set of 7-String Guitar Strings for my brand new and 1st ever 7 String guitar, the Artist Guitars' Spiritus 7 that I purchased recently. However, I am going to purchase Paradigm 7-String sets from now on. These non-paradigms are just temporary. I'll be purchasing another Acoustic Guitar or few in the future also, as I'd like a JB300NT V2 Steel String Acoustic as well as a new Nylon Classical Guitar. And I need a Bass or 2 also.
