Just used this product. I see potential but can't seem to get it right. At this point in time I would not recommend the product. Maybe if I figure it out If you use a thin coat as directed you always get brush lines. Plus the stuff is so thick it is very difficult to put on just a thin coat. Working in small sections the poly didn't blend well. Picture attached. I've used several of the Minwax Poly products. "One Coat" intrigued me so decided to give it a shot. Don't think I would use it again. The finish itself was satisfactory although I don't feel it is the equivalent of two or three coats but time will tell. Application is where I was unimpressed. Actually, pretty disappointed. It applies very thick and sticky and is not easy to spread evenly across the surface. It also results in a good bit of globbing and what I'll call poly-boogers. Honestly it was like trying to seal coat with Elmer's School Glue. I'll return to the Poly-Acrylic product for future projects.dschloder
This is a terrible product. Notice that most of the favorable reviews are from people that received the product for free. I tried this product on the back of some cabinet doors before I used it on the fronts. I am returning the product to Lowes for a refund. If you want to understand the problem it dries as you paint it on so quickly it leaves gloppy patches and brush marks everywhere. I sanded and then did a second coat – just slightly better. Now I just did a third coat no progress. It paints on just like Elmer's white glue sticky and thick. You don't have time to finish a long brush stroke before the coat is drying. Minwax doesn't have any tips "just call us" is the their suggestion. I think Minwax should take this off the market to try to salvage their diminishing reputation. It is no wonder Valspar is winning in the big box stores. No, I won't try Valspar's version of this product either. Very disappointing! I do like water based polyurethane but just use the thinner version and plan on 6 coats. They dry in an hour or two and then sand lightly with 220 grit or higher and recoat- just like we always have.DougG

I found it a little trickier to use when compared to some other clears, but watch the training video Createx made for this, and once you get it dialed in then it really does work very well. Also using a mild polishing compound, once it has cured, really enhances the shine. I sprayed with a Badger Patriot 105 with the medium needle/nozzle and it does require some thinning. It is pretty thick stuff ! I also tried it as a primer on hard plastic and that also worked well. No complaints.
As I continue to learn how to paint with Createx Colors I have found more and more uses for the UVLS Clear. It is a dandy final finish but it is also great for an undercoat right before trying something difficult that may go belly up. With a solid coat of UVLS Clear I can wipe away a mistake and not ruin my under color.
Createx has hit a grand slam with this product series (UVLS -gloss, matte,,satin). It’s a primer. It’s an intercoat. It’s a sealer. It’s a flow enhancer ( oh, what it does for Candy 2.o is amazing – the depth) My go to (sorry 4030) as an intercoat and for increasing flow, leveling and fortifying all CC paints. Your not going to ‘scratch technique’ CC illustration when mixed with this. It needs to be reduced for AB. Requires more build up AB than with a No Name “ Z-gun. As a clear coat, You want to apply wet enough to get a blue hue, let dry (15 minutes) repeat. This stuff can be sanded, buffed and polished. Hey – go watch the @Spraygunner YouTube video with Artem and Dylan review this “ miracle elixir”. They do an in-depth job. One last thing. Don’t clear over your fluorescent paint with UVLS if you want it to show under a black-light. The UV inhibitors do there job as designed. Buy more than you think – you’ll use it for everything.

(1) directions on the can are a little small for my old eyes (needed to find my reading glasses). (2) Followed them to a T – and the application of the finish was mostly as advertised. except. (3) the product was used (4 thin coats) over prepared maple, exactly as directed, but the instruction could have advised that one ought to raise the grain, and sand off all nibs first. (4) After the 1st coat cured and dried – I had to abrasively remove most of it because the (hard maple) grain had raised (on glue-laminated table top) so that the smoothness of just one coat – looked pretty bad. This is after-all water-borne urethane based finish – and the suspension of the uncured- finish will soak the ends of the wood fibers.. duh. Still a few words of prevention (raise grain ) would have prevented a whole lot of frustration…and time wasted …"oh no Mr. Bill" 3 more coats and 2 more fine sanding rounds later I stopped…not completely satisfied. But I needed to deliver the table tops to my client. Durability of coating has been almost meeting expectations, except for durability in the location where it counts: In my experience this urethane coat when exposed to the cleaning solution required by the local health department, cuts the expected lifetime of the finish by 60%- to 70%… the alkaline constituent in the solution slowly attacks and dissolves the cured finish. This product does have a learning curve to it. Works great on a small project, but the larger ones need a better understanding of how this product goes on. Despite following the multitude of YouTube videos and the manufacturers videos of just how easy this product is to apply, I was getting too many streaks while applying it to a large screen TV stand project. Frustrating. The only method of removing this product effectively is to strip it off chemically, then start over again. Practicing on smaller pieces is fine, but better off practicing on a larger piece to figure out the best method that will work for you. Looking back, I applied this product in January in my unheated basement (New England area) which might have added to my woes, temps in the upper fifties in my basement (RF of 60%). I wasn't able to heat the space effectively so I switched to GF's water based gloss finish and sprayed it on with an HVLP spray system which worked out much better and dried quicker.Thomas

I purchased the KBS DiamondFinish Clear Coat after hearing about it on a fishing lure painting web site. The product is outstanding for the purpose of top coating lures after painting. I was a bit disappointed with the diamond clear in some respects. It has a beautiful gloss and seems to dry quickly. However as far as self leveling and durability is concerned that seem a bit lacking. I painted my intake with the clear and it was not resistant to the gasoline that spilled on it as it peeled right up. I like this Krylon clearcoating for doing woodwork. However, on the directions it says that it will probably dry in 15 minutes and I found it still tacky over several hours after applying. I do NOT work for Krylon…. But I am an expert woodworker. To all those who are lamenting their project ruined by using this product – YOU ruined your project because of your inexperience or lack of research. Polyurethane is a WOOD finish. It is supposed to be applied directly to wood – NOT painted wood. And why wouldn't have ruined your painted product – the ingredients in this type of finish attack paint, similar to thinner. For painted projects use a clear coat meant for paint. This product IS NOT that type. I have used this on many projects for maple, oak, etc. It sprays on thin and even, leaving a great finish. It quick dries so that you can do multiple coats in a day, allowing for the finishing to be accomplished… in a day. It dries to a tack finish in about 20 minutes, handling dryness in about 3-4 hours depending on the temperature of the day. After a 24 hr drying period, lightly remove surface imperfections an polish using STAINLESS steel wool. The finish and tough surface is amazing. The absorption leaves a rich color finish. Used correctly, this is an excellent product that keeps me from having to pull out my spray gun and compressor to get this kind of finish. The only minus – its pricey. But with the time savings and easy of use – not so bad. Available at many other sites at just over half the price. And don't even think about using this without a REALLY GOOD mask or respirator – again, harsh chemicals when applying that can do more harm to you than your painted project.Bill

Very quick drying, lacquer is an ideal finish for my wood turning projects. Lacquer is lacquer, regardless of brand, however, Rust-Oleum provides a clog- and splatter free nozzle. I usually apply 12 coats, allowing about an hour for drying in between. I start with 3 coats of lacquer sealer, then 3 of matte lacquer; another 3 coats of satin, topped off with three coats of high gloss. Tip: each coat should be extremely light to avoid runs and longer drying times. Note: don't use on furniture that comes in contact with alcohol.
I signed up with a home depot account just so I can write how awful this product is. There is no way to lay down a decent finish. No matter what, you will end up with stripes. Possibly because it dries so quickly that it cant actually sink the next pass onto the overlap from the previous. I've wasted money on 3 cans, I'll probably have to sand it all off and buy another product so money and much time wasted. I diluted this finish with a little water and applied with a foam brush. It leveled very well with zero brush marks of drips. It dried very quickly so there was almost no 'nibs' to remove. I bought when I discovered my 15 year old can of Varathane Diamond had turned to gel. The store didn't have interior (there used to be only one) and I though "how different can it be?". Well . . it means it when it says not for interior. I put it on a stair railing and the results are awful. It doesn' t flow and self level like my previous experiences with Varathane Diamond Coat. Does anyone want 9/10 of a litre of this stuff? I have no use for it. 2 stars because it does say that it's not for interior, I wouldn't be happy with the results even on an exterior item.Bilbo
Was hoping for a nice even mist but instead it kept spitting out globs of condensed foam. The globs hardened before they had a chance to flatten out and they dried to a yellow tinge. Gave the can a good long shake prior to spraying but that didn't help. Of course my project got ruined and now I have to start over again. May have better luck using a foam brush with the non-spray version instead.Zenster

Some areas were matte and others were glossy. A little light sanding between coats and you can build up a fully shiny surface. I like the feel of the polycrylic. I did notice a difference between how I prepared the wood. The wood that was treated with Minwax high performance word hardener looked like the unfinished wood except the golden tones were more radiant. The wood that was treated with Minwax water-based Pre-stain wood conditioner darkened the natural color of the wood. A similar enhancement to the richness in color was observed with the Minwax water-based solid-color stain wood finish. I have a 100 year old table and chair set that I spent a solid month refurbishing. I sanded it down very well, but with it being 100 years old, it still had plenty of little knicks and dents in the wood. So I chose chalk paint to paint the table legs and chairs as it is so dense and also very flat that it conceals imperfections very well. The paint job was perfection, and I was so pleased with it. Then I made the mistake of putting Miniwax Matte finish Polycrylic on top. First of all, it’s not matte at all. The sheen is much closer to semi-gloss. I stirred the can literally 100 times in both ways (I counted it out in my head) so I know that no components were separated in the can— in other words, this was not a user-error. I also applied a very light coating. I thought after my first coat that it just needed to dry in order for the sheen to diminish. Nope. Still very high shine. It ruined the texture of my chalk paint completely, and revealed every single blemish on all of my chairs. I was distraught. Also, it yellowed in some spots, and I know for a fact that it was not caused by tannins because I coated the chairs with shellac everywhere prior to applying the white chalk paint to seal the tannins from seeping through. Thinking I had maybe a bad batch of paint, I borrowed some of the same matte polycrylic from my mother to hopefully conceal the sheen (after sanding off the yellow streaks) and it did the SAME THINGG!! I’m mad, and disappointed to say in the least. Don’t buy the matte polycrylic, it’s just so disappointing.McKenziepaints
I had very good results using Minwax Polycrylic after finishing 3 semi-gloss coats over a properly stripped, sanded, sealed and painted pine table top. Looked great and got lots of compliments as I let it dry for 5 days before using. My problem came when we started using the table and had a spill of oily red oriental sauce one day which appeared to be staining. I scrubbed the spot and eventually it came out. Not pleased about this and figured the top was not yet cured. If that's the problem I just wonder when it might be. Then last night I put a fairly hot cup of tea down on the table and left it for 5 minutes. When I went to pick it up it appear lightly stuck. As I lifted the cup there was a noticeable ring left as if melted somewhat into the surface. I tried cleaning products to remove the ring but looks like its a lightly noticeable permanent spot, unless I sand it again and reapply. I'm reluctant to do that because maybe this is not the proper product and creates just a softer surface that is not as durable as I was led to believe. If that's the case, can you recommend what I can do to create a more durable surface? I'm just looking for something that can take the day-in and day-out durability that an everyday table needs. I am willing to avoid some things on it but what? Did I leave enough time to cure the surface? Will it ever get better over time? Can I solve this by using a oil-based or marine product for a better harder surface?pkiczek

SprayMax 2K lived up to my expectations for appearance and for how quickly it reached hardness. I waited 48 hours before wet-sanding to remove some orange peel, and it smoothed out nicely with a quick pass of #1500 sandpaper and looked like poured-glass after buffing with compound. The only minor criticism was the higher than expected rate of spray, even though the pattern was almost spray gun-like, it comes out heavier than I would have preferred, and I got a small run. Fortunately, it hardened so well, it was easy to sand out the run and make it disappear after wet-sanding and buffing. Important Note: This product uses some seriously toxic chemistry (read all warnings), so be certain to use with really good ventilation, an appropriate respirator, and PPE for eyes, face, and exposed skin.legacy_tech_1984
This stuff works great until you've used between 50% and 75% of the product. At that point it doesn't matter how often or vigorously you shake the can it starts spitting and sputtering. Even with that it leaves a great finish. I painted the fiberglass roof of a Bombardier NEV (about the same size as a smart car), with Krylon Candy Grape paint. The Krylon paint nozzle produces a small round pattern. Very difficult to paint without leaving stripes. I painted in a variety of patterns to get full coverage. I've never painted that way before. The coverage is great but a lot of overspray. After applying this 2k clear coat (of which the nozzle produces a large fan pattern) the overspray is gone and the surface is now a high gloss. Considering I painted in a not so clean building with many open to the outdoors areas and the temperature in the high 80's and low 90's I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Good job. This product is amazing for a DIY amateur like myself. I did have an issue with one can that released clear from the bottom activator.during activation. I didn't know if the final product was compromised so I requested a replacement from Summit and received it immediately (thank you Summit!) The clear flows better than anything I have ever used and the final result was honestly perfect. Perfect spray, no orange peel, no runs, just hardened perfection. I have been using this product on furniture I am building from reclaimed white oak. The first piece I built was during the winter, so I had to apply the finish in the basement. I would say this is low odour and fast drying. Easy cleanup because it is water based. The clear finish did alter the colour of the wood, but that was too be expected and I am pleased with the results. Several months later I have bought another can for a third project. The finish has been durable so far in rooms occupied by students.Randy

In fact it says' For wood floors, use Varathane Floor Finish'. So I bought the wrong product. Not sure how I rate it but gave it a 2 star which is really rating Lowes not the product. It's a fussy product, requiring way too much finesse. I suppose it would be great on absolutely flat surfaces. On contour surfaces like raised panel door and drawers, it was difficult to coat evenly; even with a dry brush. This is a very easy product to use. I started off using an old t-shirt but it wasn't giving me the finish I wanted so I switched over to a foam brush. This was much easier to control the smears and streaks. The one piece of advice that I would have for anyone using this product is make sure you have GREAT lighting so you can see if there is any build ups in any areas or streaks that need to be addressed before drying. Once it is dry the mistake is hard to get out without sanding it all down and starting over. (This happened to me). I did my all my maple kitchen cabinets with this and it looks great!Brian

I have read reviews about not very good performance of pearlescent paints. I have used a couple cans of this paint and I've had very good luck. But the one thing I have discovered is that the cans first need to be shook extremely well! I can't emphasize this enough! Even my sister who is a graphics designer told me this about pearlescent paint. when you go to spray them on, it almost looks like a clear spray with a bit of metal flake in it. You may think that there's no white color in the paint at all. The white comes out after the many light coats that you apply. The more coats at you apply you start to see the color come out. They spray on very differently from normal enamel paints in that respect. So, I would not recommend somebody write off this product as no good. Just shake it extremely well and plan on doing four to five coats and you will see the white start to appear as you spray itJeffrey
This product does not do what the name implies. I just spoke to a customer rep. at Dupli-color and, learned that this is not equal to a factory applied clear coat. It is not intended to be sanded and polished, as one would think, to make it look like the rest of the vehicle. It will NEVER harden enough to be able to use a wax remover because it will remove this "clear coat protective finish" along with it, it will soften (even more) and ruin it. I applied per instructions over the perfect match base coat and ended up with a unsightly blotch on my truck due to the clear coat. which is why it will eventually turn yellow from the sun even if you are somehow able to get it to look halfway decent initially. Another spot I applied this product in ( two months ago ) and got ok results, is still soft enough to scratch it with my finger nail. Apparently you need a 2K clear ( Dupli-color does not sell ) to get the best results. For DIY people this should be stated on the product label, so we don't spend an entire weekend on this stuff only to have it turn out like badly.Not good
I have done auto body work many times and teh finished product always looks factory-perfect and gets many a compliment from those seeing it. I bought the red metallic paint and this clear coat to refinish teh liftgate of my 2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition, which had several spots of corrosion from Ford's dissimilar metal issue. Glazing the pited areas and priming (using DupliColor primer) went very well. Wet sanding the primer next and then wiping it all down with pre-paint cleaner again. The red basecoat (also DupliColor) did not spray smooth as it should and required wet sanding with 600-grit between each coat, and I had to apply FOUR coats just to get full coverage! I then wet sanded and cleaned the surfaces again and waited about 24 hours before applying the first coat of this Clear Top Coat. Well, the Top Coat yielded a rough surface as if sand had been thrown on wet paint, even though i applied it evenly and very carefully. Wet sanded and cleaned again. Then applied the second clear coat…same rough surface resulted! These paints are not even close to calling themselves as good as OEM. They do not yield a smooth surface no matter how carefully you apply them. I even bought another can of the same top coat at a different auto store, thinking maybe I got some old/bad paint, but the results came out "rough" again! I guess if you like vehicles with a textured look, these paints will fwork great, but if you wanta smooth surface, do not buy these!Art

This was the original finish on my wenge kitchen counters 9 years ago, and I used it to repair a major stain and some wear. Sanded down the damaged areas to pretty much to bare wood, and the rest a bit with 180 grit. Four coats with 24 hours between, sanded lightly with 220. Applied with a brush and wiped off excess with a cotton rag. No sanding on final coat. Turned out pretty good, although a little shiny for satin finish.Eric
First time I've used it. It's a VERY thin oil. But it soaks in well and when frictioned onto turnings, it applies very well. Slow to cure, but can be built up into a very nice sheen. Be aware that the label says 30 days to full cure. On white wood, it tends to make things look a little yellow. Almost antique. But it's a warm finish and looks great on darker woods.HandCrafted
