7. Performing Baroque Music On The Classical Guitar: A Practical Handbook Based On Historical Sources [Book]
Product Details:
David russell writes: "congratulations on this fabulous book. it will be a great help and inspiration to many guitarists." the common denominator of music in our chosen period is rhetorical expression. historical performance practice, by bringing us closer to the essence of the music, gives us not only more understanding but – above all – more possibilities for moving our listeners. it is with this in mind that the present book has been written. author: peter croton, early music performer, and teacher at the world-renowned schola cantorum basiliensis as well as at the conservatories of basel and bern. cover art and design: johanna croton paul galbraith writes:"this handbook is a distinguished addition to the ever-expanding body of instructional literature for guitarists. a highly stimulating, provocative and educational read!" oscar ghiglia writes: "a very precious collection of musical wisdom, in the words of peter croton and from the heritage of ancient living documents expressing profound opinions of historical writers, on their contemporary art of feeling and performing their music." pablo márquez writes:"the great hungarian pianist györgy sebök used to say that 'the first step to freedom is to make a choice. when you have only one option then you have no choice, when you have two options then you have a dilemma, when you have three or more options then you start having a choice.' this new book by peter croton is a wonderful tool for guitarists to become freer in negotiating early music's vast territory." peter croton's book is an extremely helpful guide. he not only discusses historical sources, but also draws upon his experience as performer, researcher and teacher. i had the privilege of studying with him for two years, thus personally experiencing his incredible knowledge and true commitment to this music."

Very thorough and extensive method for beginners upwards. Unlike some guitar methods, the music is interesting as well as didactic.andrewts999
This is seriously the best guitar method I have ever seen! It does not even compare to the other methods I have bought. No wonder they use it at universities and conservatories. The exercises are to the point and get harder gradually as the student builds up their skill, starting with easy techniques such as tirando and apoyando and progressing slowly to portamento, tremolo and arpeggio. Everything in this book is set out so clearly that everyone understands it and it is very, very progressive. This book is a great preparation for anyone wanting to study the classical guitar at university or just as a past time. Recommending to all.Jakub
This was recommended by experienced classical guitarists on a forum. The music is progressively more challenging as the lessons go on.spelingmistake

10. Complete Warm-Up For Classical Guitar [Book]
Product Details:
This book contains short and concise exercises for use in a warm-up before practice or performance, and for general technical advancement. the book is divided into four sections: i arpeggios, ii scales, iii tremolo, and iv slurs. each section contains a description of the exercises and general instructions on how to play them. the exercises are intended for guitarists who are looking for a simple warm-up that does not require learning many complicated etudes, exercises or routines. in this book, only one etude is used for a variety of arpeggio and tremolo patterns. the scale warm-ups are based on a two-octave, one-position scale that is shifted up and down the fretboard, and a simple one-position chromatic scale. the pull-off and hammer-on slurs are combined into one exercise to save time. this same routine, when practiced with the metronome gradually increasing the tempo, can also double for technical work. with the exception of one chromatic scale exercise, the rest are on closed strings. besides being able to move the scale up and down the fretboard, the first finger can be barred. this will increase the left hand difficulty and improve the left hand position and strength.there is close to an hour's worth of material if all the exercises are played with all of their variations at different tempos. not everything needs to be played everyday, so the warm-up session can be as long as desired or as short as time allows.

It is not what I expectedStephen
Awesome book great for left handed peopleAJ
Haven't made it through the entire book yet, but using both the visual and auditory walkthroughs – from the book and DVD in tandem – seemingly makes learning how to play the guitar without paying for lessons fairly doable. If I had to have one criticism it would only be that it should use rings or something for the spine, since I need to hard-bend the pages into place in order to keep it open and play the music on it.Nicolas

As the title indicates – this book is a follow up of an excellent book entitled, The Art of Classical Guitar Playing by Charles Duncan. The current book under review has it all in terms of left hand development including scales, chords, arpeggios and exercises in technical and interpretive control. This book is not for the beginner classical guitarist but for the serious classical guitarist.architekt26019
