Purchased the Orange Crush RT35 through Musicians Friend. The amp on its own is a joy. However, the send and return used with a pedal board loaded w/o overdrive properly transports this amp on the Clean channel to an extreme I've experienced on a tube amp level. I used a Walrus EB 10 parametric pedal then a reverb, delay and slight echo at the end of the chain. The amp incredibly warmed, thickened and boosted the tone to one that competes with any of the high end tube amps I have ever used. Totally shocked! I will experiment with the overdrive on the dirty channel and an OD on the front end very soon. I expect good results. For the money and it's being a solid state, it is super impressive and a great value. I did do a lot of research and comparison, took the plunge, and the payoff was more than I could expect. I just A/B'd it with a 40 watt Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (with this set-up) in a studio and it definitely held its own and, I feel, it sounded better. That's what I know.My customer service rep, Conner at ext 3119, chewed over Bugera V5, Boss Katana MK2, and the Orange RT 35. I leaned toward the RT35 because the German engineering was advanced, the build build quality superior, its weight at 25 lbs and its great reviews.TonyC
It's a budget amp so you can't expect it to do the same as an expensive one. With that said it just doesn't punch above it's weight, it's punching well above it's weight. I have a pre tube amp that has some tubes in it's pre amp, that isn't quite a full tube amp and this isn't quite a full tube amp either or on the face of i an any tube amp, being it's solid state, but it does sound as warm as the pre tube I have, so that's a bonus for me, I prefer warmer tones. So that means not only heavy rock/metal but some very nice bluesy soft rock tones as well. Bult in reverb sounds really nice. The tuner is perfect, no faffing around trying to dial in the tuning. Best tuner on a lower end amp yet and better than my clip on one I have. It has 4 stages of gain, if you will. So pretty versitile. The amp is loud. I never run it in the house over 3 on the volume. It has one volume for clean but the dirty dial is for the gain volume. And it's adjusting this and the gain knob that gets you all your tones for the not clean sounds Two seperate channels with a simple EQ to use for both. Amp is sturdy as you like, well built. And the clincher is the return and send loop on the back., which works very well, a lovely clean loop. The most surprising thing was you associate orange with rockier sounds but this is a nice clean amp too. I might even prefer the clean channel actually. My advice is see reviews for it. There is one thats 20 or so mins long and shows you all the settings and the tones you can find. No brainer for the price and probably worth 100 quid more if you ask me but don't say I told you so or they will put up the price.R O.
I admit I've cycled through several practice amps – a couple of Fender Champions, Marshall MG, Orange Crush Mini, Strymon Iridium, a bunch of headphone amps, etc. This one is a winner. I've always heard good things about Orange quality and longevity. I like the Orange clean sound but I admit it's not for everyone. I play ambient guitar, mostly clean, with some overdrive from pedals. You'd think Fender would be my thing, right? Nope, the Champions just don't sound good compared to the Orange Crush amps. Plus, this combo amp is built like a tank. At the moment I'm running a stereo rig with the Orange Crush 35 and a Marshall MG15 (modded with speaker out pushing a Marshall 1×12), both on clean channels only, and it sounds really good. Every guitar player on God's green earth should have one. The different tones offered with the app inspire you to play differently. It allows you to play along with the songs you love, and download the tone. It also tells you the chord progression to the song. It's an amazing Amp, and if nothing else the GREATEST speaker in the world. I could absolutely ruin my neighborhoods night with the most absurdly clear version of my favorite songs. But I could Also practice at midnight with out waking up my roommates using my headphones.

As a practice amp, you will soon lose interest if the tone is thin, boxy and generally sounds like crap. The Spark is none of this. An incredibly wide range of tones are available via the app with sounds that you just don't expect to come from such a small package. The sound is loud, rich without the boxiness that you seem to get with amps loaded with small speakers. If you've used PG's Bias software, you'll be in very familiar territory – great emulations that have a depth that rivals some of the serious modelers available now. The effects, while not giving you a massive selection, supplies pretty well every type of effect you would ever need. The reverbs and delays are particularly good and while more than good enough for noodling at home, are more than up to the task of recording. The unit is quite sturdy with a timber cabinet and looks great – very traditional with an "English" type of styling. Using the Spark as a Bluetooth player for music is more than up to the task – good bass, clean mids and treble and loads of volume. The app overall is very good with some truly inspiring practice opportunities, though the function where the app analyses your playing and constructs a suitable backing track is hit and miss and is probably the weakest part of the app. Bluetooth connection for both control functions and audio playback is stable and very quick to pair with your device. Overall, I don't think you will find and amp sounding this good with the flexibility and functions available, from anywhere else and that is before taking into consideration, the extra functions the app gives you.Mick G.
I bought this amp on the back of all the rave reviews on YouTube etc. For me, it's just not a finished product yet. It feels very "beta". The hardware seems robust and of good quality. The modelled sounds are very good, albeit very bass heavy. But most of that can be EQ'd out. There are several problems I couldn't live with, and had to sell it on. The hum problem which is due to the supplied, un-earthed PSU was very apparent in my example. I contacted Positive Grid support about the issue in December 20, and as of selling the amp at the start of March 21, I had not yet received the replacement PSU. There are temporary workarounds, but I wanted the problem sorted permanently. As said above, the sound is very bass heavy. The amp models' EQ can be used to deal with the guitar tone, but music playback through the unit via Bluetooth has no EQ control, so the sound quality is very poor. In addition to this, the playback level is far too high. When using as a Bluetooth speaker it is very difficult to get the volume low enough using the tiny trim pot volume control for comfortable listening when sat in close proximity to the unit. The Auto Chords feature is a gimmick and needs serious work. It only works for E standard guitar tuning. For example, when listening to a song in dropped standard tuning such as "Yesterday" (guitar tuned down one whole step) Auto Chords will show fingerings for F, Em, A7 etc instead of the G,. F#m, B7 shapes that are required. At the very least, a "transpose" button is required to allow for dropped standard tunings that are very common. When using the tuner, you have to look at the lights on top of the amp. The app should have a screen that displays the tuner on your connected device when in use. The app metronome tempo can only be set by tap. It should have the ability for the user to enter the exact required BPM by inputting the figure required, or selecting the tempo with up and down or + and – controls. All of these niggles were too much for me to live with. Hopefully Positive Grid implement the changes in future releases, but I won't be buying Spark again until they do.Paul

It is a great amp. Very good sound and options for the price. It is not heavy which is a big deal to someone who has had back surgery. I gave it a 5 in spite of one big complaint. When you turn it off you hear a loud "POP!" Wow, is that loud is what I thought the first time I heard it. I read about it online and there is a simple fix. Find an old set of ear phones or ear buds that you would use on a cassette player or a Sony Walkman. (Yes, these are ancient electronic relics from the past for you younger people. You might ask your parents if they have a cassette player and borrow the ear plugs.) Just plug that earphone jack into the "PHONES" input BEFORE you turn it off. THEN you only hear a little blip when you turn it off. THEN just pull the jack out of the "PHONES" input before you start it next time.chasmigu
This amp is better than I thought. I've had it for over a year. I use it for practice sessions (classic rock mostly), and I haven't gone over '4 1/2' on the volume (it does give good feedback if you want it). I did upgrade the speaker to a 12" 'Celestion' Vintage 30 and am absolutely happy! This could easily be mic'd for larger venues. Lightweight, powerful enough, and the effects are a good assortment. One small glitch…when using the footswitch, there is a short, instantaneous volume boost when the pedal is pressed for distortion. Could possibly be a problem for recording. It's not the greatest amp ever but the sound is absolutely amazing and, most importantly, versatile. You can get so many sounds out of this thing that you realistically wouldn't need any other amp for gigs or recording unless you're an audiophile/perfectionist. Almost any band sound that you'd like is just a community created patch away, it's truly incredible, as long as you have a PC/Mac/Android device plugged into it. The sounds that are built in are still amazing, just a little limited and require some learning to use the effects. Still, you won't find anything near this price that gets you the same quality sound, volume, or variety of uses. The learning curve is nothing compared to the thought and cost of trying/buying dozens of guitar effect pedals – which you can still do, or even use this as an amplified cab for your preamp of choice. If you have a few hundred dollars to try something new then it's worth it. Also worth it if you're looking to upgrade from a practice amp, or need an amp to gig, or don't have the money for pedals, or need to record on your computer, or many other situations. BOSS created the product like a boss, and confirms it's the boss on this market. I own the old 50 watt Katana and the Katana Mini. Both are great. Just bought the Katana 100 mk2, and yes, after whole day spent on setting and playing – I love it. Whatever you need – crispy or warm cleans, crunch or hi-gain sounds you will get it from this amp. Plus – lot of BOSS stomp boxes available as plugins (7 at a time, where 5 manageable by additional GA-FC foot switch). Bit ugly, but fully working BOSS Tone Studio software for setting each aspect of this amp and available effects). Total 9 presets (channel Ax4, channel Bx4 plus "Panel"). Combined with switchable effects quite ok to play a gig. Considering the price/value ratio this amp is an unbeatable champion on the market. I bought a week ago KATAlist from some multi-Line company, and I am sending it back. That thing is good only for couch, while Katana is great for practicing, recording and life shows (assuming you will buy the foot controller). To summarize: – great sounding – very flexible – very nicely priced – relatively small and lightweight You can't go wrong buying it.
Paired this head with my Zilla Cabs 2 x 12 and the sound quality and versatility is excellent. I have 4 well known valve amps, but I find that the Katana is more useful for home playing and practice, mainly because it's easier to get good tones from it at home volumes. It's handy having the Boss effects built in, certainly some of my dedicated pedals sound better but for home practice and recording, the Katana is a simpler plug and play solution. This is a great example of something that conforms to the 80/20 rule, if it does 80% of what I need, why waste time chasing down that other 20%? In fact, I'd say it's more like 90/10 in this case, the Katana MkII is a a great Swiss Army Knife of an amp.

I had previously bought a Roland 80GX but it required too much tweaking to get the sound I was looking for. So I still wasn't satisfied. When I was playing out in the early nineties I was using an all tube Carvin half-stack which was pretty basic…clean or distorted with reverb and very loud. Great amp but I eventually sold that because it was way too much for home use, and frankly, it sounded best when cranked up. I teach guitar now and I don't intend on playing out again, but I still wanted an amp that was simple to use, solid state so I wouldn't be concerned about replacing tubes, and would be powerful enough to do a gig if I ever got swayed into that again. The only built-in effect on the Bandit is reverb which is all I want besides distortion. I've read that it takes pedals great but I haven't gotten around to trying any. The best thing about this amp (for me) is that I can stop searching for the amp I want. This one is perfect. Clean or dirty, it has great sound and can get seriously loud. For my purposes it also sounds very good at low volume.Russ
Overall: I was able to gig with the unit twice before I had to send it back for exchange. The one I got had issues that occurred,buzz started to happen when nothing is plug in and even when all the controls are set to zero,buzz is still fairly loud!and then the three way switch in the rear panel that switches from 100%-50%-25% does not engage to 25% percent. yes this amp is loud! and last of all you have to buy the peavey footswitch….The Great news is, this amp sounds very good both clean and dirty channel. The cleans can be dialed well(fendery!) and takes Overdrive/Distortion well and that's if you need a pedal. The Lead channel has great gain depending on what you use it for! I like the classic Overdrive/Distortion(aka- marshall) setting allot. I play in two different bands, the first band I'm in plays Rock/Alternative,Twang Rock,Blues Rock,Heavy Rock, Responds real well to volume knob adjustments on the guitar during live playing. The other band is more Funk,Jazz fusion,Gospel,R-n-B type and this amp does it well without any pedals! and that's what I bought this amp for! basically I don't wanna use pedals,just amp cable,guitar and the footswitch to switch from clean to dirty and solo boost when needed. And it does it very well! I dig this amp allot. All the features and especially the solo boost function is awesome! the effect loop works well. I hook up my Boss DD20 with two 15ft cables(not live just for home use!) and there was hardly any tone lost or I could not tell at all. And this is coming from an overly picky Guitar Player. This amp is well thought out by Peavey Engineers and last of all its pretty light amp!Now I just have to wait for the other Peavey Bandit to be delivered to my front door and hope its trouble free!,and thank you zZounds for taking care of business, you always took care of me when there were unexpected issues and you got on top of it fast. Everyone treats this like either a country/blues amp, or a metal amp. But it does fantastic tones for bands in between. Think Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World, Kings of Leon, The Gaslight Anthem, Death Cab… those in-between tones…it NAILS them. The amp sounds tube. And i mean that. And i've played/owned a LOT of expensive tube amps. I love this thing. Sounds great. Is it a JCM800, Princeton, AC30, or Deluxe? No. It's not. But it can get amazing ballpark sounds. And I dont mean "Line 6, Fender Mustang" ballpark, I mean close your eyes and it would take a discerning ear. Sounds great at low volume but absolutely keeps up with a drummer at half volume. I can gig with mine no problem. If I HAD to pick something to gripe about, it's that by now the new ones should have the 3 different overdrive types foot-switchable. As it is, you can switch between clean and overdrive. But you set which type of overdrive (vintage, modern, high gain) at the amp and if you want to change your OD type you have to do so with your hands. This is an extremely minor complaint though and I'm being crazy picky. Especially considering that between a tube-screamer, Joyo AC Tone and the vintage channel, I can get every sound I'll ever use. I'm not really into the heavy stuff, but it does do that very well too. Oh also, it takes pedals like a tube amp. I've read reviews from people who say that it doesn't and they must be insane. Also..i dont know why the youtube videos comparing them to fender amps sound so muddy or dark, that is DEFINITELY a settings problem. I can get mine sounding VERY fender. I just received the MV50 Clean, to be used as a backup to my Carvin Nomad guitar amp, and I carefully unpacked it because I assumed it was not going to be powerful enough. Well holy crap – I was wrong. Connected to the 1×12 Celestion Neo Creamback in my Carvin amp (8 ohm), it was loud. I set all controls at mid-point and the deep switch on and I was amazed. The tonal quality surprised as did the volume it kicked out. I then added an extension cabinet (with an 8 ohm Eminence 10" Alpha speaker) so I could load this little dynamo with 4 ohms, and, again, I was taken aback. Loud, yes, but also full sounding and clean. I cannot find any faults with it so far. Using it as a backup amp – sure. Using it as a main amp – it can do it! It is a keeper.
I'm running this through a 1×12 Bugera cab (which to my ear is a pretty neutral speaker, but sounds great). Unless your band plays way too loud this amp should give you enough volume for gigging (even at 25 watts through an 8 ohm speaker). Takes pedals well – all of my drive pedals sound great. The MV50 reacts like my tube amps with a boost pedal in front (Fulltone & Xotic). I really like the attenuator, and at home I play at 1/100 power with the volume at about noon. While this amp has a lot of clean headroom you will start to get some hair when you push it, but in a good way. It's the kind of sound where you can play clean by picking lightly but if you hit it hard you'll hear that you're on the edge of breakup. Not surprising for a Vox, this is not a mid-scooped Fender clean. Mids are present, but not pushed. It is a warm clean, not sterile or spikey at all to my ear. I've been playing this primarily with a Boss Fender reverb pedal and the tone really is glorious. I don't feel like I'm missing anything from my tube amps. Not a thing. I wish I'd had this thing years ago when I was throwing my back out moving 60lb tube amps to and from gigs. What I don't like. The unit feels very solid, seems like a quality piece of gear, but the mini chicken head knobs on the front feel cheap (a minor complaint). Mainly I don't like how much they have crammed on the back panel. You've got tiny switches for power, flat/deep, eco (shuts it off after 15 min. of non-use) and the attenuator, as well as headphone/line out & speaker out. Once you get a speaker cable plugged in it feels very cramped. I'd much rather that the power switch was on the front. Lastly, I wish I could get 50 watts @ 8 ohms, just for the headroom. This is giggable for me at 25 watts into 8 ohms & still gives you good headroom, but YMMV. I primarily use single coils. With hot humbuckers I don't know if you'd run out of clean headroom or not. First – let me say that this is a good, tiny pedal-platform amp, if that's what you're looking for. It has a very good base clean tone and it takes pedals well. I think most players looking to downsize would find this usable. If all you need is a good clean tone – for jazz, say – take a listen to one of these. I find the 4 ohm thing a bummer. I don't own any 4 ohm cabs, and after thinking about jumping through hoops to get all 50w available to me, I decided it wasn't worth it. This amp sounds really good, but at the very least for clean headroom, anyone looking for a pedal platform usually wants to control where the edge of breakup is, or have it totally clean. Beyond that, there's just too much crammed onto the (very small) back of the amp. Tiny switches plus the speaker out jack just mean it's hard to find the on/off switch, etc. Put the power switch on the front so I don't have to hunt for it. After having the MV50 a while I decided to try a DV Mark Micro 50 – and I like it better than the Vox. It's more versatile with 3 band EQ, and I have a full 50w to play with. Overall I prefer the DV Mark – I just feel it suits my clean & light OD tones better than the Vox. But if I had to gig with the Vox I'd be OK with it. Having said that, several months ago I came across a great deal on a Blues Cube Hot EL84 (more Vox-ish tone than the standard) and frankly, it blows the other two away. It's a combo, of course. So I'm keeping the DV Mark as a backup. The Vox has gone. Anyone looking to downsize should give one of these a listen. There is good to great tone in there, depending on your needs. Again – the 4 ohm load to get 50w is a bummer. But not everyone needs that much power. The small box is pretty cute and a cool conversation starter – but for practical purposes something slightly larger would've been a better idea, IMO.Mr. Joe

Recently bought this thing after saving up for months. I pretty much ripped it out of the box, plugged it in, powered it on, went through the very quick and simple setup process, and in minutes it was ready for use. I’ve now had it for a few days and already it has made my life a ton easier. Being a musician that goes on the road a lot, carrying around an amp can be a huge hassle. The Kemper eliminates that hassle, while also maintaining an amazing tone. A few things to keep in mind, though:
1. It doesn’t create an EXACT carbon copy of your amp, but it comes EXTREMELY close, so close in fact that I, having played guitar for around 7 years, can barely tell the difference, and the very microscopic differences there are, are nothing that can’t be ironed out with small tweaking to the EQ, specifically the high end
2. The volume may vary depending on how the venue has their sound system set up, so that’s something to be mindful of. You may switch on and blow eardrums at some places, or you may switch on and barely hear anything in other places, so be mindful of that.
3. You will have an amazing tone, so just be mindful of that as well. Even the stock profiles sound great, but the Kemper is taken to a whole new level once you start using your own profiles, as well as commercially sold profiles, such as the ones from Tone Junkie.
The built in Performance mode also allows for a seamless switch between up to five different rigs at the click of a button, which would be impossible to do using only analog gear.
The Kemper can be a pretty big learning curve, though, especially for people like me, who have used analog gear for years, and were even leery of making the switch to digital at first. But after the initial learning curve and getting familiar with it, I promise you will be glad you made the switch.Brandon Johnson
I bought the 600w version after a ton of research and inner debate. I had solid state rack stuff in the early 90's and hated it. It always had something missing from the tone, it seemed shallow and fake. I turned into a die hard tube guy after that. I pledged never to buy any computer amp ever again. I dismissed the Kemper at first. But once I saw some videos and heard some profiles, I was a little interested. I couldn't get past buying a computer and having 1000's of tones at the turn of a knob. Once I heard it live, thru a cabinet in a rehearsal space, I was floored and very surprised. My friend went from a 68 Marshall to a 6505 to a Fender Twin Reverb with a turn of a knob in seconds. I've owned very expensive tube amps with very distinct tone signatures I thought could not be replicated. I was 100% wrong. I profiled my Engl head and did a blind test to see if I could tell the difference in tone once I shaped it up. I honestly couIdn't tell the difference. When I guessed, I picked the Kemper 4 out of 5 times. I went to the rig exchange and found a profile that was reasonably close to a 59 plexi. I tweaked it for 10 minutes. Within that 10 minutes, I saved thousands on a new tube amp. The Kemper is a perfect fit for the skeptic. There's a million forums and tutorials out there so you'll never feel lost. Once you learn the menus and how to dial in a tone or profile an amp, you're hooked. This is the most versitle amp I've ever owned. I am completely satisified.Rob
Like the title says, you can find 1000's of these for sale used and there's good reason for that. It doesn't sound like tube at all. I think it's good for the studio where I've used one. But live? If you're fine with a solid state head, then fine. The modeling really isn't any better than higher end Line 6 modeling. This past labor day, Great White was playing a festival near by. They had a total of 8 Marshall 4×12's on stage with 4 DSL 100 heads. Not one of them was powered on. So I looked around for what they were going to use, I saw 2 Kemper Profiler heads. 1 for each guitarist. The sound was absolutely terrible. Neither amp sounded anything close to a Marshall or like tube for that matter. You could hear the cab emulation a mile away. At this price point go another direction. Have the Spark 40 and am very happy with it. The Mini, not so much. Biggest issue is that it is much to easy to overdrive the speakers, especially the bass. It is not very loud. It's OK for a small quiet room, but I really can't use it outdoors on the patio. It works best sitting on a reflective surface like a table. You don't want the bottom mount bass speaker facing, say, a rug. I love the iPhone / iPad app. It has a good variety of amps and pedals, but you really can't get the same sound as a tube amp like my Blues Jr IV. While it has a variety of reverb pedals, it does not have spring reverb. A big disappointment. I really like that it is battery powered, usb chargeable and really like the Bluetooth speaker function.Dave
I fell in love with the capability of the PG Spark 40 and I had to have this mini for it's portability! I pre-ordered mine direct from Positive Grid when they were running their pre-production discounts. I've been playing on and off for about 30 years. I wish this was available then instead of that clunky, weak Squire 15 amp I started with. The app for Android and iPhone opens up all kinds of possibilities! A starting musician and use the features to play along to their favorite songs or you can look up backing tracks to tinker along with. The standard hardware sounds are very warm, and the tone cloud gives you access to an unfathomable amount of tones modeled after near all of your favorite artists! It is more than enough to appeal to the budding guitarist to keep you interested! And for more experienced players, the options that are part of this thing are incredible, and will have you noodling with your Sunday morning coffee before you know it! The sound and tone quality from such a small amp is amazing! It sounds huge. You will quickly forget you are playing through a 6 inch cube. There are a bunch of amps and effects to create your own sound, and the Smart Jam and play along features are both fun and inspiring. Plus, the various tones in the ToneCloud are great for matching a tone to a song you are learning to play. Believe the hype from the reviews online. I will say that this is amp may not be for everyone. At 10 watts, it is not loud enough to gig with. Plus, I would not recommend this for a first amp. There are a lot of options that can be overwhelming for beginners, and the limited on-board options do not allow for simple plug and play. Beginners may want to start with something like a Black Star ID Code. There are also a few things I am not crazy about. Because of the limited on-board controls, 6 to 8 presets would have been better, plus the default presets are not that good. The amp models in the app are OK, but some sound too similar, plus each amp has the same knobs (Gain, Bass, Middle, High and Volume). Nothing to distinguish one amp model from another (Channels, Presence knob, Intensity knob, etc.). The same goes for the reverb pedals (each has 6 knobs whether or not the pedal being replicated has 6 options). The Vox Tone room has better amp and effect modeling but does not have all of the other jamming and recording options. So all of that being said, this amp is still fantastic for someone with some knowledge of amps (for example, the difference between gain and volume) and is looking for something small and discrete to play around the house (or apartment) that does not want to sacrifice tone quality. The battery power is nice for playing anywhere without having to plug it in. I've played mine for a couple hours without having to recharge. It is also a great option if you want to record your work. All in all, this is an innovative amp that is just fun to play, has a ton of options and sounds way too good for its size. Get one, you'll love it!Dan

I have never offered a product review for any product but I had to make an exception for this one. I am 69 years old, have been playing music for over 50 years, and I have just begun learning the harmonica. This amp is perfect for me for a number of reasons. First of all, it's portable. I can take it anywhere – from my living room – to that picnic table at the park – to my guitar player's front porch. I've had it for a while and I'm still on the batteries that came with it. (You can get an optional power supply for it if you want.) Second – it sounds great and has plenty of volume for personal practice and for use in small settings. With the GAIN and VOLUME controls, you can easily get the response you want. The EQ control only makes a subtle difference in frequency response but nothing dramatic. The DELAY function, however, is very effective and fun to use. Next – a variety of additional input and output jacks make it very flexible. I can plug in my MP3 player and play along with a backing track, for example. It also has a headphone jack, an extension speaker jack, and a DC power jack. Finally – and most importantly – It's fun to use and, because of that, I find myself practicing longer and enjoying it more. I'm new at holding a mic and at first it felt awkward. Now, because the FLY 3W is so much fun to use, holding the mic has become second nature. OK – now you're waiting for the downside. Well, other than the EQ control comments I made earlier, I don't have any. At first, I thought it could benefit from a handle but, upon closer inspection, I discovered the recessed finger grip on the top of the case. (Very clever Blackstar.) First things first; this combo pack DOES include the power supply but batteries are NOT included in the combo pack. Despite the great reviews, don't expect this to sound like a full-size amp; the small speaker mean this amp lacks low end. The pair does sound OK playing in stereo music through the aux input; good detail and sound quality except for the missing bass. As a practice amp, especially through headphones, this thing rocks; with the ISF control you can make it sound like a Fender or a Marshall Amp. Cleans are good but the high gain channel can sound a bit messy if you crank it to 11. The amplifier is more than loud enough for home practice even without doubling the power to 6 watts by adding the second speaker. I don't own a full-size electric amp but I've found out that running the cab-simulated headphone output into my acoustic amp's aux input gives an excellent equivalent so I probably won't bother with a 'real' electric guitar amp; this setup sounds sooo good.Dave W
I was very pleasantly surprised and the range of EQ and the control of compression the Fly 3Bass gives me, not only a great practice amp but mic it up through a PA and it sounds amazing. Great running on batteries (last about 12 hours) or mains. I did a back garden set with couple of friends on acoustic guitars me on electric bass via Fly 3 and it sounded really good so i am very pleased with my purchase. Only thing i had to do was back off tone and bass enhancer on my active bass as it slightly overpowered the amp but i get that on my stage rig as well so expected that.Barry J.

I bought this amp to have a small, cheap portable amp to play harmonica through. For that, it is decent enough. I use a Shure bullet mic and the amp produces good enough tone and is plenty loud for practice or small gigs. When I plug my tele into it the clean channel is decent and clear, but the overdrive channel is junk and hurts my ears. I would rather run the clean channel and use a fuzz or distortion pedal. So that being said it is decent enough to practice licks on and it is tiny so it tucks away easy. If you look around you can find a bigger amp with more features used for the same price but if you want a new amp, this one is probably worth what they charge for it. I would only buy it if you have a specific purpose for it though.Roy
It's small, and pretty portable. However, the sound quality is trash, given the speaker is tiny, but the overdrive is just horrible. If you buy this, try returning it. If you can't return it, just get a fuzz pedal and leave it on clean. Imo, just buy the mustang lt25-50Hotdog Games
I actually bought it 4 years ago, but realized I never wrote a review. It's surprising how light it is, almost felt like a toy. That being said, it's sturdily built, just very, very lightweight which is quite nice. I do mostly clean channel playing, not really much into heavy rocking much anymore. For clean channel playing, this little amp has a great sound. It puts out quite a bit of volume. I have used it playing for church and was more than enough volume to be heard with folks singing. The distortion is just okay, which is what kept me from giving the amp a 5-star review. But, most folks who want to rock out, probably aren't going for a 10-watt amp anyway. The distortion is decent enough for use in practice or playing along to your own music collection.

Sound: I write and play original jazz, blues, country, and ballads mostly in various finger styles. All my guitars and all these of these musical styles sound better on this TM Deluxe than on any amp I've ever played through or heard. Features: This amp has every feature of the original, except the weight and the ever-flaky tubes. The only missing feature is an external speaker jack (although the onboard speaker is *much* better than boutique amps costing lots more money). Musicians drool over this amp. Then they pick it up. Then they decide to buy one. Ease of Use: Easy to get great sounds – no learning curve – as long as you're using a really good guitar. Each knob responds just like the original Deluxe, except that the reverb is usable (and interesting) right up to 10 (not true of any Fender tube reverb). Quality: Very good quality construction. Should last for many years or reliable performance. Value: It's well worth the money! Manufacturer Support: No problems with this amp (either mine or my friend's who got one for his birthday), so I haven't contacted Fender about it for any reason. The Wow Factor: It's beautiful and the sound quality is superb. Overall: I'm a 74-year-old singer/songwriter who's been playing professionally for 60 years. I bought this blonde Tone Master Deluxe in July 2021 from zZounds. With an XLR cable from its integrated direct interface, I plug it into the house Mackie 16-track mixer most Saturday mornings and play on a live radio show that's been going for over 30 years – I've played most Saturdays for the past 5 years. I owned a 1960s Vibrolux Reberb and a 1970s Twin Reverb for years – neither one sounded as good as this TM Deluxe – and both broke down every other show and weighed *way* too much. Every Saturday morning, I get warm compliments on the sound of this TM Deluxe from audience members and other musicians. It's well worth the money! All that beautiful tone and neither a tube nor a capacitor will every give out right at the start of your gig. I gave one of these as a birthday present to an old friend in Detroit this fall (youngest person ever inducted in the Hall of Fame by the Detroit Blues Society). He has a whole lot of amps in his studio, but the TM Deluxe is the only one that he's using anymore for recording and for gigs.Ira
I bought this amp a couple of weeks ago, we're still closed down for COVID 19 where I live so I haven't used it at club volume yet but judging from at-home tinkering, its got plenty of volume. I have a silver face deluxe reverb and a reissue to compare this to and really, I'm surprised at how accurately Fender reproduced that punchy sound that's unique to the deluxe reverb. They've added a couple of, shall we say, quirky features. It has a "mute" switch where the standby switch would normally be, even though there's no need for standby on a solid state amp. The mute switch feels flimsy compared to the power switch, I'll probably just leave that on all the time. Time will tell how it holds up. Even though Fender doesn't mention it in the literature, they've made a fake warm-up, as if the tubes were powering up, except there are no tubes. There is a 10 or 15 second delay between turning it on to sound coming out. I don't understand the reasoning behind the fake warm-up but OK, it doesn't hurt anything. The amp has 100 watts, it take more solid state watts to replicate the tube sound and performance and again, it really sounds a lot like the traditional tube amp. On the back panel is a sort-of power attenuator that's got six settings labeled from 0.2 watts to full / 22 watts. The labeling doesn't have anything to do with the actual power output, I guess it has to do with keeping the 22 watt tube vibe. The attenuator is actually quite useful. The lowest setting is great for in-home practice and the other settings are much louder but let it break up at lower volumes until you hit full power which sounds like it's louder and cleaner with more headroom than the tube versions. Overall, I'm happier with this purchase than I thought I'd be. The amp is light and easy to carry, no tubes to go bad in the middle of a gig, great practice amp and I expect it will perform well at club volume when and if we ever get back to that.Johnny Rockabilly

I bought this amp based on the good print reviews and the way it sounded in you Tube reviews. I did a lot of homework and finally placed my order. I was excited when it showed up at my house and plugged my Jay Turser Les Paul copy right in. Boy, is this thing dark! I turned all the tone controls to 10. I changed the strings. I removed the covers from my pickups- that just made it dark and tinny. After three days I decided that I had to either send it back or make some changes. I took the speaker from a Squier 15 amp and installed it in the Bugera. Right away there was more life and clarity to the sound, though it still sounded tinny (because it's a speaker from a Squier 15), but it was some progress. Next I pulled tubes from a circa 1959 Curtis-Mathes console stereo and swapped them into the Bugera. Now we were getting somewhere- the overtones, the reason we use tubes, were now present and accounted for. The same console is full of Oxford speakers, which are a Jensen knockoff and well respected. I took an 8" from that and installed it in the V5. OH YEAH! Now this is a great little amp. The clean tones are super sweet, clear, full and bell-like with tons of sustain. The overdrive has a huge range of grit, and the reverb is better than any other amp I've had. So after installing a set of +/- 60 year old tubes and speaker, it sounds great. But out-of-the-box stock, I would have sent it back, no question. If you have a too-bright guitar or are willing to make upgrades, this amp is a super value. My one complaint about build quality is that the wattage selector switch is extremely touchy- it goes from .1 to 5 watts and has to be fiddled with to get it to stay on the 1 watt setting.Farmhand
This week I bought a duellist overdrive pedal from king of Tone, the Revival Drive from Origin Effects and this lovely little amp. The two pedals cost nearly £700 between them and the Bugera only £189 but my favourite tone comes from the Bugera itself largely because the built in attenuator allows you to really cook the single valves at pre amp and power amp stage without annoying the neighbours. This makes the Bugera a lot of fun. It’s tone control could be improved to raise the brightness but for the price I’m not complaining. This is definitely more of a British than an American tweed sound. And the addition of pedals – which it takes well – can potentially increase the brightness. The onboard 8 inch speaker is fine for practice and the amp is just about portable enough to use for travel. The speaker jack is accessible on the back panel, so it can be swapped easily for a guitar cabinet if you wanted to gig this machine or open up the sound (it’s 5 watts can still be loud enough for small venues). If, like me, you have been dependent on fender amps for home playing and you want a good alternative ‘Marshall’ sound at bedroom levels, then look no further!
Perfect at home tube amp. I generally use 1 watt mode. Great tone whether clean or breakup. Loves my telecaster and Boss BD-2 into it, and takes pedals great in general. Couldn’t get over how nice it looked when I unboxed mine, either. Beautiful looking amp on top of sounding great. Really an incredible value. Was looking for a small light weight amp whilst away from home, not wanting to lug around my heavy tube amp, cab and good sized pedal board. This amp fit's the bill perfectly. This amp sounds great, the onboard effects sound good to my ear. And I also like the controls on this amp. Simple layout that makes it easy and fast to dial in a decent sound. If you need more flexibility the architect software, which is a free download from Blackstar, is straight forward to use giving you even more flexibility. Another thing I like about this amp is as I'm away I often need to us headphones, no to disturb the neighbours, through the architect software, you can change the cab simulation from 112, 212, 412, even choose what mic simulation is used, which I think it's an excellent addition to this already impressive small amp. This amp also sounds great through its built-in speakers, giving it a great stereo sound. For this price I honestly cannot fault it, I did look at other amps but settled for this. And I'm so glad I did. This amp is a bargain!!Lesley C.
I hate amp hunting. I wanted something small and specific for a home studio. Shiny cleans with some grit too? Quality build? Under $600? I searched the used listings for weeks trying to find a deal. Nothing really GETS me. Finally, utterly sick of shopping, I walked into Sam Ash, saw this thing on the shelf and just bought it. Didnt try it. Just read the specs online, read a few reviews and snagged it. I figure, worst case scenario I'll return it tomorrow. Let me say, the sound from this amp is just so incredibly nice. Even without pedals, the built in reverb sounds very good. Not splashy, more like a plate reverb. Adding a transparent overdrive makes my G&L ASAT sound like a tone monster. I have no specific affinity for Blackstar. Never owned a single one of their products and I am totally blown away by this thing. I don't know a thing about the tonal waveforms and harmonic frequencies of the most expensive boutique amps but, on a stage or studio I'd put this amp up to pretty much anything. It FEELS good. It sounds good. Between my guitar and an overdrive pedal and the tone knob on the amp itself, I'm able to pull at least 6 very distinct tones before I even engage the dirty channel. I bought this amp a few months ago after LOTS of research, having finally decided to replace my previous amp of about 20 years! (A Marshall AVT half stack) Firstly, it looks amazing IMO and build quality looks and feels great too. I play in two bands, one playing southern rock, the other heavy rock/classic metal so needed something that was going to cover a pretty wide range of sounds. The Blackstar handles it amazingly! Wonderful warm crunches all the way to chugalicious highly saturated metal gains. The high gains are so smooth and creamy too and not 'scratchy'. (Something I always struggled with with the AVT) The clarity is also pretty amazing at high gain too. Individual notes can be picked out clearly and not just lost in a fuzzy mush. The 2 OD channels work perfectly for the two separate sounds I'm looking for to suit each band, with Voicing on each channel giving even more versatility. This amp produces beautiful cleans too, which can also break up nicely if you push the clean channel volume up. I'd also really recommend the optional 5-way footswitch, shame this doesn't come as standard, but hey..! All in all, I'm absolutely over the moon with this amp. It can do everything from sparkling cleans to tasty crunch and up to all the gain you could wish for. I've even been able to get THAT Stevie Ray Vaughan tone! 😍 But not only that, it's not some 'Jack of all trades, master of none'…it absolutley nails all of these brilliantly! This amp delivers the sound I've been looking for elusively for years now, funny that Blackstar's slogan is "The Sound In Your Head"… Big thanks to the team at PMT Newcastle when testing the 40 Watt version, and the distribution team for the speedy next day delivery!Davey S.

One of the best combo amps I have ever played or heard. Playing for 55 yrs and have owned or played almost every American and Brit amp in that time from Marshall Matchless and Orange, to Hiwatt to Fender and Two Rock. This amp is right up there in the top 10. The cleans are beautiful and full of nuance the distortion goes from tweed- like to almost full on metal. I have read the reviews from detractors of this amp claiming the cleans are dull or the distortion is fizzy. I don't get it. Perhaps they need their hearing checked? These are the same people that claim a pure hand wired amp has the best tone ever and then slam the front end with pedals containing op amps and digital components and claim the distortion is fantastic! Go figure… I have replaced the speaker with a WGS ET90 (cream back clone) and the tubes with nos: V1:RCA, V2: RFT, Power: Siemens EL34. It is simply STUNNING.Keith Morrison
I've owned a Peavey 5150 212 combo back in the day, a H&K 20 watt tube, and used everything from Marshall to Mesa, Vox and Fender, and everything in between. This amp is simply the best tone I've ever heard out of an amp, period. I originally owned the first rendition of the HT series, with the smaller 20 watt amp, which was great but lacked the "super saturated lead" voicing on the HT40. I exchanged the 20 for the 40, and enjoyed the power, incredible tones, and durability of the original HT40 for years. Fast forward to recent times, when I was trying to go smaller, and tried out many modeling amps, as I didn't think I needed the full blown power of a 40 watt valve amp anymore. Needless to say, modelling amps still sound weak, harsh, and digital to my ears, and probably always will. I ended up buying the MK2, and they actually managed to improve my favorite amp of all time. This amp has stunning clean tones, and wonderful options for a modern or more boutique voicing, and two different reverb styles. Really, the cleans I get from this Blackstar from my tele are simply incredible, maybe not Fender level, but darn close. This is the one amp I've tried that has absolutely stunning clean tones AND brutal crunch and overdrive. This amp can play ANYTHING you throw at it, from metal to country, jazz and punk, and everything you can imagine. There an emulated out for recording, a switch that outputs only 10% of the wattage and turns it into a 4watt amp, giving you incredible saturation and warmth even at low volumes. I truly cannot say enough good things about it, I am a Blackstar customer for life after my first HT40, as they truly blew me away with the tone and features. The ISF is essential to me, and can transform the tone of this amp significantly. IMO, the high gain of this amp is miles ahead of even the Peavey 6505.B. Free Productions
As many have stated, if any amp could be a "swiss army knife" of tone, this would be it. The clean channel is fantastic, and has a lot of tone shaping ability between eq settings and changing between bright and dark reverb. The drive channel has a lot of variance as well, and can cover tons of ground – anything from blues, classic rock, to flat out metal.
Where it falls flat is the PCB assembly. Flux was still all over the board, and solder joints had voids in areas and were very poorly done. I believe many of the reliability issues others have reported are due to the poor PCB assembly. It's a fairly easy fix that shouldn't cost much more than $100 by a local reputable amp guy to redo bad/cold solder joints and strip the flux off the board. Despite this handicap, it is undoubtedly worth every penny. If you play through one and love it, don't let this scare you away.David Moore

This amp is FUN. The sound quality is great, and it is packed full of amp models, effects, and pre programed drum loops. That combined with a 40 sec looper, and it's become the most effective practice tool I own. And it's so simple, I don't need a bunch of equipment, it's all in the amp. This amp has a great range of sounds, including some earthy grungey stuff, and weird vocoder setting. The most all-round versatility of this unit is a combination of the Rhythm section, the separate input and control of the Mic, and the Looper section. With up to 10W of output this unit can entertain more than just yourself. I like the tri-select of output power, (especially when the missus wants to watch tv!). The footswitch to select between effects, rhythm and looper is more essential rather than desirable, yet it cost me another $100+ to buy, which seems like a lot for just switch (although it's heavy duty). The only other downside is the rhythm tempo switch, which needs a guess in the time between button presses to alter timing. This would be better done and made more repeatable with a rotary switch. Great little portable unit, and my new GoTo.David M. C.

I own an older Victoria version of the 80W blues cube. It has two rows of controls, two channels and a "lead" selection that adds extra punch. But you might not ever use that, the natural sound of this amp is superb. The clean is not a clean as the Roland Jazz Chorus, maybe not as sparkly as the Fender Twin Reverb. But the clean is perfect for the type of music you buy that amp for, blues, blues/rock, country… Whether the Artist 80W or the Stage 60W you can't go wrong with these amps. I do not have a sound pack tube installed and I get plenty of tone and power. I do have a switch to select between solid state "diode" or tube logic technology "tube" tone. I can tell a difference, the "Tube" selection sounds warmer and when playing softly on clean setting it sounds just right but when I really bight down on strings I get a little bit of break up tone like a tube amp gives — that tone that you can feel as well as hear. Best amp for the money, easy. If you are a 100% tube amp person I'd say give one a try for a while and Roland might change your opinion.SlowLaneCruiser
The BC is an 85 watt, solid state 2X12 guitar combo. No modelling or loads of effects. It's based on the Fender Tweed series of amps from the 1950's and has tremolo & reverb built in. There is a 'clean' channel that will dirty up and a crunch channel that will overdrive. Normal 3 band EQ, master volume & presence plus a boost for each channel and a tone button that gives extra treble and bass leaving the middle to where you have set it. Very useful and effective. There is a foot-switch available, but it's an additional £75 which is, in my opinion a bit expensive. I use only the clean channel set to slightly breaking up, so I can do without the foot control although it would be nice to use the boost facility from a single foot switch, but this wont work. You have to get the large and expensive Roland GA-FC . You can however switch channels with a Boss FS-5L. There is some misleading info around about this, so bare it in mind. As for the amp itself..Brilliant…The closest I've heard to a real valve amp. More than enough power (that's switchable on the amp from 85 watts down to .5 of a watt) for band/gig use and great for recording with the line out or USB out facility. It takes all types of stomp boxes very well and is a good deal lighter to carry than most 2X12 valve amps I've come across. I'm gigging the amp (Rockabilly/rock'n'roll) and the other band members say it gives an authentic, and more than loud enough sound. (I generally use the 45 watt setting with master volume on 3 ). Apart from the niggle of not being able to operate the boost facility from a single footswitch, I can't fault the amp. Bit pricey, but it's a Roland.. High quality and bomb-proof. All analogue, no digital nonsense.. A real sturdily built gigging amp that should outlast me.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
I finally pulled the trigger on a digital amp. I've been playing guitar for 36 years. Started with a fender blues deluxe and then a fender deluxe reverb. Traded everything in for Peavey classic and an American Strat in 1996, played with just it and a Strat for over 20 years. Was really happy with that combination but had to get some ambient pedals as I stated playing space rock music. I started upgrading my rig. Decided to buy some Custom shop guitars and boutique amps. Got a Bogner and a Budda. Both awesome amps, but actually missed my Peavey. After so many years with just the Peavey and Strat made me really get the feel of that set up. Getting the BCA was like getting my Peavey classic back on steroids. I dialed in my old Peavey clean and dirt in about 5 mins. But from there it's even more versatile, the Bassman character and tones are really awesome to my playing style and ear. I've been having a lot of fun playing this amp. To be honest it is my favorite amp out of all that I have played on. I feel confident that I can get the sounds and tones I want out of it at any volume level. So easy to get it dialed in. My back up plan was to get a Tweed Blues Jr if I still needed to have a tube amp on hand, but right now I'm thinking I will probably get a Blues Cube Hot instead. I'll give it a month or two to make sure, but honestly this thing sounds every bit as good to me as any tube amp I've had. Now I can just spend my time playing.Bradley

Incredibile ampli, da diverso tempo seguo la Blackstar per i loro prodotti e la cura dei suoni, li ho consigliati a anche a chi conosco ricevendo anche ottimi feedback e ringraziamenti… incuriosito dalle varie recensioni e prove che si trovano in rete in tutte le lingue l'ho preso. Provato a casa a 2w e devo dire che sono anche troppi forse… si può comunque suonare in saturazione ma non troppo, ottima risposta dei pots bassi-medi-alti in comune con i due canali, suono incredibile e bellissimo. Provato a 50w a massimo gain e 3/4 di volume su canale 2 distorto, resa sonora incredibile, potenza strabordante, suono caldo e saturo. Ha due canali, forse il pulito è stato un po' trascurato, ha solo il volume ma non ha gain né la funzione voice per enfatizzare le frequenze, un buon pulito non ovviamente tipo fender ma comunque molto neutro, il che lo rende versatile per l'uso di pedaliere ed effetti di tutti i tipi (provati pure quelli) anche diretti in input e non in send/return, la risposta e la resa sonora sono comunque incredibili. Il distorto oltre al suo gain ha la funzione Voice per enfatizzare un po' le frequenze, quasi come un boost per i solo. Un buon riverbero digitale, fa il suo mestiere. Ultimo, ma non da poco, ha un suo reactive load interno per simulare sistemi di cabinet/mic (comprando questi aggeggi da soli costano centinaia di euro), …e una porta Usb per collegare al pc sul quale installa il sw di simulazione cabinet…insomma, si può usare anche per home recording con risultati assurdi. Veramente un ottimo ampli! da valutare l'acquisto solo se si ha un uso maggiore dei suoni puliti per cui forse non è adatto (o forse e' meglio la sua versione con tube El34), questo 6l6 sprigiona tutta la sua potenza di fuoco sul canale 2.

Sound: This amp sounds great when it works. Quality: I went through 2 of them within a year. Something with the bias. When I check the bias on 1 amp it reads 0. On the other the one power setting that works (100watt) the bias only reads 4.3..?????? And it goes in and out not putting out full volume. Bad amp. Overall: I first bought this app and loved it until it started popping and going in and out then it totally died I went crazy and ordered another one and the same thing happened to that just it only works on 100watt. The tubes don’t bias and it goes in and out. 2 amps shot. I don’t recommend buying one of these.
Title says it all. I like the amp and am keeping it. The super leads were generally known for one type of sound and the DSL follows that sound well. For classic sounds it can't replace a 1959 or a 2203 but it can come close enough in a pinch. For all the ranges of more distortion it sounds great. Clean sounds are a bit disappointing. Adding a little bit of gain to the clean to get that edge of breakup sound or a little bit of light gritty clean gets pretty strong on the lows. Flubby came to mind but I'm not sure that's how most people use it. You can get an ok clean sound but it's not that flexible. The strength of the amp is the distortion. I liked all 3 of the distortion settings. You can get some pretty decent dynamics from messing with your attack and guitar volume even on ultra gain.
This head is rugged enough to endure constant venue changes and climates! The clean tones are like the feeling of warm chicken noodle soup sliding down your throat and into your tummy! Mmm mmm good! The crunch tones are so beefy you'll think you entered the hamburger eating contest at the Farris Truckstop in Missouri! That lead tone though…. Have mercy! Smooth like Betty Crocker and cuts through the mix like a warm butter knife! This head is for anyone looking to make the switch from lil Wayne playing to sounding like Carlos Santana!
