Takes you from pure beginner to fairly advanced. I borrowed it from the Library then decided to buy it. Love it.yohcat
This is a very good workbook that takes you through reading notes, learning the fret board, and counting time. It's NOT a DIY self learn book, although if you already have a music background then you will be fine. It's designed to be used as a text book in conjunction with a teacher. As such, it does a good job. I've worked through the lessons and it has helped me a great deal in understanding the instrument.tjspgmc

Reviews:
You know those horrible jokes your grandpa makes up, tells over and over, and thinks he's so clever he cracks himself up? Imagine grandpa as a major cocaine addict and a rock star. Entwistle has no grasp that most viewers need things a lot slower. Luckily producers had the intelligence to add slowed and pitch corrected copies and TABs. I can't speak for the accuracy of the TABs yet. It will take a little time to go through them. There is very little information to be gleaned in the interviews. Arlen Roth attempts to pry specific demonstrations out of him, but Entwistle seems preoccupied with starting his next 8 Ball of coke. Prior to the interviews, Entwistle sits solo demonstrating several of his favorite techniques and recounts some of his thoughts, but not enough to get a particularly worthwhile lesson out of let alone a reference work. If you can get it for $5 or less including shipping, you might get that much value out of it, Neither John nor Arlen at any time look at all comfortable. Personally I'd rather have my couple bucks back, actually.tricknologyracing
I start off with the fact that I am an Entwistle fan.I always loved his unique style and the authority he played with in The Who.He advanced the sound an electric bass could make:a true pionner. This video is a great way for an Entwistle fan to see the man in action.I would not recommend this video to a novice or anyone getting started.Honestly, it seems poorly planned and very spur of the moment.Entwistle doesn't seem to have any lesson plan;He rambles on from one thing to the next. You can tell he is using borrowed gear.I think Entwistle was brilliant;but this video was poorly planned. OK,now for the positive points. This is the best(only)way I know you and I can sit down and listen to the legend. You get some very up close views of John at his best. The on screen tab is decent, but the book that comes with the video is worth the price alone. The video does show a lot of nice close ups of John playing.I don't know how you could see that any other place. I feel like I got my money's worth out of this.I have seen much better or- ganized videos(Chris Squire's:very well done)but what shines through all of the haphazzard production is John Entwistle playing and talking to me one on one. For any Entwistle fan,how could you not love that?cthulhu4001
Great, now I can watch Entwistle! I have to fix up my DVD player ha ha… or my computer probably…rwil8579

excellent book for bass guitartaylorjosephmichael
After borrowing this book from a friend I immediately wanted one for my own that I would not have to give back. Unlike some videos I tried, this book starts with basics. Using both words and pictures the reader sees the proper positions and movements for both hands as well as how to sit and what the proper playing position should feel like. Some techniques for hand stretching and strengthening are also included. In 98 short pages this book goes from being aimed at the "complete beginner" to playing with other instruments to reading music and teaching intermediate techniques. Canty's writing style is easy to understand, and at times it felt to me like I was being tutored by someone who actually knew not only how to play, but how to teach. It is certainly not a college level text, but I think that is what made it useful to me: It's a simple instruction manual for a total beginner. If you buy this book and follow the steps as written, I believe you too will learn "How to Play Bass Guitar".branson247

Happy with this purchase.tomj8195
I had this and the Jump & Blues Bass by the same guy, but lost them. Once I found these again this year for some fair prices I grabbed them! Bottom line, if you want to play some REAL Country bass, this is the book that will show you how. It's various short-to-the-point lessons get you up & running without a lot of bull. The J&B book is the same way. A Must Have IMHO!jcspro40
Cant wait to have time to sit and play.burgandywine121
