I've been playing for almost 30 years and this truly one of the most versatile heads I've ever played. I play 3-4 hour shows in a country band with a Fender American P-Bass and the tone is thick and loud. I also use this in my punk/hardcore band with a Fender USA Jazz bass and it cuts right through the drums and guitar. The Distortion is excellent for this style of music. I've also used it with an Ernie Ball Stingray on multiple studio sessions and again, you can get so many tones from this amp. It's Great. Best of all is lightweight and beats my Ampeg SVT Classic any day.Justin
I played vintage Fender Bassman heads when I was learning to play bass in the early 70’s , but the old Bassman’s were under powered against Marshall amps . So I went with Ampegs and Peaveys . But these new Bassman heads have PLENTY of power and that distinctive Fender mojo tone ! I’m LOVING the Bassman 800 ! And it is so flexible with the channel switching and the passive vs active channels . Now I’m going to buy some more Fender cabs !
This head is super great!! I have had the all tube bassman 300 for about 15 years and the 800 sound just as good if not better. Obviously the weight difference was the major factor in buying the bassman 800. While also having the look and feel of a classic tube head. For me I just can't get into the super small fit in your backpack heads. So the bassman 800 is really something that you would want to stand in front of. That being said I have 3 different cab combinations I use. One 410 that lives in my rehearsal studio. One 15 and 210 together, and an 810 cabinet. So depending on the venue size and load in opinions will dictate the cabs I use. I try the use the 810 when I can about 50% of the shows. The bassman 800 with an 810 cab is a match made in heaven. For me personal you don't have to play to destroy everyone's eardrums, but's it's nice to have that felling behind you. Plus in rock the drums are loud and powerful, or at least they should be, and nothing better than the old fridge to even the score. The Di is great and much improved from my other head (bassman 300}. This model has an adjustable volume for the DI with the normal pre and post options. The Di is also tube driven, giving the front of house a nice warm signal. What I'm really loving about this amp is the tone seems just a little tighter than my all tube bassman 300. The 800 is super punchy without having that plastic fake tone. I also find myself using the overdrive on the amp over my two overdrive pedals on my board. Honestly makes think over going with a tuner and the foot switch only… So really the test is going to be how will this head stand up to playing every weekend. At least with my all tube bassman 300 can almost always be repaired,like an old muscle car. This bassman 800 is like a Tesla, freaking awesome but hope battery doesn't run out on your family trip up north. Anyway time will tell, till then this amp is awesome!! Loving itDbassmann

I ordered a positive grid 600W head it arrived defective and I returned it the next day I then ordered and paid for a second one because I didn't want to miss out on the deal. Well today I called them because the second head was not being shipped and I was told that I would not be getting the second amp because they were out. They are refunding all my money that's not the problem the problem is I was told they had another to sell me which I was find with even though they should have set one aside because they knew the first one was being shipped back. I was not even offered a deal a a rack one which they have in stock I think I should have been offered a deal on one of the other positive grid. This amp is incredible. Having pretty much any sound at my fingertips, in a unit which can go from whisper quiet (but still great sounding) to stage volume is awesome. The knobs/switches etc all feel like very high quality, and the added software licence is a nice bonus. It may seem pricey, but it is way, way cheaper than buying all those classic amps, and the sounds are indistinguishable. Can't recommend highly enough.malediction99
I was very excited to get the Bias head after many reviews online. To my disappointment, it seems that this amounts to a midi controller for the Bias Amp software and pretty much nothing else. Unfortunately, I was not able to get any kind of usable tone out of this (possibly due to my own lack of understanding or maybe it needs to be run out of a cab) but, the thing that made me give it a two star rating is that I found out the Bias FX software cannot also be used with this head. There is so much more that could have been done with this thing. I am very disappointed with the execution of this product and had hoped for something more than the bare minimum amount of functionality.NICK

Decent sound running my acoustic bass through it. Buzzes a little with the low frequencies but somewhat imperceptible playing live. Battery life has been good for several hours. The HOG has a cool look that sets it apart from most. My HOG was pre-owned and not sure how old it is but the The amp was bigger and heavier than expected but still very portable. Rechargeable batteries are a great idea. Someday when they finally wear out for good, the replacement cost is very low. Mine was sold with the caution that the pots are scratchy, which they are. But that is something I intend to work on myself and learn a few things in the process. The surprising thing (and my favorite thing) is the full, warm tone. Much better than expected, and quite suitable for home recording. This HOG will be with me for a long time.glennbuck2005
In my previous 4-star review, I didn't have a chance to play out with other musicians. Now I have, and I give this amp 5 stars. Other players have commented how clear and easy to hear this amp is. Each bass string is reproduced with equal volume. I use it with a Guild acoustic bass guitar, and that combination gives a pretty good simulation of an upright bass. Not identical, but certainly adequate for outdoor jams. Indoors, the amp provides more than enough volume and fullness. This amp is fantastic. For someone that is so used to having different modellers, tube amps, multi fx and stompboxes this is now all I need. I've been meddling with allsorts kf gear for 17 years in my search for tone. I feel I am now at the end. Managed to dial in 4 very usable great sounding patches in minutes just using the front panel, something I've not been able to do with any amp or modeller in a while. It djents, it can do blues crunch, it can do straight rock grit, chimey clean, and just big standard chuggy metal very well. It's quite light, but when you turn up the volume you can feel air moving, like you can with a much bigger cab or with a valve amp. For a 1×12 it isn't boxy at all, very open sounding. The Waza speaker is very harsh in the top and highs to begin with when you first switch it on, but after a few hours use the speaker breaks in and the harsh highs all disappear. For someone that has always used Celestion V30's this Waza speaker is just amazing and I'm definitely leaving it as is! The dynamic response to picking and rolling your volume knob down is just how a valve amp responds – light picking = cleaner tones. Dig in with your pick and the amp comes alive. Fantastic all round amp, Boss really have nailed it with this one.
Just picked one of these and it's been a joy to play. Pretty easy to use with quite a few options. Was able to dial in some tones that sound like my $800-1k tube amps. Honestly this amp is the best bang for your buck amp available imo. I really love the Waza Craft Greenback speaker. I love the .5, 50,100 watt options. Haven't even explored the software yet but I'm confident enough in this amp to give it a 5 star already. This of course is keeping in mind the fact it's essentially a budget amp price. Sound: Right out of the box? I didn’t even adjust EQs. Set volume and gain, and started playing. Took 0 effort to get 98% of the way to my live tone that is an Orange Rockerverb 100W MK2 and Marshall 212 with V30s. Features: I love the Tone Studio. I did have to pull a star from Ease Of Use because it may be confusing if you’re not good with computers. Ease of Use: If you can’t get a good sound out of this amp, return it, sell your guitars, and find a new hobby. That’s how easy getting a good sound out of this is. Quality: Seems pretty decent. I wouldn’t call it robust, but it doesn’t FEEL as cheap as the price would suggest. Value: 100% worth the price. I’d have paid $100 more for it if I’d have known how good it would sound. Manufacturer Support: I’ve dealt with Roland/Boss in the past, and they’ve always been wonderful. The Wow Factor: Looks good, sounds good, price is good. A perfect practice amp, that could stand in for a small venue in a pinch. Naturally my live rig is a bit much for my apartment, but this is just what the doctor ordered. Overall: Solid state amps have come a long way. A REALLY long way. I’ll be honest, being a tube snob, I had very low expectations. Sound: If you're coming in looking for a distinctive amp character sound… this ain't it. This is for clean headroom that allows you to sculpt your sound with pedals if you need to or with modeling… or for seriously hearing what your bass actually sounds like. For me personally, I've really come to enjoy it (and I lusted after the SVT grit sound forever) and I can't believe this does good of a job for the price. Features: The power section on this is just unreal – I'm sure the wattage measure for volume is probably a little relative (then again, so is 1-10 or 11, right?), but I don't ever take it much over the "40W" marker going into a 2 x 12 cab (yeah, you read that right) and I've never had a problem keeping up with two guitarists and a drummer, either on stage or in our practice space. The EQ is a little weird if you're coming from a low/mid/high setup like just about every piece of equipment out there has, but it honestly ends up being more intuitive for adjusting to a room or different bass in front of it. I took a gamble on the line out, which I understand isn't "true DI" in the sense that it isn't an independent signal from the rest of the amp (so if you mess with EQ or volume, your FOH has to adjust on their end), but in the end I ended up pairing this with an MXR Bass DI+ for a FOH signal and to get another distortion sound, so it sort of renders that point moot. I also wish they'd put 2 Speakon jacks instead of 1 Speakon and 2 1/4" outs, but not the end of the world for me. Ease of Use: I think the biggest learning curve on this is the EQ, but as I mentioned, once you understand it, it makes much more sense than your standard 3-band. Quality: For as light as it is, it feels like a tank! The only thing I'd even be a little nervous about is the small mute switch – which just feels light because, well, it's a tiny plastic switch that you just tap, no need for a big ol' mechanical clunker, right? And as silly as it seems, just the basic case is still a great touch. Value: I was very much on the fence between this and the Mesa/Boogie Subway series, and I think if they had been the same price (and both available from zZounds with pay as you play) I would have probably ended up going with the Mesa ONLY because of the name… but I don't at all regret going with this instead. It's done everything I've asked of it. Manufacturer Support: Haven't had to deal with them directly but a big reason I purchased was that it seems like they're extremely good about direct support (including from Pat himself!) The Wow Factor: Would this blow me away as a gotta-have if I had the funds and the means? I mean, tonally, no – alone, it's not tickling my ears, but it does rumble the rump in a rather pleasing way (hey, this is a safe space, don't judge my kinks.) But as someone who needed (fine, WANTED) a physically-smaller bass amp that did the job so I could keep spending my money on rebuilding crappy guitars instead, this 100% does the trick. Overall: I'm not a bassist, I'm a guitarist who just plays one on stage. One of my favorite amps and amp concepts was the Crate Powerblock (which I still use as a travel/audition amp sometimes) – and the Bass Block is what happens if you make the Powerblock 1000 times better an at least 5.33333333 times louder (that's science, baby, I wouldn't lie to you.) This amp is a real winner. The power, as with many Class D amps isn't quite as much as the stated wattage, but it is loud and punchy. The amount of grind and kick may seem restrained because I am playing an upright, though I did test her with one of my 5 string electrics with a larger speaker cabinet, and I ran more pre gain on that run. With the upright, all knobs are at 12 0'clock, because uprights love flat sound waves. It is set up to do a great job as a double threat if I ever go back to gigs that require both upright and electric. She's gigged with me a few times and seems to have an intuitive set up with the Active and Passive inputs, Mute button, and the Depth and Contour knobs. I enjoy playing around with my electric because in conjunction with the throttling up or down of Master Volume vs. Gain and varying EQ via Depth and Contour knobs allows for a lot of very handy tone colouring.bill
I have a mixed review. I originally bought this amp because of the great reputation QSC products have had over the years under Pat Quilter's leadership – well-designed, highly-regarded products at a reasonable price, especially in the amplifier category. In the months I've used the Bass Block, it's been reliable and works without strain when I connect two cabinets, one at 4 Ohm and one at 8. That's a load of at least 2.67 Ohm, which is impressive. It never heats up, never shuts down. Bottom line: this amp has been bulletproof. The amp is light – about 15 pounds lighter than the class AB amp Eden Highwayman 500 I'd been using. Before purchasing, I spoke with Pat at the Quilter booth at the 2019 NAMM Show. He explained the tone controls, which are quite different than the usual 4-band passive or semi-parametrics you find on other units. In over 20 gigs with a number of different cab configurations with and without horn tweeters, and both active and passive basses, it has been a challenge to get the tone I need from this amp – it seems skewed toward a bassy/midrangey tone with no ability to juice up the treble. (I play classic rock in a club band, use my fingers mostly, and a pick on a few tunes) For example, when I play my Rick 4003, I can only get that clanky Rick tone if I bypass the amp's preamp section and use an outboard preamp that has more traditional tone controls. With that said, the roundish tones I can get from this unit are good; I'm just disappointed that either the unit is unable to provide the treble definition I want, or I'm unable to figure out how to get it with this amp. On the industrial design side: the amp chassis feels one step from finished – sharp folded edges stick out (versus, say, the smooth packaging you find in a GK or Genzler head.) From a marketing perspective, I wouldn't have applied the graphic of a caution sign (red stripes) to the top of the amp, and the word "block" in the product name, think "verb.Countbassy

As a bassist who plays steadily in restaurants and in house jams I have appreciated the light cabinet of the GK above all. At a foot and a half wide, 2 feet tall, the cabinet fits the cramped spaces in which I often play. Happily, it even fits in the front seat of the Miata MX-5. The sound is widely adjustable. I can get go from a hard, contemporary sound to the old school vibe, as needed. Controls are not complicated, which I like. I have broken things twice in these active 5 years. Fixed without sending it to factory both times. Once I stupidly tilted it back against a wall without any bracing. When it fell on its back it cracked the power cable input port. Pulling it out I got a big spark and a powder burn on the aluminum back. But I youtubed how to pull the amp and ordered the plastic port from the factory. A GK tech gave me a run-down of what to do via a phone call. Repaired it, reconnected it and have not had a moment's issue since. Recently a lightning strike extremely close to my house knocked out the wifi and an entire house circuit. The GK was plugged in during the strike. Afterwards it was not dead but wouldn't play – no sound. Took it to an amp repairman in Shreveport who found one of the op amps was dead. He replaced it for a hundred and I have not had a moment's issue. I'm entirely happy with it. I play a Hofner made in China, which is a beauty, and a Squier Jaguar SS, also a rock solid axe.trudeau
Purchased the MB210-II around a year ago. I was between this amplifier and the Ampeg Ba-210 and actually ordered the latter as an open box product. Well, luckily for me the Ampeg arrived nonfunctional, so I went with the GK for its extra power, and was introduced to a fantastic amp. Since I've played it at rehearsals and gigs, tossed in trunks and trucks, and it holds up beautifully. Its small design and 35 pound weight has my guitar players envious, and I've used this outside with no external amplification and filled up a park with clear sound. Honestly however, it does seem a bit sterile sounding and doesn't seem to have that "classic" tone or "vibe". But in terms of versatility, and portability, I wouldn't have any other amp behind me. I had been playing out of an swr working man 400w with the working man 4×10 for 10 years. The swr is def the king of low end tones but it wasn't very versatile and didn't give me the good active aggressive flea like sound that I wanted. On top of that my old cab weighs 97 pounds and the head is heavy af too. The gk 210 gave me exactly what I wanted. Nice low end but real clear punchy in your face treble and high mid. Sound: I bought the Ampeg Microvr Head originaly with one Ampeg 2-10" cabinet as a part of matched set, as most people do – about three months a later I bought another cabinet – so now I'm often running two of the same cabinets and the head together. When you plug in the second cabinet the rig gets noticeably louder in this set up, and also appears to have a much more deeper bass tone(if you want it). Adding the second cabinet added $300 to my rig – but if you can afford it, the sound is far superior to just the single cabinet, and gives you a lot of flexiblity. For smaller indoor venues like playing bass behind people with pugged in acoustic guitars, I run the head with just one cabinet and it sounds fine – both tone and volume wise. When I playing along with a drummer most of the time I opt for using two cabinets rather than just one. At higher volumes – like playing with a drummer it just sound stronger and fuller in every respect than by using just the single 2 10" cabinet. I'm either running a recent custom C.F. Martin Acoustic/ Electric Bass guitar, or a Fender Precession Bass, through the rig – depending on who and what I'm playing on music wise. It works excellent with either instrument and I am very happy with the set up. Even with just one cabinet you won't be dissapointed. Features: Happy with everything that it came with feature wise. Didn't like the stock power cord that came with because it was very stiff and hard to wind up – Ampeg should switch vendors and get a power cord supllier that could offer them a more felxible cord of the same quality that you cound wind up easier. Ease of Use: Tone controls are easy to figure out and use. Rear connections on the amp are simple, straight forward and easy to use, and hook things up. I often use a Martin acoustic bass guitar with this rig – so I use a Fishman DI preamp in between my bass and the amp – this being done basically to help control feedback at higher volumes (especially when playing out door gigs) and to fine tune the tone on the acoustic bass a bit more. My Fender bass sounds fine with out the Fishman preamp and the controls on the amp head work well with it – giving you many mutiple tone combinations depending on how you set them. Also my Fender fretless bass sounds really good through the amp and the matched speaker that you will most likely buy with the head. Quality: Quality seems very high. After about two years of owning and active giging – it is holding up extremely well. Over the last year or so I have taken it out on local gigs about twice a week, So it's been out of my house more than a hundred times so far, and there haven't been any issues so far – all this in all kinds of weather and temperatures. I had black vinyl covers made for the head (from a custom amp cover innernet company)and for both speaker cabinets as soon as I bought everything – so even aften trucking the units all over the place for quite awhile now they still all look fresh and brand new. The power cord that came with it was very stiff and always hard to roll up – so I bought an after market cord on a website cord supplier that was more flexible and easier to wind up. I've used the after market power cord every since. The head has a fan in the back that runs whever the unit is powered up, that when you first get the amp drives you crazy – because it appears to sound so loud. Truth is though while you may hear it running in your house when practing – you never do at gigs. At any gig the room and enviroment background noise easily drown it out right away – you just never hear the fan running at all. When I first got it I though something was wrong with the fan – there wasn't. Its an Ampeg thing – that is the low fan noise in a quiet background setting. Keeps everything cool inside the head – so you can certainly live with it. I got used to it after awhile and don't even notice it anymore. No one has ever commented to me anywhere about any fan noise coming from my amp. So don't think something is wrong with the fan when you first get the head. Value: The original outlay (about $600 for the head and one matching cabinet) is a bit steep compared to several other small bass amps on the market out there – but you get what you pay for I guess. Due to the price saddly – alot of bass players might not be able to buy one and will go with something cheaper out there. Before buying this I looked around for about two months at other rigs on the innernet, at music stores, and at othet musicians' bass rigs when watching them perform. This unit was replacing a Hartke Kickback 12 – which I used for about three years for the same type of smaller gigs – which is for more low volume type of dealsthat I play at – where you don't have to worry about shaking the room and making the paint peel of the walls when you hit your low E string on something like Springsteen's "Pink Cadillac". Sound: I own the Microvr amp and 2 210svtav cabs. I bought the second cab after I got the Mircovr set up. The sound sound you get from this things for the money blows anything else out their out of the water. To get the rated 200watts performance you need a 2nd cab as the load with one cab is 8 ohms at 150 watts. Light weight portability and small footprint size are a plus especially if your space chanllenged. This thing rocks. Features: This is a no frills set up. Has what you need to have great sound with a headphone jack to play practice in a low noise enviroment. Ease of Use: It has a 3 band eq section that you can dial in easy to find a sound you like. Its no svtpro 7 but for the money you will not find a better amp in its class. Quality: This amp is made solid. Mimics the old school look of the 70s svt lineup. Value: With anything you purchase you wish you could get it for less thats just the way it is. But for the money you will not find a better sounding and well made rig in this class. If you play slap or with a full range or bright sound, this is an amazing practice amp. It will provide plenty of bedroom level volume, with amazing effects and amp emulations. In the Roland tradition, it is solidly built without a single rattle or vibration. It is all you need to practice bass. However, it is NOT for the deep, no treble player. If this is you, go elsewhere. You simply cannot produce a deep, bass-heavy sound (at any usable volume) with 5 watts, without the kind of high end processing that is used on studio mastered recordings. If you doubt this, try playing your bass through the MP3 input on a portable or bookshelf audio system that you think has killer bass. You'll see my point as soon as you boost the bass. Great little amp. I like to go dry camping in my RV, and I like to practice my bass lines when I am out like this. Perfect for practicing. It is battery powered and the batteries last about 10 hours. I'm a Fender fan to the core. I love their electric guitars and amps but their Amps aren't even affordable anymore. They've completely out priced themselves and either you are going to pay for a severely overpriced bare bones amp or a severely overpriced amp with far more electronics than a lot of us care to deal with. This is a great sized combo amp that's easy to use and has a great sound and plenty of power and all at a great price!!! There is no reason Fender couldn't do more of this…combo's that aren't easy to use with plenty of effects and a fair price for blue collar musicians. I used a Fender Princeton Chorus combo this same size mic'd through a sound system for over two decades and it started having issues. This was the closest amp I could get (and afford). The 100 has everything you need in a combo amp and at a fraction of the price of everything else Fender makes. Buy it! You won't be disappointed!Josh
I bought this amp because my gig amp died a cyber twin 2-12s 100 watts that was about 16 years old. I have had many Fender amps they were great. I do country and 50s and 60s rock and roll. I figured 100 watts would put it out there and it does. At performing volume, the distortion is a pure heavy metal on the clean channel. Mine is not much good for high volume for my type of music. I have an old champion 110 75 watt that I will be using It has worked for me when the others were down. Not sure what to do.stev_majo
Sound: With the second channel .First it had the twin reverb and super sonic voicing with a chain loop for pedals I was set on that alone. When it got to the house and realized I didn't need my pedal chain and it sounds amazing even though ill still use my pedals here and there. The bassman, tweeds , Princeton all clean or dirty are amazing to play . again to get those sounds with out the tubes and speakers is amazing.. You get volumes that punch against you that are clear without any nasty whitenoise or unwanted sounds. the dirty settings added with the compression build in make all that possible. Outta all my guitars I enjoy to plug into this amp .My 63 firebird , g400 s.g. and my jaguar Ease of Use: Its real easy for me to get the sounds I need .I'm well aware of all the amps they used for the voicing.For new players it might take a little to understand but with no time you'll understand how to dial it in and add the right effects to the amp models to get those amazing fender amps . Quality: Only had it for a week but as for holding it up and down 3 flights of stairs at the studio in Philadelphia id say the strap is well build . I know the tubes will make a difference but not much to this amp unless you have the trained ear for tubes you can't tell.The 2nd channel with all the voice modeling Id say every setting is 99.7 spot on with the models . I love this amp .After watching a few videos online of the 100 I decided to go with it .My friend has the champion 50 so I have already played through this style of amp. When I saw the 2×12 combo version with a double channel pedal it was set in stone . I love combos more than any kind of amp . Not only does this 5 watt lil' monster have enough power to rattle the windows, it also has class! At only 9 lbs. the Bugera T5 Infinium has enough "UMFF" to push your favorite 4X12" cabinet into the stratosphere! It's better having this reverb built into this lil' madman than not having any at all. Just like 9/10 of the other amp heads in its class. The 1 channel, "all tube" head has warm cleans. Push in the PHAT switch and crank the volume and gain and you get saturated distortion that will blow you away! All of that in a 9 lb metal cage like package for only $200! You won't find another 5 W head with all of that for this price. I love my T5 Infinium from Bugera!brmul-8207
Bought this head for 162 ChF and combined with the Vox BC108 (85,-) it is a fantastic value. I should say, it is my first all-valve amp so I can't make many comparisons, but here is my general review. The amp reacts very nicely to changes in my guitar's output. Turning down the guitar volume or playing very softly gives me a clean sound even with lots of gain. The distortion is generally very harmonic and fuzzy. You can absolutely get a metal tone from this with a set of (higher output) humbuckers. You will need the "Phat" switch for anything high-gain, which will bypass the EQ, but to me it sounds great. The reverb sounds quite good and is very useful. The build quality and looks seem top-notch. There are three minor drawbacks. Firstly, even at 0,1 Watt it's fairly loud. Absolutely fine for lower gain tones, but late night metal in an apartment will be tough. Secondly, with headphones plugged in, the attenuator (wattage setting) is bypassed, so depending on the headphones high gain tones might deafen you. Thirdly (and this is a very minor nitpick), the Bass and Treble knobs don't have as much range as I'm used to. TLDR: Overall if you're looking for a simple old-school head with a fantastic value, this surely has to be it. All of my (admittedly nitpicky) issues with it can be fixed with an overdrive pedal.
First impression: On unboxing, the T5 did not make a great first impression. I thought it was B stock! It was literally covered in fingerprints! That greasy fingerprint look just doesn’t go well on black and chrome. It also had what looked like a tape glue mark near the logo. I got a good clean with a dry cloth. What a beautiful looking piece of gear this is, a vintage look that is to die for. The Bugera T5 Infinium Tube Amplifier is well built. It is heavy, certainly but well supported by a sturdy leather vintage style handle that makes it super portable. Tall rubber feet gave the T5 plenty of clearance to avoid cab handles. The front panel: The front panel sports a standard input jack socket, 5 Knobs, a “Phat” switch, a jeweled power light and a power switch. There is no “standby” switch. A matching chrome and black Bugera logo fronts the chrome cage. The controls: The Gain control increasingly pushes the amp into saturation as it is rotated clockwise producing a very usable overdrive. The treble and bass controls work as one expects – nothing unexpected there. The reverb was something of a surprise. Sounding rather “springy”, especially when added tastefully. A super reverberant wash is available beyond the 12 O’clock position. The Volume knob, perversely, does not seem to add volume. There is hardly and noticeable difference at all between the 11 o’clock position and when fully clockwise. Where the REAL volume push lies, is with the Phat switch. The Phat switch boosts the volume while bypassing the EQ. It certainly does make a huge difference – when engaged, one never wants to switch it off! The Back Panel: Power is via 3 pin IEC “kettle” plug. Also here are two quarter inch jacks. The first is for a 4 ohm speaker, although this is labeled as a minimum load, you can use 8 or 16 ohm cabs. The second jack is for headphones. Extra points to Bugera for not using a mini jack here! Bugera eliminate bias issues using what they call their “infinium” system. LED indicators show when a tube needs replacing. The T5’s is next to the phones jack socket. Inside: Under the hood things also look great but you will only really get to see this if you are curious or wish to swop out or replace tubes. Removing the cage reveals the transformers, tubes and a screen printed Bugera logo – it’s like an art piece! The tubes are very secure and it takes some determination to remove them – a good thing as secure is better. The inside of a T5 chassis reveals considerable digital circuitry – probably the reverb. Performance: For 5 Watts the T5 is certainly much louder than one expects. If your personal history is primarily solid state amps, this amplifier will be a wake up call as to why guitarists everywhere have refused to abandon tubes for so long. Blues tones from the T5 are beautiful – everything from almost clean to great crunch – everything a blues player looks for. Let down: I REALLY wanted this amp but it was let down by one thing. The amp I was using had an unpleasant "fuzzyness" when trying to get the cleanest possible sound out of it. This "fuzzyness" hung in the dying tail of a note and sounded exactly like a crossover problem in a push pull amp – but this is a Class A amp so how could that be?! When playing power chords it sounded like intermodulation – something didn’t sound right to me. Ironically, "digital noise" in my digital practice amp is WHY I wanted a tube amp in the first place! This was a different type of noise but just as distracting. I had no EL84’s so couldn't test that – but I did have a lower gain 12AU7 tube so was able to swop that with the 12AX7 hoping like crazy that it was a tube issue and that the problem would vanish (because I really DID like this amp) but it did not help. In the end, I reluctantly packed up the T5 and returned it. If you do get a chance, try one, I recommend this simply because if I just got a dud or damaged B stoc

Every guitar player on God's green earth should have one. The different tones offered with the app inspire you to play differently. It allows you to play along with the songs you love, and download the tone. It also tells you the chord progression to the song. It's an amazing Amp, and if nothing else the GREATEST speaker in the world. I could absolutely ruin my neighborhoods night with the most absurdly clear version of my favorite songs. But I could Also practice at midnight with out waking up my roommates using my headphones.

As a practice amp, you will soon lose interest if the tone is thin, boxy and generally sounds like crap. The Spark is none of this. An incredibly wide range of tones are available via the app with sounds that you just don't expect to come from such a small package. The sound is loud, rich without the boxiness that you seem to get with amps loaded with small speakers. If you've used PG's Bias software, you'll be in very familiar territory – great emulations that have a depth that rivals some of the serious modelers available now. The effects, while not giving you a massive selection, supplies pretty well every type of effect you would ever need. The reverbs and delays are particularly good and while more than good enough for noodling at home, are more than up to the task of recording. The unit is quite sturdy with a timber cabinet and looks great – very traditional with an "English" type of styling. Using the Spark as a Bluetooth player for music is more than up to the task – good bass, clean mids and treble and loads of volume. The app overall is very good with some truly inspiring practice opportunities, though the function where the app analyses your playing and constructs a suitable backing track is hit and miss and is probably the weakest part of the app. Bluetooth connection for both control functions and audio playback is stable and very quick to pair with your device. Overall, I don't think you will find and amp sounding this good with the flexibility and functions available, from anywhere else and that is before taking into consideration, the extra functions the app gives you.Mick G.
I bought this amp on the back of all the rave reviews on YouTube etc. For me, it's just not a finished product yet. It feels very "beta". The hardware seems robust and of good quality. The modelled sounds are very good, albeit very bass heavy. But most of that can be EQ'd out. There are several problems I couldn't live with, and had to sell it on. The hum problem which is due to the supplied, un-earthed PSU was very apparent in my example. I contacted Positive Grid support about the issue in December 20, and as of selling the amp at the start of March 21, I had not yet received the replacement PSU. There are temporary workarounds, but I wanted the problem sorted permanently. As said above, the sound is very bass heavy. The amp models' EQ can be used to deal with the guitar tone, but music playback through the unit via Bluetooth has no EQ control, so the sound quality is very poor. In addition to this, the playback level is far too high. When using as a Bluetooth speaker it is very difficult to get the volume low enough using the tiny trim pot volume control for comfortable listening when sat in close proximity to the unit. The Auto Chords feature is a gimmick and needs serious work. It only works for E standard guitar tuning. For example, when listening to a song in dropped standard tuning such as "Yesterday" (guitar tuned down one whole step) Auto Chords will show fingerings for F, Em, A7 etc instead of the G,. F#m, B7 shapes that are required. At the very least, a "transpose" button is required to allow for dropped standard tunings that are very common. When using the tuner, you have to look at the lights on top of the amp. The app should have a screen that displays the tuner on your connected device when in use. The app metronome tempo can only be set by tap. It should have the ability for the user to enter the exact required BPM by inputting the figure required, or selecting the tempo with up and down or + and – controls. All of these niggles were too much for me to live with. Hopefully Positive Grid implement the changes in future releases, but I won't be buying Spark again until they do.Paul

I currently own quite a few old Marshall amps from 1967-1974. I run them through old Marshall cabs with various Celestion greenbacks. If you have ever heard a Marshall plexi cranked with a Gibson Les Paul then you know where I am going with this review. This little amp produces those type of tones without peeling the paint off the wall. Now I am not saying you will get the same experience as a 100 or 50 watt amp dimed but it does produce the same tone. I did however change the stock speaker to a Celestion 10" greenback which adds a little more compression and gets you much closer to a Marshall. For the price this amp is a no brainer. If you are looking for Fender tones this is not your amp. The irony in all of this is that this little amp gets closer to Marshall tones than the smaller Marshall amps. But then again Marshall did steal the old Fender Bassman schematic.
And so the endless search for a overdrive tone leads me to this. I have a Fender Twin for the best clean tone, but you will blow the roof off getting it to break up, and a 5150III for face melting distortion. But nothing for that middle ground of slight tube break up. I tried dozens of pedals. With dozens of pedals online costing more than this head I gave it a shot. A open box buy from MF was in perfect condition. I hooked it up to a cheap Crate V212 cab and was blown away. It's boomy and raunchy, but not flubby when cranked like many low watt amps. It has just a awesome overdriven rock tone. Easily nails Cream, Zep, 70's ZZ, A'smith & AC/DC and the classic late 60's to seventies Stones tone. The 7w is just perfect for the house, loud, proud and ripping. Mike it to a PA and you can use it in arenas and stadiums. It is naturally bassy so I leave the treble boost on to balance things out. There is only one speaker out, no standby switch, effects loop or reverb. So I use a reverb pedal. Tube amp overdrive heaven in a small package without that phony pedal tone. It's really a no brainer, gitter done. Seriously.PSL TSW
This amp is simply incredible. Some critics note a lack of bass, which I think is insane. I have the bass down to 4 and it is still quite robust. I also own a DRRI and, to be honest, I turn to the 007 more than the DRRI (I play a Strat with a TBX and 25db mid boost installed). The clean sound is noy quite the equivalent of a DRRI or a tweed Fender, yet it is definitely usable and warm. The amp does break up early (which is the point), so I would not lean on it for sparkly Fender cleans. The distorted sound is where this amp shines-even without the excellent treble boost switched on, you can get ridiculously creamy, warm yet articulate breakup that gets you from classic early Clapton blues tones to 70s Lynyrd Skynyrd and AC/DC tones. Recommended for any blues and classic rock players. Limited application for jazz, country, and metal guitarists.Sean

Don't buy this amp expecting to gig with it at anything more than very low volume levels. Matched with sensitive speakers and master volume set at full, you might be happy with the volume you can get with maybe an acoustic set. The BAM 200 would be fine for practicing and jamming with a friend in the basement, but add drums and an amped guitarist and I think you will struggle to be heard. It's output sounds closer to 30 or 40 watts RMS, rather than the mystery 200 watts TC Electronics rates this mini. Tone was OK, a little fat if you over do the bass control and the preamp sections seems to overload easily, even with low output basses. I really don't have a good use for it after buying it, but it is easy to transport!airtow
The perfect no frills small unit. Haven't really road tested due to virus shutdowns but home bound sound is fantastic. I originally bought for a backup type amp but am quickly becoming enamored by its tonal qualities. Over the past few years I have been trying to reduce my equipment footprint and lugging around effort. I have another TC Electronics amp (BH250) along with a 2×12 cab and a 2×10 cab. These have been fantastic in small and medium venues – larger venues all seem to have their own sound systems which tap into my setup. Now, with the addition of this unit, I can even run my Rickenbacker in stereo without breaking my back hauling around a lot of equipment. The sound coming out of the BAM is smooth and even. It can get very very thin or very very fat and everything in between controls are solid and even. The only thing I would say that might be missing is an 'auxiliary in' but that can be side stepped with a small mixer. All in all a great buy for a very big sounding little D amp that can almost fit in a jacket pocket.2991tom

I picked this up for my son so he could practice around the house. Killer stocking stuffer! When the son is away the dad will now play. I started playing my Mustang Bass through this and it did the job. It's a small amp, not a practice amp. This is perfect for camping trips, rocking at the office or kicking it in the backyard. Took a chance on this and purchased it without every playing it. Watched video reviews on it and gave it a shot. Yes, I know that it's small in size, smaller than a kids lunchbox but I hoped it'd produce quality sound and what I got was muddy sounds at increased volumes. It's not clear sounding and my goal to play through an amp is to sound good and I felt if I actually played this in front of people, the muddyness would make me sound amateurish. So, for what you pay for this, yes, you get amplified but it's not real great quality, unless you're a metal player because you don't get a clean sound from this. I rate this 3 stars because it's convenient to have a portable battery operated tiny amp that you can plug into and get sound from, however, the quality almost makes you not even want to play it.Jesse

This amp is versatile and easy to use stand-alone. It has a great selection of amp models built-in, along with enough effect and delays so that you can find something that you like fairly quickly. I like the clean and boutique models with some reverb. Then I played around with the other models, adjusting settings and effects. You can adjust everything on the amp, not necessary to connect a computer. I did find it confusing initially due to all the different methods required, i.e. "press a button", "press and hold", "press for 2 seconds", etc. That's why I read the manual a few times! Line6 puts a nice 2-sided "cheat sheet" on top of the amp around the carrying handle which is a lot easier than flipping through small pieces of paper staring at small font printing. So don't remove the amp-topper sheet and toss it in the box with the rest of the packing material :-). The best feature of the Catalyst amp is the manual channel. This is WYSIWYG. Adjust the knobs and controls just like a "regular"amp. You can then save the settings once you get something you like. In the future I will connect the amp to the computer and see what else you can do. Right now I am quite happy with the Catalyst amp and I highly recommend it. Go get one!Gene
After suffering a disabling back injury I needed an amp that was easier and lighter to move and set up than the tube amp combos I was used to playing through. I never cared much for the solid state amps as they could never duplicate the warmth a tube amp provided and was considering retiring from live performance altogether. Then I heard about the Catalyst series of amps and decided to try them out and was amazed! My bandmates were as well, telling me how much more clean and clear my sound was. Programming channels was a snap ( just follow the "cheat sheet on top of the amp and read the manual) and the manual button provides the familiarity of a regular amp, and at a third of the weight of my Blackstar 40 watt tube combo I can continue to perform without dealing with debilitating back pain from moving a 70 pound amp. I was so impressed I went back to GC and got the 60 watt Catalyst as well for home and playing at open mic and jams. I couldn't be happier with these amps and am grateful for the help and guidance the folks at Guitar Center in Concord Ca. always provide.Stephen
I have a few amps that I'm selling and a couple that need work – I picked up this Catalyst 60 on a whim so I'd have something reliable and portable while I'm moving amps around my local used market – but I'm super impressed with this amp and am probably going to upgrade to the 100w model! (In fact, I'll get two because I play in stereo!) I found it impossible to get a bad sound out of this, I plugged in direct with my Vox Virage DC and tried all the possible pickup combinations and did not want to stop playing. Great cleans, great crunch. The higher gain amp settings had me revisiting the metal riffs of my youth, haha. I haven't dived into the software editor because: I haven't needed to. This thing sounds great out of the box.FitzG

I'm enjoying the Vox VX50 as a practise Amp, it's small, light and quiet but has a nice tone. I can play it anytime without upsetting the neighbours. The only improvement I could suggest is maybe to simplify the controls, bass, mid, treble and volume is enough, spend the extra on speaker quality and power. Overall good though.Jason S.

This thing is fantastic. I was in the market for a practice amp, since I didn't want to lug around my bigger rig to and from practice. This beauty, pushing 100 watts, surpassed the sound quality I was hoping for significantly. The only major downside I can find if that it doesn't have it's own Direct Input, which makes it a little difficult to simulate my main tone. It doesn't respond as warmly to my Low-B as much as I'd like. But realistically for the price paid, I can't complain. The tone is as fantastic as anything you'd hear from ampeg. You get an overkill of volume for full band practice and plenty for smaller gigs. A nice plus is the head makes for a great backup in the event that your main rig fails. If you need a loud portable rig for practice or small venues that pushes a good tone, I'd highly recommend weighing in on this.VinnyVee
I was so happy to bring this home and expected it would be the perfect amp. Lightweight and cost effective. Tried it out at GC with my Boss DR 880 drum machine. Both drums & bass sounded very good, so I bought it. When I got it home I expected that my keyboards would be fair to good as well. Wrong, the Casio Cdp 100 was terrible. My Roland FP-5 was better but only about half way there compared to my Roland KC 350 keyboard amp. It was totally my fault to expect my keyboard to sound good on something made for bass. I guess I have learned my lesson. Guitar Center was gracious about taking it back and refunded my money less a small restocking fee because I ordered it rather than taking the floor demo amp. Save your boxes for full refunds.
Overall: When I got this amp I was surprised at how loud it is. I thought 100w wasn’t going to be enough until I read it is 100w RMS… thus meaning it’s actually a 200w peak amp. I run the amp flat, and get the tones I want from my Fender Jazz Active Deluxe with the 3 band eq built in. It’s excellent for getting 70s clean Ampeg bass tone I was looking for through without it costing me my back or too much money. If you’re looking for a versatile amp with modern tech and old school tones, this is it. I run the amp and a DI for church without the cab, but at home I barely have it under “2” for volume. The aux plug is great but a little muddy for songs that have a wide range. It’s very well built and it has some weight to it. Definitely good for gospel, funk, r&b and rock. I recommend this amp for sureWes
