Good quality. Made well. Had to get use to wider nut for my fat fingers, but that was expected. Action was good, only took a slight adjustment to meet my preferences. Frets are new so I'll polish them when I change the strings. The only draw back is the volume knob gets in the way when strumming fast. A low profile knob or a wheel recessed under the pick guard would be better. All in all, I recommend for good value.firedog970mark
I am a bit of a Gretsch fan though I would not write something I did not feel from the guitar or try to make it sound better than it was BUT this guitar is already well played, it has a great Gretsch Growl and can be used for various music styles. I play rockabilly, rock n roll, country, blues and try some other styles as well, this guitar seems to fit in with all of them which is a bit unique as other guitars I have I would not dream of using for anything other than rockabilly or rock n roll. I find this archtop to be versatile and with a great sound that can be easily altered to suit my playing needs…be it just by putting it through my amp or retuning to a different setup. Great guitar value. I usually prefer guitars with thinner necks(this one is thick, but not overly), but this thing played and sounded excellent right out of the case. I use mine with a vintage Dearmond pick-up and I think it sounds fantastic. It's a killer rhythm chucker! It also sounds great with a decent mic in front of it too. I tend to think most guitars these days are overpriced, so(like other players who have had a similar experience)I feel the need to post a review when I finally come across a product that is worth its price-tag. Its a great guitar that, unlike other $3,000 archtops(wont mention any names),you don't have to be afraid to take it to a gig and actually use it. I wish I could I give this guitar five stars. I love the tobacco sunburst finish, and the solid spruce and maple body. It is probably the most beautiful archtop I've seen or played (including some of the L-model vintage Gibsons I've seen or played). I took the lousy roundwounds off of it, had it set up professionally, and put d'addario flatwounds on it. I also bought a 50's era DeArmond monkey stick pickup. The guitar sounds good acoustically and with the monkey stick pick up through my vintage ampeg gemini I. Now, for the problems. Even after the set up, I had problems with fret buzz. I can diminish this by raising the bridge, but then the action is too high. A more serious problem, in my opinion, is the string spacing on the nut. The first and six strings are too close to the edge of the neck. As a result, whenever I do a pull off on the first E (especially on the lower frets) I end up pulling the string off the neck. IT IS VERY ANNOYING! This also happens sometimes when I make full bar chords. For this reason, I would not recommend this guitar for serious jazz players, unless one gets a new nut with string grooves cut differently. I think that would solve the problem, but I'm not sure.
I really love this guitar. It is exactly what I had been looking for in an archtop. I restrung it with "flat top" strings to reduce finger noise, and it just rings. I have had it a week and it sounds better every time I play it. It can be voiced with different techniques to be mellow or loud, percusive or lyrical. I am just beginning to find its range. I did experience some problems getting to this particular instrument, but the hassle was worth it. I had originally ordered a laminated archtop from another manufacturer, and in my opinion, it really did not have the sound, and had a neck defect, so I returned it. They did not have a Loar LH-600 in stock, so I ordered one from another retailer that did (I needed the guitar for an event the following month). The instrument shipped to me was obviously a B stock guitar. It had three holes going through the finish and deeply into the wood. It looked like a staple or nail had been driven into the side at the factory after the instrument was finished, but before it was packaged for shipping. The neck angle was very shallow and the bridge was all the way down, so the action could not be lowered. It was playable (and sounded great), but there was no room to adjust it without modifying the bridge. If you have researched this guitar, you have probably seen similar stories in other reviews. I can only say that I had a bad experience with that one, but was able to return it for a full refund. I cannot say with certainty that the issue was with the manufacturer shipping a damaged instrument as "new", or with the other retailer (probably unknowingly) selling B stock as undamaged, new equipment. Either way, I had read in my research that some of the Loar instruments on the market were sub-par, and did indeed have that experience myself. I did not lose any money and the other retailer paid for shipping to return the guitar (which they apparently are selling as a scratch and dent item now). I am very grateful that I did not let that discourage me from trying again. This guitar is worth the trouble. I can't express that enough, it is worth jumping through the hoops (if you have to). With any luck at all, you'll get a great guitar at a remakable price right out of the box. Buy one now before the prices go up! It has great looking and sounding wood, hand-carved solid spruce top and solid flamed maple back and sides. The hardware is solid, the Grover tuners hold in tune. The "V" profile neck is chunky, and actually quite comfortable. It does not come with a pickguard, which would have been a nice feature at this price, particularly if you are considering installing a pickup at some point, although it really doesn't need one to be heard in most settings. The hybrid gigbag/case is really better than I expected. The nitro finish is very good. In all, it is a very good representation of the classic archtop of the 30's and is appropriately appointed. This instrument is very well made. As said in some other reviews, the finish around the F holes is a little rough, the frets could have been a little better polished, slight orange peel near the fretboard extension and the top is unfinished under the fret board extension. That is all pretty nit-picky. The visual impression is that of a very beautifully built guitar, and closer examination holds up that impression. I took a mirror and a flashlight and gave the innards a good look. The work was very clean, no big glue globs or missing purfling. Very good quality work. The neck is perfectly straight, intonation is spot on (after slightly adjusting the bridge location), and the instrument feels very solid. For a guitar at this price, you can readily accept a few minor flaws, and they are minor. A less critical eye would not see them at all. If it really bugs you, get some clear lacquer and paint the inside of the F holes. I couldn't find anything else on the market close to this. The laminated guitars for a little less money don't have the big sound, and every other solid wood guitar that I could find costs thousands of dollars more. They could sell these for twice what they are asking and still be the least expensive entry in this market.

I bought the Loar LH700 knowing it was a second ( re-stock ). I have the experience to do accurate set-ups – so the base quality of materials is what mattered most. Upon arrival I immediately tuned up and checked intonation. A minor adjustment to the bridge placement was all it needed. I tested and noticed some fret buzz and it had plenty ( a little too much ) of fret relief at first blush. The frets were still buzzing out with a little added height on the set-up. I set about planing and dressing the frets and needed to remove about 0.003" on the high frets to get it to come into plane. After a full plane , dress and Polish – the Guitar played very well and achieved a fine balance and fast fretting. It plays very cleanly with a pronounced midrange and very nice projection – quite different than a Drednaught acoustic. It is great for period playing for mid 30's style plectrum and jazz / blues. The finish and design is clean and uncomplicated. It holds tune near perfectly after about 2 weeks of being under proper tension. I'm using D'addario EJ16 on first string up and plan to try out flat wounds on next change over. It's a fine guitar after a little tweaking. I find that nearly all " production " guitars off of a standard assembly require a fret dress and fine tuning to play optimally . Nothing concerning if you can do this yourself and understand that it is not a custom house guitar. Plays and sounds like one now though.RBH
I'll start by saying that my guitar is older (mid 2000's) so I can't speak on quality of the guitars currently being made. With that said, I love this guitar! It took a little while for me to figure out how to get it to sing but once I did I couldn't put it down. I own both a 700 and a 600 from the Loar. Both are great sounding guitars but the 700 is absolutely stunning. It takes time to break the guitar in. I think this is just how archtops are. I also found that putting monel strings on it makes all the difference in getting the full potential out of this guitar. If you are looking for an archtop that gives the vibe and sound of the old beloved guitars of the 30's and 40's without the cost of one of those golden era instruments then look no further.
Picked up a used one in 2015. Wasn't blown away at first though the quality was good and it sounded ok. It took me a while to find the strings that work with this guitar and once I did it came to life. This resulted in more playing time and now it sounds amazing. The effort was worth it.Joe

Je ne sais pas quels sont les cordes d’origine, elles sont agréables au touché mais manquent un peu d’âme; Je vais en essayer d’autres dont des cordes manouches Savarez Argentine 1610 et des Daddario Nickel Flat Wound Xl 10-48 et on verra. La guitare a un manche épais mais le jeu est étonnamment extrêmement confortable! Incroyable! Même un barré en case 1! La guitare ne frise pas, l’action est basse (1,6mm case 12, Mi grave!) et ne présente aucun défaut apparent, bien qu’elle ait été envoyée dans une très fine boîte en carton qui ne la protège pas du tout (seule la guitare n’était pas détruite par le transport!) . Très satisfait.
This guitar definitely has the tone and mojo of the 1930s. The price seems good as similar in other brands go for over 1,000. But unfortunately the quality control with the finish are below par. For instance there was a piece of fabric underneath the finish. This is a guitar that looks great from a distance but up close The blemishes become apparent.acc321

This is an inexpensive, decent-quality, full-size classical style of guitar that's aimed at getting more people to play guitar by addressing the more frequent complaints as to why they don't – hurt fingers from no callouses or too small hands or hand fatigue or arthritis or injuries, etc. Steel-string acoustic guitars require a level of hand and fingertip pain for a fair amount of time before any gains are noticed. That's probably why so many people become turned off to playing them. Epiphone shrewdly addressed that with this series of easy-to-play guitars. This is not a classical guitar that's designed for use by professional musicians, on stage or for learning serious classical styles but rather a full-size guitar that encourages more people to learn to play one or for guitarists to just have fun with sitting on the couch, songwriting, learning new songs, etc. And, given its low price, few if any tears might be shed should it one day get lost, stolen or damaged. The 1.75" width nut gives fingers – short, weak, thick or hurt – a bit more room to maneuver on the lower portion of the neck without the unwanted rubbing of adjacent strings and the lower tension strings it comes strung with make fretting clean sounds much easier without hard pressing, squeaks or buzz. This additional room is helpful for learning finger-picking, too. The two strap buttons, although not typical of a classical guitar, are a nice feature as they add greater flexibility for the guitarist as to how he or she prefers to play it. The sound is clean, I'd say very good, and although I'm surely no classical guitarist, this PRO-1 is what it is and what it was designed to be – an easy to hold, easy to play, affordable guitar that should encourage more people to play in spite of hand size, age, injury, physical limitations, etc. While there are many 3/4 size classical guitars out there that also offer easier playing, this Epiphone PRO-1 is a full size model that does the same at a great price.Old guy with a new guitar

Tone and quality wise, those are great guitars but they also come out of the box in need of a good setup to be playable up the neck. With the PRO-1 line, Epiphone has worked hard to deliver a reasonable factory setup on one of their most inexpensive models. I can not overstate the benefit this brings to the player! A few other things that stand out for this price range: We also get NuBone nut and saddle on all pro-1 models (this is the material Taylor and other top of the line builders use on their models). The NuBone nut makes a big difference in tone. Also it's a short scale which I think makes it easier to play, the neck is a slip D profile which makes it easy to get your hand around. Tuners at 18:1 ratio not 14:1, that's a first for a guitar in this price range and you get a humidifier and free lessons. If you play the least expensive PRO-1 model against anything in the budget acoustic room at Guitar Center (for those floor plans that separate budget from high end) you notice it's easier to play than anything else…. There is a solid-top version that comes with electronics if you must have a solid top, the truth is having a solid top is overrated on most budget guitars. All solid wood construction does sound different, but when you mix a solid top with the laminated back and sides, it's just hit and miss. If you stick with playing your first guitar won't be your last, and you're more likely to keep playing if you have an instrument that sounds good that is also very easy to play. For that the PRO-1 is your best bet right now.Jeremy
For the price this is a very nice sounding and playing guitar. I have owned higher end acoustic guitars in the past, and just needed something to do some occasional acoustic recording and playing when friends came by. It isn't quite up to the Takamine that I had (but it was also well over 10x the price of this one!), but it sounds great! I did swap out the strings, but that's to be expected. Overall, it is a good looking and nice playing/sounding guitar for a very, very reasonable price.Dave

I play solo gigs three nights per week in the spring/summer/fall in a small Colorado mountain town. Guitar, harmonica, and vocals through two matching Fishman Loudbox Artist amps. I bought my first Epiphone EJ200 in ebony in 2014 thinking that in the event it didn't play well, it would look fantastic on the wall. I took it along with my Gibson Super Jumbo 200 to the next Friday's gig. I got halfway through with the Gibson, and decided to try the new ebony Epiphone EJ200. I was astounded. I have since used the ebony, "Black Dog" for 95% of my performances since. "Oh, I thought it was a Gibson. It's only an Epiphone."—"Right. The Gibson is in the gig bag. It's my backup." I have since purchased two more Epiphone EJ200s. I saw this 12 string offered last week asd a "limited edition" and ordered it immediately. I have owned an Ovation Custom Legend 12 string for over fifteen years, gorgeous and gig worthy, and well as a Rickenbacker 360 12 string for two decades which is also a dandy. I have had two 30 minute sessions both unplugged and plugged in with this new Epiphone EJ 200 12 string, and like the original ebony 6 string, "Black Dog", this new EJ200 12 is astounding. It is visibly gorgeous. Ir frets more easily and more naturally than some of my 6 string guitars. (I own 15—"tools" that pay for themselves) And the sound both unplugged and plugged in is angelic, or at least remarkable. I think I've found another "Oh, I thought it was a Gibson" incredible instrument by Epiphone. I've been performing gigs for about three decades now. It would have been nice to have owned this baby years ago. Thank you Epiphone, and thank you Guitar Center for getting this thing where it belongs, strapped around my neck and in my hands. Sound: The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson J-200 seems to compliment my voice the best out the ones I've mentioned. Don't get me wront this Gibson G-45 Studio is a very sweet sounding acoustic. I replaced the sonitone p/u with a Dimarzio[sic] Dark Angel and it seems to have warm up the sound, a bit more mellow. I really love the way the Sonitone sounds in the J-200 and will be keeping it like it is. I may make a big upgrade for a new chorus pedal though, I am sure I will. Features: The J-200 with Sonitone system is pretty easy to use. I have plenty of different pedals, a lot of different chorus pedals. Right now I think I will splurge with something a little more expensive. My most expensive chorus pedal right now is the Boss pedal and I have had quite a while. This J-200 sounds great with just a touch of reverb. I really like all of these Epi's. But the most recent one really has my undivided attention. Ease of Use: It is very playable. The set up could not be better. I'm sure I wil tinker with it some, by that I mean try a few different pedal etc. This J-200 does not need to be tinkered with too much. As a matter fact it a very solid axe. Quality: It will last a life time, but I still want the Vintage Sunburst versionas soon as it is available. Value: Most definetly and then some. Manufacturer Support: I have not had to reach them. The Wow Factor: I can make good music with out it, but I'd just a soon stick with this one. Thank you I love this guitar! I'm hooked. Overall: I own the Epiphone Inspired by Gibson J-200 in the Antique Natural and it is one of the finest guitars In my collection. Let me start by saying I really like this guitar! I have a lot of acoustics including Martin, Taylor and Gibsons. I wanted a J-200 copy after making a mistake and selling my EPI J-200 Elite many years ago. The Masterbilt J-200 is nowhere close to the Elite series sound or quality and it's not a Gibson. I received the Masterbilt J-200 this week and did a complete set up including reshaping and lowering the bone saddle and adjusting the bow out of the neck with the truss rod. (easy to do). I also treated the neck with a concoction of Guitar Honey and Minwax mahogany to seal and treat the neck. I took off the 12 – 53 strings (wimpy sounding) and put on 12.5 – 55 Martin SP strings which made a huge improvement in loudness and tone. The overall workmanship is good and minimum flaws noticed. Observations: Heavy guitar (just like my other Epi Masterbilts) They plane the wood down only so thin to add strength and rigidity but it does NOT vibrate like a quality guitar. The spruce top is just too darn thick. The top measures .160" thick. many of my guitars are .120" – .125" thick. The X bracing on this guitar is huge in comparison to other Jumbos I have and that adds a lot of weight to the guitar. This also keeps the top from vibrating effectively. The "Gloss" finish advertised is really more of a "satin" and not a nice high gloss. I have used paste wax and buffed the top twice to improve the gloss finish. I wish Epiphone would not use this satin finish. I am not a fan. The frets are nice and the guitar appears to have been Pleked! They are very consistent down the neck and allowing for a nice low action without fretting out. Electronics sound fine and do a nice job. Overall this is a nice guitar and a real step up from the EJ-200 laminated guitar. As a solid wood guitar in in this price range I would say it is a good buy. Overall: I was so happy to get this guitar and play it right out of the box with no sign of any problems! The sound is above my expectations. The string action was perfect and they make sure it is on every guitar Alvarez makes before it leaves the factory! Better than my Blueridge BR 140 that I thought was perfect. You won't go wrong with this guitar's sound and workmanship! Also, you get an Alvarez Gig bag that is better than a hard shell case for free!
I've played for 50 plus years and very fussy about my acoustics. I never owned a Alvarez because I thought can't be good for the price. I'm talking about the Masterworks line. Well I was wrong this is one amazing acoustic from inside out. Quality bone saddle and nut ebony pins outstanding well finished bracing. This MD60BG sounds amazing good bass but to me more important a good high end sound. We have an upright bass player in our bluegrass band. But that high end if it's off you can't hide that. Up and down the fretboard the high end sings. Volume is very good to this for the money cannot be beat. The only thing and for the price how can I complain I'd rather have the hard case the original models came with. But I put the MD60BG in a good Gator case a good acoustic like this needs protection.Cibby
Overall: The one I ordered arrived dry as a bone, the neck humped and warped, the paint shrunk, the top bellied down, a disappointment out of the box. I put a D'Addario Emergency HumidPak in it to see if it would recover, but the guitar is so weather damaged, the screws for the tuners are falling out. The warehouse is not using any effective climate control whatsoever. This guitar shows signs of severe heating and cooling well out of acoustic guitar storage temps and humidity. It's a real nice guitar, but it's been ruined by negligence at the warehouse as this is not the first guitar I've purchased that came through the same warehouses with the same exact type of weather damage. What a shame. What a waste of time and money. What a cheat turning off climate control and selling guitars for new that are weather damaged — this one was inspected too, it's got the sticker on it. …inspected, thrown in a box with no humid pack and no climate control, that's a huge problem guys and gals! It's time for the manufacturers to pull their guitars from warehouses like these that try and cheat the customer by turning off climate control. I'd recommend the Alvarez but not from a warehouse that turns off climate control to cheat the customer. If the exchange is weather damaged too, we've got a problem! And save yourself the time and money, the HumidPak Emergency kit doesn't work on a guitar this badly weather damaged!Russell

Overall: I bought this guitar because I've always wanted an archtop acoustic and also because I wanted an acoustic electric for open mic nights that had a little more panache than a more traditional flat top acoustic. Score on both counts! This thing was awesome and ready to go right out of the box. I bought the natural finish because it just looked cooler to me, and man, is it gorgeous. The matte finish really lends to the look of the thing. It just looks like an old guitar from the forties, but not old in a beat up way, like a relic. So how does it sound? Plugged in, it sounds beautiful, perfect in a word. Warm and jazzy, but still bright enough to do rock n roll (or Rockabilly. Come on, this is a Gretsch). Unplugged? Well, not so much. It actually sounds kind of quiet and tinny, acoustically, but this is no fault on the part of the guitar. Anytime you have an acoustic using an electric guitar pickup, you're going to have to make a compromise. You see, this guitar comes strung with electric guitar strings. Flat wounds, actually, which are cool for an electric, but, let's face it, electric strings don't work on an acoustic. You could string it with acoustic strings, and it will sound awesome….acoustically. Electrified, it'll sound bad. So what's the solution? Well, I restrung this guitar with DR Zebras, which are hybrid strings, half acoustic, half electric. They are exactly what this guitar needed. Now it sounds amazing plugged or unplugged. So yes, definitely buy this guitar, and buy some DR Zebras to go with it and you will be overjoyed with the result. One other thing: there is one complaint I do have about this guitar. It doesn't come with a case, and it's extremely difficult to find one that fits it. Gretsch makes one that fits, but it's very expensive and no one seems to carry it.Richard
This is my first arch top acoustic electric guitar. The guitar was delivered to my house three days after placing the order. The guitar came in excellent shape. After digging through the cardboard, I was surprised to find it almost in tune. The fit, finish and appearance were perfect. I love the flat black finish. The strings were a little flat so I put some 12/56 round wound strings on. I made a minor adjustment to the bridge and it was ready to play. So far, I have plugged the guitar into a Behringer Eurolive B205 personal monitor and the The sound is rich and full, just what you would expect from a Jazz Guitar. I am very pleased. Regarding the case. Gretsch offers a hard shell case.This is, in my opinion rather pricey. I had a standard Roadrunner Classic Dreadnought case that I purchased from Musicians Friend, and from what I can see, the guitar fits well. The first time I placed the guitar into the case, it was just slightly tight when the cover was closed. Now that I have had the guitar, the padding has compressed slightly to create in my opinion, a totally acceptable fit.Brettsky
Overall: First off, I consider myself to be a hack guitarist, and as a former music critic, I should know. I have been playing a Baby Taylor 301-GB for several years, and a Taylor 110 that has been donated to my son for his musical efforts. (Happy 21st Graham!) I LOVE THIS GUITAR!!! I love the frettboard, it fits my big slow hands. I love the sounds I can get out of this guitar whether playing unplugged or with my small Fender Mustang Mini. I am hoping for big things from this guitar, and expect them to start happening soon. I don't expect to be Chuck Berry tomorrow…I'm at Steve Jones level now, but with the ease of playing, I won't be putting it down anytime soon. Joe Bonamassa by years end? Maybe.If I could nitpick, the F holes and sides could have been sanded a bit more and finished a bit better. Not sure what to expect from a Korean made product. just thought i would do a follow up review after about a year of owning this beast. i have thoroughly abused this guitar, playing it mostly outdoors in any weather that happens by. spilled beer on it, dropped it once, never cleaned it, and its never seen the inside of a case. in spite of all that , it sounds better now than it did when it was new. it has a very swampy howl to it when using a ceramic slide, and a twangy country kind of sound with brass. i play this guitar almost every day. it seems to like d'addario reso strings best, and i change them about once a month. its built like a tank, but sounds so awesome. i can say without hesitation, this is the best money i ever spent on an instrument. get it, get yer swamp on.mrvrah
Been playing for 15 years never had a resonator before have been eyeing gretch and their wares for awhile now cause the things are just so dang classy looking and I've dabbled on a couple hollow electrics made by them at music stores throughout the years and found myself more dedicated to the idea that Gretsch was the maker of my next guitar but long story short my last remaining guitar a dreadnought acoustic was snapped in two but the children one day and I went a half year with no guitar till I found a very gentle used G9200 on craigslist for 250 guy had 20+ guitars and was offloading a few I bought it without playing it just because of what it was and when I got home and played for the first time I was like a child in a candy store I was basically floored by the guitars payability and tone responsiveness And action which I'm assuming the guy adjusted from what I've read on other reviews this is the best guitar I've ever personally owned and it was used when I bought it is easily best couple hundred and some change I've ever spent on music I would recommend one of these to anyone If it sounds this amazing used I can't imagine what it was like new if your considering purchasing one don't pass it up buy yourself your new favorite guitar and be done with itChristopher Boelter
Best value I found. Can't stop looking at it. Heard some resonators that had better tone, but none at this price. Love the style & size. Action is lower than I thought, and it's not stocked with resonator strings, as the neck is built like a standard roundneck guitar and may be stressed by the heavier guage. This is great for adding spice to pickin' your folk, bluegrass, blues songs, but not so much for laying it down as a lap slide; it SOUNDS great when you do that, but the action doesn't give it any advantage over laying down a standard guitar. It DOES sound fantastic for playing standard slide & pick songs. My only sound complaint is that the resonator doesn't pick up well on soft plucking (I don't use a pick), so if you play gently it sounds like a regular guitar with a slight twang. Put some fire into it, though, and it'll ring out like it came alive. All in all, great value, versatile, comfortable & easy to play. I've been playing for over 40 years. Have had many high end guitars and many low end. Went in the middle this time. At first it seemed hard to play. But, I hadn't played for about 6 months. Wouldn't think that would be why? Was it the strings? I'm use to mediums so I wouldn't think so. It also didnt appear the strings were high off the fret board. But I did end up pushing them down for a spell. Eventually it all came around and now one of my faves ever! The sound is perfect. I've never owned a Godin but wanted something different. I took the pic guard off as for I like to see my efforts shown. Lol Unfortunately it does not come with a case but is packaged extremely well, sitting in a nice bubbly stand persay and zipped up and snug in a nice cloth. I use that bubbly thing as my stand right now. Lol Mind you, Its not a flashy guitar yet still beautiful. I do like the black fret board. So does have a smidge of flash! I've had now for 2 months now and play everyday and still sounds awesome. Oh, and I had no idea it has a built in tuner! Ez pz lemon squeezy!Bradness
Ich bin mit der Fairmount Composer QIT von Godin sehr zufrieden. Die Gitarre ist handlich und fühlt sich auf meinem Schoß sehr wohl. Sie lässt sich durch die Top Saitenlage super bespielen. Auch die elektronische Abnahme des Signals ist mehr als zufriedenstellend. Sie ist keine besonders laute Gitarre – passt sich aber wunderbar ins Bandgefüge (insgesamt 3 akustische Gitarren) ein. Was ich besonders toll finde ist der Holzgeruch, der aus dem Gitarreninneren entweicht. Riecht nach Schreinerei in Canada 😉 Klare Kaufempfehlung!

Sehr gelungenes Design mit Technik unterm Schlagbrett, läuft super leicht und klingt gut mit Picking oder leichtem Plektrum. Klingt gut am akustischem Amp und an Röhren Amps im Clean Kanal. Würde mit Percussion zusammenspielen, nicht aber mir Drum Set, da bei lauterem Spiel die gesamte Brücke mit Saitenhalterung in Rückkopplung/Schwingung gerät. Wie haltbar der Kondensator ist, wird sich erst in Jahren herausstellen. Mir wäre die Stromversorgung mit Batterie lieber gewesen. Die Gitarre wird in einem ordentlichen Gigbag geliefert, das mit einem zweiten Außenfach am Hals perfekt wäre.

This Epiphone EJ-200SCE is a truly beautiful guitar that is very comfortable to play. The build quality is good (crown inlays, moustache bridge, Grover tuners etc.), the finish is beautiful, and feel is excellent. It comes set up from factory with D'addario phosphor bronze light strings. Acoustically the jumbo body brings out a deep and rich sound. The shadow pre-amp has both a magnetic pickup as on electric guitars and a piezo pickup for acoustics. Both pickups can be balanced with each other or be used separately. Plugged or unplugged this guitar is worth the price and I am very happy I got it. Also, what's not to love, that the guitar is checked, adjusted and tuned by Music Store before shipping.
This guitar is lovely and absolutely worth every penny. It boasts a full-size body and despite being Epiphones cost worthy option to rival the Gibson JS200, it's beyond good for the money by a wide margin and sounds great. I'm not sure the strings mine came with but the resonance alone will make you go. 'Mmmmm that's nice' It has a great tone and although (depending on preference) bright nature, if you are thinking of adding to the collection and need something good without the price tag, this is your guitar. A nice wip to take to the road.
Overall: So I know this isn’t zZounds fault, it’s epiphones. But I got the guitar originally, not setup had someHorrible buzz vibration that was not normal even for a non setup guitar. Cracking at the nut, micro dents in the body at the saddle. But it had the e sonic 2 shadow pickup system which was absolutely stellar. Sent it in for a return and received a much better condition guitar but with fishman pickup system. Epiphone is now outfitting these guitars with the bare bones basic ass fishing presys system. It’s not even the presys + which is 200 dollars. This pickup is like 60 bucks. I have previous recordings with my e sonic and have tried to emulate it with this presys and it just doesn’t compare. Great guitar but the downgrade in pickup grinds my gears. My advice is to buy the e sonic 2 system or presys + system and swap them out. You’ll then have a much better sound and recording quality when plugged in. zZounds was great on the return process however. Will continue to be a customer.Joshua

I originally thought that as a multitalented Musician and singer songwriter and R&B JAZZ music Recording Artist. That the only acoustic electric guitar that would work for me was the RICK TURNER peanut styled Guitar. But needless to say…I am very surprised at the well constructed Ibanez acoustic electric guitar. It really does the trick. Yes it needed a truss rod adjustment when I first took it out of the box and observed the neck and checked the frets and string height. But other than that ? After a few minor tweeks.. it plays very well. I would like to thank the people at sweetwater for helping me with the order. And because it does have a limited lifetime warranty ? You cannot beat it for the cost. Now maybe I can get Ibanez or sweetwater to hook me up with a very cool deal I need a hard shell case for it. Hummm ? $ is out of my range at the moment. Not sure ..lol but I love this guitar.. looking forward to using it on my up and coming 2023 album release. Yeah it's all good babie….
Overall: A bit skeptical of it playing/sounding good, especially in this price range. My hopes were not high, but just to be ok as a couch guitar. Surprisingly this little baby sings! Exceeded my expectations by far! It has some minor imperfections, but it just sounds and plays amazing for this price! No set up required. Just tuned her up and started playing. For the price, you should not complain!

The guitar performs and works as advertised. It's not a bad guitar by any means but it's a guitar that lives way past it's price range either. If you want a really nice D'ANGELICO acoustic then get something from the Excel line. But this is bottom of the premier line. This does the job for a early guitar, the neck is easy to play with low action to match. Put some warm strings on it. I recommend an 85/15 string and let it warm up and break in. It's a basic acoustic electric. It does what it says it will do. Nothing more or nothing less. I got it on an overstock sale but I'd buy it again at full price but maybe not the buttercream. The black or natural wood finish look the best. The buttercream is like they wanted the color of spruce with no grain. It's different for sure. If you're wanting something really nice save your money. If you want a decent backup not starter guitar this should fit the bill. My four star rating is with the full asking price in mind. If you get it on sale it's five star for the price.Nick
i wrote a review early on with my first impressions. 3 months on it it still sounds great – it's been my sofa guitar and I've played it a great deal. The tone has mellowed a bit with use. Neck is still exactly where I set it and the whole guitar feels nicely solid. The big surprise is that this thing sounds FANTASTIC through a PA. It's balanced, it's dynamic, it has none of the harsh quackiness you usually get with low end piezo systems. You can hit it HARD without overdriving the pre. It can get nice and loud without feeding back and the onboard tuner is super handy. The first time I played it in public I was basically mobbed by other guitarists wanting to know where I got it. Ordered this on a SDOTD and will say right up front that it's a really NICE guitar, especially for the $$$. I was needing a smaller guitar w/ electronics for small venues, not needing to invest a bunch of money and after reading decent reviews I said "why not?". After opening the box things got off to a rocky start – – 1st string was broken, and also noticed the neck was really bowed from a loose truss rod, but since I do my own setups on new guitars these was fairly easy to remedy. So was the excessively dry fingerboard and bridge, which I rubbed with 0000 steel wool and lemon oil. But, two of the faux mother-of-pearl position markers were sticking up on one end (loose) and that got me to thinking maybe this was a bad idea. I almost boxed it up and sent it back, but since it was so nice otherwise I decided to super glue them back and overlook it. Otherwise, a beauty of a guitar, and after it was all set up this thing really sang. Unplugged, it's fairly unimpressive, but with a decent tone and plenty of harmonics. The fingerboard turned out to play wonderfully, low nice action with smooth frets and I love the thin profile and fairly narrow width of the neck, the shining point of this guitar. Tuners were OK, and the BONE saddle and nut were fine after I lowered the action a bit. The sound of this guitar is amazing plugged in, and the D'Angelico branded electronics are outstanding. Plugged in it sounds equal to anything I've ever heard, and I heard and played a few in my 60 years of performing. Mine does not have a phase switch as is listed, so take note of that one point. The really great thing that I love about the electronics – – the input jack & battery are on the rear bottom side instead of through the normal end pin jack, a major convenience that is not listed, so this makes up for any other minor cons of the guitar. This guitar has a great neck, a hair wider than a typical Gibson, with a low-friction finish, and nice relatively small frets (none of that "jumbo" nonsense). I've got it set up almost dead flat and there's no fret buzz, with monel 13s for strings and the bridge adjusted to give about 2.5mm clearance at the 12 fret (heavy swing strumming). However, the nut was cut too high, so barring at the first fret is tough. I'll get around to that eventually. Some more negatives: 1. The pickup vibrated sympathetically while playing, and emitted some terribly annoying buzzes. I corrected this by removing the pu cover and bedding the guts in felt. This cured the buzz but had the side effect of reducing some acoustic volume and high end. 2. One of the feet of the bridge is not well-contoured to fit the body, so that's another project to tackle. I'll probably replace the whole thing with rosewood. 3. The metal "tone" label fell off the tone knob. I had to reglue it. Still, for the low, low price I paid, I'm quite satisfied.Miles
I walked into a local music store today just to check out the toys. I had no intention to purchase anything. I just like to look. I was forbidden by the family from buying anymore gear. Oops. I started out looking at amps. I could sneak one of those past the family. They only notice new guitars. After I plugged in a few guitars to test out the amps, I notice the Godin 5th Ave Cognac Burst all by itself calling me. It was love at first strum and the amp was not even turned on. Two minutes after I turn the amp on I was headed toward the register. I have been playing for two hours straight now and only took a break to write this review. I found myself un-obligated, bored and holding a fist full of cash one Friday afternoon, so I wandered into my local guitar shop. With a new found love of single coil pickups I had been eyeballing the Gretsch and Guild hollow bodies unfortunately too poor to actually buy one. On this afternoon, however, I played the Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin. It was love at first strum. Mine is called Cognac Burst. The satin finish on these instruments is beautiful, and give it a vintage, played look. This guitar has a really nice feel in terms of the neck and the thickness of the body. I have fairly long fingers and the neck is comfortable to play. It feels to me, a bit like the thicker necks on the Les Pauls of the late 50s. When I got the guitar, the shop said they'd dial it in for me for free, but frankly, I have no complaints as it is. With the classic style floating bridge you can drop the action impossibly low before you start to get fret buzz. After I brought mine home, I did just that and it plays like a dream. The frets are finished well and there is a bevel on the edge of the fret board and frets that keep them out of the way if you're in the habit of sliding your hand up and down the neck quickly. The Kingpin has a warm mellow tone when unplugged that is perfect for playing jazz and blues. I also enjoy the lower volume of the guitar since it has f holes when I play later in the evening. Plugged in, the P90 kills and sounds good clean and driven. It also retains that warm, mellow tone when played without distortion. I haven't had any trouble with feedback as I tend to keep the volume a bit lower for small spaces. All in all, this guitar is a great choice and plays as well as my Gibson Les Paul and my buddies Gretsch 51… whateverSlowleadmccey

I'd been in the market for a new acoustic for a while but never really knew which one to go for. Luckily, PMT in Birmingham has a fantastic range of acoustics and their super helpful staff were extremely patient with me as I tried about a dozen different models, including various Taylors and Martins. For some reason, I had always thought that Taylor and Martin guitars would be the cream of the crop when it came to acoustics and, as such, had never considered Gibsons even though I own several Gibson electrics. However, the second I started playing the Gibson SJ200, it was obvious that this was the one. A really comfortable neck, a gloriously balanced sound that you can 'feel' wash through you when you play, great responsiveness to the attack of your pick… I could go on. Whilst it might be a strange thing to say, whilst it does have a great pickup in it, it feels more like a traditional acoustic guitar than any of the others that I played. Whatever your style – fingerpicking through to power chord rock – this one does it all. Granted, it ain't cheap. However, if you're only ever going to buy one acoustic to keep forever, I would heartily recommend trying a Gibson Montana SJ200. If it's good enough for the likes of Bob Dylan, George Harrison and Pete Townsend, then it's good enough for me!David C.

This guitar would be amazing at any price but for the cost it is great. Very well built, solid. Plays smooth and fast. Pickups sound great clean or with some crunch. I have owned ES-175s from the brand name companies and I would take this over a guitar that is 3 times the price or more because not only do you pay for the names with those but this is just an extremely well made guitar by obviously skilled craftsman. Look, I have played guitar over 50 years. I bought this to have a guitar to play around the camp fire or just drag around. I had Sweetwater set it up before it shipped. Got this thing and was completely blown away! With the set up it plays better than my Ovation Elite. Great guitar and great sound not to mention the service from Greg and the guys at Sweetwater. Much more than a starter guitar. Put a set of Elixir strings on this, a minor tweak of the action and away you go. Plays like an electric sounds full-bodied like a Dreadnought should. Full range of sound from base mid and treble. Mic it or I use a Dean Markley pick up for amplifier. A gorgeous sound and play sensitivity to a myriad of different styles. I have more expensive acoustic guitars. But believe it or not this one sounds better and plays better than all of them. I purchased the ebony all black model. It has a very nice look on stage. But my thing is not how an instrument looks but rather on the playability and the tonal quality. A wonderful steal for the price. I'm telling you if you purchase this guitar for practice recording or performance you will not be disappointed. And at this price point you can get one for next to the couch, one for the studio, one for the camping trip, one for the beach, and one for the stage. And still not spend as much as ONE Taylor.
This 79 buck guitar was the biggest surprise ever! I really didn't expect much, and was having second thoughts after I placed the order. I bought the sunburst version on a SDOTD as a total impulse buy. I have several expensive acoustics, and I don't need a cheap guitar. But I have to say, this is a really nice instrument. The fit and finish is above average, with relatively smooth fret ends and a huge sound. The tuners, however inexpensive, work as intended and stay in tune. The sunburst finish is lovely, with only one small thumbnail scratch. The neck joint is well done, and the neck has a comfortable full feeling. Epiphone has improved the "E" symbol on the pickguard, it is made into the plastic, and not glued on and wanting to fall off like on the older Epiphones. The rosette appears to be painted on, but it looks good regardless. The bridge (rosewood) is solidly attached to the top, with no lifting or gaps. The body has a white plastic binding front and back that is well executed. The rosewood fretboard is attractive with nice grain. And the sound! This guitar has a huge, loud sound for a laminate guitar. Tomorrow I plan to replace the original strings with some quality mediums, which can only make it sound even better. One odd feature is a false truss rod cover, held in place with three wood screws. There is nothing under it! The access to the truss rod is inside the sound hole. I did have to remove some glue from around the truss rod adjusting nut inside the guitar. Quite frankly, the quality and sound of the Epiphone just blows me away! If I had to sell all of my other acoustics and only keep this one, I would be content. It's that good!JimmyJ
