Look, if you REALLY have to have a Martin D-45 sound, guess what Of course this pedal will never do that. BUT, if you need something that sounds somewhat acoustic-like in a band mix and don't want to carry an extra (not to mention fragile) instrument, then this will work just fine. Not authentic, not great, not amazingly life-like, just FINE. With realistic expectations this pedal is as good as any for what it intends to do. I use this in an A/B/Y rig. Tha A side goes to my regular pedalboard and amps. The B side goes to this pedal and a volume pedal direct to FOH via a direct box. I get the "acoustic" sound fed back to me through my monitor (or ears if that applies occasionally). I can have straight electric, straight "acoustic", or use the Y option to blend the two to my liking. Works for me, YMMV. I play "for-hire" mostly and my clients love the versatility of my setup. Also, DO NOT run this pedal through a tube amp if you want the best results. It will definitely work best either run straight to FOH or through a clean solid-state amp. Overall: Here's it in a nutshell, if you have a song or two to play onstage it can work but won't be a great sound. Positive features are response time doesn't lag, and it does have a reverb feature. If you like the sound and feel of an acoustic you won't like this. To say you wouldn't bring an acoustic to a gig for fear of it being damaged is kind of lame, maybe keep the expensive acoustic home but take the cheap one, you will get a better sound. I plugged a strat into a clean amps and it sounded better.
Have read many reviews both positive and negative about this pedal. The negatives were not specific but didn't hear their guitar and amp give an acoustic sound with this pedal. The positives were sometimes vague but they liked it. Then some went on to say they liked it not through a tube amp but through an acoustic amp or a PA system. I HOOKED IT up through a very small practice amp set clean and used the emulation out into a mixer then into a low power full range PA type system. Sounded excellent with neck single coil. Didn't try it with the middle single coil nor the bridge humbucker. I am very happy to have this pedal.Kenmorek

Habe das Pedal zu Hause probiert, gibt das Signal unverfälscht weiter. Habe einen Auftritt damit gespielt, und der Tontechniker konnte das Gitarrensignal problemlos und in guter Qualität verstärken. Gut ist, dass zwei Ausgänge vorhanden sind. Also neben XLR für PA/Monitor kann man noch einen Verstärker betreiben, wenn nötig. EQ ist eher dezent, reicht aber völlig aus, um das Signal deutlich zu färben.

I love this thing! Pairs well with my Taylor 110. The preamp is responsive, the boost is a nice touch, and the chorus and reverb are lush. Tap tempo delay is great. I will use this weekly for worship guitar at church. My only bone to pick was the power adapter was bad right out of the box. I had another so it worked out, but still. I play mandolin and guitar in the church band and I have long since found that going direct through the P.A. system is the most efficient and quickest way to get a fidelity acoustic tone into the mix. The great thing about the Trace Elliot is that it is a quality direct box with XLR outputs with quality effects. I love the simplicity of the controls which allows me to individually dial in the effects such as reverb, delay, chorus, and, since I often take solos, a dedicated boost stomp for the extra punch I need for taking the lead with distinction. The simplicity of the controls allows me to make individual tweaks right on stage, unlike my Zoom A3, which has to go through several computer digitized manipulations, and actually requires pre-programmed patches. I’ve been searching for multi effects/DI pedal to compliment my Weissenborn style acoustic guitar. My sound hole passive pickup does a great job except for a somewhat weak output. Enter The Zoom AC-3 to the rescue. Now I have output headroom to spare. Everything about it is top shelf. Extremely flexible effects (kudos to ZOOM for using knobs rather than menu driven). And, it’s build quality is terrific. Very solid unit. I’m very glad I decided to try the ZOOM AC-3. BTW, the AMS payment options are unbeatable!SC n NC
I needed a DI box that could also boost the signal to the PA for solos and the Zoom does that well; the stage tuner is helpful, though I still use headstock tuners from habit and have accidentally muted my guitar stepping on the tuner switch when I wanted the boost switch. Providing presets for guitar body style should be useful, but once an effect is chosen I'll likely stick with it and use the equalizer knobs instead. Rarely use reverb playing with other instruments through the PA. The anti-feedback function and lift button haven't been needed though that was a big problem with my old DI box. Not using batteries, but two AA ones probably wouldn't last long.Mike
Makes a 200 dollar guitar sound like a 1000 dollar guitar. Makes a 1000 dollar guitar sound like a 2000 dollar guitar and so forth. The tape delay and tremolo sound so lush and amazing. The other effects sound amazing too, but I love the tape delay. What is amazing about this pedal is that it gets your little nuances and fixes them by smoothing them over. I play acoustic guitar, mandolin and upright bass on stage and was looking for a professional-quality pre that I could easily plug them all into. Although there are only two inputs, most of the time that's enough. What really amazed me, though, is how little tweaking I have to do when switching between instruments. When I'm going from acoustic guitar to mandolin, all I really have to do is cut out most of the "Low." Otherwise, the tone is excellent for both instruments. I did notice, however, that making sure you've matched the Tonebone to the correct pickup type (magnetic or piezo), makes a HUGE difference. If they aren't matched, the sound is thin and noisy. Still, I mostly use the Tonebone through a Roland AC60 (except with the bass) and could not be more pleased. The "Boost" switch is very handy for solos. My only wish is that it also had compression, reverb, and chorus thrown in. If it did, I'd never need another acoustic box.Doofus1
Exceptionally powerful preamp with flat response and headroom. The Piezo Buffer feature ensures that a passive piezo has enough juice and impedance to sound its best and if you have an active pickup, turning off the PZB ensures ample headroom and adequate impedance. The EQ is super effective and the hi-pass filter is a great feature for pulling rumble out of your guitar and if that doesn't work, there's a 200hz hi-pass and a Notch Filter. No excuse for feedback. I've used mine with two guitars equipped with passive Baggs piezos (LB6 and iBeam) and the LB6 sounded its best with this unit. I think, in the future, I'm going to set up the PZ Pre to blend inputs instead of toggle between guitars. I'm possibly going to add an active mic to my guitar and I think it'll be interesting to experiment with its blending capabilities. This preamp does it all but I won't give it a perfect score as some might prefer separate EQs for separate sources. That said, it's pretty much perfect.Erik
Been doing an acoustic duo gig on a regular basis for a few years now. I was using the Boss A/B 2 which worked great switching between my acoustic guitar and my slide guitar. The problem was that my slide guitar (Fender FR50) didn't have the output that my Guild DC 1E did, and I had to reach for the volume on my guitar to turn up for my solos. Enter the Radial Tone Bone. I spent a day on the floor at the NAMM show specifically to find the right pedal. Unlike everyone else that has an acoustic preamp pedal, Radial made a pedal that you can: a) plug two guitars into with separate volume controls so you can match the outputs of each guitar b) a boost function that you can send to a volume knob, fx loop, or both c) extremely musical eq, it's almost impossible to find a bad sound on this thing. While everyone else had chorus, tap tempo delays and a bunch of other stuff that I would use in an ELECTRIC gig, Radial packed all of the features that I need into one reasonably priced unit. This was also the only acoustic preamp pedal that I found that had two inputs. What professional musician shows up to a gig with one guitar? Answer: The guy that's not gonna have a gig next week. This is an affordable DI from Hotone. It has all the necessary features to make it an essential tool for live acoustic players. The Phantom power comes in handy for eliminating the need for power supply or battery. Great for coffee houses or concert stages the 3 band EQ will help improve your sound and eliminate feedback. I just bought this pedal a few weeks ago and it has made a big difference in the tone of my guitar amp. I am playing a Les Paul Studio 70's tribute through an Egnater Renegade. I was suprised that this little box would thicken up my tone so much and increase the natural harmonic prescence of my guitar. My guitar has mini-humbuckers, which have a really crisp clean tone but do not have the massive distorting ability of their humbucking big brothers. Not any more, my distorted guitar tone is so rich and thick now and I have no trouble doing pinch harmonics. I recommend this pedal to anyone wanting to overdrive their tube amp more without changing or coloring the natural tone of their amp. I love the analog warmth this pedal brings to my guitar tone. You can't really tell it's on sometimes, but if you turn it off you instantly notice the difference. Well I was ify at first about getting this cus I had a Lovepedal Echophonics delay, that I used with its boost to use on my other pedals but I felt like I needed more and I had the EP Booster before which is awesome but wasn't for me. So on a limb I bought the Echoplex and yes its exactly what everyone says it is….pretty much secret sauce. I put it last in my chain right next to the Echophonics pedal and both push my fuzz pedals into a loud, fuzzy mid like tone that is easy to cut thru a band mix. Picked up a recent model Taylor to try the expression system II. Output is low, but with good potential. Needs something more, as the built in taylor preamp sucks. Not like old expression system. I haven't had this product very long, but I can see that it is yet another fine product from BBE. I don't know exactly how they do what they do–I have unsuccessfully tried to duplicate it in the studio–but I sure do like it. This product has taken my live acoustic guitar sound, which was good to start with, and elevated it to a much better sound. I use the BBE Sonic Maximizer on my sound system and the BBE Sonic Sweet plugins in my studio, and it's plain to see that this BBE Acoustimax will become an important part of my sonic arsenal. The 3-band EQ with adjustable midrange frequency and the notch filter allow me to tune in my sound exactly where I want it with no feedback issues, and the TRS effect loop is a great idea. To get this functionality for 50 more than a good Direct Box is a no-brainer. Gives you that tweakability you want before you send your signal to the sound technician. Also has an effects loop and tuner out. If you trust the technician at the board, they will appreciate that you're sending them a great raw signal. If you don't trust them, you have the power to tweak right at on the stage. My advice: have conversations with the sound crew about how they had to EQ your tone. If they start saying the same thing in different locations, you know you need to change your EQ accordingly. I started cutting at 500hz with the mid sweep because of this. Now I make a better impression on the house I come in there with a good raw tone.Dave

Leclean version of the two notes pedal series. awesome recording preamp, or the way i used it was a pedal platform that allowed me to run direct to foh in an ampless configuration. using the on board cab sim, i d run the two channels in series (hot fusion) and get a really warm clean tone. then run whatever pedal(s) i wished for distortion. i used anything from a tube screamer to a plexi-drive to a blackstar ht dual with great results. split all that and my effects between a powered monitor and the board and i was happy as a freshwater clam! the only reason this and a few of my other pedals are being sold is i m in the fortunate position to be using a real amp at gigs again. otherwise this would be staying right where it is.

It's very well-engineered in build quality – quieter at high gain than most, but…the LEDs are too bright (on a dark stage you can't see beyond them to the controls), the 4 wiring option cuts out the amp reverb (Fender Supersonic) when the V4 is kicked in, and although Channel 2 is good for solo's the Ch1 is a bit fizzy for crunch. Initially I struggled to find a sound that I liked from this pre-amp, probably because I am not a great Marshall fan but I persevered and by knocking back the mids a bit and playing with the bright switch, I eventually found the sound I was looking for. Very well built. Overall sounds excellent with some issues. Single set of tone controls doesn't work well as the 2 channels are distinctly different. Doesn't do clean well at lower gain; you need plenty of headroom and it then cleans up OK. Will probably need a clean preamp of some sort to switch to for clean. After playing 40 years and amassing more pedals than I care to admit, I lined them all up for a shootout and started selling off the losers. Just recently I became aware of the BB Preamp, after seeing a video of Andy Timmons set-up. It rocketed to the top of my list and knocked my previous favorite pedal (cmatmods Signa Drive) to the number two spot. I was amazed at the tone and responsiveness of the BB Preamp. It enhances your tone, but leaves it alone, with hardly any coloring at all – very transparent. I play a Mesa Boogie Lonestar Special, and honestly, this pedal sounds as good or better than the drive channel of that $2000 amp. gets that deafening svt sound at merely uncomfortable volume. bass knob has just the right freq to be low and fat without mud and boom. treble goes from warm and smooth to nasty. even without any gain it makes a better tone for your whole rig and band. don't let the lack off a clean blend dissuade you. this doesn't need it and sounds more focused and realistic by pushing your entire signal. easily does slight grit to lotsa grind. The Xotic Bass BB Preamp was the first "Quality" pedal I purchased when I moved from Multi-Effects Units and Boss/Korg/DigiTech mass-produced effects to Individual Pedals, and while there are a number of high quality/high-end "SVT-In-A-Box" Overdrive/Distortion Pedals on the market now I still consider this to be among the top units. Firstly is it's perfect balance of ease-of-use vs variety of tone: between its overlapping Treble & Bass EQ section & Gain control, it's quite easy to go from adding just a touch of Overdriven "dirt" into an otherwise Clean Bass tone to Lemmy or Type O Negative's Peter Steele full-on "Lead Bass" Distortion, and many different examples in-between (Entwistle, Squire, Lee and Commerford). However, the amount of Gain you choose to use does not overwhelm the inherent sound of *your* playing style and *your* Bass and other gear. A Jazz Bass will continue to sound like a Jazz Bass, a Precision will sound like a Precision, StingRay, Ibanez, etc… Adding the 2-band EQ section into the equation will continue to give you more options: for example, if you're using a "60's"-type Jazz Bass (Alder Body, Rosewood Fretboard) you may very well want to add some additional treble EQ to sound closer to the stereotypically brighter "70's J-Bass" (Ash Body, Maple Fretboard)… or not, if you simply want to add overdrive/distortion. I've found that while other Bass Overdrive/Distortion pedals may have more functions and knobs/switches, I personally find Gain-increasing effects to be better with a minimum of controls. One feature is of great use both in the Studio/Recording setting, or if you should find yourself with a massive "Preamp/Head/Amp Failure" before a show: as its name implies, the Xotic Bass BB Preamp has enough output to drive a Power Amplifiler or to the Mixing Board on its own. This "Emergency Function" alone is worth its weight in gold if you don't have an alternative method of amplification should catastrofic failure happens. And you wouldn't even need to play the show using a distorted tone is your usual is a clean one – by simply not increasing the Gain you still have a perfectly good 2-band Preamp at your foot/fingertips. The quality of the pedal is also second to none. Hand-wired with top-of-the-line parts, its potentiometers & input/output Jacks are all heavy duty, and the footswitch clicks on and off with an audible (and forcefull) "click". The only negative that comes to mind is not only its but most modern pedal: it will drain a 9V battery very quickly. However, as most Bassists as well as myself are switching to pedalboard-mounted multiple pedal power supplies, I doubt this is a true negative to most players. Again, there are many Bass Overdrive/Distortion pedals on the market currently that give you a choice between multiple presets, more bands of EQ, XLR Outputs, and numerous other functions. However, I believe the Xotic Bass BB Preamp combines ease-of-use, a good deal of tones at its potential & high quality craftsmanship at a reasonable price of pedals of its caliber.

Well you know how some people are when it comes to amplifiers on stage for church worship services. They don't want them because they think everyone will start cranking up and jockeying for sound. So I bought this direct box. Its amazing! You will like it a lot. I plug my acoustic guitar straight in and then send it to the house speakers. We have a Presonus 32.4.1 AI mixer in the new building. My favorite thing about this is the eq settings. I can dial in a sweet tone, my settings are bass at 2oclock, mids at 2 o'clock and presence and highs at 1 o'clock. Gain at 12 and volume at 3. This box is really all you need. I don't like tinny trebly sounding acoustic guitars. The bass and mids are wonderful for balancing out some highs and giving the guitar a "fullness". This box sounds very realistic. It is a very good representation of how the guitar sounds unplugged. I have a B Band pickup under the saddle so i have never had any frequency issues. I don't use the notch. I also use a TC electronic arena reverb pedal. Make sure you send the acoustic into the Para DI first and then to the reverb pedal or else it don't sound good. You can do this by getting an effects send return 1/4" cable and using the FX jack on the DI. Nice feature!! I will say i think this box sounded better on the old analog mixing board at our church, but I'm sure we can tweak it to the Presonus. Our church just moved from a 14,000 sq ft building into a 30,000 sq. ft. new building and new sound system so the room is playing into effect also. You need to keep this in mind. The old room had 12 ft. tile ceilings. The new building has 40 ft. ceilings. I think it sounds good coming out the house but it still sounds a bit digital in my headphones. If you've ever faced the problems of booming (or too thin) bass, acoustic feedback, "quacking," nasal sounding treble, or clicking picks, you will welcome this marvelous box. On my very first gig with the Baggs, I told the sound man to set the board flat and let me handle the EQ. With just a little experimentation and adjustment, I was able to boost the bass to the point where it was full but not booming, eliminate quacking and feedback, and balance the sound on my Taylor GS7 across the musical spectrum from low to high. When the sound man called down from the booth that he could hear my picks clicking on the strings, a few tweaks of the mid-high and presence knobs dialed that right out, without sacrificing volume or clarity on the treble strings. Admittedly, it's a bit tricky to master the somewhat complex settings on this sophisticated device, and the minimal instructions provided by Baggs don't help as much as one would wish. But there are some helpful videos on YouTube, and with a little experimentation you can get this box under control. I love the sound that it lets me get out of my guitar, and can't imagine that your experience would be any different. The best DI for acoustic guitar I've ever used. I bought one of these little gems at a local music store for almost ten years ago and it's like brand new. Quiet. Clean. I have a Tascam DP24 and there is ZERO hum or hiss in the signal. Onstage, I darned well won't use anything else for my Guild J series. The control over feedback in a live setting is incredible. I can notch out any hint of feedback with just a tiny alteration of the sweep knob. If my strings are a little old, I can dial in some crispness. The control in the lower mid to low high end is most sensitive–and very impressive. Most DI's give you a flat signal all across the spectrum which is okay for bass guitar or keys, but somehow this little guy gives me a certain springiness in the mid's, about 800 Hz to around 1.5 KHz. I frickin' love it. It turn my acoustic into a lead instrument that doesn't get lost in the mix.Michelle

I'm a jazz guitarist playing an 8-string classical guitar that goes higher and lower than a regular guitar. It has a K & K pickup and I my amp is a JBL EON powered speaker, which, for this instrument sounds better than any jazz guitar amp. I have used the Zoom A-3 preamp as well as an L.R. Baggs Venue DI. They are both very good but I'd say the Grace Alix is the best I've found. It has great features you can read about but I must say that the sound of my guitar with the EQ set flat is strong, clear and simply amazing! It's very well thought out. Worth the price.8-String Fred

Overall: I installed this item on my guitar and plugged it in. Immediately, there was a bunch of static. I traced it to the jack on the bottom of the unit where the line from the input jack plugged in. I can't move my guitar without the noise. I use this for my Taylor 412 acoustic – going directly to P.A. (I use a Fishman pre amp as well) I play in various acoustic trios and I needed something to boost volume for solos – plus add a little sustain/overdrive as needed. I was pleasantly surprised with the tone, and I had NO feedback problems at all. It really helps put my acoustic leads in the same proficiency level as my electric leads. It takes a bit of tweaking to find the sweet spot between enough sustain – yet not too much distortion – but the sweet spot is very much attainable. There's a slight pop when you click it on – but not enough to be overly noticeable or annoying. I'm VERY happy with this pedal !!Tom P.
The pluses: its solidly built and it has nice blue lights on the individual knobs. The minuses: not inexpensive and did not approach electric sounds for my piezo Epiphone acoustic. Maybe if you have a great pickup system? Or if you already have a magnetic soundhole pickup then this thing can give some sounds. Instead I just grabbed my cheapo Zoom multifx pedal and created a patch with eq–>overdrive—>compressor—>eq and it sounds a zillion times more realistic.Go_Pats
