Best 9V Battery For Guitar (Jan 2023 Update)

I struggled with 3 or 4 stars on these. At the end of the day, I'm on the fence. I have tested a number of AA batteries on a commercial battery analyzer and these are by far the best (all the others have been alkaline). These deliver more power than any alkaline battery I have tested or that you are likely to find. 35% more than the average alkaline, but at 2-4 times the price depending on the cost/brand of what you compare it to. They perform much better than alkaline on high drain tests, plus they have a very long shelf life and are able to deliver higher current. In an application like, say, an emergency flashlight in your car, an emergency radio, some kind of device that's hard to get to that you need to depend on not to be dead when you need it, these are probably useful and worth the extra money. For everyday use and most applications I don't see these worth the extra cost.Richard

Many expensive appliances and clocks have been ruined forever because of leaking batteries. Costco's Kirkland Signature Alkaline batteries definitely will leak very badly and very easily when the criminals shoot them with their tracking radars. I'm not sure whether or not Energizer Alkaline batteries are more resistant to leaking problems than Costco's alkaline batteries. I can testify with 100% certainity that Energizer Lithium batteries will not leak at all, even if the criminals shoot them with their tracking radars. The criminals maliciously use all frequencies of radars, including L, S, C, X, Ku, K, Ka, and the new W band radar, which is also known as "millimeter wave radar," and which is used in Toyotas and Hondas to greatly improve their driving safety. For clocks, you may find that Energizer Lithium batteries drained after only a few months, instead of lasting several years as they should have. How did the criminals drain the Energizer lithium batteries if this happens? Most likely, they jammed up the clock to increase its drag, cutting off the flow of electricity just slightly by increasing the resistance and voltage and reducing the flow of current using their tracking radars.rmchavin17

The 1978 Roberts Radio RT22 requires this battery, but it is not readily obtainable nowadays, except online. My own experience over the years of the PP9 batteries is that they are very long lasting, and this should be no exception. If you also look at reviews for PP9 batteries on Amazon, you will see generally excellent reviews. Where there are negative reviews, the problem is undoubtedly because the batteries have been languishing in stockrooms for months or possibly even years (because relatively few devices nowadays use this size of battery; hence low sales turnover) and as a result have naturally dwindled in their power over time. However, when genuinely new, they do last in normal usage for a very long time, and my opinion is that they are vastly superior to the round multiple battery setups that power most things nowadays. This battery that I obtained locally in-store from Halfords was, and still remains, highly charged, and I'm confident it will last a very long time. It's good to see PP9 batteries available at Wilko. The price is as good as anywhere I've seen so far and that includes on-line "electronics" sellers. As far as the product goes there's not much to say about a PP9 other than the ones I bought had a use-by date of two-years forwards, which is good. The plastic cases may be just a little oversized compared to the metal-clad varieties from the past, but not likely to be a problem. These batteries allow us to continue to use the excellent Hacker and Roberts radios and are used in several items of test equipment made around the same time.TM3B

good price for what appears to be 8 Energizer 9v batteries, however I have been disappointed to discover that they only last for a very short time when comparing to the average lifespan of the more expensive 2 and 4 packs of Energizer 9v batteries you can typically find near the checkouts. I'm not sure what the real difference is, because they appear to be the same, but I put one in our smoke detector and it was starting to do the occasional beep signaling the battery is starting to get low within like 2 weeks.. another item left in the car overnight, once, on a colder night, around 32°f and it was completely dead that next morning. other than the short life span, good deal for 8 9 volt batteries, about the same price as the two or four packs. not bad if whatever you use it for isn't used very often. Not many items require a 9V battery these days, but our smoke alarm is one of them. Energizer batteries have never failed us in all the years we have used them. They have always been reliable. This Energizer 9V battery was our first choice, especially when it comes to something as important as fire safety. 5 year shelf life is a huge plus and the battery was fresh out of the package with no signs of damage or corrosion. 100% recommendedJAB_seattle

My smoke detector uses a 9 volt battery and I follow the recommendation to change the battery every 6 months when we change the clocks. I am currently using an Energizer MAX Alkaline 9 Volt Battery. It comes in a 1 pack. I buy them as I need them but the label says it has a 5 year shelf life and I do like that the battery itself shows the expiration date on it. I have never had my smoke detector beep to indicate there is a low battery and I do a test every month to make sure it is working, so I will stick with using Energizer batteries since they work.Hallie

Im in love with this long lasting rechargeable 9volt energizer battery. I bought them for my smoke detectors in my house. I am so happy with the time that the battery last until I need to recharge it. And when it does need to be recharged it only takes 3 to 4 hours before there all set to go again.Im very pleased that I am saving money and using less waste from recharging them then to throw them away and buy more. I bought the battery for dedicated use in an electric guitar. After charging the battery overnight I plugged it in to the guitar and played for just under an hour. A few days later I picked up the guitar again and the battery was dead. It’s like it’s draining when plugged in but not in use. Supposedly nickel metal hydride does not have the same properties as alkaline does. I have two concerns which I want to test and get back to you one. I feel like this battery system is best used on guitars that don't already have a 9 volt battery. Final installation look super professional in all you need to half inch drill bit. I would definitely buy another one of these for a guitar that didn't have a 9-volt battery cavity or couldn't use the other Fishman offerings for Les Paul and Fender StratJim

Used this to remove 9v batteries from the equation. In my usage, it powers a Graph Tech Acoustiphonic preamp. Took a little bit of wiring and soldering work, but nothing that could be described as confusing. A perfect solution to battery issues.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

The product is well made and I’m sure it will work once I figure out how to mount the parts. I’m putting this in an LTD Ec1001 with Fishman Fluance pick ups that were factory installed. The problem is room in the control cavity as well as the battery compartment. The pack that comes with this is not sized like a 9 volt and will not fit. As of yet, I haven’t figured out a good way to mount the parts. I’m sure when I do, I will love the ease of this.Iomminf2

Batteries expiry dated passed 6 months ago. They were expired on March 20. I wasted half a day of my time replacing several smoke detectors batteries realising they dont work. Uninstalled them noticing the batteries were all expired. Spent hours to installuninstall, printing return label, time to repackage time for return the items. EBL batteries are typically not so over-rated as other Chinese sellers: When new they generally seem to test at 80-90% of rated capacity, making them an excellent value for the money. These appear to be no different. I also have yet to have one fail or leak. (I hope I did not just jinx myself!!!) Be aware, however, that these have less output voltage even when fully charged, than a fresh Alkaline, and may not work well in some battery voltage-sensitive equipment. They also self discharge faster than Alkalines (although not nearly so quickly as typical NiMh "9v" batteries), so, for long term low drainage use like smoke or CO detectors, in hard to get to spots, 9v Li-ion batteries may not be ideal. The charger I received may be an upgraded model: When charging the LED(s) are red, switching to green when the batts are fully charged OR when no battery is inserted. As far as I can tell, the charger works well. Not bad for something "almost free" when bought with the batteries. I've had no "issues" charging multiple batteries, although I have not attempted to determine if the full charge rate is applied for 4 batteries charging vs. 1 or 2. It IS a good idea to remove the charged batteries once you notice they are fully charged. One last note: Li-Ion batteries lose a LOTof their punch in cold temperatures, and, do NOT attempt to charge Li-Ion batteries in freezing (or lower) temperatures. This can damage them internally, possibly leading to a fire risk. (All sellers really should post this information!)pr-audio

Ok. Im getting a little long in the tooth. Ive seen my share of crappy, rip-off rechargeablesbut EBL is right up there with Sunlabz. I remember a decade or so ago when my large family could first afford NiMH rechargeables. I was so excited about the time, trouble and money I would save on changing the batteries in all those remote controls, toys, flashlights, and yessmoke detectors. When I tried the major brands (Duracell, Energizer, etc.), I was like What? Is this some kinda joke? They would only charge a few times, their capacity dropped precipitously, and they began leaking battery acid, usually on the first charge. I quickly concluded that this was a ploy to keep people buying alkalines. In the years since I have learned to never buy the main brands (Ive tried again every few years and its always the same). Store brands tend to be an ok value; Tenergy is a little better, but not much, and Eneloop are almost always bestalthough Ive had a few of them die quickly. Recently, my son needed some very high-grade batteries for a Boy Scout High Adventure. The leaders recommended lithium, and I started reading how awesome Li batteries are. Then, when I read about rechargeable Li-ion batteries, I had the perfect application: my 12-foot-high smoke/CO detectors! I orderedfrom EBL and oh man, I mean, what a joke. First of all, they arrived completely discharged…dead as a door nail. Im no expert or anything, but I know its terrible for rechargeables to sit empty. In a market where everything is manufacturer direct to consumer within days, theres no excuse for this behavior. So I charged them and ambled up the ladder. They lasted less than a month before I started hearing the deafening screech of the alarms. I figured this was just because they came completely discharged and so maybe they didnt get a great first charge. Wrong again. The alarms were screeching again before bedtime and it took me a couple hours to get to them. I finally just removed this EBL garbage and replaced them with Tenergythe best I had on hand. The detectors cycle through a complete alarm each time you replace the batteries, so my ears are literally ringing and I will never buy another EBL product as long as I live. Save yourself the (literal) headache!!!jdd$

Just to start, be aware that this "9-Volt" battery delivers about 8.4 Volts when fully charged. Many devices will function just fine at this potential. Some gadgets may report "battery low" even when this one is fully charged. Considering the price for a good-quality alkaline 9-Volt this rechargeable should reach the break-even on its higher cost fairly soon. The faster your device wears out a conventional 9-Volt, the sooner you'll find yourself ahead for the expense of this one. Haven't had it long enough to see how it does in low-drain devices like the battery-backup for a clock or answering machine. But I'm happy with this deal.originalnomadradio

The Energizer MAX 9 volt battery works forever! I put them in my outdoor clock which means it is exposed to the weather. Being from upstate New York, this translates to very hot and very cold temperatures. Not a good thing for batteries. So I would have to change them once every few months. But now that I put the Energizer MAX batteries in the clock, I have not changed them in over 6 months. I love it!Luv4Dals

It seems that they are C type batteries in a D type shell. I cant really send them back as they do hold the amount of power as stated on them. If you need lightweight batteries, then would be good, but why are you choosing large Dcells if that is the caseTBTold

There was a time when companies use to remind folks to change the batteries in their smoke detectors at Christmas time. It's a good habit to get into and stay into. This is meant to be a happy time of year and replacing the batteries in your smoke detectors helps keep it that way and gives peace of mind.RJHammon

These are great batteries for analog or vintage type pedals. They do discharge differently like the old school batteries as opposed to the new type and the pedals respond and sound better.Icepick Mike

are batteries that are formulated specifically for effect devices. Because regular batteries discharge differently than alkaline batteries. It the best sounding batteries for pedals. either this is not strong enough or I've received used/faulty product. It didn't have any power on it although I used a new battery out of the packaging.Brmm
