top quality built. totally silent pickups. perfect. my fender p-bass has an american heavy ash body and maple neck. it produce a punchy highs. i was looking for pickup set that will suppress and cut some of the too-trebley sound. i installed Dimarzio P122. these are excellent pickups, but are not the flavor i wanted. too much highs and too modern in eq and sound color to my taste. since all reviews always point to the Fender Custom Shop pickups as the best upgrade for Precision, i've decided to choose the '63 pickups over the '62. they have a different eq curve. my bet was successful. the p-bass's sounds is now deeper, sweeter, pleasant growl and has a real vintage warmth that i wished to achieve.doron.mckeithen
I love these pickups! They are a great design that date more than 60 years and sound delightful. Unfortunately, with my most recent purchase of these pickups from Guitar Center one of the coils to the pair of pickups was dead. I suspect during the manufacturing process the dead coil itself was tested for continuity at the factory, but, I suspect, in process of wiring my pair of Precision pickups together the integrity of one of the coils was compromised and broken. This can happen and pickup coils lead should always be retested after the solider leads have been attached. I made the same mistake as the factory and did not check the integrity of the pickups prior to installation. Therefore I voided any return I could have made on this item. I had to buy another set which is now working great.David
I bought a Fender Ash body FSR Precision Bass (the sister to the Ash Bodied Standard Jazz Bass everyone is crazy about.) a few years ago at the Manchaester Ct. GC. the Pup's where not to be desired. so I changed them out with the Original They put these in the American Vintage series and there high end Pricision's so these pup's have to be good. and they are. I get compliments on my Bass I also put in a professionaly made Push Back Wired harness with CTS 250k Pots and spraug Orange drop. She littealy is a '62 now. and im in love with the tonal spectrum of this incredible Bass simply by changing to the Fender Original. looking to pure Precision tone cant go wrong with this set.viperBSG
2. Fender Original Jazz Bass Pickup Set
Product Details:
Available here is a pair of fender jazz bass guitar alnico pickups in used but excellent condition. this is a bridge/neck set that came out of a mexican fender bass from around 2010. i upgraded to aguilar brand pickups so these get to go to a new owner who can put them to good use. there are one or two tiny nicks in the cover plastic that may be seen in the photos. *note*- one of the pickup covers from my aguilar set was a hair too big for my bass and so i re-used the old pickup cover. as a result, one of these pickup covers is labeled aguilar but the internals of the pickup is not aguilar brand.

Reviews:
I put these in an American professional jazz to be able to blend without noise. I chose them because I wanted it to remain a completely Fender bass. They aren't absolutely horrible sounding, but I have decided the only way these companies should make noiseless "single coils" is by using side by side split coils. Not stacked dual coils. Splitting the coils gives good output, attitude, and a low mid bump- you know the kind that makes people love P basses. Everybody is figuring this out except Fender- the greatest guitar maker in the world. Aguilar, Dimarzio, Nordstrand, Seymour Duncan (recently), mojotone (guitar pickups), Fralin. They've all figured out the noiseless thing. I ended up with Nordstrand NJ4SE in one and Dimarzio model J in the other. Love both of my jazz basses now. I love you Fender, but get in the game with your pickups!Andrew
I don't know if this is the LATEST version of the noiseless jazz bass pickups…it is so hard to keep up with Fender as they roll out newer versions, however, this is a great replacement to older jazz bass pickups. It really as close to noise free as you can get as you solo each pickup individually. As most jazz bass players know, the single coil aspect of the jazz bass pickup is GOING to get some hum or noise unless you are playing both the neck and bridge pickups at the same time to cancel out noise. This retains the signature Fender Jazz Bass sound with great clarity with the advantage of being noise free. Highly recommended!!road-cat1
These are a special wind from Tim Shaw, the ultimate pickup guy at Fender. They are capable of perfect vintage deep bass while throwing out strong mids and super crisp, bright highs. Not super hot so you still have to work if you want overdrive distortion, which is a good thing. These have become my favorites for all my Fender builds–basses, teles, and strats.bobvarns

I would love to say that these are the best things I've ever had in my life, but to tell you the truth I can't really tell the difference between these and what came on the instrument to start with. Reviews:
I was excited to get the geezer split pbass pickup. After some manipulation it's great. I had to reverse the pots to allow the ground to reach the bridge. I'm concerned why a 4 inch ground was supplied while ample cable was supplied to the rest of the process. Maybe I bought one that was made after lunch. It does sound great. But to EMg qc Make the ground cable longer. My USA pbass from 94 did not have a compatible channel to the bridge. Had to Go hd to buy spec bit to make it happen. Rock onConor Daily
Overall: I bought these like 6 or 8 months ago for a Squier Affinity PJ Bass. The J pickup wasn't a throw in like the P pickup. I had to expand a little bit the pickup opening to make it fit. The installation was a hassle. I originally bought these for the "convenience" of solder less installation but could't get it to work.Had extra low volume and lots of ground and hiss. I uninstalled and reinstalled several times with no success. I gave up. Last week, I decided to try again. I ignored the instructions and started experimenting by inverting some of the connections. After a few trials and errors, I inverted one of the tone connections and problem solved! Now they're sounding good, punchy and with no hiss or ground noise whatsoever. In conclusion, installation can be way harder that one would think of solder less connections, but the end result is very satisfactory to the ears.Cesar
I got these to replace a faulty fender pickup that packed up in a almost new instrument. Turned out that it was so overwound that the copper was rubbing on the inside edges of the pickup cover. This plus all sorts of debris & dust under the pickguard resulted in cutting through the winding. Anyway I couldnt be bothered going through the hassle returning the instrument & thought Id try these toneriders ,they are easy to fit & of a much higher quality construction over the vintage fender ones. They sound much better also, they are full bodied & punchy with slight break up distortion only at the very top end of the volume knob which sounds good, i think thats why they describe them as hot vintage. I was initially concerned to replace the stock ones but these are great fun & much better so it worked out nicely in the end. Oh the tonerider has vintage wire & the fender ones did not even though they were supposed to be vintage models. These I honestly recommend.johnthecarpfather

I wanted to replace the old worn out pickups in my BC Rich Platinum series bass (P-bass style) with some new active pickups. Did some research and came up with these EMG pickups. I had to do just a small amount of routing for the bridge pickup, but nothing major. Got them put in, and all the electronics that came with them, and put new strings on, tuned up, and had to re-set it up, and what a difference! Made it a whole new bass! If you are wanting to bring your bass back to life, or just an overhaul, consider these pickups. Easy to install, no soldering, and they sound amazing.Jesse
I went in with these as a HUGE fan of EMG pickups, but this was my first set with the "solderless" electronics. Well, I was not disappointed. They replaced the pickups/preamp in my '87 Charvel B3, which already sounded great, but some of the controls were malfunctioning. These EMGs not only improved the sound, they also have a bit more output, and range.doublediver
Love it. Had no problems installing these on a passive Warwick Corvette Standard, plug and play. Guitar's pickup slots are more rounded, so I had to remove a little piece of wood for it to fit in, but it's unnoticeable and was required only in 1 pickup. Important – This item includes also 3 knobs+electronics, there's no need to order those separately! When I made the order, no where on the page it mentioned that nor had any image of the package contents, it shown only the pickups, so I thought I redundantly ordered them separately, which doubled the cost.kofif

I have been a bass player for several churches, and continue to do so now on a weekly basis. I played bass in several church events and fundraisers aswell, but never really got the low-end and punch from my bass that I wanted. It always seemed a little too shallow, and behind the music in volume. I finally invested in an active set to replace the passive stock pickups, and I couldn't be happier (I also invested in a nice bass-booster pedal, which is phenomenal). I bring my 5-String SX Vintage Series Bass equipped with these EMGs every Sunday now, and the tone could not be more impressive. I recently bought a 4-String P-Bass Style Fretless for a more wide-range of sounds, and it won't be long before I stick some EMGs on it aswell. Also on a side note, running these EMGs through a nice Ampeg Bass amp, is a bass dream come true.Shawn
I bought this J5 set to fit to my 5 string jazz that I had previously modified in 1996 with a set of emg pick ups. Unfortunately, at that time only standard 4 string pick ups were available and although the string spacing was within tolerance and the bass sounded great the pick ups were undersized and the install never looked tidy. This J5 set is a direct replacement for the original pick ups in a 1996 USA Fender Jazz Standard 5 string.
8. Emg J-X Active Bass Pickup Set Black

Reviews:
The pickups were super easy to install and almost hassle free! Almost all connections are solderless which makes installing them a breeze. These pickups sound amazing compared to the stock Peavey Millenium Pickups. Only slight sanding on the screw point was needed in order for the neck pickup to drop into place.Trisphere
I bought the pickups a couple of days ago and immediately tried setting them up for my jazz bass and i was having a little bit of difficulty. one of the soderless wires didnt quite fit in the pickup but eventually i made it work. Also there was not enough room under the control plate so i had to route out the back of the body and use an old pickguard and the back of a wah pedal to fashion a battery clip. After the battery was in place i realized that i had the wrong type of output jack. I had a mono and needed a stereo jack. i drove down to radioshack and picked one up and plugged the guitar in. I immediatly heard a difference. i can get anywhere from ajaco pastorius sound to a growling sound easily just by tweaking the knobs on the bass. Im really happy with their performance so far and cant wait to test them at a gig.reedorius123
These emgs are overall a very good buy. You won't hear a completely different tone coming from your amp if you have jbass stock pickups, but they are definitely a whole different level of pickup. Fairly easy to install. The only trouble I had was fitting the battery in, but I made it work. Slapping is crisp and nice and fingerstyle and pick playing are nice and smooth. Highly recommended to anyone who has stock pickups and would like an upgrade.Jbassist

Reviews:
A lot of people seemed to go with the hype from Aguilar,EMG, Nordstrand and many others. What they don't know is that the most expensive pickups aren't sign of the best tone you can get. These Dimarzio Ultra Jazz pickups are seriously the best Jazz pickups not only for the money but for the beautiful tones you can get out of it. I'm really impressed with the nuances I can get out from these pups. I've played and owned Seymour Duncan, EMG, Fender,Bartolini and many others and my honest opinion these Ultra Jazz pickups are the best of all. Before you go spend $150+ on a set of overrated pickups, give these a try and you will see what these pickups are really about.805musician
These pickups are amazing. I purchased them for my 08 mim Jazz. What a difference. I needed to do other modifications to the bass while installing, so the tone isn't even at it's fullest yet. And it's WAY better than stock now. It's only going to get better as it settles in. And the best part is…. Totally SILENT! I also wired them up for series/parallel swap and phase reversal. the pickups came with a color diagram so that you can use push/pull pots to accomplish all the switching options. I now have clear highs, and punchy.chunky lows. The mids are not muddy either. And that takes some getting used to. Now my bass is like a new toy. I love it!
I am a longtime guitarist and have recently picked up the bass. Bought a nice MIM J bass, but the noisy PUPs were killing me. Talked to a bunch of guitar techs and they all said the best bang for the buck are these Dimarzios. Installation was a breeze…I could have done it, but my tech only charged twenty and; now that I have seen it done I would do it in the future myself. AND they sound great….changed the whole nature of the instrument and my playing. If you do one upgrade, this is it…really noticeable and very easy..Byron123
11. Emg J Set Active Bass Pickup Black
Product Details:
This item was returned in mint condition. it is free of any performance issues, and has no scratches, blemishes, or other cosmetic flaws. sweeping harmonic overtones and clarity, these active bass pickups have full-bodied sounds that add new dimensions to your bass playing. they have very low ratios of resistance to inductance that increase the low-frequency response, yet still maintain the narrow aperture for that typical jazz bass tone. instead of the side-by-side pole pieces, the emg j sets use single-pole crescent-shaped magnetic fields to complement the radiused fingerboard. so whether you play fretted or fretless bass, you'll get incredible sound yet retain that traditional tone. recommended maximum overall string width, however, is 2-3/4" (70 mm). the emg j set bass pickups come complete with prewired harnesses including dual volume controls, master tone controls, output jacks, battery clips, and pickup adjustment screws.

Reviews:
I'm experienced with building guitars and designing electronics and both pickups were dead when I wired it them up. They also hummed like crazy. I got the neck pickup to give great output but I had to add a jumper wire that was missing in the back. The bridge pickup only ever worked at half volume and I tried every possible wiring on the output with different jumpers and eventually the pickup wires that run out to the coils gave way from being reworked so many times. Way more work than they are worth.Clark
I wanted to like these pickups, but unfortunately they are too tall. The American Ultra guitars must have a deeper route to accommodate these or something. My vintage style MIM Fender body (purchased brand new as a replacement body from Fender/MF for a Partscaster) did not have enough depth in the pickup cavities to fit these. Fits standard single coils with tons of room to spare, so it's not a shallow route. These would go in if you bottom them all the way out, but then they're just barely under the strings, buzzing on the pole pieces, no room for adjustment. From what I heard, they do sound ok, but obviously need an adjustment, which I can't make. The noiseless aspect was good. They are pretty low output. Even with them near touching the strings they were significantly lower output than the Fender Tex Mex set I was trying to replace. I made recordings of before and after to compare, and they weren't any better than the Tex Mex – actually preferred the Tex Mex for tone and output. The Ultra Vintage had slightly less mids, less output, and no hum. that's about it. If you can fit them, I'm sure they'd be great, though I would opt for the Ultra Hot Noiseless instead for the increased output. For reference, from bottom of the PCB to top of the tallest pole piece they are roughly 0.984" tall or roughly 25mm. Also only available in aged white, so no color options either. Side note – the listing says they come with pots, switch, etc. They do not. This is just the pickups and mounting screws/rubber "springs" – that's it. The screws are different from typical single coils too, using threaded inserts instead of plastic screws directly into the bobbin. Keep that in mind.c00lkatz
I was a bit underwhelmed with the N3 noiseless set that came fitted to a 2013 Deluxe Strat I bought used. I noted the Gen4s had a higher output, but some forum comments suggested they weren't a worthwhile upgrade. They were wrong! More noticeable than the higher output is the improved tone the Gen4's provide. Far more 'stratty' than N3s, more touch sensitive, alive, present, and less compressed (most noticeable with the neck pick-up). Positions 2 and 4 give an authentic chimey sound. And, as a bonus, with the S1 switch activated there is less of an increase in volume than there was with the N3s. I now have 10 very usable tones! Brilliant purchase!greengoatster

Very easy to install with no messing around with soldering. The sound I get from these is mega.David S.
I love the EMG JAX sound because these pickups actually let you hear what your instrument should sound like. I can feel the instrument better and be more creative at the same time. No matter if you play at low volumes or crank it out these pick ups bring your instrument to life and allow you to be creative and use your instrument to its fullest. Available in three colors to match just about any color combo. I cselected the white to match the finish on my four string signature series Marcus Miller Fender Jazz. The JAX series is plug and play so no drilling, cutting or soldering! The pick ups are direct replacements so they fit perfect. All volume, tone controls and input jacks are included also. The pick ups are super quiet! The tone is very vintage but mantains a very modern edge. Wide range of tones with what comes in the box. Add the EXB tone enhancer if you are a tone freak like me. I have the JX series in my natural color signature series Marcus Miller and the sound is more modern with a very mid range punch great for slapping. Install the JAX Series if you need a do it all tone. Awesome Funk,Rock,Jazz, R&B, Latin Etc. Well I need to say it again first and far most quiet!!! Noisy pick ups on a bass is not cool or fun. Do not except anything lees than the best if you are serious about your tone. The wiring is professional quality. The pick up covers are strong and robust built to last. The Vol and tone pots are pro quality & again quiet. EMG = Quality. Quallity USA Manufactured Products. The EMG JAX pickups are a great value because you can do all the work yourself and the result will be a professional look and sound every time.
15. Fender V-Mod Precision Bass Pickup Set
Product Details:
Awesome sounding pick-up. bought and installed it back in july to liven-up my fender pj bass, and it did exactly that. i originally wanted to get a mike dirnt custom p-pickup (which i now have), but settled for this because none were available at the time. i didn't have any good referneces for how the pick-up sounded before i bought it, but i took a chance on it anyway and was not dissapointed. the alnico 5/3 magnet variation actually had a substancial effect on the tone. the low-end is crisp, controllable, and not overbearing, and the high-end is gritty and fat. i definitely recommend this to anyone trying to upgrade their p-bass. barely used it at all. no wear or damage on it or the wires in anyway. recorded a single with my band and played a few shows with it. took it out of my bass a few months ago because i finally got the pick-up i've been after for a few years. comes with the new screws and cushion, manual, and original case.

I bought these pickups to finish a homebuilt project just to get by until I could get a good set of Bartolini's. After I installed them I was very surprised with the tone I was getting. To make a long story short, I really like these pickups. For the money you can't go wrong. I would recommend these pickups to anyone who wants great tone for little money. Straight -up 5 stars on these little puppies.cmad7580
Don't be fooled by the price! These are absolutely great pickups. I built a PJ bass a while back and ordered these for my bass. Figured this bass would be just for knocking around the house since at that price point how good could these be really?? Well, I wired them up and it knocked my socks off yall. Full, round tone that sounded way beyond my expectations for inexpensive…or even EXPENSIVE pickups. Highly recommended. John and his crew are the best too by the way!jimmykicker
Bought these for an inexpensive build I already had way too much money in. When I finished the bass, I was shocked at just how good these really are! Good usable tone. Liked them so much that I bought some more for another bass. Undeniably no better value in pickups for my money. Good build quality as well.jimmykicker
