1. Bass Player Presents The Fretless Bass [Book]
Product Details:
Who would have thought the electric bass guitar with its frets removed would transcend the rhythm section to become one of the most instantly recognizable sounds in all of music? from the jazz genius of jaco pastorius and the funk/punk abandon of les claypool, to the landmark rock of jack bruce and sting, the instrument has a lyrical legacy all its own. this book collects the very best interviews, lessons, and gear and maintenance guides into one smooth-reading compilation. with insight from over 25 masters, including tony levin, marcus miller, gary willis, jimmy haslip, and percy jones, the fretless bass will give you a keen appreciation for the important innovators, as well as plenty of tools to find your own voice on the instrument.
Reviews:
As a compilation of BP's Fretless related articles, this is a very good approach for every bass player interested in or already inmerse in the fretless bass sound and technique. Chris Jisi did an impresive work collecting interviews and put them alltogether to bring us this piece of art. It encourages us to keep for the path to our unique sound, and gives us the chance to experiment with some of the most remarkable fretless bass lines. Excellent reading!mrfunkh
This is a great and probably rare book on the subject of fretless bass. It has reviews on all the fretless cats starting from Sting to Jaco and in between. This book is great for keeping all the information about their techniques/styles/gear and essential recordings in one place. Though some of the ground breaking fretless pioneers from other styles of music couldn't be found in here, just to mention two – Steve DiGiorgio and Sean Malone. I would wish, though, that this book would get deeper into fretless bass setup details. The information provided is good only for starters…hmmm, maybe there's another book on that somewhere? Also lessons on technique could have been more expanded, but I guess one should buy a transcript book for that. If you're a fretless fanatic – you will probably buy this book. For beginners – there is too much information on the subject for free provided on the web nowadays.huuters

I bought this for my son years ago who felt it was very easy to learn from. He is now playing bass in a band and also in a symphony. We were so impressed with his improvement and renewed interest, that my sister picked up the bass and took the lessons too. Now we find out just how famous the author & educator is , he's very well known in the music world and has done studio work for, as well as toured with big name musicians over a number of years. Our whole family highly recommends this lesson book!hummierman

8. The Bass Book: A Complete Illustrated History Of Bass Guitars [Book]
Product Details:
In california in the early '50s, the fender company introduced the world's first electric bass guitar. they couldn't have known known it then, but the precision bass would start a revolution in the sound of popular music. this book explains how that revolution happened and how its reverberations are still felt today. the two-guitars-bass-and-drums lineup that would define pop music found its heart with the fender bass. in the coming decades, the bass guitar provided the solid foundation upon which much modern music is still built. the bass book is the first to study its story, with the full lowdown of the most important bass players and bass makers. brands featured in the book include alembic, danelectro, epiphone, fender, fodera, gibson, hofner, ibanez, lakland, line 6, music man, peavey, rickenbacker, sadowsky, spector, squier, steinberger, wal, warwick, and yamaha. original interviews with makers of bass guitars from the past and present illuminate the book, with the popular establishment of the bass during the '60s and '70s examined in detail, along with more recent developments such as the popularity of the five-string bass. there is an exclusive interview with paul mccartney and other bassists who feature in the story, including stanley clarke, flea, james jamerson, jaco pastorius, and robert trujillo. dozens of unusual, desirable, and rarely seen basses are presented in high-quality photos. a reference section provides a wealth of information on the key makers. the bass book has all you need to know about the story of the bass guitar in one stylish, readable volume, and this revised and refreshed third edition brings the story right up to date.
Reviews:
I've looked for a hardcover copy of this for years. Fantastic color photography and compelling history of the instrument. Highly recommend for both musicians and lovers of the sound it produces.swar9585
Great history and details about the bassNitro
The Bass Book is for people who already know the subject and want to quickly reference some of the main points of the development of the product up to the late 90's, or someone just beginning to take an interest. Characteristics and quirks of the products listed are brief and to the point and based upon industry and historical sources, so don't expect recommendations or clues as to what suits the individual best. The recent advances in amplification, effects and use of software would require an entirely different type of resource book, which perhaps one day be contemplated by the author.mgharman

Great book for starting out. Teaches some good tips I wish I would have learned a bit earlier. Only warning is to realize it does not come with a cd, but does come with web access to the audio tracks. Easy enough to use the site and use the tracks on desktop, did not try mobile. Book is easy to read, came the day after I ordered it when using the free 2 day shipping so a definite plus there. All in all a good buy for a beginner.

Easy to follow guide book. I haven’t finished it yet but it’s doing it for me.Reviewed by Absolute Music custo
I bought this for my daughter and she is loving it. She says it is easy and fun and for me that is money well spent. The price was right and the information great.
I've never done a review before, but I simply had to rate this one! I've bought 3 bass books a month ago, and the other two weren't satisfying at all, but Fast Track is great!!! I've worked thru half the book in 1 month, practising an hour a day. My fingers are much stronger now and it's so much fun, because it's not about boring theory and endless scale-practice. The riffs and songs are accompanied on CD, you feel like playing in a band already ! Thumbs up for this book ! Hope I'll be playing like Steve Harris, soon !Cathar Maiden

it is very good for the novice player because it takes you step by step. the cd is a good tool for playing along with a real band while the exercises strenghtens your reading skill on the staff not tab. overall everyone could take something from it. i am a guitarist for 20 years and recently have gotten calls for bass work that is why i am adding this to my repertoire.Al

Reviews:
I have bought "self help" books in the past and been disappointed, but when I opened this book and played with the inclosed cd, I was impressed. I have been playing other styles on my bass, but had never ventured into the blues. This book, if followed, will show how you can actually sound decent with the play along in just a couple of sessions. You just can't play and go on, if you are a beginner, but do have to practice the exercises. The cd really helps you hear this. Great book for the beginner thru mid level player to learn or brush up on correct finger placements.forefrnite
Bei den Inhalten gibt es zwar keine echte Überraschung, sie werden aber gut präsentiert und die Tracks eignen sich auch zum mehrmaligen Üben, nicht nur als Demo
