Don't buy this amp expecting to gig with it at anything more than very low volume levels. Matched with sensitive speakers and master volume set at full, you might be happy with the volume you can get with maybe an acoustic set. The BAM 200 would be fine for practicing and jamming with a friend in the basement, but add drums and an amped guitarist and I think you will struggle to be heard. It's output sounds closer to 30 or 40 watts RMS, rather than the mystery 200 watts TC Electronics rates this mini. Tone was OK, a little fat if you over do the bass control and the preamp sections seems to overload easily, even with low output basses. I really don't have a good use for it after buying it, but it is easy to transport!airtow
The perfect no frills small unit. Haven't really road tested due to virus shutdowns but home bound sound is fantastic. I originally bought for a backup type amp but am quickly becoming enamored by its tonal qualities. Over the past few years I have been trying to reduce my equipment footprint and lugging around effort. I have another TC Electronics amp (BH250) along with a 2×12 cab and a 2×10 cab. These have been fantastic in small and medium venues – larger venues all seem to have their own sound systems which tap into my setup. Now, with the addition of this unit, I can even run my Rickenbacker in stereo without breaking my back hauling around a lot of equipment. The sound coming out of the BAM is smooth and even. It can get very very thin or very very fat and everything in between controls are solid and even. The only thing I would say that might be missing is an 'auxiliary in' but that can be side stepped with a small mixer. All in all a great buy for a very big sounding little D amp that can almost fit in a jacket pocket.2991tom

I don't understand all these raving reviews. I bought this amp without trying it first….my mistake. I have a Orange Crush 35w guitar amp and love it. Sounds great and plenty of power for a practice amp. So I thought based on that and all the great reviews that I would go for the Orange 50 bass amp. I have a Fender Rumble 25 and an Acoustic B30. So I wanted something with some more power. So I went for the 50w. Very anxious to hear it when it arrived, I plugged in my bass fired the amp up and thought something was wrong. I already had the volume half way up and it was still quiet. If I turn either the Rumble or the Acoustic half way up I can feel the volume. I was able to turn in all the way up! Which I really can't do with my other amps. The Acoustic B30 matched the Orange's volume (but with a much deeper feeling to it) while the Orange was all the way up and the B30 was only turned up to 1/4 volume. (9:00 position) So a 30 watt amp is more than twice as loud. And killed the Orange in the tone department also. Never thought the Acoustic sounded great, until last night. The Orange sounds like it's got a wet blanket covering it in comparison. Just totally weak volume and uninspiring tone that I was blown away by. Too bad in a negative way. I really thought I was going to love this amp based on reviews. The strange thing is that the only way to get more volume is to turn the gain up (it's not a guitar amp, Orange) and there goes your clean tone. The slightest amount of gain makes it growl. Which I admit isn't a bad sound with a little gain, but it should be an option to have the distortion or have it sound clean without needing the gain to boost the weak volume. I went back and forth between the Orange, Rumble 25, and B30, comparing tone and volume. Let's just say I have a new and appreciation for the Rumble and the B30. They both sound amazing in comparison. Orange makes great guitar amps, but I would call this bass combo a Lemon.Uncle T
This amp made me realise using a guitar amp for a bass wasn't nearly as good, the sound is very different. The quality and volume of the amp is much better than my old one, wven though its smaller. The tuner on the amp is a lot of help and tuning the bass much quicker. Its not too heavy and doesn't take up as much space as other amps I've had. Its is aesthetically pleasing, I love orange, the colour, and the logo on the front is a nice touch. There are 2 types of cables to plug this in, a uk and European cable so no need for an adapter. I purchased This Gnome for my 110 Custom SSB studio cab to help keep the load light, I love it! It has a smaller footprint than my Stomplab2b and has more than enough headroom. I got this for a headphone amp and pedalboard platform. I have a bass pedalboard with 7 pedals. I tried plugging it both into the front of the amp, (no modulation or time-based pedals,) and into the fx loop. Sounded weak and thin. If you turn up the gain on the amp, it really sounds terrible! Took this to the open mic that I host weekly, with lots of power drummers and fairly loud guitarists. I kept turning the thing down! I was using a 115 cab (8 ohms) that used to be a combo amp and I had to add a little high end to make it pop, but at home, with a Genz-Benz XB410T cab (4 ohms) I had everything pretty much flat and it was stunningly loud and clean and punchy. At the show, I barely had it on in the PA except for enough lows to mesh with the kick drum in the subs. Direct output was clean. Been playing bass for 44 years and this is probably the best bass head I've ever had, including 4 different Ampegs, and a G-B 600 that blew all the Ampegs away. My only complaint is that the illuminated ring on the master volume knob makes it hard to see the dot that shows where the volume actually is, but I can fix that with a piece of tape or something. My main drummer said the bass was kicking tonight! I'm very pleased so far.Fred
The Bugera bv1001 M has a nice punch to it and lots of clean power. The amp has nice highs and mid selection knob works well with my bass cabinet. And yes it has plenty of low end bass. I replaced a europower 2400 and bass V preamp with this head and I am impressed with the sound and power in such a small light package. Compressor works well also. I like my new PF350, I don't think my harke 4×10 cab is as sensitive as it could be on the loudness front. I love the simplicity of the device and am eager to see how it takes pedals. However, I picked over other small light bag carryable ones based on the reviews that said it had Ampeg tone, some level of warnth that you wouldn't expect from a ultralight. Ampeg sound like? Check!! Great portability? Check!! Powerfull for rehearsals and big pub/bar or any indoors gigs/venues? Check, check and check!! The first time I've read about this portaflex series I raised my doubts. First, because I used to play with a SVT rig (amp450 + 410 HE cab) and for the type of shows that I used to perform (between 5000 to 10000 people in outdoors live shows) that ampeg SVT rig was "The Juice"!!! Second doubt was about numbers: 250 watts (350w at 8 Ohms) in just a small and light box? How is that possible? Well, I found out that this amp is a great piece of engineering. I've plugged with a portaflex cabinet (pf-210HE) and all the Ampeg tunes, the power, the kick, the really low and deep notes are all there. It's the "Holly Grail" in terms portability, as you can attach the amp head to the cab and you just flip/flop when you need to play. Really easy to pack up, even your wife/partner/girlfriend will be amazed!!! Now, this amp doesn't have a band equalizer, just 5 controls: gain, bass, mid, treble and main volume. Is that a problem? Honestly no. Unless you're a professional, playing every single day, performing massive live shows, or you want to shape your sound to the tiniest detail. For someone that has rehearsals once/twice p week and an average of 4/6 gigs p month in bars/pubs or any other indoor venues, this is the perfect rig.n_sim19
Sound: When performing, I use three different basses. A Fender Jazz, Ibanez GSR206SM, and an Pedulla Thunderbuzz. So it's all of the major basses 4,5 and 6 strings both fretted and fretless. I use a Behringer MX400, a mixer, so I do not have to plug and unplug all of the time as the PF350 only has one input. I have a typical Ampeg tone from all of my basses, a nice deep but mellow with just enough treble on top. Features: The features are not many. So in my opinion, that's what is nice. It's nice and simple to set up, and yet the sound is to die for. Ease of Use: As far as ease of use. The simpler the better. Especially when you have a lot of setting up to do and you have an orchestra director that's in a hurry. Quality: Quality is amassing. This bass head is built like a tank. Like I said, I have used this head allover the country and in venues large and small Value: Value. I do not believe you will find a more useful bass amplifier at this price, with ease of use, or as reliable as the PF350. Manufacturer Support: Since I purchased this new, I have never had to call Ampeg. But I trust that if I ever have to, they will treat me well. The Wow Factor: The WOW FACTOR is when those that you are performing with, say to you, that they have never heard a bassist with as clear a sound or as loud as your performance. Other musicians have said to me that they can actually feel the performance in their chests. In the practice room, it can shake the floor. Overall: I purchased this head in I believe 2015. I have traveled and used this allover the country. From small groups to various shows. Including a show in Madison Wisc. at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum with over one hundred other musicians and vocalists. I used the PF350 with two vintage B15N cabs and it just rocked hard and loud. I've been playing for almost 30 years and this truly one of the most versatile heads I've ever played. I play 3-4 hour shows in a country band with a Fender American P-Bass and the tone is thick and loud. I also use this in my punk/hardcore band with a Fender USA Jazz bass and it cuts right through the drums and guitar. The Distortion is excellent for this style of music. I've also used it with an Ernie Ball Stingray on multiple studio sessions and again, you can get so many tones from this amp. It's Great. Best of all is lightweight and beats my Ampeg SVT Classic any day.Justin
I played vintage Fender Bassman heads when I was learning to play bass in the early 70’s , but the old Bassman’s were under powered against Marshall amps . So I went with Ampegs and Peaveys . But these new Bassman heads have PLENTY of power and that distinctive Fender mojo tone ! I’m LOVING the Bassman 800 ! And it is so flexible with the channel switching and the passive vs active channels . Now I’m going to buy some more Fender cabs !
This head is super great!! I have had the all tube bassman 300 for about 15 years and the 800 sound just as good if not better. Obviously the weight difference was the major factor in buying the bassman 800. While also having the look and feel of a classic tube head. For me I just can't get into the super small fit in your backpack heads. So the bassman 800 is really something that you would want to stand in front of. That being said I have 3 different cab combinations I use. One 410 that lives in my rehearsal studio. One 15 and 210 together, and an 810 cabinet. So depending on the venue size and load in opinions will dictate the cabs I use. I try the use the 810 when I can about 50% of the shows. The bassman 800 with an 810 cab is a match made in heaven. For me personal you don't have to play to destroy everyone's eardrums, but's it's nice to have that felling behind you. Plus in rock the drums are loud and powerful, or at least they should be, and nothing better than the old fridge to even the score. The Di is great and much improved from my other head (bassman 300}. This model has an adjustable volume for the DI with the normal pre and post options. The Di is also tube driven, giving the front of house a nice warm signal. What I'm really loving about this amp is the tone seems just a little tighter than my all tube bassman 300. The 800 is super punchy without having that plastic fake tone. I also find myself using the overdrive on the amp over my two overdrive pedals on my board. Honestly makes think over going with a tuner and the foot switch only… So really the test is going to be how will this head stand up to playing every weekend. At least with my all tube bassman 300 can almost always be repaired,like an old muscle car. This bassman 800 is like a Tesla, freaking awesome but hope battery doesn't run out on your family trip up north. Anyway time will tell, till then this amp is awesome!! Loving itDbassmann

If you play slap or with a full range or bright sound, this is an amazing practice amp. It will provide plenty of bedroom level volume, with amazing effects and amp emulations. In the Roland tradition, it is solidly built without a single rattle or vibration. It is all you need to practice bass. However, it is NOT for the deep, no treble player. If this is you, go elsewhere. You simply cannot produce a deep, bass-heavy sound (at any usable volume) with 5 watts, without the kind of high end processing that is used on studio mastered recordings. If you doubt this, try playing your bass through the MP3 input on a portable or bookshelf audio system that you think has killer bass. You'll see my point as soon as you boost the bass. Sound: I bought the Ampeg Microvr Head originaly with one Ampeg 2-10" cabinet as a part of matched set, as most people do – about three months a later I bought another cabinet – so now I'm often running two of the same cabinets and the head together. When you plug in the second cabinet the rig gets noticeably louder in this set up, and also appears to have a much more deeper bass tone(if you want it). Adding the second cabinet added $300 to my rig – but if you can afford it, the sound is far superior to just the single cabinet, and gives you a lot of flexiblity. For smaller indoor venues like playing bass behind people with pugged in acoustic guitars, I run the head with just one cabinet and it sounds fine – both tone and volume wise. When I playing along with a drummer most of the time I opt for using two cabinets rather than just one. At higher volumes – like playing with a drummer it just sound stronger and fuller in every respect than by using just the single 2 10" cabinet. I'm either running a recent custom C.F. Martin Acoustic/ Electric Bass guitar, or a Fender Precession Bass, through the rig – depending on who and what I'm playing on music wise. It works excellent with either instrument and I am very happy with the set up. Even with just one cabinet you won't be dissapointed. Features: Happy with everything that it came with feature wise. Didn't like the stock power cord that came with because it was very stiff and hard to wind up – Ampeg should switch vendors and get a power cord supllier that could offer them a more felxible cord of the same quality that you cound wind up easier. Ease of Use: Tone controls are easy to figure out and use. Rear connections on the amp are simple, straight forward and easy to use, and hook things up. I often use a Martin acoustic bass guitar with this rig – so I use a Fishman DI preamp in between my bass and the amp – this being done basically to help control feedback at higher volumes (especially when playing out door gigs) and to fine tune the tone on the acoustic bass a bit more. My Fender bass sounds fine with out the Fishman preamp and the controls on the amp head work well with it – giving you many mutiple tone combinations depending on how you set them. Also my Fender fretless bass sounds really good through the amp and the matched speaker that you will most likely buy with the head. Quality: Quality seems very high. After about two years of owning and active giging – it is holding up extremely well. Over the last year or so I have taken it out on local gigs about twice a week, So it's been out of my house more than a hundred times so far, and there haven't been any issues so far – all this in all kinds of weather and temperatures. I had black vinyl covers made for the head (from a custom amp cover innernet company)and for both speaker cabinets as soon as I bought everything – so even aften trucking the units all over the place for quite awhile now they still all look fresh and brand new. The power cord that came with it was very stiff and always hard to roll up – so I bought an after market cord on a website cord supplier that was more flexible and easier to wind up. I've used the after market power cord every since. The head has a fan in the back that runs whever the unit is powered up, that when you first get the amp drives you crazy – because it appears to sound so loud. Truth is though while you may hear it running in your house when practing – you never do at gigs. At any gig the room and enviroment background noise easily drown it out right away – you just never hear the fan running at all. When I first got it I though something was wrong with the fan – there wasn't. Its an Ampeg thing – that is the low fan noise in a quiet background setting. Keeps everything cool inside the head – so you can certainly live with it. I got used to it after awhile and don't even notice it anymore. No one has ever commented to me anywhere about any fan noise coming from my amp. So don't think something is wrong with the fan when you first get the head. Value: The original outlay (about $600 for the head and one matching cabinet) is a bit steep compared to several other small bass amps on the market out there – but you get what you pay for I guess. Due to the price saddly – alot of bass players might not be able to buy one and will go with something cheaper out there. Before buying this I looked around for about two months at other rigs on the innernet, at music stores, and at othet musicians' bass rigs when watching them perform. This unit was replacing a Hartke Kickback 12 – which I used for about three years for the same type of smaller gigs – which is for more low volume type of dealsthat I play at – where you don't have to worry about shaking the room and making the paint peel of the walls when you hit your low E string on something like Springsteen's "Pink Cadillac". Sound: I own the Microvr amp and 2 210svtav cabs. I bought the second cab after I got the Mircovr set up. The sound sound you get from this things for the money blows anything else out their out of the water. To get the rated 200watts performance you need a 2nd cab as the load with one cab is 8 ohms at 150 watts. Light weight portability and small footprint size are a plus especially if your space chanllenged. This thing rocks. Features: This is a no frills set up. Has what you need to have great sound with a headphone jack to play practice in a low noise enviroment. Ease of Use: It has a 3 band eq section that you can dial in easy to find a sound you like. After 40 years as a guitar player, I just started to learn the Bass guitar. I love it. I needed a small amp to practice with during times I needed a more quiet practice session and read about this in Bass Player. For a small 2w amp this is amazing. The sound quality is amazing, warm and rich, not brittle and harsh like some small amps in this price range. It does get picky about pickups and likes some pick up systems better then others. for passive and piezeo systems it dials in easy and quick with full rich bass sounds, on some of my pre amp basses though it got quirky depending on the way the bass was set up and the controls set on the bass, so you will need to take the time to dial it in like any other amp. Great little piece of kit though not without a minor flaw. Play4 string bass in regular tuning? It deals with this with no hassle at all and has a clarity and smoothness that you wouldn't expect from a 3w amplifier with a 3" speaker! The only thing I could find to say something negative about it is that it really struggles to deal with a detuned 5 string low G, that said, it's a 3w amp and a 3" speaker, it's asking a lot of many full size rigs to deal with those kind of notes flawlessly! Pros: Surprisingly good bass response for such a small speaker (including on the low B of a 5-string). At 50-60% volume, it can keep up with a drummer and several unplugged acoustic guitars. Really good amp for practice. Plenty loud enough for me as someone who is primarily a guitar player, but also plays bass now and then. I was surprised by how good it sounds for just an 8" speaker. Its a sealed back design, but there's no port. Too bad. I think a port in front would make it almost perfect. I removed the back panel and use it open-back. At modest volumes it doesn't really seem to affect the sound much. With the back on and the cab sealed, there was air whizzing out of the tiny gap in front between the speaker baffle and the electronics chassis. Otherwise, its all good.topa303515
This amp comes with a single "Middle" knob (not separate "mid-low" and "mid-high" knobs). This amp does not have a line out, and it does not have dual inputs like the photo. Why is the product so different from the photo? Why are you not showing the consumer what they are really buying and instead displaying a misrepresentation … an old photo of a an amp with more features? I materiali e la costruzioni sono davvero ottimi , raro vedere ciò in questa fascia di prezzo , ottima anche la d.i e l uscita cuffie che mi ha stupito …ma vi chiederete perché l ho rimandato indietro …perché ha un volume ridicolo , inoltre appena ci dai con il finger style distorce , anche a volumi bassi , ha un cono troppo piccolo e non regge la dinamica di un basso …veramente peccato perché come progetto è veramente ben fatto , peccato che abbiano trascurato la parte più importante .
