I use a Korg Pandora Mini multi effects processing unit to achieve a large spectrum of sounds. That is another unit that I recommend guitar players to use to compliment the sound and functionality of this Pignose Hog 20 amplifier. The Hog handles pedals very well, as I also unit a Biyang Compressor Unit and an Electro Harmonix Linear Boost Unit (both seperately). I have not tried a Distortion or High Gain pedal unit to achieve METAL-esk sounds but I am very sure (almost to a certainty) that this amplifier can handle it. The Pignose Hog 20 is a RECHARGEABLE amplification unit that does what it is supposed to do; produces a clean sound. This sound is very clear and articulate. I will be yet another reviewer that mentions this amp's strong suit is it's CLEAN setting. The amplifier also has a TONE knob to adjust the brightness of the sound, as well as a SQUEAL knob to add an OVERDRIVE voice to the sound. This SQUEAL knob IS NOT a distortion knob. It is best used as a clean boost or to add a small amount of GRIT to the sound. If you are looking for a GAIN suited amplifier, this unit is NOT for you. If you are looking for an amplifier that inspires you to create and play than look no further. This amp is for you! This amplifier is 100% portable. Once the unit is fully charged one can easily take it to a park, garden, school, play ground, lake, beach, or ANY place that does not have an electrically input. Be warned; the juice on this unit only lasts for 8 hours so plan accordingly. The amplifier is very sturdy. Though it is small and compact, and can easily fit into the trunk of a car, it is somewhat heavy (weighing at about 15-20 pounds; maybe less). I can not attest to it's long term functionality for I have only owned it for a week. This amplifier is a STEAL! Its value and practical use far exceeds its cost. My only criticism of this product is that it takes 4-5 hours to charge in the wall before use. This is not an overwhelming disadvantage, only a point worth mentioning to potential buyers.
This product does exactly what I wanted it to. I have to play a wedding with my acoustic at an outdoor event this week where there is no electricity. With an acoustic guitar, you do have to watch where you place it because it will feedback if you're not positioned correctly, but that's no problem because I'm outside. The squeal knob is pretty much worthless to me, but maybe it's better with a solid body electric. I purchased a battery operated ZOOM MS-50G pedal, just to add some eq, compression, chorus, delay and reverb to the Pignose and I couldn't be happier with the results — especially when you consider that this is a battery operated amp.inthesticks53
Don't think this amps 20 watts will be loud. My Jca22h 20w will bury this amp on less than 1. Most 15w and some 10w amps will out do the pig by a long shot[even a 5 watt tube amp] The pig does'nt have a lot of clean headroom either but it's enough for what it's for. It has a decent crunch and distorts easily with humbuckers at higher volume. I don't personally care for the "squeal" knob.Too much "odd" harmonics. What its good for is that it's rechargeable, super portable, and the charge lasts a good bit with the dual beefy battery packs in the back. You can take this anywhere and play. No electric….no problem. And that's a good thing. The best feature is the built in battery packs that can be recharged. Lasts quite a while on a charge too. Well built. Feels and looks solid. You can buy a Fender champion 600 tube amp for the same money or a Fender frontman 25 for less but they're either much larger and you have to have juice to run them. I bought this little amp after reading the previous customer reviews so I decided to take a chance on it. I must admit that I am quite pleased with the amp. Great tone and balance and it will provide ample sound and clarity for a practice amp. Perfect for an apartment or a person to use in a smaller space. It was well worth the price.
Ordered this along with a 5 string gib bass. The items were supposedly shipped at the same time, but I received the bass guitar 8/10 with no clear tracking on where the bass amp is or when it will come in. If I would have known it wasn't going to come in at the same time I would've bought an amp from somewhere else. The guitar is amazing for the price even the though the packaging was beat up and ripped with tape all over like it had been a return. Very skeptic about this and I've sent an email which I haven't received a response.
UPDATE. I received a message from Glarry stating that the Amp shipped separately from the Bass I ordered, and with a different carrier service then the one who brought the Bass Guitar. I give a 4 out of 5 stars, it creates a great sound for being a 20w Amp, it's compact and light. The only thing that I don't like is the fact that the volume nob is vary sensitive. Other than that, it's great.

I picked this up for my son so he could practice around the house. Killer stocking stuffer! When the son is away the dad will now play. Took a chance on this and purchased it without every playing it. Watched video reviews on it and gave it a shot. Yes, I know that it's small in size, smaller than a kids lunchbox but I hoped it'd produce quality sound and what I got was muddy sounds at increased volumes. It's not clear sounding and my goal to play through an amp is to sound good and I felt if I actually played this in front of people, the muddyness would make me sound amateurish. So, for what you pay for this, yes, you get amplified but it's not real great quality, unless you're a metal player because you don't get a clean sound from this. I am one of those guitarists who does not use distortion; mainly playing 50's, 60's, and country. Having done my research the '59 Bassman seemed to be the ideal amp for me with it's clean and full-sounding tones when used with my Fender and Gretsch guitars. Previously, I had used modern-spec amps and simply ignored the high-gain options, but they usually sound too mellow and a bit muddy when used clean, presumably so that when switched to distortion mode, they aren't too "fizzy" sounding. This amp is hands down the best amp I have ever used; no frills, just Normal and Bright channels with common bass, mid, treble and presence controls. Good for humbucker-equipped guitars, too: simply add pedals if you must, but your starting point will always be good tone, which puts this amp ahead of most others. Higher volume settings are likely to induce a little overload (think early Kinks hits), but it all sounds natural and not contrived or OTT.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
This is well known as a preferred amp for Lap Steel and Pedal Steel players, and that's why I bought it primarily. Also for Baritone Guitar (B to B tuning). SO no surprise that it excels on those duties. The big surprise was that this is now my preferred amp for P-Bass with Flatwound strings, vs. my modern Mesa bass amp. Perfect tonal balance, versatile across all playing styles, warm, and plenty of headroom (I only turn it up to 3 at small club gigs). It also excels on Hollow Body Guitars and Telecasters, giving a very even sound across the registers, with warmth, depth, openness, and room for expression. Great sounding amp and the built in two notes cab sim is great. Great metal tones but you’ll need an overdrive pedal to really get the most out of it. Clean tones are gorgeous. MIDI is simple to use to change the channel and various other parameters too. What a fantastic amplifier this is. Worth every penny. The High and Low power settings both give different sounds and are equally usable. For more gain I use a Korg Nu:Tekt Over Drive pedal, they go very well together. I use beyerdynamic DT770 Pro headphones with the cab sim output every day! Have not stopped playing this amp since it arrived and I would say to anyone looking for an amplifier like this that if they are in a position to do so, then buy it without hesitation. My Shergold guitar and my Gordon Smith guitar go so well with this amp- both guitars have Humbucker pick ups and definitely give me the kind of tone that I have been looking for since I first heard JoyDivision more than 40 years ago. The amp works well with my Gibson ES330 guitar too which has P90 pick ups and is sort of an upmarket Casino. If anyone knows the sounds of Bernard Sumner with both the Shergold Masquerader and the ES330 then this amp sounds a lot like his setup without the punishing volume of his Vox. I have also been able to get the Neil Young Cortez the Killer tone pretty convincingly too. No regret at all in buying this amplifier and if it breaks would buy another without hesitation. Huge sounding and a lot of power for such a small amp. The Spark Control App gives you loads of choices from classic sounds to the most modern of amps out there today. You also have tons of effects to use in conjunction with all of these modeled amp choices. All of these possibilities can be saved as your own personal presets which can endlessly be tweaked to make you sound and play your best. The amp is awesome. Well built and solid, very pleasant to look at, easy to use and the sound! Oh man, the sound of that little amp is just beyond belief. Full and rich, it fills the room as though it were five times the size. With the app on my android phone, fine tuning the sound is easy and intuitive, and you can save your sounds as presets if you wish. But even without using the app, the presets that ship with the amp are simply stellar. In my opinion, the amp is well worth the price.Richard L.

I'm restoring this amp as a gift for my son. It needed one tube and all new potentiometers and knobs, and also a bunch of the hardware. I asked him what color he liked, and this is the one he picked. I now totally agree. It looks elegant. It was a lot of painstaking work to get the Tolex cut correctly for the rounded corners, but I am satisfied with the outcome. That is pretty high evaluation, considering that this was my first foray into amp restoration, and the fact that I am a picky, OCD individual. Lugging a bass rig around between shows a practice is hard enough. This 30 lb. "Riglett" is all you need for home. Strap your laptop to it and it gets bigger real quick. If you're playing along with tracks or the software you can have fun or train with it. Records great . Headphone jack is clean and really sounds solid. Fits nicely on my computer desk & audio monitors. XLR out is clean too. I ran an ART tube preamp between the XLR and the board. Makes a great monitor too.Dbone
Great small amp for home or small venues. Love the cleans. Nice Fender sound for a solid state. Don't use the overdrive much, not my cup of coffee. The 15 watts would be better served with a 10 or 12 inch speaker. Nice touch that there is a designated line out for an extension speaker. The stock 8 inch speaker is passable, but doesn't articulate any richness in tone, or have any oomph. Would rather have reverb than the overdrive, but that's just me. A Holy Grail reverb pedal, a Danelectro Tremolo pedal, and an OCD overdrive pedal with this, and i am good to go. All in all, i love it, and have two. Sometimes use a stereo box and run both, which is quite nice. Great grab and go amp. I'm an older player with a bad back who was once a tube amp snob, but not crazy about lugging them. It's like someone shrunk an AC-30. First, as you can see it looks SO COOL. Authentic diamond grill cloth,white piping and gold accents plus chicken-head knobs. Weighs next to nothing. Then you plug it in. Wish it had reverb, wish it had a footswitch to switch channels, wish it was a tube amp. But Vox did an outstanding job of recreating the sound you buy a Vox for; Jangle. Yeah, it's only 10 watts thru a 6.5 inch speaker. But without question this amp is as articulate as any. The gain channel sings; and it's not just noise. Chords ring true and clear and every note is heard. I'd love to have a grand to spend on an AC-30. But for less than $75 Vox has served up a tasty slice of what one is. I'm seriously considering micing it and using it onstage. Don't think twice. You'll love it.lwilli
I actually used one of these for ten years not only for teaching purposes, but playing smaller clubs. It has great tone, plenty of distortion when needed, plus a real spring reverb AND vibrato – great value. A nicely presented small light amplifier, the problem is that the sound is less than perfect and the volume is very low for a 10 watt amplifier. I have gigged in small venues with my Yamaha 4 watt amplifier, this amp would be lost in the background if anyone spoke. I am now using this on an electronic drum kit and it is adequate for home use if you don't mind the noise of your sticks occasionally drowning the sound from the amplifier.the_astrologer

This amp is stylish and well-made and has just enough volume for practice with a small uke group. At full volume and with the gain on half, it is equivalent to my Vox Pathfinder Bass (10W) on 4. The gain at 3/4 gives it more volume but the sound starts getting a bit bright and jangly for the passive pickup u-bass. I'm using with it. Might be ok for a bass guitar. I attached an old guitar strap to the screw-in side buttons which works really well for carrying it.danners17

Open the box, tested with a Katana 2×12 cab, sound was awesome. Same goes to a Laney 2×12 but sounded much more better. Considering the size of the Amp1, the Nanotube is a real deal. Drives is authentic. Growls like the full tube amp head. Cleans nicely from high to low gain. Tried again with a Yamaha powered speaker and speaker out to a BluBox, cuts through with the band easily. Overall: I've been looking for portable, potent, Plexi and then some Marshall tone and kept trying little modelers. Most sounded fine, but I struggled to get them right. I have so many great Plexi sounds…and then some…in my Kemper, but wanted something to fit in a gig bag. I remembered having seen Jack Gardiner's video about this and LOVING the sounds he got. When I played this at NAMM 2020, Hall D was just too loud to really appreciate it. But I remembered liking it. So I ordered it. Wow! Let me tell you, I like it so much I just ordered the Remote1 switch for it to use it for more than just a travel option! This thing sounds phenomenal!More often than not, clean channels sound like afterthoughts. This amp has a beautiful clean channel and when combined with the boost gives you excellent, chimey, pushed clean and Vox-like tone. Henning Paulie had Thomas Blug on and they got really close to his Morgan AC30 style amp. Frighteningly close! Well, it really does it! And the dynamics of this amp are incredible. Even with the boost engaged, I can roll the volume down and clean up the vintage and classic channels nicely! I have a lot of amps. This hangs with the big boys easily. And it takes pedals as well as any big amp. I am so happy I can stop looking for a plexi for my gig bag. zZounds has a great return policy. It won't hurt to try it. I ordered a positive grid 600W head it arrived defective and I returned it the next day I then ordered and paid for a second one because I didn't want to miss out on the deal. Well today I called them because the second head was not being shipped and I was told that I would not be getting the second amp because they were out. They are refunding all my money that's not the problem the problem is I was told they had another to sell me which I was find with even though they should have set one aside because they knew the first one was being shipped back. I was not even offered a deal a a rack one which they have in stock I think I should have been offered a deal on one of the other positive grid. This amp is incredible. Having pretty much any sound at my fingertips, in a unit which can go from whisper quiet (but still great sounding) to stage volume is awesome. The knobs/switches etc all feel like very high quality, and the added software licence is a nice bonus. It may seem pricey, but it is way, way cheaper than buying all those classic amps, and the sounds are indistinguishable. Can't recommend highly enough.malediction99
I was very excited to get the Bias head after many reviews online. To my disappointment, it seems that this amounts to a midi controller for the Bias Amp software and pretty much nothing else. Unfortunately, I was not able to get any kind of usable tone out of this (possibly due to my own lack of understanding or maybe it needs to be run out of a cab) but, the thing that made me give it a two star rating is that I found out the Bias FX software cannot also be used with this head. There is so much more that could have been done with this thing. I am very disappointed with the execution of this product and had hoped for something more than the bare minimum amount of functionality.NICK

I got this as a kinda "backup" to my Marshall DSL40. Im mainly a home player, but this amp is well made and sturdy yet very portable. I think it would fair well in a gigging environment. Its smaller than most 1×12 tube combos which is nice. FYI, I'm using this amp via the four cable method with my GT-100 mainly for switching capability and some effects…delay, gate, wah etc(I have separate settings programmed for my DSL as well). This is a loud amp if you want it to be at 80 watts but also sounds good at lower/moderate volumes. The clean channel shares an EQ with channel 2 but that's not an issue for me. The clean is very clear and punchy. The stock speaker is exceptionally good. The gain channel is really brutal and gets you into Dimebag territory. It packs a lot of great features into a small 1×12 such as an effects loop, XLR speaker emulator out, mid scoop and bass boost features. So here's the thing. This really is a metal amp. If you're looking for a super versatile amp, this may not be for you. IMO, channel 2 it sounds best when the gain is all the way up and you are playing metals riffs and soloing. Im not saying you cant lower the gain and play some crunchy stuff, I just think it sounds best gain cranked. You WILL need a nose gate. I have an ISP in front of the amp and a gate from GT100 in the loop. This is one of the best amps on the market for the money for hard rock and metal. It may not have the bells and whistles of some of the modeling amps out there, but I think it blows them away as far as tone. You can always add effects via a MFX processor.Rob L.
I bought this because of the fairly positive reviews but, more importantly, because the description says that it has "spring reverb." Guess what! It DOESN'T!!! It's a digital reverb. I was specifically looking for a 40 pound combo to have actual spring reverb if that is what is listed in the specifications. Here's the rub: the customer service person here at MF, who admitted to me that he is, in fact, a guitarist, could not comprehend that there is a difference between an actual spring reverb tank in an amp and a digital model of spring reverb. "It has a reverb knob," he responded. I tried to convey that if the description said, for example, "tube amp" and it was a solid-state amp, that would be deceptive, and this is no less so. I argued and pleaded to no avail. SO, as a result, my return was processed as buyer's remorse and, therefore, I'm out the shipping charges. Preposterous! Even when I argued that, had it been properly described as having a digital reverb chip I would NEVER have bought it, I still couldn't convince these folks that this is akin to false advertising and that I should not have to pay to ship this misrepresented piece of garbage back to them – which cost me half the price I paid for the dang thing itself. CAVEAT EMPTOR. And watch these MF policies. . . they are not so customer-friendly any more, and have lost a 20 year loyal customer in the process of this transaction. .Taken advantage of and mistreate
This is just a no nonsense power house. They don't put clothes over the speaker because it's very high quality. They don't try to make it sound like 4 different amps with all these effects like my fender 40 watt champion, which none of those sound great. The gain on the clean channel adds warmth. The emulated speaker line out is nice for recording or wherever you need to run it. Very nicely surprised by this purchase. Best in it's class. I've owned the 50 watt Marshall solid state as well.
