Reviews:
I usually don't write reviews for products, but considering how little reviews there are for this guitar I figured to give it a go. Been playing guitar for just shy of 10 years, haven't really been an acoustic player but to my ears this guitar is well rounded. its got a good mid range punch, but it is very balanced. it does seem a little harsh in tone when compared to my buddys Yamaha dreadnaught's warm tone, it may be just because the strings haven't been broken in or the guitar itself hasn't been broken in. though they are completely different guitars. it did need a little truss rod set up out of the box to reduce some string rattle but after that its playing like a champ. the fretboard could be a little bit smoother but for the price of this guitar I cannot complain. the wide neck makes fretting chords and fingerpicking a breeze. overall this is a great guitar with great value.alaw
Even though advertised as including gig bag, instrument arrived without gig bag. Poor fit and finish on neck, back and sides of guitar. Advertised as "gloss finish," the customer service representative told me matter-of-factly that this guitar has a natural, matte finish. That would not bother me, except for the fact that the "matte" finish feels more like "unfinished"- it is very rough, with large bumps underneath that look like sawdust trapped in the finish. This is all over the sides, back, and the neck/fingerboard where the neck joins the body. These are not random rough patches; this seems almost like it was a feature. There are tearouts in the wood where the side pieces are joined together. The neck joint has a gap between the heel and the body. The finish at the neck joint appears to be cracked underneath the surface. I have another Alvarez Artist Series guitar (ABT60); the fit and finish on that instrument is perfect. I was trusting that another guitar of the same line would share that quality. Sadly, it does not. The customer service rep seemed unperturbed by this information, and asked me "so, what do you want to do about it?" Given the option of returning the guitar at my own expense, I was informed that if I wanted a refund, that would be honored, minus their original shipping cost. That would mean I would be out too much money. I could also exchange it for another product of similar price, or apply the credit towards a more expensive. For what a return would cost me, I may just keep it and try selling it locally on CL. I will not be buying any more instruments over the internet, it's too easy to get burned like this.Paul

Reviews:
I was shopping for a 12 string at local music stores. I have to admit that I often do this and end up buying on line to save money. I'm retired and have to watch my budget. I played many different guitars in the $1500 and down price range. Martin,Taylor,Ibanez,Takamine,Mitchell and others. I was leaning towards the Martin until I played this guitar. The sound is very clear and articulate with better bass than the others I played. The action is low but no buzz anywhere on the fretboard. The neck is wide enough to playing finger style but also easy to chord. Easily transition between this and my 6 string. Fit and finish is excellent with no noticeable flaws anywhere. In my open, you won't find a better guitar for the price.Tmax
I did quite a bit of research in finding an all-solid wood guitar with nice features at a reasonable price before purchasing a MGA77CEAR. I'm really happy with it so far, using it mostly for playing during church worship services. It has nice projection and resonance and is easy to play. The beveled armrest and Paua abalone purfling are nice touches. Also received great customer service from American Musical Supply during the purchasing process.Jonathan B.

Reviews:
Overall: There is a reason that I waited so long to review this guitar. I am notorious for purchasing guitars, and then over the course of a few weeks, I find find something about the instrument that drives me insane, and I either sell it, or trade it off. The Alvarez AP66 broke the trend. It is without a doubt, the best acoustic steel string I have ever played. Now, before you purists start rolling your eyes, let me explain. I have been playing the guitar for thirty-plus years. I have played electric, acoustic, and classical. I love all styles of music, and at one time or another, have focused on one particular style for months or even years. I switch it up to keep it fresh, I suppose. But my love for the guitar has never waned. I have played cheap instruments that blew me way, and I have played boutique instruments that were laughable. I am a firm believer that the it's the player, and not the instrument that matters. With that said, let me get down to the specifics for those of you that are considering purchasing this guitar. The tone of this guitar is astounding. It is warm and full, and it does not lean toward either the bass or the treble. It plants itself squarely in the middle, and allows you to determine the timbre of the sound. It responds equally well to your fingers and to your pick. The volume, like the tone, is up to you. If you dig in, it will rattle the fillings out of your mouth. If you play gently, the sweetness of the sound will give you cavities. The craftsmanship is too good for this price point. I cannot find any flaws in the binding, no excessive glue inside the body, and the finish is truly gorgeous. The setup from the factory, at least on the one I received is spot on. The action is low, but not too low. It plays like a dream. I made the mistake of putting a set of light silk and steels on it, and I got some fret buzz. Parlor guitars have a shorter scale, and they tend to respond better with heavier strings. I guess this is why Strat players can go lighter, and Les Paul players can go heavier. Alas, no guitar is totally perfect. The ONLY issue I have with this guitar is the tuners. They are not on par with rest of the instrument. They bass side has too much play, and the treble side is sticky. I will be replacing the factory tuners with Grover Stat-Tites very soon. I still highly recommend this guitar. It has the punch of a dreadnaught, but the articulation of an OM. I have always thought that 12 frets to the body improved the sound of any guitar, but that's just me. So, for under $400, this is without a doubt the best guitar on the market, and it can hold its own against gutars costing five times as much, Alvarez hit a home run with this one. If they upgraded the tuners, it would be a grand slam.Dru
Overall: The tone from this parlor guitar is incredible. The top resonates wonderfully. The neck is a nice thin profile. Feels great in the hand. Tuners are not only how I expect to see them on a parlor guitar, but work smoothly and hold a tune. It only gets a 4 out of 5 stars as the action leaves a bit to be desired. The nut is too tall. I'll make the adjustments to the action and have a wonderful instrument. Knocked a star off for it is not up to its optimum playing capabilities. Overall a nice instrument.Thomas
The Alvarez AP66SHB parlour guitar I received truly validated the reviews I’ve read about this affordable parlour 12 fret beauty. The glasslike finish, “shadow burst” solid African mahoghany top and abalone rosette are truly eye candy in a surprisingly affordable offering. The tuners could actually be a little more sensitive, but for well under 400 dollars, with a nice gigbag I can’t complain. The tuners work and this guitar stays in tune very well, which IS where the rubber meets the road ! And I can upgrade to compatible Gotohs for a fair price. The best part of this instrument is the tone and I can honestly say that this is the only parlour I have that competes in tone, voice and presence with a parlour I own that cost 5 times the price. ( drops the mic ) …Lenny

Reviews:
Great low cost all solid guitar.Randy
I bought this model yesterday at local GC. It had some scuffs on it and I believe it had been purchased and returned. I bought it because I wanted a lower cost guitar analogous to my Martin 000-28. In the store, I liked the sound and action. Got it home and put new Martin strings on it 12-54. I immediately realized my mistake as these (great strings, I use on all my Martins) strings with slightly more tension than the EXP's the guitar came with, killed the tone and resonance. Be aware that because of the split level bridge, the string break angle at the saddle is quite acute, making for a pretty stiff action-by design..and I understand why Alvareze did this. I removed the heavier Martin strings and replaced with D'Addario EXP-16 strings. This solved the issue. While it's still a pretty stiff playing guitar, it sounds 100% better with original frand of strings. The LR Baggs Element VTC pickup system is also a plus. This is a nicely made guitar with a great, rounded neck profile…just the right thickness. The laurel fingerboard is perfect with a tight grain…if it were a bit darker, one could mistake it for ebony. Very nice tone with great sustain. Very nice guitar at 1/6 the price of the equivalent Martin and I'm glad I purchased it!Bob
Import guitars are no longer junk. This Alvarez got all the goods for a great sounding acoustic. All solid spruce top and solid mahagonyback/sides. Fit and finish on my guitar was perfect and a looker. Frets are smooth and intonation was spot on. Was tuned down for shipping I guess but setup was perfect. Stays in tune after string break in. Comes with D'addario EXPs it seems. Will swap strings only because I like certain strings. Has no case but was expected for the killer price. Got it on sale for 489 and free shipping. Price has since gone up some but still a bargain for what you get. Been shopping musicians friend since before guitar center took over.Chang
7. Alvarez Ap66eshb Artist 66 Parlor Acoustic-Electric Guitar – Shadowburst
Product Details:
Looking for small-bodied acoustic that just oozes 1920s vintage vibe and tone with modern playability and intonation? look no further than the ap66eshb from alvarez. true to its roots, the ap66eshb is a 12-fret parlor guitar with a slotted headstock. unlike many smaller-bodied acoustics, its quarter-sawn, hand-sanded scalloped bracing is placed slightly forward (towards the soundhole) which allows the solid spruce top to resonate more freely. the result is an extremely strong, clear, articulate voice, with an incredible string-to-string balance that lends itself well to both fingerpicking and flatpicking, in standard or alternate tunings. the brilliant high-gloss finish really shows off the beauty of the rosewood back and sides, as well as the rosewood headstock overlay. the lr baggs element pickup and stage pro eq gets all your tone into the pa or onto the tape. throw in a genuine bone nut and saddle, a killer factory setup, and a fit and finish that is unheard of at this price, and the ap66eshb just might wind up being your new favorite!
Reviews:
I rarely if ever write reviews of products but often use them as a general guide in my own purchases. It's time to put some karma back into the system here and give just a brief sense of this guitar. I think it is a phenomenal instrument for the money. I have a large stable of mostly acoustic instruments and I normally prize playability and tone far above aesthetics. However, since I was in the market for a parlor, the distinctive looks on this guitar seduced me. Reviews had been almost uniformly positive (something that rarely happens,) so I pulled the trigger. Really I cannot put it down. Besides being an absolute head-turner, It is so sweet sounding and comfortable to play. The parlor size and mahogany top impart a different sonic character. Words cannot describe sound very well, but the note separation and clarity/sustain are really compelling. I debated between acoustic and acoustic-electric and am glad I got the later. The B-band sounds great and no looking for tuners!A. Stephenson
Best kept secret in guitars. I discovered this guitar by hearing an internet guitar teacher on youtube play some lessons on it. It sounded fantastic, but you're never quite sure how much the audio was mastered. This guitar looks, plays and sounds great. And the LR Baggs pickup system is first rate. I have a Martin D18 that costs about 6 times as much as this Alvarez, and an American made Ovation LX that is quite expensive as well. This Alvarez sounds like a high end guitar. I will not be selling this guitar. It is a keeper.barelyworthit
8. Alvarez Ap30sb Parlor Acoustic Guitar

Reviews:
I am a gigging intermediate level musician and own several guitars. It is very rare when I bond with an instrument immediately. This little guitar is pretty exceptional for it's regular price, and I bought as a Stupid Deal so it was a steal IMO. Very rich and resonant with excellent balance. Well built and no setup work needed. I will say that the length of the neck will take a bit of getting used to – the VERY short scale (24") and being a 12 fret make the neck about 3 inches shorter than a long scale 14 fretter. Fret work on the guitar is excellent and the neck has a nice feel. I'm also glad that Alvarez started making these small guitars with paddle headstocks as I do not care for slotted ones. The nut is also a true 1.75" which is a must for me.Very happy with this guitar.Roy A
A parlor size with great sound and easy playability. Looking forward to the transfer of ownership.Dragonryder

Reviews:
Good beginner guitar, projects sound well, but appears to be an open-boxed item or used as there is what appears to be some gum stuck inside he guitar case and some discoloration/fading on some the frets, and 9 volt battery was already installed and dead. Would not recommend buying musical instruments from Adorama as it appears they are selling used/refurbished items. Also, there are no musicians that work at Adorama.Michael
This guitar felt great right out of the box. The neck is wider at the nut than other guitars that I've played, which for me was a good thing. The action was nice without needing to adjust anything. It's easy to get up and down the neck. The frets could be a little smoother at the edges, but it's really not a problem. I like the full sound, and it sounds acoustic when plugged in.OrangeSmith

Reviews:
This guitar is outstanding. It’s loud, resonant, projects, and has the sweetest voice. I bought this guitar l sight unseen, based off of a demo that J.P Cormier made on YouTube. I am certainly glad I pulled the trigger on this one. The mahogany is stunning, and it’s very light. The neck profile is perfect, going from a soft V to a comfortable C shape in the higher register. The attention to detail is what I expect from a handmade, boutique instrument. It’s such a beautiful guitar! I’ll be doing a video of it on my YouTube channel soon, comparing it to my Martin 000-15M and Martin D15M. I absolutely have to share this one with all of my friends. I’m inspired every time I pick it up. I couldn’t ask for a better finger style instrument, but it is so powerful when I strum it..maybe more than the dreadnought. Don’t hesitate to grab one if you see one for sale. AMS had 3 in when I got mine, and they sold out within a day. You will not be disappointed. Even the case is very nice!Jack the Rabbit
This Alvarez is a sweet guitar! I've had it for a little over a month, and I haven't been able to put it down. I have a few nice acoustic guitars from Taylor, Guild, Yamaha, Gibson, and Martin, but this new Alvarez is my favorite. The neck and frets were perfect right out of the case. Intonation was perfect. No tweaking was required. The build and finish is perfect as well. And I love the appearance of the dark Honduran mahogany. It has a nice warm tone, as expected from an all mahogany guitar. The low end is so smooth, not boomy in any way. The combo of build quality, tone and size of this Alvarez make it a joy to play. I am impressed!Smiley
If a guitar is entirely handmade out of 50-year-old aged Honduran mahogany, you expect it to be great. This guitar lives up to the hype. There are 24 luthiers at the Yairi shop in Japan, meaning you're getting the highest quality possible put into each guitar that they produce. And it shows with this one. The tone is velvety smooth, warm, and it's excellent for fingerpicking. Intonation is spot on everywhere on the neck. For an OM body, it can also get plenty loud with as much bass as you need – while maintaining balance and a beautiful blend between all strings. Highly recommend it if you're able to get one.Drew

Overall: I was so happy to get this guitar and play it right out of the box with no sign of any problems! The sound is above my expectations. The string action was perfect and they make sure it is on every guitar Alvarez makes before it leaves the factory! Better than my Blueridge BR 140 that I thought was perfect. You won't go wrong with this guitar's sound and workmanship! Also, you get an Alvarez Gig bag that is better than a hard shell case for free!
I've played for 50 plus years and very fussy about my acoustics. I never owned a Alvarez because I thought can't be good for the price. I'm talking about the Masterworks line. Well I was wrong this is one amazing acoustic from inside out. Quality bone saddle and nut ebony pins outstanding well finished bracing. This MD60BG sounds amazing good bass but to me more important a good high end sound. We have an upright bass player in our bluegrass band. But that high end if it's off you can't hide that. Up and down the fretboard the high end sings. Volume is very good to this for the money cannot be beat. The only thing and for the price how can I complain I'd rather have the hard case the original models came with. But I put the MD60BG in a good Gator case a good acoustic like this needs protection.Cibby
Overall: The one I ordered arrived dry as a bone, the neck humped and warped, the paint shrunk, the top bellied down, a disappointment out of the box. I put a D'Addario Emergency HumidPak in it to see if it would recover, but the guitar is so weather damaged, the screws for the tuners are falling out. The warehouse is not using any effective climate control whatsoever. This guitar shows signs of severe heating and cooling well out of acoustic guitar storage temps and humidity. It's a real nice guitar, but it's been ruined by negligence at the warehouse as this is not the first guitar I've purchased that came through the same warehouses with the same exact type of weather damage. What a shame. What a waste of time and money. What a cheat turning off climate control and selling guitars for new that are weather damaged — this one was inspected too, it's got the sticker on it. …inspected, thrown in a box with no humid pack and no climate control, that's a huge problem guys and gals! It's time for the manufacturers to pull their guitars from warehouses like these that try and cheat the customer by turning off climate control. I'd recommend the Alvarez but not from a warehouse that turns off climate control to cheat the customer. If the exchange is weather damaged too, we've got a problem! And save yourself the time and money, the HumidPak Emergency kit doesn't work on a guitar this badly weather damaged!Russell

This little guitar packs a huge wallop! Deep bass, nice midrange and great projection. Can't believe this much balanced sound comes from such a small guitar! Sounds great unplugged with clear tone and good sustain. Plugged in, this thing is a monster! Loud, boisterous, and powerful. The neck is the same width as a full size guitar and fits my hand perfectly. All solid wood construction and well designed electronics make this an unbelievable value. The shadowburst finish is unigue and beautiful. All around great guitar with a nice gig bag included. Can't go wrong with this little tone machine!Troy
Overall: The Alvarez Delta DeLite is hands down one of the best smaller Parlor size guitars I've owned. For its size you will not be disappointed most my musician friends are jealous at the sound it produces and the volume for small gatherings or performances. This is rated for kids but don't be fooled it is compact but definitly not just for kids/beginners. I bought this one as a blemished. Their was nothing wrong with this guitar could not have beat their price..zZounds has the best customer service by far some have said differently but I have yet to experience that.Herman
I chose this guitar because I have been interested in purchasing a parlor guitar for some time. I have owned several Alvarez guitars and was pleased with them. I did a lot of research before making my decision and even played different models in the local guitar stores. The price and quality of the Alvarez Is what led me to my ultimate decision . The Alvarez Delta Delite is aptly named as it’s by far the most enjoyable guitar I’ve played in years. . The setup is very good right out of the box. The guitar that was shipped to me arrived in excellent condition and I couldn’t be happier. I opted for the electric model as well. The controls are located on the edge of the sound hole which is nice and doesn’t require any extra holes in the body. I haven’t tried it out through an amplifier yet so I can’t comment on that aspect. I can say that it sounds very nice unplugged and I am having trouble leaving it alone. It also comes with an equally well made gig bag. Well done Alvarez!!!

Reviews:
The guitar is absolutely beautiful. It sounds great and the construction is fantastic.Bruce
Ignore the guy that gave this guitar a 2. Musicians friend has a great return policy so if you get one that is poorly assembled you can return it like he did. This acoustic sounds as good as guitars that are twice as expensive and the pickup is awesome. Look up the reviews on the pickup (4.9 out of 5). I have a couple buzzy frets at the 12th string, but I personally do not spend a lot of time up there with acoustic guitars so I could care less. The tone from the guitar and pickup are excellent for this price. I compared the tone to other similarly priced guitars and this one had tone that was far superior to the others.Jaime
Lots of things are different from the Original MD60eBG, Tuners Binding, Inlays, Saddle, and nut, Your not buying an MD60eBG but I believe that what counts in the sound department is the same. This guitar sounds great, But I would not recommend it for the retail price, discounted yes go for it but at retail, I would buy the MD60eBG that it copiesChris

Reviews:
I purchased an Alvarez AP66SHB parlor guitar in August from Musician's Friend. It was a beautiful guitar, solid Mahogany top, slotted headstock with a short scale and sweet sound. All this plus a glossy SHB finish and a cracked bridge. I called MF shortly after discovering the cracked bridge and they made all the arrangements for return. I liked the guitar so much and was impressed by it's looks and sound I decided to upgrade to the all solid wood Masterworks line of the same guitar the MPA66SHB thinking the Masterworks line would at least be free of defects found on lesser models. No problem upgrading with Musician Friend. All my contact with the "Gear heads" were helpful and informative and after an extended wait for availability my Alvarez arrived. The box it was shipped in had a crushed corner and a side was tore open but still holding together. I removed the guitar carefully inspecting for damage and was thrilled nothing was broke. It has the same features as the first parlor with a little extra added besides just being all solid wood. Ebony buttons, ebony bridge pins and Abalone purfling that compliments the Abalone trimmed rosette. The glossy finish that accompanies the SHB finish over the mahogany wood is stunning. Until you notice it is also applied over top of the Abalone accents obscuring any hint of it's sparkle. So much for the Alvarez Masterworks series to let a guitar finished like this slip by their quality control. This is not the guitar I would have picked to take home from a music store. At best it is a factory second. I am certain Musician's Friend would replace this instrument and I would receive another in a few weeks but I was given a good price and I was treated well and rather than go through another cycle hoping the "next one" will be right, I will, disappointed as I am , keep this one. Lesson learned.Ted
Ordered an Alvarez Masterworks Parlor sight unseen from Sam Ash. The good: little guitar arrived pretty quickly, in good condition. As nice as I could have hoped. The not so good: the little parlor guitar arrived in a huge gig bag that fits my dreads perfectly. The little parlor looks adrift in such a large case, and many days later Sam Ash and Alvarez are still "looking into it". Sam Ash's price was the lowest around, but after I buy a case for this little masterworks, it won't turn out to be a deal after all.Doc near Nashville
18. Alvarez Artist Elite Aga99cearshb Grand Auditorium Acoustic Electric
Product Details:
The aga99cearshb is one of the most attractive guitars alvarez makes. the idea to create this model was made several years in advance when alvarez acquired the acacia. the wood was then naturally seasoned for three years before they prepared it for production. when you have special wood you have to create a special instrument. this guitar sounds lovely. its bright but not overly so. it has lots of middle and a clear low-end due to its mst1 bracing – allowing the top to generate a lot of vibration. most people are more familiar with koa rather than acacia, but the fact is they are the same tree. koa is an acacia too but comes from hawaii, where our acacia was grown in taiwan and therefore called acacia confusa, rather than acacia koa. this wood is also referred to as formosan koa, formosa being the old name for taiwan.

Reviews:
I'm a pretty big fan of Alvarez acoustic guitars, having a few Yairi's and loving them. I acquired this model as used/nearly new elsewhere since I don't own a cut-away spruce top. *The fit and finish were outstanding with no issues with lacquer or the binding. [There were 2 slight streaks of dark brown paint on the back of the neck that I have mostly knocked down with 0000 steel wool]. * The neck has a nice low C shape and a low gloss, smooth finish that the steel wool buffing got down to a very smooth and fast surface. * Fret ends were well dressed & no sliding snags on the treble side. 2 frets a little snaggy on 2&3 on the bass side that a dressing file will eliminate with next string change. * The neck relief was too high [.027"], with a bit of forward bow, on arrival. Used the supplied hex wrench to tighen the truss rod ~ 1/2 of a full turn. Relief now a very playable [.008"] with no string buzz fretting up and down the whole length of the finger board. [I did note some buzzing on low E with a capo @ 3, so may need to back off the truss a skosh]. * The playing action was too high @ 12 on arrival: 7/64" … sanded a fair amount of the saddle bottom off, getting the action @ 12 down to very workable High E: 3/64"; Low E 5/64". * The nut grooves were spot on leaving you just apaper thick gap @ 1, when fretting 2. * Intonation also quite good up & down the neck [with a light touch] and pretty much spot on @ 12. * Changed out the D'Adario phosphor bronze strings it came with to new D'Adario EJ26 11-52 phosphor bronze. * Light oil on the rosewood fingerboard & bridge, which were both looking a tad thirsty … soaked in quickly. * Carnuba waxed & buffed the body all around. All of these things are more or less standard things you expect to do when you get a new or new to you acoustic. I actually prefer when a maker leaves you some room on the truss rod and saddle to adjust it to your own personal tastes. Folks who may not have the tools or interest, may feel otherwise and want their guitar to arrive completely setup. So, this left me with a very playable, well built acoustic cut-away laminate spruce top over mahogany, that's also light, & attractive. * I like the 1/4" jack being offset and separate from the strap button a LOT. Another strap button came installed right at the heel of the neck, where I like them * Overall it sounds pretty good unplugged, with fairly rich bass tones with a bit of bite and the mids and highs project well without harshness. * Plugging in gives it a lot of boost and the 3 band EQ helps you mix your electric voicing fairly well. * The Piezoelectric transducer pickup under the saddle works well with decent balance, but the highs do seem a bit favored. It suffers from the same issues they all do: transmitting shocks and vibrations from the soundboard. You can hear the strike of an aggressive finger pick a tad more than I like. * The supplied Alvarez gig bag is an added bonus. It has fairly thick padding, nice look & finish, 2 fairly spacious front pockets. The shoulder straps are well padded and ergonomically curved. It also has a hook loop near the top for hanging. Overall, this is well built, well designed, quality laminate spruce top acoustic guitar, made of quality components, that plays well and sounds quite good. At this price point, it's an outstanding choice for a first acoustic guitar, student guitar or for anyone looking for one they can play all day and travels travels well with it's quality padded case.smsdba
My Alvarez is the RD16CE but I wanted to take a moment to thank Alvarez for their excellent service. The output jack on my CE failed 2 years after purchase. Even though it was out of warranty Alvarez still agreed to send me the entire pickup assembly free of charge Now that's service after the sale!Bigtime Jimbo
