Agile 10 String Guitar For Sale (Jan 2023 Update)

I bought an LTD M10 about a year ago and love it so much that I bought an EC10 too, planning on slapping some humbucker-sized P90s in it for a different tone. Here's the details on how DIFFERENT these two guitars are, despite appearing more similar at first glance. – Headstock shape; just personal preference. I prefer the 3+3 design of the EC (functionally). – Scale length; the EC has a slightly shorter scale length (24.75" vs 25.5") than the M, making it somewhat easier to play, especially when performing wide stretches and chording. Bends are easier due to lower string tension. The longer scale of the M I believe contributes to superior tonal qualities. -The EC has a painted neck back to match the body. The M has a natural satin transparent finish. Personal preference, but I prefer the transparent finish for the more natural feel. -Both guitars have a 350mm (13.7") fretboard radius, which is somewhat flat, but not extremely so. -The EC has 24 frets, while the M has 22. -The M has slightly better upper fret access since the body shape is less restrictive of fretting hand thumb placement. -Both guitars have TOM bridges, but the M is strung through the body, whereas the EC has a stop tailpiece. String thru designs are lighter and arguably provide more resonance, but the tailpiece is adjustable, allowing you to raise or lower string tension. -Slightly different control layouts, particularly with the pickup selector; a blade on the M vs a toggle on the EC. -EC is slightly heavier. -Strap button placement affects strap retention and where the guitar hangs. The M retains a strap better and sits "closer" (further right) due to the horn, providing easier lower fret access. The EC has no horn so it sits "further" out (further left), naturally guiding the left hand towards the middle of the neck. -The EC sounds beefier, but muddier. The M has clearer but a BIT thinner tone. -The M is made in China and the EC is made in Indonesia. Hope this helps you decide between the two.Pazuzu

I did not buy mine from MF, but I had to put in my opinion. I bought my EC-10 from some guy who posted it on an app. He had not taken very good care of it and the body had a lot of dings and chipped paint. The neck was still good and the hardware was solid. I stripped off all the paint and sanded out most of the dings, stained it and put a coat of shiny finish on it. Topped it off with a new set of EMGs (just my preference the stock pups were actually pretty nice). Now it is one of my favorite guitars to play and I wouldn't give it up for anything. If my used and abused old EC-10 can be this good, I can only imagine what a brand new one could be like. May be buying a new one in the near future.Chris

I am just beginning to try and teach myself to play guitar. So I'm hesitant to give it any kind of star rating or say anything about the guitar in regards to quality of playability, electronics/pickups, tone or any of that important stuff, as I don't have the experience to fairly do so. I've played drums for about 20+ years in bands, so have been around plenty of guitar gear that I know was good. Vintage or custom Gibson and Fender guitars with high end or specialty pickups and hardware, running through half stack 100 watt Mesa Boogie triple rectifiers, 100 watt Marshall JCM 800s/900s, Vox AC 30s, Orange Rockerverbs, Sovteks, etc. Pretty much guitars and amps that sound amazing and are my only in person points of reference. However, It would be completey unfair to try and compare this sub-$200 guitar going through my little Blackstar HT5R combo to the guitars and rigs mentioned above that I'm used to drumming along with. My girlfriend was wonderful enough to buy this guitar for me and she took a good friend who's played for 20+ years and has a 1978 Les Paul himself and after checking out/playing a few lower budget guitars in the store, some in the used section that cost a little more, he recommended this one. Said it played good to him, didn't have the fret buzz that the guitar I wanted to replace had and happened to be the sweet satin black finish he remembered me saying I liked. To sum it up, I doubt this is a guitar any of the experienced players I know would have, but as a beginner still trying to figured out how to fret chord shapes, I'm very happy with this entry-level/budget guitar. Only minor complaint I have so far is that the low E (which I drop to C or D) string seems to need frequent tuning. I'm considering taking it to GC for a proper setup and have larger gauge strings put on, so hoping that might help. But for the price I'd say it's worth any beginner checking out. If only these entry level guitars would include some in-person lessons, lol.Marcus E.

besides the weird booming sound coming from the amp when strumming, and the guitar constantly being out of tune. i would suggest this to a friend when starting out. however if you have more prior experience, get a better guitar and amp than this one. other than that, the price is somewhat equal to the quality of the guitar.thao

…so I purchased this as an alternative to my acoustic guitar. The 1st thing I noticed is how light it was. The maple neck was a different feel and gave me more accessibility to the frets. Once I got the guitar in tune I was surprised how nice it sounds. The amp is not the best, but if you don't have one, you won't notice. Overall I like this guitar. Thank you Fender for making an affordable electric guitar. I would get this again for a beginner. As I progress, this guitar is pushing me to upgrade to another Fender. It's that good. I have always been pleasantly surprised at the quality of these cheaper Squier Affinity and other similarly priced Squier guitars. I have played Squiers for decades, including jazz basses, Teles, and of course this Stratocaster. It plays as well as a guitar can play. It looks absolutely gorgeous. It sounds like any much higher priced Strats and the humbucker is a great go-to for playing leads without having to have a pedal boost or having to go to the amp controls for boost. It set up as well as any Fender I have worked on and I have worked on quite a few over the years. I would not hesitate to use this guitar on any stage or in any studio production. The frets needed no top or side dressing and no leveling.bobvarns

I bought my fiancé and I a new Martin. I got her a Martin Dx2e and I got this one. I received mine first since I ordered from here which was wonderful. I got hers off of reverb because ams didn’t have sunburst which she wanted. I was not picky about color but I went with this one. I was super excited to say the least because this was my first Martin Guitar. I also purchased another guitar last year from Ams and I loved it. I digress and move forward to getting it. So I opened it up and I was super pleased with how perfect it looked. Then I started playing it. It was great until I went to play a D chord or anything that involved the high E string. It is cut way too low on the nut and the slightest pressure makes the string fall off the fret board. I thought maybe it was just me, however my father in law to be, which is a professional had the same issue. Also my fiancé had the same issue. Needless to say, I tried to make it work. I sent Ams an email. No response. I guess I’m stuck with this 1k dollars in a guitar that is going to need to be repaired at a shop when it’s brand new. So overall, if you want to take the risk, go for it. My fiancé got the Dx2e and it’s stellar. I would rather have one like hers than this one tuner or not. Hers sounds much better too. The looks and everything else is fine. Just the bottom string is way way too low.Brittany

Sound: Unplayable, neck is crap Features: Doesn’t matter what you do to adjust the neck , it is crap Ease of Use: I wouldn’t know , this guitar should never have been allowed to be released . The neck is unacceptable Quality: It looks pretty. If I wanted a pretty guitar to never be played then it would be ok . But you can not even play this $900 piece of crap. Extremely frustrating Value: Absolutely no. Buy another brand. Breedlove would be my best choice as I bought one and absolutely loved it out of the box . Best acoustic guitar I ever played Manufacturer Support: I have contacted Martin. No authorized repair shop within 100 miles of me in my state . Martin should be ashamed of this garbage The Wow Factor: Martin name sucked me in . Never ever again if they don’t want to fix this piece of junk Overall: I have been playing and working on my own guitars since 1975 . This is absolutely the worst guitar I’ve ever owned. The neck has an S shape to it . The relief is acceptable up to the 7th fret , after that it rapidly accelerates to an unusable 1/4 inch at the 12th fret . No matter how much you attempt to adjust it, it simply is unplayable. I am ashamed to even take it out of the bag . Martin quality control seriously blew it big time on this guitar. I own dozens of guitars and waited until my retirement to buy that Martin guitar of my dreams. This is a nightmare, not a dream. Stay away from this piece of crap . No matter what adjustment you do to the truss rod , it won’t help. Bass to treble side is extremely different. 1/4 inch on the bass side at the 12th but the treble side is marginally better. However, the S shape of the fretboard makes the guitar unplayable unless you like staying in the cowboy chord area . My Ovation, Breedlove,Fender , and Gibson acoustic guitars are brilliant examples of guitar playability. This Martin was to be my final guitar since I have only played them and never owned one . I can’t even play this piece of garbage. Martin has no dealer or authorized repair shop within 100 miles of me so I am stuck with a $900 piece of firewood. Never ever will I buy anything with that name again. That’s all they are, a name. How this got by quality control blows my mind. I have $200 acoustic guitars that are much better than this. Totally disgusted by my experience with this guitar.Gregory

I had this on my wish list for a couple of years and after finally getting to try it out at my local Sam Ash, it did not disappoint. Online reviews were consistently good with a few mentions of the strings being coated and how it gave an unusual feel and sound. According to the Michael Kelly website, the strings are D'Addario EXP16 Coated Phosphor Bronze, Light, 12-53, so they shouldn't be some off the wall knock offs but my experience over the last few weeks has been that after a few minutes of playing, the tips of my fingers on my fret hand and the palm of my strumming hand turned black. I've never had this happen on any other guitars I have. I tried rotating after 15 minutes between my Jackson, my Strat, my Martin Backpacker and then my Michael Kelly and, every time, after a few minutes of playing the Forte Port, my fingers turned black. I've played a lot of guitars since the 80's (not professionally) and this is a new one on me. Obviously, the strings can be changed but I feel it is worth mentioning because for someone's first guitar, it may be off putting if they are unaware. If I can edit a review, I'll try to add a pic of my fingers (there's no way to make that sound right…) when I get time. That's my two cents…Sean

Overall: I was reluctant to buy this Michael Kelly. I like to try it before I buy it . With that being said , The guitar come it flawless. It was packaged very good . I played for about an hour after opening the box. The action is spot on. It plays and feels more like an electric guitar. Hammer on pull offs pitch bends are perfect. The sustain goes on forever. The neck feels a touch wider than my Martin, but that's a good thing for me. There are no fret buzzes at. It's vert light and comfortable , light weight is a must , I have had shoulder surgery 3 times. The balance and weight are near perfect . Michael Kelly may not have the prestige of Martin. Gibson and such , but as far as the sound and quality build , it simply can not be beat in this price range.Mark

Excellent craftsmanship! The neck feels really great. Had no sharp fret ends and the satin finish is top notch. It came with a really nice set up and low action out of the box. Electronics are really decent to. Bridge pickup got a bit muddy with heavy distortion, but did well under a crunch setting. Middle and neck positions were buttery smooth with clear differences in tone. The 3-way switch is excellent quality as well, which is usually isn't the case. Wiring is great, but I opted to switch it out with Emerson wiring harness anyways. Overall, you can't beat this guitar. I bought a Vintera 60s Jazzmaster before this one and I would pick this Squier over the Vintera any day..Diego

I'll second the review that says he'll leave her stock. I do like it as is as well, and I also hear Strat/Teleish sounds out of this thing. I thought when buying it would be a heavy rock type guitar not so it's very fender single coil like w/ out the hum… nice! I will say the amp makes loads of difference tube vs solid state. It sounds great through a tube amp and mehh through the other. Had some fret buzz that needed adjusted out but other then that I like it. It's a good buy in either color I'd say.👍🏼🤘🏼✌🏼Brado

Not very nice. Box came opened, missing instruction manual and documents. Tags cut off. Scuff marks on back. What’s with that AMS? I ordered a new guitar. The guitar after needing to be set up is amazing otherwise. I love it and still want to keep it even though I was disappointed at first. My only complaint is that the gig bag is flimsy, no protection and the guitar doesn’t really even fit right because the gig bag is too big.Leo

Sound: This is probably the best sounding guitar I have ever played. I had the privilege of playing a '48 Fender Jazzmaster, which to date was the most versatile guitar I had used…until I played this one. It literally sounds great with any style I have thrown at it, blues, metal, folk, classic rock, even some country my buddy plays… they all sound great, I was really surprised. The five way switch allows for excellent low end, mids, and highs, I really would not change anything. Features: The Edge Zero II tremolo is unbelievable, I have beat the crap out of it and it doesn't lose tuning even a little bit. There are videos of Nita picking it up by the whammy bar and bouncing it and it stays in tune, I haven't done that (yet) but I have been rough with it and I find it flawless.The Dimarzio Pandemonium pickups in the bridge and neck are the star of the show as far as sounds, it's incredible what you can do with them tone-wise. The True Velvet single coil is really top of the line no complaints at all with the hardware or electronics. Ease of Use: This guitar is designed to play fast, but really I found that it can handle any sound, The five way switch and the tone knob make it super easy to dial in what you want on the guitar itself. Once I had it setup, the playability is great, I can't think of anything I would change. The S style body is light and comfortable, I have played for hours with a strap and barely notice that it's there.As far as restringing with the floating tremolo, I must say it was the easiest floating tremolos I've ever restrung. Once it's setup just use the same brand and size string and it was like tuning a fixed bridge.I did have to have the guitar setup the first time, but that's pretty standard for any guitar out of the factory. Quality: The finish is fantastic. As I stated above, you really have to see it in person to get the full depth and effect of the finish, it shows more in some videos I've seen, but I don't think the photos do it justice. The Beaten Path inlay really makes the ebony fretboard pop out. the 3 piece Nitro Wizard neck is effortless to play on, I really like that the finish on the body is also on the headstock. The body and hardware are professional quality, I found no flaw in mine at all. I think the guitar will last more than a lifetime if properly cared for. Value: I thought the price was a little high compared to the Jem and other higher end Ibanez products, but once I played it and compared it to the other products, I feel it was worth the extra couple hundred. The ability to get practically any type of tone and have it sound amazingly good in all of them… well it was worth it to me anyway. I definitely recommend trying one out and seeing for yourself. Like I said earlier, I dismissed it and once I saw it and handled it in person, it's the one I bought…so… Manufacturer Support: I have not had to contact customer support but Ibanez is known to have good support. The Wow Factor: The Jiva looks amazing, sounds even better than it looks. The craftsmanship is not lacking in any way I can think of. You can find guitars that look and sound great, but I have not found any that are as versatile and fun to play as this one. I would recommend it and maybe even purchase a second myself. Overall: I purchased this guitar through a local store. I actually was looking at the Blue Floral Jem, or Genesis RG series reissues, I played a couple of Jacksons and a Charvel too. Then I tried this JIVA 10 and I must say it blew me away, the sound is just killer, and the way it looks is fantastic. The finish is really one you have to see in person to get the full effect of, the pics don't really show it, but it has a greyish green tinge to the color that I think is really awesome and gives the guitar a great look. Honestly I had dismissed the guitar when looking at most sites online due to the photos and lack of reviews, but I was wrong to do so, seriously this is worth checking out and comparing, I walked away with it over the Jem and it was an easy decision…(sorry Steve).Jason

What a brilliant guitar and superb value package! I have owned ‘real’ Gibsons over the years and bought this outfit as a birthday gift for my granddaughter who is learning to play. She has had a fender acoustic for a couple of years and now wants her own electric guitar. I chose this outfit as having previously owned one in the past I like Epiphone guitars. Before giving it to her I thought it best to check it over and set it up but there was nothing to do really, after tuning this guitar was perfectly playable right out the box! The feel, balance and weight is very like my Gibson and the sound is superb. The amp is excellent and packs enough punch to put a smile on your face too. She’s delighted with the built in tuner as well as the other essentials included in the outfit. What’s not to like? I can’t find a better value package!W O.

My original review still stands, but I made cosmetic-only upgrades for less than an average couple's meal at a casual restaurant that makes this look much, much more expensive. No tuner, pickup or pot swaps. Replaced black plastic parts with cream, added cream pickguard, replaced chrome tuner knobs with Klausen-style ivory-look knobs. Installed chrome pickup covers. Replaced speed knobs with gold top-hats.Easily done to make this look like a proper Les Paul. I'm happy with the looks for the little extra money spent.Steve

As the song says: "I'm a Sucker for a Cheap Guitar". I own over 30 – some cheap, some not so cheap. This one arrived perfectly set up: low action, no buzzing, no sharp fret edges, easy to play – amazing for a guitar in this price range. Although not great, the pickups even sounded acceptable. It's heavy, which to me means good, though not as heavy as my Gibson. It's OK-looking, but needed something to enhance it – a pickguard. I added one and it looks much better – more expensive. Instead of cutting off part of the guard to accommodate the knob as I've seen some others do, I drilled a hole big enough for the nut on the body underneath the knob to fit through the guard (see photos). Since the guard isn't much thicker than the nut, it allowed the guard to fit flush with the body and the knob to turn without any restriction of motion, and the pickguard is not butchered. It's a very clean look – like it came that way – not modified. So, I am pleased with this instrument, and would recommend it to anyone for any purpose: especially beginners to play or someone like me who just collects cheap guitars to hang on the wall of their studiio.Steve

Highly recommended first guitar. I bought this for my 7 year old son after having a bad experience with a cheap epiphone which would not stay in tune. We sold the epiphone and I picked up one of these m10 ltd. I play a KH WZ model which is over £1000 but it’s the same shape and dimensions including the thin u shape neck and jumbo frets. My KH WZ is the most comfortable guitar I have played and this feels like a fairly faithful copy. I have owned more expensive guitars which don’t play as well. Even my Mexican fender strat wasn’t as fun to play as the M-10. The positives are. 1. Stays in tune including intonation 2. Fairly fast / comfortable neck 3, good weight/solid build 4. Metal knobs. The only drawbacks are 1. that there is a knot in the wood on the neck (although I’m fine with this) 2. you can see a scarf joint on the neck 3. The set up needs sorting out of the box. In terms of set up I had to adjust the truss rod, raise the action and sort the intonation and within 15 mins I had a great playing guitar. Not only this but the tuning was very stable and the intonation was very easy to tune. If your practicing setting up guitars this one is nice and easy. The pick ups are fine, but my opinion is that the body is great and you could upgrade the electrics into something more meaty. However Ive taken this to rehearsals and I’m pretty pleased with it. No sprouting frets, plays well and feels solid. I own Gibson, Ibanez, and Fender Guitars but overall ESP/LTD are my favourite brand as they are well built and well priced. I would say this was better than others in this price range and the thin u shape necks are generally very comfortable.Rob

I have a very nice acoustic-electric I've had for about a year and wanted to start working on electric guitar and didn't want to spend big money. This guitar was a surprise. Great playability, the fret finish and rounded edges on the neck are super smooth making are very comfortable neck to hold and play. Fret access all the way to the 24th fret is very impressive. Many 24 fret guitars aren't very accessible and don't play clearly up high. but it's effortless and still feels like you can go further if added more frets. Versatile guitar with a wide array of tones available, from coil tap Stratocaster like tones to the rich deep bark you'd come to expect from a Les Paul. Absolutely love this guitar. This was my first PRS guitar purchase. I purchased it based on the reputation of the company and reviews I found online. I ordered the violin finish. When I received the guitar and laid my eyes on it I was seriously disappointed. The flame maple top was horrible. The upper half had a much less noticeable flame to it and the lower half while partially nicely flamed it was completely missing flame and was bare grain around the switches. I showed it to a couple of friends who own PRS s2 guitars and they were shocked it was allowed to leave the factory like that. The only reason I rated it a 2 star and not 1 was because it only needed a light setup to be playable but even then the sharp fret ends will need some attention. I would not recommend this guitar to a friend, especially with the price tag.Derek

I purchased this S2 Custom 24 from American Music Supply a music dealer in my personal opinion is outstanding to deal with! I have made many purchases from AMS they are fantastic. As a Tele player who was in need of a humbucking guitar, do to a working cover band. I purchased this PRS because I didn't want a bottom line made in China guitar for $699 but felt someplace in the middle would get me something decent. This guitar is WAY over priced for what it is! The neck, for me was extremely uncomfortable, wide thin. The hardware is all made over seas and extremely cheap. I received the guitar, played it for about 30 minutes. The action was high and there was a buzz coming from the bridge. After 40 years of playing I know a poorly made guitar when I put it in my hands. The pick-ups sounded ok but lack clarity. PRS can do better! The color and finish was gorgeous! PRS is great at that. But C'mon Paul, give us something better for $1699! That's a lot of money for some people! I can see these S2's flooding the re-sale market for about $750 in one or two years, just like the MIM Fenders. Which re-sale value just stinks! I had two high end PRS's the P22 for $3600 brand new I sold it for $1600. I had a 10 Top 594 semi Hollow body for $4100 which I sold for $2000. I lost my shirt on those guitar because the market is flooded with PRS's that wont sell. I was lucky enough to send this one back and NOT have to re-sell it. Thank-God! At $1699 buy a used core PRS model or a USA Fender its still the best bang for your buck. Or a Studio USA Gibson Les Paul. I believe PRS makes great guitars and now they are trying to get a little above the K-Mart guitar market. It needs better pickups and better hardware. Oh…the locking tuners were good! Always wanted a real deal Japanese made PS10. Got an awesome deal on an open box unit. This is a beautiful instrument! Fit and Finish is far superior than that of the PS120. The PS120 is an awesome guitar as well, however you can see the difference in the attention to detail with the PS10. It's all about pride in what you do.Chachi

Overall: First off I'd like to respond to the previous reviewer. He stated that there was zero sustain with the 594. The specs state that the pickups are LT which means Low Turn. The guitar was built for the vintage gang out there and these particular pickups are not high output but that's nothing that a boost pedal won't remedy. Had the previous reviewer researched this instrument, he would have found that the pickups excel in clarity and definately have the vintage vibe. What Paul was trying to do was make an instrument that would have followed the progression of a Les Paul. Also if the reviewer wanted a guitar for anything including hard rock and metal, he should have picked up the Custom 22 or 24. With that being said, I love this model and have had one for several years. I will also be buying another one but a single cut this time in March. If you want quality buy a PRS or Music Man. You just can't go wrong with PRS..Matt

Overall: I've had several PRS guitars, from core Custom 24s to SE's to S2's. This example is an S2 McCarty 594. It feels nice, looks nice and plays nice. That's about the extent of it. It doesn't do anything to excite the senses. I have a Prestige Heritage Standard that just begs to be played and is inspiring. These guitars, while solid, are just kind of "meh". There is one thread that I find runs through most, if not all PRS guitars I've tried; I absolutely do not like PRS pickups. The ones in this McCarty are very dull, like a blanket has been thrown over them. No clarity, they're just "there". In summary, these are good guitars, but you'd really need to spend some additional money to make them great. Whether or not you want to go down that road is, of course, up to you. But no matter what, zZounds is awesome, and they are my go-to retailer. Very easy to deal with.Keith

I bought this as a beginner. To the untrained ear, as in my case, this guitar will last for a long time until I'm ready to upgrade. I recommend this set to any age group that would like something to start with.Justin

I am BLOWN AWAY!! I have gotten a LOT of guitars in the mail lately and this one is THE BEST DEAL I HAVE EVER HAD ON AN ELECTRIC GUITAR IN MY LIFE! Someone set this up PERFECTLY! I tuned it and it plays AWESOMELY!! The action is perfect. Nice, heavy construction, smooth neck, low action, perfect nut, perfect frets, even set up for 10's and that's the size I always use! Mine came with a hard case but they usually sell with a bag and you can see that they aren't just thin layered cheap bags, they are padded with zipper pockets and look like a heavy duty backpack for your instrument. The sticker on the peel-off plastic says it was set up here in the USA and you can tell. The ChromaCast cases are excellent, their cables are great, heavy duty, the picks are even pretty good, the strings are called Maximum Sustain and it does have noticeably long sustain! Sawtooth guitars are a cut above all the other lower priced instruments. I've played most of the less expensive guitars available today and Sawtooth guitars are top notch! I even saw Micheal Angelo Bateo playing them in the last NAMM videos! They are WORTH IT! A total joy to play! I will be getting more of these and you should too!!morbidforbid

Father Christmas got this guitar for my 11yr old son this year and he hasn't put it down! He started teaching himself acoustic guitar a few months ago and has been absolutely fixated. He asked Father Christmas for an electric guitar and this is what turned up Christmas morning. He absolutely loves it. The pickup selection was broken from the start. The price is good for a beginner’s first guitar, however if the pick ups are broken it’s going to create big problems for a new guitarist when finding their way around their guitar for the first time.Henry
