Over all, this is the best Bass book out there, (that I've used) and given that it is a little vague in some areas it still isn't a problem if you read through the chapters first!Mo' Bass
It came faster than expected but it didn't have a CD with it like the description said. It's pretty good it teaches you slapping and tapping which is what I'm primarily looking for. I wish it had more reading and picture demonstrations.alysscardie0
I wanted to begin playing bass, so I began messing around with bass guitars at GC in my price range to see which ones I felt comfortable with. Anyway, I started talking to one of the salesmen and he recommended this book. So I went home and started reading some of the reviews and decided to buy it. Some of the reviews state that the author wrote this book for guitar and just revised it for bass, which happens to be true as the author states himself in the book. All in all this seems like a very well written book and I feel it will be a great asset while learning to play bass. MJS also has these same lessons in DVD format which I may buy to compliment the book lessons.

Reviews:
I bought this with hopes of being able to speed up and down the neck of my bass and improve my three finger technique. I was a little apprehensive, figuring that this DVD would just have Billy sit down, tell you what he was going to do, do it, and then just move on (like most DVDs). However, Billy gives in depth explanations on what he does and how he does it. I almost felt that I was actually in a lesson. If you are trying to break from an intermediate playing level you should consider getting this DVD. It will help you understand some creative techniques, work your fingers with exercises, and even help answer some questions on gear. This is an excellent and informative DVD and with the book to help push its lessons it only makes it that much easier to learn.ThatGuyThatPlaysBass

Reviews:
This book is very easy to follow and understand. It will unlock the mystery of the fretboard that keeps so many people from picking up the instrument, easy to follow instructions and theory, lots of pictures and diagrams that are easy to apply to the guitar, so you can start making music within the first few minutes, this isn't a magic pill or anything, and you have to be willing to put in some practice time to develop your abilities but it's a very good resource for someone looking to learn to play Bass, I have also used the Visually series book which was written for just guitar, by Charles Kim and it too is a very good place to start. Bottom line is, for less than the cost of a music lesson you can get a head start on understanding what it takes to make music with this book, then find a teacher to work on your particular style with you after you use this book for a short time.live_sweet_market
