I bought this guitar to check out a budget friendly offering from Yamaha. I have to say I was not disappointed! Excellent tone and volume, the top really resonates. The guitar was really well setup right out of the box. It needed about 3/4 of a clockwise truss rod adjustment, no prob. Other than that it didn't need any fret dressing whatsoever. That's really impressive for a Chinese guitar. Heck even one of my Mexican Martins needed fret dressing out of the box! Also intonation was spot on and this also is important in your guitar. There is a point of quality when an instrument reaches when it stops being seen as "better or worse" but rather just a different flavor. This Yamaha has reached that point. You can play it alongside a guitar costing 5x more and it stands up well. Yamaha is also one of those rare companies with a long history of top quality across all kinds of products, and guitars are an area Yamaha knows well. This is just a beautiful guitar through and throughout. You can get beautiful uncompromisingly great studio recordings with this guitar. I've owned many acoustics over the years, MANY, and this Yamaha is one of the best sounding I've ever owned. Went to GC just to check out a few lower end acoustics to pick up for jamming on, and tried almost every one in the room. Picked this one up last just before I was ready to leave, and immediately was blown away by the sound and playability, brought a couple friends to listen and tell me which one they thought sounded the best, and hands down this won over all of them. It has the tone and warmth of a Martin D34, which I have owned a few, and it plays like a dream. The neck is so sliky smooth, easy to fly up and down with no effort. It has amazing sustain and beautiful tone, I fell in love with it and just couldn't put it down. I didn't expect a guitar of this price range to sound as good as it does, got it home and I couldn't put it down. Played for 4 hours straight, and even after trying to put it down to go to bed at 1am I found myself playing a for a few more minutes before I could actually go to sleep. Love this Yamaha more than any guitar I've bought in the last decade. The best thing about it is, It gave me the desire to pick up playing guitar again, after hardly touching any of my other guitars for almost a year it's the one I want to play more than all of them. This is an amazing sounding instrument for the price. The quality of craftsmanship is that of a much more expensive instrument. And to top if off, it sounds great. Overall: All I can say is I am really glad I bought this guitar. I am not going to go into a three page novel reviewing it. I will say this is my second Taylor. My first is a 416ce-R….I purchased a couple of years ago which I love playing, and enjoy thoroughly. That being said I love this GS Mahogany Mini more. For a fraction of the cost you have an awesome guitar here that plays incredibly. Bought a SKB hard case to protect it. The case that came with it is nice, but not for air travel. I just can't stop playing this mini. Great sound, playability, quality and beautiful. Glad I bought this guitar. No regrets!
This guitar is warm and rich sounding. The playability is incredible and feels amazing in the hands. It looks like it is worth more than what it is. Taylor took the care and attention to this line of guitars as it does with its higher end models. I used to have a 614ce and this mini is on par with the way it feels. Obviously not as loud as the 614ce or as pretty, but the care in craftsmanship is the same. Not that the guitar is pretty though. I love this guitar and could not put it down. Sweetwater also did an excellent job on inspecting and packaging this guitar to make sure it sounds perfect when it arrives in my hands.

Great guitar. Unbelievable sound for this price range. You can distinctly hear each string ring out when you strike a chord. Rich, sweet, balanced and full. Great play-ability after a truss rod adjustment. I still need to lower the action at the saddle and nut another mm, but the action is super fast and easy as it is right now. The frets are well crowned and smooth. They aren't sharp, but they do protrude at the ends a bit. Filing them back won't be a big deal. Otherwise, fit and finish was perfect. I've owned a lot of acoustic guitars in various price ranges and the more I play this, the more impressed I am. I wouldn't hesitate to gig anywhere with this. I'm delighted. It's a keeper.c-cat1
I am a semi-pro musician with a guitar collection. I bought this for my daughter, a lefty, to learn on. There aren't many short scale, lefty acoustics on the market. I was skeptical with the low price, but this is an excellent guitar. Well built and looks good. Sounds very good for the price and the fact that it's a plywood top. Nut and saddle are a composite bone material (most cheap guitars come with awful plastic appointments). I will have to do a set up to lower the action a bit, (b/c my daughter is a beginner with no callouses!) but overall very happy with this purchase.mandojam8k06

Ho acquistato questa acustica per studiare alcuni metodi blues; siccome il blues veniva suonato con strumenti parecchio economici ho acquistato questa ephiphone che comunque mi ha sorpreso parecchio; purtroppo la versione mancina c'è solo in colorazione natural (che non mi dispiace) altrimenti l'avrei acquistata nera, la consiglio.
E’ una chitarra entry level, ma ha un suono di categoria superiore. Il legno è laminato ma ha un manico molto bello e delle finiture, soprattutto la parte posteriore, decisamente gradevoli. L’ho acquistata nella sua versione natural, ne esiste una versione completamente nera, e nel mio caso è una left handed. Il rapporto qualità prezzo è molto buono e poi epiphone è un marchio noto ed affidabile. Non ho messo 5 stelle perchè sulla laminatura anteriore si vedono alcuni nodi del legno. Se volete una entry level, da acquistare senza riserve.

I was very excited to see and play a highly reviewed 12 string that costs pennies compared to my 12 string Takamine, Yamaha and Ibanez. Once I got through the box I saw the guitar had the look of some cheap pressed wood. The sound was as weak as a cup of Finnish coffee. The darn thing couldn't stay in tune to save mine or its life. How this guitar gets rated so highly MUST be a result of fake reviewers OR I simply got the ONE Rogue 12 string that seemed to be made by the Fisher-Price Company. This is NOT a musical instrument. It IS an instrument to make noise with. My edition was not worthy of the effort one has to put forward to learn and play guitar. One must have to have an instrument meet the musician at least half-way. With this "musical" instrument, you have to cross the block, pick the guitar up and fight against it to produce close to a tone that sounds musical. Best to buy a used good name 12 string guitar. Or save your pennies and get a Takamine or Yamaha. The latter will be excellent and cost in the $350 range. But a Yamaha will play forever and stay in tune. I recommend my Yamaha over my ash Ibanez. The former just has a fuller tone. If possible save for the Takamine which is on another guitar plane altogether. But don't buy a guitar based on price and/or name. I've discovered many of the friends I play with can't tell if their singing and/or playing is in tune!!. And yet, they own $5,000 MARTIN GUITARS!! Haha. Quite simply a waste of money. Be like me buying a red-green "masterpiece" oil painting, as I'm red-green color blind. But I DO have a good ear and this Rogue of a guitar is worthy of no one's money or effort. M.F. has many more-though more expensive-options that will bring the performer YEARS if not DECADES of playing happiness. Only misery lies in a 12 string Rogue guitar. Avoid.muskoxmike
Purchased this around December hoping to get my kids into it. As usually happens, it ended up being much more of a display use. I would imagine it was picked up about 12 times max total. It sat on display being ignored primarily. Still, by mid-June (in under 6 months) the bridge has warped and started to detach from the main guitar. I noticed this as I walked past it. The glue did not hold. Surprise though, because you can't just pull up a website for Rogue. I called Guitar Center for help to contact the manufacturer as this should be covered under their warranty. Guitar cCenter took my information and said they would forward it to their "contact" for the company and I should receive a response in 3-5 business days. It's been a few weeks now and I'm not impressed. No one called me back, they wouldn't simply give me an 800 number to call to handle it myself, and I still have no solution and no idea who to contact in order to make a claim on the manufacturer warranty. I am more than disappointed with Guitar Center's negligence to truly stand behind a beginner product they seem to offer a great deal of.Amanda V.
I'm so impressed by my RD 90. I think some reviewers are hesitant to give it the praise it deserves because it is an inexpensive guitar. I did a little work to lower the action and now it is perfect. Humidity and temperature changes cause it to need occasional tuning, no different that my other two acoustics. It has a full, rich tone. It plays easily. It makes me feel like I got a real bargain; I don't know how they turn a profit at this price.Charles

Overall: I recently purchased a Breedlove ECO Myrtlewood fretless bass and could not be happier. The fit and finish is supurb for this price point (it is as good as my $4,000 Alembic) and the sound is great! zZounds had it in my greedy fingers in two days in perfect condition. I needed to do a few minor things, just personal preference stuff, upon receiving it but out of the box it was still awesome and for sure worthy of 5 stars.1) The fretboard was a bit rough but 3000 sandpaper and a coat of lemon oil solved that issue.2) I immediately replaced the strings with Fender 9120 tape wound round wounds which really opened up the sound verses the cheap flat wounds that came on it. I have used the tape wounds for years on my Alembic fretless as well as my Fender Precision A/E fretless and love them. 3) I replaced the bridge and nut with bone verses the plastic it came with. 4) The Fishman electronics sound decent. I have multiple amp rigs but using this with either my Phil Jones Session 77 for small gigs or my Peavey 208 as a stage monitor with a DI to the FOH providing rich deep bass and crisp highs. I have not tried it with my big rigs as I use FOH support when needed.5) The on board tuner is a great idea but it is not the easiest to see. I just use a tuner pedal which to me is much easier and also functions as a mute when changing basses.I play this bass along with an old Kay upright in a 4 piece all acoustic group and it sounds fantastic. It is not prone to premature feedback like a lot of acoustic basses I have played and the balance playing with a strap is very good. It is not neck heavy and slippery on the back like the Ovation it replaced.The 34" scale was perfect for me and I would not have gotten it otherwise as all of my basses (except the uprights) are 34". As soon as I unpacked it and looked at the finish I bought a Road Runner hard case, it is the best $150 you can spend. This is an instrument worth protecting! I am extremely pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend it. I have rated it 5 stars all the way excet for the dealer support which I have not had to use so I have no basis for rating. I am sure if needed Breedlove will take care of it.In summation, this is a very high quality instrument at a great price delivered lightning fast in perfect condition.Stephen
I felt compelled to write a review because there is a bad review up here saying the guitar doesnt get much bass. Lol. I'm sorry but it is made with an intentionally small body- that is what happens when you make a guitar with a small body and a shorter scale doesnt help. If you want bass- get a breedlove concerto body guitar or a dreadnought- get one with rosewood back and sides and spruce top. Guitars under a certain price half a G lets say… dont really typically have much bass and the breedlove discovery concertos are some of the best bass frequency producing guitars under that price point. But to really get bass you gotta spend a lot of income on a solid rosewood back and sides and a dreadnought- then youll probably have too much when you record and have to switch to nickel bronze monels and eq it on the recording console. happens all the time with martin dreadnoughts and big jumbos. This is a great sounding super well setup guitar for travel or younger players or just small people. It comes incredibly well setup for the price- a really great job on the nut height and string slots. perfect saddle height. all new guitars will probably need a truss rod adjustment after theyve had strings up to tension for a month or two. But Breedlove are really sending out some nice guitars- though I only buy from my local shop and I've never bought one from a big warehouse like musiciansfriend.Clay
The PROS: this is a very well made guitar with a lot of nice construction (fretwork, woods, clear-coat and binding are all top notch). Ok, so… CONS: opposite of a Taylor, the neck is chunky and not in a good way. Chunky as in Clunky. The sound is very hi mid focused, but really not like a typical Mahogany: no sweetness, no low end at all. So, neck is slow and action out of box was high (needs saddle work). I had been looking for a reasonably priced mid-range acoustic guitar. In most of the reviews I read they said that the Taylor Academy was a great "beginners" guitar. I have to say this is an incredible guitar all around and works well for any level of guitar player. Absolutely loved being able to go into the Sam Ash store and look at the guitar. Knowing ahead of time that I was buying a knock-off with an Ibanez decal my expectations were not that high but I liked the idea of not having to flip another guitar around, besides at this price the risk was minimal. My first impression was shock at how good it sounded, a bit trebly at times but great bass tone and natural reverb effect, and quite loud. It's tough on fingers but that is why you practice. There is a pinch on the B string after the 12th fret but how often do you go there? I am replacing this with a higher quality guitar but I will not retire this one as it is great for "campfire" style playing. I would recommend this for a beginner/novice player. In the year that I have been looking at it I have discovered zero flaws in manufacturing….but that's mine.The Ghost

I'm left-handed but tried to learn right-handed with a Yamaha FG700S — a lot of guitar for the money. After two months I gave up and replaced the Yamaha with a lefty PF15L with which I made more progress in two days than in two months struggling right-handed. But this guitar isn't half the instrument the Yamaha was. It's so poorly made that I had to run sandpaper around the backside of the soundhole to remove little splinters from when the hole was cut; they were clearly visible from almost any angle. The light-colored binding on the edges of the fretboard was covered with dark glue which I scraped off with a razor blade. When I unstrung it to reach inside I found that the tuners were loose and tightened them with a wrench. After all that it just doesn't look as good as the Yamaha. It doesn't play or sound up to the other guitar either: the sound is thin and trebly, not full-bodied, and the intonation at the first two frets is slightly sharp. The action's a bit high so a luthier might be able to improve the intonation by cutting the nut-slots deeper, but then this inexpensive guitar wouldn't be so inexpensive. I'll learn on it but when I know what I want I'll get something really nice. For right-handers there's something really nice at about this price: the Yamaha FG700S. Guitar But Needs to be setup, I would recommend buying not a drop shipper, but a real music store that sets up their instruments before shipping, otherwise you might get sharp frets bowed neck high action and poor intonation. Guitare très belle, manche fin, caisse fine, qualité de fabrication impeccable. Format 7/8 idéal adapté à mon jeu de femme de moins d1m65, exactement, ce que je recherchais. Ca me change de devoir distendre les mains au jeu débutant sur ma première guitare au diapason standard. J'ai enfin l'impression de ne pas jouer sur un violoncelle. Son très correct. L'accordeur intégré est une bonne surprise. Pour un débutante, elle a tous les atouts qui font que je resterai longtemps sans avoir à chercher de nouvelle guitare : pan coupé, électronique, et en plus elle est magnifique.

I bought this guitar to check out a budget friendly offering from Yamaha. I have to say I was not disappointed! Excellent tone and volume, the top really resonates. The guitar was really well setup right out of the box. It needed about 3/4 of a clockwise truss rod adjustment, no prob. Other than that it didn't need any fret dressing whatsoever. That's really impressive for a Chinese guitar. Heck even one of my Mexican Martins needed fret dressing out of the box! Also intonation was spot on and this also is important in your guitar. Very impressed with this guitar, intermediate/advanced feel but priced at a beginner budget. You won't regret picking one up, I assure you!Big Bone Murphy
There is a point of quality when an instrument reaches when it stops being seen as "better or worse" but rather just a different flavor. This Yamaha has reached that point. You can play it alongside a guitar costing 5x more and it stands up well. Yamaha is also one of those rare companies with a long history of top quality across all kinds of products, and guitars are an area Yamaha knows well. This is just a beautiful guitar through and throughout. You can get beautiful uncompromisingly great studio recordings with this guitar. I've owned many acoustics over the years, MANY, and this Yamaha is one of the best sounding I've ever owned. Went to GC just to check out a few lower end acoustics to pick up for jamming on, and tried almost every one in the room. Picked this one up last just before I was ready to leave, and immediately was blown away by the sound and playability, brought a couple friends to listen and tell me which one they thought sounded the best, and hands down this won over all of them. It has the tone and warmth of a Martin D34, which I have owned a few, and it plays like a dream. The neck is so sliky smooth, easy to fly up and down with no effort. It has amazing sustain and beautiful tone, I fell in love with it and just couldn't put it down. I didn't expect a guitar of this price range to sound as good as it does, got it home and I couldn't put it down. Played for 4 hours straight, and even after trying to put it down to go to bed at 1am I found myself playing a for a few more minutes before I could actually go to sleep. Love this Yamaha more than any guitar I've bought in the last decade. The best thing about it is, It gave me the desire to pick up playing guitar again, after hardly touching any of my other guitars for almost a year it's the one I want to play more than all of them. Having relatively recently started learning guitar on an electric stratocaster-style guitar this was a great transition to the acoustic segment. The thinner body makes it much more comfortable to play than say a dreadnought and the neck is comfortable to transition too, yet the guitar doesn't seem to sacrifice as much sound as you'd expect from a thinner guitar. The finish of the guitar is that of a more expensive guitar for example the rosewood finger board. On arrival I actually thought the guitar looked better than the pictures on the website suggest but do note that because of the finish it is prone to showing finger marks which would need cleaning time to time. After suffering a permanent back injury I could no longer play my elictric guitar as it was too heavy or my acoustic electric guitar because it felt like it was twice it's normal size because I could no longer find a comfortable position for myself to play it. I bought a keyboard thinking that I could still play music. Afterv two weeks of playing around with the keyboard I gave up pllaying. Then I saw on the internet one night an advertisement for a 3/4 size Yamaha acoustic electric guitar guitar with a slimline bosy which looked like a nice guitar so I checked out males and females playing it and sounded very nice so I bought one. Man am I'm so glad I did. I got the sunburst like this one on sale. I was excited as l took it out of the box and went straight to my mancave and started playing it. It was perfecty in tune and for a guitar of this size it's got such a beautiful tone playing ACOUSTIC. So I plugged it in and it's as good as it sounded on YouTube. As an 67 yesr old man who started playing guitar when I was 16 years old, this is a beauty. I recommend this guitar to beginners, anyone with small hands and even people who want a good guitar to take with them without taking up much space in your car. Yep, it's a beaty.Deano
The only thing I'm not entirely happy with is the action. It's just a little too high. Other than that, I love it. It's a very nice looking acoustic for the money. It stays in tune extremely well and I was shocked at how full the sound was even with such a thin body. Sounds even better plugged in. The thinner body is super comfortable to handle and hold. It makes the transition from electric to acoustic very easy. The built in tuner is one of my favorite features. It works great and seems to be as accurate as any other tuner I've ever used. Overall, I would recommend this acoustic to anyone on a budget looking for a great sounding and feeling acoustic who doesn't mind the action a little on the higher side. (Side Note – I might be too critical on the action since I'm used to my electrics set up for such low action.)

I’ve been playing a Taylor 310 for 25 years and was looking for something smaller and lighter to transport. Having read a lot of reviews and listened to the videos I thought I would try the GS Mini Koa and see what all the fuzz was about. This guitar sounds amazing! The Koa gives it a depth AND sparkle that you don’t expect from a small guitar. I keep asking myself does it lack depth compared to my dreadnought, technically it does but actually I don’t miss it because the sound is so full. The volume too is quite exceptional, I tend to strum a lot with a pick and don’t mind digging in hard….. this guitar just sings under those circumstances. It get’s louder and louder without noticeably going out of tune. At the other end there is such clarity and sustain that quiet finger picking also sounds great. You can easily hear a single note melody within a chord. Are there any downsides? Well if you have big hands then the reduced neck length may feel too cramped…. For me this is actually more comfortable than a full size neck but you wouldn’t want it any smaller. In summary I’m blown away, just amazing.David
Wow… what a stunner! Opening the case for the first time was quite an experience. This is a seriously beautiful guitar with beautiful craftsmanship. As a beginner with small hands (even for a lady) I have found acoustic guitars in the past to be very uncomfortable to play, the size of the body, the width of the neck, the high action, and after struggling with a Lorenzo Flame Series for the past year I decided enough was enough, electrics aren't almost impossible to play so why should I have to struggle with acoustic? I did some research and everything was pointing me towards the Taylor GS Mini-E series. Holding this guitar in my hands for the first time felt like a revelation. It felt like Taylor had made a guitar specifically for me – wearing a strap the body fits easily under my arm and my fingers just know exactly where they're meant to go. The sound of the guitar is rich and vibrant with a bright top tone – quite a feat in a parlour size guitar. After watching reviews it seems that this is due to the Koa body. The guitar also comes with soft, well-padded case that feels like it'll protect well from bumps and bruises whilst travelling. It has some nice shoulder straps so it feels like you're wearing a large (but light!) backpack. The best thing about this guitar though is that it's such a joy to hold and play that I can't put it down; my playing ability has increased so much in the past few weeks since buying it. As a beginner I absolutely recommend this guitar as an introduction to acoustic guitars. Taylor is my dream acoustic guitar brand. And I always like the versatility and sound of a GS Mini in all versions: Mahogany, Spruce and also, Koa. Mine is Spruce 100% acoustic. It is worth to mention some details about how to extract the best sound of it: 1. The recommended string gauge is .13. Pay attention to all demos and YouTube video reviews. I’m sure this is by design to increase the resonance of the instrument but in some circumstances the guitar slips when playing it.

I had been looking to get back into the guitar after a long hiatus. I didn't want to jump in the deep end with something expensive at the start, but still wanted something decent to play with, after some research decided upon the CC-60S. The guitar does exactly what all the reviews say it does for beginner learning. It feels comfortable, sounds great and isn't as tough when navigating the frets with chords and notes. PMT delivered the CC quickly, was securely packaged and I've found no defects. Would recommend anyone thinking of learning the guitar to purchase this from PMT.John O.
My guitar does not have any obvious defects in it's construction, which is more then I can say for some other guitars around this price point. The lightweight strings it came with make it easy to play for an acoustic. Sounds pretty good to me. Even smells nice, faintly like cut hardwood.SEAN
I like this guitar very much. It sounds beautiful, it looks beautiful and it plays well. The action on the guitar was a bit too high(0.012" on the 1st E string above the 12th fret). I had to adjust a truss rod a little anyway(instructions are provided with a tool included). It lowered the action a little(to 0.010"). Still not enough, so I will have to remove some saddle with sanding paper-a simple task, down to 0.007"-0.008". Eventually I want to replace a saddle, nut and pins with a natural bone and a new set of phosphor bronze strings, which will notably improve the sound…I can barely wait. A cost of these parts is affordable and well worth it for this beautiful guitar. For somebody who is new to these tasks, there are videos on You Tube that show you how to do all that correctly and it's a fun challenge. TWO TIPS: 1) There is a plastic film cover over the sound hole. It will leave some adhesive around the sound hole, when you remove it. Don't get frustrated by it. It gets easily removed by using Naphtha-a safe dissolver used by professionals, that won't damage guitar's finish, if used correctly-sparingly on a piece of cloth. 2) A pickguard is covered with a transparent film. Overall: While this has a decent tone, it's not going to improve with age as the top is a laminated top–not solid spruce.Moreover, since this is a guitar targeting the beginning student, I mark it down because the setup is NOT conducive to the beginner. The action needs to be lowered and the Fender branded DuraTone strings it came from the factory with feel more like a medium gauge than a light gauge. I have a 12-string Yamaha that is easier to play than this.But to give it some props–the price includes a hardshell case–something no other guitar in this price range offers. And the abalone rosette is a nice cosmetic touch.The tuning machines turn smoothly and it does hold a tune very well.And for those who object to Chinese-made guitars, this was made in Indonesia.David
Generally, it is a great guitar. Many of you would expect a low volume for a mahogany top, back and side guitar. However, it's dreadnought style compensates for this and thus you will have a warm mellow toned guitar whilst still having plenty of volume. The guitar looks a lot better in real life than on the photos you may see on the internet. Contrary to the CD60S spruce top (built in Indonesia), this guitar is manufactured in China. The tone difference between CD60S spruce top and this one is small as the spruce top also has mahogany back and sides. This guitar however is one with great overtones. Being a novice, it is a great starting guitar. My only complaint is that the nut and saddle are plastic. The nut, in particular, causes the guitar to be in need of tuning every 2 or 3 days. However, this disadvantage is very manageable and if you prefer, you can spend a tiny bit of money to replace the nut with a bone nut at a guitar shop. If you webchat with a guitar center rep they might be able to give you a discount to cut the cost of this guitar to the price level of the cheapest possible for a major manufacturer's acoustic guitar.Dan the Beginner
My daughter bought this for me a couple years ago because I spend a lot of time on my butt with chronic back pain. Once I adjusted to it's larger size easily can lay down playing it. I'm 56 years old and been playing guitar since I was12. Let me tell you the beautiful tone that comes out of this instrument rivals instruments 5 times the price. I put a set of electric 9's on it so I can bend the strings and it's country and blues heaven. I love this axe! She's a looker too. Real easy on the eyes.Antonio

I haven't played in a few years but the pandemic had me searching for something to get my mind off working crazy hours. There would be few guitars I'd buy sight unseen but I rolled the dice because I'd played Martin's first backpacking incarnation and was familiar with their quality. This little guitar wouldn't disappoint! It is a smaller scale but my fingers fit on the fret board and it's easy to just leave out and pick up when you need it. The sound is really good for the size and it's easy to strum or pick. It was exactly what I was looking for but a little more. I honestly didn't expect to be this happy with how much guitar I got for the price. If you need something to stick by the desk or play by the fire, this is a good optionBob
it arrived yesterday to romania, from music store germany (thanks for handling it with so much care!) and i laid my hands for the first time on this loveable tiny beauty. it looks amazing and feels amazing, in every aspect. excellent playability all thourghout the neck, right out of the box… i wanted a travel buddy — small, sturdy, light and playable… and here she is. there are a lot reviews on the net, i will let here my own subjective opinion, after one day of having it (shipped from music store, germany). – i'm a tall guy (6 feet 3 / 190 cm), but the smallness of martin lx1 is not a hindrance in playing. my wife is a mongolian petite, so perhaps I'm used with handling small beauties 🙂 – i have big hands, but not thick fingers. if i stretch my fingers i can cover this guitar's neck from the net to the 10th fret (from pinky to thumb stretched out) — so you can have a clue; however, i feel comfortable playing all over the neck, even past the 14th fret. so no problem with that… and the transition back and forth to my normal-sized acoustic fender pm1 or to my electric squier affinity tele feels smooth, adjusting in no time. – the guitar is neck heavy, but it doesn't bother me at all; you see, it sits comfortably in my lap. – well, of course, the sound is not of a normal-sized guitar — one has to live with that. it is somehow a boxy sound, but martin has a lot of character, so i'm quite pleased with the sound. the guitar seems to suit better for fingerpicking or strumming with bare fingers; when i use my pick it's too noisy, especially the d string is sooo loud, taking over the other strings. in know, it's a new guitar, freshly out of its box, so perhaps it needs time to shape its sound. if this will not happen (due to hpl back and sides) i will still be pleased, the sound is good enough and i can work my way around. – the machine heads are of excellent quality (like every aspect of this guitar, actually): i tuned the guitar yesterday, after taking it out of the box, then forgot about it… summing up: craftmanship — state of the art sound — boxy, you may like it or not (martin has character, a distinct voice, above all) optic — beautiful as it gets, simply perfect price/performance — well, i would have loved to pay less… in the states, it was 399 USD until recently, now it's more expensive and perhaps the price will rise as well in the current covid situation; so buy know, don't postpone if you consider having one.
I played a friend's dreadnaught sized Martin and fell in love. I already owned two other guitars at the time (Samick and a Fender Redondo Player acoustic) and I didn't want to spend the money in a Martin at this time. This happened to pop up as a stupid deal of the day and so I bought. I wasn't sure about the laminate at first, but it feels and plays like a well made guitar. It sounds bright and it is a tone I enjoy hearing. If someone had given me advice as a new player I would have wished they told me about this guitar. It is concert size so it is a little smaller than a dreadnaught. It is easier for me to practice barring chords and doesn't feel as awkward on my body as my dreadnaught. I love both guitars, but I definitely still use this one as I advance as a player. I noodle on it when I am watching tv, take it when I go way for the weekend, and bring it to play for my friends. I had bought one of these back in 2017 when I made the switch to Acoustic. I don't know why but, I got rid of it so I could make the move tpo the Martin X-Series only because I had always wanted a Martin. To make a long story short, the Martin didn't cut it for me, so last week I made the move back to Taylor and the Big Baby. These newer ones are so beautiful but it's a shame, that Taylor has discontinued them. The Brown headstock along with the Solid Spruce top and Walnut back and sides, have really IMO, improved this model. Once set up properly, it stays in tune and just sounds awesome ! I would say that it is the best Acoustic going today which is under the 500 dollar range. Plus seeing that I'm on a low budget, this was a no-brainer. It's a keeper and I am getting a lot of joy playing it.Jeffrey
I had bought one of these from here way back in 2017 , which I used when I was gigging . I'm now retired ( 63 ) and only play at home now. I had to take a couple of years away from playing, due to pain in my left hand , which built up from 50 years of playing. I came back to playing in August of 2021 and I had bpught a Martin X-Series which at the time, I thought was great . Well it turned out that I ended up having issues with it and got rid of it, so I went back to getting a new, Big Baby Taylor, which always served me well. It's too bad that Taylor discontinued these because, these newer models are IMO, a vast improvement over the older ones. Since I got it on this past Sunday, I can not put this down. It just sounds so amazing and it stays in tune forever. While the included gigbag is a plus, I went and bought a Hardshell case for it. For those who want a Taylor but are on a low budget, this is worth the asking price and then some.Jeff
Since I went back to playing last summer after a 3 year hiatus, due to wrist pain in my left hand, I was using a Martin X-Series OMCX1E which I had nothing but problems with such as not staying in tune, fret buzz, etc. So over a week ago, I made the decision to switch to a Big Baby Taylor. I am limited as far as funds go, so $500.00 was the most that I could afford and I did not want to get a Baby but the Big Baby which is pretty close to a standard dreadnought size , at least as th neck scale is concerned. The body is a tad smaller and lighter which for me at my age ( 63 ) , makes playing a lot easier. Thiis came already set up and strung with Elixirs , which I liked . I can not believe how light in weight this is and it stays in tune , which is a huge plus for me. As far as tone goes, this easily blows away any of the Martin X-Series .I love this guitar and I will be making some wonderful memories with it.jeffreyo46
