I started taking lessons again after a long break. I bought this to take with me on my trips, as an airline pilot I'm on the road constantly. It's perfect to sit in my hotel and play, and the size makes it easy to travel with. The neck is a great size and the action right out of the box was perfect. I can plug in the headphone amp and play no matter what time of the day or night it is. I'm glad I picked this up.
I have always wanted a guitar small enough and rugged enough to take on deployments and military exercise. It is quiet enough to play in open bay barracks while others sleep, or I can tune out the clowns and play in my rack using the stethophone headset. This Pro-series Traveler Guitar is everything I was looking for. As a bonus it has already stood up to the beatings of my 3 year old son who broke my last guitar within 24 hours of purchase. I don't think I will ever need another guitar; but you know how it goes.
Ordered this because I do a lot of traveling for work and play. Hated taking my main guitars on any trip due to theft and damage risk. This beauty is just what the doctor ordered. I originally had Sweetwater put heavier electric strings on it to toughen up the sound. Big mistake. Changed the strings to light acoustic bronze ones from Elixir, and that made it nearly perfect! The stethophone is my favorite method of playing. The true acoustic sound is as huge as my Ovation Celebrity Elite, without the volume to disturb others. When I plug in a VOX headphone amp or other headphone, the pickup cranks out like a Strat on bridge position. When plugged into a serious amp, all doubts about this guitar's capabilities disappear immediately. The sound is everything any of my Strats or SGs can pump out, period. I would gladly play this axe in any situation. The quality is excellent. I have had it for about 4 years now, and I never travel without it. Even on a motorcycle trip, it can be easily carried in backpack mode or strapped to saddlebags. When strapped to the saddlebags, it does not interfere with riding in any way. Would give 10 stars if I could!
2. Alvarez Cc7hcear Cadiz Classical Hybrid Acoustic-Electric Guitar Natural

The alvarez cadiz classical armrest acoustic-electric guitar evolved from an intense study of some of the worlds great spanish luthiers such as ramirez and torres. everything about them is carefully considered and purposefully chosen. the body shape is slightly taller, narrower, and more elegant than past alvarez classicals. the soundbox is more lightly built, with graduated tops, and each brace is custom cut and sanded with 4 varying widths in total. the bracing design gives a slight nod to jose ramirez iii's asymmetric architecture in the fact that the cadiz guitars have a treble bar. this helps to stiffen up the treble side of the top a little more, which helps give these guitars a very round, bell like treble response on the first three strings. alvarez keeps the bass side of the top light by using slightly thinner braces, which contribute to its very open, clear and strong bass response. unlike traditional classical guitars, the hybrid models do have a trussrod to allow for relief to be adjusted on the radiused fingerboards. cadiz models are also made with a spanish heel neck joint. ramirez and other great luthiers also influenced alvarez when it came to choosing their scale length. the cadiz scale length is longer than the standard 650mm (25.6") you will find on many classical guitars. at 662mm (26.06"), this scale length raises the tension a bit, which helps deliver more energy into the soundbox for better response and projection.

When I went shopping for an upgraded acoustic steel string, I had no idea that my favorite guitar I picked up would end up being a classical hybrid. I had never played a nylon string guitar. I kept coming back to this amazing Alvarez in the store, and had a huge smile on my face every time I played it. It is so comfortable, and the sound is so lovely. It is fun for strumming and finger picking. It's got a great tone to sing along with. The arm rest makes it extra comfortable. And, it's so pretty! I am very happy with my purchase. I can't quite believe they could build a guitar of this quality for the price, the build and finish are excellent, what you would expect on a guitar costing far more than this. In usage, the neck has the same width as a standard classical but the depth of a steel string, coupled with the thinner body and light weight it makes this guitar extremely comfortable to play. The sound /tonal quality is also excellent, though perhaps due to the thinner body it is "quite" compared to standard classical, this was easily resolved by fitting carbon strings. The only real criticism is there is no dot at the twelfth fret and with the longer neck it can take a bit of getting used to if you are a novice player Overall this is an exceptional guitar for the price, novice or professional, this guitar has something for everyone.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
Overall: You've read reviews by guys who have been playing 40 years and owned every imaginable alternative to the guitar in the ad. Yep, I'm that guy. And this Alvarez CC7CE blows away every other guitar in its category. The tone is balanced, vibrant and responsive, never tubby. Fit and finish flawless. And right out of the box it is the best factory set up on a nylon string I've seen (3mm at the 12th fret, .090 at the first fret, 10mm at the bridge). I did smooth and polish a couple of fret ends and degloss the neck. But Alvarez has done their research and the slightly longer 660mm scale, thinner top and Ramirez-style bracing sing with D'Addario hard tension strings. Very glad I pulled the trigger on this beauty!Mark

Great for the price. It is a good idea to change the strings right away though. The guitar is playable from the get go however I did some adjustment on the rod to make it perfect. Its design allow for easy reach of the highest notes close to the body and the tuners and the electronics are good enough for a beginner to intermediate player. It comes with an entry level amp that outputs strong and high volume it is small but powerful enough for practicing indoors. All in all a great package for the money. This is a great guitar! I would honestly recommend it to relatively anyone. It has a great feel to it that would be exceptional for young players, but also has a good sound that's great for those more experienced. A bought the Epiphone PR-4E LE in vintage sunburst for a good price as the SDOTD. I have been playing for over 40 years semi professionally and I own a number of higher end acoustics but I wanted to purchase a "beater" that I could break out at a party and not have to worry about one of my intoxicated friends bumping or scratching it. This guitar seemed to fit the bill. The reason I gave it three stars is that although the fit and finish seemed very good, this is supposedly a student level/beginners guitar and the action that it arrived with would be difficult and frustrating for anyone to learn on. I do my own luthier work and I had to spend about two hours to cut the nut, take some relief off of the neck and shave the bridge down to get it to play well. I do not know if my experience with this acoustic is an exception but at this price point I doubt it. With that said it is a nice beginner guitar with a nice build quality, it sounds surprisingly full and rich and if yours arrive like mine I would strongly suggest taking it to your local trusted luthier and spend the extra cash to have it set up properly and have the action lowered. Now mine plays wonderfully and is fun to play. If I didn't have to do all the work to get it playing properly I would have easily given this guitar 4 stars but at this price point I kind of expected thatG-Man

I suppose every guitar maker churns out a turd on occasion when mass producing affordable beginner (read inexpensive) guitars.

It is fantastic, it’s beautiful, sounds amazing (plugged in and acoustic), plays amazingly well, stays in tune, the tuners are smooth and work as you would expect on a much more expensive guitar. The neck is perfect, the action is great (Martin MA540 Authentic Acoustic Light strings 0.054-0.012). I haven’t a single complaint I can’t say whether the quality has gone up or down in the last few years. Mine is an earlier production model about 10 years old. They’re relatively common , You can find a nice used one locally in most cities for under $150. That way you can play and give it a thorough inspection before you buy it. I usually don't leave negative reviews. This guitar is beautiful, it sounds amazing. However, I just can't believe that guitar center would let this be shipped. The neck seems fine but every fret divider is razor sharp. It's so uncomfortable that I have quit playing it. Living in a small town it's very expensive to return stuff, so I guess it will just sit for now. To guitar centers credit, I have shopped there for many years and never been disappointed. But gee guys, why wouldn't you be checking this stuff? If I picked it off your wall I would never buy it unless you fixed it for me. Sorry but this sucksJohn
Tried out two of these at the local store looking for a first guitar for my son. Both sounded pretty good for the price point, but both had problems with the neck and really terrible frets. Terrible like not safe for children or unsuspecting adults – they both had sharp edges sticking out the whole length of the neck. Between that, some minor string buzz, a crazy high 9th fret on one, and iffy intonation on the other, it just didn't seem worth getting either of them. What's the point of getting a low priced guitar if you have to spend $100+ getting it worked over to make it playable? I suspect that the neck binding makes it difficult for the factory to really get the frets properly dressed and still pass cosmetic inspection. It may be I just had the bad luck to find the two worst examples of this model in the same store, but I suggest you move up notch in price range and you will be happier with what you get.triple.ratrider
5. Alvarez Ac65hce Artist 65 Classical Hybrid Acoustic-Electric Guitar – Natural

The artist 65 is very responsive guitar with a warm and open tone. due to its narrower nut, radius fingerboard and 14th fret neck joint, this hybrid feels closer to a steel string than standard classical guitars. the sys550 designed by b-band is a pro level eq and pick up that reproduces the sound of the guitar very closely with great clarity. b-band use a patented under saddle electret film pick up which eliminates synthetic or processed sounds often heard with piezo or other styles of pickup. the result is a very true, acoustic sound. sys550 also has an accurate, backlit chromatic digital tuner. the term solid top of course refers to the soundboard of an electric acoustic guitar being made of solid wood, rather than being laminated. however, just because the top is solid, it does not necessarily mean the sound automatically benefits from this feature. the tone of the instrument only improves significantly when the whole guitar is built correctly to really release the energy a solid soundboard can generate. artist series is built to do exactly this. the solid a grade sitka spruce and cedar tops are hand selected from quarter-sawn wood. this ensures consistent quality and it's no secret better guitar is made from better wood. top is not only look great but it is stiff and strong and finely grained.

Appearance-wise this is a very beautiful guitar and because of this I decided to keep it despite its need for much fret-work and saddle-filing. As received, the truss-rod was completely slack, and this resulted in the neck being twisted counter-clockwise when viewed from the head-stock to the body. This raised all the base string frets so they buzzed all the way down the neck. It took awhile to figure that out; however that only partially fixed the buzzing. At least the neck is now straight. I then used a fret-rocker to check all frets and at least half were higher than the others. These had to be carefully and patiently filed down with a fret-file over several days (you gotta go slow or ruin the whole neck). Next I was able to file down the saddle to get a 2.75 mm action at the 12th fret. A bit more adjustment of the truss-rod and I have a very playable and buzz-free guitar, but only because I know how to do this work. To be fair, every guitar I've owned has needed some of this type of work (including my Taylor 714 CE bought in 2001). The Alvarez, however, was unplayable out of the box. Bottom-line: If you can't do luthier work on frets and action, you should pass on this guitar; if you can you will end up with a guitar better sounding than the comparable Cordoba costing hundreds more. I mentioned the double-holes in the bridge, which is a feature usually only found on high-end guitars. It's very important for low-action, because it maintains excellent break-over at the saddle, especially when you file it down. Break-over is the angle that the strings make after they have passed over the saddle on their way to the holes in the bridge. When you only have single holes in the bridge, the strings tend to form a shallow angle going towards the bridge. This reduces the downward pressure on the saddle and you lose tone. That, plus the looks made me decide to keep the Alvarez, despite the work it needNone
ok, when i first got it, the action was super high. i mean ridiculous…not playable,… i could have sent it back, taken it to a luthier or fixed it myself, which is what i chose to do. the saddle is white and is very tall. i would not recommend fooling with the bottom of the saddle, as that is where it contacts the pickup, i guess. i took a small file and i carved out a groove in the saddle, under each string, till i got my action super nice.. go slow and stop and retune each string often, to see if it is low enough. if not , repeat until the string is close to the frets,,just dont go too far too fast.. you obviously will have to make the groove deeper for the bass strings. make sure the groove is smooth on the sides and make sure to cut with a slight downward motion on the front edge of the saddle… i also had to tighten the truss rod a little..it works good.. i would describe my guitar as a 2 on a scale of 10, out of the box. after about an hour of work, i got it up to 8 OR 9 LEVEL. a luthier will charge at least 100 and would probably disapprove of my method, but mine works.. its a low price guitar so i took a chance….glad i did.. its a very good value now…good sound plugged in or acoustic….plays very nice….not tiring like a regular classical.. i hate the nylon strings that are on it but i dont know how to change them…they are the kind you tie behind the bridge. i am going to get some with a ball end.. i got mine at an open box bargain but for the full price, i would shop for a guitar that costs a little more but doesn't need any work to make it play great.. i find it so amusing that the Musicians Friend spell check does not recognize 'luthier' as a word..joe
Well, the guitar was new and received in original packaging. There was a small 1-inch crack on the back where something hit it. It is between one of the spars and the neck joint, it didn't affect the tone, and since it's a laminate rear section, I didn't bother returning. Outside of that, it sounds great. It came without needing any adjustments. One of the pluses is that it comes with a truss rod and they included an allen key for adjustment. I was almost going to get a Cordoba C5-CE because of that feature. It also has strap buttons on the bottom and the neck so you don't need to install any. The neck isn't as flat and wide as a regular classical guitar which I like. This probably sounds like a silly point but there are only fret markers at the 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th frets. I am not an accomplished professional guitarist so I'm kind of lost without fret markets above the 12th fret. For classical music, it's not a biggie, but for jazz, I'm going to have to practice more when playing in the upper area of the fretboard. The built-in tuner is nice but it doesn't pick up the sound from the high E without plucking that string very hard. I plugged it into a guitar amp and it sounds great. Enough EQ and pickup adjustments to get a sound I was satisfied with. I like the battery compartment design. The 9-volt battery slides in and out easily. I didn't test the XLR output so I can't write anything about that. Finish all over is nice.Cheesie

Bought without trying it out because I had seen a photo and decided I would like to try it but was out of stock for many months. Then it became available for $79 off and I jumped. – It came well packaged and in perfect condition. 'Played as well as it looked and it looks even better than the photos show it. The finish is as deep and glossy as any I have seen, and even the fretboard is bound. It seemed a tad bass shy at first but over the last few weeks has bloomed and now sounds beautifully balanced with tight well defined tones throughout the octaves and plenty of shimmer up high. 'Have not plugged in yet but it projects well without amplification and should be just fine for a small stage like a church or coffee house. I highly recommend this guitar to any enthusiast.Steven
I went to the GC in Palm Desert CA with a five-hundred dollar budget for a new acoustic/electric. There were three guitars that I had to play, but I was open to checking out others. I didn't see the Hummingbird in the room so I asked the clerk to check for me … he found one. Before he got back with the Epiphone, I had a chance to play the Guild and a Fender that were on my list, as well as a few that were not. The Fender was winning … until the clerk showed up with the Epiphone. The craftsmanship/fit and finish, the feel of the neck/action, the sound projection/tone … Everything about the guitar was perfect for me! I could not be happier!John
For the price it is exceptional value. Beautiful looking musical instrument. For me there are just two reservations. 1. There is no built tuner. 2. The pick up doesn’t work with my Xvive U2 wireless system. I have another electro acoustic, also with Fishman electronics, which does work with the Xvive U2 wireless system so I was sort of expecting this would to. Apart from that it is jewel of a guitar and punches well above its price tag.

Look, just wanted to reply to some reviews that say this guitar sounds well…..thin. Duh, yes its not a jumbo acoustic or even a regular body acoustic. Its a thinline acoustic so it sounds just like what it is. Ive played several thinline guitars and they all sound…well…thin. That doesnt mean its cheaply made or a bad sounding guitar. It has its own sound. If you want a deep bass, then buy a jumbo or regular acoustic. I like the easy neck movement. The chords sound fine and this guitar doesnt require anymore tuning than any other in this price range. I tried ten guitars at guitar center including more expensive brands like fender, mitchell, yamaha and others and this was the only one under 400 dollars that stayed in tune from an E chord to a C chord. I bought it because Ive owned Ibanez before and never regretted it. To each his own but keep in mind a thinline guitar is not going to have a deep rich sound, but, I record my bass along with it so it sounds fine. After seeing some videos about this guitar and reading many reviews, I realised that it was a very good quality for the price!! This guitar is absolutely amazing, smooth, beautiful and the sound is truly beautiful, even better than I expected! I'm very satisfied! I live in Madeira Island and the product came relatively fast, for what I was very happy too!
I had been playing a very old and very nice acoustic at church for night service, and didn't want to subject it to the rigors of live playing on a regular basis. After some research, it came down to purchasing a Talman or a Stratacoustic. I went with the Talman due to the price, and Ibanez's reputation. When the guitar arrived, I was a little apprehensive as the neck felt awesome, but the setup was awful. The strings were heavy gauge, and were set way too high. After some work shaving down the bridge, changing to light strings, and adjusting the truss rod, this baby plays great! I love that the electronics are really easy to use, and it was made to plug in. The sound when you are practicing unplugged isn't as full or rich as you get with a full sized acoustic, but this guitar wasn't made for that – it was made to be plugged in. I was able to eliminate having to use pedals to get the proper volume and EQ, which makes the live rig way easier to set up and tear down. I play it through a Line 6 spider II 75 watt head running through a Marshall 4×12 cabinet. The spider's clean channel is great for acoustic as it does not color the tone, and the Marshall is plenty loud for a church sanctuary. Overall, I am quite happy with the Talman, even though I had to put in some extra work to get it the way I like my guitars. The Maton 808 fits perfectly. Usually the 4" will fit most guitars but, not this one. I had noticed a few questions concerning this so I thought I would post this. A 4" cover can be ground down to size but, it's a chore that you may not want to tackle. The size here is actually pretty close to 3 3/4". The Maton is 95mm which translates very close to 3.75". A few thousands of inch at best. Pretty snug fit but, you don't want it slop around at all. Just FYI.Terry
I purchased this guitar twice because the first one had a bend to the neck, so the strings would buzz and not play properly on higher frets. I returned it and then ordered another one assuming the first was a fluke. The second one came in and was fine, but within a month the same issue occured. Still have it and just play the lower frets, but still was a waste of money. Looks amazing and sounds great when it works properly.Matthew
I played guitar for 15 years back in the day and owned 6 acoustic guitars in my lifetime. From mid-priced Takamines to cheap Washburns. I went to Guitar Center for a "learn how to play again cheap guitar" and tried all the cutaways in the $150-400 range. Fender, Yamaha, Alvarez, Ibanez and even above my price range. A salesman said one sentence. Try the Mitchell Guitars, they are the best bang for the buck. I went home that night and did my research. I looked at wood quality, body/bracing styles, neck sizes/wood types, hardware. Made a list and went back with 7 guitars in stock I wanted to feel/hear. Yes, Mitchell guitars absolutely had the best materials for the money. But how were their playability and actual sound? I tried a few models and they were either soft/flat sounding or had a sloppy fretboard. Other brands in the same price range had much cheaper materials. It came down to the Alvarez Regent (wish they had the Artist series to try) and this Mitchell guitar. I was able to buy the MX430QAB on sale but this guitar plays above its actual price. I tried a few $600 dollar guitars and the quality is much closer to those guitars. Bass tones are deep/rich/punchy (not dreadnought deep but enough). The mid-tones really shine and the highs pop without being too bright or overwhelming. A wide-ranging rich-toned balanced Orchestra guitar. The neck is so playable. I have read that about other guitars. The Talman series, or Festival series. Maybe they just needed to be setup. This guitar was set up perfectly. Going up and down the fretboard doing scales or chords was a total breeze even for someone who hasn't picked up a guitar in 5 years. It holds the tuning very well and I am sure this guitar will settle in and have an even richer tone over time. Guitars all have different personalities, so trying them out is recommended. But this is a good bet for the 300-400 price range.Myles

I purchased this guitar for a different sound. I have had a dozen guitars before and currently have a Cort Gold O6 and Fender Vintera Modified 50s Tele which I love for different reasons. After trying a Taylor Academy 12e-N, which had a great sound but I didn't life the feel of the shorter 12 fret neck, I picked up my first one of these. Build and sound was great, but I had a lifted fret (#12) which buzzed. I tried to press it back in myself, but no luck so I'm guessing something swelled in the neck after the frets were leveled, crowned, and polished. I sent it back for an exchange.Jay

Sound: In regards to “sound” “presence” this pretty girl has enough for the price; in fact, it rings most crisp at the high end with nice low end presence for it’s size. Plugged in, it is actually expectable for strumming and picking! It’s size is just awesome for living room small studio or patio sessions (actually, I have laid down some sweet tracks using this well rounded acoustic) The electronics are acceptable enough- though I am going to upgrade mine because I do use it constantly. The Soft case is very nice and durable. My ONLY knock, the string holes/bridge assembly, cedar non-pin; the eyes of the strings are beginning to stress the inlets “widening them” due to the steel recessing the wood; the eyelets literally seated against it. This is a miner issue and a commonly used one. It makes stringing the the Breedlove most easy and quick, no pins popping with sting winding- This is definitely a most awesome beginners acoustic-it is definitely far more guitar for the money; however. If it’s a impulse thing-all of a sudden wanting to learn and play guitar- or young beginners- wrong guitar! There are far better values in the 150.00 to 200.00 dollar range, decent and not as much of an investment if the “fire” “urge” burns out becoming closet/attic clutter or family room/bedroom decor! I made this mistake years ago before I got serious and completely committed to the passion playing easily two hours or more a day- if the passion sets in getting “GAS” (Gear Acquisition Syndrome), this IS a perfect acoustic to move up to. If you want larger gear, the Fender California Series is very tight, most sweet for $429.00, I have a Redondo that shreds! Entirely different guitar though and do not recommend for beginners because of its fret length, width and strength required to ring out the chords- especially bar chords. I moved to Pa and all my wood acoustics went south on me. I kicked buying one of these around for a couple years. Got this thing delivered and I love it. They are alot better looking than the pictures. I was kinda thinking a crotch rocket fender but it has a nice gloss finish on it. Right out of the box it tuned up good on the onboard tuner, has great action and is easy on the fingers. It has a really good sound to it.Its not as good as my Collins but I really like it. Plugged it in and you can get some really good tones out of the electronics. I know I will be making a lot of tracks in my studio with this one and I won't have to worry about its humidifier. It comes with a very road worthy case. Excellent guitar ! I hope this helps anybody who has been kicking this around.FRONI
This really is a very nice guitar. Great sound, impervious to changes in temperature and humidity, very lightweight, and looks gorgeous. It sounds especially nice plugged in when a decent finger-style guitarist is playing it. I knocked a star off because the guitar is poorly balanced. The body is so lightweight that when you are using a strap with the pre-installed strap buttons the head stock wants to plunge to the floor and the body of the guitar wants to pivot forward. You have to actively think about keeping the guitar in position with your right arm to prevent it from doing so. My wood acoustic stays in playing position with no effort on my part. I would rather be focusing on my chord changes and strumming/picking than on trying to keep the guitar in position. If you always play sitting down, give it 5 stars. I use this guitar for daily practice and gigs. The neck is very comfortable. The body is very cozy and easy to hold. I love not worrying about car heat and humidity. The sound is very well balanced. If you don't like the sound try different picks until you dial in your sound. It is very sensitive to pick materials, shape and size. If you use harmonics you won't find a better guitar for harmonic sustain. Notes ring very evenly and clear. The only trouble I find is that open string ring louder than fretted strings so that can cause some problems with certain playing styles. The case is dead weight. Nothing good about it except that it will keep your guitar from getting damaged getting from A to B. Problem is that it's too heavy. Also looks like less than stellar craftsmanship. Not impressed with the case. It doesn't make sense to have such a cool guitar and then pair it up with such an ugly heavy case.Poppa Top

I have been playing for 36 years and own many nice high end guitars. I live in Switzerland and travel back to California usually twice a year to see friends and family. It's getting more strict traveling with a guitar and the airlines are starting to make you check in guitars. No longer allowed to carry on my instrument and not trusting airlines with my irreplaceable babies I decided to buy a cheap guitar for when I'm in America and bought one at guitar center. I already have a couple of amplifiers and microphones here so I can tell u this thing sounds like a much more expensive guitar either plugged in or acoustically. Maybe I got lucky but the model I bought has great action and not a single fret buzzes. This is a really nice sounding guitar and easy to play. The neck is on the fat side but the action is really low so it's great for my small hands. It's also beautiful. My only problem is I'm liking it so much that I'm tempted to take it back to Switzerland as my camping guitar now. Best guitar I played for the price tag by far. We will see how it holds up over time but I easily recommend it to others.Ha ha
I am a beginner so I purchased a guitar that looks awesome, sounded good to my untrained ear and was inexpensive. But I have some issues with it. First, every peg as broken and had to be punched out and replaced which was multiple trips back to the store which isn't close for me. It is never in tune. I tune it and play a few chords and then retune it. The string adjusters (not sure if that their technical term) are not snug and move around a bit, I notice this real bad when replacing strings. I get a lot of buzzing, my instructor does when he plays it. All that and my biggest problem is the graphic on mine is nothing close to the graphic see in pictures. My graphic is a grainy, obvious graphic and doesn't have any of the cool swirls as seen in the pictures. I like the feel and the glossy texture. Now that I have taken a few lessons I really would like to return this guitar.Big B
I bought this guitar as a novice, and not having a well developed ear, I thought it was pretty good. As my ear developed over the years, I've come to the conclusion that this guitar is mediocre. The way the bass is projected is very weak, and the highs are way too dominant. Along with that, it just doesn't have the depth many high quality guitars, and even some beginner guitars, such as the Yamaha F335 have. I'd recommend buying this guitar for three criteria: for beginners, for looks, and for the acoustic-electric feature. The intonation does get a little off too, especially when getting to the higher frets. The neck however earned this guitar a star though, because it fits me well, and that's my preference. I've had other people say opposite about the neck of this guitar, so the neck is really up to you to decide if you like it or not. All in all, I've had many hours of fun with this guitar, but don't expect to have a life changing guitar in your hands.The Archive Master

I have come to like this guitar quite a bit, but I had to spend several hours carefully sanding down the bridge saddle, filing the grooves in the nut, and adjusting the truss rod to make it even marginally comfortable. If you are not confident doing this, bring it to a local luthier. The neck width is still fairly wide (40mm E-to-E string spacing vs 45mm on my standard classical), and my hands are fairly small for a guitar player, so I am not able to wrap my thumb around easily to the low E string as I am used to doing on an electric or steel string acoustic. The intonation is quite good, which makes the access to the higher frets worthwhile, at least after you've dealt with the high action. I had previously tried a similarly priced Cort, and its intonation was terrible (it also had lousy action). I play this through a quite ordinary 50 watt solid state guitar amp, and it sound good on the clean channel.A T Hun

I bought this guitar to check out a budget friendly offering from Yamaha. I have to say I was not disappointed! Excellent tone and volume, the top really resonates. The guitar was really well setup right out of the box. It needed about 3/4 of a clockwise truss rod adjustment, no prob. Other than that it didn't need any fret dressing whatsoever. That's really impressive for a Chinese guitar. Heck even one of my Mexican Martins needed fret dressing out of the box! Also intonation was spot on and this also is important in your guitar. There is a point of quality when an instrument reaches when it stops being seen as "better or worse" but rather just a different flavor. This Yamaha has reached that point. You can play it alongside a guitar costing 5x more and it stands up well. Yamaha is also one of those rare companies with a long history of top quality across all kinds of products, and guitars are an area Yamaha knows well. This is just a beautiful guitar through and throughout. You can get beautiful uncompromisingly great studio recordings with this guitar. I've owned many acoustics over the years, MANY, and this Yamaha is one of the best sounding I've ever owned. Went to GC just to check out a few lower end acoustics to pick up for jamming on, and tried almost every one in the room. Picked this one up last just before I was ready to leave, and immediately was blown away by the sound and playability, brought a couple friends to listen and tell me which one they thought sounded the best, and hands down this won over all of them. It has the tone and warmth of a Martin D34, which I have owned a few, and it plays like a dream. The neck is so sliky smooth, easy to fly up and down with no effort. It has amazing sustain and beautiful tone, I fell in love with it and just couldn't put it down. I didn't expect a guitar of this price range to sound as good as it does, got it home and I couldn't put it down. Played for 4 hours straight, and even after trying to put it down to go to bed at 1am I found myself playing a for a few more minutes before I could actually go to sleep. Love this Yamaha more than any guitar I've bought in the last decade. The best thing about it is, It gave me the desire to pick up playing guitar again, after hardly touching any of my other guitars for almost a year it's the one I want to play more than all of them. Great sounding and playing guitar, I replaced the synthetic saddle for bone, original was to tapered on the high E new saddle took care of that. Buy the epiphone or roadrunner jumbo case, nothing else fits, make sure if the guitar comes straight from the factory you use a humidifier in your case for at least 6 months. Especially in colorado. Then if you leave it out without a humidifier that you dont have forcrd Heat or air conditioning vents close to the guitar. This guitar has great projection.Kenny
After purchasing this guitar from American Musical Supply, I was really nervous awaiting its arrival because this was actually my first time purchasing an instrument online. I’m used to going inside music shops and trying out different gear and playing guitars before I buy them so I know that what I’m taking home with me already feels comfortable and right in my hands. This guitar in particular, however, is not a style that is normally kept stocked in the stores for customers to test drive before they purchase. Similar models are available in stores near me but I think anyone who has ever wanted this particular model from Epiphone knows that they have heard and felt the beautiful sound that projects from this big guitar and I am here to tell you that my “leap of faith” online purchase was nothing more than a huge win in my book! This guitar looks, sounds and plays just as I expected it would with much more to offer once it’s actually in your hands! I’m personally a country/blues guy so this guitar definitely fits right up that alley in my opinion. It feels so solid in your hands and the tone is just plain awesome! The Jumbo body allows the sounds inside the guitar to reverberate through your body as it’s pressed against you before making its way through the sound hole where it flourishes into that awesome deep, thick sound. From the factory the guitar is set up beautifully and very playable right out of the box. Quality parts, quality wood and quality electronics as expected from Epiphone and very well executed in this model. Definitely worth every penny for the undecided guitarist but hey, don’t take just my word for it! I once owned a Gibson J15, that I bought from Guitar Center, and I loved it, but I always wanted a J200, I just could never afford one. Well, I ended up having to sell my J15 to pay rent one month, and I ended up having some extra money from it, and thought why not give the Epi a try? It's closer to the Guitar I always wanted anyways. I was blown away. It has all the high end stylings of a Gibson J200, maybe even more if you consider the built in tuner and cutaway features for about 3000$ less. Well, unfortunately I only owned it for about a week before my car broke down and I had to return my Epi to pay for the repairs. I've regretted it ever since. I would have rather donated blood 50 times than have returned that guitar. (Fortunately I just got my tax return and repurchased it, and it seems like it sounds even better than before). As I was saying, it stacks up against s Gibson guitar nicely, the shadow preamp isn't as nice as any LR Baggs system but it will certainly give you lots of usable sounds. I think this is the best guitar in the 500$ price range and I'm disappointed in Guitar Center for not carrying it in store. I'm a firm believer in the fact that having a guitar you like, you like the looks of, you like the feel of, will make you a better guitarist, and that's what this beautiful, fat boy jumbo acoustic has done for me. I actually like mine so much I decided to put some money into it for upgrades, and I haven't been disappointed. I stuck some Grover Keystone tuners on it in gold of course ( had them on my Epi Les Paul before and thought would look cool so I just swapped them), some Martin ebony bridge pins, and some D'Addario EXPs and this thing sounds unreal now. I have a number of acoustic type guitars – both steel and nylon strung. When playing these I rarely strum – it's a finger style combination of rock, flamenco, folk, blues and jazz ( a real mixture). The first thing I did was to change the strings (D'Addario Silk & Steel). As a result this little Fender beauty has turned into an excellent parlour guitar: it's responsive, lovely to play and remarkably loud for its size. Build quality is good and the sound projects well. If you're a chord strummer, I wouldn't suggest that the Sonoran is for you – but it responds superbly to finger style playing. It's subtle and responsive. For the money, it's very, very good. And of course, it's very, very easy to lug around. Love it!Gillian B.
Pretty nice sounding instrument! Way less money than most solid wood, small bodied shorter scale guitars, & stacks up decently against “higher end” offerings. As a traditionalist, the onboard electronics were an annoying detraction, but in practice the pickup system sounds far more natural than I was expecting. And as a couch/practice guitar, having a tuner on the instrument is handy, I’ll grudgingly admit. If I were the type to plug in an acoustic on stage, I’d get good use out of these features. There are a few other general things that caught my attention, listed in no particular order. The dynamic range is an interesting departure from typical full scale acoustics. It’s quieter when finger picked softly, but as loud or louder when dug into with a pick. Definitely doesn’t sound small when played with authority, & generally has great resonance. I’ve yet to try lighter strings, but with 12 gauge phosphor bronze, it doesn’t feel too slinky or incredibly different than a longer scale length acoustic. I do find it a tad more comfortable, but not a night & day difference. The only lesser aspect is mostly down to the stock setup. Action was a little on the high side, & the G# fret under the low E string was a little high, so G chords buzzed on that string. This doesn’t detract from my over all impression, as I’m imagining most folks buying a decent instrument will end up setting it up & leveling fretwork to taste. All in all, mine’s a very nice acoustic guitar by any measure, & its sound punches way above its weight class in terms of cost. I dig it.WJJ
This Fender guitar is awesome. Out of the box it is almost perfectly set up. The intonation is off just by a little bit and only with 2 or 3 strings. The sound seems a little washed while playing chords, but single notes are loud and clear. All the frets have edge treatment, nice and smooth. The synthetic bone used for the nut and bridge are way better than plastic, allowing for a long sustain. The guitar could use better tuning keys, but the guitar stays in tune good enough. Over all my guitar was built well, and I'm glad it sounds good, too. I would recommend this guitar for all beginner guitar players because of the sound quality, and anyone else who don't have the money for their dream guitar.Tim

I bought my fiancé and I a new Martin. I got her a Martin Dx2e and I got this one. I received mine first since I ordered from here which was wonderful. I got hers off of reverb because ams didn’t have sunburst which she wanted. I was not picky about color but I went with this one. I was super excited to say the least because this was my first Martin Guitar. I also purchased another guitar last year from Ams and I loved it. I digress and move forward to getting it. So I opened it up and I was super pleased with how perfect it looked. Then I started playing it. It was great until I went to play a D chord or anything that involved the high E string. It is cut way too low on the nut and the slightest pressure makes the string fall off the fret board. I thought maybe it was just me, however my father in law to be, which is a professional had the same issue. Also my fiancé had the same issue. Needless to say, I tried to make it work. I sent Ams an email. No response. I guess I’m stuck with this 1k dollars in a guitar that is going to need to be repaired at a shop when it’s brand new. So overall, if you want to take the risk, go for it. My fiancé got the Dx2e and it’s stellar. I would rather have one like hers than this one tuner or not. Hers sounds much better too. The looks and everything else is fine. Just the bottom string is way way too low.Brittany

The neck has an S shape to it . The relief is acceptable up to the 7th fret , after that it rapidly accelerates to an unusable 1/4 inch at the 12th fret . No matter how much you attempt to adjust it, it simply is unplayable. I am ashamed to even take it out of the bag . Martin quality control seriously blew it big time on this guitar. I own dozens of guitars and waited until my retirement to buy that Martin guitar of my dreams. This is a nightmare, not a dream. Stay away from this piece of crap . No matter what adjustment you do to the truss rod , it won’t help. Bass to treble side is extremely different. 1/4 inch on the bass side at the 12th but the treble side is marginally better. However, the S shape of the fretboard makes the guitar unplayable unless you like staying in the cowboy chord area . My Ovation, Breedlove,Fender , and Gibson acoustic guitars are brilliant examples of guitar playability. This Martin was to be my final guitar since I have only played them and never owned one . I can’t even play this piece of garbage. Martin has no dealer or authorized repair shop within 100 miles of me so I am stuck with a $900 piece of firewood. Never ever will I buy anything with that name again. That’s all they are, a name. How this got by quality control blows my mind. I have $200 acoustic guitars that are much better than this. Overall: So after playing guitar for more than 30yrs, this is my first Martin. Very weird considering my father sang and played with a Martin F-65 (rare semi-hollow body, only about 600 made) most of his life. I've lived all my life usually not more than 2 hours from the factory, and for most of that time less than an hour. I've taken the factory tour which was awesome. I've met many musicians that play Martins, endorse them, etc. I've been playing the last year or so on a Fender acoustic(not including my electrics that I own or play), which is a decent enough instrument, albeit a cheap sub 300$ guitar, when I purchased it over a year ago. I have owned a few other acoustics, a couple Takamines, Fenders, Ibanez, Ovations etc over the years. I won't say I have any considerable experience with 1k and up acoustic guitars, but I like to believe I have at least a decent ear. The sound is really the thing here, as this is not an ornate guitar with fancy inlays and stuff like that. Still, one of the main reasons I chose this model is because it's solid wood. I have no experience with Martins HPLs, but I also know Martin wouldn't put their name on anything if it isn't well made. I prefer solid wood, so that's a great reason to chose this model for this price point, and the reason I did. That being said, this is what a great guitar should sound like. I can easily hear the way every string sounds as clear and loud as the others. I'm pretty sure this has to do with bracing and the way they build their tops. it just projects the way a guitar should, not muddy on low strings and too bright on the highs. It sounds superb, plain and simple. Clear, bright, articulate. Martin has been perfecting guitar building for almost 2 centuries now, and while this is not their top of the line guitar, it gets all the benefit of their experience in the way they're designed and built. One thing I didn't realize about Martins until after getting this, and looking at their specs on most of their guitars is they have a wider neck (1.75" width) than I'm used to. My Fender neck was more like an electric neck, both width and thickness wise. I will easily get used to this though, and may enjoy it even more in time, as I have big hands. I also love the hidden controls for the volume and tone and tuner. I love that they didn't cut a huge hole in the body of the guitar for them, very cool. I haven't plugged it in yet, but I have no doubt it'll sound good. Fit and finish are fantastic, as is the soft case they include. I would rather it have had a gloss finish, except the neck, but that's just a personal thing. It's a beautiful, well made instrument, that you should definitely put on your short list of under 1k guitars.I would definitely recommend this guitar.

This is an incredible axe! Fender wasn't lying when they said it's their most versatile guitar yet. You'll pull sounds out of this thing that you only used to dream about. From the 1st time I saw this guitar it peaked my interest. I play an electric guitar and found it difficult to play an acoustic guitar. This guitar IS A CHAMP! Although it is an acostic-electric guitar, I love that it is made like the traditional electric Telecaster guitar. The neck is slimmer just like my electric Telecaster and the body of the guitar is also slim and light weight. This guitar is awesome with all the voicing and new cool functions that makes it comparable to an electric guitar. I can finally play on this Acoustasonic Telecaster the songs that I struggled to play on my standard acoustic guitar. It's an awesome transitional instrument. I got this guitar because I wanted an acoustic guitar and I'm used to the feel of electric guitars. I find that the ability to dial-in different tone to be a vey nice feature and I like to be able to amplify my sound. The different tones is are a bonus. What I really, really like after the sounds, is the weight and balance overall and the feel of the neck. It is much nicer than a bulky acoustic which usually requires a sitting position. The one drawback that I've run into is that the amplification hardware is battery driven (rechargeable) via a USB cable and it appears that it discharges even when not being played. Its rated at 20 hours but even if I don't play it, it needs a recharge in a day or two. I hesitate to leave it on the charger every time I put it down.JKS

As always Sweetwater comes thru! I received it Fedex yesterday evening. Tuned it up ,played about 30 minutes, got a tweed case out and packed it up and went and played a gig from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. good transition for electric guitar players. the entire neck on mine is accessible , I will change the strings to my brand of strings and order a supply of CR2032 batteries for the tuner. It does not use a 9volt battery. The reduced body size is the same size as my Fender T Bucket and my Fender California Senoran , not a thin body guitar at all. But a comfortable size to play. Played 3 hours no fatigue . I used a Roland Chorus and a BOSS Katana-100 amps. On the clean and acoustic channels with no feedback.I had a guy want to buy mine but I told him how to order one from Sweetwater. Order this guitar! AS ALWAYS , GOOD SINGING GOOD PLAYING!
This guitar is actually solid. After getting it setup with a bone saddle and bone nut, it sings. The frets were perfect polished and the intonation was spot on. The neck did require less relief, but who cares. That's a simple job. Amazing playability, and once you swap that plastic crap out for bone, I don't know you'd be able to find an acoustic this cheap that plays like this one does.Don
Being a guitarist since 12 I've always had a hard time playing acoustic. Since I've always played electric guitar. Low and behold the Alt30 came into my life! And this guitar has changed everything! Outstanding value in this Ibanez guitar. First off, it's beautiful to look at it. Blue or the black, you can't go wrong. They are both attractive (I bought the black one). Neck is smooth as butter. Sounds great plugged into my little Blackstar amp and just as good unplugged. The gear seems like something you'd find on a higher priced guitar. The tuners and EQ are top notch. Really couldn't be happier with the guitar, the price and the service from AMS. They promised 2 day shipping and they delivered.Eric
Sound: I changed the settings as I always do when purchasing a guitar, and if course had to retune until the string memory was suffice. I haven't had to retune it since (after 3 weeks … Of course some minor tuning was needed). The eq helped get more low end that I desired. Features: I like the truss rod feature, I changed the tuners to some more appealing Gibson deluxe tuners. The frets needed a little filing but minor tweaks and adjustments are almost always necessary to obtain desired playability. Most (inexperienced) People want straight out of the box perfection, I suggest bringing any new guitar to someone that knows what they're doing and tell them what you want. My brother worked for Gibson custom shop as a guitar tech and let me know that most companies rely on quantity and not so much perfecting every guitar as everyone's idea of perfect is different. This is a parlor size guitar. In other words, it is smaller than a concert grand. This makes it a great beginning guitar for a teen, or a for a travel size practice guitar in general for anyone. This particular guitar was never set up, thus the nut is very high, and thus, so is the action. Any guitar straight out of the box needs to be taken to a luthier and properly set up. The reason the nut (and sometimes the bridge) are so high is because it is easier to cut them down than build them up or replace them. So, all guitar companies tend to do this as a matter of course. Some people want the higher action; like, slide players. But if you are strictly finger style, then best to have the nut, and if needed, the bridge taken down to lower the action and make it easier on the fingers. Another trick to help the fingers is to lower the tuning by 1/2 to 1 whole step. This will slacken the strings and they won't bite as much. This particular model of Luna guitar is one from their beautiful "Flora" collection. If nothing else, it looks great on the wall!vannerhorses
