Musician's Gear guitar stand compared to Gear One GS5 stand. I recently purchased a pair of Musician's Gear stands that are made in a similar design to the Gear One GS5 stand. The Musician's Gear stands were on sale 2 for 10 bucks and when I bought the Gear One stand on sale, I believe for a similar but maybe slightly higher price. Can't remember exactly since it was a few months ago. The Gear One is made of larger, thicker, heavier metal and when you pick up both stands, the Gear One is substantially heavier and stronger. Less flex when handled. The Musicians Gear stands are fine for most guitars and the price is great, but if I were going to use one of these for my Peavy T-40 bass which is very heavy, it would be the Gear One. One good point for the Musician's Gear stands is the rubber strap that goes across the neck yoke. The Gear One did not have one. I do not use it often but at least it is there if I should need it. The tripod base on the Musician's Gear is slightly larger, maybe 1/2" longer legs and the neck pole is perhaps 2-3 inches longer. I personally like the Gear One better due to it's more substantial build quality. It is worth the small price difference. However I do not feel I got ripped off by purchasing the Musician's Gear stands. They do what they are supposed to do for a great price.Bobby
These stands are OK for the money, but the picture on the website for these stands did NOT represent what I received when I purchased them online. The GC advertised picture show the cradle attachment as connected/inserted in to a front-mounted connector piece. What I received did not have this feature, but instead a couple of holes in the stand to insert the cradle pin into. A front-mounted connector serves 1, to provide a better angle of stability and clearance, 2. Allows the sliding portion of the stand to adjust all the way to the ground for smaller stringed instruments, and 3. It's simply easier to insert the cradle pin into the front-mounted connector rather than syncing the cradle pin through two holes in the stand. Yes, they smelled bad, kind of toxic. But they didn't break for the brief time I had my guitars in them and I did not notice any damage to the guitar finishes. Needless to say, I returned these and purchased some Ultra 2445 black stands from somewhere else, as these have been reliable for many years. Had the picture on the Guitar Center website accurately represented the product, I never would have purchased these in the first place.Dave
First off: Musicians Friend was awesome about this. The first two-pack of stands had a distinct and nauseating smell of petroleum. (Yeah, I know, there's undoubtedly a large petroleum composition of the foam, but still…..!) Musician's Friend immediately replaced them, even going so far as to send me two individual stands, probably hoping that it would have come from a different job lot and might not smell so bad. This worked, sorta; the replacements were not nearly as stinky (though I can still smell the oily "frangrance"), and I chose to keep them. However, the center of gravity in these stands is higher than in the Open Stage stands I've bought previously, so much so, that my new Bedell acoustic has already tipped over once after being accidentally nudged gently. Fortunately it didn't fall all the way over, but it did bang into my son's guitar. So I won't buy these again, and the two I have will be kept back near the wall, out of the way. I had to make major modifications to make this fit me. I'm 5' 8" 140 lbs. Owned mine for 2 years, but had to cut the legs 2 1/2" shorter, move the seat rest down and backwards a few inches, widen the footrest and remove the guitar rest. It's now fine for a 3 hour gig, but was HORRIBLE before!!! I have been performing an acoustic set for sometime now and I have to lug a stand, stool, the guitar and I take a tablet for a cheat sheet and requests. This cuts most of my lugging in half and the seat is comfortable. I love the fact I can just bring 3 things to my gigs and have the peace of mind that I don't loose track of a stand or the stool. I mean seriously I would never forget my guitar but a guitar stand is easily misplaced or someone confiscates your stool and then the bar now has an extra stool and you left without your stool. These things may sound silly but when being a performing musician and not having people working for you keeping track of your stuff it's easy to have stuff go missing. Must have been designed for ppl at least 7 feet tall. Most of you will be cutting 2 or 3 inches off the legs. Most ppls feet do won't reach the floor and the foot rest are not appropriate height. That alone makes it very uncomfortable and renders it almost non usable. The back rest may be risky as it did snap off for at least one person and I found it to feel very unlikely of holding any of my weight. Also the back rest was not lined up when assembled at the factory and is off skew. Looks dumb. Could it be fixed without damaging? Maybe. The guitar rest do not hold an electric guitar on mine without it setting sideways and risking a fall. Can I bend them around to work? Maybe. I don't currently have an acoustic on hand to test. "I barely have a butt but still find this hard to get situated on. Very small seat. Hard and not comfortable. I never believed there could be so many issues with a simple chair. I may cut the legs and basically rebuild the rest of it and keep it, but I have to say it is nowhere near worth the price. These are budget music stands and you get what you pay for. They work fine, but the metal work is poor quality (jagged part that sticks out on the back, difficult to get the supporting piece through the vertical piece). The biggest concern is the flimsy box this was sent in. Three boxes that weren't meant for shipping were taped together and smashed in transit, so two of the six knobs were missing on arrival and the seller isn't responding to my refund request.Joe

This is a really good stand but the feet spread apart so far that most solid body electrics wont be secure . my Music Man rested on the floor .I am sure a Les Paul or similar guitars would do the same . The stands are great, sturdy, and priced to move. The Proline website warns the following, "Foam pads on the stand should not be used with guitars featuring nitrocellulose lacquer." I own a Martin with nitrocellulose finish. It was in the stand for about a year, it never caused any damage to the guitar. — However, that being said, I spoke to Michael and Tyler at Proline, and they said that there was at least one complaint, and it prompted Proline to install the above warning. I wonder if putting a small plastic patch covered with a small washcloth barrier between the pads and the guitar would help? In any case, there was no clear answer to the anomaly of the mystery complaint. — Michael (a 13 year employee), said he heard one complaint, and that it was the reason for the website warning. He explained that he hear two explanations: a wear issue, or a chemical reaction, but admitted that the reports are unconfirmed. Tyler explained that he seemed to remember something about the nitrocellulose finish was stained, but this report is also unconfirmed. Tyler's commentary of the stain, and Michael's commentary of chemical reaction could be a point of agreement, but certainly not a cause for alarm. — With 3 guitar stands in use I have not had any issues except that I need more of them. Well made as expected (my 2nd Hercules stand). Small and neat design. I wanted a stand that would hold the guitar in its gig bag as well as just the guitar on its own. This it does. I would have preferred the height at the back (hinge side) to have been say 50mm higher and the front hooks maybe 10mm longer but it does the job ok as it is. Reasonable price.Keith S.
Over many years of playing professionally I've had to use a lot of instrument stands. I must say that I have never used anything like the Hercules guitar stand. Don't let the small size fool you. This thing is built like a tank. It is extremely solid and very well balanced. The grip and balance is so good, I use it for my banjo. Before I purchased my Hercules stand I always had to place mt instrument back in the case during breaks. Now, I fully trust the Hercules guitar stand to securely hold my $3000 instrument. I highly recommend, if you play a stringed instrument, that you use no other stand than the Hercules. Strong, holds instrument securely, easy to travel with. Bought 2 of these when they were the Stupid Deal of the Day. I figured even if they were a little flimsy, they would do an adequate job of holding three guitars in my studio or living room, or maybe even serve for a gig. I am very disappointed in this product. As stated in other customer reviews, no matter what guitars you put on the stands, the headstocks will touch. There is no simple adjustment you can make to the stand to avoid this. If you have the right sized guitars, you may be able to angle them just so to avoid touching, but this level of thought should not be necessary for such a critical piece of kit. It's clunky, poorly designed, and wobbly: the little rubber arm that prevents your guitar from falling out is, sadly, a necessary precaution when leaving your guitar in the stand. At this price point (yes, I mean cheap), I guess it's meant to be disposable. I recommend spending more and getting a Hercules or something more reliable and worthy of your instruments. This last recommendation should also be applied when considering the purchase of any Musician's Gear product.Chordtone
I purchased one of these previously and it was fine. My second unit had the vertical bar mounted to the base so crooked that would nearly fall over backward when a guitar was placed on it. Customer service was super friendly and helpful and sent me another unit at no cost. Unfortunately the replacement was almost as bad, with the vertical bar now leaning to the left. At this point I just gave up. Some say "you get what you pay for" but I would expect any item sold to at the very least fulfill it's primary function to some degree, but these don't. Again, Musicians Friend has good customer service, but this stand is not usable.Clint
Once setting this up out of the box, an issue was obvious. Apparently when this was constructed and welded/soldered at the factory, the connection of the vertical section to the tripod base was done so crookedly, and leaning to one side. there was no way to correct this as it's either soldered or welded at the bottom section, and I wouldn't trust a guitar on this stand. This was a few bucks cheaper than the Chromecast brand so I thought I'd give it a try. Unfortunately even at $10, it was a waste of time needing to process a return/refund. A guitar stand is a guitar stand and they all work basically the same whether you spend ten or fifty dollars on one. This On-Stage stand does exactly what it is supposed to, BUT, I returned my pack of 3 for two reasons: #1, I like to often rest my guitars in a stand with them still plugged up, and this stand sits too low to allow for that. I have other similar stands that hold the guitar higher off the ground. #2. This stand has a very short rear leg which in turn makes it much easier for the guitar to be turned over in the 10:00 or 2:00 positions if bumped. My other similar stands – even while holding my guitars higher off the floor, are much more stable because they also have a much longer rear leg. But if you have a strictly acoustic guitar that will not need to be held while plugged up, and kept in a low-traffic location, then this On-Stage stand is just fine.Johnjohn
Ordered a three-part guitar stand: #1. The tripod base, #2. the swiveling "fork" holding the guitar's body and #3. the upper bent tube, where the guitar's neck is secured with the rubber band. They vendor remained silent, no communication for 5 days, then all of a sudden it said they shipped it. It arrived surprisingly fast in 2-3 days tops, BUT, the 3rd part was missing from the package. I started a "send me the missing part or return/refund" case and in about 8 hrs they had refunded the money and let me keep the (albeit) useless item. Obviously a bad experience, but at least they were honest and did not give me a hard time with the refund. What's interesting is that there was no communication from them at all. Like a …silent company. Did some research, they are a surplus liquidator somewhere in Ohio, so basically they buy …"leftovers" (returns, defective, unclaimed layaways, etc.) and sell them on ebay. I’m using it for a very long and heavy bass. Was a bit difficult to adjust for height when first setting up as I had the bass in one hand with nowhere convenient to put it whilst sliding the stand into the correct height. Don’t adjust it whilst the instrument is sitting in the yoke. Once in action, it’s pretty damn good, with the AGS lock being fast and sure. I’m now thinking of getting more for my other guitars.
I have owned quite a few guitar stands and this one is absolutely the best. It is the sturdiest stand I have ever owned. The auto lock feature is incredible. I now own 2 and will never buy another companies stands. If you are worried because you have a nitrocellulose finish, hopefully this works out for you. As far as I know, Fender and Gibson are the only ones who still use that inferior finish.Travis

So far they've been holding every guitar I've hung . Only thing is they could have provided longer screws . I secured them into the studs in the wall and the screws they provided only went into the stud about 1/8" or so . I used a little longer screw in each top hole of the hangers that I had here at home for a little more holding power and peace of mind knowing they may hold a little better . The screws they provided may have held okay but when you are hanging expensive pieces of equipment up you don't want to take any chances of them falling and breaking . That being said , for the price I think you can handle buying a few longer screws .bm_us_8zd57wz1z

IMO these are the best stage guitar stands available. With the widely spaced legs and the locking top assembly, they hold your instrument solidly with little chance of it falling. Also, the physics of "hanging" the guitar on the stand puts less bending pressure on the neck. I own several Hercules stands purchased a few years ago. These new ones are much improved over the original versions. I found that the original plastic parts tended to get "sticky" to touch over time. I'm not sure if that was due to environment issues but, they felt awful. It appears these newer ones have an improved formula for the plastic/rubber parts and they don't develop this problem.MarkInTheGardens
I just started learning guitar and have been on the Tech Team at 1st Pres downtown since 2012. The old guitar stands back in the choir room always scared me to pick up as the cradles or other parts would fall of or swing to odd angles while carrying them to the stage. The 2-pack was on a "Stupid Deal of the Hour" one weekend so I placed an order and set one up at home when they arrived to see how it works. Sweet! The guys on Praise Team love these since they're much more secure and easy to move around the stage, esp. since we have only a half-hour to reset for our second service. Easy enough for one person to grab all three at once to carry off the stage, too. I donated three of these, since I ordered another 2-pack a week later on a "Stupid Deal of The Day" and kept one for me at home. I really like the Auto Grip System and the detents for adjustable height. Hercules products appear well-thought out designs, and obviously when revisions make sense, they'll make it so.
I bought the first for a mandocello and was impressed with its ease of use, stability, and instrument retention. The second I bought for a tenor guitar. The stand provided easy adjustability for the smaller instrument. When I bought a 5/4 size guitar for my granddaughter, of course, the stand was a necessity. A great little stand that I can easily fit into my gig bag thereby helping me to reduce still further the weight load of what I take to gigs. The name of the game for me these days is to travel as light as is possible and practicable and this is a further step in that direction. And it does the job perfectly. The stand is portable and easily fits into an equiipment gig bag; this is the main reason I purchased it. I own to others I use on stage, and this one serves as a backup stand as well as one I use when I travel for practice sessions. I was successful at bending the padded support arms to fit a tenor ukulele. Not a perfect solution, but for casual use this foldable stand is light and easily transportable. There is virtually nothing that can be manually adjusted to fit, unless you are willing to take a little risk by physically deforming the original configuration. There is no case, and as such it is not a good candidate to travel in anything but an equipment bag or box. So far, the construction of the stand is in line with what I thought I was getting for my money. I can make it work, but time will tell if it will hold up.Wiley
Like the title indicates, I have been using these stands for 24 years. My recent purchase was to replace one that finally failed (the screw stripped). I am a solo musician, I play 3 and 4 hour gigs almost every day during the tourist season. I main instrument is a Fender Stratocaster but I have Acoustic guitars and use the acoustic stands as well. I have also placed my bass guitars on the electric guitar stand as well. I love that I can put the stand in the guitar case. I see many of my fellow entertainers carry these bulky, awkward stands that have to be carried separately. Very sturdy, suitable for expensive gear
I liked the old Quik Lok stands better, but they changed their design so it's far less functional now. In light of that, I opted for this more expensive stand that works well for Strats, but anything with squared off sides will sit on just 4 contact points. That's enough to hold the guitar securely, but only time will tell wether or not it will affect the finish at those points.JDBlues
I bought this for my Epiphone G-1275 double neck. Sturdy and 3-click adjustable for the extra width of the double neck body. As far as my single neck guitars being secure though, I prefer the "hanging" guitar stands like the Ultimate Support GS-100 Genesis. You can't fasten a guitar neck "seat belt" on this one.John
