I bought a new fender telecaster and fell in love with the tone of it. I didn’t realize how much of an impact the strings had u til I changed them. I always found the metallic sound of new strings somewhat abrasive and too much. Round core strings don’t have that. There’s a warm, flexible, springiness to them. The tone is full sounding. It’s hard to describe. Anyway I had to go through so many packs of strings to figure out what kind of strings came on that fender. I’ve used pure nickel strings for many years now. I started using them to get a more vintage Roy Buchanan tone and after trial, error and much research I now use these strings. I used to use this gauge years ago and realised that when I saw them called the Jimi(Hendrix) set that this was the set they used to call the rock and roll 10s set. Unlike modern sets of 10s the G string is only 15 gauge and the bass E is only 38. (Roy Buchanan allegedly used to change the 10 to 9) This along with the pure nickel make the big bends that Jimi. Roy and Danny Gatton did possible. I love the sound of these strings and this gauge. They sound really authentic and can last a couple of months for me.Tom
Like I've stated in my other reviews, these are hands-down the best string I've ever used, and I've used pretty much every string out there. The pure nickel round-core ones really step up the game and you can notice a huge difference in normal hex-core strings, not to mention how these compare to any other string that isn't pure nickel. These are by far superior, and the regular round core nickel-wounds are a less expensive alternative to the pyramid hand-polished ones which are by far the best strings out there. The only difference is they aren't polished and are a tad rougher, as the hand-polished ones are smoother and get rid of a lot of finger noise -even though they're not flat wound!Antonio

My Mitchell MS450 (single cutaway LP style guitar) came with D'Add's, which sounded decent. When I switched them out, I went with the GHS 10's on a hunch based on things I've heard. Great move! Nice, brilliant tone, rings out for eternity if you let them! I have heard that the GHS 9's are really good on Strat style guitars, so GHS might be my go to on my Squier Strat Classic Vibe next string change.Joe
I used 11's from D'Addario for years and I would break a string consistently for every show that I played. I do not know why I kept with D'Addario for so long. I figured I needed to have a heavier string gauge for durability and better tone. Searched around and came across these strings in the heavy gauge, and I could not be happier with them. These strings have great sustain, are durable, do not corrode as quickly as other brands I have used in my professional career playing music, and, despite their heaviness, are easy to play in standard tuning. Along with playing well with a pick and fingers, these strings also sound terrific when playing slide. You can get the same great tones out of these strings that Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks have with their lighter gauges, as well as channeling the fat tones that you hear from Duane Allman from the Fillmore East show. Great Garcia tones can come from these strings as well. Basically what I am saying is that you can still get those classic guitar sounds on these heavy strings without feeling like your losing tone or playing opportunities utilized by the players that inspire you who may use lighter string gauges. These strings also (as far as I know) have a round core instead of a hex core. I think that might be a reason why these strings have so much sustain, especially when you have some distortion or overdrive keeping them warm while playing lead. If you are on the fence about getting these, I recommend you give them a try just see how they work for you. They are no that expensive and its worth it to figure out what works for you as a player. Feeling confidence in the gear you use is so essential to being comfortable on stage. Buy a pack and see what happens. You might find yourself just what you've been looking for.JFromJUNCO
I used to use Boomers for about 10 years, on all my electrics (9s). Until arthritis started creeping in. Switched to EB slinky 8s, and playing became much easier. Everything still had a huge sound, but previous order added a test set of the Boomer 8.5s for my Gibson Les Paul goldtop with P90s. Took a while to get used to the rougher feel compared with the EB 8s. But will probably order another set for the goldtop, and a set for my ES295.Joe S.

Contrary to other reviews, they DO stay in tune (check your intonation and guitar setup in general) and they DO last a long time. I'm not a fan of strings that have windings that work against you. Got these just sampling a few string sets and stuck them on my 2005 Tele Deluxe, they have a fairly decent tone & output compared to my Slinkies and seem to be good quality but my major complaint is the G B and E to me are under much more tension tuned at 440, kinda mixed feelings since some of my guitars are strung with 10's so for me these are 10 feeling 9's ! I've been meaning to give SIT strings a try for awhile now. Finally did and all I can say is I wish I had started using them a long time ago. EXCELLENT strings. Stay in tune better than any other string I've used. I used a well known brand for years and seems a lot of other musicians did as well. I got tired of tuning after every song. Now with SIT if they're out of tune it isn't by much. My intonation is better, tone is great for my tele and stat. I use the 1150 Power Wound and I am recommended them to all my fellow musican brothers.Mike
I was looking for a set of strings for my Telecaster, which has a P90 at neck. The tone I like most is within the range of pop/classic rock/hard rock. Two other sets for my reference are Ernie Ball 2250 Classic Pure Nickel Power Slinky and Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalt in 11s, which I use regularly on my two other guitars. S1150 gives a full, smooth clean sound. It has a stronger mid presence comparing to the Ernie Balls. The high is smoothly rolled off so even the Tele bridge clean tone (which I won't use that often) doesn't have a strong honky character. I guess it's not the best if your pickups are already mid-strong, like a serial humbucker. For distortion, it provides a medium granularity. So it gets into the hard rock territory but not the heavy metal domain. The Ernie Balls sounds finer and the SITs gives a more in your face feeling. In summary, it provides a different tone than the Ernie Balls so I'll associate it with my Tele for a long time. It's probably not the best choice if you are looking for a more angular/aggressive sound, but it's a safe choice for the tone conservatives.immyownpet

I was surprised to fine this heavy of a guage of strings. I didn't know they existed. The thing about heavy strings is that you have much more ability to play with dynamic resonance – something you can't really get with light guage strings. With these strings, you can play as softly as you wish but when you really want it to "come out" they don't disappoint. I also only play with the fleshy tip of my fingers which melds into the subtle nuances of chord and solo performance.garycgrieve
The package is for C standard, not Drop C as some people mistakenly think…well, I guess you could use them for Drop C if you like veeeery stiff strings. If you want strings for Drop C, I'd suggest a skinny top/heavy bottom set of strings with an 11 up top and a 54 or so on the bottom so the bottom E tuned to C doesn't get floppy and knocked out of tune easily. Anyway, I've been using these for a long time on my USA core line PRS Custom 24 in C standard. They seem fine for going down a half step to B standard and feel fine even up half a step to C# standard. That's as high as I'd tune these strings up, though. I have these strings on my schecter c-1 SLS blackjack tuned all the way down to drop A#, and let me tell you, despite being labeled as optimized for drop C, I don't recommend them for that tuning. 11-52s, 12-54s and 11-56s are better for Drop C, but for Drop B and Drop A#, you will not find a better gauge than these on a 25.5 scale length guitar or a 26.5 baritone. The tension is absolutely perfect! It feels like a 10-52 set in E standard with the E string tuned to D! Like with all D'addarios, they are bright, long lasting, they feel smooth and they absolutely love locking tremolos. I can yank my floyd rose all I want and it still will not go out of tune. Since D'addarios are bright as I stated before, they also remain clear under high gain, which I use my marshall JVM on the red channel with a maxon OD as a boost and a peavey 5150. Between the tuning stability, the tension, the reliability, the playability and the string life, you cannot go wrong with these for baritone tunings!Daniel

I have been using Ernie Ball strings for quite some time. I've gone through most of the gauges and I was set on the Mega Slinkys. Then I saw that EB came out with the lightest strings available called Zippy Slinky. I was way excited to try these out. My guitar center carried the strings and I bought 3 sets. As I was putting the strings on my guitar, I couldn't believe how thin they were especially the high E string. I played my tele after tuning the strings and I was amazed at how awesome they played and sounded! They are extremely easy to play and stay in tune and not one string broke. You don't have to play soft or delicate with these strings. I play surf and these strings really do the job. I'll be sticking with Zippys for now on.Dan

I have to say I am really quite impressed. I thought strings were just all the same. These did not flatten as they were first played in (I've never known that before it's almost wierd). They also maintain pitch unlike any other string I've used. Personally really liking the jazz set, although I'd still like heavier treble strings but keeping the 56. When struck they do not sharpen as much at the transient, the 'on pitch' plateau is longer and it is long, long into the sustain before they start to flatten. They are worth experiencing.Peter
A bit pricier than the XL set but expect at least two weeks of optimal tone before changing strings if playing or recording everyday. A touch lighter tension than the XL equivalent gauge set and silkier on the fingers. These NYXL strings provided a significant boost in output. Great tone, a pleasure to play. I have a first gen Fender Telecoustic [2002] that I use as a travel guitar and for certain song parts live and in the home studio. I had been using extra light acoustic strings, which worked pretty well, but I recently started using the XL115W's and they are perfect for this guitar. The acoustic sound is bright and clear and the electric sound is just awesome – giving me all I could want. If you're looking for a different approach to stringing up your acoustic-electric, give these strings a try. BTW I tried the XL110W's on the Telecoustic first and liked them, but the 115's are perfect.
After buying these strings and slapping them on my Ibanez Artcore semi-hollow, I can honestly say that the best thing I have ever did to improve my guitar's tone was put higher gauge strings on it. Maybe semi-hollows just resonate better with them, not sure. The round 3rd string is pretty clutch – the strings I used to put on would have a very noisy, tinny-sounding 3rd string and having a wound one like this has completely solved that issue. My Artcore would just sound too twangy in general with lighter strings on it, too – and having heavier gauge strings improved that issue by leaps and bounds. I'm not exactly an expert in tone so I can't argue about the finer points of the sound these strings make – but my bottom line is, they help me to better access the range of sounds that I want from my instrument, and that's what matters. Definitely 5 stars for tone. I have one complaint though: I am an abusive bender, as it were. When I bend the strings, I push their limits pretty friggin hard, and these particular strings will only take so much. Had a string break on me yesterday while I was bending really hard but I had another set hanging around so it was all good. My lighter gauge strings from before would withstand this abuse beautifully – but just keep in mind that when you move up to thicker strings, you're making a trade-off: the thicker strings will wear out and break more quickly if you push them too hard and bend them abusively like I do. On the subject of bending, also: with the wound 3rd string, if you want to bend it, you need to bend it a lot further to get the interval that you want, so just be prepared for that. All in all however, I am VERY happy with these strings. I'll have to take it easy on the bending a little bit, but for me that's more than a worthy trade-off for strings that really make my baby sing like she should. I can't necessarily speak for how these would sound on other guitars because I've never heard what they sound like on others, but I would MOST DEFINITELY recommend them for anyone playing a hollow or semi-hollow guitar. These strings helped with tuning stability issues I was having with an (Indonesian, fat neck) Epiphone 335 Dot, which I love but the unwound G string was going out of tune. Swapped out the bridge (Guitar Fetish–nice choice and half the price of TonePro) and the nut (Graph Tech), which also helped. I retained the lower three strings from the 'Heavy Bottom" set I had on it already. The top 3 strings sound great, but I've only had 'em on for a few days. I also put these on another 335-style guitar, but the bottom 3 strings felt just a bit flimsy switching back and forth with the Epi, not surprisingly. They sound good, nice and acoustically rich.Doc

I used to have to buy the Skinny Top Heavy Bottom and Power Slinky set in order to get the low and high strings that I preferred but ever since Ernie Ball came out with this set I don't have to. It's my go to set of strings for standard because I like tight strings that I can chug or shred on. Plus they last forever. Get these!Rollin
The biggest selling point for Super Slinky strings is their magnificent tone. There really aren't any strings that sound better than these for hard rock. But as others have noted, they are sometimes prone to premature breakage of the unwound strings at the ball end. It you use a locking tremolo like a Floyd Rose, then this isn't an issue, as you'll be cutting off the ball ends anyway. But for everyone else, he's a trick that I (and many other players) have been using for Super Slinky's ever since the 80's. Just grab your soldering iron and solder the string down where it's twisted around the ball. Just be sure that the twisted part is nicely coated with solder and you shouldn't have any more problems with early breakage. Don't worry, it won't mess up their tone of anything like that… not if you do it right. Try it and see!Rasterburn
These are really nice! They deliver very warm and round tones when playing clean; however, when using overdrive or distortion, the tone becomes pretty monstrous! Because of their thickness, understand they're not made for easy bends and jazzy licks. Additionally, if your guitar is set-up for 9's, or even 10's, you'll need to make slight adjustments in your action, especially if you're using a trem.Shane S.

A very good friend of mine uses these strings all the time; on all of his guitars. After playing few of his instruments, i understood why. In my opinion, these strings are pretty nice. They are smooth (not sticky feeling like flat wound chomes) and they seem to hold there tone pretty well. (At least for me) I have used these strings in the past but i couldn't appreciate them because i had a bad guitar. That's all changed now. I think i really like theseTC
Nickel electric guitar strings are the bright sounding electric guitar strings. You get the manufacturing process of DR 's specific string core winding technology the way they make their High Beam bass and guitar and guitar strings. DR pure Blues strings are as bright, loud and clear and well made both material and manufacturing wise as electric guitar strings can be. I wanted to try something different. I had EB slinkys on my Gretsch Jet. I decided to give the DR handmade Pure Blues a go. Personally I think these are better than the EB. They feel and sound different. Playing seems to take less effort than the EB’s. I would suggest do a google search on stringing roundcore strings. Apparently there are pitfalls if you don’t string them right. I’m going to order a couple more packs just in case. I’m very tempted to try the acoustic strings as well.DGB

For years I've been trying numerous gauges and brands of strings for playing in Drop C. I currently play 25.5 scale guitars, but used to play 24.75 which made finding the right strings difficult. I thought I found the right set when I started using the 10-52 set and replacing the 52 for a 56, but I started wearing out the 10s on top so I went for this set. The lower strings are beefy enough to handle riffs, but the .42 (A) and .30 (D) strings still give and breath enough for smoother playing. The 11s on top feel like 10s in standard which make them great for soloing or playing fuller chords. Definitely recommend this gauge.Justin_lee2014
