Wide Neck Guitar For Fat Fingers For Sale (2024 Update)

I bought this guitar because I wanted a new toy and because of the price – I figured I didn't have much to lose. I have three other guitars, two of them Jackson, that I play frequently, and I always wanted a guitar of this style. The natural finish is attractive and unusual. I like that. The pickups are ok, but the electronics leave a lot to be desired. The fingerboard craftsmanship is lacking attention, at least on the one I received. There are unfinished areas and one of the inlays is missing a small section. I don't know what strings they send over to China to put on this thing, but they are complete garbage. Putting some new strings on improved things a lot. This also suffers from some fret buzz. The guitar comes setup pretty well. The intonation seems to be spot on and the truss rod is adjusted properly. Action is set surprisingly well, considering the price of the guitar. However, as I mentioned above, this results in some fret buzz. I'll work with that a bit later. The neck has the same feel and playability as my higher-end Jacksons, so that's a plus. Overall, I don't think you could go wrong with this in the low price range. I'd recommend inspecting the guitar closely upon receipt to double check quality control. I wouldn't recommend this as a first guitar, unless an experienced guitarist is available to inspect. It's also not a guitar that's easy to sit and play, which is something to consider. If you get a good one and it's setup properly, this is an excellent guitar for ripping out some metal riffs or just having fun. Just don't take it too seriously.Matt

I received my guitar about three days ago, and overall I am very happy with my purchase. The guitar looks awesome – I love the wood finish with gold hardware, and have received many compliments on the instrument's overall appearance. It is incredibly light, weighing in at just about 7 pounds, making it the lightest guitar I have ever owned. I love the feel of Jackson necks, and this guitar is no exception. It has a fast action that makes speedy riffs a breeze to play. Access to the higher portion of the fret board is incredible, thanks to the V body shape. This is my first Flying V guitar, and I will definitely need to get used to handling the unique body shape as I play. Now for a couple cons that made me drop my rating from 5 to 4 stars: this guitar is top heavy. I have never owned a top-heavy guitar before, and it is super inconvenient to play standing up. You have to put in a constant effort to keep the guitar level as you play. I personally like to play with my guitar at a 45-degree upwards angle, which is much more difficult to do on this guitar then on any of my other well-balanced instruments. While the natural wood body looks awesome, it feels as if it would be easy to damage. But as long as you're careful you shouldn't run into any issues. I ordered this guitar online, and was not happy with the experience Guitar Center delivered. It said that the instrument was in stock and ready to ship, but after three days I still hadn't received a shipping confirmation in my email. I reached out to customer support and found out that the guitar was actually not in stock and I would have to wait three additional weeks before my guitar would ship. That was a bummer. All in all I would recommend this guitar, and am happy I added it to my collection!Darin

My fiance purchased this guitar for me as a early Christmas gift around october 2019. After the usual string change adjustments and tuning it sounded great and played great. Only real issue is neck dive but with this body shape you expect it and can be corrected by moving the strap button placement to the back plate or near by depending on your choice i left it and rest the top horn inside my leg like you see dimebag with his ml and many others with the v shape and non traditional shapes like the warriors king Vs and so on. I personally love the Rhoads shape and the natural finish. Other than some minor changes and upgrades knobs Tusq Nut Locking tuners and a Seymour Duncan bridge pickup upgrade and a good setup this guitar is my daily player out of the 6 i own its become my favorite im looking to buy another honestlychuck thomas

WAY better than I expected. I wanted an inexpensive yet playable 335 style axe, and after researching extensively, settled on this one. When it arrived, I gave it intense scrutiny, and after playing it for a bit decided to do the following: polish the frets (they were a little "gritty" on bends) and LOWER the action a bit. I didn't have to touch the neck truss rod at all! The fit and finish were perfect. I then changed strings going to my normal 11's (it comes with 10's) and hemp oiled the fretboard in the process. Then I intonated it…it was close out of the box, but needed a slight tweak. Then I played it for 4 hours at band rehearsal and grew increasingly impressed with the tonal characteristics of the pups Don't let anyone tell you that the pups are in need of replacing. They are fine, and have just enough "bite" to cut through the band mix. I happen to like ceramic pups over Alco's. We do everything from Dire Straits to George Benson to Frank Sinatra to the Stones and George Strait. This axe can handle them all. I particularly like having only ONE volume and tone pot…no one has the time in a live setting to adjust 4 knobs until the "sweet spot" tone mix is achieved. Studios? Yes. Live? No. Next, I installed a LesTrem vibrato and roller bridge I had and they literally just dropped in. All said, I love this guitar. I have Fenders, A custom made Carvin DC-127 and have also had Gibsons and Epiphones. They are all fine instruments. But the neck on this gem stands above them all. And I like the medium frets over the medium jumbo's that most manufacturers put on their guitars. It's a great little player and definitely a keeper. But if you find one, snap it up because they are telling me that the next shipment won't be for 6 months!!! I had to call three sellers before I could find someone who had them in stock. Ended up with AMS, who did a fine job in the sales end.Jazzer John

I've been a pro live player for nearly 50 years. This is my first Ibanez. I bought it just to have a 335 style axe for variety. When it arrived, and I unboxed it, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at the fit and finish of the guitar. But the proof is in the playing. After playing it for a few hours and making a few minor adjustments to bridge height, neck tension, et al, I fell in love with it. Forget what people say about the pickups…they're just fine. A pickup is just wire and magnets, and all the hype about tone differences is just that…hype. Some pups are louder than others, but that's why amps come with volume and tone controls. Use 'em!. These pups are a nice "in between" of single coil "bark" and hummer "deep." Which makes this axe able to handle anything from jazz to country. I can't leave a good thing alone, so I mounted Hipshot locking tuners that I had in my parts box on it, a new Tusq nut, and found a perfect old Bowen Handle trem to mount on the TOM studs. Then I polished the frets, gave a file to the fret ends (some small fret sprout) and dressed them… now the beast is comparable to my Carvin DC-127 koa body $1500 guitar in ease of playability. I'm serious. This axe is a sleeper worth three times the cost. I especially like the fact thatit only has one volume and one tone control…who has time to adjust FOUR knobs when playing live, right. This is easy to use, easy to reach, and the pots are just fine without scratch of slop.expertprinter0

I purchased a Jackson Soloist SLX Black. It came in absolutely perfect condition, with original package and all the equipment include (Tremolo Bar, Allen Wrenches, etc…). In the add on the ebay auction it mentioned new but having a few slight swirls in the finish….I looked every where and couldn't find one….and I would have noticed. I will definitely purchase again, item as described with quick shipping. When you purchase something with high expectations and receive it that way, I had to write the review. I never write reviews but i felt that this guitar deserved one so that anyone considering purchasing one of these riff monsters will not hesitate and miss out on an incredible guitar. Despite the somewhat crappy pickups and cheap tremolo, this is the most amazing guitar I have ever played or heard. Opinions vary but I have been playing for fifteen years and I may not be extremely hard to impress I do have pretty high standards. I upgraded the bridge pickup to a Bill Lawrence l-500-xl(AMAZING PICKUP, very bright with extreme clarity and harmonic response) and left the neck pickup in since it sounded pretty decent(warm with a little cut and bite). I also upgraded the Floyd special with mighty mite saddles and a Floyd Rose fat brass sustain block which made a WORLD of difference. Essentially from the info that I gathered a Floyd special is almost the same as an original except a little cheaper quality with cheap zinc alloy saddles and sustain block but once you change these out and replace with quality parts you have basically a second runner up to an original Floyd rose. The guitar holds tune extremely well and has an amazing sound quality to it given its made of what many consider a cheap tone wood(Nato) which is an Asian mahogany but the results are top notch which are undeniable. I own many guitars, mostly Gibson and epiphone but after playing and hearing and feeling this guitar its made me not want to play them anymore. The neck on this guitar is so phenomenal that is just unreal. It feels so fantastic to play and sounds incredible and I purchased mine in slime green and the finish is simply stunning!! A guitar is worth to you as much as you feel no matter the price paid. You ultimately know an amazing peice of work when you see it or experience it. After purchasing the upgrades to the guitar and a case I have around seven hundred dollars invested but I honestly feel like I have a guitar that is worth thousands of dollars despite actual cost. That is the ultimate to any buyer but especially someone who is passionate about what they do and their investment, which this is truly a lifetime investment… and i imagine that you are going to enjoy this guitar for a lifetime. Best guitar I have ever owned or played, hands down!!! You will have to upgrade some of the cheap parts but that's typical on alot of guitars at times to suite personal style and taste but a very minor inconvenience to achieve the ultimate tool for the trade. I ordered this guitar on December 21st and got it on the 24th. A lot sooner than I expected! The guitar has a great feel to it. It screams with tone and holds tune pretty well with the Floyd Rose tremolo. This by far the best guitar I've had in a awhile. I've had Srats, Ibanez, and Epiphone guitars and this one beats them all hands down. The only thing that I can call negative on this was I wanted the white version but that was on back order till January so I got the black instead. Still looks great in the black. I picked up the Surf Green Ltd Ed. Bullet Mustang a few days ago off the rack. They had two. One had rusty strings and sharp frets but the one I picked was almost perfect. These Mustangs are great for smaller learners and older guitarists that may enjoy the lighter string tension due to the short scale. I love the sound of both humbuckers. The bridge one gives you a nice grungy Nirvana like tone while the neck is smoother but both love to be driven. I picked up the Imperial Blue Mustang HH a few weeks ago. They both use the same humbuckers, The only difference I believe is the wood type, Basswood vs Poplar. Both guitars are quite light with the Basswood Surf Green one being somewhat lighter.These Mustangs are ideal for modding but for now I've only changed the cheap pickguard on this Surf Green one, putting a Tortoise Shell on it. So far I'm loving both of them and my Fender P90 Mustang is getting quite lonely.Tingman

First of all, this is a ton of value for the price. I got it on sale which made it even a bigger steal. Now, this guitar needs a lot of setup out of the box. You should polish the frets since they are as coarse as beach sand. Otherwise, string bends will be impossible and will most likely damage the cheap supplied strings (which should be changed immediately as with most new guitars). Expect some fret buzz, so be ready to adjust the saddles and the truss rod (I like my action quite low so this was a minor tweak for me). The intonation was actually quite close to perfect, it only needed a bit of tweaking on the A string. The nut and string trees are the ones you typically get on Squiers, which are good enough but won't do wonders for your tuning and should be replaced unless you are patient enough to tune your guitar every so often. Be sure to change these first before changing the tuners/bridge if you have tuning problems, I haven't changed the tuners or bridge on mine and don't plan to – they just work. Finally, the pickups are surprisingly good for the price, not too mellow and you can get some nice tones from the bridge pickup. You might soon outgrow them, though, and might opt for better humbuckers or P90s. For all these reasons, this guitar is not the best as a first guitar or for beginners unless it gets a proper setup first or if you're really planning to learn how to setup or change electronics/other parts in a guitar. However, those are the same reasons (plus the low price and simple design) that make this a really fun modding platform, and if you don't feel like modding it, with the right amount of work it's still amazing. It's light as a feather and the neck is very fast; you can probably muscle through hours of playing with barely any effort at all. The stock tones are reasonable enough, and in my opinion it looks awesome. You can't get a better deal for the money once you're aware of the above.Carlos, M

I like this guitar because of the 24" scale length. Everything else was pretty bad out of the box. The strings were a 1/4" off the fretboard. The fretboard was super dry. There was fret sprout. The frets felt like sandpaper on bends. The E strings are too close to the edge of the fretboard. When you play you're constantly hitting the pickup selector switch. The finish on the neck is supposed to be satin but it looks unfinished to me and there are light and dark areas on the neck which look bad. It is the worst finish on a neck I've ever seen on a guitar and I'm going to have to put some kind of finish on it. Trying to load strings is tricky and not as easy as on most other guitars you have to bend the end of the strings to get them to load. So that is the bad. The good? The tuners are your typical Chinese tuners that come on all cheap guitars these days, and they are fine. The pickups sound good. The 24" scale is great and really fun to play bends on!Steve

Bought without trying it out because I had seen a photo and decided I would like to try it but was out of stock for many months. Then it became available for $79 off and I jumped. – It came well packaged and in perfect condition. 'Played as well as it looked and it looks even better than the photos show it. The finish is as deep and glossy as any I have seen, and even the fretboard is bound. It seemed a tad bass shy at first but over the last few weeks has bloomed and now sounds beautifully balanced with tight well defined tones throughout the octaves and plenty of shimmer up high. 'Have not plugged in yet but it projects well without amplification and should be just fine for a small stage like a church or coffee house. I highly recommend this guitar to any enthusiast.Steven

I went to the GC in Palm Desert CA with a five-hundred dollar budget for a new acoustic/electric. There were three guitars that I had to play, but I was open to checking out others. I didn't see the Hummingbird in the room so I asked the clerk to check for me … he found one. Before he got back with the Epiphone, I had a chance to play the Guild and a Fender that were on my list, as well as a few that were not. The Fender was winning … until the clerk showed up with the Epiphone. The craftsmanship/fit and finish, the feel of the neck/action, the sound projection/tone … Everything about the guitar was perfect for me! I could not be happier!John

the guitar needs a full professional set up, new strings, pick-ups are good. if you are going to sit and play this get ready to have points on this guitar dig into your leg and chest,. The Mahogany body and maple neck through construction is enough for the price alone. On top of that you get Duncan Designed HB 103's which are some of the best passive pickups on the market. Next you get gold floyd rose hardware on a beautifully finished guitar. The binding and craftsmanship were excellent. All I had to do was ser the intonation. The tuners are fine except a little tight on a couple of them. Other than that, it is a flawless instrument. The only thing I might upgrade are the zinc alloy string blocks on the fr bridge but I like the way they sound for now. Just not sure if they will strip later on as zinc is a softer metal. The feel, tone and sustain is exceptional. This guitar produces the most brutal tones and I would put it up against a USA made model any day. Being made in Indonesia did not hurt the quality one bit. This is a great guitar, overall, especially for the price. I replaced the pickups with Seymour Duncans, as I am partial to them…but the stock pickups are really pretty good. I will say that I was very disappointed, when I changed the pickups, to find that I had to replace the locking nut, as one of the bolt holes was stripped and I could not lock the E & A strings down. Thanks be to God, I have several extra ones on hand…but most people don't… But, having replaced the nut, and given the frets a light sanding and polish, and oiled the neck…this guitar looks and plays great! As well as any high end guitar… I also love the Jackson Floyd Rose bridges. They are great quality, and they do everything that an expensive tremolo bridge does. The bar fits tightly, it always floats right back in tune, no matter how hard you abuse it…you can do flutters, dive bombs, etc…a very good bridge in my opinion. I highly recommend this guitar for anyone who is looking for a versatile guitar (but mostly metal), and doesn't want to spend $800 on a pro series. I had bought one of these back in 2017 when I made the switch to Acoustic. I don't know why but, I got rid of it so I could make the move tpo the Martin X-Series only because I had always wanted a Martin. To make a long story short, the Martin didn't cut it for me, so last week I made the move back to Taylor and the Big Baby. These newer ones are so beautiful but it's a shame, that Taylor has discontinued them. The Brown headstock along with the Solid Spruce top and Walnut back and sides, have really IMO, improved this model. Once set up properly, it stays in tune and just sounds awesome ! I would say that it is the best Acoustic going today which is under the 500 dollar range. Plus seeing that I'm on a low budget, this was a no-brainer. It's a keeper and I am getting a lot of joy playing it.Jeffrey

I had bought one of these from here way back in 2017 , which I used when I was gigging . I'm now retired ( 63 ) and only play at home now. I had to take a couple of years away from playing, due to pain in my left hand , which built up from 50 years of playing. I came back to playing in August of 2021 and I had bpught a Martin X-Series which at the time, I thought was great . Well it turned out that I ended up having issues with it and got rid of it, so I went back to getting a new, Big Baby Taylor, which always served me well. It's too bad that Taylor discontinued these because, these newer models are IMO, a vast improvement over the older ones. Since I got it on this past Sunday, I can not put this down. It just sounds so amazing and it stays in tune forever. While the included gigbag is a plus, I went and bought a Hardshell case for it. For those who want a Taylor but are on a low budget, this is worth the asking price and then some.Jeff

Since I went back to playing last summer after a 3 year hiatus, due to wrist pain in my left hand, I was using a Martin X-Series OMCX1E which I had nothing but problems with such as not staying in tune, fret buzz, etc. So over a week ago, I made the decision to switch to a Big Baby Taylor. I am limited as far as funds go, so $500.00 was the most that I could afford and I did not want to get a Baby but the Big Baby which is pretty close to a standard dreadnought size , at least as th neck scale is concerned. The body is a tad smaller and lighter which for me at my age ( 63 ) , makes playing a lot easier. Thiis came already set up and strung with Elixirs , which I liked . I can not believe how light in weight this is and it stays in tune , which is a huge plus for me. As far as tone goes, this easily blows away any of the Martin X-Series .I love this guitar and I will be making some wonderful memories with it.jeffreyo46

I am a 59 year old guitar player, had expensive and cheap gear over the years. I don't think I'm technically great but know how to get a good sound. When looking for a cheap guitar to sit with, my Les Paul and even my '88 Strat often got a bit uncomfortable , I decided to try one of these, you can return them after all, no trouble. What a great little guitar! Obviously GAK probably don't get these out of the box to check them, my box was still stapled shut from the factory, and this is OK at this level but I worry a beginner would be put off if the guitar is poorly set-up. First off the finish is superb, no rough edges to the frets, the colour and gloss on the body was perfect, the unvarnished neck just sits comfortably in the hand, I picked this above the more expensive 'Affinity' as apparently the nut width is a little wider. I didn't need to adjust the neck, I just cut the nut a little lower on the G,B and E strings for comfort. The frets needed a light rubbing with fine wet and dry and that was it, a perfect, light practise tool. I would even gig with this no problem. Each and every one of the tuners work smoothly and firmly. Sound wise, it sounds like a Tele to me and this is always a very subjective and personal thing anyway, I don't like overly powerful pickups (my Les Paul has '57's) I prefer to push the sound with pedals. All I can say is, if not sure, 'Buy one'. I have done nothing but played this to death since I got it 4 days ago, hard on the finger tips as I haven't played regularly for a while. 2 disclaimers: I got this 5 days ago. I've had an Jackson RR tattoo for years. She's a looker… never thought I'd get a purple guitar but the purple quilt w/ gold hardware and white binding is gorgeous and I love how the reverse headstock has the color and quilting too. It plays fast as F. You'll wanna shred on it. It makes me wanna play Crazy Train, Holy Wars and the like but it may make you wanna play stuff that's way above my skill level and you can! Never had a Floyd Rose before but tuning it up wasn't too bad out the box (and it's super fun!); we'll see what happens when a string snaps. The frets and unlacquered back are smooth so it's easy to do fun slides and bendy things! The sustain is pretty good thanks to the mahogany body and the thru neck and it just feels solid. I've read this is heavy compared to other V's but it's the lightest of my 3 electrics and it feels quality and well balanced – there's no neck dive. I love that it comes installed with Dunlop button strap locks which I've had to purchase & install previously on my other 2 electrics. The pickups sound great with distortion and I haven't/am never going to play this w/o distortion so who cares about clean but I will say comparatively it doesn't sound as good as the EMG's on my EC-1000. There are some QC issues: There's fret buzz on the low E, some purple paint smudges on a small part of the white binding and the blending of the paint in some areas (which you generally never look at) could be better. I didn't have any of these issues on my (similarly priced) LTD EC-1000 and (my much cheaper) Ibanez AR-325 so these are pretty disappointing. Bottom line: I haven't put it down yet. It's fun to play and my other guitars currently feel unloved. If you like metal or you've always wanted a V this shape you should get it. I'm going 4/5 stars for the QC issues which are super disappointing but well reported on Indonesian Jacksons. Let's be honest – this purchase is mostly about speed and style. Paint job is just ok, but not great. It has a cheap quality to it, but looks good from a little distance. Matte is a hard paint job to be fair, and this is entry level, but still, this is a review. Pickup colors don't match at all. I bought black plastic pickup covers, which made it look a lot better fairly affordably. The plastics of the backplate, the humbucker rings, and the pick guard are super cheap and kinda bent, maybe from heat? Once again, entry level, but still, I've bought guitars at this price point without these kinds of issues. The Jackson version of Floyd Rose seems pretty ok considering. I've never had a Floyd rose that stayed in tune for very long, so this seems to be about right. The pickups sound very aggressive and bright, which was surprising. There is a loose wire that I had to tape down because of it hits the right spot, it cuts off the pickups (maybe a ground wire? Everything works still) The high string is a little too close to the edge of the edge of the neck for my liking, but I think that's just a personal preference. The body and neck seem solid, the neck is left unfinished, which I usually prefer, though this neck is like completely unfinished, so I'll probably need to get some sort of wood treatment for it. The fret inlays are great at this price point (not dots) and the frets don't have any burrs, which is a good thing for your fingers. The outline of the neck in white is also a classy touch, and the headstock is beautiful. Overall, it's an ok guitar. I would maybe get a different finish, and wouldn't expect it to be the greatest guitar ever, but it has a personality to it and is still a Randy Rhodes. Plays fairly well, definitely shredable. Accessing the 24th fret is a little bit of a reach, but that's ok. If I were Jackson (fender), I'd raise the price $20 and put decent plastics on it because it really does cheapen the guitar overall. I'll probably replace those parts myself over time, but I really shouldn't have to.Zachary

Great guitar. I have several gibsons, some nicer Ibanez, and some of the upper end of the epiphone guitars. This guitar worried me before it arrived if it would have a loss of sustain or if it would sound thin due to the thinner body. It doesn’t. Full sound, great pickups, stays in tune perfectly and no neck dive. I’ve played the Gibson custom shop Frampton guitar, Custom shop Bonamassa standard, several other standards etc.. To me, this is more comfortable and I prefer the pickups here to the others. My favorite guitar and I would definitely recommend to anyone. I do wish it came in more colors, I’d buy a couple more if it did.David

I tried to be a Gibson hater for so long, but this guitar really converted me. I’ve always loved the look of Les Pauls but never like the thickness or weight of them (I’ve owned an Epiphone Les Paul which gave me the general body size to expect, at least). Also having a shoulder injury which makes heavy guitars basically a no-go, this ended up being an all-encompassing package for a perfect Les Paul. The weight of mine must be in the lower 8 lb, high 7 lb range (I haven’t gotten to put it on a scale yet, but it feels similar to my guitars that weigh in at those numbers). The thin body feels amazing and doesn’t push my forearm out as much as the traditional thickness of my Epi LP. I was also expecting some neck dive issues, but I don’t experience that with this one. I’m so glad they do the slim taper neck on these as it’s got to be the perfect neck shape, in my opinion. It fills the hand wonderfully yet doesn’t cause my hand to cramp and fatigue like way thicker or way thinner necks. The guitar played pretty amazingly out of the box. I did have to do a slight truss rod adjustment, but the provided Gibson tool makes any adjustments on this guitar a breeze. The 57 Classic +/57 Classic pickups are amazing too. Just the right amount of output with tons of articulation. I needed to back the neck pickup off a tad as it was a bit louder than the bridge right out of the box. Now it’s super even in volume between the selections and it can get so many tones just with the simple 3 way and volume/tone controls. Only real gripe I have about the guitar is that the nut isn’t cut too well for the low E string. It definitely will stay in the slot, but it maybe only has about the bottom 1/3rd of the string resting in it, and it tends to be the highest action of the strings at the lower frets. The guitar still plays like butter and I’m super happy I took a shot with this one. I also don’t have any of the typical tuning woes that most Gibsons seem to be plagued with, so I know the nut is cut pretty well, for the most part. I definitely can see myself playing more Gibsons in the future now, and I’ve already been GASing for some SGs. If they all come out of the box like this, I have no issue buying more whenever the money comes around. I hope they continue with the Lite series as well, because this guitar really gives me the best of both worlds with classic looks and comfortable playability.Ryan

I had played one of these in a store and liked the feel. After having one for a few weeks, I like it even more. I'm slightly taller than the average guy. Hence my fingers are a bit longer than the average guy. Maybe it is just because the neck seems to get thinner as you get up to the higher notes, but it seems like the neck is a little wider than the rest of my guitars up around the 15th to 24th frets. ("rest of my guitars" include Les Paul, Strat, Ibanez RG550, EVH Wolfgang, and others for reference). Aside from how great the paint job LOOKS, it does not have a gloss coat on it. This is a good thing since the paint job extends up the back of the neck allowing your hand to slide quite freely on the back of the neck. The bridge humbucker is fantastic. It screams the notes clearly with ZERO noise or hum when not playing. I'm not that impressed with the neck humbucker, but that's comparing it to the neck hum on my Les Paul, Carvin, and PRS Custom. AND, for about 90% of the 80s hair band songs you are never using that pickup anyway. The Floyd Rose is great! I got tired of waiting for it to need minor tuning adjustments naturally, so I'm to the point of TRYING to make it go out of tune even slightly and it STILL stays locked in tune. Overall, this guitar is now my GO TO for anything 80s (the biggest chunk of my playing preference).Steve

I was keen to find a 6 string that had a fixed bridge that I could use for covers and so I can retune to alternate tunings easily without having to get the screwdrivers and spending a lot of time retuning like a Locking Tremolo guitar. Thankfully the guitar already had Seymour Duncan pick ups in which are essential to having a aggressive tone but as well allow good expression so this meant it would be a case of getting the guitar out the box and playing rather than buying separate pick ups having to fit them in and so on. As I wanted a guitar that wasn't black or brightly colored the desert sand finish on the guitar really stood out and attracted me. Most of the SLP2's have a great selection of finish's. As for the neck and wood finish it is very smoothly and allows you to get quick access from from end of the neck to the other. Behind each the tuners on the headstock, there is this interesting circular turning device to help lock in the strings. This may help keep it in tune more but I also just attribute it staying in tune due to the general quality of the guitar. I bend the strings a lot for my lead playing and I play very aggressively with thick picks and rhythmically so once I put some heavier strings on (my preference) and configured the bridge saddles with a very small L shaped Allen/hex key the guitar stayed in tune.Tom H.

This guitar is a blast to play. The finish is nice and the fretwork was perfect. The only issue I had was with the tremolo not holding tune when I did extreme pulls and dives. (Not uncommon with this particular model Floyd Rose.) After installing a stop, extra spring, and restringing, it now stays in tune now matter how far I dive bomb. I also have a US made Jackson RR1, and this guitar compliments it nicely. It's a blast to play – you just have to be careful with that point sticking out in the back! 😉Tom

Let's face it. You're looking at this guitar because you want a flashy guitar and you want to rip it on the neck. Well, if that IS the case, you came to the right place. This is honestly one of the best guitars I've ever touched let alone owned. The neck is unbelievably fast and the action is perfect. The frets are almost silky smooth and is incredibly comfortable to move around on. The Seymour Duncans scream and will hold notes forever if you are able to. The bottom of the neck is also surprisingly easy to access for a V shaped guitar. It almost feels like theres no difference from reaching the bottoms frets than it is the higher frets. To cut to the chase, if you want to shred and have a comfortable guitar, this is for you.Salem Galaxy

I've had my RRX24 for about a month. I own other high end guitars and I have owned a few USA Jacksons in the past. I selected the gloss black finish with black inlays. The color combination is great for me. Jackson even includes a dark gray logo to complement the theme. The only visual drawback for me is the rather light colored rosewood fretboard. I dyed mine darker so problem solved. The neck on the RRX24 features graphite reinforcement which, at least in my case, makes the neck feel very rigid and it responds quickly to truss rod adjustments. The fret work is quite good; there were no sharp ends and I only did a very light fret level job to it. I level the frets on most every guitar I get because most all of them need it-even the USA built ones. There is binding on the neck but it's black so you really can't see it in photos but it's a nice touch. The balance of the guitar is perfect-it will not neck dive. The Duncan blackouts are hot and full of low end thunder. Love 'em. Great choice for a RR guitar as they can sound thin sometimes. The Floyd Rose Special bridge is not bad. Do be aware that the saddles may not last on the Special as they are cast zinc as opposed to the hardened steel found on the 1000 series or original Floyd's. I will probably change those out in the future. The tuners are standard Jackson branded and they work fine. You'll be locking the nut anyway. Overall, I love the guitar. It's very comfortable especially when standing up. It sounds great and looks killer. It feels like a quality instrument. I'd have no issues playing live or recording with it.T. Clyatt

I first bought a Jackson JS34Q Dinky DKA-M online without having seen or played it. I went to guitar Center to pick it up the next day and was blown away by how it looked. Way beyond my expectations. However, after getting home and playing it, it didn't take long for me to regret the purchase. I'm not going to go into it here, I will review that guitar separately but now you know where I'm coming from. I just dropped $400 on a guitar and was disappointed. I took it back and went right for this one. It had what the JS34 didn';t the abilityt to stay in tune and quality hardware. It looks and feels great but most importantly it sounds great. The knobs actually affect the sound wqith vewry little turning, like my Fender Strat. Mosat shred guitars I've ever owned sound good only when cranked up but these offer different levels of quality sound. The switch feels solid and knobs don't turn too easily. The neck is incredibly fast although my 6th string had a bit of a buzz when played open of all things. I'm going to have a local guy fix that tomorrow. Other than that this is my favorite guitar and I own 12 others. Prior to getting this, my fave was the Dean Dave Mustaine Angel of Death V and I still love that guitar but this one is lighter, easier to play and it inspires new riffs from me better than any of my others. I will upgrade the pick ups tho. Not sure which yet but I'll have fun trying to figure that out.Bruce M

I would of preferred to buy a solid top Martin for my son but he has an attic bedroom which fluctuates with the heat and we were worried about keeping it stored safely so at his request I brought him this one instead. I had previously seen and held the solid mahogany version and so when this arrived it did look different (not quite as nice) and there was a slight difference it tone and resonance however it still looked and sounded great compared with other guitars around and under the same price range (£500) we had tried. My son is 16 and an intermediate level guitar player and found it comfortable and fun to play and it is a really good sounding guitar (particular at the lower end) especially when amplified. He particularly likes the neck profile of this Martin which is tapered and neither too far or too thin. A good value Martin that should last him years without the worry of the extra care you need to take with solid wood Martins so a good middle ground for us. Would recommend.Mr F. c.

I own over 50 guitars,….Gibsons, Fenders, Schecters, Deans,…….American, USA, Japanese, Korean,…..but the Jackson Pro King V is by far the best,….unfinished maple-thru neck,….upper-end Floyd American Seymore Duncan pickups, mahogany body,…..I bought mine new,….it arrived with 9's pretty much tuned to standard,….I put on some EVH 10's and set it up to Eb,…..best playing guitar,…sounds great,…..it stays in tune perfect when using the tremolo,…although I am going to put a trem stopper in in so it only goes down, Mine has the mahogany top with gold hardware white binding and white Duncans….it also came with black speed knobs,…I replaced the speed knobs with gold and silver Fender style knobs, and put a chrome toggle cap in place of the white one,….looks as awesome as it sounds and plays,….I also found mine new about half price from Proaudiostar,….it was packed well,….I may get the X series Rhoads with Duncan Blackouts as a back up,…in case I break a sting onstage.cj0326
