I'm an amplifier technician and have seen a good spread of guitar amplifiers. The Vox guitar amps that I've played have been consistently of good quality and the AC4TV is no exception. There is a lot to like about this amplifier. The controls are simple and self explanatory. The aesthetic look is fitting of a vintage lunch box amp. Most importantly however, the tones you can achieve with this amplifier are excellent. The clean tones have a crisp chime and high gain tones offer a sizzling high end break-up. As an added bonus, I find that moving between these tones is easily done from adjusting your guitar controls and attack rather than having to adjust the amp settings. I believe this would merit the AC4 as a touch sensitive amp. And what about the cons of this amplifier? My main concern with the AC4 is how hard the amplifier pushes the el84 power tube. Upon replacing the original failed el84, I found that the amplifier would drive my replacement el84s into a red glow on the screens. I feel this is asking the power tube to work harder than it should. These amplifiers do not have screen resistors which are fairly common on most tube amplifiers. From my experience the addition of this resistor helped both in a more natural break-up and added relief on the el84. My other minor complaint with this amplifier would probably be the speaker. The stock speaker is good, but there is room for improvement that most alnico speakers will likely be able to demonstrate. These amplifiers do conveniently offer and extension speaker out so you will be able to play this amp through other cabinets. To sum things up, I feel this amplifier competes well with its low wattage counterparts. The Vox has a good price and excellent tone. In my opinion the tone and control are a great deal better than the current low wattage Fender and Marshall amplifiers.nbrothergtr
For me personally this is a great size amp, easy to carry, load, etc. to gigs and has almost enough power behind it to work for any gig….unless I am playing at a big outdoor festival this amp works well for most of my gigs. I just played an outdoor event here in Vegas, 3 bands, and a large stage with 6 of us on it, and I had it up to about 8 on the level and with a little being added in my monitor up front I was good to go. Not a lot of options or features, such as reverb, but for me it works perfectly for what I expect out of such a small amp! Hope that helps!thomaskrojas
Great product works excellent some tricky soldering though. You will be soldering to back side of board which can be tough for a novice. Three settings you end up is position one is glassy clean, middle setting is original tone, and third setting a little more grit to the signal.tonymadden748

Just a great amp. I'm playing Blues on a MIM Player Series Fender Telecaster and it just sounds amazing. The amp is quiet enough to play at home, by balancing the controls on both amp and guitar, I can still push the tubes and get that great valve sound. Equally, if cranked it is very loud. Simply gives me the best of both worlds. The amp takes pedals well (I used a Blues Driver sometimes), but is amazing just left clean. It also look fantastic, and the build quality seems great. It's a bargain – for instance, cheaper and better for home use than the Blues Junior – and just gives me exactly the sound I was after. As this is a home amp I am glad that I didn't go for one of the larger AC series models – this amp does the lot.Reviewed by Kenny's Music custom
Hey. I bought this to add a real Vox amp to my tone arsenal. The red tolex makes this version of the amp quite attractive. Playing it new it has a very bright and brash character. Despite the 12" speaker and closed back cabinet, it does not have a very strong bass response. It certainly delivers the bright and chimey Voxy sound. The tone controls are sometimes not responsive across their full twist-in my use the treble knob did little to the sound until over halfway up. The gain control is helpful dialing in grit without making it too loud-but it never quite gets (using a Fender Strat and Tele) a classic Marshall style grind. The amp gives a very useful "Vox" sound but it (without pedals) is not super flexible. Though, it's cool to plug into an amp that has a distinct tonal personality-as opposed to trying to dial in a personality in a more "flexible" amp. A fun little amp.fiL!

When I ordered this amp I expected to change out the tubes for JJs because if recommendations in the reviews I read. The stock tubes in this particular amp didn't produce any rattle and also provided plenty of clarity and bass. I don't sense the need to change out the tubes. This amp has more head room than my 1×10 2013 '65 Princeton Reverb Reissue Amp and I'll say its louder. The Vox Ac10c1 doesn't have a footswitch input installed onto it, if you want to switch from reverb to gain you will have to do it by hand as youre playing. The gain is rich, its a decent factory built in, the gain effect on my 4×10 2003 Fender Concert Reverb Amp doesnt sound nearly this good, if you buy the newer Marshall 20 watt tube amp or their MG solid state series amps their gain effects have a thinner, more static sounding than gritty sound to them. Vox amps have that more lush grit sound, akin to the sound we hear in the songs Ripcord and Vegetable by Radiohead (though Thom Yorke uses a turbo rat pedal) Haven't tried the Ac10c1 with a drummer, setting the Ac10c1 on an amp stand to project the speaker upward or placing this amp on a table should work just fine. The portability and light 27 pound weight are a huge plus if you decide on taking this amp anywhere. With this amp in one hand and a guitar stand and your guitar in a case in the other hand- you will be able to comfortably enter to set up and exit to load up in single trips. I originally expected to change the amp handle out for a leather handle but this vinyl handle is pretty thick. While playing through this amp, you can really feel and hear the nuances of its tube sensitivity while strumming and if you dig in with a pick, you can go from soft to really loud. The touch sensitive dynamics have been well calibrated in this amp. Again, the only downside is the lack of a footswitch input to switch between the amps good sounding gain and so so digital (not analog spring) reverb channel, no one seems to mention this. Everyone has their own effects pedals and loopers and what they already like to use so it almost balances out. I must say I actually like the sound of the gain on this amp. Again Im glad I didnt settle for a solid state Marshall in this price range, or the latest 20 watt tube Marshall which both felt and sounded lesser quality to me. I was looking for a good sounding portable amp. Glad I ordered a Vox Ac10c1
The Ac-10not only looks the business but it has since real depth and warmth to its tone. Clean – it’s bright and has the chime you’d expect. Turn up the gain and your tone breaks up but still retains clarity. Having the gain wide open and master volume down means you can still have the saturated crunch but not disturb others . Perfect for home use but would not be out of place in a small pub gig. Takes pedals will and with a multi-fix like a GT 100, if you disable the amp sim and use like a conventional pedal board, you don’t lose any quality of the AC10’s natural tone. A masterful amp and it even smells nice with those tubes cooking.Mark R.
Ive been playing 35 years and this is probably the best all around practice amp ive ever heard. Pros- looks great, sounds very good, cleans thump and chime, distortion can wail. Its loud for its size. Seems built well. Have had no bad issues. Cons- clean isnt near as loud as w the gain cranked up. No reverb. In short if this amp was 50-100W and had reverb and an external speaker jack id never play another amp. Good job VOX.jjsrvfan

I just received the MV50 Clean, to be used as a backup to my Carvin Nomad guitar amp, and I carefully unpacked it because I assumed it was not going to be powerful enough. Well holy crap – I was wrong. Connected to the 1×12 Celestion Neo Creamback in my Carvin amp (8 ohm), it was loud. I set all controls at mid-point and the deep switch on and I was amazed. The tonal quality surprised as did the volume it kicked out. I then added an extension cabinet (with an 8 ohm Eminence 10" Alpha speaker) so I could load this little dynamo with 4 ohms, and, again, I was taken aback. Loud, yes, but also full sounding and clean. I cannot find any faults with it so far. Using it as a backup amp – sure. Using it as a main amp – it can do it! It is a keeper.
I'm running this through a 1×12 Bugera cab (which to my ear is a pretty neutral speaker, but sounds great). Unless your band plays way too loud this amp should give you enough volume for gigging (even at 25 watts through an 8 ohm speaker). Takes pedals well – all of my drive pedals sound great. The MV50 reacts like my tube amps with a boost pedal in front (Fulltone & Xotic). I really like the attenuator, and at home I play at 1/100 power with the volume at about noon. While this amp has a lot of clean headroom you will start to get some hair when you push it, but in a good way. It's the kind of sound where you can play clean by picking lightly but if you hit it hard you'll hear that you're on the edge of breakup. Not surprising for a Vox, this is not a mid-scooped Fender clean. Mids are present, but not pushed. It is a warm clean, not sterile or spikey at all to my ear. I've been playing this primarily with a Boss Fender reverb pedal and the tone really is glorious. I don't feel like I'm missing anything from my tube amps. Not a thing. I wish I'd had this thing years ago when I was throwing my back out moving 60lb tube amps to and from gigs. What I don't like. The unit feels very solid, seems like a quality piece of gear, but the mini chicken head knobs on the front feel cheap (a minor complaint). Mainly I don't like how much they have crammed on the back panel. You've got tiny switches for power, flat/deep, eco (shuts it off after 15 min. of non-use) and the attenuator, as well as headphone/line out & speaker out. Once you get a speaker cable plugged in it feels very cramped. I'd much rather that the power switch was on the front. Lastly, I wish I could get 50 watts @ 8 ohms, just for the headroom. This is giggable for me at 25 watts into 8 ohms & still gives you good headroom, but YMMV. I primarily use single coils. With hot humbuckers I don't know if you'd run out of clean headroom or not. So I'm keeping the DV Mark as a backup. The Vox has gone. Anyone looking to downsize should give one of these a listen. There is good to great tone in there, depending on your needs. Again – the 4 ohm load to get 50w is a bummer. But not everyone needs that much power. There is one con. I would've preferred a more "typical" power supply. That being said if you can find this amp on sale like I did at $189 at my local GC you'll get a great amp, nice package of sounds, and power enough for a small gig (The volume easily filled the GC store during a staff demonstration). I was originally going to get the Vox 10 practice amp, but this was more than twice that amp at less than twice the price, so the decision was easy. Easy to transport and store. Plus, of course, it has the "Vox" look which is a nice little extra.John
This is a great sounding small combo amp. The tube in the pre-amp gives the sound a liveliness that I don't get from my all-solid-state amps. The 8-inch speaker provides an impressive kick that sounds like a bigger cone. The on-board tones are really nice, and they are useful, not the far-out sounds that others offer that I'll never use. I like that I can get high-gain tones at reasonable volume levels, much easier than I can with my solid-state amps. And if I turn it up, I can rattle everything on the nearby bookshelves before I get near max volume; it is surprisingly loud. I bought this on Black Friday. This is a fantastic amp at this price point.

What a great sounding mini amp. I've had to use headphone mini amps for the last 15 years due to time constraints and location of practice area. I didn't want to use the precious practice time I had just to set up full size amp for only an hour or so and then return everything back to storage area. It was so much simpler and convenient just to plug a mini amp into my guitar, put on head set and play. Down side was always the quality of the mini amps I was using. I was getting them for around half of what a vox cost.. I always wanted a vox but they were expensive. After joining mf rewards club and making several purchases I bought my vox for about half price by applying my points to the purchase. I should have never waited. This vox is 10 times better than the cheaper brands. As soon as I opened the packaging and held it in my hand I could feel the quality. When I first plugged it in and started playing I got really upset. Not at the mini amp but at myself for waiting so long. I highly recommend buying this mini amp. Trust me. I have enjoyed playing with this headphone amp quite a bit. It is lightweight, has a lot of features for the price and is easy to use. The one set back I have experienced, is that the plug in jack does not lock in a position, it has loosened with use. I can reccomend this type of amp for anyone who wants to practice with volume and effects that should not disturb others. I will likely purchase other styles of this headphone amp in the future.
Cannot praise this device highly enough. It sounds great, and is ridiculously versatile for such a small device, comprising not only Gain, Tone and Volume controls, together with three levels each of effects options Chorus, Delay and Reverb, but also Clean, Crunch and Lead. Two AAA batteries are required (included), and give hours of usage. Just plug it into your guitar, attach headphones (decent pair of over-ear type are best, but don't need to be expensive) and, if wishing to practice over a track by your favourite band, simply attach an appropriate device such as a tablet or 'phone. If you require to free your amPlug2 sound from the confines of headphones, Vox also offer a mini, 2 watt, amPlug2 amp/speaker to which you attach your amPlug2 and play out loud (but not loud enough to annoy the neighbours. The wonderful Vox 50 watt amp/cab stack Mini Superbeetle Audio blue tooth speaker also doubles as a guitar amp, complete with amPlug2 compatibility, but at full volume, this would definitely annoy the next door neighbours, and possibly those further afield. The amPlug has given me new found freedom to play and practice without needing to wait for opportunities where it can be done without audibly intruding on the personal space of others in the household. I just received the MV50 Clean, to be used as a backup to my Carvin Nomad guitar amp, and I carefully unpacked it because I assumed it was not going to be powerful enough. Well holy crap – I was wrong. Connected to the 1×12 Celestion Neo Creamback in my Carvin amp (8 ohm), it was loud. I set all controls at mid-point and the deep switch on and I was amazed. The tonal quality surprised as did the volume it kicked out. I then added an extension cabinet (with an 8 ohm Eminence 10" Alpha speaker) so I could load this little dynamo with 4 ohms, and, again, I was taken aback. Loud, yes, but also full sounding and clean. I cannot find any faults with it so far. Using it as a backup amp – sure. Using it as a main amp – it can do it! It is a keeper.
I'm running this through a 1×12 Bugera cab (which to my ear is a pretty neutral speaker, but sounds great). Unless your band plays way too loud this amp should give you enough volume for gigging (even at 25 watts through an 8 ohm speaker). Takes pedals well – all of my drive pedals sound great. The MV50 reacts like my tube amps with a boost pedal in front (Fulltone & Xotic). I really like the attenuator, and at home I play at 1/100 power with the volume at about noon. While this amp has a lot of clean headroom you will start to get some hair when you push it, but in a good way. It's the kind of sound where you can play clean by picking lightly but if you hit it hard you'll hear that you're on the edge of breakup. Not surprising for a Vox, this is not a mid-scooped Fender clean. Mids are present, but not pushed. It is a warm clean, not sterile or spikey at all to my ear. I've been playing this primarily with a Boss Fender reverb pedal and the tone really is glorious. I don't feel like I'm missing anything from my tube amps. Not a thing. I wish I'd had this thing years ago when I was throwing my back out moving 60lb tube amps to and from gigs. What I don't like. The unit feels very solid, seems like a quality piece of gear, but the mini chicken head knobs on the front feel cheap (a minor complaint). Mainly I don't like how much they have crammed on the back panel. You've got tiny switches for power, flat/deep, eco (shuts it off after 15 min. of non-use) and the attenuator, as well as headphone/line out & speaker out. Once you get a speaker cable plugged in it feels very cramped. I'd much rather that the power switch was on the front. Lastly, I wish I could get 50 watts @ 8 ohms, just for the headroom. This is giggable for me at 25 watts into 8 ohms & still gives you good headroom, but YMMV. I primarily use single coils. With hot humbuckers I don't know if you'd run out of clean headroom or not. First – let me say that this is a good, tiny pedal-platform amp, if that's what you're looking for. It has a very good base clean tone and it takes pedals well. I think most players looking to downsize would find this usable. If all you need is a good clean tone – for jazz, say – take a listen to one of these. I find the 4 ohm thing a bummer. I don't own any 4 ohm cabs, and after thinking about jumping through hoops to get all 50w available to me, I decided it wasn't worth it. This amp sounds really good, but at the very least for clean headroom, anyone looking for a pedal platform usually wants to control where the edge of breakup is, or have it totally clean. Beyond that, there's just too much crammed onto the (very small) back of the amp. Tiny switches plus the speaker out jack just mean it's hard to find the on/off switch, etc. Put the power switch on the front so I don't have to hunt for it. After having the MV50 a while I decided to try a DV Mark Micro 50 – and I like it better than the Vox. It's more versatile with 3 band EQ, and I have a full 50w to play with. Overall I prefer the DV Mark – I just feel it suits my clean & light OD tones better than the Vox. But if I had to gig with the Vox I'd be OK with it. This amp is FUN. The sound quality is great, and it is packed full of amp models, effects, and pre programed drum loops. That combined with a 40 sec looper, and it's become the most effective practice tool I own. And it's so simple, I don't need a bunch of equipment, it's all in the amp. This amp has a great range of sounds, including some earthy grungey stuff, and weird vocoder setting. The most all-round versatility of this unit is a combination of the Rhythm section, the separate input and control of the Mic, and the Looper section. With up to 10W of output this unit can entertain more than just yourself. I like the tri-select of output power, (especially when the missus wants to watch tv!). The footswitch to select between effects, rhythm and looper is more essential rather than desirable, yet it cost me another $100+ to buy, which seems like a lot for just switch (although it's heavy duty). The only other downside is the rhythm tempo switch, which needs a guess in the time between button presses to alter timing. This would be better done and made more repeatable with a rotary switch. What a fantastic amplifier this is. Worth every penny. The High and Low power settings both give different sounds and are equally usable. For more gain I use a Korg Nu:Tekt Over Drive pedal, they go very well together. I use beyerdynamic DT770 Pro headphones with the cab sim output every day! Have not stopped playing this amp since it arrived and I would say to anyone looking for an amplifier like this that if they are in a position to do so, then buy it without hesitation. My Shergold guitar and my Gordon Smith guitar go so well with this amp- both guitars have Humbucker pick ups and definitely give me the kind of tone that I have been looking for since I first heard JoyDivision more than 40 years ago. The amp works well with my Gibson ES330 guitar too which has P90 pick ups and is sort of an upmarket Casino. If anyone knows the sounds of Bernard Sumner with both the Shergold Masquerader and the ES330 then this amp sounds a lot like his setup without the punishing volume of his Vox. I have also been able to get the Neil Young Cortez the Killer tone pretty convincingly too. No regret at all in buying this amplifier and if it breaks would buy another without hesitation. This thing is not only loud but the high and low ends sound so damn good. Especially if your signal is "all analog". No doubt the amp is incredible, the tubes are huge! Speaker is really good. I gotta say tho it is missing the warmth that something like a deluxe reverb, but hey its nit-picking at this level. Last amp you will ever need if you're a Vox fan. hear this amp on youtube and figured i would give it a shop. i had no always liked vox amps but didn't like the weight of the ac30 or the thin sound of the ac15. as i got better and better at playing the guitar and also playing in the band i had gone through almost every amp out there. i was always disappointed with each and everyone. lately i bought and performed with the supro dual tone and fell in love with it. great cleans and pretty good distortion! i was surfing through youtube and came across the ac30 s1 and thought that is interesting, one speaker and lighter weight. what took vox so long to come up with that idea. so i bought it and couldn't wait to get it home and try it. i can honestly say that i have never been been blown away initially by any amp i have bought. well, that all changed today! what an amp! i was blown away at the clean tone with beautiful bottom end and when i turned the gain knob up, holy cow, pure distortion heaven! so easy to dial in any tone on the fly! i even tried some pedals in from of it and again it sounded great. but, honestly i think it sounds best when it stands alone! maybe when you use accent pedals, like delay or chorus, pedals like that it shines also. overall i can't praise it enough! buy on and you'll see!JR
I found this amp to be a welcomed addition to the Vox line up. As expected, I really liked the 1×12 format for its reduction in weight. The simplicity of the controls also was a welcomed featured. The only thing I didn't care for was the speaker choice. Having it for several months, I thought that after breaking it in it might improve, but I just don't feel this particular speaker is a good choice for this amp. With that said though, you could easily swap it out for something you prefer. I'd still recommend the amp!Jason B.

Not only does this 5 watt lil' monster have enough power to rattle the windows, it also has class! At only 9 lbs. the Bugera T5 Infinium has enough "UMFF" to push your favorite 4X12" cabinet into the stratosphere! It's better having this reverb built into this lil' madman than not having any at all. Just like 9/10 of the other amp heads in its class. The 1 channel, "all tube" head has warm cleans. Push in the PHAT switch and crank the volume and gain and you get saturated distortion that will blow you away! All of that in a 9 lb metal cage like package for only $200! You won't find another 5 W head with all of that for this price. I love my T5 Infinium from Bugera!brmul-8207
What it's not: Not a $1k boutique tube amp. Not a mid-size club amp (unless you have great monitors and a good sound guy). What it is: A well designed, very affordable little monster that will give enough stage volume at 5W for rehearsals in a full rock band or small club, and will also allow you to drive the output stage at that 1W or 1/2W setting for recording at home. The amp sounds best at 5W and driven into either a 4ohm cabinet or two 8ohm cabs. If you use it to drive an 8ohm cab, you are getting only 70% of its potential. I only use el84 based amps. i love their dark, throaty sound, and while this amp doesn't have the punch or snap I get from my 15W custom built el 84 amps, it sounds great for rehearsal or recording. I am a little bit worried about long-term build quality. The input jack is plastic. I have a hard time seeing that surviving a year of rehearsals without breaking. This is a great supplemental amp for rehearsals and recording. Very smartly designed. Good feature set. And if you like the el84 style sound, it delivers it above expectations at this price range. In these days of small solid state, practice amps, this little amp gives you tube tone and more at a very affordable price. A 12ax7 preamp tube and an EL84 power tube provide the tone along with built in reverb, 2 band EQ, gain and a "phat" overdrive switch for added crunch. The three stage attenuator is a nice touch. The stock Bugera tubes are OK but I switched them out with Tung-Sols which provided a rich creamy overdrive more to my liking. Great sound when plugged into my Orange 8" or 12" cab plus headphone jack for late night playing. Great amp for the price!Isom

This Vox amp is my first introduction into the world of tube amps as they can be quite expensive! The quality for the price is right on point. Living in NYC, I’ve never had the space to keep a large amp in my apartment, so the size in my opinion is just right. This amp can get pretty loud, so don’t let the size fool you. I play guitar for a worship team so I use this both at home for practice and at church for live performances. I usually mic the cab when using it for performances. There aren’t any built in effects, so keep that in mind. From my experience, this amp takes pedals very well. I like the tone of a naturally overdriven amp, so I usually set the gain and volume right below breakup and use my pedals to push the amp. I highly recommend this, especially for being a genuine Vox Tube amp.
…this amp absolutely nails the classic Top Boost overdrive tone, just in a smaller package. I use this amp in church, and it's great in that role because it's loud enough that it allows me to hear what I play without needing a monitor (which reduces overall stage volume). I found the stock speaker to be serviceable, but there's plenty of room in the cabinet for a speaker upgrade, just be sure to do some measurements first. I upgraded to a Celestion G12H30, and due its wide magnet, I had to reposition the output transformer a couple of inches. Depending on how you want to use this amp, I would recommend replacing V1 with a lower gain tube (like a 5751 or 12AU7) if your intent is to turn it into a pedal platform (especially because there is no FX loop). This is a great little amp and has been my main gigging amp for the past couple years. It does a good job at keeping up with my band at smaller venues, but I usually mic it anyways. I would definitely recommend giving it a mic anywhere bigger than a small club, unless you play in a more mellow band. I've always been a fan of smaller, low wattage, tube amps with minimal controls and this definitely fits the bill. I wouldn't really recommend it for bedroom/apartment practicing because it's still pretty loud and it sounds best when you can really push it. It's definitely a very bright amp, maybe a little too bright with some guitars, but there's also mods you can do to it to change that. I plan on changing the speaker someday, just haven't gotten around to it yet and the speaker it comes with is decent enough, just a little stale in my opinion. It's a pretty rugged little amp, it has spent some good miles rattling around in the back of cars/vans/trailers and i haven't had any problems with it. The AC30CH is the AC30 only more so! The Vox Reactive Attenuator lives up to it's promise. Couple the head with the V212 Greenback-loaded cabinet and open the amp up, and even on 1/3 watt you get something incredibly close to Vox tones at bedroom levels, but still have the option of 3 watts (small club loud), and the full fat 30 watts (aircraft hanger loud!). The effects loop is also a welcome addition, and can be bypassed for those who prefer, and the head can be set of 8 or 16 ohms, so will work with other cabinets. Just amazing tones that can be dial from clean leads to warm crunch. The tone palettes covers most genres from blues, pop to rock. Pedal friendly (treble booster “wink”) I had it for months and been using it at church and had compliments about the sounds I’m getting with the Vox AC30. It has a Fx loop for time based effects, you can bypassed it if you wish to run your effects in front of amp and the best of all there is a switch on the back to attenuate volume and have bedroom levels and minimum stage noise, there is no noticeable loss of tone or use a reactive load for the same purpose. I’m really enjoying the AC15CH, it’s simple and straight forward and all of the features are really useable i.e the digital verb and tremolo. The attenuator is especially useful if you play either early morning or late at night to drop the amp down from 15 watts to a watt and a half. But I will also point out if you’re a big overdrive/ distortion pedal user, Vox amps might not be the best option for you, as their is an inherent chime to them that makes using pedal gain quite challenging to dial in, not impossible but just a bit of a hassle! So bear that in mind, if you’re thinking about picking one up. Overall I really like this amp and it’s a nice replacement for an old ac30 I’ve had forever that hasn’t been running right for a long time!MR A. J. K.

Selling my cool little ac4 1×12. i upgraded the speaker to a 25 watt alnico that is waaaaay better than the factory one that came in it. all tubes have upgraded (jan and pm tubes). this is a really cool fawn color that are hard to find. the amp plays perfectly and is in good shape. it has a few dings here and there and the grill cloth is just a tad loose (see picture, nothing major) but all of that just gives it character. i m playing my bigger amps these days more so time for someone else to enjoy this bad boy. be ready to sound like a miniature brian may.

This Vox amp is my first introduction into the world of tube amps as they can be quite expensive! The quality for the price is right on point. Living in NYC, I’ve never had the space to keep a large amp in my apartment, so the size in my opinion is just right. This amp can get pretty loud, so don’t let the size fool you. I play guitar for a worship team so I use this both at home for practice and at church for live performances. I usually mic the cab when using it for performances. There aren’t any built in effects, so keep that in mind. From my experience, this amp takes pedals very well. I like the tone of a naturally overdriven amp, so I usually set the gain and volume right below breakup and use my pedals to push the amp. I highly recommend this, especially for being a genuine Vox Tube amp.
…this amp absolutely nails the classic Top Boost overdrive tone, just in a smaller package. I use this amp in church, and it's great in that role because it's loud enough that it allows me to hear what I play without needing a monitor (which reduces overall stage volume). I found the stock speaker to be serviceable, but there's plenty of room in the cabinet for a speaker upgrade, just be sure to do some measurements first. I upgraded to a Celestion G12H30, and due its wide magnet, I had to reposition the output transformer a couple of inches. Depending on how you want to use this amp, I would recommend replacing V1 with a lower gain tube (like a 5751 or 12AU7) if your intent is to turn it into a pedal platform (especially because there is no FX loop). Outstanding clean amp, very close to it's bassman origins and certainly not the amp you want if you expect tons of gain from the amp itself. It's plenty loud for anything with the right cab and it takes drive pedals (Vintage LM306 Rat, TS, Fuzz Face, and more) better than many amps I've used. Really digging this module – the blue channel goes from classic rock to pretty heavy; the red channel has a ton of gain (get a noise gate if u play metal) and the string definition is still really good at higher gain settings. No scooping the mids here – the crushing diezel tone is in the mids on this moduleMO
Years ago when I went looking for a good tube amp whose distortion I liked for both rock and metal, I settled on an ENGL Invader 150 due to its versatility and lower price. (In retrospect I would probably have opted for the 100 if I did it over again, but I was new to tube amps at the time.) That said, when I asked the salesman at Chuck Levin's in D.C. what amp he liked best, he said the Diezel VH4 and demonstrated it for me right then. Had it not been for the price tag (even higher then), I would have taken his advice, but I kept it in mind and later found one used for something closer to what I I paid for the ENGL. After comparing them and all the other amps I've tried, I have to say the Diezel VH4 blows away every amp I've ever used for one simple reason: It just sounds good as is, without any tweaking. Set everything on the preamp to 12 and you're golden. I keep the "Deep" knob between 0 and 2 or 3 because it's got so much low end already adding too much in the master section can be overpowering when you're using 7 or 8 string guitars. But the low end isn't muddy like a lot of other amps–every note and chord is crystal clear. I do find channel 4's distortion to be a bit too noisy for my taste, and don't find it very useful when channel 3 already sounds great for rhythms or leads. With lighter or heavier strumming, setting channel 2 at the right level can give you a great mix of clean and dirty for different types of rock or punk. Also, I like the noise gate feature on the Invader, and wish the Diezel had one too. I am not a pedal board guy and like to keep my setup as minimal as possible. There are probably some other little features the ENGL and other amps have that the Diezel lacks, but they aren't so important to me. I do think the Diezel's control layout is much easier to distinguish visually than the ENGL. My only complaint is a slightly wider space between the EQ and the volume/gain knobs would make it even clearer.Jbob
One module I never even considered was the Diezel VH4. I (mistakenly) equated it to heavier genres. But when I received an email from Guitar Center about an extra 15% on trade ins, I grabbed some gear that I haven't used in years and traded it in. It was a toss up between the Diezel and Engl modules, but decided on the Diezel. I cannot believe how great this module is. The low end on this thing is tight and really sounds incredible through my 2×12 with a V30 and LynchBack in it. I was shocked how great it sounds. Of course I don't crank the gain, but it even sounds great with it cranked. I am both shocked and thrilled at how much I really love how a module, that I never thought about, sounds and fits my style so well. Just fantastic.lespauled
