The look is more flat than other typical guitars that have a high gloss finish. The internal pickups sounds as good through an amp as it does acoustic. The only draw back is it feels a little heavy compared to some other acoustic electrics I have played. That being said it is not so drastic that it would bother most players. I bought this on a Stupid Deal Of The Day at an insane price. It is my second Takamine. I love how it feels in my hands. The neck is perfect for my fingers. It plays really well. It sounds great acoustically or amplified. It's a beautiful guitar. I love it. The only minor thing was the action was set a little high for my taste. That has been rectified. Musicians Friend does it again with their service as well.

I purchased this G90 series Takamine hoping it would approach the quality of the Takamine Pro Series Models. I had played several Pro Series Models and they were a little too expensive for me at this time. I was hoping the G90 series might come close. I was excited about the promotional savings Musician's Friend extended and decided to take a chance. The guitar arrived and I felt the finish was very nice. In checking the frets, I found many were not finished and had sharp edges. They were also "low frets" and although that might be okay in some instances, the high action would make playing harder for a beginer and tedious for a seasoned pro. The action could not be easily lowered as the internal pickup system was attached to the bridge and, would require a technician pro to cut down the bridge. I will add a positive…the neck was perfectly straight and required no adjustment. Musicians friend understood and, without question, accepted the return. I am pleased with their service and will deal with them again. Takamine has a good reputation and I feel, if you are a pro…stick with the pro-series. Anything less will be a disappointment.CJK

Overall, I'd say that I'm very happy with the guitar. It plays well, and it sounds great. I had to tweak it a bit, though. It had a respectable amount of bow in the neck when I received it. I've torqued most of it out, but I have the truss rod tightened as far as I dare to. The action is still a bit high at the 12th fret, but I'll take care of that when I change out the strings. It sounds very chimey and bright with no bottom end at all, hopefully a beefier set of strings will help with that. Skinny frets, I wish they were a bit more robust. String spacing (between pairs) isn't consistent between the nut and the bridge, I may notch the bridge a bit to eliminate that. Otherwise, it's a beautifully built guitar and a great value for the price. You won't be disappointed.
I had a cheap 12 string guitar for about almost two years. I had been playing corridos during this time. However, I had played guitar for several years. Mainly rock and other stuff. Well, after I got it, I could play all the solos I couldn't really play clean. I guess the other guitar really was bad, or this one is great. Funny thing, I had a really good player tell me to not buy this model but the more expensive one. Well, I'm glad I decided to go with this one. This guitar sounds great and it's extremely easy to play. The guitar stays in tune fairly well for a 12 string guitar. The action is low. I haven't tried it the electronics aside from the tuner which works fairly well compared to my snark. I do have a Taylor and Martin guitar, and the tone on this guitar is pretty clean.Juan

This is a great price for a guitar of this quality, but thanks to another dealers daily deal and Guitar Center's price matching, it was even better. I was able to get this out of layaway for $240 less. I am very happy with this guitar. I have not played in a band for a while, but getting back into practice and plan to start back with some solo acoustic gigs. This is my first 'Cedar Top' acoustic guitar. I've always had various kinds of spruce on some very high end units with the exception of one mahogany top. I'd heard cedar was softer and not as lively as spruce. I would have to agree with that, but in a good way. The tone is nicely balanced over the entire spectrum with a very beautiful sustain quality that lends itself to excellent backup for vocals. I guess you could term it 'mellow' overall as it won't be a bluegrass pickers choice to really project like a Martin for instance. But once you've played it awhile, you will really appreciate the unique quality of it's sound. For the money invested, you just can't go wrong here. Got it today but instantly in love. I've owned many acoustics, jasmine, ibanez, savannah, yamaha, some off brand ones too. Visually beautiful but plain looking I got it in natural color, the neck is very flat good for resting your thumb, its also a bit thin, it works very well for fingerpicking. The cedar top projects really nicely, I have to say this sounds better than any of my other guitars. If I could sum it up in 1 word It plays and sounds like "Butter" its pretty bright, not too brassy/deep sounding like my okoume ibanez but it still resonates nicely. The pinless bridge is nice. I don't do bends or thing I use the guitar for celtic fingerpicking music. honestly glad I got this, i feel like it plays more like a guitar priced twice as highantman
Overall: IT's okay, it's a good looking well built guitar, it's just got a nasty sound to it. The fret board will stain your fingers with blue dye, WTF, that's a first. It does not sound like a Takamine guitar, I realize it's a 330.00 guitar mass produced but………..not impressed. I've written good to great reviews on guitars I have bought here with zZounds and is absulutley no reflection on them, I give them 5 stars all day long.

Now that I have the neck set-up & and my Martin Marquis strings are on it, I love it. I have another '77 model Tac that I've been using at my church for 10 years, and just love the quality, looks and sound of their guitars. This one is beautiful, the only thing, I would have changed so far is when using tuner, which is very accurate, amplification would be muted, which it does not do.Jim
This Takamine G51C Acoustic Electric Cutaway guitar is simply great. It has only taken me a short time to fall in love with playing it. With this, I replaced an old Takamine with the "Martin" style headstock, a Model G330 from the late 70's, which I have pass on to my daughter. She says that it is a family heirloom now, since she remembers me playing it for her since she was a small child. Funny, but I don't feel that old. Anyway, this new Takamine is great. it plays like a dream, the action is near perfect on it and only took a very minor adjustment to have it just the way I like it. It did come with a set of heavy guage strings on it and to be honest, I first thought I would not be able to play it for long at a time, but I changed these stock strings for a set of D'Addario light guage strings, and it now feels and plays fine. Extremely well made with quality woods (no laminates) that has a great sound (both amplified and unplugged). It does not have a large body and projection is somewhat limited when playing unplugged but has incredible sound both amplified and not amplified. Can be played quietly when everyone else has gone to sleep, or can flood the house with music if they're awake. The action and intonation on this guitar was fabulous right out of the box and I didn't have to make any setup adjustments. This is an awesome guitar and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nylon string acoustic.John

Then, a couple of months ago, needing a brain break, I left work and took myself to the acoustic room at Sam Ash. There was another guy in there playing, so I looked for a quiet instrument, and took this one down off the wall. Immediately, I knew that it was special. The clarity of the tone, and the richness of the bass, it was all there. The other guy liked the sound too, and soon we were jamming and telling stories. Both of us tried other neoclassical guitars, and agreed that this one was best. I loved the guitar at first note, but when I looked at the price tag, I knew I could never own it. So I bought (online) a similar guitar, but it lacked the feel and sound of this one. My wife heard me playing, asked what I thought about the similar guitar I'd bought, and I explained that it wasn't the same. Then she told me to buy this one. So I did, And I have been playing it daily since then. The OO-18 is still with me and still gets some time, but right now my fingers itch to play and hear this one. Overall, I'd say that I'm very happy with the guitar. It plays well, and it sounds great. I had to tweak it a bit, though. It had a respectable amount of bow in the neck when I received it. I've torqued most of it out, but I have the truss rod tightened as far as I dare to. The action is still a bit high at the 12th fret, but I'll take care of that when I change out the strings. It sounds very chimey and bright with no bottom end at all, hopefully a beefier set of strings will help with that. Skinny frets, I wish they were a bit more robust. String spacing (between pairs) isn't consistent between the nut and the bridge, I may notch the bridge a bit to eliminate that. Otherwise, it's a beautifully built guitar and a great value for the price. You won't be disappointed.
I had a cheap 12 string guitar for about almost two years. I had been playing corridos during this time. However, I had played guitar for several years. Mainly rock and other stuff. Well, after I got it, I could play all the solos I couldn't really play clean. I guess the other guitar really was bad, or this one is great. Funny thing, I had a really good player tell me to not buy this model but the more expensive one. Well, I'm glad I decided to go with this one. This guitar sounds great and it's extremely easy to play. The guitar stays in tune fairly well for a 12 string guitar. The action is low. I haven't tried it the electronics aside from the tuner which works fairly well compared to my snark. I do have a Taylor and Martin guitar, and the tone on this guitar is pretty clean.Juan
This Guitar plays like a dream, sounds great no matter if it is plugged in or not, stays in tune and looks great. This is a great price for a guitar of this quality, but thanks to another dealers daily deal and Guitar Center's price matching, it was even better. I was able to get this out of layaway for $240 less. I am very happy with this guitar. I have not played in a band for a while, but getting back into practice and plan to start back with some solo acoustic gigs. Having this awesome new guitar is surely an inspiration to help me want to practice more.Kip

When I'm sitting at home, my go to guitar is my Martin 000-28. If that guitar is not in my hands then I have my gn75ce in my lap. This guitar was playable and set up well right out of the box. Good enough that it's not worth the money to take to luthier to have it dialed in. I don't use the electronics on this guitar so I can't comment on that. As far as everything else , this is a well-constructed durable mid-range priced guitar. I'm quite pleased that I purchased it. it makes a wonderful addition my collection. It's a beautiful looking axe. I have only been playing guitar for about a year and a half. I have had this guitar for 9 months. I think the sound is very full and rich. It does have a small amount of fret buzz. I am a small woman, so the size is a little large and cumbersome. I like it overall. I have a smaller guitar now but the sound is not as good as this one. And just like the other review, it was ready to play right out of the box. I need to do a wee bit of tuning, but I expected that. What sold me on this guitar was that it was a Tak, the price was an absolute steal for the superb quality and sound (someone at Guitar Center was asleep at the wheel on this one, but don't tell anyone), and a couple reviews on YouTube. I bought this guitar about 7 years ago and haven't played anything that I like better. It tunes easy, plays good with very low strings, and holds tune for weeks. I play the crap out of it and rarely have to tune it with Elixir strings. I play two or three gigs a month and have only had trouble with the DSP electronics. They are great when it comes to features, but they shot themselves in the foot when they converted the 9 volt system to two AAs. They last about 6 hours and crap out (Energizer, Duracell, rechargeable, doesn't matter). Also, when using a Boss pedal tuner in line, the pedal tuner has trouble picking up the output and refuses to ever pick up the drop D tuning on the low E string. May be the guitar, may be the tuner. I also have the matching JJ signature 12 string that is an exact copy of the 6 string. I love this guitar as well. If you order it, don't order the DSP. You'll love the guitar, but hate the electronics.4x4Dually

Was looking for a moderately priced guitar to be able to take anywhere and not have a heart attack whenever someone got near it. I've looked at alot of guitars in the 6-800.00 range and this one fit the bill in every way. Sound is great. Action is good and it's a pretty guitar. Service at the store was great and the salesman was very attentive to my needs.PAUL
