I was looking around for acoustic bass strings for my Sky Acoustic Electric bass. I was given long scale strings for a medium scale bass and so on. I finally found this set of Fender medium scale strings. Needless to say for the price of this set I was greatly surprised at how well this set sounded on my bass. They feel good and they definitely have a very good tone to them. My wife even made a comment about how well my bass sounded. Takes a lot to get that kind or response from her. I once used D'Addarios for practice and gigs, then tried the Ernie Ball kind: these have a deeper bottom while having a comparable midrange presence. They're great for rock and roll gigs. The highs have a nice snap to them. Nickel strings are easier on the fingertips than stainless steel, plus the Slinkys last longer than Rotosounds. Genial für NS Design NXT
I was disappointed with the sound of the stock strings (NS Design Contemporary) that we're stock on my NS Design NXTa double bass, especially the E string which was particularly twangy. I called NS Design about another issue and mentioned the sound. The person with whom I spoke confirmed my belief that the Traditional strings sound closer to an acoustic bass. He even said he believes NS should ship the NXTa with the Traditionals instead of the Contemporary. Hence, I decided to purchase these strings, although I was not happy about the added expense after buying my bass. The strings are stiffer, thicker, and have less sustain (just like an acoustic upright), so they are a little harder to play than the Contemporary strings. This might be why NS ships the NXTa with the Contemporary strings. But if you want to get closer to an upright, these are your strings! Note: At the time of this writing (11/2017), the 4-pack of these strings is on back-order, BUT the individual E, A, D, and G strings are in stock AND the total for the four individual strings is slightly LESS than the four pack. I cancelled my 4-pack order and ordered the individual strings, which arrived today.Courtney

Better than expected. Solid tone. Easy to play. Just right. Not too bright, just clean and tight, as a well made set should sound. Lows still great, even at the slightly lighter gauge. Don't get me wrong, they can get plenty bright if you want that. Just that they didn't seem as extra bright as some kinds try to be because they can with all the "super nano ultra special coated infused …but still hand crafted somehow" type stuff. Was never happy with previous sets on my 5 string. With these, I was able to set up with slightly lower action. This alone is worth it on my instrument. Finally, it's the bass it should've always been. Waited way too long to find these. I hope they keep making them. Probably going to order a few extra sets and try to keep a few on hand. As others point out, I'm not sure there's another set with these gauges for 5 strings. To me these are just right in a lot of ways.Person
Overall: Don't pay any attention to the low price these are great strings. Have used Fender 7250's on all kinds of bass guitars they always sound great and feel good. Been using the 8250-5M set for awhile. Wanted to try a lighter gauge. I get more guitar tones out of these. I was concerned I might overpower them since I'd used medium gauge for a couple of years. These are literally perfect on my Modern Player Jazz Bass V and 2 1993 Jazz Plus Vs. I bought the Modern Player new from Musiciansfriend. I think this light set is the set that it had on it. I use a pick, single and double thumb as well as two finger picking techniques. The E and B strings give a nice low end. The A, D and G strings have a growl and bright tone and respond well to picking or plucking. I'll be using these strings for some timegeorgesguitars

Nice, lightweight strings with a good feel and excellent durability. The Slinky series give a great bright sound to the player, which is great for overall sound of the instrument. This lighter gauge I recommend for some of my beginner and/or younger students, especially while developing grip and finger strength. Postage from Artist was of course, super fast. Service is generally excellent, and while I have had some issues with their own brand products in the past, they've always played straight and fairly.

These are installed on a Gretsch short scale. They have a great smooth feel, tension with balanced volume and warm sound. They don't rattle with loose tension like most shortscale strings. I'm just sorry I didn't try the Rotosound Trubass decades ago. I finally ordered them from Strings and Beyond and l will be ordering more for my other basses. As far as Rotosounds claim to emulate an upright l will say they give you a rich warm sound usable in a lot of musical styles. When installing these strings you may have to widen the nut slots so the strings will not bind and allow them to sit correctly. Very, very comfortable strings to play. I have only had these strings on for about a week, so I cannot attest to their longevity. However, right out of the package, they have had an excellent upright like tone that is perfect for the types of roots music I like to play. I like to play with a slightly high action and these strings seem to be made for that. I have not experienced any of the hum sometimes associated with tapewound strings. My pickups are kind of bright, and these strings helped balance my tone with their darkness. Overall, I am very satisfied and would recommend them to anyone who likes to play country/blues/americana type music.Kris
This is my second set of Monel flats, but my first encounter with their short-scale set. I put them on my EB-0. As others have mentioned (and maybe this doesn't apply to your bass), the silk wrapping at the knob end extends over the place the string touches the bridge. It requires scraping part of the silk away so you can get a metal-touching metal. Again, this may not matter to you; the EB-0, however, produces a mellow tone already and anything that softens that tone (like the wrapping) makes it more difficult to tease even a little crunch out of the instrument. Not a big deal, but an unnecessary step for me to have to do this when it would be a simple matter to use less silk at the factory and give us ready to use strings out of the bag. Other than that, I like Monel strings — they are strong and reliable — and would buy them again to put on a standard scale bass.Offhis Rocker
