This pedal is an industry standard and used by countless professionals live and in the studio. It enables me to practice at home w/the full potential of my guitar's volume, pedals and amp. My amp volume can be to a place where it's working better and can accept the full volume of my guitar. The volume pedal is a go-between that makes it happen at reasonable home volumes in my studio. Pedal steel effects are achieved as are tremolo. It doesn't get in the way or degrade the guitar's tone as other active pedals tend to. It takes practice to get swells sounding good and accurate. At times I find myself needing to increase or back off subtly and that takes practice to hit it right every time. The other issue w/mine is that I'd like it to sometimes be less resistant to foot/leg pressure but there are clear reasons for this (it doesn't move or drift once set). All in all I'm very satisfied w/adding this to my tool belt.trumpetter333
I purchased this Ernie Ball VP JR from Musicians Friend (Guitar Center actually), it is a used pedal, but by the looks of it to me it looked new. No marks on it and very little dust. I believe this pedal will be perfect to use with my new pedal steel guitar. It is more low profile than others I've had. Pedal is smooth from no volume to full volume position. The only thing it didnt have was the little rubber feet on bottom of pedal, but I had a cheap pedal that I was gonna trash anyway, so I pulled the rubber feet off of it and installed them on my Ernie Ball pedal. Problem solved. Hope to get years of use out of it.John
I'm not Experienced but not Novice, just for openers. Somewhere in between. The pedal is nice, it's smooth, it's responsive. One of the sweep settings seemed to have a large amount of drop off at the bottoms of the pedals travel. My biggest issue with it (maybe ANY volume pedal) is I couldn't set a 'bottom' that could serve as my normal or home base setting. As such, it's simply too distracting at the end of a solo or lead section to find the volume I want to return to. I think a pedal like this should have either a digital home setting, or maybe you stomp hard and it returns to home at the bottom, or a clear detent for a home setting. Initially intended to buy an Xotic EP Booster because I wanted to try the Echoplex thing out, but saw this little guy and figured…why not? I like it so much, I don't see the point in ordering the EP Booster anymore! Hits the front end of my Soldano in a way no overdrive has yet, and with no noise. Works equally well in front of my OCD pedal for a lead boost. And to all the people whining about the switch not clicking…whatever. This pedal does exactly what it claims and does it better than other pedals of the same purpose. It is constructed extremely well. For around $50 this pedal's physical casing and switch assembly is made better than pedals I own costing hundreds of dollars more. I don't foresee this pedal ever needing replacement or repair. I'm not particularly fond of the "momentary volume boost" feature but that doesn't change my overall opinion. It's a great item.ethan1957

Years ago, I had the Tremonti wah, with the diamond plate on the pedal. It was a Morley. I've tried various crybabies since then, but never got a wah sound as good. I love how thick it sounds, giving life to rhythmic palm mutes. It just sings for leads too. The switchless design is fantastic. You'll find yourself using it just for quick stabs and accents. The wah/vol switch is conveniently placed and the red led is a nice feature. I have other volume pedals which are much bigger and do not offer 'WAH' pedal capability. This Morley MINI is quiet and responsive. The volume adjustment makes it much more versatile, especially when transitioning on the fly during a performance. Not had it for more than 30-45 days and used 3-4 times plus some practice time…I did review the online consumer guide from the company/owner about adjustment screws. I'm running through an inexpensive Marshall 30-watt solid state amp. Using a variety of guitars into the EHX volume pedal directly to the amp introduces a noticeable hiss that becomes very pronounced in the middle of the sweep. That said, when I run the EHX into a Pignose the hiss is nearly non-existent. Running a keyboard through the EHX into the Marshall works fine with no hiss. Must be something odd in my setup somewhere. Doesn't really accomplish what I'm looking for anyway, I think I'm looking for something more like a boost pedal. Seems to be a well-constructed pedal, works fine in some applications, just not through my particular guitar setup. I'm a metal guy at heart, so when I finally put the Metal Zone away and started building a grownup pedal board, a Tube Screamer was high on my list. I was particularly interested in this unit because of the size, since my beginner board probably isn't going to be very big. I plugged this little guy into my regular setup and was immediately blown away. If you've played some metal you know the setup: straight into a high gain amp, drive at 0, level at 10, and tone dialed in to taste. It made my Orange Micro Dark Terror, digital Bias FX rig, and even my sad old Marshall solid state roar, but in a much more defined way that never felt flabby or uncontrollable. I would recommend pairing it with a decent noise gate to trim down the hum, but that's just what electric guitars do when you crank the gain, and not a flaw of this pedal in particular. Okay, sure, it can do metal. I've also run this unit through a bunch of other setups and contexts. Through my Orange I definitely got very usable blues and classic rock tones by pulling the gain and volume back on the amp, and setting everything on the pedal around half way. I can even see potentially using it with the drive all the way up as a lead boost or to slightly break up a clean tone. This little thing is a beast for sure, and is pretty much perfect for my uses. It's not a transform your amp kind of effect, it's meant to compliment what your existing equipment already does. It has some specific things it does well, and it *really* nails them. #sweepstakesDan
Stop what you're doing right now. RIGHT NOW, and get this pedal. This tiny little monster sounds incredible and I am kicking myself for not trying any kind of Tube Screamer for my 20+ years of playing guitar. This literally sounds like a tube amp in a box. You can dial in the perfect amount of boost or drive without really impacting your guitar's true tone. If you push it all the way, it's almost in distortion territory, yet it retains warmth and picking dynamics…on the other hand it compresses nicely – like a tube amp. How does it do that? It's magic. I got this mini version because I'm building a mini pedal board, so it fits perfectly. Don't let the size fool you though, because it sounds incredible. The only drawback is that it needs an external power supply. Oh, and as an added bonus, this is made in Japan, and it shows. The switches, knobs, and inputs feel very high-quality. I collect Tube Screamers, and decided to get this for the collection. Soundwise, it works as a TS808; great transparent overdrive for stand-alone use but excels at boosting gain on an overdriven amp. Not as harsh or "dark" as a TS9, and a decent price. Definitely a TS to consider if you're trying to save some money; you definitely won't be missing out on the sound of the TS808. Also great if you want to add a Tube Screamer to a board, but need to save space. The only negative I can say is the Level and Tone knobs are difficult to see for settings, but that's true with most mini pedals. It doesn't take a battery, but there again, neither do most mini pedals. Construction is more solid than the Mooer Green Mile, and the TSMini is made in Japan (thought for sure it was Chinese). The price is great on these, but I'd also consider checking out the East River Overdrive by EHX; my current favorite Tube Screamer clone. As far as the Ibanez Tube Screamer line-up, this is seemingly the best value.Dave

Having gone back and forth between digital / emulated effects and analog / practical effects, I decided to add a Small Clone to my pedalboard. If I had one complaint about the unit, it would be that it has a switch for two different depth settings instead of an adjustment pot. That said, when I plugged in I found that of the two settings available for depth there is one that suits me just fine. The pedal is very quiet, and does not color my tone in any way. True bypass is always an added benefit. Electro Harmonix builds these pedals to last, and I canβt see myself ever moving to another chorus pedal from this one. Iβm in love. The Small Clone gives an awesome chorus effect to your sound! I always wanted that full warm grunge sound and so I figured why not put that icing on that cake and get the gear the legend himself used. As a solo acoustic finger style player, I was looking for a very subtle effect to enhance instrumental parts. I've owned other choruses in the past, and was skeptical at its rather large size and single control knob–and only a depth switch. I was pleasantly surprised. I run depth on high, the control knob on low, and get a nice fat–but subtle-melodic sound from my Martin. I haven't experimented with it much, since I'm so pleased with this setting. Good value, well made-though perhaps rather 20th century style–and USA made. Just what I wanted for a slightly different sound to bounce between my vocal parts and instrumental/lead parts. The foot switch is loud, but not enough to affect my performance. All in all, very pleased.2 birds

Overall: I've had the big Ernie Ball VP for years however I recently decided to downsize my board and decided to try the smaller DVP4 to save space. Wow, this thing is TINY! The size difference does take some getting used to.One important thing to mention, the Aux out can NOT be used as an always on tuner out. Its function is solely to be used if you're going to hook it up as an expression pedal instead of a volume pedal.Unfortunately the sweep isn't as smooth as the Ernie Ball. Starting from the heal down position (volume at 0) the first 15-20% of the sweep doesn't do anything. Then all the sudden the volume comes like you just flipped a toggle switch. So volume swells aren't the smoothest thing since the sound all the sudden hits when you're almost at 1/3 volume. But it's usable once you get used to that nuance.Overall I'm satisfied with it for now however I may explore other mini volume pedal offerings in the near future to see if they have a smoother more consistent sweep.
If using a volume pedal is a big part of your sound, I don't know if this is for you. If you're that person, then you probably already know the big volume pedal you want and should just get that one. For the rest of us, who use volume and expression pedals sparingly, this thing is really great. It doesn't take up a ton of space on your board and even though it is small, it actually feels natural rocking it back and forth. I use it as an expression pedal for my HX Stomp, and it works amazingly for volume swells, wah-wah and the occasional whammy when I feel like arming the homeless.BoDean

this expression pedal has a good price quality ratio. I am using it to control a Roland XP-50 that I use either as main sound source or for MIDI controlling. It is fine for studio but I dont recommend for stage use. For live applications you may want to consider more robust equipment (that is also a lot more expensive).
Cheap, robust, solid, works without any problem. Purchase was a bit risky if it will work for Studiologic Numa Organ 2, as no good description which pedals will work for this keyboard, so that why this cheap pedal was chosen. As one can understand, it is working well with Studiologic.

Still the best. Price increased only by $10 since inflation hit the pedal market, so not too bad. Tried many others. Still my go-to pedal. Heavy, fits my foot nicely. Not to small or large. I needed a pedal to help me get my volume right at shows….Using the gtr volume control and or a volume pedal in front of my pedal board just changes the drive into the FX. I get everything nicely balanced in the studio or at home, and then each venue has odd sound characteristics and sometimes I am too loud in my rhythm and too soft in my leads & no time to get everything adjusted just right. So I wanted a simple master volume pedal after all the FX and before the amp…(did not want to hassle with more cables needed for the FX loop). I have tried them all…none worked well for me….Well, here is what I learned: This pedal has a min volume control which allows more accurate setting of the pedal to the volume I need mid-song. This control was key, allowed me to zero in on the volume easily as small changes in the pedal position did not produce huge changes in volume. The pedal does not cut the quality, at least not in noisy bars and restaurants. So it's very good. But the real point is after years of not doing the volume thing well with my right foot I discovered that I was much better at the task using my left foot…and I am right handed!! This has changed everything. Turns out, the issue was my right leg is way sturdier to stand on and control the volume with my left foot. If you have a problem with this type of thing, just try your other foot. The pedal and this simple foot change basically solved the issue. Our keyboard player also plays steel guitar. We built a stand that integrates with the keyboard, so she can switch between keyboard and steel very quickly. We now own two of these volume controls. The first one is mounted to the effects pedal attached to our keyboard. The other is a spare. We use channel 1 for keyboard volume control and channel 2 for steel guitar volume control. It saves us from cluttering our board with two pedals. I wish we could run stereo keyboard, but we forgo that for practicality. We like the overall feel of the FV-500L Stereo Volume Pedal. The title says it all – very nice warm analogue tremolo tones. The wave shape control is useful and usable – but I would especially recommend it for the triangle wave shape (if you plan on just using the choppy square wave form, there are probably better, but also more expensive options – such as the EQD Hummingbird). At the moderate speed and depth settings that I use there has been no need to compensate for perceived volume loss, but it is nice to know the volume trim pot is there should I need it). The pedal is very well built, the mini potentiometers are small but feel solid and robust. The pedal is good value for money, I would buy it again without hesitation.sthump_7
Like all the other Ibanez mini pedals I've used so far (I have three on my board right now!), this sounds superb, and has super-usable controls with a nice wide range of usable sounds. Having true bypass switching makes it immediately preferable to the Boss TR-2 it's replaced on my board, and it can get a wider range of sounds as well as getting the same smooth tremolo I liked about the Boss. My only minor criticism of these pedals is that despite the small cases, the jack sockets actually protrude quite a long way from the body of the pedal, so they still take up a lot more width than (for instance) the MXR mini pedals. I'd happily have smaller sockets and a wider pedal body given the choice – spacing on my board is limited by the size of my foot anyway! Overall though, fantastic little pedals. Would recommend! π

This is a great volume pedal, the mechanical action is very smooth with adjustable tension. The taper response is good and adjustable though I found it fine straight out the box on the default setting. Being potless, as it is using a magnetic field to control volume level and has a built in pre-amp, it does not suck tone. I did a compare with the pedal in circuit vs straight from the guitar into the amp and could hear no discernable difference in the tonal response. I bought the mono 90 version of the pedal as I will use it with pedal steel guitar which requires the jacks to be on the right hand side of the pedal as opposed to having them on the front. Volume pedals dedicated to pedal steel guitar use are generally very expensive for what they are, this pedal came in at well below the cheapest comparable pedal steel pedal and functions just as well imho. Another positive feature is that it works with a standard 9v power supply, so can be powered from an existing pedal power supply. I believe it uses a voltage multiplier in the circuit to boost the 9v up to higher voltage which increases the headroom response. Het pedaal kleurt het geluid -ook bij minimaal volume- niet. Je kan dus ook (clean) spelen met je 100W buizen versterker op slaapkamer niveau! Met de Boost kan je je versterker op maat vervormen. Door de minimale volume instelling kan je de precisie vergroten als je het pedaal alleen als volume fijn-afstemming gebruikt (en de 0 dus niet nodig hebt). De kleur is verschrikkelijk! π

Love this pedal for its weight. 4LB means it will stay in place. Nice metal chassis all around and it screams quality built-wise. It has an active switch option but I only use this pedal as a standard passive volume option for swells. However, it's always great to have that buffer if you want to switch pedal placement in your pedal chain, so I'm looking forward to experiment with that more.Abraham

This is the dunlop volume x pedali added space grip tape for aesthetics and functionality. i also substituted the original soft pads underneath the heel section for rubber pads to prevent metal contact (volume still reaches 0 when heel is down, so no worries on that). the velcro is glued on and there is a small piece from the bottom plate cracked off. despite that, it is still a great functional pedal with adjustable resistance.

So, one of the "features" of this pedal ended up being its Achilles heel. Out of the box the rocker pedal was extremely floppy. I *very slightly* tightened the adjustment screw to increase pedal tension just a little, just like the instructions say. Turns out this was a bad idea because after literally 20 or so sweeps, the low-friction band broke and the pedal got stuck in the no-volume position. (The grub screw protruding from the rocker arm jammed against the base.) No abuse or excessive force, just regular volume swells and it busted. Hard to believe how easily this could happen with gentle use. I would NOT trust this pedal in gigging situations, even set at factory tension. Very happy now with the Ernie Ball VP JR, which costs less, BTW.TJPenitencia
In need of a new Volume Pedal I had purchased Dunlop's DVP-1 about 1 year ago, but while I loved the top-knotch build quality, adjustable tension, Steel-Band Drive (compared to other Volume Pedal usage of STRING and other non-hardened material) and Aluminium Casing… it's overall size (and to a lesser degree, weight) was too large for my Pedalboard no matter how I shifted effects around to try and make room for it. And so it sat in its box while I continued to use my old-school Dunlop GCB-80 Volume Pedal that over the gigging years had done well but was showing its age… Until I received notice that Dunlop had released the DVP3(X), a new, smaller footprint & lighter weight version of the DVP-1 while adding the ability to function as an Expression Pedal for so-equipped Effects and gear. Trying one out it person, it had the same Steel-Band Drive and heavy duty casing, Adjustable Tension and overall "feel" underfoot that had drawn me to its "Bigger Brother". As I hadn't used my original DVP-1 for even practices Musician's Friend was kind enough to take it as a return/exchange for the DVP3(X), which made the "upgrade" to the DVP3 an extremely minimal amount. The only "negative" issue I could find is that the DVP3 comes in an all-black finish, while the DVP-1 has a "Natural Aluminium Silver" – it would be nice to offer either pedal in both colors. But that's an extremely minor issue. I imagine it will be a long time until I need to upgrade my Volume Pedal again, but I *am* considering another DVP3(X) set up in its "Expression Pedal" mode to use with my SWR Mini Mo' Preamp for manual control of the Filter Sweep setting on its Envelope Filter. A fantastic pedal at a killer price considering all of its features.
I purchased this to work as an expression pedal for the Line 6 HX effects. It works straight out of the box, It connect with as TRS jack (a ΒΌ inch jack with Tip, Ring, Sleeve). It works perfectly and has opened up more features on the line 6.
