This was the first guitar I ever bought with my own money. It's a tad bit heavy, so you might want to get a padded strap. It's surprisingly comfortable when you sit down to play it. This beauty can handle any tuning you give it, but if you continue to go lower, then it tends to slip out of tune sometimes. The stock pickups aren't the best, but they get the job done. I recommend upgrading to Seymour Duncan Hot Rods or Blackouts, then this thing really shows you what it can do. One big problem is that you need to be careful when moving it. It's a V-body, so your bound to put at least one chip in it. Overall, I love this guitar and I play it more than my ESP or my Fender. If you're willing to upgrade it, don't hesitate to buy it.
best guitar I've ever had. takes time to adjust to the body style but after you have any other guitar than this style it feels insufficient. the strings are close to the fret which is great if you slide up an down between frets a lot, the strings are d'addario which are kinda cheaply, but they last long and are great after you break them in a bit. I prefer playing this guitar over any epiphone or whatever. might wanna get a hardshell case if travelling, probably find a bass case cheaper than the actually case which is kinda costly.Oxide

I purchased this Dean ML based on my appreciation for Dime and simply because teenage me committed to owning one someday. I found a pic that I took with Dime which reminded me of being in the front row watching him jam away on his Dime Slime years ago. For me, this purchase was primarily motivated by nostalgia, expecting build quality to be sort of, ok. I have to say, this guitar exceeded my expectations. Slight disclaimer: I purchased this item knowing I would immediately upgrade most of the hardware and adjust things to make it more comfortable for my playing. 1) It is a fantastic base instrument. It plays fairly well as sold. This was my first experience with a Floyd Rose Special. Also, it will definitely be my last. I played it stock for about 2 weeks to get a good feel for it before changing anything. It’s a great playing guitar. 2) Every review I saw said that the finish was amazing and pictures just couldn’t do it justice. I agree. They did a great job on the neck and body of this guitar. It’s flawless. 3) Everything was to spec on mine. Action, truss rod, intonation, fret, bridge and pickup height, all perfect. My fretboard had a somewhat excessive amount of dye on it but nothing too crazy. The nut on mine was clearly cut too deep leaving the high e in permanent sitar mode with fret buzz. So, quality control could be an issue. For my needs this wasn’t a problem as I had already decided on replacing virtually all hardware with new parts that I had on hand from a project that I decided not to restore. 4) The pickups sound great. The Dime Slime nailed the Pantera tones, not surprising. I was surprised by the classic/southern rock and soloist tones I was able to get with minor eq adjustments. Clear and warm through the drive/distortion. It does jazz and country pretty well too. It has a very balanced sound to it which I was not expecting. I’ve played it on three different amps with the same results. Great. This is a great buy. A solid guitar as is. However, in my case, this guitar didn’t really come to life until I did what I did: OFR Hot Rod, brass block,springs, some shielding, etc. Now, what really irritates me is that it plays a lot better than a few of my guitars that were either at or almost double the cost of the Dime Slime. Overall: I'm no stranger to the scratch and dent game. I think half the fun is trying to figure out where the scratch and or dent is. When this model V came out I already knew that it would be a great guitar. Never played a Dean I didn't like. This model is a steal even at full price. Mahogony body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, Floyd and hot pickups. Actually, very hot pickups. My guitar has a bright sizzle to it in the bridge pickup and the neck pickup sounds great. Pretty balanced out put. The bridge is a Floyd Rose Lic. Stays in tune well. The fretboard is high quality. No fretsprout to speak of. Intonation is good, stays in tune and no high frets to speak of. The profile is the C shape. Similar to a 50s Lp just a tad thinner. The flat black finish is awesome the blem is only a slight discoloration on a portion of the binding. What that tells me is that the regular price model will be no doubt flawless. If you want that grind, metal, searing flamethrower sound the bolt on is the way to go. Bolt on necks are usually a little brighter. Sustains very well. I'm very very happy with it. It is exactly what it is advertised as. Buy one. You'll love it. Getting the ML X Floyd next. No doubt due to my own preference I will be swapping out the bridge pickup only. All my main guitars have Seymour Duncan TB and SH 6 bridge pickups. Great guitar for nodding to tour own preferences. You'd be doing killer as is too. I'm in no hurry to swap pickups. Great buy.
Not a V type of player. I like Wilco, the Pixies, the Smiths, Stone Roses, Courtney Barnett, etc. So when I saw Ryan Adams rocking a V by that other manufacturer that starts with G, I started thinking about the V body style. I liked this model because it was at the right price point and had the tradition V body style, if you don't think too much about the headstock. This guitar probably hasn't gotten any love because I don't see it as your typical Dime type guitar, and its not your typical vintage Flying V. The pickups are not high enough gain to get love from the shredders and the Headstock probably turns some people off. What I found is a pretty great guitar with some help. First, the action was high. I lowered the bridge significantly. The good news is that the frets are good I didn't run into any buzziness after lowering the action a little lower than I thought I could get away with. Next, the pickups needed adjustment. They were pretty low. I brought them up a little and found that the sound filled out and got chimey like it should. I adjusted the pole pieces to match the fretboard radius and viola! Most of these guitars have good pickups and don't need an immediate change. Folks, you need to learn how to properly adjust your guitar pickups! Then figure out if you need something different. PS adjust these pickups on a clean channel, you need to hear the guitar not distortion. Long story short, this is a great guitar. It shouldn't be your main axe, but its a great conversation piece that sounds better than it should. I feel like I discovered a diamond in the rough. P.S. The guitar is really light and comfortable to play with a strap.Fred

I have bought several guitars in the 100 to 300 range. I was surprised on the quality of this guitar and felt it was superior to many other brands in this range. From neck joint to fret polish & leveling and finish this guitar is quality except the tuners, however the guitar stays in tune and rarely goes out. The neck is not a Fender Strat or Tele neck so don't expect it to play like one, Its its own thing. It is not wide at the nut so if you need a wide neck at the nut it may not be for you. I find it fine and would not consider it narrow. The neck is slightly fatter than a Squire neck but it is still a C shape and a bit thicker as you go up the neck to higher frets. It plays great. Its set up well for Rock and Blues playing, neck adjusted with a light bow and strings set low (but not to low to buzz). Bridge saddles are stainless steel and this make the strings ring out bright and loud even when not plugged in. Intonation was spot on. Frets are tall enough to allow for string bending (there not super low). As regards pickups this is a personal thing. Pickups are very basic and do okay, one may want to upgrade them to ones own liking other wise there fine.pchapm
I was hesitant when ordering the guitar, but after I received it worry washed away from a single glance. I'm not good at instruments, I never played anything than doing ukulele club when I was a kid so I didn't expect myself to buy a guitar. It's delicate and beautiful, feels great to hold and sounds just as good. I do not regret buying this guitar at all, in fact I'm greatful that I'm able to own it. It's a beautiful guitar and really well made. I bought it for my 9 year old daughter and she loves it. I don't know anything about guitars as I'm a pianist myself, but her guitar teacher was absolutely delighted with it. It's definitely worth paying the extra for the upgrades. I can definitely see it lasting her as it feels really solid, and the knobs and twiddly bits etc feel really solid. I genuinely can't get over how nice it is. Sound: This guitar I by far the smoothest I have ever played. The tone is great and playing leads on it is like no other. Features: Everything about this guitar is perfect from the type of wood to the electonics. Ease of Use: This is an easy guitar to play if you have experience. Beginners will have to get used to it. The jumbo frets is where people will get messed up because of the spacing of the strings. Quality: This guitar will last a lifetime. I've wanted one of these for a long time and finally took the plunge. I'm very happy with the sound and construction of this guitar. Note that at least as of early 2018, there is no longer a "KH-602" inlay on the 24th fret. There are two small skull inlays like on the new Purple Sparkle model. The neck is super smooth on this guitar as mentioned by everyone else. The only thing I am having trouble getting used to is the extreme bevel of the fret ends. If I'm not careful it's easy for me to push the low E off the fretboard. Tuning the Floyd Rose bridge takes some patience, but once you get it dialed in it stays locked down. I like it.Rockman
I played on an Ibanez S-series for years and it was my go to for playing metal. I also own an American Standard Fender Stratocaster. I bought this guitar because I love playing Metallica songs and solos just jamming at home. This is by far my favorite guitar to play on now. The extra jumbo frets make soloing a cinch and have improved my capabilities. The heavy metal crunching sound is AWESOME and I only play on a Line 6 with one 12" speaker. My only disappointment is with some buzzing frets. The repair technician at Guitar center told me I have uneven frets, which would need to be repaired to get rid of the buzzing on both E strings, which is still present even after having the guitar set perfectly to spec by Guitar Center. You can't hear the buzzing through the amp, but I expected to receive near perfection from ESP/LTS when paying such as high price tag. QC those frets better before you release the guitars ESP South Korea! Or cut the price!Brosche

Bolt on necks are usually a little brighter. Sustains very well. I'm very very happy with it. It is exactly what it is advertised as. Buy one. You'll love it. Getting the ML X Floyd next. No doubt due to my own preference I will be swapping out the bridge pickup only. All my main guitars have Seymour Duncan TB and SH 6 bridge pickups. Great guitar for nodding to tour own preferences. I adjusted the pole pieces to match the fretboard radius and viola! Most of these guitars have good pickups and don't need an immediate change. Folks, you need to learn how to properly adjust your guitar pickups! Then figure out if you need something different. PS adjust these pickups on a clean channel, you need to hear the guitar not distortion. Long story short, this is a great guitar. It shouldn't be your main axe, but its a great conversation piece that sounds better than it should. I feel like I discovered a diamond in the rough. P.S. I purchased this Dean ML based on my appreciation for Dime and simply because teenage me committed to owning one someday. I found a pic that I took with Dime which reminded me of being in the front row watching him jam away on his Dime Slime years ago. For me, this purchase was primarily motivated by nostalgia, expecting build quality to be sort of, ok. I have to say, this guitar exceeded my expectations. Slight disclaimer: I purchased this item knowing I would immediately upgrade most of the hardware and adjust things to make it more comfortable for my playing. 1) It is a fantastic base instrument. It plays fairly well as sold. This was my first experience with a Floyd Rose Special. Also, it will definitely be my last. I played it stock for about 2 weeks to get a good feel for it before changing anything. It’s a great playing guitar. 2) Every review I saw said that the finish was amazing and pictures just couldn’t do it justice. I agree. They did a great job on the neck and body of this guitar. It’s flawless. 3) Everything was to spec on mine. Action, truss rod, intonation, fret, bridge and pickup height, all perfect. My fretboard had a somewhat excessive amount of dye on it but nothing too crazy. The nut on mine was clearly cut too deep leaving the high e in permanent sitar mode with fret buzz. So, quality control could be an issue. For my needs this wasn’t a problem as I had already decided on replacing virtually all hardware with new parts that I had on hand from a project that I decided not to restore. 4) The pickups sound great. The Dime Slime nailed the Pantera tones, not surprising. I was surprised by the classic/southern rock and soloist tones I was able to get with minor eq adjustments. Clear and warm through the drive/distortion. It does jazz and country pretty well too. It has a very balanced sound to it which I was not expecting. I’ve played it on three different amps with the same results. Great. This is a great buy. A solid guitar as is. However, in my case, this guitar didn’t really come to life until I did what I did: OFR Hot Rod, brass block,springs, some shielding, etc. Now, what really irritates me is that it plays a lot better than a few of my guitars that were either at or almost double the cost of the Dime Slime. Overall: I'm no stranger to the scratch and dent game. I think half the fun is trying to figure out where the scratch and or dent is. When this model V came out I already knew that it would be a great guitar. Never played a Dean I didn't like. This model is a steal even at full price. Mahogony body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, Floyd and hot pickups. Actually, very hot pickups. My guitar has a bright sizzle to it in the bridge pickup and the neck pickup sounds great. Pretty balanced out put. The bridge is a Floyd Rose Lic. Stays in tune well. The fretboard is high quality. No fretsprout to speak of. Intonation is good, stays in tune and no high frets to speak of. This guitar sounds very good with the dimebuckers, since they are pretty high output. The Floyd Rose Special is not bad, although I had to tighten the bar a lot for it to stop swinging around. I have played this guitar quite a bit and it still holds tune very well, even though I pretty regularly do squeals and dive bombs. The only problem that I have is just a visual problem, and it doesn't affect playability at all. I don't know if it had to do with all of the weather changes, since guitars don't have problems moving to harsh environments, but I notice that there were some visible cracks in the fretboard binding (not any problems with the fretboard itself). There was also a crack in the finish by the neck joint, but it is very small and hard to see. They seem to be just cracked inside the binding and not on the outside, since I can't feel the cracks. Other than those problems, I really don't have anything bad to say about the guitar other than it feels absolutely amazing if you are a dimebag Darrell fan or love Pantera. I really can't recommend this guitar enough for metal heads that need an upgrade.Joe, B
Overall: I was sceptical at first bc it is a big body,wasn't Shure if I'd be comfortable with it but I am sold now.Ive sold my Les Paul ,and this is one of my main axes now the sound is incredible it sounds better than my Les Paul did .plus the neck is just built for metal easy to get around ,and fasssst! I figured I’d like this guitar seeing as how I’ve wanted it for about 17 years. Darrell Abbott is my idol and I knew I had to have this guitar one day. I also had it in my mind that it may not live up to my expectations because I’ve put it on a pedestal for so long. Well, let me tell you, I cannot put this guitar down. I dream about playing it. Sometimes I get up an hour early so I can play it before I go to work, then while I’m at work, I think about getting home to play it. It’s light, the neck is fat but extremely comfortable, it plays like a hot knife through butter. It shreds. You can play anything on this thing. Blues, metal, jazz even. I absolutely cannot explain how much this guitar has exceeded my expectations. The case is not perfect though. It’s not made as well as I would have hoped. The guitar does fit perfectly inside and the case will protect it. If you’re thinking about buying this thing, I can guarantee that you will at least like it and probably love it.

This is the first Acoustic/electric that I have owned that I actually love playing. The action is great even with the large gauge acoustic strings on it. Comes with a very nice gig-bag/case. I love the way the neck and back of the guitar looks. I also love the Strat 5-way switch that selects the degree and type of acoustic sound. The only downside with this guitar is the cover that serves as a cover for the electronics and pick guard. It looks cheap, more like a decal than a cover. I think Fender can do better on this detail for the price of the guitar. However, if you can get past that then it is a fine playing and sounding guitar. I have owned several Acoustic and Acoustic/Electric guitars. The action on even high-priced acoustics was so terrible I just ended up selling them. The research I did on trying to learn more about this instrument via general internet, YouTube, assorted standard Music Company's like Sam Ash; Sweetwater; Guitar Center; Alamo; and other assorted Music Guitar critics provided a good array of opinions and product test results that produced a positive majority with impressive perspectives for the instrument I purchased. The Fender American Acoustasonic Stratocaster Acoustic-Electric Guitar Cocobolo I purchased from Sam Ash was not a disappointment. Aside from the 10 different options of Guitar unique sounds it provides from Acoustic and Electric mixes. The one-of-a-kind Cocobolo wood identifies a further fingerprint in supporting its own private one-of-a-kind signature sound with relationship to the Cocobolo wood unique to it alone. That just blows me away with how special the sound of specialty signature sound it produces with the ten different built in technical sounds the Fender Guitar company developed with this special edition. I feel overwhelmed in learning to continue how to play this guitar. Overall, I am very happy with this guitar. It exudes classic Fender looks and tone. The quality and craftsmanship are decent for the price point. I have a US Tele and, after putting some TLC into this player strat, it feels and plays almost as good as the Tele. I would give it five stars if it were not for fretwork that was needed. Body – The finish and surf pearl color are gorgeous. The wood grain is barely visible (raised) so I would not say the finish is flawless, but the grain is very subtle and adds character in my opinion. The routed cavities for the electronics (top) and the tremolo springs (back) are precisely cut and clean. The electronics cavity was even finished with black paint. Neck – The finish and appearance are great. However, all 22 frets had sprouted; some as much as 1/32". I can't say this is a craftsmanship issue as the frets were probably fine when it was assembled. It must have been a very high humidity environment, though. Nevertheless, after painstakingly filing and redressing all 44 fret ends it feels good. The frets themselves were well seated and leveled. The 3rd and 11th frets were a few thousands of an inch high, but not enough to cause any buzzing issues. The frets were well rounded and polished. Hardware – The tuners are just okay. One of them feels a little rough turning, and they seem to have a low turning ratio making it very touchy to dial in perfect pitch. The 2-point fulcrum tremolo bridge seems like a better design than the traditional (six screw) bridges, but I did not test it. I prefer to block them for more stable tuning, which worked great with this bridge. I have upgraded electronics I had planned to install in this guitar, but the stock pickups aren't bad. They are very quiet and have good tone – there is no rush to replace them. Setup was a breeze. Truss rod adjustment was smooth, nut slots were to spec, and intonation was perfect. The action needed adjustment since I blocked the tremolo, but that was easy.Dave S.

I love this Casino. I knew I wanted a P-90, and I really wanted a fully hollow body. I wanted to see if I could replicate a I've been agonizing over the purchase for months, looking for every possible solution, and was almost ready to pull the trigger on the Epi USA version, and after MUCH research, finally decided to go with the regular Epiphone. The construction, from everything I read, is excellent, and I knew that if necessary, I could always switch out the pups. Well, I can't say enough about how good this guitar is! I am extremely fussy on setups (I do setups on my own guitars and for other people) and this thing was ready to play right out of the box! I literally didn't touch a thing except to tune it up. I won't even have to dress the frets. I may touch them up just a bit (again, I'm really fussy) but they feel better than most guitars that cost three times as much. It is really beautiful. I love the vintage sunburst. The finish is flawless. Now for the important part – it plays like a dream. The neck profile is extremely comfortable. I can move up and down the neck as fluidly as on any guitar I own. And the sound! I was amazed at how present it is, even before plugging it in. I see this little sweetheart spending a lot of evenings on the couch with me. Soft enough not to overly bother my wife, but again – very present. Plugged in – well lets just say I won't be replacing these pups. It is exactly the sound I was hoping for. I'm no Grant Green, but I can certainly understand why he loved this guitar. This thing is easily worth 4 times the price. The build quality is impeccable. The binding is perfectly flush, the finish is beautiful and evenly applied and the intonation was extremely close out of the box (I only had to move the G string saddle back a bit to set it, all the other strings were perfect). The headstock has a nice molded profile to the sides – this is something I haven't seen on other Epiphone guitars. The PRO p90 pickups are fantastic. I have 11 other electrics from an epi 335 to a Gibson Les Paul Traditional to modded teles and strats and I never could quite find that classic clear tone with a thick rich drive when you dig into it that I've been looking for – this Casino has that sound! Every website/listing likes to talk about the Beatles… that comparison doesn't speak to what this guitar is capable of. This is more in line with Gary Clark Jr., The Black Crowes, Jack White and The Allman Brothers Band sounds. Think rich, bluesy rock. It's much cooler than "the Beatles guitar". Plug this sucker into a Vox and you're in business. The C shape neck is very comfortable- it has a flat back with rounded sides. Plus, with the satin finish your hand moves more freely up and down the neck. It's nice to play unplugged too, it's fully hollow so it plays/sounds like a quieter acoustic unplugged. The knobs/pots are really cool looking and work great with no scratching. They have even adjustments – no quick falls after a certain number like you see with others in this price range. They have a cool old school tab to show where you are on the dial (no pictures show this little detail). All in all – super cool vintage vibe, sweet clean tone with a fun roaring bite on the gain – excellent guitar.
Had the money to buy any guitar in the shop. Liked the looks of the SG, worn ebony with rosewood fingerboard and the Gibson speed knobs. Having only played guitars with 9.5 radius, I found the 14 radius was better for bar chords. The craftsmanship is excellent, can find no flaws the body or neck. The truss rod was out of adjustment, considerable back-bow. I fixed that, and set the action low. The intonation was spot on. Frets were polished with no sharp edges. I plan to upgrade the cheap electronics with new pots. As for the pickups, they sound ok. Since I use a modeling amp, not a big issue for me. The nut is a GraphTech synthetic bone. Nice touch for an inexpensive guitar, since i do not like changing them out…too much risk of damage. I have fender Strat and Tele, but have not put this down since purchasing it. Once I upgrade the electronics, this will be a very solid guitar.Jeff

In stock this guitar deserves no more than 3 stars but I can give it 4 because you can really work with it and upgrade it to become a better sounding instrument. The tremolo is not very good but it works fine and gets the job done. It can go out of tune easily if not set-up properly. The tremolo on mine deteriorated over time and has now been destroyed but that's not a problem for me as I will upgrade it. The pups aren't bad but they aren't good; you get what you pay for. Other than that it is an okay instrument for practicing and learning specially if you're a Metallica fan boy. The thin U-neck is very comfortable and the jumbo frets make it easy to play but there are way better guitars out there for the price.TheHomieDavid
Great build quality, action didnt need much adjustment, frets are not scratchy as often new ones are. Floyd rose trem is fine, but have replaced springs with noiseless ones; top locking nut needed a little fettle so it didnt click at full trem arm depression. Screws on back plate had a little rust, which would suggest at some point it was stored in a damp environment……. but apart these little issues, a great guitar …… now to replace the stock pickups, as they are a little muddy and i like an EMG set…. thats just preference!!!Reviewed by Absolute Music custo

I've always wanted an ML and this one looked so beautiful online. It's even better when it's in your hand. Pickups are awesome, nice full tone and great crunch on the distortion side. Love the matte finish on the back of the neck. It has great sustain too, you can feel the tone through the whole guitar when you play a note and I prefer that solid feel when I play. My only two complaints is there are a couple fingerprints under the clear coat on the back. Obviously missed during the QC checks at the factory. But they're barely noticeable and they're on the back. Gives it character to have a workers fingerprints as part of my guitar. The other thing is the frets could've been polished a little better. But when I changed the strings, I took another 30 mins and polished them and that was that. This is my 10th guitar and it's tied for number one favorite. I play it every day and love it. I bought the case for it as well, it's enormous, but great fit and quality.Will
Overall: I purchased a Dean EVO XM electric guitar awhile ago, at a very reasonable price, but the fret edges were sharp, and adjusting the neck for a modicum of playability was practically impossible! My mistake was leaving it back in it’s box, and missing the cut off for returns by ONE DAY! The customer service agent basically said “no can do”, sorry, etc. So, I bought an Epiphone TV Yellow Les Paul Special, with a nice discount price, and put the Dean on an internet selling network. It still sits in the carton it came in, and I await some individual to take it off my hands. In actuality, that one day late in trying to get a refund, and told a resounding “No”, was within zZounds right to do so, but it left a “bad taste”in my mouth, to say the least. I won’t buy from them again.
This Dean Select Quilt Top V is the best V I've ever owned. I've owned many by all the other companies. The pickups are the best I've heard through my Marshall ever. The quilt top is amazing. The binding is beautiful and the satin neck is very fast to play on. Frets are level. Probably better than most of the guitars I own. No complaints anywhere. I love this guitar.

Picked up a 2019, same exact model about a month ago. Quality and build is superb, the carved top has even more flame than I expected. I wanted an "understated" look, and it's perfect. Flame changes with light. The nitro finish is buffed like new, unlike the VOS models, and the natural dye on the back and neck is rich and deep. Instrument is plek'd, action and intonation are flawless. The CustomBucker pickups are all the rage, you can only get them on a new instrument, and are supposed to be the best PAF repro so far. I'm still trying to decide if I like them, my ears say that the 60s have more natural midrange than 59s, but I can eq it out on my amps. They also seem to be unpotted. I'm really inspired by the sound and feel of the '60 LP, the looks and quality are just icing.Ron
I have been a Sweetwater customer for longer than I remember, and one feature I have always loved is the pics and weights of the actual guitars so you know what you're getting. So, I found a 60s Faded LP with a ridiculously low weight of 8 lbs, 2oz. The top looked nice, not anything crazy, which is fine but the one feature I love about the top is the mineral streaks (flecking) in the top. The streaks really add character. I was less into a fancy top than a light weight, good playability and great sound. And I was not disappointed. My rep, a fine young man named Jacob Terhune, expedited the shipping, and I had it in my hands literally the next day. Opening up the new case, and smelling that wonderful new Gibson smell is something I've always loved. The case candy was all there and speaking of the case, It was made by TKL just like back in the day and that is super awesome! My guitar is light as stated, and the satin finish is very well done, feels super smooth and I like that the back is natural with nicely matched grain. I did my usual setup and going through my LP and I think the quality on my LP was top notch. There were no file marks on the board, no scratches and every aspect of the build was great. The 61R/T pickup combo is great, I did have to adjust the pole pieces (which I do for every guitar), and just sat there making small adjust meats and I'm so pleased with the sound. The setup from the factory and the inspection from Sweetwater were fine, but as always I tweak it here and there. I did lower the nut slots only .003 of an inch, since I like the action at the first fret at .020". The fingerboard was a little dry, but much better than my 2020 Flying V board, but I hydrated it just a bit more. As far as sound, this LP is outstanding. It's very loud and projects sound well when you strum it unplugged and the entire guitar vibrates so much that it'll tickle your hands as you play. This guitar just feels alive, and it make me want to play, and if I'm not playing it, I love to just look at it. I guess I'm simping for my guitar, and I'm good with that. I see many people on Youtube run down Gibsons quality, but I have to disagree based on mine. My LP is outstanding and I would highly recommend one of these with no hesitation.
Going on a two-month report. The pickups are the strong suit of this guitar. They are like telecaster single coils but on steroids! They have a low-end snappy output on the neck pickup, excellent for jazz, blues, hard rock & metal. Mid-range is very stable in the middle position i.e. funk, rock, and pop. Also, the bridge pickup is what people strive for in an LP i.e. metal, classic rock, & hard blues. It has That classic overdriven PAF tone. It's worth spending the $$$. The quality is genuine and the slight VOS aging is a nice touch. The relic is not overly done but has a slightly played look. Tuners are superb, metal components are aged, & the lacquer is just right. Indian fretboard looks like ebony and the trapezoid inlays are aged just perfectly. Also, the case is beautiful along with the awesome case candy. Overall, this is worth every dollar. It's surprisingly a very versatile guitar!

Sound: Sounds exactly as you’d want a Les Paul Junior to sound. Plenty of bite and cleans up extremely well. Very versatile in sounds with just the 2 knobs. This guitar couldn’t have been any more perfect in my experience. The feel of this guitar specifically is just incredible, the neck is so comfortable and the frets are perfect and smooth. It feels better than any other guitar I own by a mile, some of which I’ve had professionally setup very recently. The finish looks amazing and feels great on the neck as well. I got the ebony with the tortoise shell pickguard which looks even better than Id hoped as well. The stock pickup in it leaves nothing more to be desired, plenty of growl and punch, sounds absolutely incredible on an open D chord. Nothing like it.
Purchased a 2020 LP Junior in ebony from AMS. Arrived with chipped and bubbling paint at the neck joint. Can't believe any respectable quality control engineer would allow this out of the factory. Having purchased a 2019 Les Paul Special last year through AMS, I thought Gibson had turned the corner! And although AMS has a great return policy, I can't purchase another until the guitar has been inspected and credited to my account. So 5-7 days before I can reorder! Total Disappointment! I always liked the Ibanez instruments and products. This guitar for the money has a great sound, is light and small, very practical for people with small hands, or for children. Playability is nice, the pickups are good, hardware is good. It's versatile also for all types of genre's. Ideal for rock and metal, shreds real nice. If you're looking for a good but inexpensive guitar, this one is a good purchase. It's not only for beginners, it's for all level players.John
Classic Ibanez body shape, neck, tuners and lightweight, like a scaled down Soundgear (SGR) series only sans the unnecessary active bass junk. Knobs are solid metal, not cheap plastic ones found on other low end Ibanez basses. Only thing bass needed out of box was intonation set. No neck adjustments needed and no significant buzz. Strings are round wound (my pref). Would not recommend this bass if you think you need (tone killing) flat wound. I'm not aware of anyone making flatwound strings for a 28.6" scale bass. Note: scale length of this bass (28.6") is shorter than typical short scale (30"). The strings on it are proprietary (Ibanez). You might be able to make some cut down long scale strings work (pain, wouldn't recommend) but the proprietary Ibanez strings are the way to go. MF doesn't sell them for some reason. You can find them online for a very reasonable price online. Buy a couple of extra sets. Pickups are jazz bass style and config (two volumes + one tone) which is my pref. I had zero issues with tone or volume controls. Pickups are all passive. Yah! And tone sounds great, classic jazz bass tones available including a nice Jaco-ish tone with 100% bridge pickup and tone rolled way down. Be wary of review comments from guitar players that don't play bass and buy this bass and suddenly have a lot of opinions about what this bass should and shouldn't be. This bass does not need the bridge, pickups, tuners or electronics replaced to make it a "pro" instrument. All this bass needs to be a "pro" instrument, is a "pro" player playing it. Tone is in your fingers. I highly recommend for beginners and I think experienced players will dig it as well, especially those that appreciate shorter scale instruments.mark5211
Overall: We bought two of the Mikro guitars. A GRGM21 and a P.Gilbert Model. We expected at this price that some changes would be needed; and we were right. The nut has to be replaced. The original has so much wrong with it that I really don't want to type a paragraph explaining. It's made of bad material and you will never get to tune without replacing it. Consider the nut a "model" and there should be instructions with the guitar saying to replace it soon as poosible. There's gonna be some buzz from some high frets but that was an easy fix. There a a couple tricks to getting the intonation right but it can be done. (hint: move the saddles all the way forward) Hope this helped.

Overall: Seriously……..I'm baffled, and highly impressed with this limited run that Fender/Jackson is offering, and the quality that is immediately obvious with these guitars. As well, do not be deceived by the price…rather, consider this to be an opportunity. So literally, just a few weeks ago, I purchased the stop tailpiece Fender Special Run variant (which I am upgrading w/EMG 57/66, brushed gold, Tonepros bridge, gold, Earvana compensated nut, Gotoh Magnum SG381 locking tuner, gold, EMG Satin Gold knobs) of this guitar, so therefore, as I am thoroughly impressed, I was compelled to await the arrival of this version (tremolo) through zZounds, yet it became available via Amazon, and I made my purchase just 10 days ago. Okay, so in no particular order, I'm going to start with the Amaranth (of the Purpleheart family/species……yes, that beautiful purple wood seen on many high end guitars)….these are the first two guitars that I now own with this species of wood utilized for the fretboards, and I absolutely love it. At first glance, your eye tends to see it as Ebony, as the wood has quite the dark appearance, which I totally dig (and quite fitting as the guitar is in nat mahogany finish), and it sounds bright, snappy, percussive, and present. As well, I dig the feel, as it has a nice, tight grain pattern.The fretwire- …..ummm, well, ….all level, and comfortable frets. I've not found any dead/high spots, and if so, it's so minimal that it's within a tolerance that allows you to keep low, low action, if you prefer (and the fretwire is just the right jumbo size to allow for the feel of the wire, along with the wood).The tuning machines- ….as I normally upgrade all of my tuning machines to Gotoh SG 381 Magnum locking, I must say, I like these tuners so much, that I'm torn and considering not upgrading, as they are visually stunning, and work quite well. The body of the tuners (where the mechanisms/gears are located) are not thin, and are actually quite robust in size, which provides confidence they'll maintain.The graphite reinforced neck- 5 stars +. Period. You immediately feel it, as soon as you grasp the neck..but also when playing, you can sense a bit more resonance and volume from the notes.The natural mahogany finish- Just…beautiful. Period. (and the feel is quite satisfying, indeed).The Jackson-branded Floyd- …..okay, ……I'm impressed…once again. This is a genuine Floyd Rose licensed unit, as the tremolo block is a genuine Floyd Rose 32mm/nickel-plated block. Look, the gold Fender/Jackson has chosen for these units, is absolutely beautiful….it's a dense, kinda lustrous gold that has a bit more depth than, for instance, an Original Floyd….it's really beautiful (as the colors match via the tuners, locking nut, and tremolo unit). Key feature…..the matching/gold-colored fine tuners via the baseplate. however, my only complaint w/this/these units, is that the very bottoms of the fine tuning screws do not have a flat surface (at the bottom/point of contact) for the string lock screws to make contact with/move smoothly up and down when tuning…rather, it causes the string lock screws/tuning to "skip", and kinda clank, as you feel the bottom of the fine tuning screws jumping/skipping as you fine tune….so you may jump a half-step during turning due to this. It's not a difficult fix, however, as the bottoms of the tuning screws simply need filed/sanded a bit….no biggie (however, if one prefers not to do so, the Original Floyd brass fine tuning screws are an optimal substitute, as they are easy to remove/change. The action of the tremolo is smooth, no noise, and the bar fits snug without those weird unpredictable …"hmmm, i wonder if the bar that comes with the unit will actually fit as it should?" kinda anomalies/moments. (key note- the locking nut is an actual Floyd Rose Special R3, and the neck nut shelf is filed/seated at the proper height…therefore preventing an unplayable kinda high string-to-fret height when fretting….once again, the attention to detail will have you asking…."really?, just $400??"…..it's that good.)The pickups- …not bad. ..not bad at all. I dig 'em. Although, I'm full-on EMG, and I'm goin' with the Het Set, or 57/66 in brushed gold (or, possibly the 81X, 85X in brushed gold). As I am hearing the characteristics of these wood combinations on this guitar, my immediate choices are any of the 3 EMG options listed above, but the Jackson pickups sound great…they really do. Well-balanced and fitting.The 3-way switch- ….nice, solid, and "tight" feeling. The gold-mirrored pickguard- ……..just …sick. The knobs- Very, very nice (and, once again, all the gold selected for this instrument….are an exact match across all components……..impressive).Overall- As I tend to often make purchases based off of my instincts, and relying on them, I'm so pleased I own both the stop tail and tremolo versions of this guitar. Looks and feels great, sounds nice out of the box but the stock pickups are not stellar. However, they will do everything upto 85% of high end pickups. These are actually pretty good. Unless you're very finicky, I don't recommend changing them. Can't say anything bad about it. I modified mine because my cover shield was cracked out of the box and I have not heard anything back about a replacement. I got some unique Lace Humbucker and slapped them on with some mad wiring that splits and parallels the hums. It sounds a lot better than stock. I also added a chrome cover shield.arcticwynd

This guitar sounds very good with the dimebuckers, since they are pretty high output. The Floyd Rose Special is not bad, although I had to tighten the bar a lot for it to stop swinging around. I have played this guitar quite a bit and it still holds tune very well, even though I pretty regularly do squeals and dive bombs. The only problem that I have is just a visual problem, and it doesn't affect playability at all. I don't know if it had to do with all of the weather changes, since guitars don't have problems moving to harsh environments, but I notice that there were some visible cracks in the fretboard binding (not any problems with the fretboard itself). There was also a crack in the finish by the neck joint, but it is very small and hard to see. They seem to be just cracked inside the binding and not on the outside, since I can't feel the cracks. Other than those problems, I really don't have anything bad to say about the guitar other than it feels absolutely amazing if you are a dimebag Darrell fan or love Pantera. I really can't recommend this guitar enough for metal heads that need an upgrade.Joe, B
Overall: I was sceptical at first bc it is a big body,wasn't Shure if I'd be comfortable with it but I am sold now.Ive sold my Les Paul ,and this is one of my main axes now the sound is incredible it sounds better than my Les Paul did .plus the neck is just built for metal easy to get around ,and fasssst! This thing is awesome . everything was stellar out the box ,and man does this thing stay in tune .I just absolutely love the feel and sound of this axe you cannot go wrong here .I am a Dean customer for life now.
I figured I’d like this guitar seeing as how I’ve wanted it for about 17 years. Darrell Abbott is my idol and I knew I had to have this guitar one day. I also had it in my mind that it may not live up to my expectations because I’ve put it on a pedestal for so long. Well, let me tell you, I cannot put this guitar down. I dream about playing it. Sometimes I get up an hour early so I can play it before I go to work, then while I’m at work, I think about getting home to play it. It’s light, the neck is fat but extremely comfortable, it plays like a hot knife through butter. It shreds. You can play anything on this thing. Blues, metal, jazz even. I absolutely cannot explain how much this guitar has exceeded my expectations. The case is not perfect though. It’s not made as well as I would have hoped. The guitar does fit perfectly inside and the case will protect it. If you’re thinking about buying this thing, I can guarantee that you will at least like it and probably love it.

I purchased this guitar a couple months ago and while the finish is absolutely stunning and I want to just mount it on the wall, it’s hard to put it down! The guitar came in tune, set up and ready to play. Easily one of the best playing guitars I’ve ever picked up, I own a Prestige Ibanez, two schecters, an ESP LTD and this one is so easy to play compared to all the others. Bends and vibrato are effortless and the Floyd is great, stays in tune nicely. The Dimebucker is super, super hot, great for the Dime harmonics and squeals. Also this guitar and it’s case are massive, have to fold the seats in my SUV down every time I take it anywhere, but despite its large surface area; it is extremely light. Would recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a speedy player or a fan of Dimebag Darrell like myself.
Great metal guitar. When I ordered this Dean I was already thinking of swapping out the neck pickup to some type of Duncan. Then the guitar showed up, the Dime Time neck pickup is amazing! No need to really swap it out unless you really dont like the sound of the Dean pickup. The neck profile on this Dean is a soft V. It's chunky but definitely not like an old Les Paul. It's comfy. If you do not like thick necks, this is not the guitar for you. The korean Floyd on this thing is just as good as a German floyd. Will not go out of tune, unless you set it up wrong. Do some research, its not difficult at all. The Dimebucker is a very underrated pickup. Ton's of reviews of those online and on YouTube. Look it up, you're either gonna love it or hate it. This guitar screams METAL. It's huge. When you strap this guitar on you automatically get a boost of testosterone and instantly grow a red goatee. Not for the feint of heart- get an Ibanez instead.Javier M.
Overall: You can tell that someone was behind every little process in building this beautiful instrument. The neck is a slick as water, the action and everything is set up perfectly, Everything about this guitar just feel premium about it. The ebony fretboard. The paintjob. Down to the extra polish they gave the inlays for a silky touch. I do wish they had stuck with the original stealth headstock. But I can understand using the Razorback.But always wanted one of these high-end Dimebag guitars (I got a Dean from Hell & a basic Razorback) and thanks to zZounds I was able to do it without breaking the bank.

I have a Trans Amber Quilt Top and it's not only beautiful, it is fun to play! I took it camping with a little Flamma FA05 amp that can run off a small sine wave inverter that I have. That was so much fun. I have 5 guitars on a Hercules rack but the Steinberger sits next to my office desk where I can just grab it and plink away. It is so small and compact it doesn't interfere with my work stuff and it doesn't bump into things. It sounds great through my Orange amp and Boss ME80 when I want to kick things up. The people who moan about setup and the like need to spend a little time and learn how to tweak the setup which on the Spirit is really EZ to do. And once you dial it in, it stays in tune and properly setup for a long time. Got a little fret edge? Use a fret file and take it down. Done deal in 10 seconds. I have never understood peeps that don't want to maintain their equipment from start to finish. Oh well. The pickups are fine for ordinary purposes. The single coil is a bit high and maybe low output which can be annoying but I learned to live with it. You can always take it out or replace it. The humbuckers are solid and reliable. No complaints. The whammy bar is cool and can be locked. It stays in remarkably good tune due to the double ball ends. The little leg rest is all metal and has never given me a problem. I did have to tighten the cable jack nut a couple of times but that wasn't difficult to do. The quilt top is really quite good. i wish there were more of it but then the guitar wouldn't have the qualities that I bought it for… namely size and convenience. All in all it's worth every penny of the $400 they are asking.
I got the hotrod yellow. How often do you see a yellow guitar? I also have a $1600 bass and this sounds just as good! I had to do a complete setup which is unusual, adjust the truss rod,saddles,pickup height. It plays and sounds amazing now. Downsides are, you have to buy an adaptor(if you can find one) to use regular strings of your choice. The strap extender which made the bass sit right and more playable cannot be found and is no longer made. Lastly you need to buy a special stand which is also hard to find cause it wont fit on a standard one. I managed to buy the adaptor and the stand from Reverb. As always American musical delivers excellent service and has made many purchases become a reality with the payment system! I no longer shop at music stores all my buisness is done here! The crafstmanship is better then you would expect for the price point. The fit and finnish seems great no sharp edges. The gigbag has a larger pocket and seems a little better quality then the one I got with my GT-Pro years ago. I would recommend a hardshell if you play out a lot with this.Scott G.
I bought this guitar because my back and shoulder have been hurting a lot recently, even with reasonably light guitars. I also tried the Strandberg Boden, but although it was lighter than this I could not justify the huge amount of money and didn't feel it was worth it. So I went with this, the original headless! (or version of) For the money, you can't fault it – I am very happy and play it all the time. So in many ways it deserves 5 stars. There are some bits I don't love though: The volume knob is so close to the strings I knock it a lot. If you are a very precise player this won't be an issue, but if you're going at it Cobain style you will. For the size, it could be lighter. It is still considerably lighter than a "normal" guitar though. The pickups are not great. However, I knew this going in, and with the guitar being so affordable and pickups being the easiest component to replace, this is what I plan on doing. The middle pickup is too close to the strings – I hit it a lot. Again, fixable. The neck profile gets weirdly thinner the closer you get to fret 1. I use this guitar for metal, so I don't mind, but I can't play chords on it, for that I need some girth! I want to end on a high, so here are the things I really like! General playability – it plays really well! A joy. Fretwork – top notch. Tremolo system – Why do more guitars not have the knob at the back to adjust the spring tension? It is fantastic. As is the quick way to lock it off. I've not had a floating trem in years because of the hassle, this is much better. Flip out leg rest – just what you need for seated playing.
