Yes, the tonal range is great, especially the piezo pickup, nicely playable and overall looks and finish seem perfect. But, with nicely contoured access to the high notes let down by the overly large neck heal which starts a fret or two earlier than my other electric guitars. Another annoyance is the very cheap knobs which don't sit straight on the pots. I have a guitar costing a tenth of the price with better fitting knobs. The battery compartment is a bad joke of a design, as the battery holder comes out with the wires attached, you then have to prise up the battery from its contacts and the lever it out for replacement. Overall these are minor annoyances on what is a great guitar but, at this price I expected better. Oh yes, it came with a hard case. Which doesn't fit properly and with no tags or brand markings so who knows what it was made for. It did come with two loose bits of foam, one which was floating around unsure of its purpose.Kevin L.
PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo — I've owned and played this guitar for about three months now. Bottom line: I'm very happy with it–and would recommend it–in spite of a couple issues. There are dozens and dozens of videos that go into detail about the appearance, fit, and finish of this guitar so I won't bother with all that except to confirm that it is very well made overall. The magnetic pickups sound fantastic, period. The piezo pickup was putting out FAR too hot of a signal, distorting at low guitar volume, but once I learned how to adjust the trim pot for it (thanks to the PRS guitar forum website), that problem was solved and now it sounds good. It's a tad bright in my opinion but that's easily fixed with the tone knob on any amp or with an EQ pedal. The battery compartment opens easily enough, but getting the 9V battery out of it without breaking the plastic frame is a challenge. Fortunately, the battery isn't used unless you plug a cable into the PIEZO/MAG jack. The 3-way selector is garbage and I was experiencing crackling and signal drop right out of the box. HOWEVER, this is a known issue and several reviewer videos mention it so I knew what to expect. My soldering skills are only beginner-level (and I've never worked on a hollowbody before) so I paid to have a pro replace the switch for me. MF has offered to credit me the amount of the repair once I send them the receipt, so that's good. The Guitar Case — This shipped with a hard case, which I'm not happy with. When the guitar is properly seated and the lid is properly closed and latched, there is a quarter-inch gap around the bottom (see pics). That's not good. There are several (expensive) case options that are touted as "PRS and PRS-style" cases but they WILL NOT FIT this particular guitar because the lower bout is 14" wide (at least an inch wider than other PRS models). Also, it's about an inch thicker (front to back) than a Jazzmaster so a Jaguar/Jazz case won't work either.RiserGrease
I received the Black Gold Burst version about a week ago. It's a BEAUTIFUL guitar. The pictures don't do it justice. The f-holes really add to the appearance. Fender ALSO makes a hollowbody guitar, but they went the round sound hole direction, which, IMHO, is hokey looking. The sound is INCREDIBLE! I have 4 other electric guitars, including a Fender American Standard Strat, Gibson Les Paul, Gibson SG and an Ibanez Prestige- They are ALL wonderful guitars, and each has its own personality, in how they play AND how they sound. THIS guitar has a sound that TRANSCENDS ALL of my other guitars. There are a number of videos on YouTube. BUT, as with the appearance, they simply DO NOT do it justice. The humbucker pickups ALONE produce a sound that is CLEAR and RESONANT. Adding the sound from the piezo pickup sends it over the top! ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS. I was a little reluctant to purchase a guitar made in China. However, the CONSTRUCTION and FINISH are PERFECT! PLUS, the cost is WAAAY less than the equivalent US-made version. Picked up a 2019, same exact model about a month ago. Quality and build is superb, the carved top has even more flame than I expected. I wanted an "understated" look, and it's perfect. Flame changes with light. The nitro finish is buffed like new, unlike the VOS models, and the natural dye on the back and neck is rich and deep. Instrument is plek'd, action and intonation are flawless. The CustomBucker pickups are all the rage, you can only get them on a new instrument, and are supposed to be the best PAF repro so far. I'm still trying to decide if I like them, my ears say that the 60s have more natural midrange than 59s, but I can eq it out on my amps. They also seem to be unpotted. I'm really inspired by the sound and feel of the '60 LP, the looks and quality are just icing.Ron
I have been a Sweetwater customer for longer than I remember, and one feature I have always loved is the pics and weights of the actual guitars so you know what you're getting. So, I found a 60s Faded LP with a ridiculously low weight of 8 lbs, 2oz. The top looked nice, not anything crazy, which is fine but the one feature I love about the top is the mineral streaks (flecking) in the top. The streaks really add character. I was less into a fancy top than a light weight, good playability and great sound. And I was not disappointed. My rep, a fine young man named Jacob Terhune, expedited the shipping, and I had it in my hands literally the next day. Opening up the new case, and smelling that wonderful new Gibson smell is something I've always loved. The case candy was all there and speaking of the case, It was made by TKL just like back in the day and that is super awesome! My guitar is light as stated, and the satin finish is very well done, feels super smooth and I like that the back is natural with nicely matched grain. I did my usual setup and going through my LP and I think the quality on my LP was top notch. There were no file marks on the board, no scratches and every aspect of the build was great. The 61R/T pickup combo is great, I did have to adjust the pole pieces (which I do for every guitar), and just sat there making small adjust meats and I'm so pleased with the sound. The setup from the factory and the inspection from Sweetwater were fine, but as always I tweak it here and there. I did lower the nut slots only .003 of an inch, since I like the action at the first fret at .020". The fingerboard was a little dry, but much better than my 2020 Flying V board, but I hydrated it just a bit more. As far as sound, this LP is outstanding. It's very loud and projects sound well when you strum it unplugged and the entire guitar vibrates so much that it'll tickle your hands as you play. This guitar just feels alive, and it make me want to play, and if I'm not playing it, I love to just look at it. I guess I'm simping for my guitar, and I'm good with that. I see many people on Youtube run down Gibsons quality, but I have to disagree based on mine. My LP is outstanding and I would highly recommend one of these with no hesitation.
Going on a two-month report. The pickups are the strong suit of this guitar. They are like telecaster single coils but on steroids! They have a low-end snappy output on the neck pickup, excellent for jazz, blues, hard rock & metal. Mid-range is very stable in the middle position i.e. funk, rock, and pop. Also, the bridge pickup is what people strive for in an LP i.e. metal, classic rock, & hard blues. It has That classic overdriven PAF tone. It's worth spending the $$$. The quality is genuine and the slight VOS aging is a nice touch. The relic is not overly done but has a slightly played look. Tuners are superb, metal components are aged, & the lacquer is just right. Indian fretboard looks like ebony and the trapezoid inlays are aged just perfectly. Also, the case is beautiful along with the awesome case candy. Overall, this is worth every dollar. It's surprisingly a very versatile guitar!

Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhkkkkk The new Standard 60s that I received was was being waited for like a scene in a movie when parents are waiting for a stork to bless them with a bundle of joy. Well the stork for me was gruff lookin FedEx driver that was delivering my new Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s. After it was delivered I placed it gently before me and began to unwrap the newest member of the family. So, you know those movies when you expect to see elation on the face of the actor after they open something up but instead it turns to the face of horror, well, that was me. As I opened up the the lid of the case I saw bits of gold flakes and plastic. It was the volume knob that had been smashed. I then looked at the case and the bottom of the case appeared to be damaged. After pulling picking up the pieces and placing them in a bag i played the LP and it was amazing but had obviously been knocked around too much for me to keep. It was tough though, the low end on this guitar was hypnotizing and the highs were like blissful chimes that rang clean yet without shrillness. The weight is amazing and the thus the sustain is like the Energizer Bunny. Anyway, I called AMS, they offered a replacement but I wouldn't be able to choose the serial number for the replacement, so I would have no idea what it looked like; I want to choose what guitar I am buying. So now I have a prepaid return shipping label in my email and a trip to the "stork" in my future. It's very unfortunate that this guitar was not packaged better because it is an amazing sounding guitar. I am buying another one.Mike
Overall: I've had 4 other gibsons and this one is the prettiest of them all. The color, how it fades from a dark red, to bright red then amber. The flame is just right on both sides. It has nearly every different kind of flame in certain spots but consistently has horizontal flame from top to bottom. It's a killer top. It's set up well but the action does need to be lowered and some relief put on the neck but overall not bad. The slim 60s neck is very nice. Its not chunky but not thin either, its right in the sweet spot. It sounds amazing, alnico Vs are hotter than a firecracker. Now the cons- It had about a 4 inch surface scratch on the top where your right arm rests when I inspected it after opening the case. The Grover tuners are nice and keep it in tune but I wish this exact guitar was offered with Kluson deluxe tuners. I prefer the green tulip look. Then there's the graph tech nut. I wish it had a bone nut but ill take care of that later. All in all it's a keeper, for life. Thank yoy zZoundsRyan
I've had the guitar for a couple weeks now and it's been the main guitar I've played during that time and it's incredibly hard to put down. The neck is thin but not too thin. It's a good medium profile. This is also one of the lightest Les Pauls I've ever played. The guitar is extremely resonate and loud acoustically. This could just be luck of the draw finding this specific Les Paul, because I've played a few 60's standards and not all of them were like this one. This one was definitely the best one I tried of this model. I have yet to gig with it yet, but I can't wait to. I've tried it in Standard, Eb Standard, Drop D, and Drop C# and it sounded and reacted great in all four tunings with little need for adjustments. The only con I've found is occasionally the higher strings seem to choke out slightly, but that should be easily remedied with some minor adjustments, and they don't choke out enough to really hurt playability.Eric

So I hesitated on buying this Guitar because I just didnt care for the finish. Well It looks nothing like the pictures. Beautiful 3D flames in the top.Am Very pleased. So that brings me to what I expected from a PRS and didnt get, a playable set up. I know its an SE but the action shouldnt be 6mm at the 22nd fret. How QC at the factory allowed it to leave puzzles me. The pick ups are good for Drop C but even at B standard get really muddy on the lower strings. I put in a Nazgoul, Sentient set and these in another standard guitar. They sound really nice in standard E to drop C. IMOTwayne72
I have used this guitar with my band, live and in rehearsals… Plays fantastically once I set it up to my desired specs (Std D tuning, 10-52 strings, FU Tone brass block), but these PRS stock pickups have no grunt and snarl to them, so I plan to add an SD Black Winter set like in my EC Black Metal FR (dropped C). I have reverted back to using my Kramer Assault Plus which came loaded with the SD Alternative 8 set. Will likely use Custom 24 as primary D guitar again after replacing pickups. For this pickup issue alone, I'm giving it 3 stars, otherwise, it would be 5, as spending over 200 bucks more is a bit off putting after spending over $1100 for this plus a hard shell case for an import.Steve
Absolutely love this guitar! As with all SE Custom 24 models, the feel and balance on the strap and also on the knee are prerfect. The action is fast and smooth, and the whole guitar just oozes quality. The roasted maple board is a really nice variation from the mahogany or ebony boards, which are usually found on Custom 24 models. This particular guitar has the most amazing and deepest "3-D" effect quilted maple veneer that I've ever seen on a SE series model. I believe that PRS would probably rate this as a 4A (AAAA). The sound is as good as you'll get from stock pups in a sub- 1000 guitar and the way that PRS wire the coil tap gives a convincing single-coil tone. What upgrades would make this even better? Probably locking tuners, and maybe a satin neck. After- market pickups, if you want to change the tone.kentishkeith

I am lovin' this guitar! This was the acoustic sound upgrade I was looking for from my Gibson J-45 Standard, and then some! The 1942 Banner J-45 and the Standard are really two different guitars in every way. The sound is wide and broad and deep and has everything a Standard lacks: the 1942 Banner sound is big, the Standard sound is small and not at all on the same level. The build quality on this guitar is exceptional (on par with Martins) and I appreciate the bone bridge, nut and pins. The thin finish really lets the top vibrate and you can see and appreciate the wood grain and wood color on the sides and neck. Less bling, more growl with this model. I could sell every other guitar I own and be content with this Gibson 1942 Banner J-45, and my Martin D-18 Authentic 1937. Both guitars are so very different, but the quality and depth of the sound is the same. They ring forever with layers of overtones. They really compliment each other and yet hold their own against each other. The sound is incredible on this Banner J-45, once the guitar starts to open up from regular playing. It has that big dry Mahogany sound. I am so excited to have this Gibson! I feel I have found my two forever guitars in this Gibson 1942 Banner and my Martin D-18 Authentic 1937. Many thanks to my Sales Engineer, Jake Barker, who counseled and advised me on upgrading to the 1942 Banner J-45 from the Standard – and all the other conversations and help along the way too. I have become a believer in the torrefied Adirondack top and bracing making a difference in regards to sound. Maybe it is just the sound quality of the pre-war models that floors me. The neck is thick with a comfortable rounded C shape. If you can afford it, buy it, it's worth it! Minuses: Not a fan of the tuners, I find them cheap looking from the back – but they hold tune. The "period correct case" is OK, but the latches are small and thin and don't inspire confidence; the standard modern case is better with the big locking latches.
Love the J-45 but also have historically owned Rosewood guitars so this combination was a perfect fit for me. It's got a big full sound, good lows, nice highs. The onboard pickup is better than I expected and when played through an acoustic amp, the low end and fullness of the sound was insanely good. The guitar has a beautiful finish and some nice added touches above the standard J-45. You can't go wrong with a J-45 regardless but if you want something a little different from the standard in terms of sound and looks, I would take a serious look at this one. I really wanted an electric J-45. The G 45 seemed to fit the bill. I've owned many Gibsons since the 70's, including a '63 J45 adjustable bridge and a '64 L5 CES. But they've gotten so expensive that new ones are basically out of my reach. I know Gibson fit, finish and quality and I have to say this guitar falls a little short, even at a grand. I own several acoustic electrics that I use as gigging workhorses. I ran across 3 major issues with the G45 Studio. The G string tuning key responded poorly and required nearly 1/2 a turn in either direction to change string pitch. The offset bridge for high E and B strings raised a flag for me since all my other acoustic electrics have a straight bridge. I could not get the guitar to be reasonably tuned no matter how many cents I tried to compensate either way. If I played an E it would be in, then a D, the D would be noticeably out. I am very experienced in compromised tuning, but it was irreconcilable with this guitar. Lastly, the sound. When I plugged the guitar in to the P.A. there was barely any sound coming out. My other acoustics are consistent in volume when plugged in. I loosened the strings, lifted the bridge and found small pieces of wood left that had pinched and left dents in the pickup wire compromising the contact of pressure of the bridge downward. So the sound was uneven,even after I blew out the wood chips. I would consider buying the guitar again if I could test play it through an amplifier before purchasing, but I won't pay full price for a demonstrator model that has already been played by numerous people and the guitar stores I have visited had no new ones out of the box. The included case makes this a steal. But with the quality control for this model you take a chance. I played the guitar for approximately 30 hours before returning.Rikenrocker

Paul reed smith a50e flamed maple sides solid top. this is a mint guitsr that was only played a couple of hours if that and has been left in its case since. i primarily use a martin that was given to me and as such haven't found a need to play this one. this a50e is known for its mid hump/highs given the maple presence. the flaming is insane and the back is heavily quilted with prs' private stock black gold burst finish used on 35th anniversary customs. the fretboard is ebony with real abalone shell bird inlays and a thicker neck. i currently have earthwood 11s on it and the electronics are fantastic with a new battery in it. the guitar will come securely packaged, down tuned to prevent neck strain, and comes in its own prs original hard shell case along with all the case candy.

Yes, the tonal range is great, especially the piezo pickup, nicely playable and overall looks and finish seem perfect. But, with nicely contoured access to the high notes let down by the overly large neck heal which starts a fret or two earlier than my other electric guitars. Another annoyance is the very cheap knobs which don't sit straight on the pots. I have a guitar costing a tenth of the price with better fitting knobs. The battery compartment is a bad joke of a design, as the battery holder comes out with the wires attached, you then have to prise up the battery from its contacts and the lever it out for replacement. Overall these are minor annoyances on what is a great guitar but, at this price I expected better. Oh yes, it came with a hard case. Which doesn't fit properly and with no tags or brand markings so who knows what it was made for. It did come with two loose bits of foam, one which was floating around unsure of its purpose.Kevin L.
PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo — I've owned and played this guitar for about three months now. Bottom line: I'm very happy with it–and would recommend it–in spite of a couple issues. There are dozens and dozens of videos that go into detail about the appearance, fit, and finish of this guitar so I won't bother with all that except to confirm that it is very well made overall. The magnetic pickups sound fantastic, period. The piezo pickup was putting out FAR too hot of a signal, distorting at low guitar volume, but once I learned how to adjust the trim pot for it (thanks to the PRS guitar forum website), that problem was solved and now it sounds good. It's a tad bright in my opinion but that's easily fixed with the tone knob on any amp or with an EQ pedal. The battery compartment opens easily enough, but getting the 9V battery out of it without breaking the plastic frame is a challenge. Fortunately, the battery isn't used unless you plug a cable into the PIEZO/MAG jack. The 3-way selector is garbage and I was experiencing crackling and signal drop right out of the box. HOWEVER, this is a known issue and several reviewer videos mention it so I knew what to expect. My soldering skills are only beginner-level (and I've never worked on a hollowbody before) so I paid to have a pro replace the switch for me. MF has offered to credit me the amount of the repair once I send them the receipt, so that's good. The Guitar Case — This shipped with a hard case, which I'm not happy with. When the guitar is properly seated and the lid is properly closed and latched, there is a quarter-inch gap around the bottom (see pics). That's not good. There are several (expensive) case options that are touted as "PRS and PRS-style" cases but they WILL NOT FIT this particular guitar because the lower bout is 14" wide (at least an inch wider than other PRS models). Also, it's about an inch thicker (front to back) than a Jazzmaster so a Jaguar/Jazz case won't work either.RiserGrease
I received the Black Gold Burst version about a week ago. It's a BEAUTIFUL guitar. The pictures don't do it justice. The f-holes really add to the appearance. Fender ALSO makes a hollowbody guitar, but they went the round sound hole direction, which, IMHO, is hokey looking. The sound is INCREDIBLE! I have 4 other electric guitars, including a Fender American Standard Strat, Gibson Les Paul, Gibson SG and an Ibanez Prestige- They are ALL wonderful guitars, and each has its own personality, in how they play AND how they sound. THIS guitar has a sound that TRANSCENDS ALL of my other guitars. There are a number of videos on YouTube. BUT, as with the appearance, they simply DO NOT do it justice. The humbucker pickups ALONE produce a sound that is CLEAR and RESONANT. Adding the sound from the piezo pickup sends it over the top! ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS. I was a little reluctant to purchase a guitar made in China. However, the CONSTRUCTION and FINISH are PERFECT! PLUS, the cost is WAAAY less than the equivalent US-made version. I've always wanted a PRS and now I have one it was worth the wait. The range of tones, the sensitivity of the controls, the playability are all top notch. Not to mention it looks stunning. Out of the box it was all nicely set up, low action and very very playable. I've switched from the stock 9s to 10s and it sounds perfect. I've never been one for coil taps…all the others I have stay firmly in humbucker territory but there's something about these which really work for me – putting one in coil tap and then switching to the middle position is a tone I've not had on any other guitar and one I shall be using a lot. This is the first prs I’ve ever owned and I have to say if this is the quality prs puts out for their SE line, I can only imagine how good the core models are! I mostly play heavier stuff (djent, deathcore, death metal, etc.) and with the right eq settings these pickups do just fine. But they really shine with lower gain and crunch scenarios. I love playing jazz or doing some chicken pickin with the multiple sounds you can get out of the wiring setup. Superrrr versatile, very well built for an Indo guitar. My only complaint is the glossy neck, since I mostly play leads. But that can be solved fairly easily. It’s an easy guitar to play and it plays like butter. Stays in good tune even with whammy abuse. No sharp fret ends, fret buzz, high action, bad intonation etc. played great out of the box with a tuning. Now the only thing I would “upgrade” on this guitar are the tuners to locking tuners. Overall: I received 2 of these from zZounds. The first one had chips in the paint in several places, the frets were trash. The fretboard on the sides had bad dings and scratches. I returned it. They sent me another one (that took 5 days to get to me after they lied about when it was shipped), when it arrived it was in much better shape. At least the paint was. Right out of the box the frets needed a $100 fret job. The trem claw screws were put in at such a bad angle it was pressing against the back plate. It would not stay in tune for anything. I replaced that one with an RGAIX6 Iron Label Ibanez. Right out of the box it was a superior guitar. I'll never buy another Sterling again.Anthony

Overall: I was at a big Guitar shop near the Center of town looking at strats. Found an excellent American strat from 2013 for $800 that i was all set to take home. I saw this sterling MAJ100 on a stand next to the amp i was using to test the strat and decided to play it on a whim…… WOW! Totally blown away. I've played other Ernie Ball electrics that were much more expensive and played like an expensive guitar. What surprised me about this MAJ100 is that it played WAYYY beyond it's price.The tone and volume nobs are fantastic. Totally impressed. They work effectively with no degradation to the sound at all. This guitar is comfortable. extremely light, well balanced, and the resonance is insane. Frankly when i picked it up it was so light it felt like a toy guitar. Like it's hollow or plastic or something. When i played it though, even unplugged, it clearly resonates like a serious instrument. Even with the amp in my face i felt each note clearly resonate through the guitar. Reminded me of an acoustic almost. Despite trying, and owning, many other guitars (gibsom, fender, prs, ibanez, as far as electrics go) this sterling sold me on it's merits. Not looks though. Initially i HATED the looks. They are growing on me but i think it's because of how stellar this guitar is in ALL other areas. The only thing i wish it had was a way to split the coils.Try this guitar.Sam

Overall: First off I'd like to respond to the previous reviewer. He stated that there was zero sustain with the 594. The specs state that the pickups are LT which means Low Turn. The guitar was built for the vintage gang out there and these particular pickups are not high output but that's nothing that a boost pedal won't remedy. Had the previous reviewer researched this instrument, he would have found that the pickups excel in clarity and definately have the vintage vibe. What Paul was trying to do was make an instrument that would have followed the progression of a Les Paul. Also if the reviewer wanted a guitar for anything including hard rock and metal, he should have picked up the Custom 22 or 24. With that being said, I love this model and have had one for several years. I will also be buying another one but a single cut this time in March. If you want quality buy a PRS or Music Man. You just can't go wrong with PRS..Matt
Overall: I've had several PRS guitars, from core Custom 24s to SE's to S2's. This example is an S2 McCarty 594. It feels nice, looks nice and plays nice. That's about the extent of it. It doesn't do anything to excite the senses. I have a Prestige Heritage Standard that just begs to be played and is inspiring. These guitars, while solid, are just kind of "meh". There is one thread that I find runs through most, if not all PRS guitars I've tried; I absolutely do not like PRS pickups. The ones in this McCarty are very dull, like a blanket has been thrown over them. No clarity, they're just "there". In summary, these are good guitars, but you'd really need to spend some additional money to make them great. Whether or not you want to go down that road is, of course, up to you. But no matter what, zZounds is awesome, and they are my go-to retailer. Very easy to deal with.Keith
Overall: Great guitar for every sound youre looking for. I love the width of the neck. If you have shorter fingers I wouldn't recommend this guitar because of the neck is a little thicker. The sound and playability of this guitar is amazing. Vintage les paul feel but with a slightly newer modern sound. Its my favorite guitar out of all the guitars I own.

I bought this guitar and the very next night participated in an extended jam session. We played for hours and I never got tired and worn out from fighting with the guitar. It was extremely easy to play and the varied tones I got from very clean to overdriving the amp's preamp were spot on. Everyone listening were impressed with how good the guitar sounded. I use all the pick-ups combinations but I always have on a s-style guitar, but these are as good and “consistent “ across each pickup. I have spent too much time on this exposition about my Silver Sky. The best way for me to describe the guitar is I love to play it and when I am not playing it , I’m thinking about playing it. I had the opportunity to play a Silver Sky locally through a vintage Super Reverb and pretty much knew from the first note that I would be owning this guitar! All the switch positions provide a usable palette of sound. The tone controls then allow you to fine tune that sound and they work in a very controlled and balanced fashion. I just kept dialing around and found all the clean and slightly driven sounds I was looking for. And the neck is butter! Having seen JM's instagram video explaining the initial idea behind introducing this guitar, then the 3 year process of bringing it to life, I had to admit I was all in. I can't tell you how many Saturdays were spent driving to every music shop in town looking for the "one" perfect "S-style" guitar. Usually, playing dozens or more, maybe finding one, often finding none. What if the perfect guitar (by JM's specs) could be made 100 out of 100 times? That was the challenge put to PRS, and from what I've experienced so far, I think they've pulled it off! While I do believe in supporting my local music stores, the AMS payment plans available made a purchase of this sort much more palatable. Having purchased guitars through AMS previously, I was also confident the guitar I would receive would be spot on. I was not disappointed. The build quality is pure PRS and the setup was perfect. If you are looking for a Strat style single pickup guitar that will provide tone for days, look no further!Marty S.
This is a beautiful instrument. I was initially a bit hesitant about the 7.25” radius as it’s not something I’ve ever spent much time playing on, but after a half hour or so it felt comfortable. The neck carve is also girthy, as you’d expect from a vintage styled instrument, but it all feels very natural. Those pickups. Wow. Dynamic, great clarity, and very usable tones in all positions. The usual PRS quality generally applies, and the finish of the instrument is great. However, if I was nitpicking I really dislike the feeling of the tone and volume controls under my fingers. They look absolutely fine, but they feel lightweight, thin and almost slightly gritty in their roll, and that seems out of place with the feeling of the rest of the instrument. It also doesn’t come with a hard case, as you’ll be aware as the listing is clear about that, but I feel that’s a little cheap of PRS at this price point. The gigbag is good quality anyway, though. Overall, though, this is totally worth the money. It’s a very PRS-ey/JM-ey take on a strat, obviously, but it also has great character all of it’s own. First off, I've been a bit of a Fender fanboy for a long time. Like many people, I have often scoffed at the idea of paying ultra-lux money for a copy of a strat. But this past weekend I went to my local GC to play the Fiore and, MCCarty and some CU24s, some more Fenders and even a couple of Les Pauls. After two hours in the room, I came home with an Orion Green SS. I just simply could not stop playing it. So comfortable to hold and play, once my hand adjusted to the neck shape. But the tone immediately grabs you as being full and round, bright enough, and not nearly as overly-harsh as my Am Pro2 can be. Build quality and finish was excellent, and this thing was so fresh that buffing compound is still coming to the surface after playing. Fantastic guitar that probably won't make me sell off my Fenders, but definitely inspires and excites me to play. So happy I finally got one.Jason

This is straight up quality! Awesome looking guitar with maple fretboard with black bird inlays. Blue burst with the maple neck looks fantastic. Neck is thin and fast-love it. Love me a Floyd! Fit and finish are First time trying out mojo tone pickups and was blown away. Clean up very nicely and can bring the heaviness when needed. Pickguard has light pick scratches. a few #2 pencil lead sized dimples on the back of body, near the back plate. light swirling in the nitro. a few very small spots on the body where the nitro has a haze and a 1/4" then rub mark near the gibson logo. these will not show up in pics. to be able to see it, you have to have it at the right angle, in the right light. back plate still has the protective plastic. professionally uv inspected for breaks, cracks, repairs, and resprays. deep cleaned, frets polished, fingerboard oiled, and a new set of 10s installed. 6 lbs 15.3 oz. includes gibson ohsc with case candy.

It combines very well with the pedals I like to use, and when also adjusting the tone knob you can really do a lot of things to adjust your tone. It's an awesome guitar to hold and feels very high quality. It came set up well and was ready to go right out of the box. Overall: This is my second Gibson. I had a gold top a few years ago that I just couldn't bond with. Being a "Telecaster guy" I loved the idea of one pickup and two knobs, like an Esquire without the switch. The shorter scale made it more enticing.The fit and finish is perfect. What I thought was black around the tobacco center and back is actually a maroon tinted mahogany. I didn't notice this until I took it outside in direct sunlight.The fretwork and tuners feel very nice as does all of the hardware. The case is very solid and there is a nice Gibson strap and multi-tool inside.Shipping was next day and free! I didn't leave a Manufacturer Support rating as I just recently received the guitar, and to be honest, I don't think I'll ever need it.Submitting the review I was notified that I needed a Manufacturer Support rating, so I'll give it one star.Tim
Really an awesome guitar. Gibson is back. It was immediately playable out of the box. Stretched the strings, tuned it up, and played. Frets are level. No issues with flat spots or buzzing. Intonation is fine… Close enough for rock n roll. Finish is immaculate. Fattest neck I've ever played. The P90 definitely snarls. Back off the volume, and it cleans up. Sounds incredible through my Marshall. Definite 60 cycle hum with lots of gain, but no surprise there. I bought this on sale here at MF and think it's a good value. Can't understand the reviews that talk about it being overpriced. They obviously thought theirs were with the price as they bought them. Price isn't often the sum of materials and labor plus a small percentage for profit. Look at the price of Apple products. Their cost of components and manufacturing labor per phone are probably in single digits. Anyway this guitar rocks.Honey Badger

Some people say prs just “ripped off a strat and put an ugly headstock on it” Dude fender could NEVER achieve this quality. Strats are awesome, and obviously inspired this instrument, but I’ve played 60’s and 70’s strats, and modern American strats in the silver sky price range. Not a single one has EVER had the response, the feel, the tone, or the magic that this guitar has. I loved the rosewood prs and was about to purchase one until they announced the maple fretboard. Had to wait about 6 months on preorder and it was more than worth every penny and every bit of waiting. The pickups have such a beautiful vintage feel. And it is warm, instead of “ice picky” like some strats can get some times. The tone knobs on this guitar are more responsive than any guitar I’ve ever played, and give all 5 pickup voicings multiple tonal shapes. The bridge system is comfortable, very well made. The guitar is light, comfortable, and can handle such a beautiful variety of genres and tones. Fretboard is like BUTTERRRRR when you bend notes. It’s addicting. And I love the aesthetic of the hollow birds. If you’re thinking about getting one just do it.JG

Overall: The first guitar I bought myself was a PRS SE Custom 24, it was an amazing guitar especially for a beginner. As I played more I found that I didn't like the finished neck, the fret work wasn't as good as it could be and the pickups weren't the tone I wanted.So I started looking around. A friend of mine showed me his PRS CE and after playing it I was sold. His was the matte black, but when I went on zZounds I saw several colorways that I liked. A few of them had pictures of the actual guitar, so I picked one that had beautiful figuring.The neck, fretwork, and setup are all amazing. This guitar played perfect right out of the box. The pickups sound amazing and the ability to split the coils for complete tonal diversity.My signal chainPRS CE24JHS Muffuletta Ibanez TS808 Fender Blues-Deluxe Reissue As to the case vs gig-bag issue. I prefer a gig-bag, but I wish it had come with the same one that the Silver Sky comes with instead of one that seems almost the same as the SE gig-bag.
This is my second CE and my third PRS. I also own a Custom 22 core model from 2019 and I previously owned a late 90's CE. Upon first inspection I was disappointed by the newer CE changes. The previous CE models were very similar to the core models (IE: Arch top, hardware, electronics) only with a bolt on neck. The new CE model felt like it was lower cost with the slimmer body, SE hardware but still gave you the 85/15 set. However!! once you sit down with one you'll see they were going for a different player experience not a lower production cost. The Slimmer body means less weight. The core models are amazing but kind of uncomfortable to sit down with because of the body weight. The CE melds with your body. It is hands down the most comfortable PRS I have played. Now the sound does change a little between the two because of the lower mass but it is by no means bad. I am a Metal player by trade but when I plugged this into my Mesa Triple Rect. I found myself zoning out on blues riffs for hours. This guitar is a dream to play, buttery mids, tight lows and sweet highs. The neck just melts to your hands without any issues. I will certainly be holding on to this one for many, many, years.J
I bought this because I was in the market for a US guitar and I already had a US Strat. I was thinking about a Gibson Les Paul Classic and then PRS showed up on my radar. I did some research and decided to play both. I have an Epiphone Les Paul so I thought I would prefer the Gibson. I played this guitar first and the Les Paul just didn't feel right after that. I bought this one a couple weeks later. After having it for an extended period (12 hours) I started thinking about selling my Strat and buying a Silver Sky. This guitar just felt so good I didn't want anything else. The neck feel is fantastic. The tone options are amazing The color is sooooooo much more vibrant in person than in pictures It is sitting in the rack in the other room while I type this and I wish I was playing it right now. It was totally worth every penny and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a true quality instrument.Jay P
