Drop G Tuning 7 String Guitar For Sale (2024 Update)

Honestly this guitar has become one of my favorites that I have ever played. The neck has a very fine finish so there's no need to worry about any kind of lacquer slowing down your fretting hand, the wood they used is very good quality and built to last, the fishman pickups are a wonderful choice for the chunky low metal riffs and for the resonating cleans. The angled frets are something that took me a bit to get used to but after about a day it felt like normal and is a great edition, and of course the locking tuners and pull out pot are just a great bonus. Honestly I'd say for $1,200 this guitar gives you great bang for your buck, sounds amazing, is absolutely fun to play and I would highly recommend this guitar for anyone wanting a guitar that looks cool, plays metal amazingly and gives you a wonderful dimension of sound. All my friends I have let play this guitar all feel the same way and have been thinking about getting a guitar like this one cause it definitely kicks some ass!Jøhnny Därkness

This is an absolute killer in every aspect. It looks incredible. You wouldn't believe the different colors that come out of this thing in different light and different angles, and since it's more of a shiny satin finish than a gloss, it doesn't show any dirt or fingerprints, so it pretty much always looks pristine and beautiful. It sounds incredible. Bright, melodic cleans, creamy leads, and when you start to crank your distortion and overdrive, it can deliver uncomprimising brutality while sacrificing nothing in clarity or definition. Fishmans are the real deal, folks. It feels incredible. Nice, fast attack on your low strings and light, easy tension on your high strings. Neck is comfortable, fanned frets feel good, and two-hand tapping is easier than I've ever experienced. Finally, the features. The luminescent logo and side dots definitely look cool, but they only glow super bright when you hold them under a bright light for a bit, and then they fade pretty quickly. I honestly can't see them being all that helpful when you're playing in the dark. The two-way voicing switch is basically a substitute for the traditional tone knob. Honestly I don't miss the knob, on my other guitars I pretty much only had them in two positions anyway, all the way up or all the way down, anything inbetween and you couldn't really hear a difference, so this is a good way to keep things simple. The pickup switch is a bit odd for me, the forward position puts you on the bridge pickup and the back position puts you on neck pickup, which is the opposite of every other guitar I've ever owned or held, but it's not a problem. It also does not get in the way of your strumming as it might look like. The real stars of the show are the locking tuners. They're great, they make restringing and tuning this thing a breeze, and the strings virtually never go out of tune despite me brutalizing them with my exaggerated string bending. I own this and its sister 6 string (light blue burst w/ dark edges). They are both incredible guitars, but this one feels just a little better. The feel is out of this world smooth. The neck, fretboard, frets, etc. are butter – it's perfect. The action is low and was perfect out of the box. I've messed around with different strings and tunings and the intonation remains perfect and it stays in tune better than any guitar I've owned. The fishman pups are HOT they're a little hard to tame but sound noticeably better than active emgs when DI recording; it's hard to describe but they're so rich in harmonics and add excitement to recordings. The flat finish is smooth and perfect; I've taken a little guff from band mates about a 'purple' guitar but it's beautiful – there's a thin border of paint on it that changes color depending on the angle you look at it. 5 stars for this guitar, and 4.5 for its sister 6 string.Gary

I've got 3 Schecters if that tells you anything. I have an Apocalypse and a Silver mountain. I bought this for my lady. It's got a slightly thinner neck than the regular "Thin C", it's thinner but not narrower. It came "ready to play"…but to make it even better required a very slight neck adjustment, a couple of the saddles raised…and most importantly for me…the pickups WAY too close and it made it sound "busy" to me…too much going on…chaos. I lowered them to 1/16 treble and 1/8 bass…and they've really improved…I can hear individual notes in the chords where before it was a noisy mess. To the other reviewer wanting to change pickups…try lowering or raising them and see if it improves. This isn't a $1000+ guitar and it shows in the little details…the carve of the body…rounding the neck/frets…the finish…it's not up to the Apocalypse or Silver mountain…but it's a FINE guitar.Joe Rocker

Overall: I wanted to wait a while before I reviewed this instrument just to make sure the new guitar bias wore off first. The first thing I wanna say about this guitar is the tuning stability is crazy good, and I'm sure that's because of the black tusq nut. This guitar stays in tune better than some of the more expensive guitars I own and that really surprised me a lot. The tuners feel sturdy and the bridge is very easy to set up. The neck is super thin, and access to the higher frets is superb. I also really like how the inlays are done on this guitar. As I'm getting older it's harder for me to see where I'm at and having the inlays switch to the bottom of the fretboard after the 12th is super nice. I will say though that while I love the neck, it was also one of the only parts of the guitar that required some work on my part. Out of the box, I did have to level the frets a tiny bit to get the strings as low as I like them to be. It's a minor complaint since I like my strings VERY low, but it is worth mentioning especially since this guitar is around the price-point where these kinds of issues shouldn't be as expected. I'm not gonna cover too much on the sound of this guitar because you can make any guitar sound good with enough processing, but I'd say that the pickups in this guitar sound perfectly fine on their own and I have no plans of changing them out. The tone of the bridge pickup is beefier than you'd expect which you may or may not like. The neck pickup is honestly my favorite, it's very warm sounding and has none of that harsh sharpness that I personally can't stand. Overall the pickups are just comfortable to listen to, which makes them perfect for mixing. To top it all off, it's a very pretty-looking guitar. I got the Sky Burst one and I find myself still looking at it and admiring it. With ALL of that said though, I would say that this guitar best suits someone who is intermediate, but at the same time I think that more advanced players will love the playability if they're willing to put in some minor effort to take the guitar a bit further.Patty

This guitar is nearly perfect in every way! The decibel booster and coil split functions are super easy to use when all you have to do is push instead of pull. The craftsmanship is impeccable! I'm a big Floyd Rose fan and was a little skeptical about the Music Man tremolo, but paired with the Schaller locking tuners, this thing holds as good a tuning as my original Floyd's do. I'm able to dive bomb, flutter and scream with this thing! I'm a huge fan of Jason Richardson and am very impressed with this signature/custom guitar. I'm not a fan of artist's signature instruments, but this guitar is definitely built for musicians who want to encompass a wide range of sounds without sacrificing playability. I only say it is nearly prefect because I wish it came with all of the tools to fine tune the instrument(had to tighten the swing of the tremolo arm) and did not come with the specifications of how or what is needed to make these adjustments. This is my first 7 string in 20 years and my first guitar over $1200 and it is absolutely amazing! Worth every penny. It looks better in person than in the pictures. The onboard boost is amazing! Very versatile as well, you can get anything from single coil sounds to full on high gain humbuckers, from jazz/blues to freaking metal! I’m not even a big metal player, I mainly wanted the 7th string for more range and to inspire some more creativity. I should have gotten a 7 a long time ago. The strings don’t go out of tune even when you dive bomb all the way down. I’ve only tuned it maybe 3 times in the last month and I’ve played it almost everyday. I have a strat and a Schecter PT Apocalypse and this is the best of both worlds. Highly recommend this guitar to anyone!Brandon P.

The is one the of the best guitars out there for the money. The action on the neck is awesome. Stays in tune and looks awesome. This guitar is great for detuning and differnt tunings because of the fixed bridge. The pickups aren't the greatest, but if you are a good guitarist you can make any guitar sound good. I loved the flight case that came with it. It was molded perfectly to the guitar's fit. The overall tone of it is amazing. Ibanez is by far the best when it comes to solid body 7 strings. My Mitchell MS450 (single cutaway LP style guitar) came with D'Add's, which sounded decent. When I switched them out, I went with the GHS 10's on a hunch based on things I've heard. Great move! Nice, brilliant tone, rings out for eternity if you let them! I have heard that the GHS 9's are really good on Strat style guitars, so GHS might be my go to on my Squier Strat Classic Vibe next string change.Joe

I used 11's from D'Addario for years and I would break a string consistently for every show that I played. I do not know why I kept with D'Addario for so long. I figured I needed to have a heavier string gauge for durability and better tone. Searched around and came across these strings in the heavy gauge, and I could not be happier with them. These strings have great sustain, are durable, do not corrode as quickly as other brands I have used in my professional career playing music, and, despite their heaviness, are easy to play in standard tuning. Along with playing well with a pick and fingers, these strings also sound terrific when playing slide. You can get the same great tones out of these strings that Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks have with their lighter gauges, as well as channeling the fat tones that you hear from Duane Allman from the Fillmore East show. Great Garcia tones can come from these strings as well. Basically what I am saying is that you can still get those classic guitar sounds on these heavy strings without feeling like your losing tone or playing opportunities utilized by the players that inspire you who may use lighter string gauges. These strings also (as far as I know) have a round core instead of a hex core. I think that might be a reason why these strings have so much sustain, especially when you have some distortion or overdrive keeping them warm while playing lead. If you are on the fence about getting these, I recommend you give them a try just see how they work for you. They are no that expensive and its worth it to figure out what works for you as a player. Took a while to get used to the rougher feel compared with the EB 8s. But will probably order another set for the goldtop, and a set for my ES295.Joe S.

. Now let me set the scene… I am a guitar lover (I can even play a little too) and a quality professional so My expectations are somewhat higher than most looking at this product. An absolutely beautiful instrument, this is my second SA360 and although they are no longer. Made in Japan, be assured they have not lost any of the build quality or attention to detail. The guitar was really well set up, is great to play, feels good in the hand and sounds the bee’s knee’s. If you are looking to start out in guitar playing get yourself an Ibanez Gio to start as a first upgrade from that, then the SA series is where you want to be at.Timbo

Overall: I read some of these negative reviews and can't understand what they're talking about. This guitar is probably the best guitar for $200 I ever played , right out of the box it was setup perfectly. All I did was tune it , I've even got the same strings it came with. Which I normally change whenever I get a new guitar. The tuners are unbelievably tight , this guitar barely goes out of tune even if it has been sitting for weeks. Also I never attached the whammy bar , so I can't speak on that throwing it out of tune. Since I have over a dozen guitars I don't usually play it daily , but when I do it always makes me glad I purchased it. This is a very versatile guitar , I play mostly metal and this thing shreds. But I also play blues and it sounds just as good as my custom strat. I bought an Epiphone SG special in the same price range and let's just say the setup is night and day , the tuners absolutely sucked , "already replaced them" and the intonation was off. It was a mess , I've already put it on Craig's list and bought a G400 Pro instead , 10x better quality and setup , but I digress. I've got many high priced guitars but always go back to the GRX , the playability and neck feels so comfortable to play. The only thing I'm going to do eventually is throw in a Seymour Duncan humbucker and I'm definitely keeping this guitar. I don't know how Ibanez can sell this for $200 and keep the quality , but I'm certainly not going to complain. Whether you're a beginner or experienced this guitar delivers. Definitely will be purchasing another Ibanez down the road.Mike

I read a lot of reviews on this guitar before purchasing. Most common complaints revolved around tuning stability. I was expecting mine to go out of tune every 2 minutes. Not my experience at all. It seems to be strung with 10's, and holds tuning very well. Pick ups sound warm and tight. When I eventually upgrade I'll probably do the nut and tuners, but those are by no means urgent. There are so minor finish flaws, but i bought this guitar to play, not to stare at it. For less than £200, you really can't go wrong. Delivery was on time and without hassle.Ben A.

Sound: Does not have the cleanest sound due to the picks. Putting the right pedals and effects in line and cranking up the distortion makes it an awesome beginner / intermediate metal guitar. Features: For the price the materials feel great. Ease of Use: It sounds great on my Fender Champion 20 or Positive Grid Spark amp. Not the cleanest tone but a great metal sound and extremely easy to play. Quality: It feels made well, especially in the $200 range. I feel like this is one I'll have for years and once I get better definitely see this is a good platform for future mods. Value: This guitar is excellent value and at this price an amazing guitar. Manufacturer Support: I have not dealt with Ibanez. The Wow Factor: I must admit the aesthetic. It's extremely hard to find good looking purple color-based guitars. Purple is my favorite color and a hard one to find good guitars in. It looks great. It feels great and I have yet to find any significant issues with it. No problems with the frets or fret buzz. Action is easy and low. It sounds great with my Positive Grid Spark amp. The pickups sound great. The HSH setup is very versatile. Not the greatest with clean tones like my Stratocaster, but amazing with the right effects.Josh

This is a fantastic 7 string for the price. First off, it looks more expensive than it is, and the satin finish is beautiful. More importantly though, it just feels right. The minute you pick it up and start chugging you feel at home. I was surprised how nice the pick ups are, too. This is without a doubt the best inexpensive 7 string. It costs a little more than a few of the others, but it is well worth it because the main reason for the price difference is the electronics are actually pretty good. It's perfect for what I got it for, unleashing low snarly growls great for any kind of heavy playing. I use a Line 6 Spider III and can get some surprisingly nice beefy tones out of this thing. Overall it looks and sounds like a more expensive guitar (sounds as good or better than my KH202) and feels great. Schecter makes some amazing guitars, including this one.JB

This is a fairly good guitar, and for the price it's definitely a great value. I can't find really anything wrong with the actual sound of the guitar. Sure the stock pickups are not the best in the world, but they are a good starting point, and with the right tweaking you can get some great sound from them. As far as build quality, the important things are taken care of. The fret ends an unnoticeable, and smooth across the entire neck. It did come set up from the factory with fairly low action, but in standard tuning and 1-step down it sounds great. It was well intonated and there is no fret buzz at all that I can tell. The tuners hold up well even after hours of playing, and unless I choose to change tunings there hasn't been any need to retune constantly like with some cheaper tuners on some lower end models. Really the only thing negative I would have to say so far is something that I feel is insignificant to warrant any removal of stars. I thoroughly examined every inch of the body for defects and there is only a small miniscule pinhole sized mark on the entire things, it literally looks like someone barely poked it with the tip of a pencil before it was painted, and you can only notice it holding the guitar completely sideways and look for it. The other thing that was off was that the tone switch was basically tightened backwards. The front position is the bridge and the back position is the neck. Fixing that would just be a matter of just untightening it and rotating it, but I have actually chose to just leave it be for the time being. The overall quality and has made those two things not matter in the slightest. I would definitely recommend this for a good budget friendly 7 string. It's really a good barebones guitar that focuses on the the value of components rather than just a flashy veneer that makes up the majority of the price. If you value playability and getting good bank for your buck, this is definitely the way to go.Charlie

I tried heavier ones, they felt difficult and I had to down tune a lot. These one can be regular pitch or half down and even one whole step down in tuning and will stay fine. Drop to G for the bottom string will make that string just a bit sloppy however, but not bad. I like to play 10-46, and have done so for years just playing for myself creating new tones and tunes with 6 string ones. But 10-58 (7) sets become too heavy for me and bending hurts my finger joints. On my Ibanez RG7620, I have consistently used this set for 10 years I believe. Other brands have 9-52 7 string sets, but this is just a bit beefier 9-56. That is hard to find. They do not feel much less heavy in sound than 10-56 ones but are definitely easier to play. I got a 7 string that comes with 10-58 with 26.5" scale, I will change that one to 9-54 too. I have experimented and to try to reduce damage to my finger joints and tendons in the arm I may switch to 9's on 6 string guitars too. On 7-string guitars this is the only one that works for me. If you work out and have very strong forearm muscles, then heavier strings will be fine. I am sticking with the 9-54. I have not found another set with a 54 as the bottom string with 9 gauge for the rest. Life of strings: they last long, but not longer than Elixir or DR. They lose a bit of brightness and settle at a nice level and stay at this for months. I wish I could get this set in a coated version also. If you play the same 7 string every day 4 to 5 hours, I estimate with shred playing, change strings in two months (if you alway clean them after playing). I have had mine in for over 6 months now, i use a string cleaner. Every gauge has its own benfits and some cons, try several. They are ALL fun. I highly recommend these.7 string experimenter

Its not super flashy and wont really capture any attention on stage but it does its job. Its a solid guitar, way better built than other guitars in its price range. Solid construction, great overall build quality, amazing tone and awesome pickups for the price range. Great 7 string to get your foot in the door if you are usually a 6 string player and if it doesnt work out for you you are not out alot of money and has decent resale value. I am going to get more comfortable with this guitar before buying a more expensive 7 string and use this as my backup 7 string while gigging. No regrets here or complaints. Overall: Man, I can’t believe this guitar was less than 400 bucks. This is my First 7 string. I got it as an experiment just to see if a 7 string had any appeal. Well it did. It does.I did have to do a little work on the nut. The neck had a hard D profile that was irritating, so I shaved the shoulders and reshaped the neck. Fits like a glove now. I don’t know what people expect in this price range, but this guitar was bang for the buck rich.I found the stock humbuckers to be adequate. Tone and volume controls worked. No static in the five way switch. The pickups sound tight enough on the bottom.You won’t get any more 7 string bang for the buck until you spend twice as much.Scott

Sound: The sound quality is pretty good believe it or not with the stock pickups, definitely have enough distortion to get pinch harmonics anywhere that I can on my Seymour Duncan JB equipped Schecter C-1. Although, the 7th string (B) or in my case G# can be a little muddy but this is why I also picked up a Dimarzio Crunch Lab and Liquifire to replace the stock pickups. But for now, it does fit my musical style pretty well which is mostly groove/progressive metal (or the cliche Djent term). It sounds great with other low gain music as well too, the 5 way selector which offers single coil mode is pretty useful. Clean sounds are pretty good . Keep in mind I'm only running through a Line 6 Spider II. Tips for making it sound better, would be include some dimarzios, or duncans as stock pickups which I know would increase the price but most of us are going to replace them anyways. Features: The most useful feature I would say is the 5 way switch, giving a variety of sounds. This is a pretty basic set up, so I wouldn't say there is anything useless at all. It has 7 inline tuners which I feel are more stable than the grovers on my schecter, they are nice and tight. It has a 25.5" bolt on (vs. my set through Schecter) maple neck with rosewood fingerboard with a more D shape to the neck, but also pretty thin compared to my schecter (a beefier U/C shape neck). The transition is actually quite comfortable coming from my 6 string. A flattop basswood body with 2 humbuckers, a 5 way switch, and volume (which I find gets in the way when trying to sweep pick, but I'll just have to adjust my playing style) and tone knobs. It also has a gotoh hardtail bridge. Ease of Use: It's very easy to get clean sounds out of this guitar, the distortion is pretty good as well, again a little bit of mud on the 7th string when tuned lower. It's easy to use with my amp, it's plug and play. Learning curve, is actually little to none it was an easy transition. It's very playable, the neck is fast and the bridge is comfortable. The body also has a nice belly cut and relief for your forearm. Quality: This product is assembled in Indonesia, my Schecter was in Korea. With that being said, I do think the Schecter's fit and finish is better but not too far ahead of the Ibanez. But, you get what you pay for with a $400.00 guitar. I bought this knowing it was not going to be a premium or prestige model. I haven't had it long, so I can't relaly comment on it's reliability. But from what I have seen so far, it feels very ruggedly made and everything feels nice and solid. Value: I think this product is 100% worth it's asking price. It's a solid guitar, the stock tone is great under clean/slightly overdrive tones, and acceptable under high gain. Again, to have it come stock with better pickups would increase the cost further. So for this price, it is very much worth it. Playability is great, loving the Ibanez Wizard neck. Manufacturer Support: I have not dealt with Ibanez before, but I have dealt with zZounds before. They are easy to get ahold of and very friendly. I have not yet had any problems with zZounds and very much enjoy the play as you pay plan. The Wow Factor: I find this guitar very appealing, especially with the white finish. What makes it even more appealing is the price and the stock features it comes with. I could have bought a baritone 6, but I've wanted a 7 for awhile. It just offers more tonal and range opportunities. Overall: In short, great guitar for the $. Stock pickups leave a little to be desired when down tuning. Playability is excellent. Quality is definitely acceptable, but not above and beyond.Kory

Once I switched to seven strings I was looking for strings that would give me good tension for drop A, a tuning commonly used on seven strings. However, many stock strings only go up to about 56-ish and consider that a "ultra heavy gauge." Considering I used 10-52 on my six string in drop C#, this wouldn't be nearly enough. Thankfully I found these strings and got them. They have the perfect tension for tuning below standard on the low string(s) without being to heavy on the higher-pitched strings. Don't expect to be able to pull off drop F# without issues, but try these out if you want a good metal sound with fantastic tension.Brian Dice

I use this pack on a six string (drop the 10) when tuning a regular scale guitar to C. They drop in perfectly, and the tension is great tuned as such. I find that they stay "tighter" and don't flop around as much as every other brand of string I have used. The sound is full and rich, without being too muddy. I use them on an Explorer and a Flying V, with both passive and active pickups, and they kick ass OUT LOUD!Chris

These strings seem to have more bite and attack. Clarity is key here with these things. Very clear on every string. I will buy again for my 7 string guitar. Being tuned low and having the clear voicing come through is pleasant. Thank youMatthew

I was talked into buying these strings about a month ago by a sales associate at the Guitar Center in Jackson, Ms. Said they were the best strings Earnie Ball had to offer. I can now say that I disagree. I love Earnie Ball strings, don't get me wrong, but these are by far the worst I have purchased. I had them on for two weeks and played on them five times. Put my bass in its case after every session. Within a week, I started noticing that they were gaining rust. Dispite the fact that I cleaned them. By the time the second week came, they looked like they had been left in the rain for months. I don't recommend these strings to anyone. The steel and nickel strings, yes, buy those. I love them. But these new cobalt strings are a waste of money. Thankfully my local Guitar Center took care of me and gave me a free pack of strings when I showed them the wear and tear they had gained over a course of two weeks. I'll say again, don't buy these strings. You will be disappointed.Van Lee

I play mostly in a blues band, and like a fat, thick tone with lots of bottom and some midrange punch. I was excited about these strings after hearing about their increased output. However, for my purposes I find that they have too much ring and higher frequency harmonics and overtones, and don't give me that down and dirty sound I'm looking for. Perhaps after using them while they will mellow out and give a more pleasing tone. But for now I would say these would be best for slap and pop, where you want a real strong response in the higher registers. I used to own a 1990 Ibanez Universe 77MC 7 string guitar and I loved the way that guitar played. It had a nice feeling neck and the Edge Low-Pro bridge worked great. Not to mention, it was a bad-ass looking guitar! Multi-colored swirl by Darren Johansen, 3-color disappearing pyramid inlay, Edge Low-Pro tremolo with cosmo black hardware (see photos for comparison). I mention all that because I regret to say I sold that guitar and was missing my Ibanez Universe. So, I decided to buy another one that wouldn't soak my finances and bought a new Ibanez Universe UV70PBK Green Dot 7 string guitar. There are significant differences in the feel and playability compared to the original's. The UV70P's have a finish on the neck's almost like a clear coat varnish which seems to be a standard on the Ibanez Premium line of guitars. The original's didn't. They were more like a light tung oil finish. I do have to say, that the necks on the Premium line are designed to be a lot more sturdy than the original's, which is a good thing. The UV70P's have the new Edge-Zero II-7 bridge which doesn't have the same feel and response as the Edge Low-Pro. Supposedly the same basswood body, but they seem much lighter in weight that the original's. The pick-up's are the same, but the tone is just not quite thesame as well. And of course, another obvious difference is the the original's were made in Japan and the reissues are made in Indonesia which determines the quality somewhat. Don't get me wrong, these reissue's are still a good quality guitar, but once having an original Universe you can tell the difference in craftsmanship. I will probably keep my UV70PBK just so I can have a 7 string guitar again and it is a bad-ass looking guitar, but I will always regret selling my 1990 Universe 77MC which was for me, the Ultimate Universe!!!designrol

I ordered the Ibanez UV70P from the website which as stated took a few days to get stock and arrive (This was early December 2018). My only gripe was that on the website it stated a rosewood fretboard which is why I bought it as they were changing the fretboard wood due to rosewood being on the CITES endangered wood. The one they sent was a Panga Panga bound fretboard. Even to today (3rd Jan 2019) it still states rosewood on the website. After confirming with the online time I kept the guitar with just a few loyalty points added. I can live with the Panga Panga fretboard it does look good and feels okay. I did have an issue that there were no trem stud locks inserted into the bridge height adjustment screws. Spoke to distributor Headstock Distribution who sent 2 out. Review is 5 stars because the guitar itself is incredible, but the store it originated from had sent it in horrendous condition, which various issues and dusty enough that it may as well have been stored at a building site! Luckily I’ve fixed all the issues myself and the customer service has also recognised the issue and have provided brilliant support, so generally a great purchase after all, was a bit of a labour to get this back to working order, but all is fixed now.Tom C.
