I use it for slap bass. Still the best, still American made!!! Great tone, heavy-solid build quality. Don't get the competitor's lightweight copy. There's a reason why this hasn t changed much for over 40 years. It's a must and a mainstay for any pedal board. Extremely solid/ heavy. Note though if attaching to a pedal board. Feet has to stay on. If you remove the feet, it holds the bottom metal plate. If you remove the screws that hold the feet on and use them, they become too long and now the plate is loose. Fortunately my board had gaps that I was able to sink the feet into so the Velcro can catch onto the board. also the power input on the left is right under the output signal. Not the most ideal location when using an angled patch cable and trying to make your board look nice and neat.Rene

It's easy to use and so much fun when used with other effects. You'll really have a great time with this. My only issue was with the fact that the one I bought, inside packaging had been opened and box was a little dented but for the price I couldn't complain. For this review we'll just exclude Kirk, his playing style….or overuse of the wah itself and stick to the sound and use of this wah. After trying out the Dime wah, and a few others (still going to buy the Slash wah later) I decided on this one in particular for a few reasons. One it handles so well with a lot of gain going on, it does not get thin or cut out or sound like tin. This is great when it comes to that. Secondly, the graphics, while those aren't overall important I love the look of this pedal. Now, the downside is that is does not have that wide of a sweep, but the tone and great construction of the pedal make up for it. If you are in a Metallica cover band I say get it, I play a Gibson Les Paul, Fender Stratocaster through a Marshall Code 100 half stack (classic metal setting is near perfect) and can get those killer, sick wah sounds. This pedal is amazing, not only the graphics and paint are second to none especially under the lights on stage, the basic design of this pedal is solid and you can customize your solos with this thing. The build of this pedal is sturdy and Dunlop did a year job with this. Kirk has these pedals spread throughout the stage when he is playing and I can see why, if your looking for a fabulous and amazing sounding wah pedal, you must get this!! I replaced a Fulltone Clyde Deluxe with this wah in order to free up some space on my pedalboard for other things. I was surprised to find I actually like the sound of this mini Cry Baby better than my much more expensive boutique Fulltone wah. It takes a little getting used to the small size, but as long as you line up the back of your foot with the back edge of the pedal, it's easy to use. Don't try to use the front of your foot with it — it feels super awkward and is difficult to control if you do. Put it on the top row of your pedalboard so there's room for your foot to hang off the front edge. Now for the MAJOR problem: there's no LED to indicate when it's on. I only had to use it for one session to find this was driving me absolutely crazy. I ended up adding an indicator LED, but I have to warn that it's a little more involved than you might think. The bypass switch inside the pedal doesn't actually turn the circuit on and off, it just causes the input and output jacks to bypass the circuit. So there's no on/off switch to pull from for the LED. In order to add the LED, you need to replace the factory 2PDT on/off switch with a 3PDT switch so that can actuate the LED (you can pull power for the LED from right under the power jack). The 3PDT switch just BARELY fits (the gap to the pot mechanism is so thin I can't even see light through it). A standard 3PDT switch is actually a little shorter than the factory switch, so you need to add a little rubber pad to the top in order to make it tall enough to be able to push it with the wah pedal. Anyway, I don't expect the average person to do this mod and I don't know why they didn't do it from the factory.John R.

Overall: Great sounding just like its big brother. Even though the pedal is about the same size as a standard Tube Screamer it has all the travel you will need and engages/disengages very easily. Don't worry if you have big feet, it doesn't matter. You can use the front of your foot or the middle arch area and it moves naturally. Takes a tiny bit of adjustment if you are coming from a full size, but it's worth it for the space and weight it's going to save you. Highly recommend! I gave quality a 4 because the first one developed static on the input jack but the great folks at zZounds had a new one on my doorstep in a few days.Allan

Great pedal! You should buy one! Everything you’d expect from a Dunlop Cry Baby in a package no bigger than any other pedal on my board! Also like the adjustable torque setting to alter the stiffness of the pedal! On/Off switch is central so you don’t have to smash it down to operate it! I bought this pedal because I demoed it in a store and loved the variation of wah types I could get from it – it's certainly very versatile in that respect. As for build, it's a good solid case and mechanically it's very well put together, so no complaints there. What is surprising is that the electronics are (apparently) very cheap. Mine stop worked as a wah Pedal and would only work as a volume pedal. I researched this on the web and found out that it's a very common scenario with this pedal. Being technically minded, I decided to repair it myself (the common cause is a bad capacitor), but I must have spent an hour trying to get the circuit board out with no luck – the positioning of the trim knobs and the way that the two internal boards have been put together means that the only way to get the main board out is to break something. Sorry Dunlop, but this is not cool!Michael M

I have owned this pedal three different times. Had some issues with life changes and that's why. That being said, I always come back to it because it has so much versatility. It does have the usual wah pedal tone suck when its on, but the volume boost can fix that. I love that you can change the range of the q and also select between different tones with the chrome knob on the side. Best wah I've ever owned. Lots of options to customise your wah sound/sweep and a really handy booster switch that can be tapped with your foot. Found settings examples online and got it to nail that rich vocal sounding Jerry Cantrell style wah sound which is one of my favourite wah sounds on record. Loving it. Sounds great clean or with any level of gain. Inspired me to play clean Bob Marley and the Wailers style stuff using it one minute and heavy Tool style stuff the next. Paired it with some fuzz and before I knew it I was playing my favourite Ron Asheton and James Williamson riffs. Nails that Jimmy Page style cocked wah sound too. A bit of delay and you'll end up playing the whole of Led Zeppelin II. It just sounds absolutely fantastic for any style that uses wah. I used to have a GCB 95 wah a long time ago that I remember sounded excellent but could get very trebly when fully forward on the treadle- it's great you can dial in your personal preference. I've owned Vox's and Morley's which are brilliant in their own right but the Dunlop Crybaby sound just completely does it for me. Also one of the first things my partner said to me when I let her hear it is "did you buy that cos I told you how much I like Jimi Hendrix?". Can't think of any better endorsement than that! Pedal wouldn't click. Fixed by inserting a piece of felt. Rocking motion of pedal was a little stiff so I applied graphit grease on the threads. That seemed to work. Would be nice if the vendor would inspect these devices more thoroughly. I'm overall happy with it since I fixed all the bugs with it.chucsnyde-7

I got this wah pedal because it's needed for certain songs such as Money for Nothing – Dire Straits. I know that there are other brands of Wah pedals but some won't let you set it in one position and stay there when you take your foot off. But this one does and I like it. It seems to go through batteries quickly but it has an AC adapter which takes care of that problem. The Dunlop Wah pedals have heavy cast metal housings and are really durable. These pedals are expensive to buy new but this used one was more affordable, works perfectly and has the sound I wanted. The peddle works as expected. The only drawback is the short range of motion. Its easy to accidentally turn off the pedal, and makes it tougher to find tune your tone. Conversely, the short range also makes it easy to get the classic Wah sound.llyrin1951

I use the volume pedal in my signal chain almost more than the volume knob on my guitar. You can move it around from the effects loop or in front of the amp if your not getting the desired response. Dunlop makes a robust, durable and very responsive volume pedal. The only thing is that it looks exactly like my Dunlop Cry Baby Wah pedal.Chris

When I was a kid, I did not understand subtlety and tonal quality…whatever solid state amp and distortion/chorus set-up I could find was great…this pedal would have bored me to death. What little did I understand…the tone is just full and lush, like increasing your font from 10 to 12. There is a large amount of headroom for a 9v, very usable. The overdrive is very tasty once rolled on. It responds in such a transparent way (I played a clean sample loop through it so I could focus on what the controls actually do). I have a strong preference for a high degree of sag, but it would be usable in other ways, too. Combined with a good compressor and an eq, I have a newfound love of playing…lifelong humbucker/P90 fan and now I am just in love with the clarity and dynamic expression possible with a rich single coil on my strats and teles. It is worth money to make it fun; this pedal definitely makes playing fun for me.coopermatman

I pulled the trigger on this one to replace my malfunctioning 535q. Originally I was going to buy the Slash model but decided on this Dimebag Darrell version after doing much research. I am VERY pleased and surprised at the wiiide, deeeep and smooooth sweep Im getting with this thing! Both clean or with distortion, this wah just does NOT disappoint. Its really sweet! I cant wait to really experiment with it more and totally dial it in! YEAH!!! Aloha!hisurftv!

It has everything you need in a wah plus a number of unique features like the high-end adjustment and cool tension adjustment on the rocker. As others have pointed out, this is not a "metal" pedal even though it's Dime's signature. I really respect his playing; however, I don't own any Pantera albums and honestly am not into them. Not that it matters as much as the tone, but the camo is very unique and pretty cool in my opinion. As with other Dunlop pedals quality is top-notch. You won't be disappointed with the Crybaby From Hell!Blazer

I typically play 'old school rock n' roll', but the wah sounds great when the amp tone is cleaned up, too. Again, don't be discouraged if you can't set up 'your sound' in two minutes. Once you find it, you'll love it. The grip is awesome. No slippin'-and-a-slidin'. And yeah, maybe it's the guy in me, but the paint job is sick, too. The boost is a neat feature- easy to kick on with your foot, though I don't use it very much. But, it's there if you want it! Bottom line: It's a Crybaby. You can't go wrong. The wah has a very musical tone, vocal sounding enough for rock and blues lead playing, but the sweep goes high enough to be useful for funk rhythm playing or reggae skanking. It doesn't seem to get nasal or shrill when in the full toe down position. Sounds good playing rock lead solos as well as the theme from Shaft. I really have no use for the built in distortion. I tried it and was not impressed. According to the Jim Dunlop web site, it comes before the wah in the signal chain. What were they thinking? And if it sounded like one of the great classic distortion tones, fat, muscular and full of character and sustain, that would be one thing. But it sounds like a generic, buzzy sounding distortion. The Dunlop demo video claims it's a very complex circuit. I feel bad for them having put a lot of work into it. One possible use for it is keeping the gain level low and using it to just add a little extra gain and sustain. Or keep the gain down as low as possible and turn the level up and use the distortion circuit as a boost that kicks in when you kick in the wah.I Just Wanna Rock

Buy if you really want a beautiful bright Red Wah Wah Pedal with a distortion circuit if you need to reduce the effects you carry around. More for beginners who are discovering their tone and sound, not the holy grail of making you sound like SLASH – which it won't. Dunlop quality will give you confidence that the Pedal will always be there for you. Dual Mode Wah Wah with Distortion switch great for beginners who want both effects in one pedal and hope that plugging this pedal in will give you that SLASH sound. Buy the AC Power and save on the Dual 9V Power requirement that will eat up your battery budget. Like all Dunlop Wah's the construction is heavy duty quality, nice weight to foot action and smooth sweep. The Distortion activation switch is a small button top located on the lower right side that turn on with your foot. I hope it holds up under constant use. The Distortion sound is OK but not much variation in tone and complexity. There are many other Dual Mode Wah Pedals to consider with better OD/Distortion Circuits for a few extra dollars.Kevin Yew

This is the best version of the crybaby IMHO. It is spring-loaded and to engage the unit you just step on it(no tapping a switch to engage the wah) As described by many musicians it makes a great cocked wah as well I use stacks of picks to get the sound I want. It has a "Q" adjustment for tone and a pushbutton gain boost. You get all the above at a very nice price point. The sound is stellar and very musical. I love it.Greg

Well I have had this pedal for 2 years now so I thinks it's time I can provide a fair review. I play gigs almost daily with this thing on my pedalboard. I use it a lot too! love wahs for funk covers and solo work. I ran into an incident with the spring arm breaking at a gig a few weeks ago (the part that return the pedal to "up" position). It just snaped an fell out from underneath the rocker. Looking at it, it seems pretty solid, it's like 3-ply, just wore the hell out. kinda had some rust on it too from moisture which probably contributed. I like the auto return, but only sometimes. You cannot rock to a tone and leave it there, which ive now found I actually quite enjoy now that my auto return is broken. also, the delay from the time the effect disengages can be noticable & bothersome depending on what you're playing.Its a little overkill on the features though (it's a wah afterall)I don't want this thing adding color to my sound. The Q is something u would only do once to tune the thing to where you like it and then never touch. being exposed with a knob makes it suceptible to getting accidentally adjusted during transit and such.All in all, good pedal I guess. i dont think I would buy this one again for me, its overkill and mine broke(was well used for 2 years though)MudflapKing

I have had this pedal for 20 years, and just pulled it out of a gear bin covered in dust, and untouched for years. I fully expecting to have issues with it, and to my surprise it worked perfectly, and sounds great. The spring action return, and auto-off features are great, and there is none of the squeakiness that my other crybaby wah's develop over time. No idea why I stopped using this, but it's replacing my Kirk Hammett Wah on my board now.Shane Wright

I have to be honest, I bought this unit as much for the looks (the recessed Cry Baby logo integral to the carcass rather than the stick on name plate) than for the glowing reports on YouTube reviews which are notoriously biased. Often the reviewers are paid or at least given the pedal as a payment. I've owned a lot of factory and custom wahs, and I'm a bit jaded really. I was extremely impressed with the looks and more importantly the tonality. This is an extremely refined wah, It isn't a quacky and brash 'Shaft' type unit. It's really vocal, and the inductor is easily a match for the Fulltone mu metal unit. That '70s adult film' brash wah tone common to a lot of factory units is something I was bored with a long time ago. The 'ice pick' toe down tone common to many factory Cry Baby units is not found in the CM-95. The carcass is lighter than the older Cry Baby units, which is a plus when you're lugging your rig around. It's still bulletproof, the older units were a bit over armoured and cumbersome. The new units are a better weight. They stay planted, and they feel like the old ones to use. If you'd blind tested me on this unit, I wouldn't believe it was a factory built unit. It's not a wah which you'll want to sell. The grin factor is massive with this one, unless you were hoping for the overt type wah tones. I'm not knocking that, it's just embarrassing when my playing sounds like a sexploitation film score.elcaminooscuro

Absolutely loving this pedal. It takes a little while to get used to, especially if you're more used to a regular wah however the applications for this are great. It's easy to use and so much fun when used with other effects. You'll really have a great time with this. My only issue was with the fact that the one I bought, inside packaging had been opened and box was a little dented but for the price I couldn't complain. Pedal works great and I'm really pleased with it. Very worthwhile purchase!Steven L.

Overall: Here it is, the signature wah from the love him or hate him wah master himself, Kirk Hammett. For this review we'll just exclude Kirk, his playing style….or overuse of the wah itself and stick to the sound and use of this wah. After trying out the Dime wah, and a few others (still going to buy the Slash wah later) I decided on this one in particular for a few reasons. One it handles so well with a lot of gain going on, it does not get thin or cut out or sound like tin. This is great when it comes to that. Secondly, the graphics, while those aren't overall important I love the look of this pedal. Now, the downside is that is does not have that wide of a sweep, but the tone and great construction of the pedal make up for it. If you are in a Metallica cover band I say get it, I play a Gibson Les Paul, Fender Stratocaster through a Marshall Code 100 half stack (classic metal setting is near perfect) and can get those killer, sick wah sounds. I have been wanting to get this pedal for awhile and I am so glad I did. This pedal is amazing, not only the graphics and paint are second to none especially under the lights on stage, the basic design of this pedal is solid and you can customize your solos with this thing. The build of this pedal is sturdy and Dunlop did a year job with this. Kirk has these pedals spread throughout the stage when he is playing and I can see why, if your looking for a fabulous and amazing sounding wah pedal, you must get this!! I bought this pedal because I demoed it in a store and loved the variation of wah types I could get from it – it's certainly very versatile in that respect. As for build, it's a good solid case and mechanically it's very well put together, so no complaints there. What is surprising is that the electronics are (apparently) very cheap. Mine stop worked as a wah Pedal and would only work as a volume pedal. I researched this on the web and found out that it's a very common scenario with this pedal. Being technically minded, I decided to repair it myself (the common cause is a bad capacitor), but I must have spent an hour trying to get the circuit board out with no luck – the positioning of the trim knobs and the way that the two internal boards have been put together means that the only way to get the main board out is to break something. I have owned this pedal three different times. Had some issues with life changes and that's why. That being said, I always come back to it because it has so much versatility. It does have the usual wah pedal tone suck when its on, but the volume boost can fix that. I love that you can change the range of the q and also select between different tones with the chrome knob on the side. Great value at its price point, I highly recommend this pedal to anyone looking for a quality wah that they can dial in just how they want it to sound.Rick

Best wah I've ever owned. Lots of options to customise your wah sound/sweep and a really handy booster switch that can be tapped with your foot. Found settings examples online and got it to nail that rich vocal sounding Jerry Cantrell style wah sound which is one of my favourite wah sounds on record. Loving it. Sounds great clean or with any level of gain. Inspired me to play clean Bob Marley and the Wailers style stuff using it one minute and heavy Tool style stuff the next. Paired it with some fuzz and before I knew it I was playing my favourite Ron Asheton and James Williamson riffs. Nails that Jimmy Page style cocked wah sound too. A bit of delay and you'll end up playing the whole of Led Zeppelin II. It just sounds absolutely fantastic for any style that uses wah. I used to have a GCB 95 wah a long time ago that I remember sounded excellent but could get very trebly when fully forward on the treadle- it's great you can dial in your personal preference. I've owned Vox's and Morley's which are brilliant in their own right but the Dunlop Crybaby sound just completely does it for me. Also one of the first things my partner said to me when I let her hear it is "did you buy that cos I told you how much I like Jimi Hendrix?". Can't think of any better endorsement than that! Pedal wouldn't click. Fixed by inserting a piece of felt. Rocking motion of pedal was a little stiff so I applied graphit grease on the threads. That seemed to work. Would be nice if the vendor would inspect these devices more thoroughly. I'm overall happy with it since I fixed all the bugs with it.chucsnyde-7

I got this wah pedal because it's needed for certain songs such as Money for Nothing – Dire Straits. I know that there are other brands of Wah pedals but some won't let you set it in one position and stay there when you take your foot off. But this one does and I like it. It seems to go through batteries quickly but it has an AC adapter which takes care of that problem. The Dunlop Wah pedals have heavy cast metal housings and are really durable. These pedals are expensive to buy new but this used one was more affordable, works perfectly and has the sound I wanted. The peddle works as expected. The only drawback is the short range of motion. Its easy to accidentally turn off the pedal, and makes it tougher to find tune your tone. Conversely, the short range also makes it easy to get the classic Wah sound.llyrin1951

I bought this as an alternative to my Vox. I actually like the look and sound of my Vox better. The Vox has the same midsweep to me, but at toe-forward position the Vox has more high-end which I like. That being said, your wah-tone is a personal thing and matter of taste. My 1st was a Crybaby that lasted foreeeeeeever until I changed the pot (maybe the switch, too) and it was good as new again. I sold it when I bought the Vox thinking I didn't want so many wahs lying around the house; I should have kept it. They seem essentially the same, but my Vox was glitchy as the switch failed quickly and the input/output jacks were loose; I changed those, too. I think I had a lemon. So, I ordered the Crybaby and paid a little extra for the Fasel and it's true-bypass, too ! It has that familiar feel that my foot is used to and I'm hoping that it has the same reliability that my old Crybaby had..fingers crossed – that's the MOST important to me since my Vox failed me in a live performance at a key "Wah-part" in the song. nothing but static-how embarrassing. If you're interested, a side by side comparison of the Vox vs Crybaby does show various differences which I hope are for the better. The Crybaby has all surface mount components and less solder joints. they use ribbon cables w/quick connectors, instead. the battery has a dedicated storage area where my Vox needed the whole back removed to access the 9volt in a clip.mangojeep66

I've always gone for inexpensive effects pedals, or slightly more expensive multi-pedal products including a wah function and they've been okay. This is my permenant go-to wah effect. I'd like to try out the other dunlop wahs. You can slam on this, get really dramatic or subtle expression, and it feels like it will last forever. If you've never used one definitely try it out.Chris
