i dont mind buying a used copy but this was a ripoff. The original 3 volumes has 424 pages, this one has 127 pages (only volume 1) and they are photocopies. Not happy! I was deceivedchrisnatana
This book (levels 1-3) is like a couple years of college level training. However, there are too many duet pieces which is crazy if you are learning by yourself. Therefore, you need to supplement with other materials. As far as theory and technique goes this book is hard to beat.jayafink
The kind of book that I have been looking to find for years. After reading many instructional guitar books and often finding the material not practical and draining, this book finally provided the tools necessary to improve my abilities through practical exercises and intuitive design . A very good book for sight-reading (starting from the bare basics) which is detrimental for any serious musician. The Unscholarly Scholar

Musical rather than "pop" approach to the instrument. For a learner guitarist like me who hasn't a great ear, this is a book that can ensure your basic technique is correct from the start. It also gives a basic idea of reading music and chord theory. It is a book that you would continue to refer to as your technique and skill improve. Gives background to guitar styles and great guitarists. A huge amount of information and you need to take the time to read it all.wade501

14. Guitar Zero: The Science Of Learning To Be Musical [Book]
Product Details:
Just about every human being knows how to listen to music, but what does it take to make music? or a skill that anyone can develop at any time? if you don't start piano at the age of six, is there any hope? is skill learning best left to children or can anyone reinvent him-or herself at any time? for anyone who has ever set out to play a musical instrument – or wished that they could – guitar zero is an inspiring and fascinating look at the pursuit of music, the mechanics of the mind, and the surprising rewards that come from following one's dreams. gary marcus, whom steven pinker describes as "one of the deepest thinkers in cognitive science," debunks the popular theory that there is an innate musical instinct while challenging the idea that talent is only a myth. from deliberate and efficient practicing techniques to finding the right music teacher, marcus translates his own experience – as well as reflections from world-renowned musicians – into practical advice for anyone hoping to become musical or learn any new skill.

Chords, strumming patterns and instruments are clear. Sometimes tips on capo using, keys of the modified and original songs too. My 10 years old son is a beginner. He can use the book when practice. The book is working with the online lessons very well. Love this book!winwo-6910

GREAT COMPANY, RECEIVED AS ADVERTISED!!!bab-jame
I have been playing for 15 years and teaching guitar for over a year, and this book really sticks out as my favorite. Why? It has a fun selection of music with more rock and pop type of music than most, plus most of your older beginner classics. Most of the other books teach old folk music, etc. which always seemed lame to me. Plus, it has a fun and cheerful writing style and good illustrations. It has a logical progression from note reading melodies, and as the dexterity increase over time, it starts adding chords, plus the rock power chords which most leave out. I recommend getting the one with the CD to help figure out a few of the tricky tunes included, but most are really logical and easy to figure out. Most of all, find a local guitar teacher to help you put it all together and to keep you from developing bad habits, and to have a routine to help you get through that first year. Also, have an experienced musician help you pick out a decent guitar; there is so much awful sounding junk out there these days that will make a real musician want to quit, but do the best you can if that is all you have, and start saving up. Play on the tips of your fingers and keep the thumb behind the neck to develop good playing techniques that will be important later on as you progress. Get thebook; it's as good as they come!zzz333
A lot of beginner's start with the chords or go for tabs. I needed to know how to read the notes. This books teaches a little lead but it mostly teaches how to read notes and how strings interact with them. Recommended for analytical minds.dracosmith05

This book is great – Guthrie Govan writes intelligently and gives an incredible amount of insight throughout. It not only improved my playing technique, but also gave me an entirely new outlook on guitar and how to expand my playing style. Thumbs up!retrogamerevue
