4. Jackson Pro Series Signature Mick Thomson Soloist Sl2 – Black
Product Details:
Slipknot lead guitarist mick thomson is one of metal’s most successful and revered players. his game changing, take-no-prisoners approach to metal guitar has influenced countless musicians worldwide, while his black hole-heavy de-tuned guitar sound has been an integral part of slipknot for more than two decades. used, very good condition, a few minor scratches, no cracks. gigbag or case not included. designed to withstand his acclaimed aggressive technique and tone, the pro series signature mick thomson soloist sl2 is a sinister axe loaded with high-quality features including a bound mahogany body coupled with a graphite reinforced through-body one-piece maple neck—carved to a custom super-thin profile for maximum comfort and high-speed playability, and a 12”-16” compound radius ebony fingerboard with 24 frets and block side dots. this signature soloist is powered by a pair of mick thomson signature seymour duncan blackouts to complement the complex, crushing riffs thomson plays in dropped tunings. the emty bridge pickup offers the energy and output of the original blackouts but with thomson’s custom voicing to emphasize the percussive chunk of palm-muted notes. designed for crystal clear clean tones, the emty neck pickup can also produce more aggressive mids and increased sustain for high-speed solos and ominous melodic interludes when you crank up the gain. other features include a jackson mtb ht6 hardtail bridge and locking nut for laser-accurate intonation and ultra-stable tuning, a single volume control, three-way blade switch and a recessed barrel jack.

Reviews:
I had played one of these in a store and liked the feel. After having one for a few weeks, I like it even more. I'm slightly taller than the average guy. Hence my fingers are a bit longer than the average guy. Maybe it is just because the neck seems to get thinner as you get up to the higher notes, but it seems like the neck is a little wider than the rest of my guitars up around the 15th to 24th frets. ("rest of my guitars" include Les Paul, Strat, Ibanez RG550, EVH Wolfgang, and others for reference). Aside from how great the paint job LOOKS, it does not have a gloss coat on it. This is a good thing since the paint job extends up the back of the neck allowing your hand to slide quite freely on the back of the neck. The bridge humbucker is fantastic. It screams the notes clearly with ZERO noise or hum when not playing. I'm not that impressed with the neck humbucker, but that's comparing it to the neck hum on my Les Paul, Carvin, and PRS Custom. AND, for about 90% of the 80s hair band songs you are never using that pickup anyway. The Floyd Rose is great! I got tired of waiting for it to need minor tuning adjustments naturally, so I'm to the point of TRYING to make it go out of tune even slightly and it STILL stays locked in tune. Overall, this guitar is now my GO TO for anything 80s (the biggest chunk of my playing preference).Steve
Having tried playing MANY of these in my hands, it seems that the quality control out of the Jackson Indonesia factory is hit-or-miss. If you get a good unit without problems, it is a great guitar with a great sound for a great price! And the looks are so nice as well. The neck thru body construction is so smooth and sweet. However, you might get a dud that sounds horrible. Or it might have severe defects in the neck or locking nut. In my experience, about 50% are of poor quality.
I was keen to find a 6 string that had a fixed bridge that I could use for covers and so I can retune to alternate tunings easily without having to get the screwdrivers and spending a lot of time retuning like a Locking Tremolo guitar. Thankfully the guitar already had Seymour Duncan pick ups in which are essential to having a aggressive tone but as well allow good expression so this meant it would be a case of getting the guitar out the box and playing rather than buying separate pick ups having to fit them in and so on. As I wanted a guitar that wasn't black or brightly colored the desert sand finish on the guitar really stood out and attracted me. Most of the SLP2's have a great selection of finish's. As for the neck and wood finish it is very smoothly and allows you to get quick access from from end of the neck to the other. Behind each the tuners on the headstock, there is this interesting circular turning device to help lock in the strings. This may help keep it in tune more but I also just attribute it staying in tune due to the general quality of the guitar. I bend the strings a lot for my lead playing and I play very aggressively with thick picks and rhythmically so once I put some heavier strings on (my preference) and configured the bridge saddles with a very small L shaped Allen/hex key the guitar stayed in tune.Tom H.

Reviews:
Cosmetically, the guitar had some issues: the pickguard screws were not in all of the way and the finish is a little more green than grey. Aside from the cosmetic issues, this guitar is amazing. The specs alone of this guitar match what would you would see in guitars that are 3 times its price. The guitar not only came perfectly set up but also completely in tune. The finish is very smooth and I love how you can feel the grain of the ash. The pickups are amazing. These are the only set of OEM pickups I’ve genuinely been impressed with. On 6 strings, their response is extremely dynamic and clear and fills a lot of sonic space without being to aggressive in any vein. I find them a little boomy for really low tuned stuff, but I play E standard most of the time and I see no reason to swap them. Cleans are clear and twangy while distorted tones are thick yet defined. I’m extremely impressed by this line by schecter. I also own the C-7 Apocalypse and I’m equally impressed with it.Ryan

Reviews:
I patiently waited for something such as this. Debated on buying a used 90's model, or going with the newer version sparkle jets, but never bit the bullet since they just didn't call out and give that "feeling". In checking what this year's model/version would be, I was jaw-dropped and immediately knew this was the one! It was so worth the wait for this model; the best of both worlds (89/older version, but new). The stock pictures look orange, but it is indeed a perfect gold and exactly what I was hoping for. The pictures attached are good to help show it, but it's so much better in person. The quality and craftsmanship? Superb! The feel? Outstanding! The sound? AMAZING! This truly is a spectacular guitar and the sparkle jet I dreamed about. The first song I played had to be Black Hole Sun, and it sounded perfect! So thankful to have this!MD
Beautiful guitar, great quality and sound. Awesome

Reviews:
This thing is great i own a RR3 bolt on neck with a mirror pickguard and detonator pickups and absolutly love it. Then this came i the mail and i feel like im cheating on it. The xseries is f#### awesome. The reverse headstock is sweet but not a big deal the fretboard though is slightly curved like the fenders so ot makes soloing sweeps hammers and pull etc etc much easier you dont have to do much work to find the notes…as if you just think it and your hand does it with little effort. Thats a big plus on my end, did i mention the active pickups scream bloody murder…yes, bloody murder, and best of all its carved outta one piece of wood. Need i say more, arrived flawlessly and the action was already set for speed picking i mean no biggy just lower the action right but with this fret board curved like i mention active pickups i mean its a dream come true. The only bad is that it didnt come with a pickguard like my RR3 but this is a guutar of guitars if you ask me. With the right amp to run it thru im sure all wpuld be happy with it as well. Hope this helps, shred onMichael
Overall: Bought this guitar in the beginning of quarantine. Have been shredding it ever since. It’s lightweight but packs a monster sound. The neck is by far my favorite part. Super fast. One of the pick up screws had a burr that scratched my hand but this was an easy and cheap thing to fix ($2). Highly recommend. zZounds is the best too, super fast shipping and awesome customer service. Give their sales guys a call you won’t be disappointed.
This guitar exceeded my expectations considering price point and some of the erratic reviews that I’ve seen. I don’t regret buying this instrument at all. I’ve been playing guitar since the early 1980s and have always avoided instruments like this one. I got a cheaper version of this a couple of years ago and decided To upgrade so that I could have a back up in case of a broken string on stage. The old one is definitely the back up now. For the money, this guitar is really awesome. I have a lot of instruments and this one is definitely going to be getting a ton of mileage.Joe Shlabotnik

Reviews:
All in all, this is a great guitar. It buzzed a little when I first picked it up, but this is easily fixable. The neck feels great, I don't have to reach too much around it, the guitar aesthetics wise looks amazing. the special floyd rose doesn't give me any issues, and the locking nuts keep it in tune fairly well. It has some pretty cool features like the kill switch. It's an amazing guitar besides a couple problems I have for how much it costs. The pickups are a little soft, and if you're into death metal and things like that, these pickups aren't the best for it. They are good, but there are better out there. Second, I'm not a fan of how there aren't any inlays on it, but there are inlays on the side of the neck. If I had to rate this guitar out of 10, I would give it an 8/10. Pickups could've been better given the price. But it's a great guitar and if you have the money, I would invest in it. I would put it up there with Ibanez's higher end guitars.Josh
Such a lovely full sounding guitar, absolutely amazing for the price.Reviewed by guitarguitar custome

Reviews:
I wanted to review this after reading a view negative reviews that almost made me not buy it. First of all, to the people wanting more discussion or breakdown of scales and theory used, IMO that is your own fault, not the fault of this DVD. A beginner shouldnt be picking up this DVD and expect it to teach you everything about the theory. Alexi uses basically major and natural minor scales (Diatonic mostly, some pentatonic). If you don't know what this means, do a little studying on the side before picking up this. If you know what this means, you will have no problems understanding what he is doing. I recommend this to anyone wanting to improve their chops, regardless of whether you are a Bodom fan or not. If you like catchy riffs and melodic/heavy music, this is really a blast to practice! I think of this DVD as a compilation of technical lessons that sound much better than the stuff you get in pure technical lesson books….because these riffs and leads come from actual songs.GuitarDTO
I'm a huge children of bodom fan. When I bought these videos I expected what was promised in the description. There was no rundown on scales, theory, chord progressions, anything really. Just Alexi Laiho sounding confused and playing riffs from songs Ive already heard, very few of which were actually challenging to a moderately skilled guitarist. If you dont plan on learning anything from these videos in the first place, then youre the exact person who should purchase them, otherwise do yourself a favor and spend your money on something else.Anonymous
Wow-This was absolutely terrible. No instruction concerning scales/progressions used. Just him showing what he can do…which I admit is impressive, but a real waste in time. UNLESS you just want to be able to play what he does without any analysis or technique discussions. I would certainly save your money.TimberF15

Reviews:
I got this DVD because it seemed like the only one that focused on heavy guitar style. All the others all focus on speed and soloing, which i don't play. I'm a rhythum player so soloing isn't what i want to practice.I was very disappointed in this dvd. I didn't want to learn "theory" but they throw around "5th's" and "minor 3rd's", etc…that fine for those who want to learn, but it makes it confusing for those who don't. Put it on another dvd.All they do is play parts of there own songs. First slow, and then fast. there's no "teaching" involoved or helpful ideas. They play in a Drop A# tuning. This is not a tuning for a "level 1" player and i don't recommend people just grabbing there guitars and going that low. Also, you can hear their strings slap around which is annoying. If you (rock house) want to do a dvd with a drop tuning, just do it as a basic Drop D, which anyone can do. there's nothing on this dvd that you couldn't do with reading TAB. I'm going to look into returning it and probably won't be buying another Rock House DVD.alcoholica_316
I have been trying to play the guitar since I was a kid and could never get it. Now with Ravi and Bobby and the Rockhouse method its so much clearer. Reviews:
This DVD was perfect for me. I have a few others that do nothing but show off the talent of the teacher. This DVD is structured to allow anyone to learn to play Metal Guitar. This got me to play and understand Metal. It starts out very, very easy and takes off from there. The lessons build up on each other, so when you follow them 1 by 1, you can't help but get better. By the end, you are playing Metal all over the guitar neck. 5 Stars all the way.Steve
I have to give this DVD two 5ۡs, the first 5 because the instructor uses the Zakk Wiled Gibson Les Paul and I have the Epiphone Zakk Wiled Les Paul and yes, Gibson Owns Epiphone and the Epiphone Zakk Wiled copy has gotten all 5 star review on GC. The second 5 is for the material. The instructor starts the video by talking about amp settings and how to get that METAL tone which I thought was good. The DVD is slow at the beginning, but the lessons build on each other, and for the price I thought it was pretty good. Iۡve been playing off and on for a long time and thought I would check this out and Iۡm glad I did. Iۡve been learning some Black Sabbath, Dimebag and other riffs, but I still enjoyed the DVD and recommend this DVD to any beginner.Charles
This title is 100 as promised… EASY! I was inspired to write this review in response to the last one. Did you bother to read the title before you purchased this? Hello, it is called "EASY" Metal Guitar! I for one am very pleased with the format of the DVD. It got me playing metal faster than any other DVD or book I have tried. Other products assume you know too much and leave a ton of material unexplained. This DVD took me by the hand and insured that I was able to start playing metal. This was the lowest price I ever paid for a DVD, yet it is the only one that worked. Thank you MJS!stringsNtubes

This is excellent for aspiring metal rhythm guitarists. There are countless guitar method books out there, but not many to choose from if you specifically want to learn Metal. Highly skilled guitarist and teacher Troy Stetina comes to the rescue with this book. There are many different styles of Metal of course but this will help you whichever style you want to play.
