I was looking around for acoustic bass strings for my Sky Acoustic Electric bass. I was given long scale strings for a medium scale bass and so on. I finally found this set of Fender medium scale strings. Needless to say for the price of this set I was greatly surprised at how well this set sounded on my bass. First string replacement on my BC Rich BCR3N Acoustic from D'addario which sounded good on her but I prefer coated strings and these live up to their name. Once on and tuned (BTW, I had also switched out the tuners from BC Rich to D'addario Planet Waves Auto Trim Locking Tuners, so I am not sure if the magnificent new sound is specifically from one or the other or both but the combination surely works well). I've been playing for 38 years. I wasn't aware of generic strings in the old days so I've used all the big names, Ernie Ball, GHS, D'addario and to me these are pretty good strings. I've been using them for 8 or 9 years now. The main thing I will say about them is that they mellow out quickly, in other words the new string brightness goes away pretty fast. For me, this is good. I do not like that jangle brightness of new strings. Other than that I can't hear or feel a difference from the major brands. I have recommended them to friends who also liked them. We were in a cover band together and had to restring many guitars fairly often because they would get sweat all over and not wiped down. So these were economical.Quinn
I bought a whole bunch of these in different sizes as it is a good way to experiment with using different sized strings. Some strings last a while but many pop almost immediately right at the ball. Once I had three in a row pop, each one the first time I struck the string with the pick. Enough of the strings work well enough to allow me to accomplish what i wanted but it is frustrating and I will be glad when they run out. But whatever at this price I don't really care.b
I ordered a huge bulk back in 2010, the 10 thru 46 guages set. They hold tune well and have good tone. After each time I practice or gig, I wipe down the strings with 3 in 1 oil and they last. Some people complain that the ball ends break off. But I only use these strings on my Floyd Rose equiped guitars, so I use the ball end wrapped through the posts of my tuning keys, then lock the clamp down. I use stainless steel picks and stacatto pick ( like Yngwie Malmsteen), bend 2 whole steps and pull up hard on the tremolo bar …..and they stay in perfect tune. I put a set on a recently purchased used The Loar LO215SN, which is a Christmas gift for my granddaughter. These strings provide punch with a lot of projection. This guitar has laminated maple back and sides, so it's already bright and these help that along. I'm sure they'll mellow some, but this guitar will be the loudest in the room. I like to bend strings and these are as heavy as I can handle for any decent bends or vibrato. I have not had them on for very long, so I can't comment longevity.loudog
I don't write reviews…however I just needed to say something about the DR Rare (medium light gauge) strings. I was out of my usual DR Rare's and strung up one of my guitars – an OM built by a local Luthier – with what I had around, some John Pearse phosphor/bronze light gauge. Well, to make a long story short…after only 1 day I was making a special trip to the local music store to stock up on DR strings. I play mostly blues and jazz and really appreciate the lower string tension and easy bendability of these strings. I find them to be plenty loud enough, even with the lighter rating (11 to 50). These are very light strings that hold their tuning very well. Packs a punch with sound and bright tone. For those needing a lighter string set for their acoustic, these hold great. These strings are much better than the strings I used to use. I love how the bottom end pops out a lot more and gives it a lot more foundation and volume. I'm looking forward to trying the naturals soon. I also got a set of custom strings from a friend on my worship team who also uses stringjoy, they sound and feel great on my electric. A few things first: the customer service at Stringjoy? 5 stars, no question. The overall attention to detail (especially with regards to packaging)? 5 stars. The feel/balanced tension of the set? 5 stars. Where they fell short for me was the sound/dynamic range and the overall longevity. I tried them on both of my Martin dreds (D16GT and D18 standard) and I wound up disappointed both times. They sounded ok at first, very bright and crisp as you'd expect, but I found they left something to be desired as far as overall dynamics are concerned, bordering on an almost 'tinny' sound that you might get from lesser sets. I also found that they dulled up and died out very quickly (before you ask, both guitars are kept on their cases with proper humidity control when not in use, and I make a point to wipe down the strings each time before putting them to bed). 3 days of moderate practice and one short gig was all it took for the D18. Off they came. Maybe I just got a 'meh' batch, maybe they're just not for me. In any case, that's my take. Again, everything else about this company is 5 star worthy, so keep that in mind.Jesse B

These are the slickest, most comfortable strings. I bought them to put on a PRS Angelus SE and be able to do those David Gilmore bends on an acoustic. For that, they are awesome. Bendiest, easy to slide acoustic strings I have ever tried. Great for all those single note lead lines. The bass strings are also heavy enough to still give some oomph. The problem is when you come out of those lead lines to do any rhythmic strumming-the tone is bright, brash, tinny and very G forward. I want to like these strings for their play-ability and keep trying them to see if they'll break in, but always leave disappointed. For reference, my PRS is already a little brighter in a Taylor sort of way than my other guitars. I usually play Santa Cruz Low Tension Parabolics on my Santa Cruz OM, and Martin Life Span on my Martin 0015. The brashness is muted a little if amplified.Jonah

For me, these strings bridge the difference between phosphor bronze and silk and steel. On my guitars and through my ears, these silk and bronze strings are less "bright and chimey" than phosphor bronze and less mellow and warm than silk and steel strings. They are softer and more "silky" feeling on my fretting fingers than phosphor bronze but less so than silk and steel. The key for me though, is the gauge difference, particularly on the 4th string. My D28 and my D41 both are prone to buzzing with D strings lighter than .030" and these are .032". Overall, great sound, especially for my finger picking style and smooth, easy playability. Unfortunately there is a price penalty when compared to either of my usual choices, but the strings are worth it for my style of play in my opinion. I definitely recommend trying them next time you change your strings.55lmnade
I put these on my Guild dreadnought and they were, as advertised, easier on the fingers, with virtually no loss in tone. Fabulous for fingerpicking, they did fall a little behind regular mediums for the heaviest flatpick strumming, but not much – and only at the loudest end. They delivered.
