It is great, really resonant sound. Fun to play. You got to be a more serious player to use this instrument, as it is much harder on the fingers and hands than a 4-string Ukulele. But If you are a professional or serious hobbyist, this is for you. Tuning can be a bit of a pain with all the strings and tuning keys so close together, but if you are prepared to deal with that, you'll love the results.lukiguapo

I've been wanting a Blueridge guitar for years. I feel like they are a really good value compared to others. I do not own an American-made classic like Martin because I cannot afford one necessarily. But I am proud to own the next best thing in my opinion. I am really quite surprised that this guitar is not seen more but the tenors seem to be on a comeback. I love the sweet little cords that you can make with only two or three fingers.Kdog

My Blueridge tenor guitar arrived today here in Australia and it travelled perfectly. One hour out of the box, tuned, hooked up to my amp and I can't get the smile off my face. Purchased the Lanikai MA-8T Mahogany 8-String Tenor Ukulele Regular Mahogany and while tuning I noticed the A strings have a horrible buzz. Waiting for customer service to open up to return. Soooo disappointed.Merce

Beautiful resonant sound from this thing. Solid playability. I own much more expensive ukes (tenor/soprano) + banjo ukes, handmade nonsense. This thing is great. Make sure to properly stretch the strings (as you would with any stringed instrument- might take a few days to settle). Side note: dunlop 571P140 gator grip jazz III 1.14 guitar pics sound amazing w this thing- light years better than say, a fender felt uke pick (which are solid in their own right). Bottom line: love this instrument. Adds a whole new dimension to writing and playing. If you’re in the market for an 8string uke, buy this little frig, you won’t be disappointed.jermajesty

It has a cool design and plays pretty smooth (after setting it up myself.) The main issue I have with this guitar its particularly at the 1st fret high E. When playing I keep slamming my finger into the sharp corner of the bone nut. That is really the kicker of it all. The pick ups are pretty good and have a pretty balanced sound that let you play clean cleans and dirty articulated lows. Holds tune pretty well. The feel of the neck is pretty smooth and doesn't feel like a 2×4 with strings on it..3-alch3mist-3

I've played a six string for 22 years and this is my first foray into the world of seven string guitars. I was a little intimidated thinking it would feel completely alien to me. I was also worried about the multiscale neck, for not having ever played one before. Taking all of that into consideration, this guitar feels fantastic. The tone is excellent and it feels great in my hands. I was able to learn a lot of new songs in no time. I would recommend this guitar to anyone thinking about switching over to a seven string.JOHN

Overall: This guitar is ideal for tunning under drop A, I play it in drop G and it is just made for great range. You can chug all day and solo like a shredder on the top. The tension on all the strings is great. You will need to get it set up so if you can do set ups yourself that is great, will not take long at all. The rail pickups are new to me but they cut the muddy freqs quite well! they are hot and clear. The pictures also do not do this guitar justice! In person the fretboard looks amazing and the finish is a nice dark red. Its a metal machine and the rounding of the neck joint is very nice to have!Vaughn

Sound: The stock pickups sound great especially with high gain. Nice crunch and break up. Features: For me the reason that I bought this model is that it is the least expensive way to get a real Edge tremolo. I can do subtle things with the Edge that I can’t do on an Original Floyd Rose. The bar is easier to position and it stays where ever you put it. As long as the torsion bushings on the bar aren’t worn out, the pop in bar is neither too tight or too sloppy. Value: This guitar is worth every penny. Manufacturer Support: I did not use Ibanez customer service and I did order half a dozen sets of torsion bushings, but had to order them from different places. The Wow Factor: I love the color of this one, Desert Sun Yellow. Overall: In the last 2 months I’ve bought 5 different Ibanez guitars, both lower and higher price. I must say that this guitar is the most bang for the buck out of any of my 21 guitars that I own.Got more than 200 bucks off on mine as it was sold as a slight blemish. When the guitar arrived, I noticed it did have a hairline crack in the paint on the bass side at the neck pocket. That was the only flaw I could find and it probably would have happened anyway if I would have got a “new” one.This is the shreddiest guitar that I have. The only thing that I had to address is that the 6th fret was a little proud. Other than that the fret job was good. All the frets were shiny and smooth and no fret sprout.This is the guitar that is at the price point where if you spend more money, you aren’t going to get much better. Overall: This guitar was a total impulse buy and I’m so glad I bought it! It’s easily worth twice the price of it. Can’t get too many mid tier guitars that are neck thru with decent pickups and a 5-way switch that has a fast and slim neck at this price. I mostly play baritone 6 strings and 7 strings but I needed a 25.5” scale for drop C and this is perfect for it with 10-54 strings. I did upgrade the nut with a Graphtech tusq nut and Hipshot locking tuners with knurled tuner buttons and looks even more badass while staying in perfect tune! I have an Ibanez rgib6 Iron Label 28” baritone and this is up there with that as far as quality and playability. The stock pickups aren’t bad at all and definitely surprised me cuz that’s usually the first thing I’ll change in an inexpensive guitar. As you can see by the other reviews people say it’s a great guitar and they’re not lying so if you’re on the fence about getting it then go for it! You won’t be disappointed at all and if for some reason you are then zZounds has a return policy within like 30-45 days so you won’t be stuck with a guitar you don’t love.Josh

Really nice instrument. I had been looking for a Parlour guitar as intermittent arthritis in my hands has been making playing a regular dreadnought electro-acoustic or acoustic painful sometimes. I had my eye on Cort Parlour guitar as it had a nut width of 45mm and I thought it might help my fingers. Several times I nearly bought one but hearing them on various online videos there was just something stopping me. Then I came across the Jim Dandy. As soon as I heard it online I wanted one. I was dubious as the nut width is listed as only 42.86mm but took the gamble to order one. I was not disappointed. The tone is really bright and you can feel the notes ringing through the tiny body. I can highly recommend one and would not hesitate to recommend GAK.co.uk as your go to supplier.Nick

I went to GC and tried out several small guitars, a Fender, Cort, Mitchell, I even tried a small Taylor. I honestly preferred this Gretsch to even the Taylor. The guy at GC had to go to the back room to get one, he took it out of the box and i tuned it up. Right out of the box it played great. It stays in tune and all the way down the neck each note rang true and in perfect tune (this was not true of most others). Its small but not tiny and the 24" scale makes it playable , its not just for kids. It will be an awesome travel guitar, but I play it at home too. Fantastic value!John

For the price this is am outstanding guitar. I opted for this over a little martin, mainly on the price tag. It doesn’t feel cheap at all. The fretboard is really playable and the parlour body doesn’t feel noticeably smaller than my grand auditorium shaped acoustic. I wanted a travel guitar, but instead I have put my other acoustic into its case and this has pride of place in my front room. Stop thinking about buying it and buy it!Kristian J.

This is a VERY solid 7 string. I've tried quite a few brands searching for the perfect intermediate 7 string, both active and passive electronics. So far, the best ones, by far, have been LTD and Schecter, with this one taking the cake (even over an $850 Ltd ec-407). First off, the guitar is beautiful, and the neck feels great. I usually don't like the super-strat body style, but this one has the top curves in all the right places. There is a bit of fret buzz when strummed hard on the low B, but that's to be expected and it's much more manageable than some of the others I tried. If it's a problem, I'd recommend a thicker gauge string set, I like ghs boomers in a heavy gauge (they eliminated fret buzz on a previously owned, less expensive LTD 7 string I owned) The pickups sound incredible, honestly. There are models of this same guitar with Duncan Designed pickups, and that model is slightly more expensive, but I assure you that you're not missing out if you get this one with Schecter Diamond active pickups instead. In fact… I think these sounded better in some applications! Fantastic gain, clarity, and definition, and perfect for metal, they will make your riffs sound brutal… they sound good clean too though! Overall the best bang for your buck 7 string I've tried yet. I've personally owned 5 different ones, but this and the now-discontinued Jackson slathx-m 3-7, which come stock with Seymour Duncan Sentient and Nazgul passive pickups, take the cake for the best I've played.Brian F

I was honestly quite skeptical about the idea of an eight string. A few of my buddies and I decided that, based on the type of music that we wanted to play, an eight string was the right answer. Not wanting to spend a ton on an eight string if I didn't like it, I found this model at a decent price. Needless to say, I was blown away by this guitar. Everything about it is above what I would expect for a guitar of this price point. The neck is very fast with a smooth finish, the action was set up just right, the intonation is spot on, and the correct gauge strings for the tuning we are in were already installed. I was also worried about the neck being much thicker than I would have liked, but Schecter did a phenomenal job with his neck. Another concern that I had was the electronics. In my experience, a guitar that has stock branded pickups has never really been that great. These pickups more than do the job. Eventually I can see switching them out for Fishman Fluence, but they will certainly do for now.Derek

Interesting and good looking but I'm not sure that I'm really all that excited about the sound it produces. A lot of the 8 string ukuleles are rated as "quiet" and I think this Kala just might be in that category. I've re-strung it so we'll see if the sound/tone improves. The one I received looked nice and well finished: However it was dried out. The fretboard was in real need of some D'Addario Hydrate therapy. I think it was in storeroom inventory for too long prior to sale. So, I don't recommend it, or not recommend it. Go try one out and see if it's the fit for you.rei3

Kala is my favorite brand, so I have purchased a tenor ukulele in most of the variations offered. The 8-string is my latest acquisition. One of my most remarkable discoveries with this instrument is that the double-stringing is more kind to my fingers (expanded surface contact). I also discovered that the chord is not deficient if a finger accidentally touches one of the double strings. I love playing this one!Bud

This was the 2nd Oscar Schmidt OU2 I bought. One came from another company and I had to return that as well. I thought the first was just a bad one, but the 2nd wasn't any better. The most noticeable was the string buzz on open strings, indicating to me the nut was too low, and not an easy fix. Intonation was not good as well. Also, the frets were not smooth on the edge of the neck, and one of the side fret markers was recessed. Finally, two of the four tuning keys had blistered paint. As far as tone goes, it sounded very muted and dull. I have a Mitchell soprano that is much cheaper and sounds terrific. I took the information from Oscar Schmidt literally when they say "Inspected and adjusted in the USA by a skilled technician". They must have been out to lunch on both OU2's I purchased. Hopefully you won't make the same mistake I did (twice!).No Ukes

Absolutely no diaper rash at all. 😉 With only minor tuning and a little manual string stretching to give them a little help them to "settle", she held her tuning for well over an hour which is excellent for an ukulele "right out of the box" which had just spent several days in transit. I'm a "lefty" so my choices are often somewhat limited. The Ou5LH is my first true left handed ukulele. In the past, I have settled for simply either reversing the strings and/or replacing the nut. I would not hesitate to recommend an Oscar Schmidt ukulele to anyone and I would most assuredly purchase another one. In my humble opinion, dollar for dollar and ounce for ounce it is a beautiful and well crafted instrument of first rate quality,speargun1948

I wanted to get him a decent quality instrument but not spend a lot of money since it is at this point more of a hobby. This ukulele is a very nice quality product. It is well put together and along with a tuner I bought him, he has no problem tuning and using it. Getting used to the extra 2 strings, which is a little awkward. And the fanned frets is something new too. It's kind of like learning the basics of swimming, then decide to try the diving board. LOL. I'm cool with that, as it saves me from buying a bunch of guitars along the way to be comfortable with this concept. Overall: Tried the Ibanez . Ibanez being my favorite brand, I was disappointed. Schecter was even worse. Very cheap. Have had a few ltds before including a deluxe that ran a grand. Wasent impressed. This guitar is heavy, huge short neck, but the pickups are actually playable for stock. They hit pretty hard for what they are. Lil fret buzz but I'll get around to that when I order a new pick up. Worth every penny for $500. Never thought China could make a playable guitar . Proved me wrong. LTD hit a home run with this. Can really only say the pickups aren't top of the line but they usually aren't for this price range. Compared to the $100 less schecter Ibanez (don't even bother with the cheap Jackson) that extra hundred goes a very long way. Thank you so much LTD and zZounds.Kyle

For the price, this is an amazing ukulele. The sound as you'd expect from an 8 string, is full and choral (and sounds like two or three people playing together..and all in time with each other!) No problems with the finish, nice and neat, but plain, nothing fancy (but the sound). Intonation good, but I found the action a bit high (especially trying to hold down 8 strings, higher up the fretboard), so lowering the bridge helped with that. Electrics sound good as well. Buying it from the US was no problem at allit took around about a week or so to arrive. Recommendedif I somehow broke it, I would buy another the same.littlerichard49

I had cold feet about this product because someone on Facebook told me it was a terrible uke. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is a beautiful, well-made uke. The price point is phenomenal! I love the rich sound. The body is tapered for comfort, the bottom of the uke body is thicker than the top. The back is slightly arched and not flat. I didn't realize the uke had this feature. Very nice! It has a silky matte finish, no flaws. Very attractive and feels good. The gig bag is a really nice add-on. Multi stringed ukes tend to be slightly larger than a standard tenor bag is too tight. Nice to have a tuner and cloth. Total Music Source includes and informational note about strings taking time to settle in. As with all new strings, it will take a few days for the strings to hold a tune. This is normal and not a defect in the product. I recommend tuning any uke before each session in any case. The tuning peg knobs are plastic, which is common. The tuning machines are metal and work well. If needed, someday, I might replace them, but they work well out of the box. For me, there is a learning curve for the extra strings and larger neck. (I mostly play 4 string concerts and sopranos). Barre chords are not so easy, but this is not a flaw in the instrument. I need morepractice. I haven't plugged into an amp yet, but I do open mics and performances, so I will do that eventually. But all this AND the ability to plug in is awesome! Overall, I'm very happy and can recommend this product to anyone who wants a richer sounding uke. A perfect addition to any uke collection. 5 stars!betsmannin0

Easy to tune and holds the tones. I played around with tuning from Standard to Chicago tuning without changing the original strings. Doing just fine with the new tuning. Compared the string gauges that came on this tenor and found them to be within range of "light" strings for regular guitar. Nice!Sherrie

This is, I think, the least expensive acoustic tenor guitar of MF. But it does what it is designed to do at a great price point. Out of the box it was certainly playable, but I did two things to mine a) a little nut slot filing as they were a bit high, which is better than too low~! and b) I sanded down the saddle bottom 1/16". Now it plays great. The tuners aren't great but hold tune well, compared to most ukes (yes, I know this is a tenor, but they are close in size) I've played. This is a great guitar for those who are just trying to have a tenor to goof around on, as anyone who gets serious would want to move up to a better instrument. I'm having lots of fun with mine. Would be fine to take to jams.backporchmusic

All the things I will say here are just my opinions, because everybody's hands and ears are different. But, having said that, I do feel qualified to give an insightful review having worked full time in a guitar repair shop through much of the 90's. I was originally just going to buy a backup guitar for my Ibanez 7-string that I use onstage. But then I thought, why not have a little fun and push myself out of my comfort zone? I can stiil play all the same songs I play on my 7-string. So why not? I could tell right away I liked the design of RG8 (from the strighter-string pull headstock to the flat-mount bridge) better than the Schecter8 in the same price point. The RG8 came with D'Addario .09-.64 strings on it, and it felt very similar to playing a .10-.46 set of strings on a standard scale length guitar, bends and slides were no problem (as well as slapping and popping the lower strings). But plan on putting a heavier strings on this axe if you want to go any lower than F#, a .10-.74 set works well for chords and rhythm riffing. the RG8 sounds and plays almost more like a short-scale bass in this configuration, and rings out better as well. Ibanez seems to know where to give you the biggest bang -for the-buck, and thankfully, it seems to be in the construction of the neck. I have never seen a guitar in this price range with a five piece neck, that's for sure. The neck seems very stable and is either unfinished or has a very light sealer on it, it feels nice and satin-y, but I'm unsure how well this neck would do in extreme temperature changes. But, having said that, mine hasn't moved at all, even after a string change with a different brand and gauge. Of course, that means they need to skimp a little in other areas on the guitar, and the most obvious of course, are the pickups and electrontics. The stock pickups have a fairly clear tone and are little lower output than I was expecting (when compared to my 7-string with a Dimarzio Evolution in the bridge position). Luckily, these are easily replaceble, and not difficult to find at all. Seymour Duncan and EMG make perfect retro-fits for this guitar. I did disconnected the tone control from the volume knob, and it does actually make a small diffence in clarity in the tone. The tuning keys are of the no-name variety, and seem to work well, but the heavier strings I installed just barely fit through the hole in the key, and I thought I detected a small amount binding in their rotation afterwards. The 27" scale works well for keeping those lower notes clear and is really not that noticable for me except maybe in the lower regions of the neck (This is another reason I like the Ibanez design…Schecter has a 26.5" and LTD has a 25.5").I'm sure I will upgrade the pickups and electronics in the future, but overall, I'm excited about playing this guitar and the additional creativity it will bring.Locknutmonster

This guitar made me not only hate extended range, but music as a whole for a while. Ibanez as a brand is absolutely phenomenal, and I have been a fanboy of them since the moment I picked up guitar. This guitar delivers virtually nothing I expect from Ibanez – even the gio line. The rg8 series is plagued with shoddy craftsmanship, atrocious fretwork, horrendous out-of-box playability, and they just FEEL disgusting in the hand. An unfinished neck =/= an utterly raw neck. Such has been the case with each of the 6 individual rg8s I have played – when porous, grimy feeling, roughly sanded, horribly profiled necks that seem to fight your fretting hand with a samurai's zeal meet mile-high action that can only be nominally corrected due to atrociously leveled frets, the experience of playing an Ibanez RG8 can be likened moreso to the experience of trying to play a fretted shamisen. If ungodly fit and finish, horrible feel, and the flat plate bridge haven't turned you completely off, the disgustingly poor pickup choice should seal the deal. There are many things that these pickups aren't – but I can confirm that they are without character, flat, unimpressive, and unbalanced. Their response to gain is practically null. I have never enjoyed a tone that has come out of an rg8. tl;dr? run for the hills. or buy the entry level Jackson 8.mamasrockstar
