First I should say this is my third Martin, the others being a D18 1934 GE and an OM-H28 VTS. I've wanted a 00-sized guitar and after having played several I chose the CEO-7. Boy, am I fortunate. I'm having more fun with this guitar than I really thought possible. First, it looks so cool. More Gibson L-00 than Martin (hence the "My Favorite Marti(a)n" nod in the title). But it plays and sounds just like a Martin–and that's a great thing. I've often said that if American history and culture had a soundtrack, it would be played on a Martin. And if I were doing the playing, it would be on my CEO-7. It fits like a glove and the sound rocks my soul. When played softly, it produces a sweet and delicate sound. But when you lay into it, it becomes gritty and bluesy. I've swapped the plastic bridge pins for bone and I'll probably upgrade the tuners at some point, but everything else is tops–addy top; mahogany back and sides; looks like a mahogany neck; ebony fingerboad and bridge; 1 3/4 bone nut. It's a lot of value for the price. Honestly, hands down THE BEST guitar I've ever owned. No regrets. I'll have this one forever.ScottyJ
I have been deliberating on getting a Martin D28 for a decade. I finally bit the bullet and spent the money but opted on the CEO 7. I couldn't be more happy. First off its gorgeous with the sunburst top and choice mahogany back and sides. The size drew me in because of comfortability and I play a lot sitting and lounging. To me it is way more comfortable than the dreadnot while not loosing any (or significant) volume. Plays like a dream. I shouldn't have have waited so long. I did opt to add an ivory arm rest and I think it just increases the big sound of this little guitar.Jon
This guitar is comfortable in my hands…it just feels good. Finger picking, flat picking, strumming…whatever style you prefer…it'll be fine. Clear and crisp and rings like a bell. Small but mighty. I've played (or tried to play) a bunch of guitars over the last 50 years. I'm a ham and egg player. Electrics and acoustics – Fenders, Gibsons, Martins, Gretschs, Epiphones, Guilds, Dan Electros and on…and this Martin CEO-7 is among the sweetest ever. Seems to do the job as the colour of the cloth after you wipe it down suggests. Not a massive fan of the smell personally. Nice little tin to store it in and should last a long time. The cloth provided does fray and leave little bits on the strings every now and then. I expect the cloth won’t last as long as the main product. Not sure yet how much it lengthens the life of strings and whether it pays for itself through that (I expect not) but it’s nice to know that the strings are being maintained.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
I've been using fast Fret for as long as I can remember. A quick wipe after every gig and the strings soud better and last a lot longer. Before I started using it I would break a string maybe every gig (and always had to have a spare guitar ready) but once I started using Fast Fret I was getting more like 6 gigs out of a set of strings. So it pays for itself quite quickly, and lasts a very long time. It is worth noting though, that it is essentially just mineral oil and is not really magic formula. You can buy mineral oil cheaply on eBay (search for chopping board oil) and that's the same stuff. But what makes Fast Fret worth it is the applicator – it prevents you from putting too much on and having a load to wipe off again. It also helps look after your fretboard too, as most lemon oil fingerboard cleaners/conditioners are just made of mineral oil too – there are no lemons in lemon oil 🙂 Anyway, I would recommend it – buy with confidence! I have been using Fast-Fret for decades on ALL of my stringed instruments and it is the ONLY string treatment I will use. I have found that applying Fast-Fret after EVERY use of my guitars, banjos and mandolin can prolong string life for more than twelve months. As an experiment some years ago, I left a set of Fast-Fret maintained stings on one of my guitars to see how long they would remain in good playable condition, and they lasted for more than three years. I'm not saying strings should be kept on an instrument that long as the wire will become tired and lose brightness and tone over time, even when kept clean and corrosion free. But I regularly keep strings on instruments for up to 12 months because Fast-Fret can extend string life for a very long time… If applied thoroughly and religiously to your strings after using your instrument. Experience has taught us that Corrosion and dirt are the enemies of metal strings. This because, the oily salts & acid from contact with fingers and hands is the Number One cause of Premature String Death. Finally, I have to say I love the new design of Fast-Fret. Da ich schon seit längerer Zeit auf der Suche nach einer neuen 7 saitigen Gitarre war, bin ich aus Zufall auf den Artisten „John Browne“ gestoßen. Dieser spielte eine Gitarre dessen Hersteller mir unbekannt war. Also schnell im Internet nach gesehen und auf die Firma MAYONES gestoßen. Da kein Preis und Verfügbarkeit zu finden waren, habe ich nach einem Dealer in Deutschland gesucht. Zwei Treffer…JA… dachte ich! Gleich den ersten Eintrag probiert….na prima…ausgerechnet das Modell ist nicht mit im Sortiment. Blieb noch einer…MUSIC STORE…BAAAM…fündig geworden und auch noch in diesem Finish…JÄÄ! Verfügbarkeit geprüft…kann doch nicht wahr sein…ca. 3 Wochen…gut dachte ich mir das kann ich verkraften. Also der GERÄT gleich in den Warenkorb gepackt und ab zur Kasse. Stand 19.08.2015. Nach häufiger Lieferverzögerung, kam endlich die Versandbestätigung, endlich nach 232 Tagen langen warten. Als der Paketdienst am 08.04.2016, mir das Paket überreichte war für mich Weihnachten, Ostern und Geburtstag auf einmal zusammen. Nach dem ich endlich die zwei Lagen Karton durchkämpfte, befreite ich das edle Hiscox Case mit dem geprägtem MAYONES Logo. Der Reihe nach öffnete ich jeden einzelnen der vier Verschlüsse mit dem Gedanken, was erwartet mich da drin und öffnete das Case! Nach dem sich der Qualm und der grelle Schein mit samt des AHHHHHH Gedöhnst verdrückt hatten, traute ich meinen Augen nicht! Ich bin bis jetzt noch völlig sprachlos…! Genug gefaselt…wie das ganze klingt? Mit dem Sentient in der Halsposition und dem Nazgul in der Stegposition lassen sich von engelsgleichen Clean Parts bis hin zu höllischen Metal Riffs alles Mögliche spielen. Meiner Meinung nach gibt der Sentient nicht nur bei Clean Parts einen schönen warmen aber klar definierten Ton wieder. Der Nazgul hingegen ist eher durchsetzungsfähiger mit mehr Biss und Attack in der härteren Gangart. Wobei er auch im Clean und Crunch Bereich einen guten Soundliefert. Auch Tapping ist ein echt wahrer Genuss und dass mit Leichtigkeit. Die Coil-Split Funktion ist auch sehr gut, gibt dem ganz noch ein wenig mehr Ausdruck. Beide zusammen ergeben einen schönen Mix ohne Gematsche wie es oft bei einigen andern Pickups vorkommt. Die Bespielbarkeit dieser Gitarre ist einfach nur klasse, dabei ist das Halsprofil ähnlich einer Ibanez angenehm, nicht zu dick aber auch nicht zu dünn. Nach etwas Recherche über die Firma „Mayones“ und der „Duvell“ habe ich mich nach einem Test im Music Store zum Kauf entschlossen. Diese Gitarre möchte an dieser Stelle nicht mit anderen Gitarren diverser Hersteller vergleichen, da mich „die Anderen“ nicht interessieren. Der erste Eindruck und die Haptik war einfach nur umwerfend. Hier passt einfach alles. Von der Optik, Holzauswahl, Hipshot-Hardware, Tonabnehmer, Schaller Security Locks, Verarbeitung des Instruments, etc. : alles ist hier top verarbeitet und wurde klasse eingestellt. Es gibt meiner Meinung nach überhaupt nichts zu meckern ! In der Vergangenheit war ich eher im Bereich der aktiven Tonabnehmer unterwegs. Jetzt war ich hier auf den Klang der beiden Tonabnehmer sehr gespannt. Sowohl der „Sentient“ als auch der „Nazgul“ liefern von cleanen bis verzerrten Sounds einen klar definierten Ton – keinen Soundbrei. Durch das Coil-Splitting der Tonabnehmer gewinnt man noch Soundvariationen hinzu. Beide Tonabnehmer lassen keine Wünsche übrig und decken eine große Bandbreite ab, welche sich für diverse Stilrichtungen eignet. Wobei die „Duvell Elite 7“ die Marschroute in der Spielrichtung prinzipiell schon "a bisserl" vorgibt 😉 Das Handling / die Bespielbarkeit dieser Gitarre ist meiner Meinung nach einfach sagenhaft. Ob man mit dem Halsprofil gut zurechtkommt sollte im Soundcheck probiert werden. Mir liegt das Profil auf jeden Fall, der Hals ist nicht zu dick und nicht zu dünn für eine 7-Saitige. Am Gurt hängt das Instrument sehr ausgewogen. Aber ca. 2.500€ für die „Duvell Elite 7“ investieren??? Meiner Meinung ist diese Gitarre diesen Preis wert!!! Denn was nichts kostet, das ist auch nichts….

this book is definitely aimed towards beginners. it explains the very basics, such as how the major scale can relate to the changing of major chords to say, minor chords or seventh chords, and it teaches basic backup rhythms and licks, like 12 and 8 bar blues progressions and bends and slides for backup, and moveable blues boxes, and other such silliness. this is well worth the price. buy it if you don't quite understand guitar theory or tried to read a guitar grimoire and didn't understand a word of it. it'll explain a lot of what youd need to know to understand harder stuff like that.randomal
I use this book to teach from along with the DVD for general use. It works very well for teaching and I even learn new things almost everyday that I have overlooked. For beginners or even Blues Artists that think they know everything these guide books are like a large piece of humble pie.Fred Sokolow has learned many tricks that he did not forget and he teaches them through this great book. I have the Mandolin book and the Guitar book as well as the Blues book. I am glad that I bought these books and DVD and I would suggest that anyone no matter your expertise should read through them. You will pick up even more tricks to use in playing. So please after you get them teach a child to play guitar. We need more generations to follow who are even better than we where. Da ich schon seit längerer Zeit auf der Suche nach einer neuen 7 saitigen Gitarre war, bin ich aus Zufall auf den Artisten „John Browne“ gestoßen. Dieser spielte eine Gitarre dessen Hersteller mir unbekannt war. Also schnell im Internet nach gesehen und auf die Firma MAYONES gestoßen. Da kein Preis und Verfügbarkeit zu finden waren, habe ich nach einem Dealer in Deutschland gesucht. Zwei Treffer…JA… dachte ich! Gleich den ersten Eintrag probiert….na prima…ausgerechnet das Modell ist nicht mit im Sortiment. Blieb noch einer…MUSIC STORE…BAAAM…fündig geworden und auch noch in diesem Finish…JÄÄ! Verfügbarkeit geprüft…kann doch nicht wahr sein…ca. 3 Wochen…gut dachte ich mir das kann ich verkraften. Also der GERÄT gleich in den Warenkorb gepackt und ab zur Kasse. Stand 19.08.2015. Nach häufiger Lieferverzögerung, kam endlich die Versandbestätigung, endlich nach 232 Tagen langen warten. Als der Paketdienst am 08.04.2016, mir das Paket überreichte war für mich Weihnachten, Ostern und Geburtstag auf einmal zusammen. Nach dem ich endlich die zwei Lagen Karton durchkämpfte, befreite ich das edle Hiscox Case mit dem geprägtem MAYONES Logo. Der Reihe nach öffnete ich jeden einzelnen der vier Verschlüsse mit dem Gedanken, was erwartet mich da drin und öffnete das Case! Nach dem sich der Qualm und der grelle Schein mit samt des AHHHHHH Gedöhnst verdrückt hatten, traute ich meinen Augen nicht! Ich bin bis jetzt noch völlig sprachlos…! Genug gefaselt…wie das ganze klingt? Mit dem Sentient in der Halsposition und dem Nazgul in der Stegposition lassen sich von engelsgleichen Clean Parts bis hin zu höllischen Metal Riffs alles Mögliche spielen. Meiner Meinung nach gibt der Sentient nicht nur bei Clean Parts einen schönen warmen aber klar definierten Ton wieder. Der Nazgul hingegen ist eher durchsetzungsfähiger mit mehr Biss und Attack in der härteren Gangart. Wobei er auch im Clean und Crunch Bereich einen guten Soundliefert. Auch Tapping ist ein echt wahrer Genuss und dass mit Leichtigkeit. Die Coil-Split Funktion ist auch sehr gut, gibt dem ganz noch ein wenig mehr Ausdruck. Beide zusammen ergeben einen schönen Mix ohne Gematsche wie es oft bei einigen andern Pickups vorkommt. Die Bespielbarkeit dieser Gitarre ist einfach nur klasse, dabei ist das Halsprofil ähnlich einer Ibanez angenehm, nicht zu dick aber auch nicht zu dünn. I applied the first three frets then realized immediately I couldn't see them while playing. Took them off. If FretDaddy made a set of labels printed backwards in "mirror font" then you could see the labels in a mirror while playing. Seems that could help in learning chord spellings. All you really need are the natural notes anyway. Sharps and flats are implicit. Labels would be less busy and quicker to read. Be nice if the label tapes were trimmed closer on the bottom so that the label stuck very close to the fret bar because that's where you press. Having the label in the middle of the fret encourages poor fingering. My set did not exactly fit my standard nylon classical so the note labels were not all exactly under the strings. Compromises had to be made. It was close enough. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. I did my best — there are a million of these things. Make sure you get exactly what you need.Takamine Terror
