Very poor quality. Would not stay in tune for five minutes. Replaced with a set of Groovers. Do yourself a favor just get the groovers or hip shot first save yourself the aggravation of having to change them twice. I was surprised to fine this heavy of a guage of strings. I didn't know they existed. The thing about heavy strings is that you have much more ability to play with dynamic resonance – something you can't really get with light guage strings. With these strings, you can play as softly as you wish but when you really want it to "come out" they don't disappoint. I also only play with the fleshy tip of my fingers which melds into the subtle nuances of chord and solo performance.garycgrieve
The package is for C standard, not Drop C as some people mistakenly think…well, I guess you could use them for Drop C if you like veeeery stiff strings. If you want strings for Drop C, I'd suggest a skinny top/heavy bottom set of strings with an 11 up top and a 54 or so on the bottom so the bottom E tuned to C doesn't get floppy and knocked out of tune easily. Anyway, I've been using these for a long time on my USA core line PRS Custom 24 in C standard. They seem fine for going down a half step to B standard and feel fine even up half a step to C# standard. That's as high as I'd tune these strings up, though. I couldn't recommend these strings more!Josh
I have these strings on my schecter c-1 SLS blackjack tuned all the way down to drop A#, and let me tell you, despite being labeled as optimized for drop C, I don't recommend them for that tuning. 11-52s, 12-54s and 11-56s are better for Drop C, but for Drop B and Drop A#, you will not find a better gauge than these on a 25.5 scale length guitar or a 26.5 baritone. The tension is absolutely perfect! It feels like a 10-52 set in E standard with the E string tuned to D! Like with all D'addarios, they are bright, long lasting, they feel smooth and they absolutely love locking tremolos. I can yank my floyd rose all I want and it still will not go out of tune. Since D'addarios are bright as I stated before, they also remain clear under high gain, which I use my marshall JVM on the red channel with a maxon OD as a boost and a peavey 5150. Between the tuning stability, the tension, the reliability, the playability and the string life, you cannot go wrong with these for baritone tunings!Daniel

I use these for tuning down to B standard and they are perfect with or without a tremolo. They feel firm enough, but not too tight and make for easy shredding. I wouldn't suggest going lower than B standard, but they would probably still hold the up well in A# or even A standard. I don't tune down lower than B and wouldn't know how well they do going lower. I get a lot of good old school death metal tones with these stings. I've tried a lot of different strings and these are the only ones that really are made for lower tunings. They do their job, sound great and last a very long time. It's very simple really. You put them on, stretch them out a little, tune up and you're in knee deep in metal \m/Foul Phil
I first used DDTs on my 4 string bass. I put this particular set on a Peavy Strat clone and it's sitting in BEADC right now will full string tension. Of note is the need for less extra string on the lower two since the "EAD" (or BEA in my case) are fundamentally light bass strings and you probably won't have enough room for a proper wrap due to the smaller machine heads.Jared

I've never had locking tuners before so this was new to me. I bought a bare Fender neck here on ebay and needed to buy tuners because I had none. The neck was made for the Fender vintage tuners so they had the 8.5mm holes. It also had screw holes from the previous tuners so these tuners would fit the tuner holes and the UMB plate would cover the screw holes. If I ever decided to go back to the vintage tuners there would be no problem. Overall these tuners did everything I expected and more. The only issue was the plate covered all but 1/2 of one screw hole. You can barely notice it so I'm happy and it was the best solution out there.69machwon
The HipShot locking tuners are the best dollar value available, period ! If you are using these on a PRS just keep in mind they will look better if you use the screws rather than the UMP plate because of the shape of the headstock. Also, the open gear tuners are a higher 18:1 ratio (compared to 15:1 for closed-gear) which I prefer because they are lighter weight and more accurate. I have upgraded 5 of my guitars with these so far and been extremely happy with every one of them. I have used these strings for 3 or 4 years now they're really good I chose them because of the size and I found out that they are awesome. Not one ever broke on me as I did expect the 10 to from the speed and pressure I used sometimes. My particular style is metal, the strings work great for that. They are highly pliable. I am a bender and the tuning I think does not go out too much after the stresses I place on the strings. I have used deep standard E standard C standard a also be dropped down tuning no problem with any of the strings at all the sound is crisp and clear it's not a muddy sound and it's not a tinggi sound from the strings like a steel Acoustic sound.Big Mac
These strings work pretty much as advertised. They let you tune absurdly low without sacrificing note clarity or integrity… not perfectly, but reasonably. They also stay in tune remarkably well with little to no breaking-in.Regular DR 10's can handle my guitar tuned down 1 1/2 steps with no problems, but anything beyond that is flub territory and intonation is out by as much as a full half-step. With the DDT 10's, I can go 3 steps down and they still sound tight. If you check with a tuner, the intonation isn't quite right, but the difference is negligible to the naked ear. It's hard to break a DDT string. They are noticeably tougher than your average set of 10's. The feel is quite nice at 1 steps and lower though. They're surprisingly easy on the fingers. You don't have to pick hard to get heavy attack. They just exude brutal tone.Their quality stands true to the DR name. Definitely worth a try if you plan on experimenting with extremely low tunings. I typically play a half step down, sometimes drop C#. Guitar I have set up for that was giving me some occasional open string buzz in drop C#, but I didn't wanna go to a higher gauge because I like to be able to go to E standard once in a blue. Planet waves are all I use for tuners unless I'm trying to make a specific reproduction or period correct guitar. The 18:1 gear ratio is great for fine tuning, and the auto-trim and string locks help turn a 30 minute restring into a 5 minute job. No need to get a wrap pattern locked down, measure out string lengths, or anything of the sort. Pull your string all the way through, lock it down, tune it to pitch. Let them settle and stretch or manually stretch them, then tune them back to pitch, and you're done. Update 8/24/18: I installed these two days ago, and while the tuners themselves are great, D'Addario must have started using a cheaper supplier for screws. I pre-drilled pilot holes as always, and the first three screws broke while I was screwing them in by hand. I was only down about halfway. Needless to say, I didn't use the remaining three. I used some of my own supply for the final three. Now I have three broken screws to extract. Go back to your old supplier, D'Addario. These new screws are worthless.saintridge
I have only used the pre-D'Addario-branded version of the Planet Waves Auto-trim Tuners, so I can't speak for how they might be post-D'Addario. That said, I have four guitars equipped with these tuners, and they work fabulously! I have used the 3-and-3 and 6-inline variants in gold and chrome, with no problems whatsoever. I will be buying more for my newest guitar. I highly, highly recomment these tuners! There is one small quirk to be aware of: When installing a new set of strings (particularly the plain strings), the locking post doesn't always grip the string properly. Sometimes the plain strings will slide off the side of the locking post, and when you go to stretch the strings, they pop out, and you're out a brand-new string. However, the good news is that there is a very easy workaround. When installing a plain string, hold it tightly at the top of the stringhole in the tuner (pulling it away from the front of the guitar). As you tighten the locking post, you should see the string bend downwards on each side of the hole (bending down towards the front of the guitar). If you see that, they're locked in properly, and you shouldn't have any problem. A very simple solution to a very minor problem with a very great set of tuners.Big Fan
I installed these on two of my three guitars, and after a few months of having them on I left the country for 2 years. Well, these babies stayed in perfect tune. When I pulled the guitars out of their cases again I plugged them into the tuner to tune them, and they hadn't moved even half a semi-tone, even the one with the tremolo bridge (not double locking). I then grabbed my guitar that didn't have them installed and it was severely out of tune (by about 2 1/2 steps [5 semitones]). I highly recommend getting these on any guitar, NOT just for tremolo. They are amazing. The best bonus is the auto-trim feature (which is what attracted me to them in the first place). It is a HUGE time saver, and you don't have to worry about the strings slipping while installing new ones in. Just make sure you leave at least one half a rotation (of the peg) of string to go off of after it is trimmed, and you will be fine. The possibilities are endless with this capo, I love it. It really stays put on the neck, and the levers make it so easy and quick to experiment with new alternate "tunings". I love the fact that the lever spacing is adjustable and slide to fit the string spacings and neck widths on my different guitars. I love playing in open tunings. When I first discovered them as a teenager, I spent hours exploring them and I still do so today. Open tunings allow you to create chord voicings that are more mysterious and colorful than you can get with normal guitar tuning. But there are a couple of downsides to open tunings. For one thing, if you want to switch between normal tuning and open tuning you either need two instruments or take the time to re-tune your guitar between songs. Better than any locking tuner, you just have to measure the string to the second peg above the one you're using, cut it and put it in. When you get to the unwound ones, clip a little shorter (can't tell you how to measure, I figured it out by trial and error. I would estimate 3 wraps by sort of wrapping it loosely, then cut). Perfect match to the vintage F tuners made on the great strats of yore, you can age them to match by fuming the finish with muriatic acid. Place the tuners on an upside down bowl in a piece of tuperware with an inch or so of acid. Seal the lid. Place in a bath of hot water, and the acid will heat and evaporate. After 10 – 15 minutes check the level of chrome removal. You can always do more, but you can't easy put chrome back on. Rinse with cold water when you're done. RAWK ON!!!!ki_jaybones
I love these tuners. They look cool, they hold tune well. I would not upgrade to these for any guitar that doesn't already have them. Use these for repair/replacement only if you have a guitar that comes with these machines (Eric Clapton, 50s reissue strats). American standards, deluxe and mexican strats all use a different mounting method and have a different peg hole size which is why they provide you with those bushings. If you use these to replace the stock Ping tuners you must be able to drill and tap the machine screw mounting holes. The bushings do not set tight in the existing tuning machine peg hole. I used a drop of super glue to hold the bushings in place to the head. I did use these to make a black MN MIM strat look more like Eric's blackie, so it is not impossible to use them, just know you will have to drill new screw holes and tap them for mounting. Be very careful to not drill all the way through the head and with brass mounting screws. There are no extra screws. It is very easy to bur the brass phillip screw heads beyond use. After your holes are drilled use a pick guard screw to thread hole, then use the provided mounting screw for the tuning machine. I drilled and tapped holes to install one machine at a time to more easily manage alignment of machines from one to the other. After I was done it looked factory issue and worked the same. I put a drop of oil between the peg and bushing before stringing to ease peg binding against the bushing.
I build custom Strat/Tele's so this may not apply to all but…. Like others said this peg uses press-fit front bushing style similar to low cost Squire Strat. For standard diecast pegs I drill 10 mm diameter holes on peg head. I use aftermarket necks with 8 mm diameter hole (I remember it is same as low cost Squire). What I do on 8 mm holes for this peg is I drill 4 mm deep 23/64 (9.1 mm??) diameter counterbore holes to accommodate the bushings. I strongly recommend using drill press not hand drill for this. Also for a better support of peg shaft, I made Teflon sleeves to fill the peghead holes of 8 – 10 mm with silicone grease. One minor issue I have is peghead of some aftermarket Tele neck is a little undersized so I need to file the end peg (High E) a bit to fit.Basement Blues

About $10 too pricey but it does what it says it will do. Most of your tuning problems will be be over, especially if you do what I did on my SG… Tusq XL nut, Grover tuners and a Wilkinson roller bridge. That may seem a bit overboard but if you're frustrated enough by tuning issues, you'll try anything. In the end, it was worth it… Ridiculously playable and stable guitar. These worked better than the ones that came on my Squire guitar. If these are not working for you, one thing you can try is changing out the plastic nut for bone and/or making sure the strings are not bound by the nut. Very poor quality. Would not stay in tune for five minutes. Replaced with a set of Groovers. Do yourself a favor just get the groovers or hip shot first save yourself the aggravation of having to change them twice. I like the strings, but the over advertising on emails is really annoying. I’m not sure who is your marketing manager, but your time would be well spent at NAAM, Local guitar dealers, online advertising, etc. Maybe even getting a contract to put your strings on specialty guitars from the manufacturer, along with specs that only you meet. I had been reading about these strings in forums etc and was intrigued. Decided to try a set or two and see what was up. I bought the 10-52 Signatures. Well, I have been using them for a month and a half and all I can say is, believe the hype. The feel great, nice on the fingers, and it seems like the difference in quality of the metal is noticeable. I mean, it feels that way. Maybe it's something else. I don't know but they feel good, hold tune very well and settle in easy right after they're strung up. In six weeks of home playing they have not diminished in tone or tuning stability at all. I had an old Hondo II guitar that I got when I was younger for Christmas. I decided to rebuild it. These tuners are awesome! They look nice, are very tight and don't come loose easy, the 18:1 ratio makes for precise tuning. I had previously upgraded my stock tuners on my Tele to locking Fender tuners. Decent enough hardware but there was a small amount of mechanical slop in the gears. Not a lot, but some. The gear ratio meant it was slow to get it precisely in tune. It's perfectly doable to go down and then tune up to pitch to keep tension on the string, but doing that is slow because the imprecise gearing and mechanical slop means you have to either take a few tweaks, or else slowly creep up to not overshoot. I use a strobe tuner and play clean chordal tones so being slightly out of tune is noticeable. The new Ratio tuners are noticeably more consistent and its much faster to hit exact tune in one twist. No more overshoot or creeping up to tune. Good stuff. Works just as advertised.Ed M.
