I've been a D'addario guy for a long time, and use them on all my guitars. I like the phosphor bronze tone on my acoustics, and use the extra lights because I have hand and finger joint issues. Actually 10s are pretty heavy for me, I use 8s on my electrics. Anyway, they sound great, are easy to play and have always been reliable for me.James
For years I refused to replace one of the low E machines on my Guild 12-string, as much on principle as anything else. I could only find a full set when I only needed one. The folks at Sam Ash knew my feeling and enthusiastically referred me back to the shop. Not only did I get a single machine, the price was more than right. A friend of mine put light gauge electric strings on his acoustic guitar so it would be easier to play. I did like the feel but the sound was too thin so when I came across the Extra Light D'Addario's for acoustics I was excited to try them. My preferred style of playing an acoustic has recently become almost all finger-picking without finger picks. I tried them on my vintage classic dreadnought Yamaha F335ii and they sound good with a little less low end and a little more thin high end which you would expect. Also there is a tendency for the little E string to rattle as I use an upward stroke with the index or middle finger to play it. I will try switching that string out with a little higher gauge to alleviate that problem. Your style (light or heavy) of playing may determine whether these strings are right for you. They are great for strumming light rhythm with a balanced bright sound using a Fender thin pick so I would definitely use them for recording rhythm parts. For recording finger-picked parts I will continue using regular light gauge strings on a Martin. The D'Addario extra lights are easy on the fingers and good for practicing any style. These strings are definitely easier on the fingers, though there was a notable decrease in sound. I'm thinking there are trade-offs between the softer core, dynamic output of a string. With that said, I found these strings to be very easy to play on, as I usually tune down my 12 string to compensate – though I was able to tune these without issue at the desired pitch, and play for longer periods of time without resting the fingers.John
My first time using GHS strings. I have used Silk & Steel on a number of occasions made by other manufacturers. Not only do the look quiet different but they take a bit if getting used to. However with the GHS strings they looked like ordinary phosphor bronze. I wasnt sure at first, but having fitted them, they are wonderful. I love GHS Silk and Bronze strings. If you are a hard strummer or like big strings that are bright and tight for bluegrass, I don't think these are for you. These strings offer a sweeter tone that isn't so bright as regular strings tend to be, and they have a slightly softer feel to both hands. Great for finger-style players or light pickers. It has a very fundamental tone, good for mahogany guitars. But on rosewood guitars, it may kill off the overtones, which may not be right for some people. Recommended on larger guitars rather than small ones. They do last quite a long time, which helps justify the high price to an extent.J A.
recently asked curt mangan to make me up a custom set of round core monel strings in 12 string configuration. What a great set of strings. I loved monel strings on my maple bodied guitars. But when i saw they had round core available i ordered a set of 6 string strings. They were so good ,i asked about a 12 string set. They dont offer them as of yet, but rep. said they could make me up a set. i askedfor 10- 48,s round core monels, …What a great set of strings. My guild F 412 has always been a stunner tone wise with monel strings. But the round core monels enhanced that 5 x,s .. I put these on my Gibson J-55 and man what a difference over the phosphor bronze that came stock. I have yet to put them on my '29/'31 L3 or Custom Shop martin 0018, but I really adore the sound on my J-55. The J-55 has an Adirondack top, mahogany back/sides and is essentially a Gibson version of a Martin D-18 without the super boomy low end. I love these strings and they really bring out the natural woody tone of the guitar, which is how it should be in my opinion. After using these I really like the sound, and in a weird way I'm closer to that guitar than I ever was before, the phosphor bronze that were on the guitar were just too bright and metallic, I prefer the natural earthy tones. I put this guitar in different tunings and these strings really open it up there and in standard tuning as well. I can't wait to put these on my Martin 000, I just got it so the strings on it are fresh but they're 80/20s and I really don't like them. You can't go wrong with these strings. I'm going to be using them on my acoustics forever. Just vintage, natural, woody earthy tones and I couldn't be happier!Antonio

These strings are amazing and are quite possibly the best strings I've ever used and I've used a lot of strings especially lately. I've been in a testing phrase trying to find my "go to" strings. I've narrowed it down to the John Pearse slightly light custom gauge and the D'addario nickel bronze strings, the John Pearse seems to retain the new crisp tone longer than the nickel bronze strings though the nickel bronze and really comfortable. These are really great sounding, and have a crisp bright tone that brings out the best of your guitar. I absolutely love these strings.Patrick

Definitely the best strings at the price point lately. They have a thinner or smoother wind than Ernie Ball slinkys or Daddarrio exl and this results in less finger noise and a zingier tone IMO. I'm into clean and classic rock, and I doubt you would like these over the former two names if you were into more modern and metal sounds. It depends on the guitar for me, on my strat I could use just about any strings. My guitars with humbuckers seem more picky, at least to my ears. I prefer these over the other two as far as cheap strings go, and these are often cheaper. Win win. Used to be I would never have preferred Fender strings so either my tastes are changing or these strings have changed over the years.Joelish
Overall: Don't pay any attention to the low price these are great strings. Have used Fender 7250's on all kinds of bass guitars they always sound great and feel good. According to a Fender rep, these are what came on the Fender PJ bass I ordered from Musician's Friend. They produce the classic Fender tone I wanted. I eventually replaced them with a set of Fender 7250L (.040, .060, .080, .100) to make it easier to play on the guitar's 9.5" fingerboard radius. I stayed with Fender because of the tone that the 7250M strings produce. The Light's have slightly less oomph on the low end, yet all the tone while the lighter gauge makes for nice melodic work on the high end of things. The first reviewer confounds me. The ball kept falling off the string? What?! I have used these strings on my Martin 12 strings for over 9 years now and NOT ONCE has that ever happened. These strings are great, they last long when taken care of and cleaned after use (Fast fret) and have a midrange tone. They don't last as long as the Elixers but they are also 1/3 the price. I like the Elixers also, but to give these strings a 1 star just was crazy to me. They are great strings from a great company.Keith

See above. I play a 12/6 1982 Ibanez Studio. The 6 gets the usual EB slinky regulars. I have tried EB slinky 12's, and didn't care for them. They were stiff and too jangly of a tone for my taste. These EB light nickels for the electric 12 are perfect. And they last. It is a lot of personal preference, but I think the most important thing with elec 12 string axes is to get a gauge spectrum that works for your needs. Unfortunately, it is trial and error. Superb. Haven't popped one yet, and I am quite rough on them. 9 bucks a pair is a steal.Timothy Benz

For probably the last 15 years i've used Ernie Ball exclusively. I usually use brands that cost more – I decided to try these out on my 12 string because I like to try out different strings and they were cheap. As I was putting them on, I immediately noticed that the strings needed to be stretched out a lot more than the brands I usually use. As I was tuning them up, the small G string snapped. Later one of the high E strings snapped. I was afraid to keep tightening the strings to get them up to pitch because they did not stretch out like normal ones. When I finally got ten strings tuned, they kept going flat. Eventually they stretched out & actually sounded nice (with ten strings on a 12 string guitar). I ended up taking them off the next day and throwing them out & putting a new pack of nicer strings on. I've been changing guitar strings for 32 years so I know how to do this – I've worked with many different brands & types of strings (80/20, phosphor bronze, silk & steel, coated, etc). I say that to emphasize that I'm not a novice at putting strings on a guitar. Maybe they'll work for you but I won't try them again.10nhm69

This is really interesting. I have always kept plenty of strings around and been waiting for the previous strings to be used before I use the StringJoy strings. Today I decided to restring my 50 year old Ventura Bruno, a D28 copy. I was just tuning the last string when this email popped up. My first thought was, wow if this company knows so much about it's customers that they know when they are putting strings on, they are going to be really great at crafting the strings I need to be playing. The second I touched these string I knew they were special, the quality materials and quality workmanship just jumped right out at me. The way they unwound right out of the packed screamed of quality in both workmanship and material. I do not think I have gotten any better at tuning new strings but these strings were the easiest I have ever tuned. Each string was off only about four steps. The sound is impressive and really don't know what to think. There is so much sound this six string guitar sounds like a 12 string. I am going to have to keep playing to see how this works out, but right now this sounds so very good.Wesley C
Used Martin marquis strings for decades. They quit making them and I decided it was time to try something else. Saw that Stringjoy's are made in Nashville and figured "Music City", must be good. Gave my guitars (acoustic) a thorough cleaning before installing the Naturals – phosphor bronze. Truthfully, I was not sure about their sound texture the first day. Wrote it off to being a new venture. Quickly began to appreciate the quality. The crispness and clarity still impress me, more-so since it's been a month now. Been telling my buddies about them. Great!!! I had recently bought a new guitar and the strings that came on it sounded flat. So, I put the strings that I’ve used on another guitar with similar scale length, different tone woods and then it went real bad, tinny. I was talking to another player and he was talking about how user friendly this new string company was, Stringboy, Stringtoy, what every. After, doing a search I found them and email them, not expecting a hole lot. I’m just another guy trying to get a better sound and I didn’t have the time money or patience to go though all the different strings to find something that I liked. Jumbo king acoustic phosphor bronze still the world`s favourite acoustic string that has been around for decades and will continue to do so. with a 92/8 bronze alloy made especially for us to our exacting specifications in the uk. this set continues to remain the favourite string for such eminent performers as john renbourn and sir bob geldof. please note: w denotes wound string johns thoughts on his strings of choice in my search for the clearest set of bronze strings, i tried some old rotosounds in black and red packets that i had somehow managed to hang on to for years. they sounded really good, bright and well balanced but with a rich tone. the company were amused to hear that anybody should still have strings going so far back but assured me that, several packet designs later, their new strings were still the same quality. rotosound bass strings have a high profile world-wide which may have overshadowed their guitar strings. james how, who founded the company in the fifties, engineered a new type of string-winding machine that was a step ahead of the industry and all the strings are produced to the same degree of precision. in addition to the phospher-bronze round wounds, rotosound also make guitar strings in the piano string design. that is with the wrap wire stopping short of the ball end so that a section of the core wire is exposed and only the core wire comes into contact with the saddle. these strings are called ‘country gold’. it is actually an old idea and i have a feeling that the very first steel strings used on the guitar in the 1800′s were like that. the gauges for both types of string are 060 to 018 covered, and 026 to 008 plain.

Great Value for price, superb tone and string tension with a wound A 5th which enhances bottom end tone, Oh, and a 10 gauge G 3rd plain octave as opposed to flimsy 8 gauge available on others. What's more…. it's a well known and respected UK brand and provides an excellent tone. Best I've used on my 12 string to date, so the search is over. PS, with regards to String tension these string seem to me to have the same tension (or slightly lower) as 10 -47 gauge USA alternatives previously used, with a richer tone and greater volume acoustically..134gloria44

Bought a new guitar and these were the original strings. Martin Guitars also recommended the strings and I wanted to capture the original sound when purchased. The end result is the guitar sounds exactly as it did in the shop. They sound great and are long lasting, maintaining a constant tonal quality. When I changed the strings there was no sign of degradation or pitting. To be fair, I only changed the strings because I thought they'd been on too long rather than any deterioration in sound. I also regularly used a Fender Speed Slick String Cleaner.Ian C.
The new LifeSpan 2.0 treatment does not protect the plain steel strings from tarnishing under acidic fretting fingers. Attached photos show tarnishing that occurred after three hours of use. I had the exact same thing occur after using sets of Martin's untreated strings. Martin's previous MSP7600 LifeSpan strings would not tarnish after playing them over a month. And Elixir's anti-rust plain strings would last me at least four months with no tarnishing.MusicfromFDR
