BLACK EYED PEAS’ WILL.I.AM LAUNCHES CLOTHING LINE

Will.i.am is known the world over as a musician, producer, songwriter, and MC through his work with the Grammy-winning, multi-platinum selling Black Eyed Peas, but this week at the apparel trade show, Magic—at The Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV (South Hall Booth #ST-31036)—Will.i.am will make his official debut as a fashion designer with his own i.am clothing line, hot off his Grammy win this weekend.

The apparel industry is already buzzing about the line, with Magic hostin a special launch event with i.am clothing at Rain at The Palms Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV, featuring a performance by the Black Eyed Peas with Macy Gray Today, February 15, 2005 beginning at 10 PM. Following the performance, i.am clothing will host a live special Buyer/Media Fashion Show Event at The Lounge at The Palms with a live Jam session runway show featuring the Black Eyed Peas and celebrity guests, beginning at 11:45 PM.

Known for his eclectic outfits, Will.i.am began designing his own signature line in 2001, drawing from his background in fashion—he attended LA’s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. “i.am clothing aims to fill the gap created in an industry where mass production consumes each person’s need for individuality,” Will.i.am says. Each piece of apparel produced by i.am clothing is signed and numbered personally by Will.i.am, making the collection original and a must-have.

A high-end men’s and women’s fashion line dubbed haute couture streetwear that consists of blazers, shirts, waistcoats, skirts, pants, and scarves, all incorporating the funk of Will.i.am’s music, i.am clothing has already found fans in celebrity clients including Ashlee Simpson, Kelly Osbourne, and the members of Coldplay through its exclusive availability in LA’s Fred Segal store. Following Magic, i.am clothing will be available worldwide.

Will.i.am has made a name for himself in the music world as a producer, songwriter, rapper, performer, and founder of the Grammy-winning multi-platinum hip-hop group The Black Eyed Peas, whose fourth album Monkey Business is due out on Interscope in Spring 2005. The group’s last album, Elephunk, released in 2003, continues to be a bestseller. Known for conscious, edgy lyrics joined with well-crafted musical arrangements, the Black Eyed Peas have racked up seven Grammy nominations over their seven years in the industry. will.i.am has emerged as a star producer and songwirter, working with artists including James Brown, Carlos Santana, John Legend, Mos Def, Macy Gray and more and even launching his own record label.
