CD REVIEW: JOHN DIGWEED, FABRIC 20

Mar 16, 2005 2:59 PM Ken Micallef (Writer)

Trance king searches for surprise
The 39th release in London’s Fabric club DJ series reveals John Digweed undergoing a personal evolution of sorts. A trance master with Sasha & Digweed, the DJ only bookends his Fabric set with trance morsels, exploding expectations elsewhere. The mood is still ethereal but block-rockin’. “The Glass” recalls David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” cut up in ReCycle; Martin Solveig issues a novelty disco attack; Slam re-creates ’80s New Order; and Infusion is as funky as Bootsy and the JB’s. Trance allusions fill the dream progressive of “Repair,” but, mostly, Digweed is moving on.
